August 16, 2019 8 AM Update

Good morning! Yeah, it’s Friday! Two weeks to Labor Day Weekend Begins πŸ‘¨β€πŸ. Cloudy, humid and 65 degrees at the Elm Ave Park & Ride – CDTA. ☁ There is a south-southeast breeze at 9 mph. πŸƒ. The dew point is 62 degrees. I’m kind of dripping from the sweat 😰 walking down to the express bus. The skies will clear Sunday around 7 pm.

I went to bed early last night and got up early today πŸŒ… thinking I would finish packing and then hit up the grocery store and then head to the Adirondacks after work. πŸ’ Looking at the forecast this morning I changed my mind as Saturday doesn’t look great up north so instead I think I will get up early tomorrow and head north.

That way I’ll only be gone three nights so I expect the ice will last and I won’t have to worry about moving my campsite after three nights. β›Ί I don’t expect a lot of people up north tomorrow being it expected to be cloudy and mid August when few people vacation. This way too I can head up on Saturday morning when traffic is light, not have to set up gear in the darkness or buy firewood. Money is a bit tight so everywhere I can save a few bucks it helps.

It will be four days at the potholers through Tuesday cooling off 😎. Should be nice to lay back on the hammock with a cold one and a book πŸ“™ and be off the grid for a few days. Have nice fires every night πŸ”₯, listen to music 🎢 as loud as I want, maybe set up targets and shoot guns. 🎯 Basically just get away from it for a few days.

Today will have a chance of showers and thunderstorms, mainly after 1pm. Partly sunny β›… , with a high of 82 degrees at 3pm. One degree above normal, which is similar to a typical day around August 9th. Maximum dew point of 69 at 3pm. South wind around 9 mph. Chance of precipitation is 30%. New rainfall amounts of less than a tenth of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms. A year ago, we had partly cloudy skies in the morning with some clearing in the afternoon. It was sticky. The high last year was 88 degrees. The record high of 97 was set in 1936.

The sun will set at 7:55 pm with dusk around 8:25 pm, which is one minute and 30 seconds earlier than yesterday. πŸŒ‡ At sunset, look for thunderstorms 🌩 and temperatures around 79 degrees. The dew point will be 68 degrees. There will be a south breeze at 9 mph. Today will have 13 hours and 51 minutes of daytime, an increase of 2 minutes and 35 seconds over yesterday.

Tonight will have a chance of showers and thunderstorms. Mostly cloudy 🌧, with a low of 68 degrees at 5am. Eight degrees above normal. Maximum dew point of 69 at 6pm. South wind around 9 mph. Chance of precipitation is 40%. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms. In 2018, we had mostly clear skies in the evening, which became light rain by the early hours of the morning. It was very sticky. It got down to 69 degrees. The record low of 40 occurred back in 1979.

Today in 1916, the Migratory Bird Treaty between Canada and the United States signed. 🐦 It was designed to save Migratory Birds by giving them international protection for the first time by placing limits on hunting and other means of taking. Gotta buy your duck stamp if your hunting migratory birds.

In 1989, a solar flare from the Sun creates a geomagnetic storm that affects micro chips,β˜€ leading to a halt of all trading on Toronto’s stock market. I notice with my display that I built in my bedroom, sometimes in humid weather I have a lot of errors, although in the winter I have less. Not sure if that’s humidity causing shorts and bad connections or if its the lack of shielding on the wires.

Also, in 1993, Debian Linux is announced, it would become the basis of many forms of Linux like Ubuntu Linux, πŸ’» which is currently what I run on my home computer.

And in 1966, the House Un-American Activities Committee begins investigations of Americans who have aided the Viet Cong. πŸ‘ΊThe committee intends to introduce legislation making these activities illegal. Anti-war demonstrators disrupt the meeting and 50 people are arrested.

Tomorrow will have a chance of showers, with thunderstorms also possible after noon. Mostly cloudy 🌦, with a high of 82 degrees at 3pm. One degree above normal, which is similar to a typical day around August 9th. Maximum dew point of 72 at 1pm. South wind 6 to 8 mph. Chance of precipitation is 40%. New rainfall amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms. A year ago, we had partly cloudy skies in the morning with some clearing in the afternoon. It was sticky. The high last year was 86 degrees. The record high of 97 was set in 1913.

Looking ahead to Sunday, a slight chance of showers, then a chance of showers and thunderstorms after 11am. Partly sunny, β˜€ with a high near 86. Calm wind becoming south around 5 mph in the afternoon. Chance of precipitation is 40%. New rainfall amounts of less than a tenth of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms. Maximum dew point of 70 at 8pm. Typical average high for the weekend is 81 degrees.

The plan is next weekend to stay in town. 🏑 But this weekend I’ll head north. I might take the Friday off before Memorial Day Weekend, although it depends if I can get coverage for my clients at work. I also want to take some time off in September and October plus the week before Columbus Day off. Labor Day Weekend I was originally planning on Piseco-Powley Road, but maybe I’ll do what I did last year with that campsite I really like on Jessup River Road or maybe I’ll head back to Vermont. Depends on the forecast.πŸ•

As previously noted, there are 2 weeks until Labor Day Weekend Begins πŸ‘¨β€πŸ when the sun will be setting at 7:32 pm with dusk at 8:01 pm. On that day in 2018, we had humid, partly sunny and temperatures between 82 and 62 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 78 degrees. We hit a record high of 98 back in 1953.

This gut doctor begs every American to throw out this vegetable now – Vox

There is a gut doctor, and he begs Americans: “Throw out this vegetable now.” This news is accompanied by a different image nearly every time. This morning, the plea appeared at the bottom of an article on Vox next to a photo of a hand chopping up what appears to be a pile of green apples. At other times, it has been paired with a picture of a petri dish with a worm in it. Other times, gut bacteria giving off electricity. The inside of a lotus root. An illustrated rendering of roundworms. The gut doctor’s desperation pops up over and over, on websites like CNN and the Atlantic (and as I said, this one), in what are known colloquially as “chumboxes.” These are the boxes at the bottom of the page that have several pieces of clickbaity “sponsored content” or “suggested reading.” They’re generated by a variety of companies, but the largest two are Taboola ($160 million in funding) and Outbrain ($194 million in funding), both founded in Israel in the mid-aughts.

If you don't want to read the article, apparently that evil gut vegatable is good ol' fashion sweet corn. 🌽 Apparently, it has a lot of sugar in it, and its hard for humans to digest the cellous on the outside of the kernel. But that misses the point of what article is about -- how click bait or chum is becoming  a bigger part of the Internet.

April 27, 2016 Night

Good evening. A chilly evening with temperatures around 36 degrees with a stiff northerly breeze. The low for tonight is 30 degrees but at least in Finger Lakes, that breeze will make it feel much cooler.

I got the propane tank refilled today in Auburn today and I’m damn happy about it. It a cool night. Wish I almost had warmer clothes with me but the heater is helping. I have a small campfire but it’s very small because with the breeze I’m concerned of a fire risk. I’m overly cautious with fire. Stupid mistakes mean more restrictions on our freedom. I will drown and cover the fire with mud to make sure it’s fully out by bed time. They got rain here yesterday and things are muddy but still not greened up. The campsite is free of leaves and grass around the fire pit but the pasture across the road is still mostly brown. Needless to say, the cows aren’t out yet. Always is entertaining when the herd comes over to visit on the summer.

Didn’t have any luck fishing today. I think it was two dang cold for the bullhead and other fish to be biting in Nelson Swamp. The spot I fished in Cazenovia, the new public fishing area in NY 96, looked like it had some good trout holes but the two or three times I’ve fished there, never had much luck.

Those hills just past Cazenovia on US 20 are pretty steep. I forgot how much a climb they are. Burned some serious gas climbing them with the kayak on the roof and the truck loaded down. But it’s vacation. Still a lot less energy then taking an airplane down south.

My smartphone was great for finding a place for refilling the propane tank. Just did a Google Search and it took me right to a U-Haul place to fill the tank. I was happy with the result and didn’t freeze tonight.

Checked out Montezuma. I was surprised how Montezuma is only like 15 minutes from Auburn. It was nice but the main federal refuge is kind of divided by the roar of the Thruway. I also checked out the Audubon Center and some of the state land know as the Northern Montezuma WMA. The northern parcels are a lot quiter although the state land is mostly leased farm land with some muck marshes in between. It’s kind of interesting that the best farm land is also the best land for wildlife. Indeed, the best corn regions in America are the best places for high deer populations and monster bucks. I’m not really a birder but it still was interesting to explore and visit some of rural Wayne County, including the hamlet of Savana and the muck country and farm land around there. My heart is with the rural poor, they have the best toys and the most fun.

Drove through Seneca Falls but did not stop. The country between Seneca Falls and Ovid is pretty flat dairy country, high on the hills between Seneca and Cayuga Lakes. Somewhat boring but still interesting.

After a while I started to disagree with Waze and started taking my own way to the National Forest, taking Lodi Center Road South. Eventually I remember where I was. Got to the National Forest, and set up camp. Gathered a small amount of wood and waited to dusk to start the fire.

Nice evening but cold. Dusk wasn’t until 8:35 pm in the Finger Lakes. Nice starry evening, that 3 watt LED bulb lights up the flag just perfectly with a nice warm color. My old flag bulb would have a colder color when the air temperature was colder. Also, while you can’t see it in the photos, the flag light always lights up the trees, which looks beautiful as the stars sit in between the tree branches, especially in the winter.

While I wish it was warmer out, still a pleasant evening next to the heater. It seems like the heater burns a lot of propane, but in my experience I burn through a 20 lb tank full every 6-7 nights camping. I’ve gone through two tank fulls since November, or about 20 nights camping. It costs about $18 to fill which means about $2.50 a night. I wouldn’t have done so much winter camping without the heater. I expect my fuel use will drop when I’m using propane for light and cooking food throughout the summer – and leaving the heater home.

Tomorrow starts out sunny with clouds creeping in later. Cool with a high around 52 degrees. Might be good for trout fishing tomorrow. I got to get some photos uploaded. Showers possible tomorrow evening, so I may hang up the tarp. Usually the tarp keeps the rain away.

I’m going to retire soon for the night. Sleep well. Dawn is at 5:33 am with sunrise is at 6:04. That’s only like seven hours away, so I probably won’t awake right away for dawn unlike today. But I do have the coffee pot ready for tomorrow, so once I get up, I’ll have coffee within 5 minutes thanks to how fast the stove brings the water to a boil in the percolator. Nice breakfast of eggs and sausage tomorrow. No rush to get going tomorrow.

I will get photos uploaded tomorrow, especially once I have a better Internet connection in Watkins Glen. Really, I should get to bed because the sun will be in my eyes before you know it.

To ride or not to ride to work today πŸš΄β€β™€οΈ πŸ”οΈ

I think I already know the answer to that question, as much as I might not love the idea of riding South Pearl Street with the rough pavement, as I am sure there is still too much snow on the rail trail. Got to watch out for the black ice but I assume the bike trail and alike will be plowed in the city, just not down through the gorge. At any rate, Corning Hill is kind of a blast on the bike.

Good morning! Monday’s come back around again. Sunny and 29 degrees in Delmar, NY. 🌞 Calm wind. There are 4 inches of snow on the ground. β˜ƒ ️ Alas that’s the only thing giving me pause, as I doubt I can do the rail trail. But by evening the rail trail might be passable, or certainly by tomorrow. Wednesday might rain, and Thursday I might drive in if I plan to head to the Adirondacks after work, assuming I get Good Friday off. ✝️

So it’s the week leading up to Easter Weekend. πŸ‡ I am still hoping to have Good Friday off. That said, Thursday looks a bit wet 🌦️ so maybe I won’t head north until early on Good Friday. I am determined to get bacon πŸ₯“ at For the Love of Bacon, as while it’s not something I’d eat regularly it’s such a wonderful treat. πŸ– And your supporting local agriculture while getting a product made out of simple ingredients. I’m not a bacon and eggs each morning kind of person — but a little bit of bacon and bacon grease as a treat spread over a few weeks or months is wonderful. Lard is kind of a wonderful thing. πŸ«ƒ  I should bring a snow shovel and salt though if heading up north, as there is a chance I’ll need it. But at least fire danger should be relatively low  πŸ”₯ for my mostly DEC compliant 3-foot campfire. I should bring a ruler πŸ“ to measure it, and not burn it, lol. 😸 I just don’t like when people burn pallets and leave nails out for people to run over with their 35-inch tires. πŸ›ž Plastic, I don’t care as long as I don’t have to smell it and it fully burns up or is packed out. πŸ‘ƒ

Today will be sunny 🌞, with a high of 46 degrees at 4pm. Three degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical day around March 19th. Light and variable wind becoming east around 5 mph in the afternoon. A year ago, we had light snow in the morning, which became light drizzle by afternoon. The high last year was 41 degrees. The record high of 74 was set in 1910. 1.9 inches of snow fell back in 1960.❄

Yesterday I hiked Bennett Hill 🚢‍♂️ after the ice storm.  πŸ”Œ The power was back on by the time I got back from my folks house, I’m glad about that as otherwise it would have been a very cold and dark night. Didn’t help that I had left the heat at 48 degrees the night before, so things really dropped after the heat quit working at 1 AM the previous night. I was a bit worried about pipes freezing, though that has yet to happen even in the coldest weather, though I do remember them being a bit frozen after the 2009 Ice Storm when I lost power for three days. 🌞 And despite all the sunshine, it still was dark in my bathroom without windows, though what I ended up doing was drawing the blinds and leaving the bathroom door. Still I was super cranky about losing power, again for the second time in like two weeks.

Then I went out to my parents house for Sunday dinner of riggies 🍝, which is far more white pasta then I normally eat but it’s nice to have them as a treat while my family is still around. πŸ‘ͺ️ I talk about how close I am to early retirement in 13 years, 10 months and 4 days, and for people who are older that seems like a lifetime — at least a remaining lifetime. But I do agree I really should be spending a least some of that time exploring America. If I want to move out (mid) west, I should explore it first.  πŸ›» If it means boarding a plane ✈️ and renting a car πŸ€‘ and spending some money, then so be it. Then later in the evening, I went for an evening walk.  🚲️ Never got test my adjustments to the bicycle gears  βš™οΈ over the weekend, but I’m sure it will be good enough and I can tweak tonight. Probably won’t be riding home but will catch the bus home due to snow/ice remaining on the bike trail.

Solar noon 🌞 is at 1:02 pm with sun having an altitude of 49.4° from the due south horizon (-21.4° vs. 6/21). A six foot person will cast a 5.1 foot shadow today compared to 2.2 feet on the first day of summer. The golden hour πŸ… starts at 6:37 pm with the sun in the west (267°). πŸ“Έ The sunset is in the west (274°) with the sun dropping below the horizon at 7:14 pm after setting for 2 minutes and 54 seconds with dusk around 7:42 pm, which is one minute and 9 seconds later than yesterday. πŸŒ‡ The best time to look at the stars is after 8:16 pm. At sunset, look for clear skies πŸŒ„ and temperatures around 41 degrees. There will be a east breeze at 6 mph. Today will have 12 hours and 28 minutes of daytime, an increase of 2 minutes and 55 seconds over yesterday.

This evening after I get home I’ll probably have a quick dinner of sweet potato  πŸ₯” and some fried veggies, πŸ§… and then go for evening walk before doing some reading πŸ“šοΈ using that Libby app on my phone. I like E-Books whenever they’re available as it avoids a trip to the library, plus I don’t have to worry about getting the books wet and dirty, and I can bring them under the covers in my bed, which is good with the heated blanket, as especially once we get past today. I plan to read e-books exclusively when I head out of town this weekend — I’ll have to make sure the ones I have are downloaded to my phone.πŸ“± Unfortunately my phone is starting to fall apart, so I may have to think about replacing it soon.

Tonight will be mostly clear πŸŒƒ, with a low of 26 degrees at 4am. Three degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical night around March 17th. East wind around 6 mph becoming light and variable after midnight. In 2023, we had light drizzle in the evening, which became mostly clear by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 31 degrees. The record low of 0 occurred back in 1885.

Spoke to my neighbor about the garbage pile  πŸ—‘οΈ last week and he still hasn’t done anything to address it. He said he was holding it to take to his parent’s dumpster but had forgotten about it. I just don’t like how animals have gotten into it and I’m finding litter now. I wouldn’t care if he had secure garbage cans.

A picture perfect weekend on tap. 😎 The only real question in my mind will I get off Good Friday. And can I leave early on Thursday? For Good Friday Eve, a chance of showers before 2am. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 34. Chance of precipitation is 40%. For Good Friday, partly sunny, with a high near 48. Saturday, mostly sunny, with a high near 49. Easter, partly sunny, with a high near 47. Typical average high for the weekend is 51 degrees. That sounds like a winner, though it only can slide downhill from here. Not as warm in Adirondacks, but I’ll take that weather for late March.

As previously noted, next Monday is April Fools Day 🀑 when the sun will be setting at 7:23 pm with dusk at 7:50 pm. On that day in 2023, we had rain and temperatures between 74 and 41 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 52 degrees. We hit a record high of 77 back in 1986.

Blackhead from Acra Point

Happy Friday, on this Most Beautiful Day 🌞

Definitely won’t get so soaked riding in this morning. It feels almost spring like. I feel refreshed, even if it was a tough night with smoke detector problems again with my windows closed. Things are tough these days, but they’ll get better. I just got to keep pushing forward, I’ve worked hard to get where I am and have a lot of potential ahead.

Good morning! Yeah, it’s Friday! Sunny and 31 degrees in Delmar. 🌞 Calm wind.

Riding to work on this beautiful morning. 🚲 Oiled my chain well after yesterday’s very wet ride to work. It was starting to bind up and click from the rust. Been a while since I last lubricated it. It was so wet riding in yesterday. The ride home wasn’t bad, and I even stopped and got eggs at the supermarket πŸ₯š and rode the rest the way home, the long way via the bike trail through Slingerlands with still some light left by the time I got home. And no eggs were broken in the process. πŸ˜€

I’ve been complaining a lot lately, especially about my living situation, but there is hope. I love my new position as the Director of Data Services πŸ‘¨‍πŸ’Ό as it involves skills I’ve been using for a long time, and there is a lot of creativity and thinking involved in developing the queries and scripts to get the data outputted and delivered to clients. Plus, yesterday I got the official position description, and it somehow strokes my ego πŸ’ͺ the way it’s written.

Today will be sunny 🌞, with a high of 53 degrees at 3pm. 11 degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical day around April 2nd. Light and variable wind. A year ago, we had cloudy skies. The high last year was 39 degrees. The record high of 68 was set in 2012. 6.5 inches of snow fell back in 2013.❄

Continuing to read and research buying land to build a house. πŸ” To get a mortgage or pay cash is one of the big questions on my mind, but I’m trying to get hard facts on the costs of doing it both ways. I am determined to do it right, even if it takes time. ⏲ Spend the money that is necessary, pay the right professionals a fair amount. Everybody has a different opinion! But that’s good, I will weight what is right for my situation. I would like to close on land before the winter, and move out to the land and camp there πŸ• until my place is built next year if at all possible.

Solar noon 🌞 is at 12:07 pm with sun having an altitude of 42.7° from the due south horizon (-28.1° vs. 6/21). A six foot person will cast a 6.5 foot shadow today compared to 2.2 feet on the first day of summer. The golden hour πŸ… starts at 5:17 pm with the sun in the west-southwest (258°). πŸ“Έ The sunset is in the west (265°) with the sun dropping below the horizon at 5:54 pm after setting for 2 minutes and 55 seconds with dusk around 6:22 pm, which is one minute and 12 seconds later than yesterday. πŸŒ‡ The best time to look at the stars is after 6:55 pm. At sunset, look for mostly clear skies πŸŒ„ and temperatures around 50 degrees. There will be a calm wind. Today will have 11 hours and 38 minutes of daytime, an increase of 2 minutes and 53 seconds over yesterday.

Closed my windows as it was cold last night and the damn smoke detector went off two or maybe three times from accumulated smoke, dust and humidity in my apartment. πŸ‘©‍πŸš’ This really is killing me, I only replaced the alarm a few months ago and I don’t want to go without a smoke detector in case of a real fire. Plus the air quality is so bad it’s hard to sleep with the windows closed, though I don’t have the visible mold problems my apartment once had since the landlord fixed all the leaks and I got serious with the bleach, but it’s still not good. Maybe I got to try to clean more though I’m not convinced that’s the problem.

I tell myself, I got to get out of this place. 🏑 That’s what I tell myself. Now is the time I can make that change but it’s going to take time ⌚ as moving is complicated especially if I want to live in my dream place out in the country off grid. At least soon it will be warm enough most days to have the windows open which will help with the moisture and air quality issues. πŸ”²  It would be nice if I could point to something that was wrong, but nothing obvious appears to be wrong. Maybe I got to try to clean better. I guess I should probably reach out to my new slumlord before the fire department shows up.

Tonight will have increasing clouds ☁, with a low of 33 degrees at 5am. Nine degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical night around April 5th. Calm wind becoming south 5 to 9 mph in the evening. In 2023, we had mostly clear skies in the evening, which became cloudy by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 28 degrees. The record low of -14 occurred back in 1943.

In 1965, Thirty-five hundred United States Marines are the first American land combat forces committed during the Vietnam War. πŸͺ– After promises in 1964 of no escalation in the conflict in Vietnam πŸ‡»πŸ‡³ one of the most decisive and arguably tragic wars underway.

Tomorrow will rain likely, mainly after 4pm. Mostly cloudy 🌧, with a high of 49 degrees at 1pm. Six degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical day around March 25th. Breezy, with a south wind 10 to 15 mph increasing to 17 to 22 mph in the afternoon. Winds could gust as high as 34 mph. Chance of precipitation is 60%. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch possible. A year ago, we had cloudy skies. The high last year was 43 degrees. The record high of 81 was set in 2016. 6.9 inches of snow fell back in 1961.❄

Looking ahead to Sunday, rain likely before 4pm, then a chance of rain and snow showers. Mostly cloudy, 🌧️ with a high near 47. South wind 5 to 10 mph becoming west 13 to 18 mph in the morning. Chance of precipitation is 60%. New precipitation amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch possible. Typical average high for the weekend is 43 degrees.

Friendly strangers in black sedans want you to know, next Friday is the Ides of March ✝ when the sun will be setting at 7:03 pm with dusk at 7:30 pm (Daylight Savings Time). On that day in 2023, we had mostly sunny and temperatures between 37 and 29 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 45 degrees. We hit a record high of 72 back in 2019.

 Back In Delmar

Doing something I haven’t done in a long time 🚘

Kind of sunny but cool. But a nice day for a drive out in the country, where I’m going to start to look at properties and then maybe do an evening hike down along the Switz Kill at Partridge Run. Both to scope things out and because I want to think what I’m getting myself into. I have options, maybe too many options, and that’s the problem. Do I really want to live in country, raise animals and garden? Do I want to give up my travels and adventures, as tired and worn out as they seem now? Or do I want to live the urban life, ride and walk most of my adventures? I really liked Downtown Troy.

I don’t know who I want to be when I grow up. I could see if I could keep renting my current apartment for another year, the higher rent is still pretty competitive. The more my research shows about my landlord, I’m not sure if he really has more aspirations then being a slumlord. Buying the building doesn’t necessarily mean he has the cash now to knock it down. Most of the other buildings he owns aren’t exactly “A” quality buildings, especially those sub-100k very old and worn out buildings in Coeymans where he got his start. Most of them look like my apartment.

Good afternoon! Partly cloudy 🌀 and 27 degrees at Delmar, NY. β›… There is a north-northwest breeze at 14 mph. πŸƒ. The current wind chill is 16. Things will start to thaw out at tomorrow around noontime. 🌑️

I woke up feeling pretty damn frustrated, frazzled and sad, after a tough week. 😫 Kind of like I went to bed last night. That database upgrade project at work, along with issues with telecommunications on Thursday and Friday, really drained me by the end of each day. Plus the recording of the podcast, and just looking at houses on Zillow and other sites, really zapped me. I am still so fried. Next Friday, is March 1st, hopefully the landlord will accept my paper check, and I’ll have my new office, as former Data Services director will be off on her retirement journey. While I’ve had the title and all the authorities of the position since January 1st, it’s like I had training wheels until next Friday, with somebody with 42 years of experience to fall back on when I didn’t know the answer.

This afternoon will be mostly sunny 🌞, with a high of 31 degrees at 3pm. Seven degrees below normal. But wait until next week. Northwest wind around 15 mph. A year ago, we had cloudy skies in the morning, which became light snow by afternoon. The high last year was 38 degrees. The record high of 74 was set in 2017. 8.0 inches of snow fell back in 1962.❄

First of the plan is to buy a bottle of wine 🍷 as a gift to my friend who is taking me around to look at land and property tomorrow, and give advice. I also got him another little gift that I think he will like. Just little things. It’s been years since we’ve been together in Boy Scouts, 🀠 πŸ• and I look forward to getting back together with him and his wife tomorrow. Then to get gas, β›½ and just drive around Berne until dark, with my mountain bike πŸš΅β€β™€οΈ in case I want to pull over and take a closer, slower look at property. πŸ” I’ll bring my laptop too, πŸ’» as I have the full NYS Property Tax database saved on it.

Solar noon 🌞 is at 12:10 pm with sun having an altitude of 37.8Β° from the due south horizon (-33.1Β° vs. 6/21). A six foot person will cast a 7.7 foot shadow today compared to 2.2 feet on the first day of summer. The golden hour πŸ… starts at 5:00 pm with the sun in the west-southwest (251Β°). πŸ“Έ The sunset is in the west-southwest (258Β°) with the sun dropping below the horizon at 5:38 pm after setting for 2 minutes and 58 seconds with dusk around 6:06 pm, which is one minute and 15 seconds later than yesterday. πŸŒ‡ At dusk you’ll see the Waning Gibbous πŸŒ– Moon in the east-northeast (78Β°) at an altitude of 2Β° from the horizon, 252,207 miles away. πŸš€ The best time to look at the stars is after 6:40 pm. At sunset, look for mostly clear skies πŸŒ„ and temperatures around 27 degrees. The wind chill around sunset will be 16. β˜ƒοΈ There will be a northwest breeze at 14 mph. Today will have 11 hours and one minute of daytime, an increase of 2 minutes and 47 seconds over yesterday.

There were a few houses on Zillow I really liked, 🏑 but first I want to talk to my friend tomorrow along with my parents to get their advice and think about it a bit more before I run out to make a decision that will impact my live well into the 2030s. While I know requesting a tour isn’t a commitment, and I should move forward on getting pre-approved, I’ve held back for now. I don’t want to drag my feet too much, but I also don’t want to rush too much. πŸ’Έ Going to be warmer soon, so that will help with the air leaks in my apartment, 🌬 and I also based on researching my new landlord, I don’t think I face that much of risk of immediate eviction, even if I know in the long run the current arrangement isn’t sustainable for me. I’ll assume he’ll replace door if it rots away and can no longer be shut. πŸšͺ This dumpy apartment, even with the rent going to the mustang-driving cigar-smoking slumlord, 🏎 is probably the most financially responsible choice as I can ride my bike to work or take public transit. 🚌

Tonight will be mostly clear πŸŒƒ, with a low of 10 degrees at 5am. 10 degrees below normal. Going to be a really cold night for future. Maximum wind chill around 4 at 2am; Northwest wind 7 to 13 mph. In 2023, we had cloudy skies in the evening, which became light snow by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 12 degrees. The record low of -14 occurred back in 1914. I’m surprised that record is so cold but alas it still is February. By the end of the week though I might be able to keep the heat off as it will be above freezing.

Looking ahead, next Saturday is Read Across America Day πŸ“š when the sun will be setting at 5:48 pm with dusk at 6:14 pm. On that day in 2023, we had cloudy, rain showers and temperatures between 41 and 35 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 40 degrees. We hit a record high of 65 back in 1991.
