January 16, 2021 Morning

Good morning! Happy Saturday. A rainy Martin Luther King Jr. Dayย  Weekend! It could be snow, but it’s not. Just a very cold, sloppy rain-mix. Six weeks to Snow Moon ๐ŸŒ• . Rain with a lot of slush and dirty-four degrees in Delmar, NY. โ„ The kind of day farmers and outdoorsman everywhere dream of if they want to be up their waists slip-sliding in mud and shit. ๐Ÿ’ฉ There is a northeast breeze at 8 mph. ๐Ÿƒ. There are 0.5 inches of sloppy ice and slush on the ground. โ˜ƒ ๏ธTemperatures will drop below freezing at tomorrow around 2 am. โ˜ƒ๏ธ So you can be slip-sliding away and the roads can be caked with a shit-ton of salt.

I survived my trip down to the office, ๐ŸšŒ and as far as I know I didn’t catch the CORONA or get assaulted by protestors downtown. โœŠ Honestly, it was very quiet yesterday. I think I only saw one other person in office, no protestors and even the buses were empty. ๐Ÿ™Œ I did wash my hands well after I got home. I do plan to stay socially distant from all the happenings in Albany this week, only interacting with it through my computer and phone for work purposes. I don’t want to touch any of that stuff with a 10 1/4 foot stick or whatever you call it.๐Ÿข I’ll be quiet happy sitting at home, working on the computer from Delmar and looking out the window. ๐Ÿ’ป Granted, remote work would be more fun from the Adirondacks but it’s cold up north and there isn’t a lot of places I can camp up there right now with cell service.

Today will snow before 10am, then rain and snow showers likely between 10am and 11am, then rain showers likely after 11am. ๐ŸŒฆ High of 38 degrees at 1pm. 10 degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical day around March 4th. Northeast wind 6 to 8 mph becoming west in the afternoon. Chance of precipitation is 80%. Total daytime snow accumulation of less than a half inch possible. A year ago, we had partly cloudy skies in the morning, which became light snow by afternoon. The high last year was 42 degrees. The record high of 62 was set in 1995. 15.1 inches of snow fell back in 1945.โ„

So yes, today will be a cold and wet day. โ˜” I mean it could be snow, although in many ways I would prefer that but at least the rain will wash the salt off the roads until tonight when it’s reapplied. I am going to continue exploring some LANDSTAT data and some other things and do some reading today.๐ŸŒ Then maybe do some cleaning downstairs and hopefully by evening it will nice enough for the evening walk.

Solar noon ๐ŸŒž is at 12:06 pm with sun having an altitude of 26.5ยฐ from the due south horizon (-44.3ยฐ vs. 6/21). A six foot person will cast a 12 foot shadow today compared to 2.2 feet on the first day of summer. The golden hour ๐Ÿ… starts at 4:05 pm with the sun in the southwest (234ยฐ). ๐Ÿ“ธ The sunset is in the west-southwest (242ยฐ) with the sun dropping below the horizon at 4:49 pm after setting for 3 minutes and 18 seconds with dusk around 5:19 pm, which is one minute and 11 seconds later than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ‡ At dusk you’ll see the Waxing Crescent ๐ŸŒ’ Moon in the southwest (215ยฐ) at an altitude of 29ยฐ from the horizon, 245,405 miles away. ๐Ÿš€ The best time to look at the stars is after 5:55 pm. At sunset, look for rain ๐ŸŒง and temperatures around 37 degrees. There will be a west breeze at 8 mph. Today will have 9 hours and 26 minutes of daytime, an increase of one minute and 41 seconds over yesterday.

Tonight will have a slight chance of rain and snow showers before midnight, then a slight chance of snow showers between midnight and 1am. Mostly cloudy ๐ŸŒง, with a low of 31 degrees at 3am. 17 degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical night around March 29th. West wind 11 to 15 mph, with gusts as high as 26 mph. Chance of precipitation is 20%. In 2020, we had cloudy skies in the evening, which became clear by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 10 degrees. The record low of -23 occurred back in 1971.

๐ŸŒน๐ŸŒป๐ŸŒผOnly 9 weeks remain until the first day of calendar spring!๐ŸŒน๐ŸŒป๐ŸŒผ I can remember last weekend when it was 10 weeks. Each week is one week closer to spring and the black flies, the mud and tangy smell of cow shit in small towns everywhere. And trout fishing. Add about two months two that date, and the black flies will be out in full force and it will be Memorial Day Weekend or something like that. The windows will be open and fresh air.

As previously noted, next Saturday is National Cheese Lovers Day ๐Ÿง€ when the sun will be setting at 4:57 pm with dusk at 5:27 pm. On that day in 2020, we had mostly cloudy and temperatures between 37 and 11 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 31 degrees. It’s supposed to be warming up at that point a little but I expect below normal temperatures’ in Biden’s America, at least to start out his term. We hit a record high of 64 back in 1906. Wishful thinking.

December 16, 2020 Morning

Good morning! Happy Tea Party Day ๐Ÿ! Honestly if you are going to dump a bunch of tea, ๐Ÿต I think it would be better to dump it and mix it with a bunch of manure ๐Ÿ’ฉ for composting then dumping it in the Boston Harbor โš“ where it can deplete the dissolved oxygen in the water ๐Ÿ’ฆ. But I agree ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿป we are over taxed and we tax the wrong things – namely income over carbon emissions and waste generation. ๐Ÿ’ธ Next Wednesday is Festivus ๐Ÿ–. I am still banned from my parents meatloaf which is loaded with Worcester sauce after telling them I preferred the stuff a college ๐ŸŽ“.

It’s the calm before the storm. Mostly cloudy and 13 degrees in Delmar, NY. โ˜ There is a north breeze at 5 mph. ๐Ÿƒ. Things will start to thaw out at Sunday around noontime. ๐ŸŒก๏ธ

It’s a cold morning โ„ and it looks like we are now going to get more snow ๐ŸŒจ than originally expected. But who knows. Kind of cold for my morning walk ๐Ÿšถ๐Ÿป and I keep putting my phone in my pocket and sticking my hands ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿป there to stay warm. โ™จ I guess working from home ๐Ÿก means the snow won’t effect me much but it never did because the buses ๐Ÿš run regardless of the weather. ๐ŸŽ„ It doesn’t look like much snow up north which is good if I want to get up there for Christmas weekend. Debating if I should put a tarp on my truck over the cap and windshield for easy snow removal. โ˜€๏ธ I like to keep the batteries ๐Ÿ”‹ trickle charged off the solar when it gets cold.

Today will be mostly cloudy ๐ŸŒฅ, with a high of 24 degrees at 2pm. 12 degrees below normal. Northeast wind around 6 mph. A year ago, we had mostly sunny skies in the morning, which became light drizzle by afternoon. The high last year was 34 degrees. The record high of 55 was set in 1971. 9.5 inches of snow fell back in 1981.โ„

I have kind of busy day today but I’ll work from home most likely. ๐Ÿ“ถ Those 3d maps are fun but I need broadband to make them. But it would be a cold day to work at the library parking lot so I think I’ll stay home. The other work stuff I can do from my phone moving the files ๐Ÿ“‚ to my laptop for editing.

Solar noon ๐ŸŒž is at 11:52 am with sun having an altitude of 24ยฐ from the due south horizon (-46.8ยฐ vs. 6/21). A six foot person will cast a 13.4 foot shadow today compared to 2.2 feet on the first day of summer. The golden hour ๐Ÿ… starts at 3:38 pm with the sun in the southwest (231ยฐ). ๐Ÿ“ธ The sunset is in the west-southwest (238ยฐ) with the sun dropping below the horizon at 4:24 pm after setting for 3 minutes and 25 seconds with dusk around 4:55 pm, which is 18 seconds later than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ‡ At dusk you’ll see the Waxing Crescent ๐ŸŒ’ Moon in the southwest (220ยฐ) at an altitude of 13ยฐ from the horizon, 235,459 miles away. ๐Ÿš€ The best time to look at the stars is after 5:32 pm. At sunset, look for cloudy skies โ˜ and temperatures around 24 degrees. There will be a northeast breeze at 6 mph. Today will have 9 hours and 3 minutes of daytime, a decrease of 23 seconds over yesterday.

Tonight will snow, mainly after 8pm. The snow could be heavy at times. ๐ŸŒจ Low of 21 degrees at 8pm. Typical for tonight. Northeast wind 9 to 13 mph. Chance of precipitation is 100%. New snow accumulation of 8 to 12 inches possible. In 2019, we had light rain in the evening, which became cloudy by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 26 degrees. The record low of -8 occurred back in 1942.

Yeap, it’s going to snow ๐ŸŒจ. I think I can probably do my evening walk ๐Ÿšถ๐Ÿป if I can get an early enough start there shouldn’t be too much snow on the ground and walking in the snow is always nice. Thursday morning maybe not so much but I could strap on skis I guess. ๐ŸŽฟ

Today in 1965, the Vietnam War would escalate. ๐Ÿ’ฃ General William Westmoreland sends U.S. Secretary of Defense Robert McNamara a request for 243,000 more men by the end of 1966.๐Ÿช– And in Cleveland, Ohio becomes the first major American city to default on its financial obligations since the Great Depression. ๐Ÿ’ธ Good ol Dennis Kuchich and the big creditors of the Cleveland Power and Light company. A big set back for the public power industry ๐Ÿญ. You don’t hear much from Dennis Kuchich anymore but I guess he’s pretty elderly ๐Ÿ‘ด๐Ÿผ now. But aren’t we all getting old?

It looks like we will have decent snow for the weekend. โ„ Saturday, partly sunny, with a high near 29. Sunday, mostly cloudy, with a high near 35. Typical average high for the weekend is 35 degrees.

I am thinking that Saturday would be a nice day for cross country skiing ๐ŸŽฟ at Schodack Island State Park. I could then stock up on groceries ๐Ÿž๐Ÿฒ at Aldi’s. They have an interesting of variety of things for cheap although less bulk than Wally World.

As previously noted, next Wednesday is Festivus ๐Ÿ– when the sun will be setting at 4:26 pm with dusk at 4:58 pm. On that day in 2019, we had mostly sunny and temperatures between 50 and 18 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 33 degrees. We hit a record high of 64 back in 1990.

August 16, 2020 Morning

Good morning! Happy Sunday. Final day of vacation, plan to make the most of it. ๐Ÿ–๏ธ Summer not expected to last. Five weeks to Average High 70 ๐ŸŽ‘ . Partly cloudy and 73 degrees at the Watkins Glen State Park. โ›… There is a south-southeast breeze at 6 mph. ๐Ÿƒ. The dew point is 62 degrees.

The morning started out chilly ๐ŸŒค๏ธ but the clouds parted. I made up coffee โ˜• and finished up the muffins. ๐Ÿช I am surprisingly less hung over then expected, I had a few Genesee’s with dinner last night and they’re the kind of beer ๐Ÿป you drink when you are having more than one. ๐Ÿคฎ

Sat back, paused briefly then made a final video ๐Ÿ“น of my campsite. ๐Ÿ•๏ธ I find it hard to believe that I’ve been camping here for 8 nights and nine 9โƒฃ days, it seems like I just set things up yesterday. โŒ›I think camping here in one site all week made the time go by faster.

All packed up, site is clean ๐Ÿก and after visiting a few more places in the Finger Lakes it will be back home. ๐Ÿ›ฃ๏ธMy goal is to be home by dusk ๐ŸŒ†. I am not terribly worried about getting unpacked ๐Ÿ’ผ tonight although I’ll need to grab the cooler and empty that out โ„, grab my clothes ๐Ÿ‘•๐Ÿ‘–and unpack things like razors and toothbrush.

I am going to go for a swim ๐ŸŠ๐Ÿปโ€โ™‚๏ธ once the pool opens. I wanted to be here early in case the lot filled up with social distancing. Seneca Lake looked so calm this morning, I was tempted to go for a paddle but with things heating up โ˜€ the wind ๐Ÿƒ is picking up. This afternoon I want to explore Catharine Creek Marsh ๐Ÿฆ†some more wildlife observation ๐Ÿ”ญ this time with binoculars. I could go for a paddle later. ๐Ÿ›ถ I don’t know though time is limited but I made sure to leave the sleeping pad so I could get the kayak off my truck if choose. Then starting to head home, I want to visit Danby State Forest ๐ŸŒฒand check the overlook out there.

Today will be partly sunny ๐ŸŒž, with a high of 81 degrees at 3pm. Typical for today. Maximum dew point of 62 at 10am. Southeast wind 6 to 8 mph. A year ago, we had partly cloudy skies in the morning, which became thunderstorm by afternoon. It became sticky as the day progressed. The high last year was 81 degrees. The record high of 97 was set in 1936.

Solar noon ๐ŸŒž is at 1:13 pm with sun having an altitude of 61.2ยฐ from the due south horizon (-9.7ยฐ vs. 6/21). A six foot person will cast a 3.3 foot shadow today compared to 2.2 feet on the first day of summer. The golden hour ๐Ÿ… starts at 7:30 pm with the sun in the west-northwest (283ยฐ). ๐Ÿ“ธ The sunset is in the west-northwest (289ยฐ) with the sun dropping below the horizon at 8:08 pm after setting for 3 minutes and 3 seconds with dusk around 8:36 pm, which is one minute and 28 seconds earlier than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ‡ The best time to look at the stars is after 9:15 pm. At sunset, look for partly cloudy skies ๐ŸŒƒ and temperatures around 74 degrees. The dew point will be 61 degrees. There will be a south-southeast breeze at 6 mph. Today will have 13 hours and 50 minutes of daytime, a decrease of 2 minutes and 32 seconds over yesterday.

I thought it was a pretty good week, โ˜บ with about the best weather one could hope for during these times. Everything was a bit off and the wood full of people during these times of social distancing. ๐Ÿ‘จโ€๐Ÿ‘จโ€๐Ÿ‘งโ€๐Ÿ‘ฆIt’s really good that people are getting outside and enjoying nature but I do miss the solitude especially around Foster Pond – the nights ๐ŸŒŒstar gazing with no one else around. While my campsite was far back from the road and quite remote, every time I hiked in the woods it didn’t seem quite as quiet ๐Ÿคซ as years past. While I’d be pressed to say that I couldn’t find solitude but things just weren’t like years past.

The Finger Lakes are a very different place than the Adirondacks. ๐Ÿฎ๐ŸŒฑ๐ŸŒพ๐ŸŒฟ๐Ÿ•ธ๏ธ๐Ÿฆ‹๐Ÿท I think it’s a fun summer place, a lot lighter and more relaxing than the Adirondacks. ๐Ÿ—ป Everything in the Adirondacks is much more touristy, while the Finger Lakes are more rural and the gas stations โ›ฝ and groceries ๐Ÿ›’ aren’t so overpriced as they are up north. ๐Ÿ‘ƒ๐Ÿป The smell of the silage and grass, the gentle mooing of the cows is a nice change.

There are definitely a lot of places on my ๐Ÿ…ฑ๏ธ list I’ve gotten to see this week and enjoy that would have otherwise been overlooked. I think it’s good to think outside of the box ๐Ÿ—ƒ and look for new places to visit in the same general area I’ve been before but previously overlooked. ๐Ÿฆ

One of my annoyances that seems to be a problem all over this year is the amount of litter ๐Ÿšฎ dumped in the woods. Seems like this week there is a growing pile of trash ๐Ÿ—‘ dumped at Foster Pond, the same is true for the campsite on Backbone Trail. Now I’m not calling for more jack booted thugs ๐Ÿ‘ข to unsuccessfully patrol the woods and stop dumping but folks should be more responsible. ๐Ÿ‘ฎ You can’t stop ๐Ÿ›‘ people who want to dump trash when no one is looking.

Bring your gawd damn deposit cans back for the nickle. ๐Ÿ’ต Bring your aluminum foil, cans and glass home for the recycling bin โ™ป, it’s not that much trash if you smash it. Chances are your having a fire ๐Ÿ”ฅ so you can burn the rest of the largely burnable packaging ๐Ÿ“ฆ, just make sure to pack out anything that doesn’t fully become smoke or water vapor. And bury your poop ๐Ÿ’ฉ and toilet paper ๐Ÿšฝ deep in the woods. โšฐ๏ธ Personal responsibility not jack booted thugs. โ˜ ๏ธ

If people want to drink ๐Ÿป and have a little fun in the woods ๐Ÿคฃ then good for them. Public lands are for the publics use but they shouldn’t trash them. ๐ŸŒฒ๐ŸŒณ๐Ÿง”๐Ÿง”๐Ÿผ๐Ÿ‘ฑ๐Ÿพโ€โ™€๏ธ๐Ÿ‘ฑ๐Ÿผโ€โ™€๏ธI had my fun but my campsite was cleaner than when I got there – I cleaned up abandoned fire pits, removed bottle caps and made sure things were generally more organized than when I got here.
โ€ผ๏ธ

I am hoping by next summer ๐Ÿ– things will be a bit quieter and back to normal. ๐Ÿ‘พ Been such an odd summer and while I’ve made the most of it I could see doing some things differently next year. ๐Ÿ’ญ I’d like to spend some time in Pennsylvania, maybe later this autumn. ๐Ÿ‚๐Ÿ Yeah, while New York rednecks are fun, Pennsylvania rednecks are more fun as they have more guns ๐Ÿ”ซ and everybody out in the country burns their trash and everything else that burns from brush piles to old mobile homes. ๐Ÿ”ฅ

Continuing to read that book about hog farming. ๐Ÿท There is a lot I didn’t know about pigs, ๐Ÿฝ they are kind of fascinating creatures. I figured start my summer reading program with cattle, then pigs and maybe then goats ๐Ÿ and chickens ๐Ÿ”. Pigs are a lot more accessible to a beginning homesteader than cattle ๐Ÿฎ plus they can do a lot to help restore rocky โ›ฐ๏ธ worn out soils as can often be found in areas with affordable acreage. ๐Ÿ’ฉ I’m sure that’s why North Country Off Grid makes pigs such a big part of his homestead in North Idaho. Plus bacon ๐Ÿฅ“.

I am thinking about getting a clip on telephoto lens ๐Ÿ”ญfor my smartphone ๐Ÿ“ฑ. I am quite happy with the quality of the photos ๐Ÿ“ธ my phone takes but I would like to be able to zoom ๐Ÿ”Ž in closer to wildlife. ๐Ÿฆ…๐Ÿฆ‰๐Ÿธ๐ŸฆThey aren’t really expensive either. ๐Ÿ–ผ

Tonight will have a chance of showers, mainly after midnight. Mostly cloudy ๐ŸŒง, with a low of 62 degrees at 5am. Two degrees above normal. Maximum dew point of 61 at 7pm. South wind around 6 mph. Chance of precipitation is 30%. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch possible. In 2019, we had mostly clear skies in the evening, which became cloudy by the early hours of the morning. It became very sticky as the night progressed. It got down to 67 degrees. The record low of 40 occurred back in 1979.

Today in 1916, the Migratory Bird Treaty between Canada and the United States signed. ๐Ÿฆ It was designed to save Migratory Birds by giving them international protection for the first time by placing limits on hunting and other means of taking. Good day for walking in the marsh. ๐Ÿธ

Looking ahead, there are 5 weeks until Average High 70 ๐ŸŽ‘ when the sun will be setting at 7:07 pm with dusk at 7:35 pm. On that day in 2019, we had partly sunny, patches of fog and temperatures between 79 and 42 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 71 degrees. We hit a record high of 90 back in 1946.

February 16, 2020 Morning

Good morning! Happy Sunday. โ›ช Best thing about this Sunday is Monday is President’s Day in New York, although the federal government considers Monday Washington’s Birthday to the holiday as Congress wasn’t going to give Ronnie Reagan a holiday to celebrate 🎉. Two weeks to March 🌨. Now that’s a holiday to celebrate once the snow melts away in Trump’s America. Mostly cloudy and 32 degrees in Delmar, NY. โ˜ There is a south-southeast breeze at 9 mph. 🍃. There is a inch of snow on the ground. โ˜ƒ ๏ธCloudy and the skies will clear tomorrow around 9 am.

Today will be mostly cloudy 🌥, with a high of 42 degrees at 2pm. Seven degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical day around March 10th. South wind 5 to 9 mph becoming calm in the afternoon. A year ago, we had cloudy skies in the morning with more sun in the afternoon. The high last year was 34 degrees. The record high of 61 was set in 2006. 17.3 inches of snow fell back in 1958.โ„

I might walk out to Five Rivers this morning 🚶, I am undecided on that as it’s kind of dreary. I do want to go down to the Bethlehem Library later on to upload some of pictures I took yesterday on my night hike. 📷 It would be nice to finish up the book I’m reading 📖 on electrical wiring too today. Tomorrow I am planning on getting a fairly early start and going out to Rensselaerville State Forest to ski 🎿 as I think there will be sufficient snow there.

Solar noon 🌞 is at 12:10 pm with sun having an altitude of 34.9ยฐ from the due south horizon (-35.9ยฐ vs. 6/21). The golden hour 🏅 starts at 4:49 pm with the sun in the west-southwest (247ยฐ). 📸 The sunset is in the west-southwest (254ยฐ) starting at 5:25 pm and lasts for 3 minutes and 2 seconds with dusk around 5:56 pm, which is one minute and 18 seconds later than yesterday. 🌇 The best time to look at the stars is after 6:30 pm. At sunset, look for partly cloudy skies 🌃 and temperatures around 40 degrees. There will be a calm wind. Today will have 10 hours and 36 minutes of daytime, an increase of 2 minutes and 42 seconds over yesterday.

Tonight will be mostly cloudy 🌥, with a low of 26 degrees at 6am. Eight degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical night around March 16th. Calm wind becoming northwest 5 to 7 mph after midnight. In 2019, we had mostly clear skies in the evening, which became mostly clear by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 17 degrees. The record low of -16 occurred back in 1973.

🌹🌻🌼Only 32 days remain until the first day of calendar spring!🌹🌻🌼

While I’m sure we are due for at least one more snow storm โ„, I think spring is coming with relatively mild temperatures predicted both in the short term and long term. Maybe we’ll get a cold spell in March but March cold spells don’t last long and are never as bad as January weather due to the sun being significantly higher in the sky. โ˜€

As previously noted, there are 2 weeks until March 🌨 when the sun will be setting at 5:45 pm with dusk at 6:13 pm. On that day in 2019, we had partly cloudy and temperatures between 39 and 14 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 39 degrees. We hit a record high of 66 back in 2017.

Frozen Swamp Above the Gulf

December 16, 2019 Night

Good evening! Mostly cloudy and 26 degrees in Delmar, NY. โ˜ Calm wind. There are 0.5 inches of snow on the ground. โ˜ƒ More coming tomorrow. Heading into a deep freeze the next few days. ๏ธThings will start to thaw out at Sunday around 11 am. 🌡๏ธ

Tonight will snow likely, mainly after 4am. Cloudy 🌨, with a low of 26 degrees at 9pm. Five degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical night around December 4th. Calm wind. Chance of precipitation is 60%. Total nighttime snow accumulation of 1 to 2 inches possible. Might be a bit tricky with the commute, I’ll have to leave earlier tomorrow. 🚍 In 2018, we had light rain in the evening, which became cloudy by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 30 degrees. The record low of -8 occurred back in 1942.

It should be a pretty morning when the sun โ˜€ comes up with lots of snow around. โ„ Might also be good for the Save the Pine Bush Ski trip 🎿 on Saturday. I’ve yet to decide about going up north on Saturday night, depends on how sunny it will be and how deep the snow is. I wouldn’t mind a nice night in the wilderness but it looks like it’s going to be pretty cold. โ›บ

Tonight will have a Waning Gibbous Moon 🌖 with 61% illuminated. The moon will set at 11:38 am. The Last Quarter Moon will be tomorrow with a chance of snow showers. The is on Wednesday night. The sun will rise at 7:18 am with the first light at 6:46 am, which is 42 seconds later than yesterday. 🌄 Tonight will have 14 hours and 56 minutes of darkness, an increase of 24 seconds over last night.

It sucks thst I had to stay a little bit late last night at work to make up my late arrival, but so far that’s the first time I’ve been late to my new job.โŒš Its definitely a different experience being an hourly employee rather than a salary worker but at least most days I get to go home at five. It ultimately dudnt matter much because I gad a Save the Pine Bush meeting to go to.

Tomorrow will snow. 🌨 High of 30 degrees at 12pm. Five degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical North wind 3 to 6 mph. Chance of precipitation is 90%. New snow accumulation of 3 to 5 inches possible. A year ago, we had mostly sunny skies in the morning, which became light drizzle by afternoon. The high last year was 41 degrees. The record high of 59 was set in 1984. 11.1 inches of snow fell back in 1970.โ„

I won some really nice things at the Pine Bush raffle last night. 🌲I don’t know how I managed to win so many things, granted the few things I really liked I tossed a bunch of tickets 🎫 and apparently I was drawn a few times. I should also donate a bunch to Save the Pine Bush – I did kick in a bit at the event but I was originally planning on spending more. Well I’ll have more money to spend at the dinner 💵 and maybe I should mail โœ‰ in a check or do the Go Fund Me page. I still don’t know how I managed to win so much stuff. Honest, I didn’t bribe the judge I wasn’t there when things were called. I was in bed by then. 🎄Well at least I’ll have some nice Christmas gifts 📦.

I got the voltage sensitive I ordered from China today. 🔌 I am going to test it and built the wire harness necessary to operate it starting tomorrow night after work and maybe have it hooked up by the weekend. My hope is by the weekend to have it up and running so I never have to worry about having a weak start if I’m parked out in the sun โ˜€.

I have to admit lately i find I really miss spending time out in the wilderness and in the country. โ›บ🐸🐷🐺🐮 I do hope that I get out to the Finger Lakes in a few weeks. I think its alk thr YouTube I estch lstely of those Idaho qnd Alaska off grid farm types – and all the other farm families that I watch that gets me craving the wilder side of life.😻The smell of the wood smoke and the dirt and manure. The sound of the axe and the diesel tractor. 🚜 Its so far away from Albany and the buses🚍and the suit and tie.👔

At any rate, Thursday is going to be a cold one after the snow โ„ falls. I think I’ll probably have to turn back up the heat. โ™จIt is what it is and honestly with the heat turned up its more comfortable in my bedroom.

In four weeks on January 13 the sun will be setting at 4:44 pm,🌄 which is 21 minutes and 25 seconds later then tonight. In 2019 on that day, we had partly sunny skies and temperatures between 23 and 10 degrees. Typically, you have temperatures between 30 and 14 degrees. The record high of 71 degrees was set back in 1932.

Looking ahead, Make Your Dream Come True Day 🏡 is in 4 weeks, Clean Your Computer Day 🧹 is in 8 weeks, Presidents Day 👴 is in 9 weeks, Read Across America Day 📚 is in 11 weeks, Worm Moon 🌕 is in 12 weeks, Arbor Day 🌳 is in 19 weeks, 8 PM Sunset 🌇 is in 20 weeks, Average High is 70 🐮 is in 5 months, Flower Moon 🌕 is in 22 weeks and Memorial Day 🇺🇸 is in 23 weeks.

Northwood Club Road near Huntley Pond

December 16, 2019 Morning

Good morning! Happy Tea Party Day ๐Ÿ! I should wear my Don’t Tread on Me shirt ๐Ÿ‘š, that is after work. I’ve always kind of admired them a bit for giving the Finger ๐Ÿ‘†to the British. Yeah, many of the original tea partiers were puritanical religious bigots โœ against the Quakers who would be eventually run off to the Quaker State, besides being angry about the excessive taxes and regulations on the American frontier. ๐Ÿบ Next Monday is Festivus ๐Ÿ–. The holiday for the rest of us, including those who prefer coffee โ˜• to tea on the morning. I like it good and strong ๐Ÿ’ช in my perculator pot. ๐Ÿ’ญ That said I recommend separating out your coffee grounds and tea bags and composting the source separated organic waste ๐Ÿฝ, the S-SOW as the guberment likes to say. Plus if you burn it ๐Ÿ”ฅ coffee grounds don’t burn well — better to fertilize the fields and the garden.

This morning mostly cloudy and 26 degrees in Delmar, NY. โ˜ There is a west-northwest breeze at 5 mph. ๐Ÿƒ. There are 0.5 inches of snow on the ground. โ˜ƒ But we are getting a few more inches on Tuesday of nuisance snow โ›„. ๏ธThings will start to thaw out at around noontime. ๐ŸŒก๏ธ

It looks like I am going to be into work late today. ๐ŸšŒ It just was a few too minutes late to make the walk down to the express bus, and I missed the earlier local. The normal local I would take is running about 15 minutes late, so I’ll have to clock in late, โฒ and then maybe stay a few minutes later in the evening — but I think I should still be able to catch the express bus as it normally isn’t to State and Swan until 5:14 PM.

The one neat thing is I guess I won some of the paintings at the Save the Pine Bush Raffle ๐Ÿฆ‹, so I’ll have some Christmas presents to give away. ๐Ÿ–ผ I didn’t think much of it — I just bought a bunch of raffle tickets to support Save the Pine Bush. Honestly, I ended up spending less money then I expected at the Save the Pine Bush benefit, but maybe I’ll give a bigger check at the dinner on Wednesday night. Or send them in a check. Tonight I have another Save the Pine Bush meeting to go to.๐Ÿ‘ช

Today will be partly sunny ๐ŸŒž, with a high of 33 degrees at 1pm. Three degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical day around December 23rd. Northwest wind around 5 mph becoming light and variable in the afternoon. A year ago, we had mostly sunny skies in the morning, which became light drizzle by afternoon. The high last year was 36 degrees. The record high of 55 was set in 1971. 9.5 inches of snow fell back in 1981.โ„

The sun will set at 4:22 pm with dusk around 4:54 pm, which is 16 seconds later than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ‡ At sunset, look for partly cloudy skies ๐ŸŒƒ and temperatures around 31 degrees. There will be a calm wind. Today will have 9 hours and 4 minutes of daytime, a decrease of 26 seconds over yesterday.

Tonight will snow likely, mainly after 4am. Mostly cloudy ๐ŸŒจ, with a low of 23 degrees at 3am. Two degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical night around December 12th. Maximum wind chill around 23 at 6pm; Light and variable wind. Chance of precipitation is 60%. New snow accumulation of less than one inch possible. In 2018, we had light rain in the evening, which became cloudy by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 30 degrees. The record low of -8 occurred back in 1942.

So yeah, the Boston Tea Party ๐Ÿต happened today in Boston 1773 and would lead to the Intolerable Acts and ultimately the American Revolution. ๐Ÿ They dumped a bunch of over taxed nasty Indian Tea into the Boston Harbor โš“ and said to the world ๐ŸŒ we are going to grow our own. ๐ŸŒฝ๐ŸŽ๐Ÿ„๐Ÿท๐Ÿฎ I have a lot of respect for their individualistic spirit. And it’s not like pig shit ๐Ÿ’ฉ is going to ruin our environment.

Honestly, I do agree strongly with the tea partierers that jack-booted thugs ๐Ÿ are the greatest threat to our liberty, and we spend too much money on the war department and the police — and we worship them like they’re God and not government bureaucrats enforcing often unjust and bigoted laws. ๐Ÿ‘ฎ If we had fewer laws, we’d all be better off. When I own my own land, I want the government to stay off it, let me burn whatever I want, shoot my guns, farm and slaughter my own animals. ๐Ÿ”๐Ÿ–๐Ÿ๐Ÿ”ซ You do your thing, I’ll do mine.

Today in 1965, the Vietnam War would escalate. General William Westmoreland sends U.S. Secretary of Defense Robert McNamara a request for 243,000 more men by the end of 1966. ๐Ÿ’ฃAnd in Cleveland, Ohio becomes the first major American city to default on its financial obligations since the Great Depression in 1977 ๐Ÿ’ฐwith Mayor Kunich at the helm. He was quite the flash in the pan when he ran for president a few times as a peace โœŒ candidate by the you haven’t heard much from him lately. I think I might have even voted for him one or two times. โŽ A time for peace, I swear it’s not too late.

Cloudy oh so cloudy weekend ahead before Christmas. โ˜ Saturday, mostly cloudy, with a high near 31. Sunday, mostly cloudy, with a high near 37. Typical average high for the weekend is 34 degrees. My hopes off getting up to the Adirondacks after the Pine Bush Hike seem increasingly dashed. ๐Ÿ—ป But the forecast could change by then and if it doesn’t happen I am still going to the Finger Lakes National Forest in two weeks. โ›บ

Looking ahead, there are 4 weeks until Make Your Dream Come True Day ๐Ÿก when the sun will be setting at 4:44 pm with dusk at 5:15 pm. On that day in 2019, we had partly sunny and temperatures between 23 and 10 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 30 degrees. We hit a record high of 71 back in 1932.

Overlooking the Hill

October 16, 2019 Morning

Good morning! What day is it? ๐Ÿช Fords don’t have it of course, Three weeks to the Day After Election Day. ๐Ÿ›€ November is coming, even in Trump’s America. Maybe they’ll impeach him in November so it will make for great conversation around the Thanksgiving tables across America. Mostly cloudy and 44 degrees in Delmar, NY. โ˜ There is a south-southeast breeze at 10 mph. ๐Ÿƒ.

I stayed over at my parents house last night โ›บ and sat out back for about an hour with a cup of coffee โ˜• next to the heater. It was a nice morning but now the clouds have pushed in. โ˜ Nice morning but it meant I got a little bit of a late start heading home and had to rush to the bus.๐ŸšŒ

I listened ๐Ÿ‘‚ to the democratic debate for a while last night on NPR. It’s nice that they finally broadcast the debate on the radio ๐Ÿ“ป for those of use who don’t own a television. I guess I could also download it from YouTube and watch it but I don’t think I dare about their faces – I don’t own a television so I don’t care if they are pretty or ugly. Their look won’t cause indigestion of they get elected.

Today will rain, mainly after 2pm. โ˜ Clouds now but it will be quite wet this evening. โ˜” High of 63 degrees at 3pm. Three degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical day around October 9th. Maximum dew point of 50 at 5pm. ๐Ÿ–๏ธ South wind 10 to 18 mph, with gusts as high as 31 mph. Chance of precipitation is 80%. New precipitation amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch possible. A year ago, we had cloudy skies in the morning with more sun in the afternoon. The high last year was 56 degrees. The record high of 88 was set in 1947. There was a dusting of snow in 2009.โ„

The sun will set at 6:12 pm with dusk around 6:40 pm, which is one minute and 37 seconds earlier than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ‡ At sunset, look for rain ๐ŸŒง and temperatures around 58 degrees. The dew point will be 50 degrees. Breezy, 17 mph breeze โ›… from the east-southeast with gusts up to 29mph. Today will have 11 hours and 2 minutes of daytime, an increase of 2 minutes and 47 seconds over yesterday.

Tonight will rain. The rain could be heavy at times. ๐ŸŒง The first Nor ‘Easter is coming. Low of 46 degrees at 6am. Seven degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical night around September 29th. Southeast wind 10 to 18 mph becoming north after midnight. Winds could gust as high as 31 mph. Chance of precipitation is 100%. New precipitation amounts between 1 and 2 inches possible. In 2018, we had cloudy skies in the evening, which became mostly clear by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 39 degrees. The record low of 21 occurred back in 1940.

Wet today and probably tomorrow but not bad for the weekend. A picture perfect autumn weekend on tap. ๐Ÿ˜Ž Get out and enjoy it gone and snow is here. Saturday, sunny, with a high near 60. Sunday, mostly sunny, with a high near 66. Maximum dew point of 48 at 3pm. Typical average high for the weekend is 59 degrees. I kind of wish I didn’t have my Pine Bush hike because I would be a nice weekend to get out of town. ๐ŸŒฒ

As previously noted, there are 3 weeks until Day After Election Day ๐Ÿ›€ when the sun will be setting at 4:42 pm with dusk at 5:12 pm (Standard Time). I’m sure farmers will be slinging manure on that day as they do a lot of that in November. ๐Ÿ’ฉ ๐Ÿฎ On that day in 2018, we had drizzle showers, cloudy and temperatures between 54 and 44 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 52 degrees. We hit a record high of 73 back in 2015.
