November 9, 2020 Morning

Good morning! Monday’s come back around again in Biden’s America. ๐Ÿ’ต I heard the future markets are on a tear this morning. All that stimulus money has to somewhere if it’s not going to cause inflation. Three weeks to Cyber Monday ๐Ÿ›๏ธ. Foggy and 44 degrees in Delmar, NY. ๐ŸŒซ Calm wind.

Back home and mostly unpacked. ๐Ÿก I thought about staying another day in Madison County ๐Ÿฎbut work days are inevitably long and dark when I’m not working. The flat solar panel doesn’t put out that much energy with the low sun angle.

Today will be sunny ๐ŸŒž, with a high of 71 degrees at 2pm. 20 degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical day around September 20th. Maximum dew point of 50 at 3pm. Light and variable wind. A year ago, we had cloudy skies in the morning with more sun in the afternoon. The high last year was 39 degrees. The record high of 71 was set in 1975. 10 inches of snow fell back in 1900.โ„

Solar noon ๐ŸŒž is at 11:40 am with sun having an altitude of 30.4ยฐ from the due south horizon (-40.5ยฐ vs. 6/21). A six foot person will cast a 10.2 foot shadow today compared to 2.2 feet on the first day of summer. The golden hour ๐Ÿ… starts at 3:58 pm with the sun in the west-southwest (240ยฐ). ๐Ÿ“ธ The sunset is in the west-southwest (247ยฐ) with the sun dropping below the horizon at 4:40 pm after setting for 3 minutes and 8 seconds with dusk around 5:08 pm, which is one minute and 5 seconds earlier than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ‡ The best time to look at the stars is after 5:43 pm. At sunset, look for clear skies ๐ŸŒ„ and temperatures around 68 degrees. The dew point will be 50 degrees. There will be a calm wind. Today will have 9 hours and 58 minutes of daytime, a decrease of 2 minutes and 21 seconds over yesterday.

Tonight will be mostly clear ๐ŸŒƒ, with a low of 41 degrees at 6am. Eight degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical night around October 12th. Light south wind. In 2019, we had clear skies in the evening, which became mostly clear by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 33 degrees. The record low of 16 occurred back in 1965.

A more normal weekend on tap. Saturday, mostly sunny, with a high near 49. ๐ŸŒ… Sunday, scattered rain and snow showers. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 48. Chance of precipitation is 50%. Typical average high for the weekend is 49 degrees.

I am thinking this will be a stay home ๐Ÿก weekend maybe go out to Five Rivers ๐Ÿฆ ๐Ÿธ for some wildlife observation but with the time change, I can’t go particularly late or it will be dangerous walking home.

As previously noted, there are 3 weeks until Cyber Monday ๐Ÿ›๏ธ and Beaver Moon ๐ŸŒ• when the sun will be setting at 4:23 pm with dusk at 4:54 pm. On that day in 2019, we had mostly sunny and temperatures between 33 and 19 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 42 degrees. We hit a record high of 67 back in 1933.

November 7, 2020 Night

Good evening! Partly clear and 52 degrees at the Stoney Pond State Forest. There is a west-southwest breeze at 6 mph. ๐Ÿƒ. The dew point is 43 degrees.

Walked down to Stoney Pond but there is enough clouds โ˜๏ธ that the Syracuse light pollution makes the stars โœจ much more difficult than previous nights. Came back to camp and sat by the fire ๐Ÿ”ฅ for a while. Definitely some nice scenery hiking along the Canastota-Cazenovia Trail and poking around Fenner. The wind farm and all the various livestock farms up that way are quite interesting to see. ๐Ÿฎ It’s amazing what people can make from the earth ๐ŸŒŽ tillage and grass. ๐Ÿšœ God bless the grass.

Joe Biden is the president elect and I listened to his speech ๐ŸŽค๐Ÿ‘ด๐Ÿป. Honestly with socially distant drive in rally due to COVID-19 it sounded like it was held at the median of the Belt Parkway. ๐Ÿš˜ I get it but it’s weird to hear car horns at a political speech. I voted for Jo Jergenson but I think Biden will be a much better president than Trump. Biden has so much more experience, he listens to experts, and he’s a calming influence during the pandemic. ๐Ÿ‘พBut even if I felt differently, I don’t have much say in the presidency beyond a bubble I marked on the voting Scantron machine. ๐Ÿ–‹๏ธ I don’t do many political rally anymore – protests are fun but I’m not interested in defending any particular cause. ๐Ÿคœ

Maybe Trump to a certain extent was a good thing. ๐Ÿคฌ He tore down the old rules about obscenity, brought down the presidency in some ways to the people by replacing the class and decorum of the office with that of a cheap suit worn by Billy Fuscillo. ๐Ÿ•ด๏ธ He made politicians a lot more free on their social media and many ways elevated politics over bureaucary and decorum which had gotten awful stuffy ๐Ÿง for the modern era. I think it’s fine for the world to know the president poops ๐Ÿ’ฉ and tweets from his gold plated toilet ๐Ÿšฝ. His three justices he appointed in the Supreme Court will provide an effective check on the new administration. โš– No one party should be too powerful. ๐Ÿ›ข That farm I passed with the very well used and blacked with melted plastic all over them burn barrels had a big ol Trump flag out front. But as a farmer I’m sure he’s done more than most to conserve our earth ๐ŸŒŽ and probably doesn’t send much trash to the landfill. ๐Ÿ”ฅ

Tonight will be mostly clear ๐ŸŒƒ, with a low of 47 degrees at 6am. 13 degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical night around September 27th. Southwest wind around 6 mph. In 2019, we had mostly clear skies in the evening, which became partly cloudy by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 23 degrees. The record low of 18 occurred back in 1971.

I don’t know it feels colder than that already, โ„ but truth be told it was so warm and sunny today that everything seems a lot colder then it is. But sitting the next to the campfire ๐Ÿ”ฅwith my vest and cowboy hat ๐Ÿค  it’s quite warm. I realize that there is so much I can’t change about the world today but I can continue to enjoy my own life free and work to save for a better tomorrow. ๐Ÿ’ต The politicians are going to do what they do but I can’t turn off the radio ๐Ÿ“ป and avoid the social media. ๐Ÿ“ฑ I don’t think I’ll ever own of those colored televisions ๐Ÿ“บ,

Tonight will have a Last Quarter ๐ŸŒ— Moon with 54% illuminated. The moon will rise at 10:33 pm. The Beaver ๐Ÿป Moon is on Monday, November 23. The darkest hour is at 11:47 pm, followed by dawn at 6:16 am, and sun starting to rise at 6:46 am in the east-southeast (112ยฐ) and last for 3 minutes and 9 seconds. Sunrise is one minute and 16 seconds later than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ„ The golden hour ends at 7:27 am with sun in the east-southeast (119ยฐ). Tonight will have 13 hours and 59 minutes of darkness, an increase of 2 minutes and 26 seconds over last night.

Tomorrow will be sunny ๐ŸŒž, with a high of 68 degrees at 2pm. 17 degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical day around September 27th. Maximum dew point of 46 at 5pm. Light west wind. A year ago, we had cloudy skies in the morning with more sun in the afternoon. The high last year was 37 degrees. The record high of 75 was set in 1975. 1.7 inches of snow fell back in 1894.โ„

Tomorrow I have to take down camp โ›บ, officially by eleven o’clock when my three night tenancy expires. I will miss the wild Hill and Hollow country of Madison County ๐Ÿฎ but it’s not going away any time soon. I mean this was the exact same campsite I was at a decade ago. But with the mild weather โ˜€ I haven’t been able to enjoy the solitude that was the case a decade ago – people are enjoying the nice weather. Can’t blame them. Me too!

Central NY ๐Ÿ—ฝ is different than the Adirondacks or the Green Mountains but I like the agricultural landscape for a change. ๐Ÿฎ There are a lot of neat trails and scenic vistas out along this way. I honestly haven’t spent a lot of time out in Cazenovia area in years and the Trailway is quite nice. ๐Ÿšถ๐Ÿป That said, Chittenango Falls was way too crowded but particularly the high country part of the Trailway was super quiet. ๐Ÿคซ I just wish more people would wear masks on the trail ๐Ÿ˜ท. Apparently social distancing isn’t as popular here. ๐Ÿ—ฃ๏ธ

Iysa beautiful landscape out here, and some day I want to live back out in the country ๐Ÿก๐Ÿฎ๐Ÿท but not one of those big fancy houses. More ramshackle like those often rundown farms I pass on by. There is something so beautiful about how nature grows back and works to take over everything – the abandoned homes and equipment, and just the mud and muck that can be found on every farm.

In four weeks on December 5 the sun will be setting in the west-southwest (239ยฐ) at 4:28 pm,๐ŸŒ„ which is 18 minutes and 45 seconds earlier then tonight. In 2019 on that day, we had mostly cloudy, snow showers and temperatures between 38 and 28 degrees. Typically, you have temperatures between 40 and 25 degrees. The record high of 65 degrees was set back in 2001.

I may do a December trip โ›บ but I don’t really know, as I expect soon for remote work ๐Ÿ’ป to be ending and I don’t have a lot of vacation time left at this point before the end of the year. I feel like the abnormally warm weather is soon to switch to be cold โ„ and snow ๐ŸŒจ. And once the roads are icy and snow covered, camping season is likely done for me unless I hot tent ๐ŸŽช locally as I’ve done some years during the holidays.

Looking ahead, Regular Deer Season in Southern Zone ๐ŸฆŒ is in 2 weeks, Small Business Saturday ๐Ÿ›๏ธ is in 3 weeks, Repeal of Prohibition Day ๐Ÿบ is in 4 weeks, Boxing Day ๐ŸฅŠ is in 7 weeks, Static Electric Shock Day ๐Ÿงผ is in 9 weeks, National Cheese Lovers Day ๐Ÿง€ is in 11 weeks, Save the Pine Bush Turns 43 ๐Ÿฆ‹ is in 13 weeks, 5:30 PM Sunset ๐ŸŒ† is in 15 weeks and Snow Moon ๐ŸŒ• is in 16 weeks.

November 6, 2020 Night

Good evening! Mostly clear and 52 degrees at the Stoney Pond State Forest. ๐ŸŒŒ Calm wind. The dew point is 46 degrees.

It’s a nice mild evening under the stars โœจ laying back under the very starry skies. I dimmed the lights so I could see the stars better and because I’m a little low on power after charging my work laptop while I was working at the Cazenovia laptop. ๐Ÿ”‹ Lot of sun but the solar panel angle flat on the truck isn’t very good this time of the year.

The moon is rising now, ๐ŸŒ– and being such a clear evening should be a very nice moonlit evening. While I don’t plan on rushing out tomorrow, truth be told that with the time change ๐Ÿ•’ darkness will return early. It’s maybe not as warm as a summer night by still pretty nice. A lot of people up here tonight, which is unusual for November but it’s so mild out.

Not as quiet up here as last night ๐Ÿคซ, as there are a lot of people camping up here for November โ›บ but I guess that’s to be expected with the unusually mild weather this year. In contrast, in 2018 was a terribly cold November. โ„ I’m just happy that I can get away and I’m not paying for a shit ton of heat at home. I brought my camp heater with me but I doubt I’ll need it any time this weekend. It’s still in the bag.

Had more hot coca โ˜• and dipped Halloween Candy ๐Ÿฌ in it, watching as the wrappers melted and burnt in the fire ๐Ÿ”ฅ. So much easier when you can use your paper plates and just burn the trash rather than washing out the bottles and cans for pretend recycling โ™ป. I can’t wait until eventually live out in the country and just burn the burnables.

Tonight will be mostly clear ๐ŸŒƒ, with a low of 43 degrees at 6am. Nine degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical night around October 7th. West wind around 5 mph becoming calm after midnight. In 2019, we had clear skies in the evening, which became cloudy by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 32 degrees. The record low of 18 occurred back in 1962.

All and all it was a pretty good day, โ˜บ and while I had some online meetings and work to do it was in general a pretty quiet day so I took a long lunch break and hiked around Cazenovia and then down around Nelson Swamp before returning back to camp before night quickly fell again. Mornings are still quite dark although the moonlight was pretty bright before dawn. ๐ŸŒŒ Had a bit of the runs come morning but I squatted off my tailgate and sprayed it on the ground and just sholved up the poopy leaves into the fire pit come morning.

Tonight will have a Last Quarter ๐ŸŒ— Moon with 64% illuminated. The moon will rise at 9:24 pm. The Beaver ๐Ÿป Moon is on Sunday, November 22. The darkest hour is at 11:47 pm, followed by dawn at 6:15 am, and sun starting to rise at 6:45 am in the east-southeast (112ยฐ) and last for 3 minutes and 8 seconds. Sunrise is one minute and 16 seconds later than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ„ The golden hour ends at 7:26 am with sun in the east-southeast (119ยฐ). Tonight will have 13 hours and 56 minutes of darkness, an increase of 2 minutes and 27 seconds over last night.

Tomorrow will be sunny ๐ŸŒž, with a high of 69 degrees at 2pm. 18 degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical day around September 24th. Maximum dew point of 49 at 11am. Calm wind becoming west around 6 mph. A year ago, we had light rain in the morning with more sun in the afternoon. The high last year was 46 degrees. The record high of 75 was set in 1938. 4.5 inches of snow fell back in 1886.โ„

Tomorrow I plan to hike around Chittenango State Park ๐Ÿž and maybe some of the Link trail ๐Ÿšถ๐Ÿป and the Fenner Wind Farm or some other other parks.

In four weeks on December 4 the sun will be setting in the west-southwest (240ยฐ) at 4:28 pm,๐ŸŒ„ which is 19 minutes and 43 seconds earlier then tonight. In 2019 on that day, we had partly cloudy, snow showers and temperatures between 36 and 19 degrees. Typically, you have temperatures between 40 and 26 degrees. The record high of 63 degrees was set back in 1998.

Come December I might do another trip โ›บ but it depends on the weather. I don’t have a lot of vacation time left but it would be nice to do some winter camping before the end of the year. ๐ŸŒฒ

Looking ahead, Average Night Below Freezing ๐ŸŒŒ is in 1 week, Buy Nothing Day ๐Ÿ›๏ธ is in 3 weeks, First Sunday of Advent โœ๏ธ is a month away, Average High is 40 ๐ŸŒจ is in 4 weeks, Saint Nicholas Day ๐ŸŽ… is a month away, Bake Cookies Day ๐Ÿช is in 6 weeks, Christmas ๐ŸŽ… is in 7 weeks, New Years Day 2021 ๐ŸŽ‰ is in 8 weeks, Bubble Bath Day ๐Ÿงผ is in 9 weeks, 38th Birthday ๐ŸŽ‰ is in 12 weeks and Save the Pine Bush Turns 43 ๐Ÿฆ‹ is in 3 months.

Nature Trail View

November 5, 2020 Night

Good evening! Partly cloudy and 51 degrees at the Stoney Pond. ๐ŸŒŒ There is a south-southwest breeze at 9 mph. ๐Ÿƒ. The dew point is 42 degrees.

A nice evening quite mild ๐Ÿ for November out here in Madison County. ๐Ÿฎ Quite mild but the leaves are all gone and the nights are quite long at this point. It was a nice drive out here but kind of a long trip because I had to stop ๐Ÿ›‘ for remote work ๐Ÿ’ป calls ๐Ÿ“ž and meetings. Plus I also got food ๐Ÿฒ at the Hannaford in Esperance – I was a bit creeped out by the clerk touching my shopping bags ๐Ÿ› and my ID. I’m just so used to people so aggressively social distancing in the Albany area and not wanting to touch others property. I mean the check out lady ๐Ÿ‘ฉโ€๐Ÿ”ฌ was very friendly in the small town kind of way.

I did enjoy the drive out here along US 20 and the rural countryside. ๐Ÿšœ Still farmers bringing in the high moisture corn ๐ŸŒฝ but the land is very gray with lots of browns. Not much has changed along the road in recent weeks, the homes are still old and ramshackle ๐Ÿš๏ธ, people doing the best they can to make a living off the land. The fields are being fertilized, the air has that pungent but essential smell ๐Ÿ‘ƒ๐Ÿป of dairy country ๐Ÿ„ in the autumn months. I hope to eventually live in such deep rural areas but where there aren’t so many restrictions on guns ๐Ÿ”ซ and having a burning barrel ๐Ÿ›ข and bonfires ๐Ÿ”ฅ. I just want to own land out in the country where everybody leaves you alone. I love rundown houses with piles of manure, broke down tractors, goats ๐Ÿ tied out front and of course a burn barrel out back.

I was actually surprised how few big TRUMP signs I saw along the way. ๐ŸšฉWhile I did see some Trump flags and signs, I’ve certainly seen more over the top displays on the back roads of the Adirondacks or Pennsylvania. At one level, I do get the appeal of the president – some of those urban laws and policies do come down hard on farm families and country boys who are trying to scrape a living from the dirt. ๐Ÿšœ

Tonight will be mostly cloudy, then becoming mostly clear toward daybreak ๐ŸŒฅ, with a low of 45 degrees at 5am. Still can see some stars โœจ but I wouldn’t call it a really clear night. But definitely mild. 11 degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical night around October 2nd. Southwest wind 7 to 9 mph. In 2019, we had light rain. It got down to 30 degrees. The record low of 15 occurred back in 1951.

I had a nice big fire tonight ๐Ÿ”ฅ as I was fortunate somebody else had left a pile of wood at their campsite. Thats good because after reassembling the camp lantern ๐Ÿฎ it didn’t work. Had a couple of beers ๐Ÿป and a big pot of macaroni and cheese ๐Ÿง€ with diced tomatoes ๐Ÿ… and topped with bread crumbs. A fitting meal ๐Ÿด for a long winter night. โ˜• Also had some coca and chocolate ๐Ÿซ candy I bought on sale after Halloween ๐Ÿฆ‡.

I sat and listened to the radio ๐Ÿ“ป coverage of the presidential election. No real big news ๐Ÿ“ฐ right now but I seems like Joe Biden is pulling ahead. I’m not a big fan of Joe Biden – I voted for the libertarian Jo Jergenson ๐Ÿ—ฝ but I do ultimately think ๐Ÿค” Biden would be far more professional than Trump but I hope congress keeps him on a short leash. ๐Ÿถ I think every president should be impeached from time to time to keep them accountable and honest. โš–

Tonight will have a Waining Gibbous ๐ŸŒ– Moon with 74% illuminated. The Beaver ๐Ÿป Moon is on Saturday, November 21. The darkest hour is at 11:47 pm, followed by dawn at 6:14 am, and sun starting to rise at 6:44 am in the east-southeast (111ยฐ) and last for 3 minutes and 7 seconds. Sunrise is one minute and 16 seconds later than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ„ The golden hour ends at 7:25 am with sun in the east-southeast (118ยฐ). Tonight will have 13 hours and 54 minutes of darkness, an increase of 2 minutes and 29 seconds over last night.

Tomorrow will be sunny ๐ŸŒž, with a high of 64 degrees at 1pm. 12 degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical day around October 6th. Maximum dew point of 47 at 1pm. West wind 5 to 8 mph. A year ago, we had mostly sunny skies in the morning, which became partly cloudy by afternoon. The high last year was 49 degrees. The record high of 73 was set in 2015. 3.2 inches of snow fell back in 1933.โ„

Going to be an absolutely beautiful day tomorrow. โ˜บ All weekend should be nice. I’m going to work from Cazenovia library ๐Ÿ“š and then spend some time down by the lake. ๐Ÿž Saturday and Sunday will be much more relaxed and I’ll head home before dark on Sunday which happens early this time of year.

In four weeks on December 3 the sun will be setting in the west-southwest (240ยฐ) at 4:29 pm,๐ŸŒ„ which is 20 minutes and 42 seconds earlier then tonight. In 2019 on that day, we had partly cloudy, snow showers and temperatures between 32 and 22 degrees. Typically, you have temperatures between 41 and 26 degrees. The record high of 63 degrees was set back in 2009.

Looking ahead, Thanksgiving ๐Ÿฆƒ is in 3 weeks, Repeal of Prohibition Day ๐Ÿบ is a month away, 7:15 AM Sunrise โŒ›๏ธ is in 5 weeks, Christmas Eve ๐ŸŽ… is in 7 weeks, New Years Eve ๐ŸŽ† is in 8 weeks, National Bird Day ๐Ÿง is in 2 months, Coldest Week of the Year ๐ŸŒฌ is in 10 weeks, Wolf Moon ๐ŸŒ• is in 12 weeks, Don’t Cry over Spilled Milk Day ๐Ÿฅ› is in 14 weeks and National Drink Wine Day ๐Ÿท is in 15 weeks.

November 2, 2020 Morning

Good morning! A frigid Monday’s come back around again in Trump’s America. โ„ Four weeks to Cyber Monday ๐Ÿ›๏ธ and Beaver Moon ๐ŸŒ•. Snow showers and 32 degrees in Delmar, NY. ๐ŸŒจ Breezy, ๏ธ17 mph breeze from the west-northwest ๐ŸŒฌ with gusts up to 30 mph ๐Ÿ’จ๐Ÿ’จ๐Ÿ’จ. The current wind chill is 21. Things will start to thaw out at around 9 am. ๐ŸŒก๏ธ

I decided it might be a wee bit too cold โ„ for my morning walk, ๐Ÿšถ๐Ÿป so I’m thinking I might pass on that. I may go downtown to the office today ๐Ÿข I’m a bit undecided on that but I’m definitely more productive when I’m not home with lots of distractions. Definitely a chilly start for November but that extra hour of sleep helps and that sleeping pill ๐Ÿ’Š meant I slept soundly.

Today will have a slight chance of snow showers before 11am. Partly sunny ๐ŸŒž, with a high of 38 degrees at 1pm. 15 degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical day around December 8th. Windy, with a northwest wind 17 to 22 mph increasing to 23 to 28 mph in the afternoon. Winds could gust as high as 49 mph. Chance of precipitation is 20%. A year ago, we had cloudy skies in the morning with more sun in the afternoon. The high last year was 50 degrees. The record high of 82 was set in 1950. 0.1 inches of snow fell back in 1911.โ„

Solar noon ๐ŸŒž is at 11:40 am with sun having an altitude of 32.5ยฐ from the due south horizon (-38.4ยฐ vs. 6/21). A six foot person will cast a 9.4 foot shadow today compared to 2.2 feet on the first day of summer. The golden hour ๐Ÿ… starts at 4:07 pm with the sun in the west-southwest (243ยฐ). ๐Ÿ“ธ The sunset is in the west-southwest (250ยฐ) with the sun dropping below the horizon at 4:48 pm after setting for 3 minutes and 5 seconds with dusk around 5:15 pm, which is one minute and 16 seconds earlier than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ‡ The best time to look at the stars is after 5:51 pm. At sunset, look for partly clear skies ๐ŸŒ„ and temperatures around 36 degrees. The wind chill around sunset will be 24. โ˜ƒ๏ธ Breezy, 24 mph breeze โ›… from the west-northwest with gusts up to 44mph. Today will have 10 hours and 15 minutes of daytime, a decrease of 2 minutes and 32 seconds over yesterday.

Tonight will snow showers likely before 3am, then a chance of rain and snow showers. Mostly cloudy ๐ŸŒง, with a low of 31 degrees at 6am. Four degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical night around November 17th. West wind 13 to 16 mph, with gusts as high as 28 mph. Chance of precipitation is 60%. New snow accumulation of less than a half inch possible. In 2019, we had mostly clear skies in the evening, which became light rain by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 30 degrees. The record low of 20 occurred back in 1980.

Awesome weekend on tap, with temperatures running 14 degrees above normal. ๐Ÿ˜Ž Saturday, sunny, with a high near 65. Maximum dew point of 50 at 11am. Sunday, mostly sunny, with a high near 65. Maximum dew point of 52 at 12pm. Typical average high for the weekend is 51 degrees.

Going to be a pretty nice weekend โ˜€ but possibly quite muddy after all the snow ๐ŸŒจ. I am hoping to get out of town this weekend but things could change between now and Friday.

Looking ahead, there are 4 weeks until Cyber Monday ๐Ÿ›๏ธ when the sun will be setting at 4:23 pm with dusk at 4:54 pm. On that day in 2019, we had mostly sunny and temperatures between 33 and 19 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 42 degrees. We hit a record high of 67 back in 1933.

 Paint Mine Falls

November 1, 2020 Morning

Good morning! Happy November ๐Ÿฅง! This is my favorite month of the year. Mostly because of the pumpkin pie. ๐ŸŽƒ Plus I love the ways the woods looks on a clear November Day and long nights around the campfire. ๐Ÿ”ฅBig warm up next week. ๐Ÿ˜ŠFive weeks to First Sunday of Advent โœ๏ธ.

We’ve had a few breaks of sun, but I’d say it’s mostly cloudy and 37 degrees in Delmar, NY. โ˜ There is a south-southeast breeze at 13 mph. ๐Ÿƒ. Temperatures will drop below freezing at tomorrow around 5 am. โ˜ƒ๏ธNot uncommon for November.

It was a nice hike to Five Rivers ๐Ÿฆ yesterday but it sure gets dark early now and even darker come today with the time change. Nice bright Halloween Blue Moon ๐ŸŒ• last night – I looked at it through the window but it was kind of cold so I stayed inside. Still having a lot of trouble sleeping so I retired to bed early last night ๐Ÿ› and took full advantage of the extra hour of sleep ๐Ÿ˜ด during the extra hour we got last night.

The autumn sleeping problem ๐Ÿ’ค is particularly accute this year but I’ve been trying to get to bed ๐Ÿ› extra early and sleep up later to deal with the many hours I spend awake in the wee hours of the day listening to random podcasts. ๐Ÿšœ Learning a lot about random agriculture topics and hunting ๐ŸฆŒ when I end up at two AM not being able to sleep. I am going to buy some sleeping pills ๐Ÿ’Š today. At least with the extra hours in bed I’ve been sleeping I haven’t been super tired in the day time like in years past.

Today will have showers, mainly after 2pm. ๐ŸŒฆ High of 50 degrees at 2pm. Four degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical day around November 10th. More mercury than yesterday but colder with a breeze and showers. South wind 13 to 17 mph, with gusts as high as 30 mph. Chance of precipitation is 80%. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch possible. A year ago, we had light rain in the morning with more sun in the afternoon. The high last year was 70 degrees. The record high of 78 was set in 1950. 3.9 inches of snow fell back in 1951.โ„

With the rain it’s certain to get dark early tonight. ๐ŸŒƒ The time change too. I have some work stuff to do this afternoon ๐Ÿ’ป before I squeeze in a walk assuming it’s not raining out this evening.

Solar noon ๐ŸŒž is at 11:40 am with sun having an altitude of 32.8ยฐ from the due south horizon (-38.1ยฐ vs. 6/21). A six foot person will cast a 9.3 foot shadow today compared to 2.2 feet on the first day of summer. This time of year the sun is quite weak and the shadows quite long. The golden hour ๐Ÿ… starts at 4:09 pm with the sun in the west-southwest (244ยฐ). ๐Ÿ“ธ The sunset is in the west-southwest (251ยฐ) with the sun dropping below the horizon at 4:49 pm after setting for 3 minutes and 5 seconds with dusk around 5:17 pm, which is one hour, one minute and 18 seconds earlier than yesterday due to the time change. ๐ŸŒ‡ The best time to look at the stars is after 5:52 pm. At sunset, look for gusty rain showers ๐ŸŒง and temperatures around 50 degrees. Breezy, 16 mph breeze โ›… from the south with gusts up to 28mph. Today will have 10 hours and 17 minutes of daytime, a decrease of 2 minutes and 33 seconds over yesterday.

Tonight will rain and snow showers before 4am, then a slight chance of snow showers after 5am. ๐ŸŒง Low of 32 degrees at 6am. Three degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical night around November 13th. Northwest wind 5 to 9 mph becoming calm after midnight. Chance of precipitation is 80%. Back In New York

October 31, 2020 Morning

Good morning! Happy Halloween ๐Ÿฆ‡ ๐ŸŽƒ ๐Ÿ‘ป! Last day of October and Daylight Savings Time ๐Ÿ•’, finally more sunshine โ˜€ in the morning. Three weeks to Regular Deer Season in Southern Zone ๐ŸฆŒ. Already started up north. Sunny and 22 degrees in Delmar, NY. ๐ŸŒž Calm wind. Bitterly cold for October but warmer next week. Not so bad in my bedroom ๐Ÿ› though as the heat is on. There is a inch of snow on the ground. โ˜ƒ ๏ธThings will start to thaw out at around 10 am. ๐ŸŒก๏ธBuy still only 43 for a high in the city. Sixty next weekend though.

I had another rough night sleeping. ๐Ÿ’ค I keep waking up during the night and listening to podcasts well into the morning hours. I sleep so much better when the windows are open in my bedroom. ๐Ÿ› Except when that obnoxious touhee is by the window singing ๐ŸŽถ his song at Five AM. ๐Ÿฆ

Today will have patchy fog before 9am. Otherwise, sunny ๐ŸŒž, with a high of 43 degrees at 3pm. 11 degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical day around November 27th. Calm wind becoming southeast around 5 mph in the afternoon. A year ago, we had cloudy skies in the morning, which became light rain by afternoon. It became sticky as the day progressed. The high last year was 75 degrees. The record high of 75 was set in 2019. 0.1 inches of snow fell back in 1913.โ„

I have some work stuff to do this morning ๐Ÿ’ป๐Ÿ‘ป๐ŸŽƒ๐Ÿฆ‡ and then I’ll go for a walk out to Five Rivers ๐Ÿฆ later this afternoon. I can’t go too late though as the sun โ˜€ will be setting late though.

Solar noon ๐ŸŒž is at 12:40 pm with sun having an altitude of 33.1ยฐ from the due south horizon (-37.7ยฐ vs. 6/21). A six foot person will cast a 9.2 foot shadow today compared to 2.2 feet on the first day of summer. The golden hour ๐Ÿ… starts at 5:10 pm with the sun in the west-southwest (244ยฐ). ๐Ÿ“ธ The sunset is in the west-southwest (251ยฐ) with the sun dropping below the horizon at 5:50 pm after setting for 3 minutes and 4 seconds with dusk around 6:18 pm, which is one minute and 19 seconds earlier than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ‡ At dusk you’ll see the Waining Gibbous ๐ŸŒ– Moon in the east-northeast (75ยฐ) at an altitude of 2ยฐ from the horizon, 251,983 miles away. ๐Ÿš€ The best time to look at the stars is after 6:53 pm. At sunset, look for clear skies ๐ŸŒ„ and temperatures around 42 degrees. There will be a south-southeast breeze at 5 mph. Today will have 10 hours and 20 minutes of daytime, a decrease of 2 minutes and 34 seconds over yesterday.

Tonight will have increasing clouds โ˜, with a low of 29 degrees at 11pm. Six degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical night around November 24th. Calm wind becoming south around 6 mph after midnight. Don’t forget to set your clock back one hour. ๐Ÿ•’ In 2019, we had light rain. It was somewhat humid. It got down to 42 degrees. The record low of 22 occurred back in 1964.

As previously noted, there are 3 weeks until Regular Deer Season in Southern Zone ๐ŸฆŒ when the sun will be setting at 4:27 pm with dusk at 4:58 pm (Standard Time). On that day in 2019, we had partly sunny, shallow fog and temperatures between 47 and 26 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 46 degrees. We hit a record high of 70 back in 1931.
