July 14, 2020 Night

Good evening! Partly clear and 71 degrees in Delmar, NY. Calm wind. The dew point is 63 degrees. It’s quite pleasant sitting out back, compared to being in the house. Very starry. ๐ŸŒŸ

I talked to my new neighbor about the parking, ๐Ÿ…ฟ and it turns out that I’m not blocking him and I can park back in my normal spot, so I can park in the back and sit on the tailgate with my truck. He just has a second big SUV he uses for road trips and his normal car is out front. It’s not like I’m not home to move my truck as when I’m home I’m usually remote working. ๐Ÿ’ป I might be working occasionally downtown but it seems like the office ๐Ÿข downtown will be largely closed through the end of the year due to social distancing requirements. ๐Ÿ‘ฅ

It was another hot day at least working inside. ๐Ÿ˜ฐ I have to try to work outside more. I also want to start doing more work on the library Wi-Fi as I noticed a slight uptick in my monthly average bandwidth and because the cellular internet can be slow and unreliable at times. Plus at the library I don’t have to worry about checking a personal site or my personal email ๐Ÿ“ง at work. I do miss having my air conditioning at the office downtown. I’ve heard they’re not planning on normal operations returning until at least winter 2021. ๐Ÿ‘พ Old Corona is going to be with use for a while.

With the sticky weather ๐Ÿ’ฆ lately I’ve having trouble sleeping ๐Ÿ˜ด and was feeling miserable by mid afternoon. I did buy mint crumble ice cream ๐Ÿจand that should have made me happy ๐Ÿ˜Š and it did but I still needed toothpicks on my eye lids to keep them open. ๐Ÿ‘€ Maybe I should buy more sleeping pills ๐Ÿ’Š and plan on early bed. I can say I’ll sleep in later but I don’t despite working at home. I charish my morning walk ๐Ÿšถ and with the sun bright so early, who can sleep? โ˜€

Tonight will have patchy fog after 5am. Otherwise, partly cloudy ๐ŸŒค, with a low of 62 degrees at 4am. Typical for tonight. Maximum dew point of 63 at 10pm. Light north wind. In 2019, we had mostly clear skies in the evening, which became partly cloudy by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 60 degrees. The record low of 44 occurred back in 1950.

Tonight will have a Waining Crescent ๐ŸŒ˜ Moon with 30% illuminated. The darkest hour is at 1:02 am, followed by dawn at 4:57 am, and sun starting to rise at 5:31 am in the east-northeast (59ยฐ) and last for 3 minutes and 22 seconds. Sunrise is 49 seconds later than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ„ The golden hour ends at 6:13 am with sun in the east-northeast (66ยฐ). Tonight will have 8 hours and 59 minutes of darkness, an increase of one minute and 28 seconds over last night.

Tomorrow will have patchy fog before 8am. Otherwise, mostly sunny ๐ŸŒž, with a high of 83 degrees at 3pm. Typical for Tomorrow. Maximum dew point of 64 at 8am. Another summer day for the muggers. Light and variable wind. A year ago, we had mostly sunny skies. The high last year was 85 degrees. The record high of 96 was set in 1997.

Tomorrow I told John Wolcott I will stop over to his house after work. ๐Ÿ”Ž Maybe we’ll find some jewels in his files ๐Ÿ“‚ but probably not. Still kind of interesting to see what’s out there. He has some boxes of Save the Pine Bush files that would be quite interesting to explore. I also am hoping to pick up soft vinyl – fiberglass screening to patch the hole in my screen tent. I figure that might be a good project to do up at camp โ›บ when I’m not at the Potholers cooling off. Good practice at my sewing skills. ๐Ÿงต

In four weeks on August 11 the sun will be setting in the west-northwest (291ยฐ) at 8:02 pm,๐ŸŒ„ which is 29 minutes and 23 seconds earlier then tonight. In 2019 on that day, we had mostly sunny and temperatures between 80 and 54 degrees. Typically, you have temperatures between 81 and 61 degrees. The record high of 98 degrees was set back in 1944.

Lately with all that’s been going on with work, my travels and everything else, ๐Ÿ“ I’ve been kind of neglecting my blog. I’m also working on an alternative photo uploader for my blog but I’ve struggled to get it working well. ๐Ÿ“ท I’m also working on a new page ๐Ÿ“„ and table about Moose River Plains camping opportunities.

Aa much as I’d like more stay home time ๐Ÿก to save money, I’m thinking about a trip to the Adirondacks this weekend. I am probably going to request next Monday off so I can spend a long weekend at Piseco Powley Road and the Potholers. I’m thinking of driving up on Thursday night, camping near Speculator, working at the library or along the lake all day than driving ๐Ÿš˜ down to Piseco Friday after work and camping at Powley Place through Monday. That said, Friday looks kind of shitty now. I will want to get to the Potholers at least once this summer even if it sucks that the road is still closed on the south end. I also want to see Powley Place and how much it’s changed since the bridge was destroyed. I’m tentatively thinking about doing summer vacation the first week of August this year, but where I’ve yet to decide.

Looking ahead, Election Day 2020 ๐Ÿ—ณ๏ธ is in 16 weeks.

Dusk

July 13, 2020 Night

Good evening! Cloudy and 69 degrees in Delmar, NY. โ˜ Calm wind. The dew point is 62 degrees. The skies will clear tomorrow around noontime.

Another night ๐ŸŒƒ staying up too late as a night owl. ๐Ÿฆ‰ In part its my fault but it’s also been so hot and sticky in my apartment that it’s hard sleeping. I sat out back for a while but I miss having my truck in my normal parking ๐Ÿ…ฟ spot. I got to talk to my neighbor about the parking. I much prefer my other spot as I can plug in my phone into my truck and it gives me some privacy and solitude sitting out back.

All day I stayed home ๐Ÿก which should make the COVID-19 internet uncle police ๐Ÿšจ happy, although what they mostly get their jollies off on these days is mask wearing. ๐Ÿ˜ท I don’t mind that much the rare times I go shopping to tie a bandana around my face. ๐Ÿค  I’m back to buying only one gallon of milk at a time because I probably shouldn’t be drinking so much of my favorite bovine beverage ๐Ÿฎ and I don’t worry as much about shopping now that the pandemic is starting to slow a lot locally. As much as I want to move out west, for now it seems a lot more in control around here than out west.

Tonight will have a slight chance of showers before midnight, then a slight chance of showers after 3am. Partly cloudy ๐ŸŒง, with a low of 62 degrees at 5am. Typical for tonight. Maximum dew point of 62 at 11pm. Light northwest wind. Chance of precipitation is 20%. Some showers could cool things off a bit. The record low of 49 occurred back in 1940.

July 12, 2020 Night

Good evening! Partly clear and 73 degrees in Delmar, NY. Calm wind. The dew point is 65 degrees. The muggy weather ends Wednesday around 7 pm. ๐Ÿ˜“

Another hot and sticky evening ๐ŸŒƒ laying by the fan after my evening walk. ๐ŸšถIts not as bad as last night but I wish I had stayed in the National Forest for the weekend but the forecast sure looked like Saturday was going to be wet and cloudy. Instead I spent it home sitting by the fan trying to stay cool. I probably should have done more this weekend but I did make some improvements to the blog and worked on other projects at home.

Tonight will have a chance of showers and thunderstorms. Mostly cloudy ๐ŸŒง, with a low of 67 degrees at 5am. Five degrees above normal. Maximum dew point of 65 at 11pm. Calm wind. In 2019, we had mostly clear skies in the evening, which became cloudy by the early hours of the morning. It was somewhat humid. It got down to 65 degrees. The record low of 45 occurred back in 1939.

Tonight will have a Last Quarter ๐ŸŒ— Moon with 48% illuminated. The Buck ๐ŸฆŒ Moon is on Monday, July 27. The darkest hour is at 1:02 am, followed by dawn at 4:56 am, and sun starting to rise at 5:30 am in the east-northeast (59ยฐ) and last for 3 minutes and 23 seconds. Sunrise is 47 seconds later than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ„ The golden hour ends at 6:12 am with sun in the east-northeast (66ยฐ). New rainfall amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms. A year ago, we had mostly sunny skies in the morning with a few breaks of sun the afternoon. It was humid. The high last year was 88 degrees. The record high of 96 was set in 1894.

Another hot day on tap but that’s to be expected this time of year. โ˜€ I haven’t made any plans yet for this week or the weekend but I guess I’ll be working from home or the library for now. Drink lots of water sit by the fan. I am sure missing the air conditioned office ๐Ÿข and library these days. Or even the cool of the buses ๐Ÿš in the morning. If it does get too hot by the end of the week I might seek out the mountains somewhere for remote work. Not sure where but my opportunities are limited by where I have good cell service.

I do need to think more about summer vacation ๐ŸŠ and request a week off the end of the month or maybe early August before the sun starts setting too early and the temperature starts dropping. ๐Ÿ‚ Been thinking more about the Finger Lakes and Alleghany National Forest but also the Western Adirondacks and Saint Lawrence County are on my short list. ๐Ÿ“ƒ When I’m on vacation I’ll be fully free to do whatever I want all day long and won’t have to worry about having cell service. ๐Ÿ“ฑ I really didn’t have a lot of free time when I was in the Green Mountains last week.

At my parents house tonight I was able to sync my blog with my laptop โ†”and get some new content uploaded for this week. It can be tough to constantly be coming up with ideas ๐Ÿ’ก and it’s hard to post things and develop code without the library open with its comfortable seating ๐Ÿ’บ inside.

In four weeks on August 9 the sun will be setting in the west-northwest (292ยฐ) at 8:05 pm,๐ŸŒ„ which is 27 minutes and 48 seconds earlier then tonight. The record high of 96 degrees was set back in 2001.

Towards Seneca Lake

July 12, 2020 Morning

Good morning! Happy Sunday. It’s rather cloudy and 76 degrees in Delmar, NY. โ˜ That said, the clouds are helping to keep it cooler. There is a west-southwest breeze at 7 mph. ๐Ÿƒ. The dew point is 64 degrees. The skies will clear around 10 am.

Another hazy, hot and humid day on tap. ๐Ÿ˜ฐ Cloudy start to day but I expect more sun later but a tad less humidity. I am going out to my parents house for a picnic this afternoon.

Today will be partly sunny ๐ŸŒž, with a high of 87 degrees at 3pm. Five degrees above normal. Maximum dew point of 65 at 9am. West wind 7 to 14 mph. A year ago, we had mostly sunny skies in the morning with a few breaks of sun the afternoon. It was humid. The high last year was 81 degrees. The record high of 96 was set in 1935.

Solar noon ๐ŸŒž is at 1:02 pm with sun having an altitude of 69.3ยฐ from the due south horizon (-1.6ยฐ vs. 6/21). On this day in 1967, the Newark Riots begin with over six days of rioting, looting, and destruction leaving 26 dead. We really are fortunate that despite living troubled times, there has been no rioting in our cities.

July 11, 2020 Morning

Good morning! Happy Saturday. Cloudy, humid and 72 degrees in Delmar, NY. โ˜” There is a south breeze at 8 mph. ๐Ÿƒ. The dew point is 70 degrees. It’s a swamp outside.

Maybe I should have stayed up in the Green Mountains for another day ๐Ÿ—ป as it was much cooler up there – most of the week was quite pleasant but it sure looked like last night was going to be a real soaker from Tropical Storm Fahy and today would be cloudy and damp. โ˜ But not so much now and it’s going to be hot in Albany. But I have fans that will help keep me cool. Thinking about maybe getting ice cream at Stewart’s when I get milk today. ๐Ÿง

Today will have a chance of showers, with thunderstorms also possible after 1pm. Some of the storms could produce gusty winds and heavy rain. Mostly cloudy ๐ŸŒฆ, with a high of 89 degrees at 4pm. Seven degrees above normal. Maximum dew point of 72 at 2pm. Heat index values as high as 95. Yeap, summer. Those lazy, hazy crazy days of summer. South wind 8 to 14 mph. Chance of precipitation is 50%. New rainfall amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms. A year ago, we had light rain in the morning with some clearing in the afternoon. It was humid. The high last year was 86 degrees. The record high of 98 was set in 1936.

Today I probably should get to the laundromat ๐Ÿ‘š ๐Ÿ‘– and also to Lowes to see if I can get soft screen repair material, run to the car wash ๐Ÿš˜ and maybe do some fishing ๐ŸŽฃ down at the Hudson River.

Tonight will have a Last Quarter ๐ŸŒ— Moon with 64% illuminated. At 6 AM, the moon was in the south (181ยฐ) at an altitude of 44ยฐ from the horizon, some 251,645 miles away from where you are looking up from the earth. ๐Ÿš€ At the state speed limit of 55 mph, you’ll make it there by January 18th. Buckle up for safety! ๐Ÿ’บ The moon will set in the west (266ยฐ) at 11:55 am. The Buck ๐ŸฆŒ Moon is on Sunday, July 26. The darkest hour is at 1:02 am, followed by dawn at 4:55 am, and sun starting to rise at 5:29 am in the east-northeast (59ยฐ) and last for 3 minutes and 23 seconds. The record low of 44 occurred back in 1978.

I am probably going to stay in town this week with the weather looking stormy. โšก I like to alternate weeks. I am thinking of taking the last week of July off for summer vacation – I was thinking a week in the western Adirondacks, Saint Lawrence County but maybe I’m leaning back towards the Finger Lakes again now that pools are open but I’m not sure if I want to wear a bandana over my face ๐Ÿ˜ท while laying on the grass after swimming. ๐ŸŠ Lowville is a fun town, I haven’t been there in years.

In four weeks on August 8 the sun will be setting in the west-northwest (293ยฐ) at 8:06 pm,๐ŸŒ„ which is 27 minutes earlier then today. Wakely Pond

July 8, 2020 Night

Good evening! Partly clear and 67 degrees at the Green Mountain National Forest. ๐ŸŒƒ There is a west-southwest breeze at 7 mph. ๐Ÿƒ. The dew point is 65 degrees. The muggy weather ends Tuesday around 10 pm. ๐Ÿ˜“

So after my spade โ™ค of bad luck ๐Ÿ€ yesterday I moved to a new campsite near the Somerset Bridge and the Airfield camping area. Not as quiet and remote as the other area, I’m close to a good swimming hole ๐ŸŠ and I have a lot more solar power and ability to enjoy the stars โœจ on a clear night. Radio ๐Ÿ“ป reception isn’t as good so I have fewer choices on live radio here – no New Hampshire or Vermont Public Radio here.

It was a busy day, warm but not as oppressive as it’s back in the city. ๐ŸŒ† I did go for a few short swims and cool downs during the day but most of the day I was up to my neck finishing up another one of those 30 page memos ๐Ÿ“ and then this afternoon it was a big spreadsheet project. ๐Ÿ“Š Rained for a while, actually it poured for a while at the four o’clock hour so my final hour โณ of the day was spent working from inside my truck cap. Internet worked fine most of the day ๐Ÿ“ถ and I had no trouble accessing the VPN connection for all the files ๐Ÿ“‚ I needed from the server. I also used the 120 volt fan in the tent ๐ŸŽช with my laptop and that worked good to keep things nice and comfortable.

While I’m still finding litter ๐Ÿšฎ at the campsite and are picking it up when I find it, I am quite happy with this campsite near the swimming hole even if it’s not the remote country of yesterday. ๐Ÿบ Being able to wash and cool off in the heat ๐Ÿ˜Ž makes it a lot more enjoyable.

I am thinking I will stay through Saturday morning, when it looks like it will be rainy. โ˜” By then the worse of the heat wave will likely break and I will have all day to drive home at my own pace rather than rushing home before 9 o’clock or leaving after 5 pm.

Tonight will have isolated showers before 10pm. Patchy fog after midnight. Otherwise, partly cloudy ๐ŸŒง, with a low of 64 degrees at 4am. Three degrees above normal. Maximum dew point of 66 at 11pm. West wind 5 to 7 mph. Chance of precipitation is 20%. In 2019, we had mostly clear skies. It got down to 59 degrees. The record low of 41 occurred back in 1963.

Tonight will have a Waining Gibbous ๐ŸŒ– Moon with 83% illuminated. The moon will rise at 11:11 pm. The Buck ๐ŸฆŒ Moon is on Thursday, July 23. The darkest hour is at 12:58 am, followed by dawn at 4:48 am, and sun starting to rise at 5:22 am in the east-northeast (58ยฐ) and last for 3 minutes and 26 seconds. Sunrise is 43 seconds later than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ„ The golden hour ends at 6:05 am with sun in the east-northeast (65ยฐ). Tonight will have 8 hours and 50 minutes of darkness, an increase of one minute and 8 seconds over last night.

Tomorrow will have a slight chance of showers, then a chance of showers and thunderstorms after 10am. Mostly sunny , with a high of 83 degrees at 3pm. One degree above normal, which is similar to a typical day around July 13th. Maximum dew point of 68 at 10am. Calm wind becoming southwest around 5 mph in the afternoon. Chance of precipitation is 30%. New rainfall amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms. A year ago, we had mostly sunny skies. The high last year was 86 degrees. The record high of 103 was set in 1936.

In four weeks on August 5 the sun will be setting in the west-northwest (294ยฐ) at 8:07 pm,๐ŸŒ„ which is 24 minutes and 46 seconds earlier then tonight. In 2019 on that day, we had sunny and temperatures between 83 and 54 degrees. Typically, you have temperatures between 82 and 61 degrees. The record high of 99 degrees was set back in 1955.

The Flow

July 5, 2020 Morning

Good morning! Happy Sunday. Independence Day has come and gone and I hope you have the same number of fingers โœ‹as yesterday. Mostly sunny and 66 degrees in Delmar, NY. Calm wind. The dew point is 58 degrees.

I just had breakfast ๐Ÿ›and are finishing up packing now. I want to try to leave a little after 10 am today – I need to get gas โ›ฝ and another bottle of cream for that most uncomfortable man problem ๐Ÿ†that is better this morning but should continue to be treated. It’s going to be hot this week but hopefully I can camp somewhere I have shade but also sun for the solar.

Today will be sunny and hot โ˜€, with a high of 90 degrees at 4pm. Eight degrees above normal. Maximum dew point of 60 at 6pm. Calm wind becoming northwest 5 to 7 mph in the afternoon. At least not super humid. A year ago, we had mostly sunny skies. It was sticky. The high last year was 92 degrees. The record high of 99 was set in 1919.

Solar noon ๐ŸŒž is at 1:01 pm with sun having an altitude of 70.1ยฐ from the due south horizon (-0.7ยฐ vs. 6/21). At sunset, look for mostly clear skies ๐ŸŒ„ and temperatures around 81 degrees. The dew point will be 62 degrees. There will be a west-northwest breeze at 5 mph. Today will have 15 hours and 11 minutes of daytime, a decrease of 56 seconds over yesterday.

Tonight will be mostly clear ๐ŸŒƒ, with a low of 65 degrees at 5am. Four degrees above normal. Maximum dew point of 62 at 8pm. West wind around 5 mph becoming calm in the evening. In 2019, we had mostly clear skies in the evening, which became partly cloudy by the early hours of the morning. It was very sticky. It got down to 73 degrees. The record low of 47 occurred back in 1962.

I still have to do the American Community Survey ๐Ÿ“ but I’m thinking I’ll do it from camp tomorrow. Once I’m set up I should have plenty of time to do what I need. Tuesday I’ll head into town for ice and to hop on the wireless internet at the library. ๐Ÿ“ถ

On this day in 1999, U.S. President Bill Clinton imposes trade and economic sanctions against the Taliban regime in Afghanistan. ๐ŸŽŽ So yes, the US was proactive on that but evidently not proactive enough.
