September 23, 2019 Morning

Good morning! Happy Autumn ๐Ÿ‚! Back to work, I have ethics training, lucky me. Whatever that advertising at the bus stop said. It’s important not to be indicted for a crime due to ethic violations, because it can be hard to buy guns for hunting when you have an outstanding warrant. Three weeks to Columbus Day ๐Ÿ›ฅ๏ธ. Partly sunny and 74 degrees in Delmar, NY. There is a south breeze at 9 mph. ๐Ÿƒ. The dew point is 64 degrees.

Today will be scattered showers and thunderstorms after noon. I brought my rain coat. Might be wet later and certainly warm. โ˜” Partly sunny ๐ŸŒž, with a high of 85 degrees at 1pm. 16 degrees above normal. Maximum dew point of 66 at 3pm. Southwest wind 9 to 13 mph, with gusts as high as 23 mph. Chance of precipitation is 40%. New rainfall amounts of less than a tenth of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms. A year ago, we had mostly sunny skies in the morning with a few breaks of sun the afternoon. The high last year was 66 degrees. The record high of 97 was set in 1895.

The sun will set at 6:51 pm with dusk around 7:19 pm, which is one minute and 47 seconds earlier than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ‡ At sunset, look for rain showers ๐ŸŒง and thunderstorms ๐ŸŒฉ and temperatures around 73 degrees. The dew point will be 65 degrees. There will be a west-southwest breeze at 7 mph. Today will have 12 hours and 8 minutes of daytime, an increase of 2 minutes and 52 seconds over yesterday.

Tonight will have showers and thunderstorms likely before 1am, then a slight chance of showers between 1am and 2am. Mostly cloudy ๐ŸŒง, with a low of 58 degrees at 6am. 10 degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical night around August 30th. Maximum dew point of 65 at 6pm. West wind 6 to 8 mph. Chance of precipitation is 60%. New precipitation amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms. In 2018, we had cloudy skies in the evening, which became mostly clear by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 46 degrees. The record low of 27 occurred back in 1963.

A picture perfect weekend on tap. ๐Ÿ˜Ž Saturday, mostly sunny, with a high near 77. Maximum dew point of 57 at 4pm. Sunday, partly sunny, with a high near 76. Maximum dew point of 58 at 1pm. Typical average high for the weekend is 67 degrees.

No camping this weekend. I want to get Mr. Sqweak checked out before I hrd back out to the wilderness. Plus I should save money, ๐Ÿ’ต get packed up and ready for vacation. I need to research camping opportunities in Jefferson National Forest in Southern West Virginia. I just need a week off before I spend nine or ten days traveling. ๐Ÿš™

Mr. Sqweak Sqweak. ๐Ÿ Big Red is getting looked at next Tuesday. The first appointment I could get at the dealership was Saturday and I doubt a local shop ๐Ÿช could work on it before then. Or they’d want to work on it Friday and it would get stuck in the shop all weekend. I haven’t heard back from shop yet about my online appointment but they’ll call ๐Ÿ“ž today. I did get an email from Onstar saying that the system detected a maintenance issue but I’m not sure if that was because I filed ๐Ÿ“‚ an online request for service. I expect that I’ll be able to pick it up the same day.

Price Chopper Garbage Bags. The other day when I went to the store I ended up buying black garbage bags at Price Chopper. ๐Ÿšฎ I’m quite happy with them. ๐Ÿ˜Š They don’t seem to rip as much as the cheaper bags when I smash down the garbage. As I either burn or it in the woods or pay two dollars ๐Ÿ’ต a bag at the transfer station, you really need to smash it down as much as possible. As I compost, and at left recycle the cans and glass (and paper separately), I can take the trash to the outside can once a month or less after compaction with my boots.

Litter in the back country. It seems like since they’ve added the picnic tables and outhouses to the campsites on Pisceo-Powley Road litter has become a bigger problem. ๐Ÿšฎ More cans and just miscellaneous stuff. I will burn and pack out what’s reasonable in my campsite but I’m not going clean the whole area up. This one campsite I visited putting my kayak in to the East Canada Creek somebody had left doughnuts and a fire smoldering full of debris. ๐Ÿ’ญ I don’t care if people burn packaging ๐Ÿ”ฅ but people should take home and recycle โ™ป what doesn’t burn.

Credit card and vacation. ๐Ÿ’ณ I figured out that the expenses I have for vacation will fall onto the November card payment so I’ll have a few paychecks before then to build up savings to pay it. And I don’t expect vacation to be more than $500 and probably less, depending on gas prices and how many nights I stay at developed campgrounds probably mostly just for a shower ๐Ÿšฟ.

As previously noted, there are 3 weeks until Columbus Day ๐Ÿ›ฅ๏ธ when the sun will be setting at 6:15 pm with dusk at 6:43 pm. On that day in 2018, we had mostly sunny and temperatures between 59 and 40 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 61 degrees. We hit a record high of 81 back in 1920.

September 4, 2019 Morning

Good morning! Happy Back to School Day ๐ŸŽ’! It’s a Hump Day although so far traffic hasn’t been too bad. Taking the express in today. ๐ŸšŒ Wednesday is September 11th ๐Ÿ‡ธ. Hard to believe 18 years has passed since then. A child born after September 11th can vote this year. โ˜‘ I was 18 when the attacks happened, I’m twice that now.

Mostly cloudy and 66 degrees at the Elm Ave Park & Ride – CDTA. โ›… There is a south breeze at 13 mph. ๐Ÿƒ wit. There is a touch of humidity with the dew point around 60 degrees. The skies will clear around 4 pm. Not a terrible walk but brisk because I was a little bit late.๐Ÿšถ

Today will have showers and thunderstorms likely, mainly between 1pm and 4pm. Some of the storms could produce small hail and gusty winds. Mostly cloudy โ˜ , with a high of 79 degrees at 1pm. Two degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical day around August 27th. Maximum dew point of 65 at 3pm. Southwest wind 13 to 16 mph, with gusts as high as 28 mph. Chance of precipitation is 70%. New rainfall amounts of less than a tenth of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms. A year ago, we had partly cloudy skies in the morning with some clearing in the afternoon. It was somewhat humid. The high last year was 89 degrees. The record high of 97 was set in 1929.

The sun will set at 7:24 pm with dusk around 7:53 pm, which is one minute and 43 seconds earlier than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ‡ At sunset, look for rain ๐ŸŒง and temperatures around 72 degrees. The dew point will be 59 degrees. There will be a west-northwest breeze at 13 mph. Today will have 13 hours of daytime, an increase of 2 minutes and 47 seconds over yesterday.

Tonight will be scattered showers and thunderstorms before 7pm, then isolated showers between 7pm and 8pm. Patchy fog after 5am. Otherwise, partly cloudy , with a low of 54 degrees at 5am. Two degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical night around September 9th. Maximum dew point of 59 at 6pm. Northwest wind 8 to 13 mph becoming light after midnight. Chance of precipitation is 30%. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms. In 2018, we had mostly clear skies in the evening, which became mostly clear by the early hours of the morning. It became very sticky as the night progressed. It got down to 65 degrees. The record low of 37 occurred back in 1974.

Yesterday was a busy day as expected ๐Ÿ’ผ but what got needed to be done got done. I ended up going to the library for a while last night to work on a work project that I had fallen behind schedule somewhat.๐Ÿ“š I was going to work on the blog and some other stuff down there, but the work stuff consumed all my time, and then it was time to go home. Then I ended up going home, and just watching a video I downloaded on my laptop.๐Ÿ“ผ I also put away my camping gear. I misplaced my Bluetooth adapter — I think it’s in my truck but it was getting dark and I couldn’t find it last night.

Still looks like this weekend will be sunny but cool. ๐Ÿ˜Ž Saturday, mostly sunny, with a high near 73. Maximum dew point of 55 at 7pm. Sunday, mostly sunny, with a high near 71. Maximum dew point of 55 at 6am. Typical average high for the weekend is 76 degrees.

This weekend I am thinking I’ll get a hair cut, ๐Ÿ’ˆand maybe then on Sunday go hiking ๐Ÿšถ before I go out to my parents house, maybe down in the Catskills. Or maybe I’ll head up to Partridge Run and do some hunting, hiking, and fishing. Not totally sure. ๐Ÿ’ญย I don’t want to plan a big adventure to save money, and also because I have a lot of things I need to do around the house, including getting the Save the Pine Bush Map Pyramid Properties Map printed at a print shop before next week. Next Tuesday I’ll be down in New York City, so that will take up most of my day in the evening. The hearing is Wednesday.

Two weeks from Saturday is the Pine Bush Bird Watching Hike ๐Ÿฆ๐Ÿ•Š so I will probably stay in town that weekend, and then there is only one more weekend in September — and the first week of October I’m leaving for West Virginia. ๐Ÿš˜ So who knows how many more times I’ll get out this month. I do think I want to do a fall trip up to Piseco-Powley Road, although sometimes those campsites get snapped up quickly during hunting season. ๐Ÿฟ๏ธ That said, my West Virginia trip is early enough in October this year so I might be able to do a late October trip.๐Ÿ‚

I’ve been continuing to research the various Python and Javascript libraries available for interacting with Renology Rover MPPT controller.ย ๐Ÿ”ณ I am increasingly thinking that’s what I will get around Christmas this year, when sales are available, and I want to hook up the Raspberry Pi to use it to broadcast battery status information to my phone using Bluetooth, and then also read data from the starting battery, and dumping excess current into the starting battery to keep it topped up. Using a Raspberry Pi and the MPPT controller could minimize the amount of wires and components I need to build my smart relay, reducing the chance of failure.๐Ÿ’ป

Today in 1970, Salvador Allende is elected President of Chile. ๐Ÿ‡จ๐Ÿ‡ฑ Only three years later on September 11th, he would be assassinated with the help of the United States by one of the most notorious tyrants Augusto Pinochet. โœŠ The Price is Right went on CBS for the first time in 1972, and over the past five decades hasn’t changed much.๐Ÿค‘ I used to like watching it on my grandfather’s TV some 30 years ago.๐Ÿ“บ

Also, in 1949 The Peekskill riots were anti-communist race riots directed against African Americans and Jews attending a civil rights benefit concert. ๐ŸŽท The catalyst for the rioting was an announced concert by black singer Paul Robeson, who was well known for his strong pro-trade union stance, civil rights activism, communist affiliations, and anti-colonialism.โš– The concert, organized as a benefit for the Civil Rights Congress, was scheduled to take place on August 27 in Lakeland Acres.

As previously noted, there are 2 weeks until 7 PM Sunset ๐ŸŒ† when the sun will be setting at 6:59 pm with dusk at 7:27 pm. On that day in 2018, we had rain and temperatures between 84 and 68 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 71 degrees. We hit a record high of 91 back in 1891.

Paddling Thru Cedar River

September 2, 2019 Morning

Good morning! Happy Labor Day ๐Ÿ‘จโ€๐Ÿญ! Kind of a rainy, wet Labor Day although things seem to be improving. I made some coffee up โ˜• and are finishing taking down my campsite. I took down the flags last night and my truck cap stayed pretty dry last night despite the intense rain we had for a while. ๐Ÿ’ฆ This campsite is well drained so the rain wasn’t really an issue.

This Labor Day morning is cloudy, damp and 57 degrees at the Perkins Clearing Easement. โ˜ There is a south breeze at 10 mph. ๐Ÿƒ. The dew point is 57 degrees. Not going to be a real nice day but it looks like the rain has let up and the skies will clear around 7 pm.

Labor Day will have showers and possibly a thunderstorm before 1pm, then a chance of showers and thunderstorms, mainly between 1pm and 5pm. ๐ŸŒฆ High of 64 degrees at 3pm. 12 degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical day around October 2nd. Maximum dew point of 61 at 2pm. ๐Ÿ–๏ธ South wind 5 to 10 mph becoming west in the afternoon. Chance of Perkins Clearingprecipitation is 90%. New rainfall amounts between a quarter and half of an inch possible. A year ago, we had mostly sunny skies. It became sticky as the day progressed. The high last year was 83 degrees. The record high of 100 was set in 1953.

The sun will set at 7:31 pm with dusk around 8:00 pm, which is one minute and 45 seconds earlier than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ‡ At sunset, look for partly cloudy skies ๐ŸŒƒ and temperatures around 60 degrees. The dew point will be 58 degrees. There will be a west-northwest breeze at 8 mph. Today will have 13 hours and 7 minutes of daytime, an increase of 2 minutes and 52 seconds over yesterday.

Tonight will be mostly cloudy ๐ŸŒฅ, with a low of 52 degrees at 4am. Four degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical night around September 14th. Maximum dew point of 58 at 6pm. West wind 5 to 7 mph. In 2018, we had mostly clear skies in the evening, which became mostly clear by the early hours of the morning. It was very sticky. It got down to 73 degrees. The record low of 39 occurred back in 1976.

So Labor Day Weekend has come and gone. Well at least the camping โ›บ part of it once I finish taking down camp. I am in no rush at any rate. I might go for a walk ๐Ÿšถ at the Speculator River Walk before heading home ๐Ÿก but then I’ll be home. Four weeks from now I’ll be West Virginia, ๐Ÿ‘as I’m doing my road trip a week earlier this year as usually the colors are done by Columbus Day Weekend in the high country and because I’m house sitting as my parents house the following week. ๐Ÿถ

The camp stove continues to work well with both burners โ™จ and I’ll replace the broken chair ๐Ÿšฎbefore the next time I camp. ๐Ÿ’บNeed to get propane, especially now that I know they don’t sell it at Tractor Supply ๐Ÿšœ in Amsterdam. That said, there were plenty of other places that sold propane, but I skipped it and I made out okay, although I’ll need it for the next trip.

I could have gotten propane at Frank’s Gun Store on the way up here but I’d probably end up buying yet another gun ๐Ÿ”ซ and honestly I need to save some money as my car insurance is due at the end of the month. ๐Ÿ’ต I thought about switching insurers but I’ll probably just drop off my insurance reduction certificate from the class to State Farm. I like the coverage and rates of Progressive but it’s a pain figuring out all the details of the switch. ๐Ÿ”Ž The difference in price for equivalent plans isn’t that great.

Probably cheaper to get propane at Tractor Supply, it’s a loss leader for them to sell more cowboy hats ๐ŸŽฉ and in my case more Carhart shit that I just got to have. But self restraint is possible in hopes of a better life tomorrow in a freer state. โœ… Gotta have the AR-15 to ventilate that garbage burning barrel, when you live out in the sticks in a red state. How else are you going to have fun putting holes in your barrel?๐Ÿ›ข๐Ÿ”ซ

Changing topics, I need to get a better shovel. It’s hard digging through the roots to bury the poop at the end of the camping trip. ๐Ÿ’ฉ A troel works but it’s hard work. While the bucket shitter means I’m only digging one hole, I like digging a deep hole because I hate finding toilet paper flowers in the woods. I guess I should separate out the toilet paper and burn it but as long as it’s buried deep enough with the bacteria from the poop it should rot away quickly. I bet the local hardware store would sell a small spade โ™ค for such purposes.

Cool next weekend with temperatures running 15 degrees below normal but otherwise sunny. ๐Ÿ˜ƒ Saturday, partly sunny, with a high near 63. Maximum dew point of 49 at 12pm. Sunday, partly sunny, with a high near 59. Typical average high for the weekend is 76 degrees. Probably won’t be so cool back in Albany but hardly swimming weather at any rate. I might hunt next weekend ๐Ÿ€ at a local state forest ๐ŸŒฒ but I doubt I’ll head out of town for a few more weeks. I like traveling but becomes a lot of work after a while and there is a lot of things I could be doing closer to home. ๐Ÿข

Plus all that beer drinking ๐Ÿป around the campfire ๐Ÿ”ฅ probably ain’t that healthy for me or my finances. I returned 107 beer cans from camp to Shoprite the other day. โ™ป It’s all from camping because I don’t drink at home. I don’t always eat the healthiest crap up at camp and maybe have a smoke from time to time. ๐Ÿด Camping is fun but maybe too much fun at times.

Looking ahead, there are 5 weeks until Columbus Day ๐Ÿ›ฅ๏ธ when the sun will be setting at 6:27 pm with dusk at 6:56 pm. On that day in 2018, we had cloudy, mist and temperatures between 72 and 52 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 63 degrees. We hit a record high of 89 back in 1963.

Saturday I hiked Panther Mountain

September 1, 2019 Night

Good evening! Cloudy and 60 degrees at the Perkins Clearing. โ˜ There is a south-southeast breeze at 7 mph. ๐Ÿƒ. The dew point is 53 degrees. A few sprinkles here and there but no heavy rain yet. Kind of a dark and breezy nih in the woods. ๐Ÿ’จThe skies will clear Tuesday around 8 am.

A very brief rain shower โ˜” made me take down the hammock and grab the rain coat but as quick as it came it stopped. I sat by the fire ๐Ÿ”ฅ for a while but decided to hang up my hammock after I leaned over and my chair snapped. I’m not surprised ๐Ÿ˜ฒ, I knew it was about to break. I usually only get about a year out of those camp chairs unfortunately. I’ll leave the old one at Walmart for landfill disposal and pick up a new one the next time I’m there.

The wind ๐Ÿƒ caught one of the candles on the ground on fire ๐Ÿ”ฅ and proceeded to start a minor grass fire. ๐ŸŒพ I was able to stomp it out but I had no idea how combustible the grass was up here.

I fully expect in a few hours maybe less it will start to pour. ๐Ÿ’ฆ But I have everything put away that shouldn’t get wet or would otherwise require drying when I got home. It may very well be a quite wet night but it’s been a good long weekend up north and this campsite is well drained so I expect no flooding here at camp. Probably leave fairly early tomorrow and drive home in the rain and get unpacked. ๐Ÿก Not a big deal. Probably next weekend I’ll stay in town. The following week I’m heading down to New York for work so it will be nice to have a weekend just at home.

Tonight will have showers likely, then showers and possibly a thunderstorm after midnight. Some of the storms could produce gusty winds and heavy rain. ๐ŸŒง Low of 56 degrees at 4am. Two degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical night around September 6th. Maximum dew point of 56 at 12am. ๐Ÿ–๏ธ South wind around 8 mph. Chance of precipitation is 90%. New rainfall amounts between a half and three quarters of an inch possible. In 2018, we had cloudy skies in the evening, which became mostly clear by the early hours of the morning. It was humid. It got down to 66 degrees. The record low of 38 occurred back in 2017.

Tonight will have a Waxing Crescent Moon ๐ŸŒ’ with 19% illuminated. The moon will rise at 10:05 am. The First Quarter Moon is on Wednesday night with a chance of showers then partly cloudy skies. The Harvest Moon ๐ŸŒ is on Friday, September 13th. The sun will rise at 6:22 am with the first light at 5:52 am, which is one minute and 7 seconds later than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ„ Tonight will have 10 hours and 50 minutes of darkness, an increase of 2 minutes and 52 seconds over last night.

Labor Day will have showers and possibly a thunderstorm, mainly before 4pm, then a chance of showers and thunderstorms after 4pm. Some of the storms could produce gusty winds and heavy rain. ๐ŸŒง High of 66 degrees at 3pm. 11 degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical day around September 30th. Maximum dew point of 60 at 1pm. ๐Ÿ–๏ธ South wind 7 to 9 mph. Chance of precipitation is 90%. New rainfall amounts between a half and three quarters of an inch possible. A year ago, we had partly cloudy skies in the morning, remaining cloudy in the afternoon. It was somewhat humid. The high last year was 83 degrees. The record high of 100 was set in 1953.

Today was kind of a lazy day. I reolacd the other burner in the camp stove and reglued the knob that had come loose and it seems like both burners are working good in the stove. โ™จ With colder weather ahead I plan to be doing more cooking. I did go for a brief walk but I didn’t hear much squirrel activity I think due to the unstable weather. So it was spaghetti ๐Ÿ and meatballs for dinner. At least it seems like both burners are working well on the camp stove. The bulk of the day was spent reading ๐Ÿ“– a book in my hammock about the mission creep of the defense department. As defense increasingly becomes the only department that politicians want to fund, its mission keeps expanding. ๐Ÿ’ฃ

This upcoming week I want to hook up the low voltage disconnect reset button again ๐Ÿ”˜in case I ever need to reset the power while camping on these longer nights. Doesn’t happen raglan anymore but I hate to be plunged into darkness without an easy way to restore power to the truck cap.

In four weeks on September 29 the sun will be setting at 6:41 pm,๐ŸŒ„ which is 50 minutes and 47 seconds earlier then tonight. In 2018 on that day, we had mostly sunny, patches of fog and temperatures between 68 and 47 degrees. Typically, you have temperatures between 67 and 46 degrees. The record high of 86 degrees was set back in 1921.

Looking ahead, Autumn ๐Ÿ‚ is in 3 weeks, October ๐Ÿ›ฅ is a month away and Average High is 60 ๐Ÿ‚ is in 6 weeks.

Goldrod

August 31, 2019 Night

Good evening! Mostly clear and 53 degrees at the Perkins Clearing. Starry night ๐ŸŒƒ, beautiful looking up at the starry skies but no northern lights.๐Ÿ˜ Calm wind. The dew point is 48 degrees. Cool but in my hoodie not too bad. I brought the propane heater โ™จ for the cold mornings but so far I haven’t used it. Maybe tomorrow though it will be nice with a hot cup of coffee. โ˜•

I thought today was a good day. ๐Ÿšถ It was nice hiking Pillsbury Mountain, it’s been eight years since I last done it. I was up there for an hour with nobody else around. First time ever going back to Cedar Lake in the West Canada Lakes Wilderness, it’s an area that I want to explore more. ๐Ÿธ The trails back there are pretty good and not real steep. I really should spend more nights back in the wilderness but I do like the ease of truck cap camping. I was happy ๐Ÿ˜Š that I didn’t run into many crowds back there although there was a couple ๐Ÿ‘ซ camping โ›บ back at Cedar Lake but I headed to a different part of the lake for solitude.

Tonight will be partly cloudy ๐ŸŒค, with a low of 45 degrees at 3am. 12 degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical night around September 30th. Light north wind. In 2018, we had light rain in the evening, which became partly cloudy by the early hours of the morning. It was somewhat humid. It got down to 66 degrees. The record low of 41 occurred back in 1967.

Tonight will have a Waxing Crescent Moon ๐ŸŒ’ with 10% illuminated. The moon will rise at 8:50 am. The First Quarter Moon is on Wednesday night with partly cloudy skies. The Harvest Moon ๐ŸŒ is on Friday, September 13th. The sun will rise at 6:21 am with the first light at 5:51 am, which is one minute and 6 seconds later than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ„ Tonight will have 10 hours and 47 minutes of darkness, an increase of 2 minutes and 52 seconds over last night.

Tomorrow will be partly sunny ๐ŸŒž, with a high of 68 degrees at 2pm. Nine degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical day around September 25th. Maximum dew point of 52 at 6pm. Light and variable wind becoming south 5 to 8 mph in the morning. A year ago, we had mostly sunny skies in the morning, remaining cloudy in the afternoon. It became somewhat humid as the day progressed. The high last year was 79 degrees. The record high of 96 was set in 1953.

I might just hang out at camp tomorrow โ›บ with a good book ๐Ÿ“™ in the hammock or I could go hiking again. ๐Ÿšถ Small game season opens tomorrow for squirrel,๐Ÿ€ but we will see. I could drive over to Mason Lake and do some fishing ๐ŸŽฃ or maybe up to Watch Hill and hike it ๐Ÿšถ. Probably though will stay in camp, maybe see if I could drop some tree rats but I’ll see.

Tomorrow night is going to be quite wet based on the current model ๐Ÿ’ฆbut hopefully the rain will hold off until late. I’d like to enjoy a nice Sunday and then just overnight in the truck cap and head home early on Labor Day. This campsite is well drained so I’m not worried about mud by there also is no practical way to hang up tarps here.

In four weeks on September 28 the sun will be setting at 6:43 pm,๐ŸŒ„ which is 50 minutes and 43 seconds earlier then tonight. In 2018 on that day, we had rain and temperatures between 62 and 52 degrees. Typically, you have temperatures between 67 and 46 degrees. The record high of 83 degrees was set back in 2014.

Looking ahead, Average High 70 ๐ŸŽ‘ is in 3 weeks.

Wild Lands in Northern Catskills

August 31, 2019 Morning

Good morning! Where did Summer go? Trump must have stolen it away. ๐Ÿ˜” Three weeks to Average High 70 ๐ŸŽ‘. Autumn is coming. Mostly sunny and 49 degrees at the Perkins Clearing. Calm wind. With the sun it doesn’t feel that cold though. โ˜€

I ended up deciding to go up to that campsite I like up in Perkins Clearing in the Adirondacks. โ›บ I did drive up to an swing by Fox Lair but that campsite was taken and I honestly didn’t want to listen to the road noise all weekend long. I thought I stop by at any rate. This campsite has good views of the skies so it’s nice on starry nights ๐ŸŒƒ although I don’t know how I’ll string up a tarp should it rain on Sunday. My guess is that I probably won’t.

Today will be sunny ๐ŸŒž, with a high of 67 degrees at 3pm. 11 degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical day around September 28th. That said it is usually colder up north. Maximum dew point of 48 at 9am. Calm wind becoming northwest 5 to 7 mph in the morning. A year ago, we had mostly sunny skies in the morning, remaining cloudy in the afternoon. It became somewhat humid as the day progressed. The high last year was 74 degrees. The record high of 93 was set in 1953.

Today I’m planning on either hiking back to Pillsbury Lake or Pillsbury Mountain. ๐Ÿ—ป I am a bit undecided on that point. I’ve done Pillsbury Mountain before but there are nice views from the fire tower. Nice cool and clear day to boot. I just got to finish securing camp, change, and I should be on the trail by ten o’clock.

The sun will set at 7:34 pm with dusk around 8:03 pm, which is one minute and 45 seconds earlier than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ‡ At sunset, look for mostly clear skies ๐ŸŒ„ and temperatures around 61 degrees. The dew point will be 46 degrees. There will be a north-northwest breeze at 5 mph. Today will have 13 hours and 13 minutes of daytime, an increase of 2 minutes and 52 seconds over yesterday.

Tonight will have patchy fog after 4am. Otherwise, partly cloudy ๐ŸŒƒ, with a low of 43 degrees at 5am. 14 degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical night around October 5th. Light north wind. In 2018, we had light rain in the evening, which became partly cloudy by the early hours of the morning. It was somewhat humid. It got down to 66 degrees. The record low of 41 occurred back in 1967.

I got these really nice sunglasses ๐Ÿ˜Ž from Walmart. While they are all plastic, they are lightweight but not overly dark and have good coverage over the eyes. ๐Ÿ‘€ You can almost forget that you are wearing them.

I finished reading ๐Ÿ“– Paul Theroux’s Deep South. What a great book. It makes me want to explore the rural south, especially the Ozarks and Missouri which seems like some really wild country with few restrictions on guns ๐Ÿ”ซ or open burning. ๐Ÿ”ฅ Plus they are very friendly towards farming, ๐Ÿฎ homesteading ๐Ÿทand off grid living. ๐Ÿก

On this day in 1965, Super Guppy took it’s first flight. โœˆ The aero Spacelines Super Guppy is a large, wide-bodied cargo aircraft that is used for hauling outsize cargo components. It was the successor to the Pregnant Guppy, the first of the Guppy aircraft produced by Aero Spacelines, which in turn was named for its resemblance to a pregnant guppy. Five were built in two variants, both of which were colloquially referred to as the “Super Guppy”. Now crank up that Steve Miller record, Jet Liner. ๐ŸŽถ

As previously noted, there are 3 weeks until Average High 70 ๐ŸŽ‘ when the sun will be setting at 6:56 pm with dusk at 7:24 pm. On that day in 2018, we had mostly cloudy, rain showers and temperatures between 71 and 65 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 70 degrees. We hit a record high of 95 back in 1895.
