June 6, 2021 Morning

Good morning! Happy Sunday. Next Sunday is Fathers Day ๐Ÿ‘จ . Also the Gas Up ๐Ÿšœ is next weekend. I should see if my dad wants to go, otherwise I might tent or hammock camp overnight in Schoharie County and go the next morning. Partly cloudy and 67 degrees at the Mason Lake. โ›… There is a west breeze at 8 mph. ๐Ÿƒ. The dew point is 58 degrees.

It’s a pretty nice morning for sure. I had breakfast of eggs and sausage ๐Ÿณ and sat in the screen tent ๐ŸŽช then back out in the hammock. Been working on a blog post about mental illness stigma and the media and just hanging out. I’m going to need to take down camp โ›บ and head into town later to get ice as the heat has been tough on the coolers and while I can probably go another day, I think that will be really pushing it. I didn’t have salt for salt water ice and while I could probably wait until Monday I don’t want to deal with spoiled milk or rancid meat. ๐Ÿคฎ

Yesterday was a pretty lazy day in the hammock. ๐Ÿ˜ด That was the plan. I did a lot of day drinking in the heat ๐Ÿป and got quite buzzed but who cares I haven’t started my truck since Friday as I used the solar go keep things charged. ๐Ÿ”‹ Did some fishing ๐ŸŽฃ and went for a swim in Mason Lake, it was cold and mucky as to be expected. ๐Ÿฆ† Walked down to the other end of the lake and saw a few Mallard ducks fly off. Been hearing a lot from the loons but I haven’t seen them but honestly I spent more time in the hammock then down by the lake yesterday.

Today will be mostly sunny ๐ŸŒž, with a high of 83 degrees at 3pm. Six degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical day around June 28th. Maximum dew point of 59 at 10am. West wind 8 to 11 mph. A year ago, we had partly cloudy skies in the morning with some clearing in the afternoon. It was somewhat humid. The high last year was 86 degrees. The record high of 94 was set in 1925.

I think today I will pack up โ›บ and head into Spectulator. While it is getting warm fast, I am thinking about hiking back to the Kunjamuk Cave and Elm Lake. I could drive there but I would rather park the truck and walk ๐Ÿšถ๐Ÿป so I can look at birds ๐Ÿฆ and wildlife ๐ŸฆŒ. I need to get a block of ice โ„ a Charlie John’s and then I want to get some ice cream ๐Ÿฆand go for a swim in Lake Pleasant at the town beach ๐Ÿ– which isn’t officially open yet but I am sure there will be a ton of people there. ๐ŸŠ๐Ÿปโ€โ™‚๏ธ

Solar noon ๐ŸŒž is at 12:57 pm with sun having an altitude of 69.1ยฐ from the due south horizon (-0.7ยฐ vs. 6/21). A six foot person will cast a 2.3 foot shadow today compared to 2.2 feet on the first day of summer. The golden hour ๐Ÿ… starts at 7:53 pm with the sun in the west-northwest (296ยฐ). ๐Ÿ“ธ The sunset is in the west-northwest (303ยฐ) with the sun dropping below the horizon at 8:37 pm after setting for 3 minutes and 30 seconds with dusk around 9:11 pm, which is 41 seconds later than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ‡ The best time to look at the stars is after 9:58 pm. At sunset, look for mostly clear skies ๐ŸŒ„ and temperatures around 76 degrees. The dew point will be 60 degrees. There will be a west-southwest breeze at 8 mph. Today will have 15 hours and 19 minutes of daytime, an increase of one minute over yesterday.

Tonight will be mostly clear ๐ŸŒƒ, with a low of 61 degrees at 4am. Six degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical night around June 27th. Maximum dew point of 60 at 8pm. West wind 5 to 8 mph. In 2020, we had mostly clear skies in the evening, which became cloudy by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 54 degrees. The record low of 37 occurred back in 1958.

As previously noted, next Sunday is Fathers Day ๐Ÿ‘จ when the sun will be setting at 8:40 pm with dusk at 9:15 pm. On that day in 2020, we had cold, partly sunny and temperatures between 66 and 46 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 79 degrees. We hit a record high of 94 back in 1892.

June 5, 2021 Morning

Good morning! Today is the first 8:30 PM Sunset ๏ธโ›ฑ๏ธ . Actually a bit later here as I’m farther to the west here in the Adirondacks. Two weeks to Average High is 80 ๐Ÿ– . Mostly sunny and 69 degrees at Mason Lake. There is a west-southwest breeze at 13 mph. ๐Ÿƒ. The dew point is 57 degrees. The breeze this morning is nice and keeping the bugs in control. ๐Ÿœ Last night until dusk the black flies were bad but this morning with the low humidity, they aren’t bad at all.

Today will be mostly sunny ๐ŸŒž, with a high of 83 degrees at 2pm. Six degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical day around June 28th. Maximum dew point of 57 at 10am. West wind 13 to 17 mph, with gusts as high as 28 mph. Up north with that breeze it should be pretty nice. Back in Albany I bet they are roasting. A year ago, we had partly cloudy skies in the morning with some clearing in the afternoon. It was sticky. The high last year was 85 degrees. The record high of 97 was set in 1925.

I am planning a pretty lazy day on the hammock, ๐Ÿ˜ด maybe doing some fishing ๐ŸŽฃ, day drinking ๐Ÿป, laying in the hammock and possibly a swim ๐ŸŠ๐Ÿปโ€โ™‚๏ธ. I don’t feel real ambitious, going to be a hot one and truth be told, I just want a day and away from it all. Between that fire at Mr. Wolcott’s house to issues I have in my own life, to everything that’s been going on in my life its but wild. ๐Ÿคช I just want a weekend with nothing crazy going on, just quiet and relaxing. Next week is going to be really busy and there might be some work projects today so I’m camping ๐Ÿ• here at Mason Lake where I know I have good cell service ๐Ÿ“ฑ. Lots of laying back.

Solar noon ๐ŸŒž is at 12:57 pm with sun having an altitude of 69ยฐ from the due south horizon (-0.8ยฐ vs. 6/21). A six foot person will cast a 2.3 foot shadow today compared to 2.2 feet on the first day of summer. The golden hour ๐Ÿ… starts at 7:53 pm with the sun in the west-northwest (296ยฐ). ๐Ÿ“ธ The sunset is in the west-northwest (303ยฐ) with the sun dropping below the horizon at 8:36 pm after setting for 3 minutes and 29 seconds with dusk around 9:10 pm, which is 43 seconds later than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ‡ The best time to look at the stars is after 9:57 pm. At sunset, look for partly cloudy skies ๐ŸŒƒ and temperatures around 75 degrees. The dew point will be 54 degrees. There will be a west breeze at 15 mph. Today will have 15 hours and 18 minutes of daytime, an increase of one minute and 4 seconds over yesterday.

Tonight will be partly cloudy ๐ŸŒค, with a low of 63 degrees at 4am. Eight degrees above normal. Maximum dew point of 54 at 6pm. West wind 10 to 15 mph. In 2020, we had mostly clear skies in the evening, which became partly cloudy by the early hours of the morning. It was humid. It got down to 60 degrees. The record low of 38 occurred back in 1971.

Yesterday when I went to boot windows for the Zoom Meeting ๐Ÿ“น the silly windows took 25 minutes to boot so my cover was blown that I was working from the Adirondacks as I had to connect using my phone without the virtual background. It’s the worst kept secret ever that I often work from the Adirondacks when working remotely. ๐Ÿ—ป Sometimes technology fails but I made my meeting and work gets done. I really hope they keep the remote hybrid model at work, however their is a lot of resistance to that.

As previously noted, there are 2 weeks until Average High is 80 ๐Ÿ– when the sun will be setting at 8:42 pm with dusk at 9:18 pm. On that day in 2020, we had hot, partly cloudy and temperatures between 88 and 70 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 80 degrees. We hit a record high of 94 back in 1995.

That weekend in two weeks is going to be the Juneteenth weekend โ›บ which I am thinking would be perfect for some quiet time with no cell service ๐Ÿ”• and no internet at Piseco-Powley Road. As much as I like being connected to the world its nice to be off the grid spending a lot of day at the Potholers or maybe better yet that campsite at the House Pond Campsite with the swimming ๐ŸŠ๐Ÿปโ€โ™‚๏ธ hole nearby if I can get it. Come July, definitely want to check out the renovated Mine Kill Pool and Burnt Rossman Hills Forest and then of course summer vacation in the Finger Lakes. ๐Ÿž

May 29, 2021 Morning

Good morning! An absolutely beautiful Memorial Day Weekend ! Best since 2013 if you like cold and rainy days. Three weeks to Average High is 80 ๐Ÿ– . Rain and 44 degrees in Delmar, NY. ๐Ÿ’ฆ There is a north breeze at 8 mph. ๐Ÿƒ. The skies will clear Monday around 9 pm.

Today will be periods of rain, mainly before 1pm, then a chance of showers after 2pm. ๐ŸŒง High of 53 degrees at 5pm. 22 degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical day around April 4th. Maximum dew point of 42 at 10am. ๐Ÿ–๏ธ North wind 8 to 10 mph. Chance of precipitation is 100%. New precipitation amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch possible. A year ago, we had partly cloudy skies in the morning with some clearing in the afternoon. It was sticky. The high last year was 89 degrees. The record high of 93 was set in 1931.

This afternoon I’m heading into the city to keep working on drying out Mr. Wolcott’s files ๐Ÿ“‚. It seems like we saved most of the important ones although many of the lost ones were ones I hadn’t ever seen before. It’s so important to store files electronically these days and have off site backups of anything important as anything that is physical and important to you is disposable and prone to lost. Outside of memories the best way to preserve things is electronically these days with storage so cheap. ๐Ÿ’พ So much is lost in disasters and even just on disorganized papers.

Solar noon ๐ŸŒž is at 12:54 pm with sun having an altitude of 69.1ยฐ from the due south horizon (-1.8ยฐ vs. 6/21). A six foot person will cast a 2.3 foot shadow today compared to 2.2 feet on the first day of summer. The golden hour ๐Ÿ… starts at 7:43 pm with the sun in the west-northwest (294ยฐ). ๐Ÿ“ธ The sunset is in the west-northwest (301ยฐ) with the sun dropping below the horizon at 8:25 pm after setting for 3 minutes and 22 seconds with dusk around 8:58 pm, which is 51 seconds later than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ‡ The best time to look at the stars is after 9:42 pm. At sunset, look for mostly cloudy skies โ˜ and temperatures around 51 degrees. There will be a northeast breeze at 7 mph. Today will have 15 hours and 2 minutes of daytime, an increase of one minute and 26 seconds over yesterday.

Tonight will have a slight chance of showers between 1am and 2am, then a slight chance of rain after 2am. Mostly cloudy ๐ŸŒง, with a low of 44 degrees at 6am. Nine degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical night around May 4th. North wind 3 to 7 mph. Chance of precipitation is 20%. In 2020, we had thunderstorm in the evening, which became mostly clear by the early hours of the morning. It was somewhat humid. It got down to 58 degrees. The record low of 33 occurred back in 1967.

I am thinking as soon as Friday morning next week before work โ›บ to get up to the Adirondacks and remote work ๐Ÿ’ป Friday and Monday up there. Maybe Piseco-Powley Road but no cell service there so that won’t work for remote working.

As previously noted, next Saturday is 8:30 PM Sunset ๏ธโ›ฑ๏ธ when the sun will be setting at 8:29 pm with dusk at 9:03 pm. On that day in 2020, we had humid, partly sunny, warm, thunderstorm and temperatures between 85 and 71 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 77 degrees. We hit a record high of 97 back in 1925.

May 17, 2021 Morning

Good morning! Happy Pack Rat Day ๐Ÿ€! It’s hard to argue with Texas ranchers with their burn pits. Pile it up and light a match. ๐Ÿ”ฅ Backfill the dead pit hole with dirt. ๐Ÿšœ Kind of like they do in the city without the fancy liners and shit. Remember Texas is nearly six times the size of New York, you can get away with shit out there unthinkable back east. Two weeks to Memorial Day ๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ . That officially is the kick off to summer. I think I will stay out of the Adirondacks that weekend because I don’t like crowds or black flies. I had my fill this weekend. Mostly sunny and 50 degrees at the Mason Lake. ๐Ÿ˜Ž Calm wind. But so far that black flies ๐Ÿœ haven’t awoken but they are coming. ๐Ÿ™„

Yesterday, I hiked Watch Hill (again) ๐Ÿƒ then walked around Lewey Lake Campground ๐Ÿฆ studying the birds, and taking some pictures of scenery. ๐Ÿ–ผ Still not sure what the hiking trails listed on the signs are from Lewey Lake are — I have some on my map, but I couldn’t find them. But I tell you they pack those campsites in. I drove down to Mason Lake, and while I didn’t get a campsite right on the lake like I had hoped, ๐Ÿ• I did find a campsite that I didn’t visit at all last year, and it was nice smaller site. The smaller sites are easier to light. The black flies were super bad all around Perkins Clearing, ๐Ÿœ but once I had the screen tent set up and I could hide out in there to dusk, it was bearable. ๐Ÿ“— Did some reading and scrolling through the phone for a while ๐Ÿ“ฑ before doing a brief walk down to Mason Lake, which was about 3/4 mile down from the road where I camped. Virtually nobody up at Watch Hill, I passed a small group hiking up the mountain but after that I didn’t see a single other person. ๐Ÿ—ป I didn’t dilly dally too much on Watch Hill as I heard some thunder and it looked like rain to south ๐ŸŒฉ but it tuned out to be nothing more then a handful of rain dops.

Taking down camp โ›บ and getting ready to head to Spectulator. I have a busy day ahead so I want to be there by nine ๐Ÿ•˜. I also want things taken down before the black flies are out in force. Made some eggs ๐Ÿฅš and laying back in the hammock for a few minutes before I start on south. A pretty nice day, alas a work day so I’ll probably be spending most of the day at the Lake Pleasant Wi-Fi, but at least I won’t have to worry about having enough energy to keep everything charged. ๐Ÿ˜Ž But alas, this evening after work I’m heading back home. I am running a bit low on supplies, and I want to work from home tomorrow so I can get ready for working in office come Wednesday. ๐Ÿ‘จ‍๐Ÿ’ผ Pretty drive though down to Spectulator this morning.

Today will have a slight chance of showers after 1pm. Mostly sunny ๐ŸŒž, with a high of 69 degrees at 1pm. Three degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical day around May 9th. But then again, we are comparing Speculator weather to Albany climate normals, and that’s not a perfect mix as it’s colder in mountains. Calm wind becoming southwest around 5 mph in the afternoon. Chance of precipitation is 20%. A year ago, we had partly cloudy skies. The high last year was 74 degrees. The record high of 92 was set in 2017.

The agenda today is pretty much work, ๐Ÿ’ป although I hope at lunch time to have an hour to go for a walk along the Sacandaga River and maybe sit down by Lake Pleasant. At 5 PM or so I’ll head home and get unpacked. Maybe a make a few stops along away to toss in a fishing line. ๐ŸŽฃ J do like fishing below the dam in Wells, although with the warm weather they probably will have ramped the hydro dam up and the trout are probably hiding in deep due to the heat.

Solar noon ๐ŸŒž is at 12:55 pm with sun having an altitude of 65.8° from the due south horizon (-4° vs. 6/21). A six foot person will cast a 2.7 foot shadow today compared to 2.2 feet on the first day of summer. The golden hour ๐Ÿ… starts at 7:37 pm with the sun in the west-northwest (291°). ๐Ÿ“ธ The sunset is in the west-northwest (298°) with the sun dropping below the horizon at 8:19 pm after setting for 3 minutes and 20 seconds with dusk around 8:51 pm, which is one minute and 3 seconds later than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ‡ At dusk you’ll see the First Quarter ๐ŸŒ“ Moon in the west-southwest (254°) at an altitude of 49° from the horizon, 241,453 miles away. ๐Ÿš€ The best time to look at the stars is after 9:34 pm. At sunset, look for partly clear skies ๐ŸŒ„ and temperatures around 60 degrees. There will be a calm wind. Today will have 14 hours and 48 minutes of daytime, an increase of 2 minutes and 3 seconds over yesterday.

Tonight will be partly cloudy ๐ŸŒƒ , with a low of 47 degrees at 3am. Two degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical night around May 13th. Calm wind. In 2020, we had cloudy skies. It got down to 54 degrees. The record low of 29 occurred back in 1981.

This weekend will give us a hint of summer. ๐Ÿ– But not really muggy. Saturday, a chance of showers. Partly sunny, with a high near 77. Chance of precipitation is 40%. Maximum dew point of 57 at 8am. Sunday, a chance of showers. Mostly sunny, with a high near 78. Chance of precipitation is 30%. Maximum dew point of 56 at 8am. Typical average high for the weekend is 73 degrees. I’m considering Madison County, where there won’t be black flies, but two weekend in a row traveling can be a bit tired. I am not sure.

As previously noted, there are 2 weeks until Memorial Day ๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ when the sun will be setting at 8:31 pm with dusk at 9:06 pm. ๐ŸŒบ Aren’t you looking forward to the unofficial kick-off for summer, although we get will get a taste of that this week. On that day in 2020, we had partly sunny and temperatures between 65 and 46 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 75 degrees. We hit a record high of 92 back in 2013.

Purple on Red

May 15, 2021 Morning

Good morning! Happy Saturday. It’s the weekend! No work today for me. โ˜บ Five weeks to Average High is 80 ๐Ÿ– . Mostly sunny and 50 degrees in Speculator, NY. There is a west breeze at 6 mph. ๐Ÿƒ.

I checked and it looks like Mason Lake Road is open ๐Ÿ‘Œ๐Ÿป but after checking the ice and thinking about it some more I decided to camp one more day off NY 8B and then head up on Sunday when more camping options are open. ๐Ÿšถ๐Ÿป I’m thinking I’ll hike Watch Hill on Sunday and today I want to do some birding ๐Ÿฆ on Upper Robb Creek Road based on a friend’s recommendation.

Today will be mostly sunny ๐ŸŒž, with a high of 68 degrees at 4pm. Three degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical day around May 6th. West wind 6 to 9 mph. A year ago, we had partly cloudy skies in the morning with some clearing in the afternoon. The high last year was 84 degrees. The record high of 93 was set in 1900.

Should be a real nice day, but I’m hoping for a breeze ๐Ÿƒ to keep the black flies in check. ๐Ÿœ Yesterday wasn’t so bad as there was a a steady breeze for most of the day. Of course I wasn’t happy that the wind blew the tent away ๐ŸŽช, sending no only the tent 100 ft up and away but also smashing my new lantern ๐Ÿฎ and ripping out all the tent stakes. Fortunately the screen tent wasn’t damaged. It happened so quickly while I was working on my laptop ๐Ÿ–ฅ doing work from the hammock. We got this pop up rain shower โ˜” and it wasn’t a big deal except for a crazy strong gust after the storm ended. I have the plugged lantern which I will part out for repairs when I get home. ๐Ÿก

Solar noon ๐ŸŒž is at 12:55 pm with sun having an altitude of 65.4ยฐ from the due south horizon (-4.5ยฐ vs. 6/21). A six foot person will cast a 2.7 foot shadow today compared to 2.2 feet on the first day of summer. The golden hour ๐Ÿ… starts at 7:35 pm with the sun in the west-northwest (291ยฐ). ๐Ÿ“ธ The sunset is in the west-northwest (298ยฐ) with the sun dropping below the horizon at 8:16 pm after setting for 3 minutes and 19 seconds with dusk around 8:48 pm, which is one minute and 5 seconds later than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ‡ At dusk you’ll see the Waxing Crescent ๐ŸŒ’ Moon in the west (276ยฐ) at an altitude of 33ยฐ from the horizon, 246,877 miles away. ๐Ÿš€ The best time to look at the stars is after 9:31 pm. At sunset, look for partly clear skies ๐ŸŒ„ and temperatures around 59 degrees. There will be a west breeze at 6 mph. Today will have 14 hours and 43 minutes of daytime, an increase of 2 minutes and 9 seconds over yesterday.

Tonight will be partly cloudy ๐ŸŒƒ, with a low of 39 degrees at 5am. Nine degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical night around April 21st. West wind 3 to 6 mph. In 2020, we had rain in the evening, which became cloudy by the early hours of the morning. It was somewhat humid. It got down to 55 degrees. The record low of 33 occurred back in 1980.

Looking ahead, there are 3 weeks until 8:30 PM Sunset ๏ธโ›ฑ๏ธ when the sun will be setting at 8:34 pm in Spectulator with dusk at 9:09 pm. On that day in 2020, we had hot and humid weather with a thunderstorm and temperatures between 85 and 71 degrees. Sticky night but what do I know I was working remote from the Adirondacks. Typically, the high temperature is 77 degrees. We hit a record high of 97 back in 1925.

May 13, 2021 Morning

Good morning! Happy Thursday. Six weeks to Strawberry Moon ๐Ÿ“๐Ÿ“๐Ÿ“๐ŸŒ• . Those wild strawberries, the Juneberries are good. As are the ones from the farm markets in the Schoharie Valley. Mostly sunny and 55 degrees in Speculator, NY. There is a north-northwest breeze at 7 mph. ๐Ÿƒ. An early start, although not so early that I did hit some traffic around Schenectady and Amsterdam, but I made it up to Wells by 9 AM to check into work, and then Spectulator by mid-morning to work on the Wi-Fi up here. ๐Ÿ“ถ I was supposed to leave by 7 AM, but somehow at the end, things got slowed up and I didn’t get on the road until closer to 7:20 which meant more cars and school buses ๐ŸŽ’ to deal with.

This is the last Thursday I’ll be doing remote work, so I figure I should maximize it while I can. ๐Ÿ‘จ‍๐Ÿ’ป Next week starts 50% staff plus ramping up close to full-time in office come summer, although people still want some flexibility, and not sure if it always makes sense to do in-person when there isn’t meetings or trainings. Remote work is fun, especially when your out of town, but it’s still work — meaning I’m still fielding calls, writing emails and working on the laptop. But I do look forward to seeing my co-workers more in the office, and the benefits of face-to-face contact ๐Ÿ‘ฉ‍๐Ÿ’ผ ๐Ÿ‘จ‍๐Ÿ’ผ that is rather lost off the Internet. ๐Ÿ˜ท It seems like masks will be the normal for a while on the bus and around the water cooler, but I really do kind of look forward things getting back closer to normal.

I am going to probably stay up north until Monday after work, ๐Ÿ˜Ž but a lot depends on the weather and how I feel. I want to do some hiking and fishing on Saturday and Sunday. ๐ŸŽฃ I am hoping to also participate in the video call ๐Ÿ“น we are doing with John Wolcott and Don Rittner about the Pine Bush ๐ŸŒฒ on Friday night but that depends if I have cell services or not where I am camping. ๐Ÿ“ฑ A lot depends on whrere I ended up.

Today will be mostly sunny ๐ŸŒž, with a high of 65 degrees at 4pm. Six degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical day around April 28th. North wind around 8 mph. Probably back in Albany, it will be closer to normal. A year ago, we had partly cloudy skies in the morning with some clearing in the afternoon. The high last year was 59 degrees. The record high of 86 was set in 2004. There was a dusting of snow in 1953.โ„

Solar noon ๐ŸŒž is at 12:55 pm with sun having an altitude of 65° from the due south horizon (-5° vs. 6/21). A six foot person will cast a 2.8 foot shadow today compared to 2.2 feet on the first day of summer. The golden hour ๐Ÿ… starts at 7:33 pm with the sun in the west-northwest (290°). ๐Ÿ“ธ The sunset is in the west-northwest (297°) with the sun dropping below the horizon at 8:14 pm after setting for 3 minutes and 17 seconds with dusk around 8:46 pm, which is one minute and 6 seconds later than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ‡ At dusk you’ll see the Waxing Crescent ๐ŸŒ’ Moon in the west-northwest (289°) at an altitude of 15° from the horizon, 250,745 miles away. ๐Ÿš€ The best time to look at the stars is after 9:28 pm. At sunset, look for clear skies ๐ŸŒ„ and temperatures around 57 degrees. There will be a northwest breeze at 5 mph. Today will have 14 hours and 39 minutes of daytime, an increase of 2 minutes and 13 seconds over yesterday.

Tonight will be mostly clear ๐ŸŒƒ, with a low of 39 degrees at 5am. Nine degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical night around April 21st. Northwest wind 5 to 7 mph. I brought the heater as I might need it by morning to warm my hands. At least no ice or snow. In 2020, we had mostly clear skies. It got down to 33 degrees. The record low of 30 occurred back in 1996.

A picture perfect weekend on tap. ๐Ÿ˜Ž Saturday, isolated showers after 2pm. Mostly sunny, with a high near 67. West wind 3 to 7 mph. Chance of precipitation is 20%. Maximum dew point of 38 at 8am. Sunday, a chance of showers after 2pm. Mostly sunny, with a high near 66. Chance of precipitation is 30%. Maximum dew point of 43 at 8pm. Typical average high for the weekend is 71 degrees.

It should be nice up north, about what you would expect for this time of year. ๐Ÿ˜Ž Not too warm, fairly typical. Maybe some thunderstorms, but that’s expected this time of year. I want to do some hiking and laying back in the hammock, although I admit I’ll probably be a prisoner to the screen tent ๐ŸŽช more then I want to admit when the black flies are biting around. ๐Ÿœ I am thinking hiking back to Bennett Lake or maybe Wilcox Lake or somewhere along the East Branch. Or if Mason Lake is open, maybe up that way.

One month ๐Ÿ“… from now will be Fathers Day ๐Ÿ‘จ when the sun will be setting at 8:39 pm with dusk at 9:15 pm. The average high temperature is 71 degrees, with a record high of 86 in 2004.

 Mother Goose

May 1, 2021 Morning

Good morning! Happy May Day 2021 ๐Ÿ•Š ! All the socialists of the world will rejoice. ๐ŸŒน As will black flies. ๐Ÿœ Is there much of a difference? I’m getting brainwashed from work. Five weeks to 8:30 PM Sunset ๏ธโ›ฑ๏ธ . Summer is coming. Or so we tell ourselves, and our nation is plunged towards summer every day. Can’t stop the rotation of earth around the sun. Overcast and 39 degrees in Delmar, NY. โ˜ Breezy, ๏ธ16 mph breeze from the northwest ๐ŸŒฌ with gusts up to 29 mph ๐Ÿ’จ๐Ÿ’จ๐Ÿ’จ. The skies will clear around 9 am.

Today will be mostly cloudy, then gradually becoming sunny โ˜, with a high of 58 degrees at 4pm.  Based on the appearance of the Olana Sky Cam, already clearing in Catskill. Seven degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical day around April 15th. Northwest wind 11 to 16 mph, with gusts as high as 29 mph. A year ago, we had partly cloudy skies in the morning with some clearing in the afternoon. The high last year was 61 degrees. The record high of 86 was set in 2001. There was a dusting of snow in 1978.โ„

Not sure what my plans are for the day, but I do want to shower ๐Ÿ›€ and then go out somewhere. ๐Ÿšถ‍โ™€๏ธ I am really running low on supplies so I should think about going shopping. ๐Ÿ‘œ Now I just need to remember to bring my muzzle ๐Ÿ˜ท should I want to run into the store, as I’m not always wearing a bandana when I’m outside, because I am fully vaccinated. ๐Ÿ’‰ Didn’t have a mask when I went for my evening walk, which is why I am drinking black coffee โ˜• this morning as I’m out of milk. ๐Ÿฎ

Solar noon ๐ŸŒž is at 12:53 pm with sun having an altitude of 62.6° from the due south horizon (-8.3° vs. 6/21). A six foot person will cast a 3.1 foot shadow today compared to 2.2 feet on the first day of summer. The golden hour ๐Ÿ… starts at 7:17 pm with the sun in the west-northwest (285°). ๐Ÿ“ธ

The sunset is in the west-northwest (292°) with the sun dropping below the horizon at 7:56 pm after setting for 3 minutes and 6 seconds with dusk around 8:26 pm, which is one minute and 7 seconds later than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ‡ The best time to look at the stars is after 9:05 pm. At sunset, look for partly cloudy skies ๐ŸŒƒ and temperatures around 54 degrees. There will be a west breeze at 6 mph. Today will have 14 hours and 6 minutes of daytime, an increase of 2 minutes and 29 seconds over yesterday.

Tonight will have a slight chance of showers before 3am. Mostly cloudy ๐ŸŒง, with a low of 45 degrees at 4am. Two degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical night around May 8th. West wind around 6 mph becoming south in the evening. Chance of precipitation is 20%. In 2020, we had mostly clear skies. It got down to 43 degrees. The record low of 29 occurred back in 1974.

One month ๐Ÿ“… from now will be June ๐Ÿน when the sun will be setting at 8:26 pm with dusk at 9:00 pm. The average high temperature is 74 degrees, with a record high of 91 in 1917. A few years ago, but then again we can certainly have 90 degree days in May. I remember a few years back when we had a real baking Memorial Day Weekend and I was up in the Green Mountain Forest, shooting guns, drinking beer and lighting off fireworks. ๐ŸŽ† Fun times.
