Up after the teat strippers, lol ๐Ÿ„

Every morning I get the Morning Ag Clips newsletter delivered to my email box a little after 3 am. Who is up at that hour? Dairymen, nearly two hours before I wake up and get cooking and a jump on my day. After all, you gotta strip the teats before you milk the laddies so I can have cottage cheese with my eggs and milk in my coffee.

Good morning! What day is it? Hump Day, of course. Rain and 43 degrees in Delmar, NY. โ˜” There is a west-southwest breeze at 8 mph. ๐Ÿƒ. There are 3 inches of snow on the ground. โ˜ƒ ๏ธStill too much snow to ride the bike into work on the rail trail, but regardless it’s still raining. Temperatures will drop below freezing at tomorrow around 2 am. โ˜ƒ๏ธ

I slept in late until 5:10 AM this morning, which really is about ten minutes later but I don’t set an alarm clock โฐ  so I get up when I wake naturally. I was in bed by 9 PM last night ๐Ÿ›Œ so eight hours later is about 5 AM though I woke briefly at 3 AM when I heard the Morning Ag Clips come in but I didn’t read until I was up and out of bed, loading the oven with bread and taking the seeds out of the spaghetti squash, getting it ready to cook. A good nights sleep, despite the warnings of high wind and severe weather, all I heard was a bit of rain on the roof.

Woke up feeling a bit achy this morning from the rain, ๐Ÿ˜ซ but I got some onions, spinach, corn, peppers eggs frying ๐Ÿณ with a bunch of turmeric, red chili pepper, and salt. Then coffee with lots of ginger and cinnamon. โ˜• Feeling good now. Baked up some rye bread, with lots of dill weed and chopped red onions. I find for a good crispy crust, adding some baking soda helps. The red onions give it a dark, rich texture, almost like pumpernickel. Also cooked up a big pot of 15-bean Cajun soup, but then I added a bunch of corn, celery, carrots and spinach to beef up the soup. Will be good with the rye bread later. To keep the oven full, also made spaghetti squash. Using up a lot of stuff in my pantry but I’ll go shopping either Thursday or Friday night, or maybe early Saturday morning.

Today will have a chance of showers, mainly between 11am and 3pm. Mostly cloudy ๐ŸŒฆ, with a high of 44 degrees at 12pm. 11 degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical day around March 12th. I like mid March weather in January. Breezy, with a southwest wind 7 to 12 mph increasing to 16 to 21 mph in the afternoon. Winds could gust as high as 41 mph. Chance of precipitation is 40%. A year ago, we had partly cloudy skies in the morning with some clearing in the afternoon. The high last year was 38 degrees. The record high of 55 was set in 2016. 7.3 inches of snow fell back in 1984.โ„

I wasn’t going to ride my bike to work, ๐Ÿšฒ until I decided to do just that. I will take Delaware Avenue in I guess, because I think there is still snow and ice on the rail trail โ„๏ธ though I’d much rather take the rail trail and avoid traffic. ๐Ÿš‚ When I switch to the office in North Albany — maybe next week — if the rail trail is closed, I will take Second Avenue. I think there is less traffic there, and less risk of getting doored, ๐Ÿ’ฅwhich scares me as much if not more then getting rear-ended on the bicycle. Riding on Delaware Avenue, it’s constant looking ahead and looking backwards, compared to the relatively easy to ride down the rail trail. ๐Ÿšต‍โ™€๏ธ Once I’m fully moved the suburban office, I will be able to take Albany County Rail Trail to Corning Preserve, almost entirely off the road, then it will be an easy ride up Erie Bouelvard, through the old Lumber District.

Solar noon ๐ŸŒž is at 12:03 pm with sun having an altitude of 25.4° from the due south horizon (-45.5° vs. 6/21). A six foot person will cast a 12.7 foot shadow today compared to 2.2 feet on the first day of summer. The golden hour ๐Ÿ… starts at 3:57 pm with the sun in the southwest (233°). ๐Ÿ“ธ The sunset is in the west-southwest (240°) with the sun dropping below the horizon at 4:41 pm after setting for 3 minutes and 21 seconds with dusk around 5:12 pm, which is one minute and 4 seconds later than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ‡ The best time to look at the stars is after 5:48 pm. At sunset, look for rain showers around ๐ŸŒง and temperatures around 40 degrees. Breezy, 21 mph breeze โ›… from the west-southwest with gusts up to 41mph. Today will have 9 hours and 19 minutes of daytime, an increase of one minute and 19 seconds over yesterday.

I was pleasantly surprised that the blueberry pancakes I made yesterday ๐Ÿฅž didn’t cause me to have a blood sugar spike that I was afraid it would. Maybe it was because the pancakes were whole-wheat flour and some milled oats and made myself without added sugar or even bananas. Maybe using pure maple syrup ๐Ÿ in moderation helped. I do love the sweetness of blueberries ๐Ÿ’™ but it can come with an hour or two down the clock feeling really hungry and even a bit dizzy. But I was reading that such blood sugar troughs aren’t that uncommon for many people, and isn’t a sign of anything more serious besides bad dietary choices. I was looking at my online health record, and two times I got my blood and urine tested, my blood sugar levels were in normal levels and I didn’t have any glucose in my urine. ๐Ÿฅค I did have slightly elevated bile in my urine, a sign of some kidney damage probably back when I was more overweight, but I was barely outside of normal level, ๐Ÿ‘ฉ‍โš•๏ธ nothing my doctor said I should be concerned about. I am super paranoid about diabetes these days, as I watch and it slowly saps the life away from my parents who are growing older. And I don’t like needles. ๐Ÿ’‰

Tonight will be mostly cloudy โ˜๏ธ, with a low of 29 degrees at 4am. 13 degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical night around March 24th. Breezy, with a southwest wind 14 to 20 mph, with gusts as high as 38 mph. With that wind, I’ll probably need the heat again. โ™จ๏ธ  In 2023, we had mostly clear skies in the evening, which became mostly clear by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 19 degrees. The record low of -25 occurred back in 1968.

Last night was cold with the wind so I turned on both the gas heat down stairs and the space heater on as I was chilled through. ๐ŸŒง ๐ŸŒฌ It was absolutely pouring when I was waiting out for the bus, and when I got home things were cold and damp. Cooking in the oven the salmon ๐ŸŸ things warmed up, and then I kneaded up the bread ๐Ÿž. Also made some corn mush mixed with peanut butter powder which was pretty good. And then shredded and orange and had that with a warm glass of milk with cinnamon and ginger before bed. Eating good. Wish I had gotten more steps in yesterday, but I did do that seven mile ride in during the morning.

Still looks like the weekend starts out rainy, but then gets cold for the balance of the M.L. King weekend. ๐ŸŒฆ Saturday, rain, mainly before 1pm. High near 48. Breezy. Chance of precipitation is 80%. Sunday, partly sunny, with a high near 31. Breezy. M.L.King Day will be mostly cloudy, with a high near 31. Typical average high for the weekend is 33 degrees. I am not sure if it looks good for getting out of town, thinking it will be a swamp on Saturday and then frigid come Sunday. Maybe just one night. Things could change though.

One month ๐Ÿ“… from now will be Clean Your Computer Day ๐Ÿงน when the sun will be setting at 5:21 pm with dusk at 5:49 pm. The average high temperature is 33 degrees, with a record high of 55 in 2016. Now that’s depressing on the mercury front, but let’s be honest, not much beyond there, things start to warm up once again as we head into the second half of February. ๐ŸŒบ Spring will come eventually.

Setting Sun

It was dark out that 6:45 am bike ride ๐Ÿšฒ

As it’s a session day and I have to dress up for work, I couldn’t ride into work and decided rather than go for a walk I’d go for a ride before showering. But it was still quite dark and I needed the lights on my bike when I started out.

Good morning! First session day of the year. All my dress shirts and pants are much too big. With the sun now up, it’s cloudy and 33 degrees in Delmar. โ˜๏ธ Calm wind. Temperatures will drop below freezing at tomorrow around 1 am. โ˜ƒ๏ธ

Figured get an early start on the bike ๐Ÿšด‍โ™€๏ธ as I wasn’t going to bike into work or take the stairs up to my office. Decided to do a seven mile bike ride out to Meads Lane, but even at quarter to seven, with the late winter sunrise and clouds, it was dark, especially once I got beyond the streetlights. That said, the lights on my bike work pretty good, and I should be quite visible to drivers especially with my blaze-orange vest on. ๐Ÿฆบ I am hoping soon there is more daylight though, as I would prefer to ride to walk in the morning, just because you burn calories quicker, plus I find walking rather then biking after breakfast can give me the urge to go ๐Ÿ’ฉ and that rush back home to the toilet ๐Ÿšฝ is never fun, especially if you risk saturating your pants.

I guess my dress clothes don’t fit all that great ๐Ÿ‘” but the way I look at it I’ll keep an eye out for sales on dress shirts and pants, replace one or two pairs of the most worn out clothes, and as time goes on replace others. Like I’ve done with the rest of my non-dress clothes. I finally put the 40 inch jeans away, as they are much too loose, ๐Ÿ“ as I generally wear 34 inches, though I have some 36s I also wear though they’re a bit too big. Likewise, most of the clothes I wear most frequently now are large-tall or extra-large, though I do have some old 2x shirts I’ll wear casually, but they’re quite baggy. I should head back to Salvation Army and see what I can get, especially for more business casual clothes — some of the best stuff I have has come from there, often much higher quality then what I could get at the stores. ๐Ÿ‘จ‍๐Ÿ’ผ

Today will have a chance of flurries before 11am. Mostly cloudy โ›… , with a high of 41 degrees at 2pm. Seven degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical day around March 3rd. Calm wind becoming west 5 to 7 mph. A year ago, we had mist in the morning, which became light rain by afternoon. The high last year was 37 degrees. The record high of 61 was set in 1913. 12.0 inches of snow fell back in 2003.โ„ I remember that snow storm when I was a student as Hudson Valley Community College.

This morning I got baking with two loaves of bread in the oven ๐Ÿฅ– ๐Ÿž — one rye and onion bread, the other whole-wheat oatmeal bread. I had some of the whole-wheat oatmeal bread with my eggs and veggies for breakfast ๐Ÿณ and also cooked up some black beans and spaghetti squash. Not making black beans soup this time, ๐Ÿฒ instead going to have the black beans with lunch and other meals. I thought about making rice and lentils but maybe later in the week. Also pulled out some stew that mom made a few weeks back from the freezer to heat up for dinner tonight. ๐Ÿšถ‍โ™€๏ธ This evening I do want to do a walk.

Solar noon ๐ŸŒž is at 12:00 pm with sun having an altitude of 24.5° from the due south horizon (-46.3° vs. 6/21). A six foot person will cast a 13.2 foot shadow today compared to 2.2 feet on the first day of summer. The golden hour ๐Ÿ… starts at 3:49 pm with the sun in the southwest (231°). ๐Ÿ“ธ The sunset is in the west-southwest (239°) with the sun dropping below the horizon at 4:34 pm after setting for 3 minutes and 23 seconds with dusk around 5:05 pm, which is 54 seconds later than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ‡ The best time to look at the stars is after 5:42 pm. At sunset, look for mostly cloudy skies โ˜ and temperatures around 39 degrees. There will be a calm wind. Today will have 9 hours and 11 minutes of daytime, an increase of 52 seconds over yesterday.

Tonight will have isolated snow showers after 1am. Mostly cloudy ๐ŸŒง, with a low of 29 degrees at 6am. 11 degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical night around March 24th. Light southwest wind. Chance of precipitation is 20%. In 2023, we had light rain in the evening, which became cloudy by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 37 degrees. The record low of -15 occurred back in 1904.

Cloudy with a growing chance of snow come Sunday. ๐ŸŒจ I’m not ready to call a blizzard though for Sunday, I think they’re a bit dramatic on the tele. Saturday, mostly cloudy, with a high near 33. Sunday, snow likely before 1pm, then a chance of rain and snow. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 34. Chance of precipitation is 60%. Typical average high for the weekend is 33 degrees.

Looking ahead, there are 6 weeks until Valentines Day โค๏ธ when the sun will be setting at 5:26 pm with dusk at 5:54 pm. On that day in 2023, we had partly sunny, mild and temperatures between 50 and 30 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 36 degrees. We hit a record high of 63 back in 1946.

Snow Flies

Let’s get r started on the year when we expect to hit 1.5 celcius with the global climate ๐ŸŒก๏ธ

Happy 2024! Going to be a hot one as they say about the coming year. Maybe not in Albany, it’s one city in the world, though it certainly looks like it might be fairly mild January to kick off the year, though not as mild as last year.

Good morning! Mostly cloudy and 32 degrees at the Delmar, NY. โ˜ There is a north breeze at 5 mph. ๐Ÿƒ. Things will start to thaw out at around 1 pm. ๐ŸŒก๏ธ

Up at 5 AM this morning โฐ like usual to get a jump on the morning and cook breakfast. ๐Ÿฅฎ Decided to kick off the year with an oatmeal-apple cake that I baked in the oven with lots of cinanmon and coffee. โ˜• Nice start to the morning. Planning to head out shortly to Five Rivers ๐Ÿฆ to watch the sun rise and look at the birdies. ๐Ÿšด‍โ™€๏ธ Not quite sunrise yet, but I have lights on my bike. Kind of a cool morning, but so be it, that’s to be expected for January. Not going to break any temperature records this morning.

New Year’s Day will be mostly cloudy ๐ŸŒฅ, with a high of 33 degrees at 2pm. One degree below normal, which is similar to January 12th. North wind 3 to 6 mph. A year ago, we had cloudy skies in the morning with more sun in the afternoon. The high last year was 51 degrees. The record high of 57 was set in 1966. 9.2 inches of snow fell back in 1961.โ„

Solar noon ๐ŸŒž is at 11:59 am with sun having an altitude of 24.4° from the due south horizon (-46.5° vs. 6/21). A six foot person will cast a 13.3 foot shadow today compared to 2.2 feet on the first day of summer. The golden hour ๐Ÿ… starts at 3:47 pm with the sun in the southwest (231°). ๐Ÿ“ธ The sunset is in the west-southwest (239°) with the sun dropping below the horizon at 4:33 pm after setting for 3 minutes and 24 seconds with dusk around 5:04 pm, which is 50 seconds later than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ‡ The best time to look at the stars is after 5:40 pm. At sunset, look for mostly cloudy skies โ˜ and temperatures around 33 degrees. There will be a calm wind. Tomorrow will have 9 hours and 10 minutes of daytime, an increase of 48 seconds over today.

Tonight will be partly cloudy ๐ŸŒค, with a low of 22 degrees at 5am. Four degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical night around March 1st. Calm wind becoming northwest around 5 mph. In 2023, we had cloudy skies in the evening, which became mostly clear by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 29 degrees. The record low of -20 occurred back in 1970.

Not a particularly nice weekend on tap. ๐Ÿ˜ž Saturday, mostly cloudy, with a high near 37. Sunday, a chance of snow. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 32. Chance of precipitation is 50%. Typical average high for the weekend is 33 degrees.

As previously noted, next Monday is Bubble Bath Day ๐Ÿงผ when the sun will be setting at 4:40 pm with dusk at 5:10 pm. On that day in 2023, we had mostly sunny and temperatures between 35 and 19 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 33 degrees. We hit a record high of 60 back in 2008.

The Road to the $15 Mininum Wage in New York

Olson Firetower – 100 Foot Tower

Back in the 1963, the Forest Service ran into a problem with their 60-foot Backbone Mountain Firetower, constructed in 1922 by State of West Virginia. The trees had grown too tall around the tower, and it was decided to scrap the 40-year old tower and replace it with a 100 foot Aermotor tower, with the ability to climb to the roof of the tower via a ladder for even better views (!!) Aermotor offered towers up to 175 feet.

The Forest Service bought a 100 foot tower, name Olson Firetower, to put on the mountain, which is still an impressive height as the tallest fire-tower in New York State is only 70 foot (Wakely Mountain). It's a good climb for sure at 30 feet higher then Wakely and is 133 steps to the cabin.

The circa-1963 Olson Tower is named after Ernst B. Olson in recognition of 28 years of fire control and conservation program service to Monongahela National Forest.

Coketon – Railroad Grade

A largely undeveloped gravel bike trail outside of Thomas and Hedricks.

Most of the descend occurs in the 5 1/2 miles from Douglas, roughly 900 feet drop which works out to be an over 3% average grade, with a maximum grade of 3.75%.

It's much steeper then locomotives are engineered to safely climb, which is 2% or less, preferably less then 1.5%. It took at least two locomotives paired together climb, and heavy riding of the brakes down it and at least once in 1910s an out of control train crashed into the gorge below.

While not steep compared to many mountain roads, it's still a fun ride down and a good climb back up. Probably best done on a mountain bike, as the railroad gravel is fairly course on it

My electric use is up nearly 33% since last October โšก

Shocking I know. It’s all the baking and cooking I’ve done lately, that extra kilowatt or two adds up each day. Fortunately the difference is maybe $8-10 at the most, as I was using under 100 kWh a month before I got into cooking and now it’s closer to 150 kWh.

As I don’t have a lot of electronics at home, and go to bed early not using a lot of lights, most of the energy I use is the hot water heater, the refrigerator and the stove/oven. And doing cooking uses all three of those appliances a lot more.

But it’s worth it for the fresh bread, healthy delicious meals, and the good life. Who knows, with inflation these days, I’m probably coming out ahead with less money spent at the grocery store on processed foods, though my grocery bills are way up too. I’m not complaining, eating healthy is an important part of being an adult and living the good life.

Wow that was a long intro to my Wednesday blog post!

Good morning! What day is it? A day and cloudy hump Day, of course. Mostly cloudy and 50 degrees in Delmar, NY. โ˜ Calm wind. Charging the light on my bike now, showering shortly and then off to work. Not a lot sun expected tonight, but will clear out late tonight around 8 pm. Might be good for an evening walk, though I haven’t been doing a lot of walking lately, as I’ve been riding to work, intentionally taking the long way in and home to get in more miles on the bike. ๐Ÿšด‍โ™€๏ธ

This morning I burned up more kilowatt hours ๐Ÿ‘จ‍๐Ÿณ making more homemade bread and butternut squash in the oven, with eggs and coffee up top. โ˜• I had a lot of coffee this morning, and the eggs ๐Ÿฅš ๐Ÿณ were cooked with onions, kidney beans, cilantro, and some frozen veggies. It was a good morning but I had too many cups of coffee to walk though I was fine riding in as I stopped drinking early enough to piss off some of the excess coffee. The doctor says only one cup of coffee in the morning, which some days I ignore as I like more then one while I’m cooking and having breakfast. If I’m not walking, it’s not like I need a pee break.

Today will be mostly cloudy ๐ŸŒฅ, with a high of 61 degrees at 2pm. Typical for today. Maximum dew point of 47 at 12pm. Light and variable wind. A year ago, we had mostly sunny skies in the morning with a few breaks of sun the afternoon. The high last year was 58 degrees. The record high of 84 was set in 2016. There was a dusting of snow in 2015.โ„

I will need my bike headlights both directions on for safety. ๐Ÿ”ฆ Not because it’s super dark out but the skies are gray, and it’s so important to be seen by other motorists on the road. I left my taillights charging over night, so they should be plenty bright for the night to come. ๐Ÿšฒ โš ๏ธ The past few nights I’ve been riding out to Slingerlands at the end of the day, to get in a few more miles of exercise as I haven’t been doing my morning walk as it’s so dark, and I don’t love walking in the dark any more, preferring to retire to bed earlier. ๐Ÿ›Œ

Solar noon ๐ŸŒž is at 12:41 pm with sun having an altitude of 37.8° from the due south horizon (-33° vs. 6/21). A six foot person will cast a 7.7 foot shadow today compared to 2.2 feet on the first day of summer. The golden hour ๐Ÿ… starts at 5:32 pm with the sun in the west-southwest (251°). ๐Ÿ“ธ The sunset is in the west-southwest (258°) with the sun dropping below the horizon at 6:10 pm after setting for 2 minutes and 58 seconds with dusk around 6:37 pm, which is one minute and 34 seconds earlier than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ‡ At dusk you’ll see the Waxing Crescent ๐ŸŒ’ Moon in the southwest (216°) at an altitude of 11° from the horizon, 235,132 miles away. ๐Ÿš€ The best time to look at the stars is after 7:12 pm. At sunset, look for partly cloudy skies ๐ŸŒƒ and temperatures around 58 degrees. The dew point will be 47 degrees. There will be a calm wind. Tomorrow will have 10 hours and 57 minutes of daytime, a decrease of 2 minutes and 45 seconds over today.

Tonight will have patchy fog after 3am. Otherwise, partly cloudy ๐ŸŒฅ, with a low of 43 degrees at 6am. Three degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical night around October 11th. Light south wind. In 2022, we had mostly clear skies in the evening, which became cloudy by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 33 degrees. The record low of 20 occurred back in 1974.

Yesterday, I had a project that I worked on down at the library for a while ๐Ÿ‘จ‍๐Ÿ’ป then I went home and kneaded bread. Dinner was just a quick finishing off of the pea soup, covered with curry and dipping the remaining bread I had a home. ๐Ÿฒ It was a good dinner, after I had a good bike ride home. Tonight I need to think about starting to pack and what food and supplies I’ll need for camping. I told myself today I would run to the store, but I may wait until Friday. Figure I could do the shopping and laundromat at same time, though I kind of want to get more sticky traps for mice ๐Ÿญ and maybe replace that increasingly problematic smoke detector with a modern ten-year one that detects flash over rather then just smoke from cooking.

Weekend still looks wet. Saturday, rain. High near 60. Chance of precipitation is 80%. Sunday, a chance of rain before 8am, then a chance of showers after 8am. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 52. Breezy. Chance of precipitation is 40%. Typical average high for the weekend is 60 degrees.

Not as wet though heading south it seems like it will be a wet day ๐ŸŒง as will be the first day camping and by mid-day Sunday in Cumberland Maryland, it might actually have some nice sun for riding the Chesapeake and Ohio Rail Trail before heading down to West Virginia to set up camp for the night. ๐Ÿšฒ I want to spend a fair amount of time poking around Cumberland, but I also realize that night will sneak up before you know it this time of year. ๐Ÿ• ๐ŸŒ†

Looking ahead, there are 2 weeks until Average High is 55 ๐Ÿ‚ when the sun will be setting at 5:50 pm with dusk at 6:18 pm. On that day in 2022, we had partly sunny, warm, mist and temperatures between 69 and 54 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 55 degrees. We hit a record high of 78 back in 1950.

 Morning At Glacial Lake

15 bean soup kind of day… Good for using up a lot of vegetables in the fridge and counter ๐Ÿฒ

Well folks, I was hoping for a nicer weekend. I am surprised how long the rain is sticking around this morning, maybe it was a good thing I stayed home. That is soup is good, lots of garlic and spices. I know what I’ll be dipping in the fresh homemade whole-wheat bread the rest of today.

Good morning! Where did September go? Got washed away with the rain. I’m glad I’m not camping this morning, though if I headed north or west it probably wouldn’t be too bad. Rain and 55 degrees in Delmar, NY. โ˜” There is a north-northwest breeze at 6 mph. ๐Ÿƒ. The dew point is 54 degrees. Cool and damp, I have my windows closed.

Today will have showers likely, mainly before 11am. Mostly cloudy ๐ŸŒฆ, with a high of 70 degrees at 5pm. Two degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical day around September 27th. Maximum dew point of 59 at 2pm. Northwest wind around 6 mph. Chance of precipitation is 60%. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch possible. A year ago, we had mostly sunny skies. The high last year was 62 degrees. The record high of 88 was set in 1905.

Not a great start to the day, I’m procrastinating on my morning walk ๐Ÿšถ. I was up at 5:30 but it’s a dark morning and now it’s raining out. โ˜” The 15 bean soup is done and absolutely delicious. I have bread I made up earlier in the week and took out of the freezer, it will be good dipped in the soup. Nice smokey flavor from the smoked paprika and a nice under-note from the garlic and onions I chopped up on it. ๐Ÿฒ Banana oatmeal pancakes made extra fluffy with baking soda topped with shredded mango and ginger with maple syrup. Yum ๐Ÿ˜‹.

Solar noon ๐ŸŒž is at 12:46 pm with sun having an altitude of 44.7ยฐ from the due south horizon (-26.2ยฐ vs. 6/21). A six foot person will cast a 6.1 foot shadow today compared to 2.2 feet on the first day of summer. The golden hour ๐Ÿ… starts at 6:03 pm with the sun in the west (261ยฐ). ๐Ÿ“ธ The sunset is in the west (267ยฐ) with the sun dropping below the horizon at 6:41 pm after setting for 2 minutes and 54 seconds with dusk around 7:07 pm, which is one minute and 46 seconds earlier than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ‡ The best time to look at the stars is after 7:42 pm. At sunset, look for partly clear skies ๐ŸŒ„ and temperatures around 67 degrees. The dew point will be 58 degrees. There will be a north-northwest breeze at 5 mph. Today will have 11 hours and 50 minutes of daytime, a decrease of 2 minutes and 52 seconds over yesterday.

Not sure what today’s plans are going to look like. ๐Ÿ  I think it’s best to say it will be a stay home kind of day, but assuming it clears out it probably will involve a bike ride later on out to Voorheesville, Five Rivers or maybe both. I should go down to the library and get some books and work on the Internet too. ๐Ÿ“š I don’t think the rain is going to stop early enough though at this point for the sun to dry things out so I can paint over some of the rust spots on Big Red. ๐Ÿšš

Tonight will have patchy fog after 3am. Otherwise, mostly clear ๐ŸŒƒ, with a low of 53 degrees at 6am. Seven degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical night around September 16th. Maximum dew point of 58 at 6pm. Calm wind becoming northwest around 5 mph. In 2022, we had mostly clear skies in the evening, which became partly cloudy by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 46 degrees. The record low of 28 occurred back in 1993.

Ad revenue has been decent on the blog, ๐Ÿ“บ I’ve been pulling in about $2.25 a day since I figured out the placement that I can live with. So that works out to be around $67 a month, though after hunting season is over I expected revenue to drop as there is less demand for my maps but it will pick up come May, might even top $100 a month as people seek places to camp and hike. โ˜บ Not going to make me rich, indeed the government will take probably a quarter in taxes๐Ÿ›๏ธ but I can look forward to a hundred dollar check every two months or so which will cover hosting and more incentive to create useful good content for the blog. ๐Ÿ’ต And it’s not like I’m selling little trinkets soon destine for the landfill or burn barrel. ๐Ÿ›ข๏ธI’m really pleased with the quality of some of the ads I’m getting from local businesses though some are complete crap.

Looking ahead, there are 5 weeks until Daylight Savings Time Ends ๐Ÿ›ฅ๏ธ when the sun will be setting at 5:46 pm with dusk at 6:14 pm. On that day in 2022, we had sunny, rather warm weather for November and temperatures between 71 and 46 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 54 degrees. But last year didn’t break the record high of 76 back in 1994.

Mount Prospect
