15 bean soup kind of day… Good for using up a lot of vegetables in the fridge and counter ๐Ÿฒ

Well folks, I was hoping for a nicer weekend. I am surprised how long the rain is sticking around this morning, maybe it was a good thing I stayed home. That is soup is good, lots of garlic and spices. I know what I’ll be dipping in the fresh homemade whole-wheat bread the rest of today.

Good morning! Where did September go? Got washed away with the rain. I’m glad I’m not camping this morning, though if I headed north or west it probably wouldn’t be too bad. Rain and 55 degrees in Delmar, NY. โ˜” There is a north-northwest breeze at 6 mph. ๐Ÿƒ. The dew point is 54 degrees. Cool and damp, I have my windows closed.

Today will have showers likely, mainly before 11am. Mostly cloudy ๐ŸŒฆ, with a high of 70 degrees at 5pm. Two degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical day around September 27th. Maximum dew point of 59 at 2pm. Northwest wind around 6 mph. Chance of precipitation is 60%. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch possible. A year ago, we had mostly sunny skies. The high last year was 62 degrees. The record high of 88 was set in 1905.

Not a great start to the day, I’m procrastinating on my morning walk ๐Ÿšถ. I was up at 5:30 but it’s a dark morning and now it’s raining out. โ˜” The 15 bean soup is done and absolutely delicious. I have bread I made up earlier in the week and took out of the freezer, it will be good dipped in the soup. Nice smokey flavor from the smoked paprika and a nice under-note from the garlic and onions I chopped up on it. ๐Ÿฒ Banana oatmeal pancakes made extra fluffy with baking soda topped with shredded mango and ginger with maple syrup. Yum ๐Ÿ˜‹.

Solar noon ๐ŸŒž is at 12:46 pm with sun having an altitude of 44.7ยฐ from the due south horizon (-26.2ยฐ vs. 6/21). A six foot person will cast a 6.1 foot shadow today compared to 2.2 feet on the first day of summer. The golden hour ๐Ÿ… starts at 6:03 pm with the sun in the west (261ยฐ). ๐Ÿ“ธ The sunset is in the west (267ยฐ) with the sun dropping below the horizon at 6:41 pm after setting for 2 minutes and 54 seconds with dusk around 7:07 pm, which is one minute and 46 seconds earlier than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ‡ The best time to look at the stars is after 7:42 pm. At sunset, look for partly clear skies ๐ŸŒ„ and temperatures around 67 degrees. The dew point will be 58 degrees. There will be a north-northwest breeze at 5 mph. Today will have 11 hours and 50 minutes of daytime, a decrease of 2 minutes and 52 seconds over yesterday.

Not sure what today’s plans are going to look like. ๐Ÿ  I think it’s best to say it will be a stay home kind of day, but assuming it clears out it probably will involve a bike ride later on out to Voorheesville, Five Rivers or maybe both. I should go down to the library and get some books and work on the Internet too. ๐Ÿ“š I don’t think the rain is going to stop early enough though at this point for the sun to dry things out so I can paint over some of the rust spots on Big Red. ๐Ÿšš

Tonight will have patchy fog after 3am. Otherwise, mostly clear ๐ŸŒƒ, with a low of 53 degrees at 6am. Seven degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical night around September 16th. Maximum dew point of 58 at 6pm. Calm wind becoming northwest around 5 mph. In 2022, we had mostly clear skies in the evening, which became partly cloudy by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 46 degrees. The record low of 28 occurred back in 1993.

Ad revenue has been decent on the blog, ๐Ÿ“บ I’ve been pulling in about $2.25 a day since I figured out the placement that I can live with. So that works out to be around $67 a month, though after hunting season is over I expected revenue to drop as there is less demand for my maps but it will pick up come May, might even top $100 a month as people seek places to camp and hike. โ˜บ Not going to make me rich, indeed the government will take probably a quarter in taxes๐Ÿ›๏ธ but I can look forward to a hundred dollar check every two months or so which will cover hosting and more incentive to create useful good content for the blog. ๐Ÿ’ต And it’s not like I’m selling little trinkets soon destine for the landfill or burn barrel. ๐Ÿ›ข๏ธI’m really pleased with the quality of some of the ads I’m getting from local businesses though some are complete crap.

Looking ahead, there are 5 weeks until Daylight Savings Time Ends ๐Ÿ›ฅ๏ธ when the sun will be setting at 5:46 pm with dusk at 6:14 pm. On that day in 2022, we had sunny, rather warm weather for November and temperatures between 71 and 46 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 54 degrees. But last year didn’t break the record high of 76 back in 1994.

Mount Prospect

Up and in early this morning โ˜บ

A simple morning this morning – cream of wheat, topped with ground up apples, cinnamon, ginger, chia seeds 0 that quinoa I had in the fridge. The ginger really gives a nice kick to breakfast and it’s supposed to help with inflammation but I mostly just love the taste.

Good morning! Rise and grind. Monday’s come back around again. Rain showers and 55 degrees in Delmar, NY. โ˜” There is a north-northwest breeze at 6 mph. ๐Ÿƒ. The dew point is 53 degrees. The skies will clear around 5 pm.

Like usual I was up early at five 5โƒฃ so I decided to catch the early express bus downtown. ๐Ÿš Maybe the rain would have ended early and I could have ridden home but it hard to say and the rain would have taken off at that nice lubrication I had put on the bike chain yesterday. โš™ Most of the rest of the week will be good for bicycling to work ๐Ÿšฒ plus I need to get to the store and get some garlic cloves ๐Ÿง„ which somehow fell off my grocery list when shopping yesterday. ๐Ÿ›’

Today will have a chance of showers, mainly before 10am. Mostly cloudy ๐ŸŒฆ, with a high of 67 degrees at 3pm. Four degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical day around October 3rd. Maximum dew point of 56 at 2pm. Northwest wind 5 to 8 mph becoming southeast in the afternoon. Chance of precipitation is 40%. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch possible. A year ago, we had mostly sunny skies in the morning, remaining cloudy in the afternoon. The high last year was 66 degrees. The record high of 91 was set in 2017.

Not the nicest day ever, ๐ŸŒง actually a pretty darn dreary day, but I’m going to try to get in 5,000 steps in before work by waking laps and the stairs at the Empire Plaza. I am up early and if I can’t walk outside, I will definitely try to get my steps inside. ๐Ÿ‘ฃ Tomorrow I figure I’ll ride to work, and the same on Wednesday. Thursday before tripping up to the Adirondacks with my parents, I’ll probably do my usual morning walk or maybe if it’s really nice and I’m up early do a quick ride out to Five Rivers ๐Ÿฆ around dawn.

Solar noon ๐ŸŒž is at 12:48 pm with sun having an altitude of 46.6° from the due south horizon (-24.2° vs. 6/21). The golden hour ๐Ÿ… starts at 6:12 pm with the sun in the west (263°). ๐Ÿ“ธ The sunset is in the west (270°) with the sun dropping below the horizon at 6:50 pm after setting for 2 minutes and 54 seconds with dusk around 7:16 pm, which is one minute and 47 seconds earlier than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ‡ At dusk you’ll see the Waxing Gibbous ๐ŸŒ” Moon in the southeast (141°) at an altitude of 17° from the horizon, 226,549 miles away. ๐Ÿš€ The best time to look at the stars is after 7:51 pm. At sunset, look for partly cloudy skies ๐ŸŒƒ and temperatures around 65 degrees. The dew point will be 55 degrees. There will be a south-southeast breeze at 6 mph. Tomorrow will have 12 hours and 2 minutes of daytime, a decrease of 2 minutes and 52 seconds over today.

The new data structure is implemented on the blog ๐Ÿ—บ which cuts page loading time, saves a ton of space, eliminates several thousand lines of custom code, and just makes things a lot more pleasant for me on the maintance side, including making it easier to upload new maps. ๐Ÿคท Why did I not implement this sooner? Well I didn’t think it would save so much space, and I was afraid of transitioning over the old content, with all the files that it would involve. Turned out not to be as bad of a conversion as I thought, and the user experience doesn’t change a bit.

Also turned on Google AdSense, with fairly conservative settings. I don’t love having ads on my blog, but it should help with the ever growing hosting bills. ๐Ÿ’ต It wasn’t that difficult to implement in the code, and I’m not running that many ads, so if you don’t scroll through a lot of pages or scroll down far, you might never see them. I don’t like advertising, but you don’t run ads, there isn’t a chance of getting any money at all. The way I look at it — an investment in the future of the blog, and it doesn’t require a lot of work on my part.

Tonight will have patchy fog after 5am. Otherwise, partly cloudy ๐ŸŒค, with a low of 49 degrees at 5am. Typical for tonight. Southeast wind around 6 mph becoming light and variable. In 2022, we had mostly clear skies in the evening, which became partly cloudy by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 53 degrees. The record low of 29 occurred back in 1947.

Thursday going up to the Adirondacks with the folks ๐Ÿ‚ to do some leaf peeping and enjoying the fall foliage. Probably go up to Speculator and then down back around through Piseco-Powley Road or NY 10. Have a picnic lunch. ๐Ÿฅช It will be a nice day with the family, should be a good sunny day ๐Ÿ˜Ž as I can’t do Thursday and Friday looks to be a bit more cloudy. โ›… That said the weekend currently looks great.

A picture perfect weekend on tap. ๐Ÿ˜Ž Saturday, mostly sunny, with a high near 71. Maximum dew point of 54 at 11am. Sunday, sunny, with a high near 73. Maximum dew point of 55 at 11am. Typical average high for the weekend is 68 degrees. I kind of would rather go camping during the Columbus Day Weekend, but this one looks so good too. Maybe I’ll do Rensselearville State Forest again. ๐ŸŒฒ That way I can get out to the folks house relatively early, as they’re doing lasagana this weekend. Really looking forward to that.

Looking ahead, there are 7 weeks until Average Night Below Freezing ๐ŸŒŒ when the sun will be setting at 4:36 pm with dusk at 5:05 pm (Standard Time). On that day in 2022, we had partly cloudy and temperatures between 49 and 36 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 50 degrees. We hit a record high of 69 back in 1964.

A quick pot of oatmeal, a shower and finishing up packing and I’m off. โ›บ

Samdil Farm, Walmart, Roger’s Orchard, set up camp, swim and ride is the plan for today. Got to maximize it as tomorrow still looks fairly wet.

Good morning! Happy Thursday. Mostly cloudy and 67 degrees in Delmar, NY. โ˜ There is a south breeze at 6 mph. ๐Ÿƒ. The dew point is 65 degrees. The skies will clear around 1 pm.

Quick breakfast ๐Ÿฅฃ of overnight oatmeal which doesn’t require any cooking and blueberries with yogurt and cold coffee โ˜•. Finish packing up now and get on the road early. Looking forward to some good sweet corn ๐ŸŒฝ and peaches ๐Ÿ‘ up at camp and floating on the tube โญ•. Looking forward to getting away from it for a while before a five day work week where I’ll be filling in for the role of the unit director in my office ๐Ÿข.

Today will have a slight chance of showers between 1pm and 2pm, then a slight chance of showers and thunderstorms after 2pm. Patchy fog before 7am. Otherwise, partly sunny ๐ŸŒž, with a high of 80 degrees at 4pm. Two degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical day around August 28th. Maximum dew point of 69 at 11am. South wind 6 to 10 mph. Chance of precipitation is 20%. A year ago, we had mostly sunny skies in the morning, which became thunderstorm by afternoon. It was somewhat humid. The high last year was 78 degrees. The record high of 97 was set in 1913.

I decided against bringing the kayak ๐Ÿ›ถ as between swimming ๐ŸŠ, hiking ๐Ÿšถ and riding Blackie ๐Ÿšต I’ll have plenty to do. I don’t really feel that much like paddling in the Mohawk River and I’ve done the East Canada Creek a million times in the kayak. I’d rather just set up at House Pond Campsite โ›บ and float in the tube โญ• from there.

Solar noon ๐ŸŒž is at 1:00 pm with sun having an altitude of 60.9ยฐ from the due south horizon (-10ยฐ vs. 6/21). Today will have 13 hours and 53 minutes of daytime, a decrease of 2 minutes and 35 seconds over yesterday.

Tonight will have a slight chance of showers and thunderstorms before 8pm, then a slight chance of showers between 8pm and 11pm, then a chance of showers and thunderstorms after 11pm. Mostly cloudy ๐ŸŒง, with a low of 66 degrees at 6am. Five degrees above normal. Maximum dew point of 68 at 6pm. South wind around 9 mph. Chance of precipitation is 40%. Tomorrow showers and thunderstorms likely before 2pm, then a chance of showers. โ˜” Mostly cloudy, with a high near 77. Southeast wind 7 to 14 mph becoming west in the afternoon. Chance of precipitation is 60%. New rainfall amounts between three quarters and one inch possible.

Not gonna to be a real nice day ๐Ÿ“™ but I have several books to read and I’ll have the heater in case I get chilled through. Do some cooking and handing out at camp. ๐Ÿณ Probably can still do some hikes or riding Blackie ๐Ÿšต along Piseco-Powley as it doesn’t look to be a complete soaker of a day.

On this day in 1977, the Soviet icebreaker Arktika becomes the first surface ship to reach the North Pole. ๐Ÿ’ˆAnd in 1982, the first Compact Discs (CDs) are released to the public in Germany. ๐Ÿ’ฟ Seems like such an obsolete technology now with streaming.

Right now, a split verdict on the weekend. ๐Ÿ˜• Saturday, a slight chance of showers before 2pm. Partly sunny, with a high near 70. West wind around 11 mph. Chance of precipitation is 20%. Maximum dew point of 57 at 12pm. Sunday, sunny, with a high near 83. Maximum dew point of 63 at 7pm. Typical average high for the weekend is 82 degrees.

The weekend looks much better โ˜€ but Saturday might be too cold for swimming ๐ŸŠ but excellent weather for riding Piseco-Powley or may be Old Edick Road with Blackie ๐Ÿšต. Could be muddy though on Old Edick. But also I just like laying in the hammock watching the clouds ๐ŸŒฅ float on by.

One month ๐Ÿ“… from now will be Constitution Day ๐Ÿ“œ when the sun will be setting at 7:03 pm with dusk at 7:30 pm. The average high temperature is 34 degrees, with a record high of 61 in 1895.

Rain at Helldiver Pond

55 miles so far with Blackie

Good morning! Clouds after the rain this morning and 75 degrees in Delmar, NY. โ˜ There is a south-southeast breeze at 7 mph. ๐Ÿƒ. The dew point is 73 degrees. The skies will clear tomorrow around 1 am.

Well yesterday wasn’t a wash out but last night especially late it rained quite a bit and will rain more this afternoon. โ˜” I wish I could have gotten out of town this weekend but it was not a great weekend. I did finally break down and get new mountain bike, ๐Ÿšฒ which I call Blackie, though it’s more of a silver color. Like anything it’s both good and bad. I ended up getting a Marlin 5 mountain bike, it’s heavy and slow on the roads but awesome on gravel and dirt packed trails. โ›ฐ I totally get blown past by the road bikes on the rail trail but it will be great on gravel up at camp. Gearing โš™ is a bit low though on asphalt but is great for climbing steep hills slowly.

Finally had those oatmeal banana ๐ŸŒ pancakes ๐Ÿฅž that I love this morning, then rode down to the Corning Preserve for a while in the rain, mostly to test the brakes out in the rain – those hydraulic disc brakes are awesome even in the rainy weather.

Today will have a chance of showers and thunderstorms. Some of the storms could produce heavy rain. Cloudy ๐ŸŒง, with a high of 79 degrees at 5pm. Five degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical day around September 1st. Maximum dew point of 75 at 1pm. South wind 7 to 9 mph. Chance of precipitation is 40%. The record high of 97 was set in 1900.

Every week I try to find a new food to add to my meals. This week edamine – used it last night with spinach and couscous with some tuna fish to add some omega 3 fats to maximize the benefits of eating fat soluble vitamins.๐Ÿฅ—Today I’m cooking brown rice with lentils and edamine (both I would note are soy though edamine is full immature seed like you might find in a farm field). Mostly plan to freeze that for later in the week.

Also cooked red kidney beans which is such a good snack on a hot day with sugar free maple syrup and have soaking black beans to use in cold lunches and dinners usually with chopped red onions, mushrooms and peppers. ๐Ÿฒ Beans are a great source of protein and often are very low in saturated fats. Cold black beans and red onions are the best on a hot day. I cooked and froze a lot of chicken breasts last week, will pull them out of the freezer as needed to add to various dishes.

In 1956, Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey Circus closes its very last “Big Tent” show in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, due to changing economics all subsequent circus shows will be held in arenas. ๐Ÿคนโ€โ™‚๏ธ ๐ŸŽช Now the only thing in tents is fireworks dealers and car dealers when their show rooms are being renovated.

Beach Kites

What can I say, eighteen floors is a lot to walk up to ๐Ÿšถ

Truth is I’m not that scared to ride the sketchy elevators but doing the 18 flights in the morning and lunch time is excellent cardio on top of the 7 ยฝ miles in trying to walk every day. I didn’t even know the stairs were an option but ID badge works with them so I guess I’m an authorized employee to use them.

Good morning! What day is it? Hump Day, of course. Cloudy and 64 degrees in Delmar, NY. โ˜ There is a south-southeast breeze at 6 mph. ๐Ÿƒ. The dew point is 64 degrees. The skies will clear around 4 pm. Or will they? It depends on thunderstorms and wildfire smoke. Currently the AQI is a healthy 22.

I’ve decided to wear my glasses ๐Ÿ‘“ during the morning walk ๐Ÿšถ to give my eyes ๐Ÿ‘€ a break and save time in the morning. Did 8 ยฝ miles yesterday plus the stairs as I went for a walk in the Pine Bush ๐Ÿฆ‹ after the meeting of the Guilderland IDA where they are giving an even bigger tax break to Costco.

Today will have a chance of showers and thunderstorms, mainly after 9am. Some of the storms could produce heavy rainfall. Mostly cloudy ๐ŸŒง, with a high of 76 degrees at 5pm. On this day in 1896, An explosion in the Newton Coal Company’s Twin Shaft Mine in Pittston, Pennsylvania results in a massive cave-in that kills 58 miners. Also in 1969, Stonewall riots begin in New York City, marking the start of the Gay Rights Movement. Lots of explosive things hpapening on this day in history.

Not a particularly nice weekend on tap. ๐Ÿ˜ž Saturday, showers likely, mainly after 2pm. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 82. Chance of precipitation is 60%. Maximum dew point of 67 at 12pm. Typical average high for the weekend is 83 degrees.

I’ve come to the realization that Independence Day Weekend ๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ doesn’t look like a winner so probably best to stay close to home. ๐Ÿก Saves money, avoids the crowds. But maybe the following weekend will be better, it looks like it’s getting hotter and hopefully less rainy come those days. I wouldn’t mind the following week to go up to the Potholers. Maybe this weekend I can commit to buying a bicycle ๐Ÿšฒ, I might end up getting a new one if I get tired of waiting for the perfect ๐Ÿ‘Œ used one to show up. I get paid next week and I expect that I would get a lot of use out of it. Thinking the last week of July for summer vacation in the Finger Lakes National Forest. ๐Ÿ–

Statue

Honest I’m recovering from the Lupine Festival ๐Ÿฆ‹

I really tried to jam as much as possible in my Saturday as possible walking 9.8 miles, tabling for six hours, getting soaked and my camera lens fogged over for a hike off the Madison Avenue and then working about four hours as things have been super busy yesterday with work with the legislative session wrapping up.

Good morning! Happy Sunday. Partly cloudy and 52 degrees in Delmar, NY. โ›… There is a west-northwest breeze at 9 mph. ๐Ÿƒ. The dew point is 47 degrees. The skies will clear around 11 am.

I’m finally out walking ๐Ÿšถ at 8:30 this morning. Heading out to Meads Lane ๐Ÿฎ and ultimately Five Rivers Environmental Education Center ๐Ÿฆ come mid morning. Oatmeal and banana ๐ŸŒ pancakes ๐Ÿฅž topped with blueberries which I’ve been delaying too long as they are so good. Blueberries do kind of spike your blood sugar but it’s fine.

Today will start out cloudy, then gradually becoming sunny โ˜, with a high of 72 degrees at 4pm. One degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical day around May 19th. Maximum dew point of 50 at 1pm. Northwest wind 9 to 14 mph. A year ago, we had mostly sunny skies. It was very sticky. The high last year was 91 degrees. The record high of 92 was set in 1941. There was a dusting of snow in 1895.โ„

I figure the first stop is going to be Van Dyke Preserve ๐Ÿธ then maybe I’ll head over to Five Rivers to poke around there for a while. The home for lunch. ๐Ÿฒ Cooked a lot of cranberry beans up and plan to have them over the coming days with rice, the hot peppers I bought yesterday and other meals. ๐ŸดMaybe over done that jalapeรฑo pepper ๐ŸŒถ๏ธyesterday with the salmon and rice and kale but it was good. ๐Ÿ  Then out to the folks house ๐Ÿก for Sunday dinner. Maybe after which I’ll hike Bennett Hill before heading home and bed. ๐Ÿ›

Today will have 14 hours and 52 minutes of daytime, an increase of one minute and 51 seconds over yesterday.

Three day session this week, ๐Ÿข then two casual dress days at work. Could be another busy working weekend, but now the weekend forecast doesn’t look great. I’m thinking if there is one nice night during the long weekend it would be good to hammock camp โ›บ in the woods and then maybe visit John Wolcott another day. Finally got the spokes in for my bike ๐Ÿšฒ so I’m hopeful if the install goes well I’ll be close to getting it back on the road soon.
