April 27, 2021 Morning

Good morning! Happy Pink Moon ๐ŸŒ• ! It was pretty brilliant last night, although I didn’t stay up too late or under the moonlight because it was too cold with breeze, and because I decided the fire risk was too high to have a fire. Next Tuesday is 8:30 PM Dusk ๐ŸŒ† . Partly cloudy and 42 degrees in Speculator, NY. โ›… There is a west breeze at 7 mph. ๐Ÿƒ. Maybe more sun for a while mid-day but I’m not expecting a real beautiful day for sure.

Today will be partly sunny ๐ŸŒž, with a high of 59 degrees at 5pm. Four degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical day around April 17th. West wind 5 to 7 mph becoming calm. A year ago, we had partly cloudy skies in the morning, which became light rain by afternoon. The high last year was 46 degrees. Kind of like today, although I am sure it is warmer back in Albany. The skies will clear around 11 am.er back in Albany. The record high of 91 was set in 1962. Nothing like that today. There was a dusting of snow in 1946.โ„

Back up a the Spectulator Library, working remotely. ๐Ÿ’ป I have to head home this evening after work, as I have a meeting on Wednesday downtown, and truth be told the next few days are going to be quite rainy. But it’s nice to get away for a few days for sure. I wish we had more sun today, โ˜€๏ธ but I didn’t use the electric lights last night, for quick take down, so my battery bank is in good shape ๐Ÿ”‹ for today. I might work down by the lake after lunch, it depends on how mild it was.

Last night was nice, but a bit chilly. ๐Ÿ’จ While there was a lot of moonlight, the wind was whipping around although by the time I got back from my walk after dark along Old Route 8B, there wasn’t so much of a cold wind whipping around. ๐ŸŒŸ But with the dry grass and the wind, ๐ŸŒฑ I decided the night was best for sitting next to the propane heater, looking at the stars rather then starting a fire. ๐Ÿ”ฅ

Solar noon ๐ŸŒž is at 12:56 pm with sun having an altitude of 60.4° from the due south horizon (-9.5° vs. 6/21). A six foot person will cast a 3.4 foot shadow today compared to 2.2 feet on the first day of summer. The golden hour ๐Ÿ… starts at 7:16 pm with the sun in the west-northwest (284°). ๐Ÿ“ธ The sunset is in the west-northwest (290°) with the sun dropping below the horizon at 7:55 pm after setting for 3 minutes and 8 seconds with dusk around 8:25 pm, which is one minute and 10 seconds later than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ‡ The best time to look at the stars is after 9:04 pm. At sunset, look for rain showers ๐ŸŒง and temperatures around 56 degrees. There will be a calm wind. Today will have 13 hours and 59 minutes of daytime, an increase of 2 minutes and 39 seconds over yesterday.

Tonight will have a chance of showers, with thunderstorms also possible after 2am. Mostly cloudy ๐ŸŒง, with a low of 42 degrees at 5am. Typical for tonight. Light and variable wind. Chance of precipitation is 40%. New rainfall amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms. In 2020, we had light rain in the evening, which became mostly clear by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 39 degrees. The record low of 25 occurred back in 1947.

Cool this weekend with temperatures running 11 degrees below normal but otherwise sunny. ๐Ÿ˜ƒ Saturday, partly sunny, with a high near 50. Sunday, partly sunny, with a high near 59. Typical average high for the weekend is 65 degrees. Actually, that isn’t too bad when you consider you are comparing Spectulator weather to Albany weather. Not sure if I have plans for the weekend — I’ve thought about maybe Madison County, as it’s been a while since I’ve been on the road, although maybe I want a weekend off after this weekend. I’ve really wanted to do some paddling along Nine Mile Swamp ๐Ÿšค and I could certainly work remotely one day up at Cherry Ridge Camping Area.

As previously noted, next Tuesday is 8 PM Sunset ๐ŸŒ‡ when the sun will be setting at 8:03 pm with dusk at 8:34 pm. On that day in 2020, we had partly sunny, rain showers and temperatures between 61 and 45 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 66 degrees. We hit a record high of 91 back in 1944.

Pond Loop Trail

April 26, 2021 10 AM Update

Good morning! Monday’s come back around again. Three weeks to Average High is 70 ๐Ÿฎ. Mostly sunny and 41 degrees in Speculator, NY. Breezy, ๏ธ18 mph breeze from the northwest ๐ŸŒฌ with gusts up to 30 mph ๐Ÿ’จ๐Ÿ’จ๐Ÿ’จ. Kind of a cold start to the day, although warming up fast, but that breeze is nasty to say the least. Started out with a walk along the Spectulator Community Walk, but I was quite happy to return to my truck and get things started working from inside my truck, with the sun keeping me warm and comfortable, out of the wind.

Today will be sunny ๐ŸŒž, with a high of 55 degrees at 4pm. Eight degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical day around April 9th. Breezy, with a northwest wind 18 to 21 mph, with gusts as high as 33 mph. A year ago, we had light rain in the morning, which became light rain by afternoon. The high last year was 57 degrees. The record high of 90 was set in 1990. 0.3 inches of snow fell back in 1993.โ„

Tonight will be mostly clear ๐ŸŒƒ, with a low of 33 degrees at 5am. Eight degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical night around April 5th. Northwest wind 11 to 16 mph decreasing to 5 to 10 mph after midnight. In 2020, we had light rain in the evening, which became partly cloudy by the early hours of the morning. Spring is coming

April 23, 2021 Morning

Good morning! Yeah, it’s Going to Be a Beautiful Friday! Maybe not super warm, but an improvement over yesterday. Two weeks to 8 PM Sunset ๐ŸŒ‡ . Summer is coming. Less then two months now, and we could certainly have some nice warm days come May. Even mid-next week looks quite pleasant. This morning, it’s sunny and 36 degrees in Delmar, NY. There is a west breeze at 8 mph. ๐Ÿƒ. Cold start to the morning, but it will be fairly warm this afternoon bar the breeze. Wearing the hoodie over my shirt for the morning walk. ๐Ÿšถ‍โ™€๏ธ

Yesterday, I went over to John Wolcott’s House ๐Ÿ”Ž and spent several hours going through his Pinksterfest archives, looking for a misplaced long-lost letter about the Fort Orange dig. โœ‰๏ธ Didn’t find it but there was a lot of interesting things about the history of the Pinksterfest ๐ŸŒธ and the Mid-crosstown Arterial in his files. ๐Ÿ“‚ I wanted to go to the Earth Day Rally ๐ŸŒŽ but by the time I got there after work, the rally had already broken up. Part of it was I didn’t catch the bus I wanted to get downtown, ๐ŸšŒ because the bus schedule still has the reduced rush-hour service, and I didn’t check it real careful. The Earth Day rally was supposed to go until 6 PM but I think it ended early with the police protests ๐Ÿš“ in the other part of the city. ๐Ÿ‘Š Truth be told, I am just a lot less interested politics and citizen activism these days. ๐Ÿฆ‹ Save the Pine Bush is my big thing.

Today will be sunny ๐ŸŒž, with a high of 58 degrees at 4pm. Four degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical day around April 15th. Breezy, with a west wind 8 to 13 mph increasing to 15 to 20 mph in the afternoon. Winds could gust as high as 33 mph. A year ago, we had cloudy skies in the morning with more sun in the afternoon. The high last year was 56 degrees. The record high of 87 was set in 2007. 2.4 inches of snow fell back in 1956.โ„

Solar noon ๐ŸŒž is at 12:54 pm with sun having an altitude of 60° from the due south horizon (-10.8° vs. 6/21). A six foot person will cast a 3.5 foot shadow today compared to 2.2 feet on the first day of summer. The golden hour ๐Ÿ… starts at 7:08 pm with the sun in the west-northwest (282°). ๐Ÿ“ธ

Today I am going to get packed for the Adirondacks ๐Ÿ• as my hope is head north tonight for a long weekend, possibly into next week. ๐ŸŒฒ ๐ŸŒฒ๐ŸŒฒ ๐ŸŒฒ I am thinking about working remotely on Monday from the Adirondacks, as long as the weather is nice enough and maybe staying into Tuesday, a bit in a different campsite so to limit my stay to 3 nights in any one location. I have a lot going on today, so it’s going to be busy for packing, and I want to try to get to store mid-day and maybe down to the laundromat when I work, or maybe I have enough clothes if I wait and reuse some jeans — that is if I pick up another pair today. ๐Ÿ‘– Going to be a cold night up north with the wind, but I’ll have my heater โ™จ๏ธ and I can build a small fire for warmth. ๐Ÿ”ฅ still going to be some snow to deal with up north.

Really starting to get a bit low on clothes, ๐Ÿ‘• and as I haven’t bought any in over a year as I’ve not needed as much working from home. ๐Ÿ‘ž My dress shoes are still in the office, sitting drawer they’ve been since the beginning of the pandemic. Going to need a good polish when I go get them, as come May I think I’ll be in office more, although it gets tricky with all the remaining COVID-restrictions. ๐Ÿ‘จ‍๐Ÿ’ผ That and I haven’t been to the laundromat or my parents house in over a week.

The sunset is in the west-northwest (288°) with the sun dropping below the horizon at 7:47 pm after setting for 3 minutes and 3 seconds with dusk around 8:16 pm, which is one minute and 8 seconds later than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ‡ At dusk you’ll see the Waxing Gibbous ๐ŸŒ” Moon in the southeast (131°) at an altitude of 45° from the horizon, 231,553 miles away. ๐Ÿš€ The best time to look at the stars is after 8:53 pm. At sunset, look for clear skies ๐ŸŒ„ and temperatures around 54 degrees. There will be a west breeze at 13 mph. Today will have 13 hours and 45 minutes of daytime, an increase of 2 minutes and 39 seconds over yesterday.

Today my cellphone renews ๐Ÿ“ฒ and I’m hoping that will go well. Still not sure if my new credit card is working ๐Ÿ’ณ, those temporary $1 authorizations that caught my eye last weekend still haven’t dropped off the bill. I should maybe call the credit card company to ensure my card is still active. I am starting to think it was all just a system glitch with the dozen or so $1 authorizations, maybe something went wrong when I went to buy milk ๐Ÿฅ› the other day at the store, and my worry is just that. Pure silliness. But you can’t be too careful these days. Need to make sure that’s straightened out before I go north.

Also, we are doing another recording session with John Wolcott and some of other Save the Pine Bush people for our history project ๐Ÿ“œ tonight, but if I am going north, I am not going to be able to participate. But it is what it is, I’ve wanted to get out of town for some weeks now. ๐Ÿ• It should be a real nice night, but maybe a bit chilly. Maybe a little snow up north. Probably be setting up after dark, but I have flashlights ๐Ÿ”ฆ and lights, as I have my therapy session at 4 PM and I’m sure it will run after 5 PM. ๐Ÿ‘จ‍โš•๏ธ My lantern is working well. ๐Ÿฎ Also I might have to work late, so who knows, but I’d really like to get out of town today.

Tonight will be mostly clear ๐ŸŒƒ, with a low of 41 degrees at 4am. One degree above normal, which is similar to a typical night around April 25th. Southwest wind 5 to 10 mph. In 2020, we had cloudy skies in the evening, which became light rain by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 40 degrees. The record low of 25 occurred back in 1965.

Tomorrow will be mostly sunny ๐ŸŒž, with a high of 68 degrees at 3pm. Six degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical day around May 10th. West wind 8 to 10 mph. Should be a very nice spring day. A year ago, we had cloudy skies in the morning with more sun in the afternoon. The high last year was 54 degrees. The record high of 81 was set in 2001. 1.2 inches of snow fell back in 1967.โ„

I am chewing over my options for hikes on Saturday, but I am still leaning towards Pine Orchard. ๐ŸŒฒ๐ŸŒฒ, although there are a handful of other options. There are a lot of hikes I haven’t done over the years, but one thing to consider is how muddy the trails will be. It might actually be better to just do a road hike to stay out of the mud. I’ll have to think about it, especially if I am planning to spend part of next week up north.

Looking ahead to Sunday, rain likely, mainly before 2pm. ๐ŸŒง Mostly cloudy, with a high near 60. Southeast wind 5 to 9 mph becoming north in the afternoon. Chance of precipitation is 70%. New precipitation amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch possible. Typical average high for the weekend is 62 degrees.

Seems like it will be wet on Sunday, but actually not that bad when you consider total precipitation. โ›ˆ It would be fun to work up north on Monday, maybe sit out by Lake Pleasant listening to some music using either my laptop or phone for work. Might be a bit cool on Monday but I can wear a jacket and sun will feel real nice. Then I might head home on Monday or find somewhere and stay through Tuesday or Wednesday. ๐Ÿ˜Ž Mason Lake isn’t a option though for another month as the road is closed due to mud season and frost coming out of the ground.

As previously noted, there are 2 weeks until 8 PM Sunset ๐ŸŒ‡ when the sun will be setting at 8:02 pm with dusk at 8:33 pm. On that day in 2020, we had partly sunny, rain showers and temperatures between 65 and 43 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 67 degrees. That will be real nice. We hit a record high of 92 back in 1930.

Route 10 Farm

April 22, 2021 Morning

Good morning! Happy Earth Day ๐ŸŒŽ ! The earth, at least in Albany, the center of the earth, is shivering on this Earth Day for sure. After all, haven’t you seen gold star โญ printed on the map of New York imprinted on the bridges along NY 85 in Albany? Albany clearly is the center of the world. Snow flurries, blustery and cold at the freezing point in Delmar, NY. โ„ There is a west-northwest breeze at 11 mph. ๐Ÿƒ. Cold enough that there almost might be some frost in the cold, but only somewhat hard ground. The skies will clear around 4 pm.

It was a cold morning for the walk. ๐Ÿšถ‍โ™€๏ธ Not only are temperatures only a little above the freezing mark ๐ŸŒฌ the wind is really whipping around. But the sun is nice and bright, which is a good thing. โ˜€๏ธ Kind of cold inside, because I’m stubborn as duck ๐Ÿฆ† and I refuse to turn the heat back on for the year. ๐Ÿ˜ด A little drowsy this morning, as I took two sleeping pills last night ๐Ÿ’Š which meant I slept soundly but I still feel drowsy in the morning. But it’s fine I’m working from home.

Today will have a chance of snow showers before 10am, then a chance of rain and snow showers between 10am and noon, then a chance of rain showers after noon. Mostly cloudy ๐ŸŒฆ, with a high of 44 degrees at 4pm. 17 degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical day around March 16th. Breezy, with a west wind 11 to 21 mph, with gusts as high as 37 mph. Chance of precipitation is 30%. Total daytime snow accumulation of less than a half inch possible. A year ago, we had light snow in the morning, which became partly cloudy by afternoon. The high last year was 46 degrees. The record high of 86 was set in 1985. 1 inches of snow fell back in 1928.โ„

Solar noon ๐ŸŒž is at 12:54 pm with sun having an altitude of 59.7° from the due south horizon (-11.1° vs. 6/21). A six foot person will cast a 3.5 foot shadow today compared to 2.2 feet on the first day of summer. The golden hour ๐Ÿ… starts at 7:07 pm with the sun in the west-northwest (281°). ๐Ÿ“ธ The sunset is in the west-northwest (288°) with the sun dropping below the horizon at 7:46 pm after setting for 3 minutes and 2 seconds with dusk around 8:15 pm, which is one minute and 9 seconds later than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ‡ At dusk you’ll see the Waxing Gibbous ๐ŸŒ” Moon in the southeast (142°) at an altitude of 56° from the horizon, 234,116 miles away. ๐Ÿš€ The best time to look at the stars is after 8:52 pm. At sunset, look for partly clear skies ๐ŸŒ„ and temperatures around 39 degrees. There will be a west-northwest breeze at 15 mph with gusts up to 25mph. Today will have 13 hours and 43 minutes of daytime, an increase of 2 minutes and 40 seconds over yesterday.

Tonight will be partly cloudy ๐Ÿ˜ด, with a low of 33 degrees at 3am. Seven degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical night around April 5th. West wind 11 to 14 mph. In 2020, we had mostly clear skies in the evening, which became cloudy by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 28 degrees. The record low of 26 occurred back in 1975.

Weekend looks pretty good, although maybe showers on Sunday morning. ๐ŸŒฆ Saturday, mostly sunny, with a high near 67. West wind 7 to 9 mph. Maximum dew point of 40 at 8pm. Sunday, showers likely, mainly before 2pm. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 57. Chance of precipitation is 70%. Typical average high for the weekend is 62 degrees. Spring is coming, a fact I am sure the black flies are well aware about. ๐Ÿœ

There are 2 months until Average High is 80 ๐Ÿ– when the sun will be setting at 8:36 pm with dusk at 9:11 pm.

Old Stair Case at Fox Lair

April 21, 2021 Morning

Good morning! What day is it? A soon to be very wet Hump Day, of course. ๐Ÿช โ˜” ๐Ÿฅ› But maybe only briefly, looks like a fast moving front out front of snow out west, which will hit warm air and be rain here. I’m sure that dairy camel in Vermont won’t be happy. Five weeks to Flower Moon ๐ŸŒ• . Put a flower in your hair. ๐ŸŒผ Those days of daisies can’t be that far away. Rain and 39 degrees in Delmar, NY. โ˜” There is a north breeze at 5 mph. ๐Ÿƒ. Temperatures will drop below freezing at tomorrow around 1 am. โ˜ƒ๏ธ

Out for the morning walk with a rain coat on, โ˜” because while it looks like the rain has passed everything is wet for now. But I think is more is coming, and while it might be dun for now, it will return. ๐ŸŒง But it at least will be done for the weekend, at least Saturday. ๐Ÿฒ Listening to Puff the Magic Dragon, a song that might have been more appropriate for 420. That said, despite being perfectly legal, I didn’t smell much cannabis smoke yesterday. ๐ŸŒพ I always thought restrictions on marijuana were awful silly and racist, mostly used to go after the colored and poor. A good agricultural crop, even though I’m too cheap to smoke. ๐Ÿšฌ

“A dragon lives forever, but not so little boys
Painted wings and giant’s rings make way for other toys
One gray night it happened, Jackie Paper came no more
And Puff, that mighty dragon, he ceased his fearless roar”
“His head was bent in sorrow, green scales fell like rain
Puff no longer went to play along the cherry lane
Without his lifelong friend, Puff could not be brave
So Puff, that mighty dragon, sadly slipped into his cave”

A bit chilly for the morning walk ๐Ÿšถ๐Ÿป in my t-shirt ๐Ÿ‘• and vest and the air is damp with a taste of cattle and manure on it. ๐Ÿฎ. I’ve spent enough time in the Finger Lakes National Forest to know that taste well. That said when the sun โ˜€ peaks out its pretty nice. Going to miss my morning walks ๐Ÿšถ๐Ÿป when I go back to working downtown. ๐Ÿš But on nice days when I don’t have to dress up for clients ๐Ÿ‘จ๐Ÿปโ€๐Ÿซ I’ll walk down to the express bus stop ๐Ÿš, assuming they restore that service at some point. Then I can do my walks on the Emperor’s Plaza or in the Concourse. ๐Ÿข

This morning will rain, then showers and possibly a thunderstorm after 2pm. Some of the storms could produce gusty winds. ๐ŸŒฆ High of 51 degrees at 1pm. 10 degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical day around March 31st. Maximum dew point of 44 at 12pm. ๐Ÿ–๏ธ Okay, maybe not beach weather. But don’t worry, the muggers are waiting with their dew points in the seventies. North wind 5 to 11 mph becoming south in the afternoon. Chance of precipitation is 80%. New rainfall amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms. A year ago, we had light rain in the morning, which became mostly sunny by afternoon. The high last year was 52 degrees. The record high of 89 was set in 1923. 0.6 inches of snow fell back in 1947.โ„

Solar noon ๐ŸŒž is at 12:55 pm with sun having an altitude of 59.4ยฐ from the due south horizon (-11.5ยฐ vs. 6/21). A six foot person will cast a 3.6 foot shadow today compared to 2.2 feet on the first day of summer. The golden hour ๐Ÿ… starts at 7:06 pm with the sun in the west (281ยฐ). ๐Ÿ“ธ The sunset is in the west-northwest (287ยฐ) with the sun dropping below the horizon at 7:44 pm after setting for 3 minutes and 2 seconds with dusk around 8:14 pm, which is one minute and 8 seconds later than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ‡ At dusk you’ll see the Waxing Gibbous ๐ŸŒ” Moon in the south-southeast (160ยฐ) at an altitude of 64ยฐ from the horizon, 236,948 miles away. ๐Ÿš€ The best time to look at the stars is after 8:50 pm. At sunset, look for rain ๐ŸŒง and temperatures around 39 degrees. There will be a west-northwest breeze at 14 mph. Today will have 13 hours and 40 minutes of daytime, an increase of 2 minutes and 41 seconds over yesterday.

Tonight will rain showers likely before 10pm, then a chance of rain and snow showers between 10pm and 1am, then a chance of snow showers after 1am. Mostly cloudy ๐ŸŒง, with a low of 31 degrees at 3am. Nine degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical night around March 31st. Northwest wind around 14 mph. Chance of precipitation is 60%. New snow accumulation of less than a half inch possible. In 2020, we had mostly clear skies in the evening, which became light snow by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 30 degrees. The record low of 20 occurred back in 1947.

Weekend forecast remains true, great weather Saturday, showers Sunday. Saturday, mostly sunny, with a high near 66. Maximum dew point of 40 at 8pm. ๐ŸŒž Sunday, showers likely, mainly before 2pm. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 57. Chance of precipitation is 60%. โ˜” Typical average high for the weekend is 62 degrees. I am thinking I will get packed on Thursday and Friday, and do my laundry then before heading up north for the weekend, probably Friday or maybe Saturday. Not totally sure.

Like so many Americans I wonder when life returns back to normal. ๐Ÿข I watch the building traffic on the road in front of my apartment, keep checking the Twitter and bus schedule. ๐Ÿš I have a meeting this afternoon and I wonder if I’ll get the news ๐Ÿ“ฐ about when the building downtown reopens. I’m a bit anxious. Tomorrow I renew my cell phone plan ๐Ÿ“ฑ and I suspect this will be the last month I’ll need the data plan but I’m fine with that as I like the walk down to the library. ๐Ÿ“š I’m sure it won’t be long before that’s fully re-opened. Kind of wanted to do a remote work trip to the Finger Lakes but I’m not sure if that’s going to happen before I return downtown.

As previously noted, there are 2 weeks until Cinco de Mayo ๐Ÿค  when the sun will be setting at 8:00 pm with dusk at 8:31 pm. With the COVID mostly in the rear view mirror, it might be more typical Cinco de Mayo, although I’m not sure if all the watering holes will be open if they exist anymore. On that day in 2020, we had sunny and temperatures between 59 and 38 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 66 degrees. We hit a record high of 91 back in 1944.

Sunset last night at Long Pond

April 20, 2021 Morning

Good morning! Happy Tuesday. One day closer to the weekend, and it might finally be a nice weekend for a change. Next Tuesday is Pink Moon ๐ŸŒ• . Mostly cloudy and 46 degrees in Delmar, NY. โ›… There is a south breeze at 5 mph. ๐Ÿƒ. Temperatures will drop below freezing at Thursday around midnight. โ˜ƒ๏ธ

Today will be partly sunny ๐ŸŒž, with a high of 62 degrees at 3pm. One degree above normal, which is similar to a typical day around April 23rd. South wind 5 to 15 mph becoming northwest in the afternoon. Winds could gust as high as 26 mph. Watch out for thunderstorms again today, although we didn’t get that much yesterday. A year ago, we had mostly sunny skies. The high last year was 54 degrees. The record high of 93 was set in 1941. 5.8 inches of snow fell back in 1947.โ„

Solar noon ๐ŸŒž is at 12:55 pm with sun having an altitude of 59° from the due south horizon (-11.8° vs. 6/21). A six foot person will cast a 3.6 foot shadow today compared to 2.2 feet on the first day of summer. The golden hour ๐Ÿ… starts at 7:05 pm with the sun in the west (280°). ๐Ÿ“ธ The sunset is in the west-northwest (287°) with the sun dropping below the horizon at 7:43 pm after setting for 3 minutes and 1 seconds with dusk around 8:12 pm, which is one minute and 8 seconds later than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ‡

I probably should go to the laundromat either today or tomorrow. ๐Ÿ‘• I am running low on clean clothes, although I could probably find some if I were to get more of summer attire out of the closet and put away some of the winter stuff. I will probably need more clean clothes, especially if I go up north for the weekend and possibly work remote from Speculator for a portion of next week. I can work down at the laundromat, making the necessary calls and emails using the wi-fi they have down there. ๐Ÿ’ป ๐Ÿ–  I would like to get off the metered network for a while to for updating software on my laptop, as there are some security updates and a QGIS update ๐Ÿ—บ I should install. ๐Ÿ˜Ž

At dusk you’ll see the Waxing Gibbous ๐ŸŒ” Moon in the south (189°) at an altitude of 69° from the horizon, 239,900 miles away. ๐Ÿš€ The best time to look at the stars is after 8:49 pm. At sunset, look for partly cloudy skies ๐ŸŒƒ and temperatures around 56 degrees. There will be a northwest breeze at 9 mph. Today will have 13 hours and 37 minutes of daytime, an increase of 2 minutes and 41 seconds over yesterday.

Tonight will have a chance of rain, mainly after 1am. Mostly cloudy ๐ŸŒง, with a low of 41 degrees at 5am. Two degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical night around April 25th. Northwest wind 5 to 7 mph becoming calm after midnight. Chance of precipitation is 30%. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch possible. In 2020, we had clear skies in the evening, which became light rain by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 31 degrees. The record low of 20 occurred back in 1875.

I saw that they’ve totally eliminated the auto enroll pre-pay discount for the cellphone data plan, ๐Ÿ“ฑ which is obnoxious, but I figure it will probably only be a month maybe two when I’ll need the hotspot and unlimited data plan. I figure it is because they are gently trying to push me off it to a capped plan. Come late May or June, I am figuring I’ll probably be back to working downtown, where they have wi-fi in the office, and if I need internet in the evening, there is always the park or library. ๐Ÿ“š Although between downloading Youtube videos and doing nearly everything on my phone these days, home internet is far less necessary. ๐Ÿคซ I can’t imagine the public library will be closed to indoor study for much longer as everybody is getting vaccinated, and I’m nearly fully immune from the Corona come next Tuesday, and I wasn’t the first one to race out and get my two shots or wait in line. ๐ŸšŒ

Still watching my credit card like a hawk. ๐Ÿ’ณ So far those 57-odd mistaken $1 charges haven’t dropped of the card, but if they turn into anything, I’ll have to call the credit card company. I’m hoping they just drop off the statement, and I won’t have to go through the process. I’m not sure if my card is locked or what is going on, but I’m observing and if I have problems come later in the week when I’m shopping, I’ll call the credit card company up to discuss.

Right now, a split verdict on the weekend. ๐Ÿ˜• Saturday, mostly sunny, with a high near 65. Maximum dew point of 38 at 9am. Sunday, showers likely. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 58. Chance of precipitation is 60%. Typical average high for the weekend is 62 degrees. Seems like the precipitation amounts and likelihood are decreasing for Sunday, โ˜” which is good as I might want to spend a long weekend up north. I can handle a day of 50 degrees with rain showers, especially with Monday and Tuesday looking pretty nice. I am leaning towards heading north after my therapy session, but we’ll see what the weather is like come Friday and what mood I am to head north at that point. Because I work from home, it’s not like the ice will be sitting in car all day thawing out.

As previously noted, next Tuesday is Pink Moon ๐ŸŒ• when the sun will be setting at 7:51 pm with dusk at 8:21 pm. On that day in 2020, we had rain showers, cold, cloudy and temperatures between 46 and 37 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 63 degrees. We hit a record high of 91 back in 1962.

April 19, 2021 Morning

Good morning! Monday’s come back around again. It’s Earth Week, a day where they celebrate spring tillage ๐Ÿšœ and that earthy smell of freshly tiled earth, diesel smoke and cow manure. ๐Ÿ’ฉ And rolling coal, ๐Ÿ›ป along with politicians lying about how they plan to save the earth ๐ŸŒŽ by allowing polluters to pollute more and covering the earth with cadmium-infused glass. ๐Ÿญ Four weeks to Average High is 70 ๐Ÿฎ. June is dairy month, although we reach the 70s by mid-May, although the cows like that. Partly sunny and 43 degrees in Delmar, NY. Calm wind. ๐Ÿ˜Ž Temperatures will drop below freezing at Thursday around 3 am. โ˜ƒ๏ธ

Cold start to the morning ๐ŸŒ… although that’s kind of my fault as I like sleeping with the windows open, so it feels more like January in my apartment then late April. But that’s fine, I’m enjoying my morning walk before work. ๐ŸšถI just sleep so much better with the windows open ๐Ÿ”ณ breathing in the fresh air and diesel smoke. Lol. I remember when I had that neighbor with that big throaty diesel that would rumble each morning before he left for his construction ๐Ÿšง worker ๐Ÿ‘ท job. Basically truck porn ๐Ÿ›ป. I did sleep like a baby so no complaints there. ๐Ÿ‘ถ Probably because I whine so much there days on the blog.

Today will be scattered showers and thunderstorms, mainly after 5pm. Partly sunny ๐ŸŒž, with a high of 63 degrees at 4pm. Three degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical day around April 25th. Calm wind becoming southwest around 6 mph in the afternoon. Chance of precipitation is 30%. New rainfall amounts of less than a tenth of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms. A year ago, we had mostly sunny skies in the morning, remaining cloudy in the afternoon. The high last year was 67 degrees. The record high of 92 was set in 1976. 8.8 inches of snow fell back in 1983.โ„

Such a nice morning โ˜€ that I really should work down at library today ๐Ÿ–ฅ but I don’t think the nice weather is expected to last much longer into the afternoon with rain โ˜” showers pushing in. I have fair amount of bandwidth to use up by Friday so it’s not really necessary. At least wherever I work — at least for the morning, I can enjoy the fresh air and sunlight.

I keep watching for changes to bus schedules ๐Ÿš as an early indicator when to when work will be returning to downtown. ๐ŸšI feel like they will be restoring commuter service about the time they reopen the state buildings downtown ๐Ÿข. Still the park and ride sits abandoned but maintained in pristine condition 13 months into the pandemic. At this point, like so many people I have very mixed emotions about returning back to the downtown office. ๐Ÿ™ After all we’ve built such a remote work ๐Ÿ’ป infrastructure. ๐Ÿ’‰ Come a week from Wednesday, it will be two weeks since my last COVID-19 shot so I am pretty unlikely to pick up COVID, at least not severe COVID-19, although I’m sure it will be many more months of mask wearing ๐Ÿ˜ท at least on public transit and in places where people can’t keep 6 feet apart.

Solar noon ๐ŸŒž is at 12:55 pm with sun having an altitude of 58.7ยฐ from the due south horizon (-12.1ยฐ vs. 6/21). A six foot person will cast a 3.7 foot shadow today compared to 2.2 feet on the first day of summer. The golden hour ๐Ÿ… starts at 7:04 pm with the sun in the west (280ยฐ). ๐Ÿ“ธ The sunset is in the west-northwest (286ยฐ) with the sun dropping below the horizon at 7:42 pm after setting for 3 minutes and 1 seconds with dusk around 8:11 pm, which is one minute and 9 seconds later than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ‡ At dusk you’ll see the First Quarter ๐ŸŒ“ Moon in the southwest (221ยฐ) at an altitude of 68ยฐ from the horizon, 242,820 miles away. ๐Ÿš€ The best time to look at the stars is after 8:48 pm. At sunset, look for partly clear skies ๐ŸŒ„ and temperatures around 58 degrees. There will be a south-southwest breeze at 5 mph. Today will have 13 hours and 35 minutes of daytime, an increase of 2 minutes and 43 seconds over yesterday.

Cut my hair ๐Ÿ’‡๐Ÿปโ€โ™‚๏ธ and sideburns yesterday, as I wanted to be cooler and cleaner with summer coming around. I have that hair trimmer which works pretty good job. The hat fits better ๐Ÿงข and the hair won’t get so matted with mud and sweat up at camp. โ›บ

Been continuing to monitor my bank accounts ๐Ÿ’ณ to watch for any fraudulent activity but I don’t see any but I’m hoping that those attempted $1 charges drop off it and the problem is over. I don’t want to have to order yet another card from the bank. I really can’t figure out what happened, as I’ve not done any Internet or phone purchases, and everything else has been dip-style purchases with the secure chip that doesn’t pass your credit card number through the machine. Maybe I have to tape something over card number from watching cameras, or I guess something could have read the strip even on the dip machine. ๐Ÿคช PARANOIA! I just hate dealing with coins ๐Ÿ’ต and exact change, after all these years of swipes.

Tonight will be partly cloudy ๐ŸŒƒ, with a low of 42 degrees at 3am. Three degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical night around April 28th. Should be a decent evening once the rain showers pass this afternoon. South wind around 5 mph. In 2020, we had light drizzle in the evening, which became mostly clear by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 36 degrees. The record low of 19 occurred back in 1875.

Weekend forecast looks pretty decent for late April. โ˜บ Saturday, mostly sunny, with a high near 64. Maximum dew point of 38 at 8pm. Sunday, a chance of showers. Partly sunny, with a high near 57. Chance of precipitation is 50%. Typical average high for the weekend is 62 degrees.

I really think this will be the weekend I make it to the Adirondacks. ๐Ÿ• It certainly might be a nice weekend up north. I might then head out to Central New York in the following weeks, just because there isn’t as likely to have black flies every where. Depending on the status of remote work come May, I might go out there for a week. I think working down by Seneca Lake with my laptop could be quiet pleasant, doing some camping up in the National Forest. ๐ŸŒฒ I know, just wishful thinking. But I spent a lot of time last summer working from shore of Lake Pleasant and that dock on Sacanadaga Riverwalk. ๐Ÿ“ฑ Still undecided if I will drive up on Friday or Saturday. I noticed they’ve raised the price on pre-treated safe and legal firewood at Stewarts, but maybe I can find a pallet in town I can chop up and burn, and use my magnet to pick out any nails from the fire pit. ๐Ÿ”ฅ ๐Ÿงฒ

Looking ahead, there are 4 weeks until Pack Rat Day ๐Ÿ€ when the sun will be setting at 8:13 pm with dusk at 8:45 pm. By then the greenies’ burn ban will be over, so when you do your clean outs in country, make sure to pile enough pallets and try not to burn too much noxious rubber or PVC products. ๐Ÿ”ฅ How much a different world it could have been had not that redneck been burning garbage upwind of a former Governor and high-price John’s country home in Columbia County. ๐Ÿ›ข On that day in 2020, we had mostly cloudy, rain showers and temperatures between 74 and 54 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 70 degrees. We hit a record high of 92 back in 2017.
