May 14, 2021 Morning

Good morning! Yeah, it’s Friday! Nice to be up north on a Friday, doing remote work, although it seems like the fun is coming to the end with a new CDC guidance and the desire for normalcy. ๐Ÿ‘จ‍๐Ÿ’ป Back to old ways on the bus and in the office. But for the past year, I’ve been able to spend a lot of summer up in the woods with my hotspot and phone. Two weeks to Memorial Day Weekend Starts ๐Ÿ•๏ธ . Sunny and 49 degrees in Speculator, NY. ๐ŸŒž There is a west breeze at 5 mph. ๐Ÿƒ.

A beautiful morning to start out the day, ๐Ÿ˜Ž and with the sun and clear skies. I am going to work from the screen tent this morning and my hotspot, but will probably head in mid-day to town to get some lunch and ice cream, and the my afternoon zoom meeting I’ll do at the Spectulator Library wi-fi. Maybe sit down by the lake in the afternoon ๐Ÿ’ป with the laptop. I got to say it’s fun while it lasted, although  it seems like there is a lot of discussion what the future is — people like remote work, and if the work is getting done, who really cares if it’s happening in a cubicle downtown or up in the wilderness. ๐ŸŒฒ The world of smartphones and laptops isn’t the world of 1970 any more. ๐Ÿ“ฑ Things are changing.

Had a nice fire last night, ๐Ÿ”ฅ and sat out and looked at the stars for a while โœจ although I didn’t stay up super late as it was an early start yesterday, as I had to make it to Speculator by 9 AM to clock in and get started for work — although admittedly I started my day in Wells, because I was running late. Kind of a busy day at work, lot of meetings and emails, but I got to spend a little time down at Lake Pleasant with a book in the evening before heading back to camp to get things set up. ๐Ÿณ Eggs and sausage for breakfast today, it was nice to sit outside for a while before the black flies got to bad. ๐Ÿœ

Today will have increasing clouds โ˜, with a high of 68 degrees at 4pm. Three degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical day around May 6th. Northwest wind 5 to 9 mph. A year ago, we had mostly sunny skies in the morning with a few breaks of sun the afternoon. The high last year was 70 degrees. The record high of 93 was set in 1900.

I may have to be a bit careful about managing my energy resources by the end of the day ๐Ÿ”‹ but for now things should be well charged. The important thing is having enough power for the laptop, ๐Ÿ’ป I can live with having reduced power tonight, as tomorrow will be sunny and I’m planning to head somewhere else in the Adirondacks and the alternator can top things off so I should be good for the rest of the weekend. I want to camp somewhere tomorrow where I don’t have cell reception, so I can have some time off the grid where I’m not constantly bombarded by news and happenings. ๐Ÿคซ I want to do some reading this weekend ๐Ÿ“š and not be constantly playing on the Facebook or TikTok.

Solar noon ๐ŸŒž is at 12:55 pm with sun having an altitude of 65.2° from the due south horizon (-4.7° vs. 6/21). A six foot person will cast a 2.8 foot shadow today compared to 2.2 feet on the first day of summer. The golden hour ๐Ÿ… starts at 7:34 pm with the sun in the west-northwest (290°). ๐Ÿ“ธ The sunset is in the west-northwest (297°) with the sun dropping below the horizon at 8:15 pm after setting for 3 minutes and 18 seconds with dusk around 8:47 pm, which is one minute and 5 seconds later than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ‡ At dusk you’ll see the Waxing Crescent ๐ŸŒ’ Moon in the west-northwest (283°) at an altitude of 24° from the horizon, 249,065 miles away. ๐Ÿš€ The best time to look at the stars is after 9:29 pm. At sunset, look for clear skies ๐ŸŒ„ and temperatures around 57 degrees. There will be a west-northwest breeze at 7 mph. Today will have 14 hours and 41 minutes of daytime, an increase of 2 minutes and 10 seconds over yesterday.

Tonight will be mostly clear ๐ŸŒƒ, with a low of 37 degrees at 4am. 11 degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical night around April 16th. Northwest wind 5 to 7 mph. In 2020, we had cloudy skies in the evening, which became partly cloudy by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 57 degrees. The record low of 31 occurred back in 1977.

This evening I will be participating in the Zoom between John Wolcott and Don Rittner. ๐ŸŽ™Yes, remotely from the Adirondacks. It should be a real interesting one for sure, although I doubt I’ll be doing much of the talking. But if I have questions, all I ask them. ๐Ÿ“น It should be a very interesting discussion. My new phone has good service where I am camping, which is good both for this interview and remote work.

Tomorrow will be mostly sunny ๐ŸŒž, with a high of 68 degrees at 4pm. Three degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical day around May 6th. West wind 5 to 8 mph. A year ago, we had mostly sunny skies in the morning with a few breaks of sun the afternoon. The high last year was 84 degrees. The record high of 93 was set in 1900.

I haven’t totally decided where I will hike tomorrow, ๐Ÿƒ‍โ™€๏ธ but I have some ideas, mostly around Spectulator. I wouldn’t mind a hike up Watch Hill again but I don’t think the road past Mason Lake is open yet for the summer. ๐Ÿ˜ž Otherwise, that would be a nice hike and place to camp. I thought about Hope Falls Road, but I want to stay up through Monday, that’s pretty far south if I am coming back north to work on Monday. ๐Ÿ’ญ So I don’t really know — but I want to spend much of the weekend off the grid.

Looking ahead to Sunday, scattered showers and thunderstorms, mainly after 2pm. Mostly sunny, with a high near 68. Northwest wind 3 to 5 mph. Chance of precipitation is 30%. New rainfall amounts of less than a tenth of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms. Maximum dew point of 43 at 8pm. Typical average high for the weekend is 71 degrees.

I could head home on Sunday, but Monday looks nice enough that I should try to get one more day in working from Spectulator. ๐Ÿ‘จ‍๐Ÿ’ป It going to be back to riding the bus and big office ๐Ÿ‘จ‍๐Ÿ’ผ for the second half of the week, so you got to take advantage of what you can, when you can. I’m a little bummed out that panademic is ending but I really also understand the benefits of in-person work, the social interactions and emotions conveyed at are missing over email โœ‰๏ธ, phone ๐Ÿ“ž and the Zoom. ๐Ÿ“น At least I feel good knowing that as a vaccinated person, ๐Ÿ’‰ I won’t have to worry about getting very sick from the COVID and mask wearing isn’t required ๐Ÿ˜ท except on buses, stores, and common places — mainly because the law, not because it will make me safer. Studies are pretty clear that the COVID vaccine is safe and very protective. โš— My hats off to the scientists that developed it.

As previously noted, there are 2 weeks until Memorial Day Weekend Starts ๐Ÿ•๏ธ when the sun will be setting at 8:28 pm with dusk at 9:02 pm. On that day in 2020, we had hot and humid weather that was mostly cloudy and temperatures between 83 and 68 degrees. I remember it well, I was working in Spectulator. Typically, the high temperature is 75 degrees. We hit a record high of 93 back in 2016.

I don’t anticipate going back to the Adirondacks for Memorial Day Weekend โ›บ this year as I expect to be fairly busy with work and the bugs are bad and things are crowded. Maybe next weekend I’ll do Madison County or maybe that will wait until June. I thought about the Green Mountains but I’d have to camp where I have good reception ๐Ÿ“ถ. I’ll have to think about it more.

At the creek

May 13, 2021 Morning

Good morning! Happy Thursday. Six weeks to Strawberry Moon ๐Ÿ“๐Ÿ“๐Ÿ“๐ŸŒ• . Those wild strawberries, the Juneberries are good. As are the ones from the farm markets in the Schoharie Valley. Mostly sunny and 55 degrees in Speculator, NY. There is a north-northwest breeze at 7 mph. ๐Ÿƒ. An early start, although not so early that I did hit some traffic around Schenectady and Amsterdam, but I made it up to Wells by 9 AM to check into work, and then Spectulator by mid-morning to work on the Wi-Fi up here. ๐Ÿ“ถ I was supposed to leave by 7 AM, but somehow at the end, things got slowed up and I didn’t get on the road until closer to 7:20 which meant more cars and school buses ๐ŸŽ’ to deal with.

This is the last Thursday I’ll be doing remote work, so I figure I should maximize it while I can. ๐Ÿ‘จ‍๐Ÿ’ป Next week starts 50% staff plus ramping up close to full-time in office come summer, although people still want some flexibility, and not sure if it always makes sense to do in-person when there isn’t meetings or trainings. Remote work is fun, especially when your out of town, but it’s still work — meaning I’m still fielding calls, writing emails and working on the laptop. But I do look forward to seeing my co-workers more in the office, and the benefits of face-to-face contact ๐Ÿ‘ฉ‍๐Ÿ’ผ ๐Ÿ‘จ‍๐Ÿ’ผ that is rather lost off the Internet. ๐Ÿ˜ท It seems like masks will be the normal for a while on the bus and around the water cooler, but I really do kind of look forward things getting back closer to normal.

I am going to probably stay up north until Monday after work, ๐Ÿ˜Ž but a lot depends on the weather and how I feel. I want to do some hiking and fishing on Saturday and Sunday. ๐ŸŽฃ I am hoping to also participate in the video call ๐Ÿ“น we are doing with John Wolcott and Don Rittner about the Pine Bush ๐ŸŒฒ on Friday night but that depends if I have cell services or not where I am camping. ๐Ÿ“ฑ A lot depends on whrere I ended up.

Today will be mostly sunny ๐ŸŒž, with a high of 65 degrees at 4pm. Six degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical day around April 28th. North wind around 8 mph. Probably back in Albany, it will be closer to normal. A year ago, we had partly cloudy skies in the morning with some clearing in the afternoon. The high last year was 59 degrees. The record high of 86 was set in 2004. There was a dusting of snow in 1953.โ„

Solar noon ๐ŸŒž is at 12:55 pm with sun having an altitude of 65° from the due south horizon (-5° vs. 6/21). A six foot person will cast a 2.8 foot shadow today compared to 2.2 feet on the first day of summer. The golden hour ๐Ÿ… starts at 7:33 pm with the sun in the west-northwest (290°). ๐Ÿ“ธ The sunset is in the west-northwest (297°) with the sun dropping below the horizon at 8:14 pm after setting for 3 minutes and 17 seconds with dusk around 8:46 pm, which is one minute and 6 seconds later than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ‡ At dusk you’ll see the Waxing Crescent ๐ŸŒ’ Moon in the west-northwest (289°) at an altitude of 15° from the horizon, 250,745 miles away. ๐Ÿš€ The best time to look at the stars is after 9:28 pm. At sunset, look for clear skies ๐ŸŒ„ and temperatures around 57 degrees. There will be a northwest breeze at 5 mph. Today will have 14 hours and 39 minutes of daytime, an increase of 2 minutes and 13 seconds over yesterday.

Tonight will be mostly clear ๐ŸŒƒ, with a low of 39 degrees at 5am. Nine degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical night around April 21st. Northwest wind 5 to 7 mph. I brought the heater as I might need it by morning to warm my hands. At least no ice or snow. In 2020, we had mostly clear skies. It got down to 33 degrees. The record low of 30 occurred back in 1996.

A picture perfect weekend on tap. ๐Ÿ˜Ž Saturday, isolated showers after 2pm. Mostly sunny, with a high near 67. West wind 3 to 7 mph. Chance of precipitation is 20%. Maximum dew point of 38 at 8am. Sunday, a chance of showers after 2pm. Mostly sunny, with a high near 66. Chance of precipitation is 30%. Maximum dew point of 43 at 8pm. Typical average high for the weekend is 71 degrees.

It should be nice up north, about what you would expect for this time of year. ๐Ÿ˜Ž Not too warm, fairly typical. Maybe some thunderstorms, but that’s expected this time of year. I want to do some hiking and laying back in the hammock, although I admit I’ll probably be a prisoner to the screen tent ๐ŸŽช more then I want to admit when the black flies are biting around. ๐Ÿœ I am thinking hiking back to Bennett Lake or maybe Wilcox Lake or somewhere along the East Branch. Or if Mason Lake is open, maybe up that way.

One month ๐Ÿ“… from now will be Fathers Day ๐Ÿ‘จ when the sun will be setting at 8:39 pm with dusk at 9:15 pm. The average high temperature is 71 degrees, with a record high of 86 in 2004.

 Mother Goose

May 12, 2021 Morning

Good morning! What day is it? Hump Day, of course. ๐Ÿช We can leave out the Homesteady humor today, as I am pretending today is a virtual Friday, although it’s not because I still have to work on Thursday and Friday from Lake Pleasant at least for one more long weekend. Two weeks to Flower Moon ๐ŸŒ• . By then it will warm up and we will have daisies and flower power. ๐ŸŒผ Did you see the 8-14 day out look? Summer is coming! Partly cloudy and 46 degrees in Delmar, NY. โ›… There is a west-northwest breeze at 15 mph. ๐Ÿƒ.

Today will be mostly sunny ๐ŸŒž, with a high of 63 degrees at 3pm. Seven degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical day around April 24th. Northwest wind 14 to 16 mph, with gusts as high as 26 mph. One more real chilly spring day with that stiff wind. Had a real strong gust blow through some time last night. No power or branches down right nearby who knows. A year ago, we had cloudy skies in the morning with a few breaks of sun the afternoon. The high last year was 54 degrees. The record high of 91 was set in 1881. There was a dusting of snow in 1996.โ„

With that wind ๐Ÿƒ I’m not expecting a real warm day but hopefully the clouds will push away. Windows are closed at home. Might open a few later for fresh air. A bit chilly but the sun helps when it is out from under the clouds and the sky is quite blue to the north.

I was thinking of working in the office ๐Ÿข today, but now that the plumbing is fixed and I won’t have that distraction I have nothing to worry about and I can work from home. I’d rather do that as during downtime I can pack for the weekend. Next week at this time, I’ll be well on my way to downtown on the bus ๐Ÿš. The reduced bus schedule means an earlier departure for me. I sure hope they bring back the express bus stop and added services at rush hour. Back to in person work two days a week next week.

I’m thinking I will leave at 7 AM tomorrow and spend the day working from Lake Pleasant Thursday and Friday. โ›บ I’d like to camp at Mason Lake where I have cell service but I don’t think that’s open yet.

Solar noon ๐ŸŒž is at 12:53 pm with sun having an altitude of 65.6ยฐ from the due south horizon (-5.2ยฐ vs. 6/21). A six foot person will cast a 2.7 foot shadow today compared to 2.2 feet on the first day of summer. The golden hour ๐Ÿ… starts at 7:28 pm with the sun in the west-northwest (289ยฐ). ๐Ÿ“ธ The sunset is in the west-northwest (296ยฐ) with the sun dropping below the horizon at 8:08 pm after setting for 3 minutes and 13 seconds with dusk around 8:39 pm, which is one minute and 4 seconds later than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ‡ At dusk you’ll see the Waxing Crescent ๐ŸŒ’ Moon in the west-northwest (294ยฐ) at an altitude of 5ยฐ from the horizon, 251,833 miles away. ๐Ÿš€ The best time to look at the stars is after 9:20 pm. At sunset, look for partly clear skies ๐ŸŒ„ and temperatures around 56 degrees. There will be a west-northwest breeze at 8 mph. Today will have 14 hours and 32 minutes of daytime, an increase of 2 minutes and 10 seconds over yesterday.

Tonight will be partly cloudy ๐ŸŒค, with a low of 39 degrees at 5am. Eight degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical night around April 21st. Northwest wind 5 to 8 mph becoming calm after midnight. In 2020, we had cloudy skies in the evening, which became partly cloudy by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 29 degrees. The record low of 30 occurred back in 2005.

A picture perfect weekend on tap. ๐Ÿ˜Ž Saturday, a chance of showers after 2pm. Mostly sunny, with a high near 71. Chance of precipitation is 30%. Maximum dew point of 46 at 7pm. Sunday, a chance of showers after 2pm. Mostly sunny, with a high near 72. Chance of precipitation is 30%. Maximum dew point of 48 at 8pm. Typical average high for the weekend is 71 degrees.

As previously noted, there are 2 weeks until Flower Moon ๐ŸŒ• when the sun will be setting at 8:21 pm with dusk at 8:55 pm. On that day in 2020, we had hot weather mostly sunny skies and temperatures between 90 and 64 degrees. I think it might be that warm this year too. Typically, the high temperature is 74 degrees. We hit a record high of 94 back in 2010.

 Vromans Nose

May 6, 2021 Morning

Good morning! Happy Thursday. Partly cloudy and 47 degrees in Delmar, NY. โ›… There is a northwest breeze at 11 mph. ๐Ÿƒ with gusts up to 22 mph ๐Ÿ’จ๐Ÿ’จ๐Ÿ’จ. The breeze definitely makes things feel cooler than reality. Still a nice spring day. ๐ŸŒธ While still a month away, looking forward to seeing the daisies ๐ŸŒผ come out. Birds are definitely chirping today. ๐Ÿฆ The grass blowing in the wind ๐ŸŒพ at the farm down the way is pretty with the deep blue skies.

I’ve been getting to bed early ๐Ÿ› and an earlier start, as it won’t be long before I am going downtown more regularly ๐Ÿข. I also am not sure when the landlord is coming over to make repairs so I wanted to take a shower ๐Ÿšฟ and be ready to go downtown for work if he starts making a lot of noise. ๐Ÿšฝ I’ve worked from home when he’s been over making repairs but it’s a terrible distraction. ๐Ÿ”Š Even if he doesn’t come over today and I end up just feeling clean that’s fine. ๐Ÿ›€ Keeping things good and clean is good.

Today will be mostly sunny ๐ŸŒž, with a high of 59 degrees at 5pm. Eight degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical day around April 17th. Northwest wind 11 to 17 mph, with gusts as high as 32 mph. That breeze despite the sun will keep things feeling cool. A year ago, we had mostly sunny skies. The high last year was 59 degrees. The record high of 89 was set in 1930. There was a dusting of snow in 1994.โ„

Solar noon ๐ŸŒž is at 12:53 pm with sun having an altitude of 64° from the due south horizon (-6.8° vs. 6/21). A six foot person will cast a 2.9 foot shadow today compared to 2.2 feet on the first day of summer. The golden hour ๐Ÿ… starts at 7:22 pm with the sun in the west-northwest (287°). ๐Ÿ“ธ The sunset is in the west-northwest (294°) with the sun dropping below the horizon at 8:02 pm after setting for 3 minutes and 10 seconds with dusk around 8:32 pm, which is one minute and 7 seconds later than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ‡ The best time to look at the stars is after 9:12 pm. At sunset, look for mostly clear skies ๐ŸŒ„ and temperatures around 52 degrees. There will be a west-northwest breeze at 7 mph. Today will have 14 hours and 18 minutes of daytime, an increase of 2 minutes and 22 seconds over yesterday.

Still trying to figure out what they smell is downstairs. ๐Ÿ‘ƒ๐Ÿป Airing things out helped. Maybe a dead mouse ๐Ÿญ although I’m leaning towards mold under the carpet when I was scrubbing it earlier in the week. I guess it’s an excuse to do more cleaning. I plugged in an air freshener downstairs and I’m continuing to search around. Windows are all open which I think is helping. I may make a trip to the store later to get more air fresheners and cleaning supplies. ๐Ÿšฝ Maybe some is the noxious ammonia cleaner I’ve been using later, or that bathroom mat that looks like it has some urine on it. Not sure, I got to get better at aiming for the toilet when I pee. Yet, another benefit to being out in the woods.

Tonight will be partly cloudy ๐ŸŒค, with a low of 38 degrees at 6am. Six degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical night around April 18th. Going to be a chilly night to keep the windows open ๐Ÿ”ณ. West wind 5 to 7 mph becoming calm after midnight. In 2020, we had mostly clear skies in the evening, which became cloudy by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 43 degrees. The record low of 29 occurred back in 1874.

Weekend looks increasingly cloudy and stormy and cold. ๐Ÿ˜• Saturday, a chance of showers. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 56. Northeast wind around 6 mph becoming west in the afternoon. Chance of precipitation is 40%. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch possible. Sunday, mostly sunny, with a high near 61. Maximum dew point of 38 at 8am. Typical average high for the weekend is 67 degrees. I will probably just walk out to Five Rivers on Saturday and then do some kind of hike Sunday.

Looking ahead, there are 7 weeks until Strawberry Moon ๐ŸŒ• when the sun will be setting at 8:37 pm with dusk at 9:12 pm. On that day in 2020, we had humid, partly sunny, rain showers and temperatures between 85 and 65 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 80 degrees. We hit a record high of 96 back in 1943.

Red

May 5, 2021 Morning

Good morning! Happy Cinco de Mayo ๐Ÿค  ! At least now if you are vaccinated you can feel relatively safe going out if that’s your thing. If I do anything it will just heating up some of those taquitos I got from Wally World last week. Classy. ๐ŸŒฏ Three weeks to Flower Moon ๐ŸŒ• ๐ŸŒธ. Cloudy, damp and 54 degrees in Delmar, NY. โ˜” There is a south-southeast breeze at 7 mph. ๐Ÿƒ. The dew point is 51 degrees. We got another good soaker last night again. The skies will clear tomorrow around noontime.

Yesterday, I texted the landlord about getting various plumbing repairs done. ๐Ÿ›  My therapist says I shouldn’t delay on getting such repairs done and he’s right – delay just means additional problems down the road, rent has gone up and my lease has just been renewed. ๐Ÿšฝ My therapist also says my procrastination on too many things in my life feeds my anxiety and deferred maintenance and avoiding unpleasant things today means things are more unpleasant tomorrow. ๐Ÿ‘จ๐Ÿป‍โš•๏ธ I should also get a yearly physical, establish a more regular appointment with my doctor and get my eyes ๐Ÿ‘€ checked. Maybe next week. I’m paying money for these sessions, I really should do my damnedest to follow his advice.

I’m ended up going down to the library ๐Ÿ“š yesterday afternoon to work, not because I really needed the data for work but I like not having to watch the data meter on my laptop. ๐Ÿ–ฅ While having mobile broadband works well enough for me it’s kind of just nice to not have to be careful. I am going to be working downtown more in the coming weeks, so I’ve decided on in two weeks to save $10 or so dollars ๐Ÿ’ต a month by reducing my hotspot plan down. That will balance out the higher costs of the bus fares.

Today will have times of rain, mainly before 5pm. The rain could be heavy at times. ๐ŸŒง High of 58 degrees at 1pm. Seven degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical day around April 17th. Maximum dew point of 53 at 10am. ๐Ÿ–๏ธ South wind around 7 mph becoming west in the afternoon. Cold and wet, but at least it will be warm enough to have the windows open. Chance of precipitation is 80%. New precipitation amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch possible. A year ago, we had mostly sunny skies. The high last year was 59 degrees. The record high of 91 was set in 1944. There was a dusting of snow in 1900.โ„

This morning is rain-free but I expect much more later. ๐ŸŒง I will work from home, and just do what I need as I have plenty of bandwidth built up and it wouldn’t be nice to go outside. This evening I’ll probably run to store to pick up some supplies. Also want to continue doing some more cleaning. Both because the landlord will be coming over and because things are getting kind of dirty and they need to get cleaner. ๐Ÿงน just there Plus I’m trying to go through some clutter and getting it cleaned up — I figure probably in a wet or two I’ll be up in the woods, and it’s a great opportunity to get rid of confidential papers in the fire. ๐Ÿ”ฅ Stuff burns, yeap.

Coming back from my walk, I noticed something stinky in my downstairs. ๐Ÿ‘ƒ I took out the garbage, been a week and half since I did that. But I don’t think that was it. I did some more cleaning, and sprayed some air freshener. I might go to store and pick up some air freshers or something, I can’t find what got spilled and is rotting. ๐Ÿคฎ Maybe it’s an excuse to do more of a deep clean to everything today when I have downtime. Just trying to get more cleanliness and order into my life.

Solar noon ๐ŸŒž is at 12:53 pm with sun having an altitude of 63.7° from the due south horizon (-7.1° vs. 6/21). A six foot person will cast a 3 foot shadow today compared to 2.2 feet on the first day of summer. The golden hour ๐Ÿ… starts at 7:21 pm with the sun in the west-northwest (287°). ๐Ÿ“ธ The sunset is in the west-northwest (294°) with the sun dropping below the horizon at 8:00 pm after setting for 3 minutes and 9 seconds with dusk around 8:31 pm, which is one minute and 7 seconds later than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ‡ The best time to look at the stars is after 9:10 pm. At sunset, look for rain ๐ŸŒง and temperatures around 52 degrees. The dew point will be 46 degrees. There will be a west-northwest breeze at 10 mph. Today will have 14 hours and 16 minutes of daytime, an increase of 2 minutes and 23 seconds over yesterday.

Tonight will have a chance of rain before 7pm, then scattered showers between 7pm and midnight. Cloudy, then gradually becoming partly cloudy ๐ŸŒง, with a low of 44 degrees at 4am. Typical for tonight. Northwest wind around 11 mph, with gusts as high as 21 mph. Chance of precipitation is 30%. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch possible. In 2020, we had mostly clear skies. It got down to 34 degrees. The record low of 29 occurred back in 1969.

Thinking tomorrow or Friday I’ll work in the office downtown. ๐Ÿข I get tired of being home all the time, and if the landlord is going to be over here making repairs it will likely be noisy and disruptive. I could work at the library but I think I’d rather just work downtown. I told John Wolcott if I’m going to be downtown tomorrow, I will go over to his house. ๐Ÿ”Ž

Cool this weekend but Sunday should be sunny. ๐ŸŒž Saturday, a chance of showers. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 56. Chance of precipitation is 50%. Sunday, partly sunny, with a high near 59. Typical average high for the weekend is 67 degrees. I am staying in town this weekend but if next weekend is good I might go to Central NY I’m thinking ๐Ÿ’ญ. Won’t be the black flies there. Maybe do a long weekend, depending if I remote work with my hotpsot and laptop, assuming there is plenty of sun for the solar. Maybe Saturday will be a walk to Five Rivers, and then Sunday a hike somewhere else. ๐Ÿฆ

As previously noted, there are 3 weeks until Flower Moon ๐ŸŒ• when the sun will be setting at 8:21 pm with dusk at 8:55 pm. On that day in 2020, we had hot, mostly sunny and temperatures between 90 and 64 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 72 degrees. We hit a record high of 94 back in 2010.

East Branch in Evening

April 29, 2021 Morning

Good morning! Happy Thursday. Fog and clouds and 58 degrees out for my morning walk past the Bethlehem Central High School. ๐ŸŒซ Calm wind. The dew point is 57 degrees. A tad bit of a mugginess in the air. The skies will clear Saturday around 5 am. I am glad I at least was able to get out for my walk.

Yesterday was an incredibly busy day ๐Ÿ‘จ๐Ÿป‍๐Ÿ’ผ between the lunch time meeting downtown and the project I was working on. ๐Ÿ“„ Kind of nice having things start to get closer back to normal. ๐Ÿ˜ท Still wearing the mask on the bus and hallways, but with everybody vaccinated didn’t have to be quite so concerned about maintaining six-feet in the office, ๐Ÿ”€. I do love the view from my office in the Smith building, but when I return downtown, I might actually be moving to a new private office, with not such a great view but closer to department I work with these days.

I went over to John Wolcott’s house for a while ๐Ÿ“œ and while we didn’t find anything too exciting, it was an interesting afternoon in the sense a bunch of bullets rang out down the street about 5 minutes after I arrived. ๐Ÿ”ซ Sounded like a 22lr gun, I tuned into police scanner and they said it was somebody shooting a long-gun in a blue Jeep liberty. ๐Ÿ’ฅ They closed off the street for a while, and I don’t know what ended up happening but by the time I went to catch the bus, ๐ŸšŒ everything was packed up and gone except for one remaining police car. ๐Ÿ‘ฎ‍โ™€๏ธ Don’t you know, you aren’t supposed to be shooting off your guns within 500 feet of an occupied structure that you don’t own. ๐ŸŒฒ One of the advantages of being in Adirondacks — being able to shoot your guns without people getting all pissy like they do in the ghetto. ๐Ÿš

Today will have showers likely, mainly between 2pm and 3pm, then rain after 3pm. Patchy fog before 9am. ๐ŸŒฆ High of 64 degrees at 1pm. One degree above normal, which is similar to a typical day around May 1st. Maximum dew point of 58 at 2pm. ๐Ÿ–๏ธ Calm wind becoming north around 6 mph in the afternoon. Chance of precipitation is 80%. New precipitation amounts between a quarter and half of an inch possible. A year ago, we had partly cloudy skies in the morning, remaining cloudy in the afternoon. The high last year was 66 degrees. The record high of 88 was set in 1888. 1 inch of snow fell back in 1885.โ„ Hardly something to write about, then again Saturday is May Day.

I am not expecting a real nice day, โ›ˆ and probably real wet later but at least I got out for my morning walk. I am thinking about going to laundromat ๐Ÿ‘• but it will depend on how the day goes, I might change my mind later on. Starting to run low on groceries, but my list of things to do for work is so long ๐Ÿ“‹ that I don’t know if leaving my computer during the day is going to work. ๐Ÿ“จ I’m also having some issues with emails on my phone. I’ll have to try to figure that out as I’ve been super busy lately. ๐Ÿค– But I guess it’s a good change, it makes me feel far less bored, and I’m getting important things done.

Solar noon ๐ŸŒž is at 12:53 pm with sun having an altitude of 62° from the due south horizon (-8.9° vs. 6/21). A six foot person will cast a 3.2 foot shadow today compared to 2.2 feet on the first day of summer. The golden hour ๐Ÿ… starts at 7:15 pm with the sun in the west-northwest (284°). ๐Ÿ“ธ The sunset is in the west-northwest (291°) with the sun dropping below the horizon at 7:54 pm after setting for 3 minutes and 6 seconds with dusk around 8:24 pm, which is one minute and 8 seconds later than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ‡ The best time to look at the stars is after 9:02 pm. At sunset, look for rain showers ๐ŸŒง and temperatures around 62 degrees. The dew point will be 56 degrees. There will be a east-southeast breeze at 7 mph. Today will have 14 hours and one minute of daytime, an increase of 2 minutes and 32 seconds over yesterday.

Tonight will rain before 8pm, then showers, mainly between 8pm and 2am. ๐ŸŒง Low of 53 degrees at 6am. 10 degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical night around May 30th. Maximum dew point of 57 at 6pm. ๐Ÿ–๏ธ Southeast wind 5 to 8 mph becoming northwest after midnight. Chance of precipitation is 90%. New precipitation amounts between a half and three quarters of an inch possible. In 2020, we had cloudy skies in the evening, which became light rain by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 47 degrees. The record low of 25 occurred back in 1874.

Ever since I got out camping I’ve been sleeping really well. ๐Ÿ’ค It’s amazing what a few nights in the wilderness can do for sleeping. ๐Ÿ›Œ Maybe it’s the campfires ๐Ÿ”ฅ or having a few beers up at camp, ๐Ÿบ but it’s probably just listening to sound of wilderness.

The weekend forecast has improved. ๐Ÿ˜Ž Saturday, sunny, with a high near 55. Northwest wind 14 to 16 mph. Sunday, partly sunny, with a high near 68. Maximum dew point of 48 at 1pm. Typical average high for the weekend is 65 degrees. Yeah, I’ll take that forecast but it should also awaken the black flies. ๐Ÿœ That said, I think this is a stay at home weekend, just because next Monday doesn’t look great, and I just got back from the Adirondacks.

Looking ahead, there are 8 weeks until Strawberry Moon ๐ŸŒ• when the sun will be setting at 8:37 pm with dusk at 9:12 pm. On that day in 2020, we had humid and humid weather partly sunny, rain showers and temperatures between 85 and 65 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 80 degrees. Yeah, that’s late June. We hit a record high of 96 back in 1943.

April 28, 2021 10 AM Update

Good morning! What day is it? Hump Day, of course. It seems odd, being mid-week after coming to the Adirondacks. โ›ฐ Kind of hard to get back into the routine, especially as I have to put on my suit and head downtown. Four weeks to Flower Moon ๐ŸŒ• . That pink moon a few nights ago was pretty for sure. Mostly cloudy and 53 degrees in Delmar, NY . โ˜ Calm wind. The dew point is 48 degrees. The skies will clear Saturday around 5 am.

Didn’t get an early start this morning, ๐Ÿ˜ด so I ended up missing my morning walk. Made cheese Bisquick biscuits, and extra pot of coffee โ˜• and got on with my day. Maybe it was a mistake to not do my morning walk, but it’s tough to get back into the routine after the Adirondacks. Still getting unpacked but any gear that I don’t need at home, I’ll leave in the truck as it will be only a matter of time before I go nrth or west. ๐Ÿ•

Today will have a slight chance of showers between 1pm and 2pm, then a chance of showers and thunderstorms after 2pm. Cloudy ๐ŸŒฅ, with a high of 63 degrees at 2pm. One degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical day around April 27th. Maximum dew point of 52 at 4pm. Calm wind becoming south 5 to 7 mph in the afternoon. Chance of precipitation is 40%. New rainfall amounts between a quarter and half of an inch possible. A year ago, we had mostly sunny skies. The high last year was 63 degrees. The record high of 92 was set in 1990. There was a dusting of snow in 1966.โ„

I have a meeting downtown, ๐Ÿข so I will be putting on my suit later on ๐Ÿ‘จ‍๐Ÿ’ผ and heading downtown mid-day and will work in the office until 5 PM. ๐Ÿ‘ž My dress shoes are still in the office since the last time I was there before the pandemic. Not been a lot of formal business meetings, ๐Ÿ’ผ but slowly things are getting back to normal. After which I am going over to John Wolcott’s house โœ‰๏ธ in search of a long lost Fort Orange document. While I still have to wear the muzzle on my face on elevators and the bus, ๐Ÿ˜ท as of Tuesday mid-day I am two weeks out from my second vaccine, so I am good. ๐Ÿ’‰ Probably wearing a mask is good though to keep from getting colds or even a minor case of COVID, although the risk of the later is quite low two weeks after Pfizer, with a 95 percent effectiveness. ๐Ÿ‘ฉ‍๐Ÿ”ฌ Science is an amazing thing, even though at times it can lead us astray.

Solar noon ๐ŸŒž is at 12:56 pm with sun having an altitude of 60.8° from the due south horizon (-9.2° vs. 6/21). A six foot person will cast a 3.4 foot shadow today compared to 2.2 feet on the first day of summer. The golden hour ๐Ÿ… starts at 7:17 pm with the sun in the west-northwest (284°). ๐Ÿ“ธ The sunset is in the west-northwest (291°) with the sun dropping below the horizon at 7:56 pm after setting for 3 minutes and 8 seconds with dusk around 8:27 pm, which is one minute and 11 seconds later than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ‡ The best time to look at the stars is after 9:06 pm. At sunset, lookout for rain ๐ŸŒง and thunderstorms ๐ŸŒฉ and temperatures around 58 degrees. The dew point will be 51 degrees. This evening could be quite wet, I’m bringing the umbrella into work. There will be a south-southwest breeze at 7 mph. Today will have 14 hours and 2 minutes of daytime, an increase of 2 minutes and 39 seconds over yesterday.

Tonight will have showers and possibly a thunderstorm before midnight, then a chance of showers and thunderstorms between midnight and 2am, then a chance of showers after 2am. ๐ŸŒง Low of 49 degrees at 6am. Four degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical night around May 11th. Southwest wind 3 to 6 mph. Chance of precipitation is 80%. New rainfall amounts between a quarter and half of an inch possible. In 2020, we had mostly clear skies in the evening, which became partly cloudy by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 39 degrees. The record low of 27 occurred back in 1947.

Cool this weekend with temperatures running 10 degrees below normal but otherwise sunny. ๐Ÿ˜ƒ Saturday, mostly sunny, with a high near 51. Sunday, a chance of showers after 2pm. Partly sunny, with a high near 59. Chance of precipitation is 30%. ๐Ÿ˜Ž Typical average high for the weekend is 65 degrees. I am still thinking this forecast is overly optimistic for the weekend, and it will be rainier then one might hope. I am going to stick close to town, but if it’s nicer in two weeks I might go to Brookfield or back to ADKs, maybe tacked on with some days of remote work in the woods if I don’t have downtown meetings. ๐Ÿ•

As previously noted, next Wednesday is Cinco de Mayo ๐Ÿค  when the sun will be setting at 8:04 pm with dusk at 8:36 pm. On that day in 2020, we had sunny and temperatures between 59 and 38 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 66 degrees. We hit a record high of 91 back in 1944.
