Looking North-West from Sugar Hill Firetower.
Taken on Monday June 29, 2009 at Sugar Hill State Forest.Good morning! Talk about a beautiful Tuesday morning. Three weeks to Primary Day ๐ณ๏ธ. It will be summer by then. One of these days I’ll have to research the primary candidates. I kind of like voting for interesting people. ๐ If you’re going to vote โ for the grafter they should be at least colorful and fun. Like Mike Connors. Plus Independence Day is a month away. ๐ I think soon they’ll be selling fountain fireworks and sparklers. Yeap, I need some to light off in the wilderness and disturb the peace.โฎ
We may lose and we may win
Though we will never be here again
So open up I’m climbin’ in
I heard the lady in the flat bed Ford was in her mid 70s at this point, hands calloused from years hauling slop buckets and working with heavy machinery on the farm. ๐ I bet she packs too. ๐ซ Probably if she’s in New Mexico she has solar on the house.
Sunny and 52 degrees at the CDTA Bus Stop #10595. ๐ There is a west-northwest breeze at 10 mph. ๐. Still need to figure out how to get that temperature probe working in my apartment so I don’t really have an idea on the temperature at home. I’ll probably have to desolder things and test with a voltmeter. โก
Today will have a chance of showers, mainly after 4pm. Increasing clouds ๐, with a high of 65 degrees at 2pm. 10 degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical day around May 2nd. West wind 8 to 11 mph. Chance of precipitation is 30%. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch possible. A year ago, we had cloudy skies in the morning, which became light rain by afternoon. The high last year was 66 degrees. The record high of 97 was set in 1919.
Heading in somewhat earlier than normal ๐ข because I have a project to do this morning. At least it’s a nice morning for a change, not too cold or rainy. And it’s amazing we haven’t had any super hot and humid days. ๐ฅ But I know those days are coming as are days at the Potholers. ๐
The sun will set at 8:28 pm with dusk around 9:03 pm, which is 43 seconds later than yesterday. ๐ At sunset, look for rain showers ๐ง and temperatures around 60 degrees. The dew point will be 47 degrees. There will be a northwest breeze at 5 mph. Duck, I didn’t bring my umbrella โ by I might have one in the office for what’s it’s worth. Today will have 15 hours and 10 minutes of daytime, an increase of one minute and 5 seconds over yesterday.
Tonight will have showers likely, mainly between 7pm and 11pm. Cloudy ๐ง, with a low of 53 degrees at 5am. Typical for tonight. Maximum dew point of 50 at 4am. Light and variable wind becoming south around 6 mph after midnight. Chance of precipitation is 60%. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch possible. In 2018, we had mostly clear skies in the evening, which became light rain by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 48 degrees. The record low of 39 occurred back in 1990.
I have narrowed down my list of camping hammocks ๐ to replace my torn one. They really are quite affordable and they do provide a lot of pleasure ๐ up at camp. Forty or fifty bucks doesn’t go that far anymore.ย I want to finalize my decision by mid week so I have it for the following week should I go to either Piseco-Powley Road or Perkins Clearing. Probably the later as I need cell reception ๐ถ for work and there is no reception at Piseco-Powley Road or very spotty, although I might spend my day down in Little Falls should I go up to Piseco-Powley Road during the third weekend of June.
I’ve continued my search for USB rechargable flashlights on AliExpress and EBay. ๐ฆ Ideally I’d like something that I could plug directly into one of the many the USB ports on my truck for charging, ๐ although I guess I could use a cable. A lot of them are based around the 18650 rechargable lithium ion battery that has the advantage that many chargers are available, and they are easy to swap in and out of the flashlights, although they make things more bulky. I just want something I can keep fully charged up at camp when I need them when things are dark, so it’s ready with bright light.
While I guess CDTA has had this for a while on their website, I noticed just yesterday if you go to their mobile website or website, they will show you the estimated position of buses along the line. ๐ (Look for the bus icon along the stop) That’s a feature I’ve looking for for years, if only for a psychological benefit of having something to look at on my phone while I wait for the bus. Real time bus information is nice — with a minute delay, but I think I kind of prefer to see the estimated bus location. It’s not perfect as the buses only ping the bus service servers once a minute, and sometimes downtown the signal is blocked by the buildings.
As previously noted, there are 3 weeks until Primary Day ๐ณ๏ธ at least for us democrats locally when the sun will be setting at 8:37 pm with dusk at 9:12 pm. On that day in 2018, we had mostly sunny, rain showers and temperatures between 78 and 55 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 80 degrees. We hit a record high of 95 back in 1898.
Good evening! Modestly heavy rain and 55 degrees in Delmar, NY. โ There is a east-northeast breeze at 9 mph. ๐. The dew point is 48 degrees. Evidently, I’m not going for my evening walk tonight. I did however ride the excerise bike for about an hour watching videos from Keith Fink’s Farm YouTube channel and one from Computerfile. The skies will clear tomorrow around 11 pm.
I have to admit I’ve kind of gotten to like watching YouTube videos I’ve downloaded for watching at home. That youtube-dl script is pretty awesome for that. ๐น While I don’t watch commercials television or professionally produced shows I do like watching videos and hunting, trapping and fishing, farming and off-grid living. And sometimes camping. It makes time riding on the excerise bike ๐ฒ go by quickly. While in many ways I prefer podcasts, videos can sometimes take you places where you can’t go just by audio. Plus the kind of videos I watch on my excerise bike aren’t the rot your brain like on commercial television. Sure, probably watching a farmer birth calves or seed ๐ฑ oats isn’t intectually stimulating but it’s fascinating.
Today was another automobile free day for me. ๐ I walked out to Five Rivers Environmental Education Center and then took the bus ๐ and walked over to John Wolcott’s house. ๐ I didn’t find a lot of interesting files over the four and half hours of study and sorting this time but you never know what you are going to find. I prefer walking ๐ถ and transit when I’m in town not only to save money ๐ต but because you see and experience more on foot.
Tonight will have showers, with thunderstorms also possible after midnight. Some of the storms could produce heavy rain. ๐ง Low of 55 degrees at 9pm. 16 degrees above normal, which is similiar to a typical night around June 2nd. Now if it wasn’t raining it would be a really nice evening. Warming through the night. Maximum dew point of 55 at 1am. ๐๏ธ East wind 9 to 14 mph becoming south after midnight. Chance of precipitation is 80%. New rainfall amounts between a quarter and half of an inch possible. In 2018, we had cloudy in the evening, which became partly cloudy by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 28 degrees. The record low of 21 occurred back in 1940.
Tonight will have a Waxing Gibbous Moon ๐ with 85% illuminated. The moon will set at 4:26 am. The Pink Moon ๐ is on Thursday night with a mostly cloudy skies then chance of showers. The sun will rise at 6:14 am with the first light at 5:45 am, which is one minute and 38 seconds earlier than yesterday. ๐ Tonight will have 10 hours and 36 minutes of darkness, a decrease of 2 minutes and 46 seconds over last night.
Tomorrow will have showers, mainly before 8am. Temperature rising to near 60 by 10am, then falling to around 47 during the remainder of the day. Breezy, with a southwest wind 7 to 12 mph becoming west 15 to 20 mph in the afternoon. Winds could gust as high as 31 mph. Chance of precipitation is 80%. New precipitation amounts between a quarter and half of an inch possible. A year ago, we had cloudy in the morning, which became rain by afternoon. The high last year was 36 degrees. The record high of 86 was set in 2003. 2.4 inches of snow fell back in 2014.โ
I am not looking forward to defensive driving tomorrow because I generally think motoring ๐ is an unpleasant experience but it’s good to learn about the latest laws and safety techniques. So many of the safety videos are boring or obnoxious. Lots of time though to doodle and daydream a bit. But I like saving 10% on my car insurance.
I’m going to research other insurance companies and plans though and possibly look at a more affordable plan before my insurance expires at the end of the month of September. ๐ฎ It’s important to have good coverage but I’m not sure if my plan – which is the same as my parents have had for decades with minor changes still makes sense for me. $920 a year for insurance when my truck is no longer new, I don’t drive daily and I’ve never gotten a ticket ๐ซ or chargeable accident seems excessive. I might look at reducing my liability insurance and under insured motorists a bit – I would hate to be sued in court beyond what my insurance will cover in a severe crash but I realize such a crash caused by me is fairly unlikely because I primarily drive on rural roads and not in congested areas.
The long range doesn’t look that great for Easter weekend. Major bummer! ๐ No camping Easter Weekend ๐ฐ I guess. Next Saturday, showers likely. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 68. Chance of precipitation is 60%. Maximum dew point of 55 at 6am. Next Sunday, a chance of showers. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 60. Chance of precipitation is 30%. Typical average high for the weekend is 61 degrees.
I am most likely looking at camping โบ in two weeks possibly taking off the Thursday and Friday of that week. I’ll miss the Save the Pine Bush Hike but I’d rather spend more time up in the wilderness as it’s been a long time since I’ve spent time overnight in the woods. ๐ฅ A nice campfire, and waking up to a sunrise in the wilderness would be wonderful.
In four weeks on May 12 the sun will be setting at 8:07 pm,๐ which is 31 minutes and 23 seconds later then tonight. In 2018 on that day, we had cloudy, rain showers and temperatures between 50 and 48 degrees. Typically, you have temperatures between 68 and 46 degrees. The record high of 91 degrees was set back in 1881.
Looking ahead, Easter ๐ฐ is in 1 week, Cinco de Mayo ๐ค is in 3 weeks, Mothers Day ๐ฉโ is in 4 weeks, Fathers Day ๐จ is in 9 weeks, National Nude Day ๐ฑ is in 3 months (black flies will be gone by then), Altamont Fair Opens ๐ก is in 4 months, Sunset Before 7:30 PM ๐ is in 20 weeks, Autumn ๐ is in 23 weeks and Average High is 60 ๐ is in 26 weeks.
Good morning! Happy Thursday. Feels more like a Friday to me, although I have to go to work tomorrow. That’s what happens when you work Sunday. Two weeks to the Average High is 60 ๐ผ. Might even start to see some signs of spring at that point. Mostly sunny and 36 degrees in Delmar, NY. There is a west-northwest breeze at 9 mph. ๐. Temperatures will drop below freezing at around 11 pm. โ๏ธ
Not a terrible day, fairly mild I still have the heat off. ๐ May turn it back up later on though and the windows are closed as it’s not expected to be super warm. Certainly nice and sunny. I enjoyed my walk ๐ถ down to the express bus ๐. Riding a coach bus to work today with nice soft seats. ๐บ Riding in comfort for sure.
Today will be sunny ๐, with a high of 50 degrees at 4pm. Three degrees below normal, which is similiar to a typical day around March 29th. Breezy, with a west wind 9 to 14 mph increasing to 15 to 20 mph in the afternoon. Winds could gust as high as 31 mph. The wind will make it feel fairly cold but the sun โ will help.
Continued red flag ๐ฉ conditions as it’s spring, dry and windy. So Pennsylvania rednecks shouldn’t be burning ๐ฅ their paper plates and plastic milk bottles today. Save them for after the rain, get lots of beer and big ol’ bonfire. A year ago, we had light rain in the morning, which became partly cloudy by afternoon. The high last year was 52 degrees. The record high of 79 was set in 1950. 4.3 inches of snow fell back in 2016.โ
The sun will set at 7:25 pm with dusk around 7:53 pm, which is one minute and 8 seconds later than yesterday. ๐ At sunset, look for mostly clear skies ๐ and temperatures around 44 degrees. Breezy, 17 mph breeze โ from the west-northwest. With that wind, probably too cold to go to the park after work. Today will have 12 hours and 53 minutes of daytime, an increase of 2 minutes and 51 seconds over yesterday.
Tonight will be partly cloudy ๐ค, with a low of 22 degrees at 4am. 11 degrees below normal, which is similiar to a typical night around March 7th. Cold but not quite record breaking cold. Northwest wind 10 to 15 mph becoming light after midnight. In 2018, we had mostly clear in the evening, which became partly cloudy by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 24 degrees. The record low of 14 occurred back in 2016. It still can get pretty cold this time of year.
Tomorrow will have a slight chance of rain and snow before 11am, then rain likely. Increasing clouds ๐ง, with a high of 42 degrees at 1pm. 12 degrees below normal, which is similiar to a typical day around March 11th. Light east wind becoming south 6 to 11 mph in the morning. Chance of precipitation is 60%. Little or no snow accumulation expected. A year ago, we had light rain in the morning, which became partly cloudy by afternoon. The high last year was 39 degrees. The record high of 82 was set in 1928. 1.1 inches of snow fell back in 1914.โ
Definitely going to be a cold and wet day tomorrow. ๐ฆ I am not camping, so I don’t mind. Sure, another nice day would be nice, but at least it will reduce the fire danger, provide moisture that with the increasingly mild weather will eventually make the city start to green up a bit. ๐ Yesterday, I went for a walk in Washington Park and there is no signs of the tulips, ๐ทand honestly things looked kind of barren with the snow gone, but things still brown and no leaves on the trees.๐ Honestly, I didn’t expect it to look like spring in the park, but I was hoping maybe to see a few more signs of spring.
Yesterday, I went over to John Wolcott’s house, continued going through his files. ๐ Some of them were kind of interesting, especially the ones about thePryun Library that Erastus Corning and the DOT insisted had to be torn down for the flyover ramp for Interstate 787, even though they could have located it a few feet to the west for minimal costs, and remain within engineering standards. Some of the old dutch documents aren’t much of an interest, but anything involving Mayor Corning is very fascinating.๐ The 1960s were a very interesting time in America.
When I got home, I was pretty tired and the wind was whipping around, ๐ช so I skipped my evening walk. Sure, I was a bad person, but I was quite happy to just lay back in bed. I opened up Facebook, jumped into the swamp, and got so disgusted by what I saw on Facebook, I closed the app. ๐ป I don’t even know why I go on there anymore. Maybe I’ve just become more conservative in recent years, or maybe it’s that my liberal friends have become more obnoxious. I don’t know.
I guess I shouldn’t avoid threatening ideas, but going on Facebook just makes me sick. ๐คขLiterally makes me want to run down to the bathroom and puke out my brains.ย I mean I like looking at the cute pictures of cows and hunting stuff, ๐ and seeing what my old friends from high school are up to, but so much of what is on there now is either advertising or abusively obnoxious political posts.
The weekend forecast continues to improve. ๐ Saturday, a chance of rain before 8am. Partly sunny, with a high near 59. Northwest wind 5 to 8 mph. Chance of precipitation is 30%. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch possible. Sunday, partly sunny, with a high near 61. Maximum dew point of 40 at 1pm. Not a drop of humidity in that air, but that’s to be expected this time of year. Typical average high for the weekend is 54 degrees.
Spring is rapidly approaching, although there is going to be a lot of snow and ice in the mountains, and mud in lower elevations. I think I’m going to do something fun this weekend — maybe a good hike ๐ถand and some fishing on Sunday. ๐ฃ Depending on how nice it is on Saturday morning, I might go for hike on rail trail ๐ although I’m not sure how early it will clear out or how early I’ll be out of bed.๐
As previously noted, there are 2 weeks until Average High is 60 ๐ผ when the sun will be setting at 7:41 pm with dusk at 8:10 pm. On that day in 2018, we had cloudy and temperatures between 47 and 33 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 60 degrees. We hit a record high of 90 back in 1976.
Two weeks from now I’ll probably be on my trip to the Adirondacks or Central NY, although I still haven’t requested the time off.๐ I am on the fence where to go — I kind of would like to go to the Adirondacks and the North Country, but not if there still is a lot of snow and ice to deal with. The alternative would be a mix between Charles Baker and Stoney Pond State Forest, maybe heading south to Balsam Pond, hitting up several trout streams, and more rural rather then mountain country. I mean still have plenty of time to visit the Adirondacks before summer is over. I don’t want to deal with camping with snow and ice.
In four weeks on May 2 the sun will be setting at 7:56 pm,๐ which is 31 minutes and 48 seconds later then today. In 2018 on that day, we had hot, mostly sunny, rain showers and temperatures between 90 and 45 degrees. Last year was the record high. Typically, you have temperatures between 65 and 43 degrees.
While it may not feel like it this week, ๐ทthe truth is much warmer weather is likely just around the corner. Ninty degrees days are not out of the question nor is heat and humidity although I hope things green up before then so there is some shade to enjoy outside by then. And maybe a few weeks without the black flies. ๐
Last night, I got talking to somebody about the plastic bag ban. They were worried about what they would use for trash bags, ๐ once single-use shopping plastic bags were banned. I got thinking about it some more — and pointed out they could wash out the trash cans like people did in the olden days, without any problem. Seems like a simple solution for a silly problem. I don’t get why they always have to have trash bag liners.
Probably when I have my off-grid property, I’ll use animal feed sacks for the kitchen trash that’s going out to the burn barrel (the stuff like wrappers, bottles and packages contaminated by food), and just either use bread bags or wash out the compost container. It’s amazing how many feed bags even small hobby farms end up throwing out. It just seems like there is much too much disposable, single-use plastic out there. ๐No sense paying for something your going to burn, after all.๐ฅ Maybe that’s the future, but I’m still focused on it.
After finding a plastic bag in the Pine Bush ๐ฒ then seeing a bunch more in the trees, I’ve really started to come around on this issue — they really need to go — as they don’t rot in nature without being burnt. Sure, I’m not happy with them charging paper bags, as I don’t always remember to have my reusable bags with me, but I’m also thinking that using a plastic milk crates, might actually be a much easier way to handle groceries. Reusable bags tend to get dirty quickly, and are somewhat flimsy, but if I could stack groceries in a crate that can be washed off, that might work really well. Groceries would be less likely to spill or get damaged when packaged in a plastic create.
Looking ahead, Average High is 60 ๐ผ is in 2 weeks, Pink Moon ๐ is in 2 weeks, 8 PM Sunset ๐ is a month away, Average High is 70 ๐ฎ is in 6 weeks, Summer ๏ธโฑ๏ธ is in 11 weeks, Independence Day ๐บ๐ธ is in 3 months, August ๐ป is in 17 weeks and Last Sunset After 7 PM ๐ is in 26 weeks.
Good morning! Happy Average High is 40 โ๏ธ! As we head into the spring ๐ทthings do warm up at an increasing rate, reaching an average high of 50 in only three and a half weeks. Four weeks to April Fools Day ๐คก. That’s also the first of April and opening day for trout season ๐ฃin case your not aware. My fishing license expires on April 13th, I might try buying it online this year. It would be easier that way. State budget is also due then, jokes on y’all.
Mostly cloudy and 29 degrees in Delmar. โ There is a north-northwest breeze at 9 mph. ๐. After last night’s mini snow storm there are 4 inches of snow on the ground. โ ๏ธThings will start to thaw out at around 10 am. ๐ก๏ธ Not far above freezing but with the sun โand road salt things are already starting to melt a bit.
It snowed last night ๐ but didn’t start until relatively late. โ I don’t care that much as it’s largely melted off the roads at this point. I skipped my evening walk because I figured I got an hour in on my exercise bike ๐ฒ and didn’t think it was necessary at this point. Plus I was tired ๐ด. Dimmed the lights retired to bed before ten.
When I first woke up, I turned the heat ๐ฅ up for a bit. No need for it heat by time the sun โ came up, as things warmed quickly. Expecting a mild day today although not super warm. The south facing windows in my office ๐ข will be nice though with the sun radiating in. Kind of pretty with the fresh snow everywhere, although I’m hoping it’s one of the last.ย Probably not a realistic hope.
Not happy ๐ I moved my truck to the grass ๐พ, as I don’t think we will get much more snow this week but at least my parking spot will be cleared of snow. ๐ ฟ I may want to move it this week so I don’t sink in the soft ground with the warmer March weather (HAH!) ๐although I did leave it locked ๐ in 4×4 mode. I do need to get ketchup and dish soap, so maybe I will go out to the store this week and move the truck. Not sure though. Landlord did plow this morning, I was actually a bit surprised, as there isn’t that much snow. Maybe with the new tenants in the house up front, he’s trying to make a good impression.๐ด
Today will be partly sunny ๐, with a high of 33 degrees at 11am. Seven degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical day around February 10th. At some point the weather will change and it will feel more like May or June rather than February. Northwest wind 9 to 15 mph. A year ago, we had light snow. The high last year was 38 degrees. The record high of 59 was set in 1919. 8.3 inches of snow fell back in 1971.โ
In 1985, Food and Drug Administration approves a blood test for AIDS infection, used since then for screening all blood donations in the United States. ๐In 1917, Jeannette Rankin of Montana becomes the first female member of the United States House of Representatives.๐ And in 1957, S&P 500 stock market index is introduced, replacing the S&P 90.๐
The sun will set at 5:49 pm with dusk around 6:17 pm, which is one minute and 13 seconds later than yesterday. ๐ At sunset, look for partly clear skies ๐ and temperatures around 26 degrees. The wind chill around sunset will be 14. โ๏ธ There will be a west-northwest breeze at 15 mph. Today will have 11 hours and 24 minutes of daytime, an increase of 2 minutes and 52 seconds over yesterday.
Packed up a lunch and dinner ๐ฒ as I figured it’s going to be a long day at work, especially with conference after session. I expect to be at work probably until after sunset ๐ but I’m fine with that, I think the bus will still be running ๐ as I doubt I’ll be at work after 11:30, and quite possibly get home much earlier. โ
Tonight will be partly cloudy ๐ค, with a low of 9 degrees at 6am. 13 degrees below normal. Maximum wind chill around -2 at 6am; West wind 7 to 13 mph. In 2018, we had light snow in the evening, which became cloudy by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 31 degrees. The record low of -12 occurred back in 1948.
Tomorrow will have a slight chance of snow showers after 3pm. Increasing clouds ๐, with a high of 25 degrees at 2pm. 15 degrees below normal. West wind around 8 mph. Chance of precipitation is 20%. A year ago, we had light snow. The high last year was 38 degrees. The record high of 71 was set in 1964. 8.6 inches of snow fell back in 1917.โ
Yesterday, I hike the rail trail then went over John Wolcott’s house. ๐ Spent several hours sorting through files, trying to figure out what the old dutch and other documents were all about. I prefer to go over on the weekends, at least while I’m still in town, as it’s more productive to spend a few hours rather then just an hour or two, after work. I’ll have to see though once the nicer weather comes, maybe I can go after work with more sun in the afternoon. The rail trail was nice ๐ although a bit icy in parts, certainly not snow free. Sat down by the Normans Kill Falls for a while, watching the river. Got a lot of steps in yesterday, for sure.
I put a set of ((parentheses)) around the end of the weekend by watching a video ๐น about the history of LISP. What an odd but useful old computer ๐ป language for sure. Made the half hour on the exercise bike pass by quickly. โณI also watched more of the How Farms Work channel update video I downloaded. I figured I am burning calories, plus learning about a lot of things I don’t know that much.๐The best part about pre-downloading the videos, is I don’t have to watch the commercials for all the commercial products, although I do try to go back to the channels that I like and click the like button, and sometimes run the ads in the background when I’m online so they get their credits and views.๐ฒ
Reinforced the button โญ on my pants ๐. While that’s a good thing, as they were starting to get loose, it wasn’t the pair I intended to wear today. I wanted to fix it that pair, so it was reinforced. After spending so much time with the needle and thread, ๐งต it almost made me late to the bus.๐ But I ended up making it time, so that’s what’s important. I also ordered some more dress pants and another blazer, so I should look sharp, despite the many session days.๐ดI hate having to ration dress pants or wear the ones that don’t fit well. I like being as comfortable as possible at work. I probably should at some point get my jacket dry cleaned, maybe once I get my new one.
Finally took the trash out. ๐ It realized it had been inside for a couple of weeks, and I was starting to realize it started to smelled a bit. As I don’t have trash pick up, have a container for the compost, buy in bulk, aggressively recycle and in the summer burn the burnables while camping, ๐ฅ I sometimes forget about taking out the trash while cleaning. It’s actually amazing how little trash I have — three or four weeks of trash easily fit in a single shopping bag. Recycling, especially with those milk bottles takes up a fair bit more space. I wish they had returnables still at Stewarts. At some point, I’ll want to go to the transfer station with the recycling but I usually like to put that off until the end of winter. Much easier in the summer months, when I’m camping and have a fire every day.โป I do find myself always acquiring so many disposable shopping bags, I really should buy some reusable bags. But then again, that might be the law soon. it’s not such a big deal in the summer when I’m camping, as they get used up then, but it’s a annoying how fast they multiply around home in the winter and have to be taken back to the store.
Got the 5 volt โก linear regulators I ordered from China in the mail โ.ย I am planning to use these for powering the small electronic projects powered my truck, namely the smart-relay I am building and the GPS logger I built last year.๐ I used the built-in regulator for an Arduino to power the first version of the GPS logger, but I ended up burning-out the voltage regulator due to the relatively high voltage the truck’s alternator puts out, and the current draw by the GPS and the SD card reader. A linear regulator isn’t ideal for minimizing current draw, but when the truck is running, it doesn’t really matter, as we are only talking a few dozen milliamps. I am still now waiting on the relays I bought from China to do the switching for the smart relay, but I will continue to test and build things on my breadboard.
Pay week this week, which is good, because money is always tight. ๐ฐ My budget is always pretty small, although I try to save money wherever I can — but traveling and camping season is coming soon. Plus I owe the government a shit ton of money come tax day, and my ever escalating truck insurance bill is due the end of the month. It’s my fault, I decided to increase my insurance coverage to protect myself in case I were to get into serious crash, and burned some little child or hit the side of a house. I didn’t think that extra coverage was that much, but it’s kind of added up. I always try to be safe driver, but you never know what shit could happen on the road.๐
Right now, a split verdict on the weekend. ๐ Saturday, mostly sunny, with a high near 36. Sunday, a chance of rain and snow. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 39. Chance of precipitation is 40%. Typical average high for the weekend is 41 degrees. At least Saturday sounds nice but continued cold next weekend. โ Maybe the following week we will get seasonable temperatures? ๐ธ I’m still hoping to get out for a late winter camping trip soon, but a lot depends on how busy I’m with work and everything else going on in my life. ๐ Getting rid of the snow would help too. I don’t drink beer (much) anymore, but I certainly wouldn’t mind a cold one in the wilderness.๐บ
