Not the nicest autumn weekend ever πŸ‚

That said it’s officially autumn however you want to slice it. Summer is just history and in a day or two it will be more night than day. My mind is totally on West Virginia and the Mountain Laurel of Canaan Heights not that I’ve even taken off those days yet. Or even fully planned a vacation.

Good morning! Happy Saturday. Finally the Nature Bus 🚍 Day! Mostly cloudy and 50 degrees at the Delmar, NY. ☁ Calm wind. The skies will clear Monday around 5 am.

It’s kind of silly how much I love the Nature Bus 😍 as I could drive to Thacher Park myself and I have a parks pass for parking πŸ…Ώ but it’s fun as it enforces a schedule and doesn’t cost anything. πŸ’΅ Not going to be a really nice day but I don’t expect it to be a complete soaker either. Going to ride trail for a while 🚡 then probably hammock before catching the 3:30 back home. If it becomes a soaker there are pavilions and the Discovery Center with the nice porch and wifi to shelter under.

Today will have a slight chance of showers after 2pm. Cloudy 🌦, with a high of 63 degrees at 3pm. Nine degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical day around October 12th. Maximum dew point of 50 at 9am. Calm wind becoming northeast 5 to 7 mph in the morning. Chance of precipitation is 20%. A year ago, we had partly cloudy skies in the morning with some clearing in the afternoon. The high last year was 59 degrees. The record high of 97 was set in 1895.

This morning I was up and cooking 🍳 around five like I often do. Two big baguettes πŸ₯– and chicken and veggies roasting down in the oven. Up top was onion, garlic, and zucchini cooking to be cooked with eggs πŸ₯š and fresh spinach before it goes bad. Used up the last two fresh tomotoes that I had. Nevertheless a good start to the morning. Made some walnut butter πŸ₯œ to spread on the fresh bread – so yummy πŸ˜‹. Then I did morning walk 🚢. I didn’t sleep great but I have been getting to bed early as it gets dark early.

Solar noon 🌞 is at 12:49 pm with sun having an altitude of 47.4Β° from the due south horizon (-23.4Β° vs. 6/21). A six foot person will cast a 5.5 foot shadow today compared to 2.2 feet on the first day of summer. The golden hour πŸ… starts at 6:16 pm with the sun in the west (265Β°). πŸ“Έ The sunset is in the west (271Β°) with the sun dropping below the horizon at 6:53 pm after setting for 2 minutes and 53 seconds with dusk around 7:19 pm, which is one minute and 47 seconds earlier than yesterday. πŸŒ‡ At dusk you’ll see the Waxing Gibbous πŸŒ” Moon in the south (170Β°) at an altitude of 19Β° from the horizon, 228,989 miles away. πŸš€ The best time to look at the stars is after 7:54 pm. At sunset, look for rain 🌧 and temperatures around 62 degrees. The dew point will be 50 degrees. There will be a northeast breeze at 7 mph. Tomorrow will have 12 hours and 7 minutes of daytime, a decrease of 2 minutes and 52 seconds over today.

I think the evening will end in rain β˜”. But I have a delicious meal in the fridge ready to go 🍴 and I’ll probably work on the blog re-write. I want to phase in the new data structure for the blog this coming week and start up the ads to cover hosting costs. πŸ–₯ And then lights out πŸ’‘ early tonight again.

Tonight will have a chance of showers, mainly before 2am. Cloudy 🌧, with a low of 53 degrees at 5am. Four degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical night around September 16th. Maximum dew point of 50 at 6pm. North wind around 6 mph. Chance of precipitation is 40%. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch possible. In 2022, we had mostly clear skies in the evening, which became mostly clear by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 41 degrees. The record low of 27 occurred back in 1963.

My blog got approved for Google Ad Sense. 🀬 I don’t love advertising and I’m going to use sparingly, but my hope is to generate about $30 a month from advertising primarily from the map pages, but also some of the archives and maybe the main feed but not right up top. I figure if I can make an average of $30 a month, a third will go to the tax man, then the $20 will cover hosting costs and maybe even cover a bus fare or something like that. I have the code ready to add the advertising to the blog, I am manually placing ads, not in the best positions but in ways that aren’t so obnoxious but do earn a bit in revenue, based on the high number of page views I get from my maps, especially in the summer. πŸ—Ί I figure it’s an incentive to get off my ass and make up more maps.

Looking ahead, there are 6 weeks until Daylight Savings Time Ends πŸ•’ when the sun will be setting at 5:46 pm with dusk at 6:14 pm. On that day in 2022, we had sunny, warm and temperatures between 71 and 46 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 54 degrees. We hit a record high of 76 back in 1994. Those days will be here before you know it.

Some Parts of the Rail Trail Follow Quite Closely to NY 30

A Rainy Hump Day β˜”

It looks like it’s going to be a wet one for at least a few more hours and then some clearing. I’m not moving fast, I stayed up too late after doing some cleaning in the kitchen putting away clothes and fine tuning the indexing on my bike after really greasing up the gears, leading to some good smooth shifting again.

Good morning! What day is it? A wet one, of course. Rain and 64 degrees at the Elm Ave Park and Ride. β˜” Calm wind. The dew point is 64 degrees. The skies will clear around 8 pm.

I’m really not in the groove this morning, moving slowly but surely though the eggs and spinach 🍳 are helping a bit. I didn’t catch the earlier express bus 🚍 downtown, so I can do some extra steps in the Plaza but maybe not as many as I should before work but I’ll get off my butt and certainly do the stairs up to the 18th floor.

Totally ignored the doctors advice β˜• and had the extra cup of coffee this morning. πŸ§‘β€βš•οΈAnd hot peppers with the eggs so I’ll probably have to piss extra but whatever I’ll be in the office and I’m not taking my bike to work. 🚳I thought about putting the bike on the bus but I figured between the rain and riding on the front of the bus down the expressway in the rain my grease job would be for naught by the afternoon commute. Traffic will be heavy at rush hour and I won’t be able to get exercise while riding the bus 🚍 home but I can walk 🚢 after getting home. Forgot to get the salmon out of the freezer before work 🐠 so I’ll have to plan something else. Maybe finish off the sweet corn 🌽 and I guess I can defrost some chicken in the microwave if I’m really looking for something warm for dinner. Or maybe just heat up some of soup or rice-lentils I have in the fridge. πŸ€·β€β™‚οΈ

Today will have showers, with thunderstorms also possible after 2pm. 🌦 High of 73 degrees at 3pm. Three degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical day around September 19th. The high last year was 79 degrees. The record high of 92 was set in 1948.

Solar noon 🌞 is at 12:52 pm with sun having an altitude of 51.3Β° from the due south horizon (-19.6Β° vs. 6/21). A six foot person will cast a 4.8 foot shadow today compared to 2.2 feet on the first day of summer. The golden hour πŸ… starts at 6:34 pm with the sun in the west (270Β°). πŸ“Έ The sunset is in the west (276Β°) with the sun dropping below the horizon at 7:11 pm after setting for 2 minutes and 55 seconds with dusk around 7:37 pm, which is one minute and 46 seconds earlier than yesterday. πŸŒ‡ The best time to look at the stars is after 8:13 pm. At sunset, look for partly cloudy skies πŸŒƒ and temperatures around 67 degrees. The dew point will be 62 degrees. There will be a calm wind. Today will have 12 hours and 39 minutes of daytime, a decrease of 2 minutes and 50 seconds over yesterday.

I was thinking πŸ’ today would be the day to go to Walmart πŸ›’ and get all the things on my list πŸ“ƒ that Hannaford didn’t have at a good price, but I might wait until tomorrow as I want to go for an evening walk and then I can get fresh spinach, berries or anything else I might want. I think it will be warm enough tomorrow to wear shorts to work but I want to try on 34×32 pants πŸ‘– for l size before I order a few more pair online. I’m going to one of these days put most of my XXL clothes into the attic, as they really don’t fit well anymore and they really look like when I wear them I’m starving and just got out of a concentration camp. Plus between the too large and good fitting clothes, I really have too many to put in my dresser.

Tonight will be partly cloudy πŸŒƒ , with a low of 53 degrees at 5am. Typical for tonight. Maximum dew point of 62 at 6pm. Calm wind. In 2022, we had mostly clear skies in the evening, which became cloudy by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 57 degrees. The record low of 32 occurred back in 1963.

Sunday, mostly sunny, with a high near 76. Maximum dew point of 56 at 12pm. Typical average high for the weekend is 75 degrees.

Looking ahead but not necessarily forward, there are 2 weeks until More Night then Day 🌌 when the sun will be setting at 6:46 pm with dusk at 7:12 pm. I guess it means more time by the campfire in the evening. πŸ”₯ On that day in 2022, we had partly cloudy, rain showers and temperatures between 68 and 50 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 70 degrees. We hit a record high of 89 back in 2017.

Indian Ladder Farms

Foggy 🌁 but a bit cooler this morning for a while

Company picnic day, I’m hoping for not a washout. Going to be hot but it should be relatively cool down by the river, in the shade.

Good morning! Happy Thursday. Fog 🌫 nd 69 degrees in Delmar, NY. Calm wind. The dew point is 67 degrees. The muggy weather ends Wednesday around noontime. πŸ˜“ Won’t be quite as hot for the weekend but still very muggy. I guess the mildew needs one more chance to attack the walls in my apartment.

Kiddos are heading back to school 🚸 and while I tried to get out early for the walk 🚢 it was kind of dark out and I wanted to start the pot of beans to bring to the picnic along with the chickpeas I had soaking and now are boiling for hummus this weekend. πŸ§‘β€πŸ³ I’m working from home this morning and then I’ll get sweet corn 🌽 at Stanton’s around noon time before heading to the picnic. 🧺 I might also get some canteloupe as I want some more good things to have to eat at the picnic and it’s inexpensive and what doesn’t go at the picnic I can bring home and eat. 🍈 I’m just worried about having enough good and healthy options at the picnic.

Today will have a chance of showers and thunderstorms, mainly after 3pm. Some of the storms could produce gusty winds. β›ˆοΈ After the fog burns off, mostly sunny and hot β˜€οΈ, with a high of 92 degrees at 4pm. 14 degrees above normal. Maximum dew point of 72 at 11am. Heat index values as high as 99. Calm wind becoming south 5 to 8 mph in the afternoon. Chance of precipitation is 30%. New rainfall amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms. A year ago, we had partly cloudy skies in the morning with some clearing in the afternoon. It was somewhat humid. The high last year was 72 degrees. The record high of 96 was set in 1945.

It should be a nice day but hot. 😰 That said, the river breeze will be nice. I’m going up to visit and spend some time with Linda this evening – John Wolcott’s wife – as she has some old clothes for me to look at and I’m sure it’s tough with her husband’s passing. A lot of her old friends came to visit I’m sure for John and I don’t want her to feel totally cut off though the facility she lives in has a lot of good programs but it must be lonely. πŸ§“πŸ» Plus she has air conditioning there and by the time I get home it will be much cooler.

Solar noon 🌞 is at 12:55 pm with sun having an altitude of 53.5Β° from the due south horizon (-17.3Β° vs. 6/21). A six foot person will cast a 4.4 foot shadow today compared to 2.2 feet on the first day of summer. The golden hour πŸ… starts at 6:44 pm with the sun in the west (273Β°). πŸ“Έ The sunset is in the west (279Β°) with the sun dropping below the horizon at 7:22 pm after setting for 2 minutes and 56 seconds with dusk around 7:48 pm, which is one minute and 44 seconds earlier than yesterday. πŸŒ‡ The best time to look at the stars is after 8:25 pm. At sunset, look for rain 🌧 and thunderstorms 🌩 and temperatures around 80 degrees. The dew point will be 70 degrees. There will be a southeast breeze at 7 mph. Tomorrow will have 12 hours and 53 minutes of daytime, a decrease of 2 minutes and 50 seconds over today.

Yesterday I reached out to my web hosting provider πŸ•Έto drop the nycowboy.org domain which I haven’t used for years but I couldn’t delete myself as it was the primary hosting domain. But now I can drop it and won’t need to pay for it’s renewal come late October. I decided to renew my web host but it’s gotten expensive with inflation but in the grand scheme of things it’s not that expensive.

Tonight will have showers and thunderstorms likely, mainly before midnight. Some of the storms could produce gusty winds. Mostly cloudy β›ˆοΈ , with a low of 68 degrees at 4am. 12 degrees above normal. Maximum dew point of 71 at 6pm. Southeast wind around 6 mph becoming southwest in the evening. Chance of precipitation is 60%. New rainfall amounts between a quarter and half of an inch possible. In 2022, we had mostly clear skies in the evening, which became cloudy by the early hours of the morning. It was somewhat humid. It got down to 58 degrees. The record low of 34 occurred back in 1978.

Last night I decided to cook up the asparagus πŸͺ΄ I got for camping πŸ• but didn’t use up and was starting to wilt. I cooked it up with peppers, pearl onions and using a can of mackerel 🐠 which turned out quite good. I tried to make chickpea flour with my food processor this morning but I couldn’t grind the dry chickpeas enough to create a fine flour. But I used it as a crust with the eggs this morning with a layer of pulverized tomatoes πŸ…, eggs 🍳, peppers, onions, garlic and parmesan cheese. Not too bad when finished off in the broiler.

Still quite unstable for the weekend. β›ˆοΈ Saturday, a chance of showers and thunderstorms, then showers likely and possibly a thunderstorm after 2pm. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 82. South wind around 6 mph. Chance of precipitation is 70%. New rainfall amounts between a quarter and half of an inch possible. Maximum dew point of 71 at 10am. Sunday, showers, mainly after 2pm. High near 78. Chance of precipitation is 90%. Maximum dew point of 71 at 12pm. Typical average high for the weekend is 77 degrees.

Still hoping to get to Thacher Park this weekend on the Nature Bus 🚍. And spend the day riding, assuming it’s not too wet. And reading πŸ“–, relaxing in the hammock. It’s free and fun which is good with do many expenses lately. 🚡 Sunday I hope to visit mom and dad, assuming they’re up for that.

Happy Labor Day πŸ§‘β€πŸ

It’s a nice morning after that thunderstorm came through earlier this morning. Woke me up, needed to run to the bucket shitter, started the coffee got a few more minutes of shut eye then it was breakfast started by frying onions up, then spinach, tomatoes and garlic in the food processor then eggs. Wanted to make an omelet but things were runnier then expected so it became scrambled eggs. It’s been a nice weekend but like always too short.

Good morning on this Labor Day! Partly sunny 🌞 and 61 degrees at the Perkins Clearing. Calm wind. The dew point is 60 degrees.

Already starting to take down an organize camp β›Ί but I’m waiting for more sun to take down the screen tent πŸŽͺ and other gear like the flags. Also want to cook up a good lunch, I guess I could do that in advance and bring it along on the trail but first some hammock time.

Labor Day will be mostly sunny 🌞, with a high of 83 degrees at 4pm. Four degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical day around August 13th. Maximum dew point of 63 at 11am. Calm wind becoming west around 6 mph in the afternoon. A year ago, we had mostly sunny skies in the morning with a few breaks of sun the afternoon. It was sticky. The high last year was 87 degrees. The record high of 97 was set in 1929.

Today I am heading down to Spectulator πŸ›Ά, I’m not sure if I will kayak the Sacandaga River and swim in the beach πŸ– first or do a bike ride 🚡 up through the Long Level past Elm Lake in the Spectulator Tree Farm. Ultimately I want to end the day at the Spectulator Creamery which hopefully won’t be as packed as on Saturday and it much warmer. Then sometime before six o’clock when I head home I’m thinking of parking πŸ…Ώ at the lower Old Route 8B bridge πŸŒ‰ and riding up along the old road on Blackie, visiting Austin Falls and points along there. Alternatively I could go to Tribes Hill and ride some of the Canalway Trail though I don’t think it’s a good day to do that with the heat which will be worse in the valley. 😰 Maybe come the autumn.

Solar noon 🌞 is at 12:58 pm with sun having an altitude of 53.7Β° from the due south horizon (-16.2Β° vs. 6/21). A six foot person will cast a 4.4 foot shadow today compared to 2.2 feet on the first day of summer. The golden hour πŸ… starts at 6:52 pm with the sun in the west (274Β°). πŸ“Έ The sunset is in the west (281Β°) with the sun dropping below the horizon at 7:30 pm after setting for 2 minutes and 59 seconds with dusk around 7:57 pm, which is one minute and 47 seconds earlier than yesterday. πŸŒ‡ The best time to look at the stars is after 8:35 pm. At sunset, look for partly clear skies πŸŒ„ and temperatures around 77 degrees. The dew point will be 64 degrees. There will be a west-northwest breeze at 5 mph. Today will have 13 hours and 6 minutes of daytime, a decrease of 2 minutes and 54 seconds over yesterday.

Tonight will have patchy fog after 1am. Otherwise, partly cloudy πŸŒƒ, with a low of 58 degrees at 6am. One degree above normal, which is similar to a typical night around September 2nd. Maximum dew point of 65 at 8pm. Light north wind. In 2022, we had light rain. It was somewhat humid. It got down to 59 degrees. The record low of 37 occurred back in 1974.

After floating for a few hours on a rubber truck tube β• at the swimming hole on Perkins Clearing Road at Jessup River, πŸŠβ€β™‚οΈ rode about 20 miles round trip from the swimming hole to the Spruce Lake Parking Area at the wilderness border. 🚡 It’s a nice ride but a surprising climb to the Spruce Lake parking area. 😰Good scenery, would have visited Spruce Lake if it wasn’t six o’clock and didn’t want to ride back in the dark.πŸŒ„ Ironically I made good time back on the return trip, I flew down the down hill and was back only a few minutes after seven.

Wish I had gotten an earlier start spent too much time chewing over my day plans then I fell asleep in the hammock 😴 and made a good lunch of onions, garlic, zucchini, tomatoes and chicken. Dinner was red lentil pancakes topped with cottage cheese with avocado and dessert was watermelon. 🍳 πŸ₯‘ πŸ₯ž

Much cooler next weekend, rain showers but some sun. 🌦️ Really almost autumn like. Saturday, showers likely and possibly a thunderstorm. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 72. Chance of precipitation is 60%. Maximum dew point of 63 at 9am. Sunday, a chance of showers. Partly sunny, with a high near 69. Chance of precipitation is 30%. Maximum dew point of 58 at 8am. Typical average high for the weekend is 77 degrees.

Might be a good weekend to go to Thacher Park 🏞 on the Nature Bus 🚍 bright and early, pack a lunch with my mountain bike 🚡 and ride all day, visit Thompsons Lake and even poke around many of the roads up that way. Sunday who knows, could just be a quiet day then go out and see the folks as it’s been two weeks now.

Looking ahead, next Monday is September 11th πŸ‡ΊπŸ‡Έ when the sun will be setting at 7:17 pm with dusk at 7:44 pm. On that day in 2022, we had mostly cloudy, rain showers and temperatures between 74 and 64 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 76 degrees. We hit a record high of 98 back in 1931. Can you believe the terrorist attacks were 22 years ago? I was a freshman back in college then. πŸŽ“ That said, I don’t ever want to go back to those days, much less go back to a formal classroom again.

Summer Stream and Mitchells Pond Mountain Behind It

Not sure what to do today πŸ’

Going to be a great day but I’m feeling lazy. I could go for a bike ride down through Perkins Clearing or I could go for a paddle on Indian Lake. Maybe both. But the hammock and a good book is nice too. Or sit and stream a video from the hammock. I don’t know!

Good morning! Happy Sunday. Mostly sunny β˜€ and 69 degrees at the Perkins Clearing. There is a west breeze at 5 mph. πŸƒ. The dew point is 59 degrees.

So many options but first the morning to enjoy. πŸŒ… Oatmeal banana 🍌 pancakes πŸ₯ž milled perfectly πŸ‘Œ in the food processor. It worked fine with the inverter. Lazy start to the day in the hammock while I chew over my plans for the day. Going to be a hot one especially at this campsite that’s fairly high elevation. I’m leaning towards kayaking πŸ›Ά later on this afternoon but I’m not set in stone. Floating in the Jessup River would be fun too. Or Indian Lake. I’m just worried the lake will be choppy with that breeze.

Today will be sunny 🌞, with a high of 80 degrees at 4pm. One degree above normal, which is similar to a typical day around August 31st. Maximum dew point of 61 at 2pm. West wind 5 to 8 mph. A year ago, we had mostly sunny skies. The high last year was 83 degrees. The record high of 100 was set in 1953.

Soaked red lentils πŸ₯ž will try again with more water πŸ’¦ to make wraps rather than pancakes with the lentils. I’ve had trouble getting them thin enough after they cook but they are so delicious and rich in stomach filling protein. πŸ˜‹ There not the kind of thing you’d want with a sweet meal but with salt in the batter they are remarkably tasty. Then chicken πŸ” with zucchini and lemon spice, garlic and onions should be so delicious. Since eating healthier my camp meals 🍴 taste so much better. Food really is the key to a good life. Been reading a lot of cookbooks and things on food science and I’m learning an awful lot of interesting things. Plus this time of year the farm markets are packed with good eats. πŸ† Tonight I plan to roast egg plant over the fire πŸ”₯.

Solar noon 🌞 is at 12:58 pm with sun having an altitude of 54.1Β° from the due south horizon (-15.8Β° vs. 6/21). At sunset, look for mostly clear skies πŸŒ„ and temperatures around 74 degrees. The dew point will be 61 degrees. There will be a west breeze at 6 mph. Today will have 13 hours and 9 minutes of daytime, a decrease of 2 minutes and 52 seconds over yesterday.

Last night watched the fire tower lighting in Spectulator and explored the US 66 village that was lit up after dark. πŸ—Ό Tried to spot Snowy Mountain off NY 30 Tonight lit up – may have hard to tell with headlights and my eyes mostly on the road watching for deer. But Makotis lighting in Spectulator was fun, big crowd there. Jessup River Road has been recently patched, it’s not to bad either on the bicycle 🚲 or driving it even after dark.

Tonight will be partly cloudy 🌀, with a low of 58 degrees at 4am. One degree above normal, which is similar to a typical night around September 2nd. Maximum dew point of 61 at 6pm. West wind around 5 mph becoming calm in the evening. In 2022, we had mostly clear skies in the evening, which became mostly clear by the early hours of the morning. It became sticky as the night progressed. It got down to 61 degrees. The record low of 37 occurred back in 1946.

Stayed up to midnight last night πŸŒ• under the moonlight which was not quite full but still very bright. By midnight things were covered with moonlight. 🎢 Some music and podcasts it was a nice relaxing evening πŸŒƒ.

As previously noted, next Sunday is 6:30 Sunrise πŸŒ‡ when the sun will be setting at 7:19 pm with dusk at 7:46 pm. Days are getting short quickly. Not really any time left for an evening bike ride but I can still walk 🚢 then g et to bed early. On that day in 2022, we had mostly sunny, patches of fog and temperatures between 83 and 56 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 77 degrees. We hit a record high of 96 back in 1931.

Marshy End of Indian Lake

I find it hard to believe when the radio says, Good Morning it’s Saturday, September 2nd πŸ“»

It was a beautiful sunrise but I didn’t capture any photos though I’ll have a chance in future mornings I expect based on the forecast. Another cool, basically perfect autumn day ahead.

Good morning! Happy Saturday on this Labor Day πŸ§‘β€πŸ weekend! Partly sunny and 48 degrees at the Perkins Clearing. There is a southwest breeze at 5 mph. πŸƒ.

I still can’t believe it’s Labor Day Weekend πŸŒ… but it’s amazing weather all weekend. Need to maximize it but first eggs for breakfast 🍳 then a ride down to Hatch Brook Falls 🚲 and then lunch. In the afternoon into the evening I’m thinking πŸ’ of going up to Spectulator to see the fire tower lighting, maybe some kayaking πŸ›Ά and then watch the sun set over Lake Pleasant. πŸ“– Plus some time to do some reading.

Today will be mostly sunny 🌞, with a high of 73 degrees at 3pm. Six degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical day around September 19th. Maximum dew point of 55 at 5pm. Southwest wind 5 to 10 mph. A year ago, we had mostly sunny skies. The high last year was 80 degrees. The record high of 100 was set in 1953.

Had a nice fire πŸ”₯ last night but didn’t stay up super late. ✨ It was a starry night until the full πŸŒ• moon filled the sky with moon light. The nights are so much longer now come September, nine o’clock seems so much later. Where did summer go so quickly I keep asking myself?

At sunset, look for partly cloudy skies πŸŒƒ and temperatures around 67 degrees. The dew point will be 56 degrees. There will be a west-southwest breeze at 9 mph. Gray Evening at the Marsh

It was the best summer of my life ☺

That was the thought on my mind as I drove north to the Adirondacks to the usual campsite that I get here early on the Friday before Labor Day Weekend on Hardwood Hill to camp at. Being forty I’m much happier than ever before, some of its my diet, my professional success but I also just feel so much more confident in who I am even as I watch the world go further to shit. Absolutely beautiful day for sure.

Happy Labor Day Weekend! β›Ί Mostly clear and 70 degrees at the Perkins Clearing. There is a southwest breeze at 5 mph. πŸƒ. The dew point is 51 degrees.

Got up to camp β›Ί on Hardwood Hill, technically the hill next to it a little after ten and got the campsite I’ve been camping at each Labor Day Weekend πŸ‡ΊπŸ‡Έ since I think 2017 when I stopped here to overnight on my way to Moose River Plains and ended up deciding I really liked it and it was even more perfect πŸ‘Œ once remote work became a thing. No remote work this time but I did enjoy a nice nap in the sun β˜€ after setting up camp and having rice and squash for a late lunch. 😴 Then in the evening I rode down to Perkins Clearing and Jessup River, almost down to Sled Harbor – actually past the Miami River and also past campsite 9 to the swamp in the other direction. 🚲 Hardwood Hill is tough to bike up, I ended up just walking my bicycle up part of it.

Tonight will be mostly clear and moonlit πŸŒƒ, with a low of 45 degrees at 4am. 13 degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical night around October 4th. Southwest wind around 5 mph becoming calm in the evening. Always cool in the Adirondacks. Good night for sitting by the fire with the hoodie on. In 2022, we had mostly clear skies in the evening, which became mostly clear by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 48 degrees. The record low of 38 occurred back in 2017. It is September after all.

As I slept for a while this afternoon 😴 going to try to stay up late, though in my experience that’s easier said than done but the moonlight will help along with a good podcast. Thinking tomorrow of staying up late to see the lit up fire towers πŸ—Ό, maybe after watching the sunset πŸŒ‡ at Lake Pleasant and the celebration there, get ice cream 🍦then drive past Mason Lake to see Snowy Mountain lit up. Just an idea πŸ’‘ for tomorrow. Not set in stone.

Tonight will have a Waining Gibbous πŸŒ– Moon with 95% illuminated. The moon will rise at 8:39 pm. The Harvest 🌽 Moon is on Saturday, September 16. The darkest hour is at 12:59 am, followed by dawn at 5:52 am, and sun starting to rise at 6:22 am in the east-northeast (78Β°) and last for 3 minutes Sunrise is one minute and 7 seconds later than yesterday. πŸŒ„ The golden hour ends at 7:00 am with sun in the east (84Β°). Tonight will have 10 hours and 45 minutes of darkness, an increase of 2 minutes and 52 seconds over last night.

It always seems the early sunset πŸŒ‡ happens so quickly. I was out riding this evening 🚡 and knew I had to turn back a little after 7:30 pm knowing that it would get dark early. Always happens this way come September.

Tomorrow will be mostly sunny 🌞, with a high of 73 degrees at 3pm. Six degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical day around September 19th. Maximum dew point of 54 at 10am. Southwest wind 5 to 10 mph. A year ago, we had cloudy skies in the morning with more sun in the afternoon. The high last year was 80 degrees. The record high of 100 was set in 1953.

Cooler than I expected πŸ‚ but then it’s September and I’m in the Adirondacks. I had thought about paddling Indian Lake or Lewey Lake and doing a night hike up Watch Hill to see Snowy Mountain lit up but that would be a very late night by the time I was back to camp. Those lakes might be choppy with the wind too. Maybe an evening in Spectulator would be better after an afternoon paddling the Sacandaga River down to the Kunjamunk πŸ›Ά then a bike ride along NY 8 over to Lake Pleasant.

In four weeks on September 29 the sun will be setting in the west (268Β°) at 6:44 pm,πŸŒ„ which is 50 minutes and 46 seconds earlier then today. In 2022 on that day, we had partly sunny and temperatures between 62 and 46 degrees. Typically, you have temperatures between 69 and 47 degrees. The record high of 86 degrees was set back in 1921.

Looking ahead, Autumn πŸ‚ is in 3 weeks, October πŸŽƒ is a month away, Average High is 55 πŸ‚ is in 2 months, November πŸ₯§ is in 2 months, Buy Nothing Day πŸ›οΈ is in 12 weeks, December πŸŽ„ is in 3 months, Bill of Rights Day πŸ“œ is in 15 weeks and Days are Getting Longer β˜€οΈ is in 16 weeks.

Soon summer will be a memory
