Nostgolia on this Election Day 2023 โ˜•๐Ÿ™ˆ๐Ÿ—ณ๏ธ

This year I’m glad I’m not involved in any elections or doing anything political. Just sipping my coffee watching the sun rise remembering the days gone by but glad I’m not at all rushed this morning.

Good morning! Happy Election Day 2023. Partly cloudy โ›… and 51 degrees at the Stoney Pond State Forest. โ˜” There is a west-southwest breeze at 15 mph. ๐Ÿƒ. The dew point is 47 degrees. I can smell the manure somebody’s spreading this morning ๐Ÿ’ฉ it’s November in Madison County and the field work is soon to be done for the season. ๐Ÿšœ They might have snow as soon as midweek.

Turned out to be a much nicer morning then expected. โ˜• I knew it was going to be a great day when I awoke, saw the clear night skies ๐ŸŒœand the moon. Had a nice hardy breakfast of eggs ๐Ÿณ with lots of vegetables and onions ๐Ÿง… that I got at Aldi’a yesterday in Cazenovia. While yesterday was cold, damp and gray at times it was still a good day with lots of riding ๐Ÿšฒ and making the most of my day off. A lot has changed in this world over the past few years but mornings are still quite beautiful and the coffee is good.

Glad I’m not involved in any elections this year ๐Ÿ—ณ but there were many hard fought ones out of Bill Magees auction house ๐Ÿ—๏ธ ๐Ÿถ๐Ÿบjust down the road. Been half a decade now, I saw the bridge in Cazenovia they renamed after him. It was sad he lost five years ago, but during that general election cycle wasn’t my race. ๐Ÿง‘โ€๐ŸŒพ Truth is winning these rural districts is almost impossible with the democratic party becoming mostly an urban issues party with gun ๐Ÿ”ซ control one of their top priorities. I can understand why people vote the way they do nowadays out in the country. ๐Ÿšœ It’s not just Trump. Both parties have become more extreme but the Republicans have really locked up the rural areas nowadays. I have a feeling that Senator Joe Manchin of West Virginia and Senator John Tester of Montana are going to loose in 2024, especially if the GOP runs a stronger presidential candidate then felon Donald Trump. โณ Time moves on. Democrats though really have locked up the suburbs, especially the older ones and professional class. ๐Ÿ•ด๐Ÿป

Today will have showers likely, mainly between 10am and 1pm. Mostly cloudy, with a temperature falling to around 43 by 5pm. ๐ŸŒฆ๏ธ Breezy, with a west wind 15 to 20 mph, with gusts as high as 32 mph. Chance of precipitation is 60%. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch possible. A year ago, we had mostly sunny skies in the morning with sunny skies in the afternoon. The high last year was 69 degrees. The record high of 75 was set in 1938. 4.5 inches of snow fell back in 1886.โ„

I’m not sure how long it will be nice, clouds are already pushing in. ๐ŸŒฅ I don’t want to deal with wet camping gear ๐Ÿ• so I’m slowly but surely taking things down. I don’t have solid plans for today but I think ๐Ÿค” I’ll just go for a walk ๐Ÿšถ around Stoney Pond then head home and get unpacked. ๐Ÿ‘ช Planning to go see my family this afternoon it’s been three 3โƒฃ weeks as I’ve been out of town ๐ŸŒฒ on various trips. Despite yesterday being cold and dreary especially midday it was a great trip.

Solar noon ๐ŸŒž is at 11:47 am with sun having an altitude of 30.9ยฐ from the due south horizon (-39.6ยฐ vs. 6/21). A six foot person will cast a 10 foot shadow today compared to 2.2 feet on the first day of summer. The golden hour ๐Ÿ… starts at 4:08 pm with the sun in the west-southwest (241ยฐ). ๐Ÿ“ธ The sunset is in the west-southwest (249ยฐ) with the sun dropping below the horizon at 4:50 pm after setting for 3 minutes and 8 seconds with dusk around 5:18 pm, which is one minute and 10 seconds earlier than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ‡ The best time to look at the stars is after 5:53 pm. At sunset, look for rain ๐ŸŒง and temperatures around 44 degrees. Breezy, 20 mph breeze โ›… from the west-northwest with gusts up to 32mph. Today will have 10 hours and 6 minutes of daytime, a decrease of 2 minutes and 26 seconds over yesterday.

Yesterday I rode the South Trail from outside of Cazenovia to New Woodstock. ๐Ÿšต Nice ride though best on a mountain bike as some parts of the trail are a bit rough with roots and gravel. Pungent with the cow poop and water slurry ๐Ÿฎ ๐Ÿ’ฉ one of the dairies was applying to a nearby field but that’s to be expected this time of year.

Spent a little bit of time riding around New Woodstock yesterday after taking the South Trail from outside of Cazenovia to New Woodstock. ๐Ÿš‚ Neat little village with a Historical Museum just off the rail trail. They like in Cazenovia also have an old Black Diamond Caboose there. Cute little village.

Unfortunately my bike had developed a really annoying squeak on Sunday afternoon โš™๏ธ which I couldn’t figure out and started applying grease everywhere, including getting it all over my hands ๐Ÿ‘ and jeans ๐Ÿ‘– and started to drive me crazy thinking I might have a failing bearing or some problem that could leave me stranded. I thought it was just some stone dust from the Erie Canalway somewhere it shouldn’t be mixed with the grease. Kept stopping, applying grease trying to find the noise. ๐Ÿ”• Finally, I figured it out, it was the left pedal got some stone dust in it and squeaking. A little spray lubricant, knock off WD 40 on the pedal after my south trail ride ๐Ÿšฒ returned my sanity.

Swung by Critz Farms hoping to get apples ๐Ÿ but it looked like only the brewery was open ๐Ÿป and I wasn’t looking for a drink. So I went to Cazenovia Lake Park. Kind of cold gray afternoon but the geeese didn’t seem to mind the cool gray day on Cazenovia Lake. ๐Ÿฆ†

Then I went to the Lorenzo State Historic Site, never been there before. โ›ฒ Been by it a million times though. It was a Monday so all the buildings were shut up and no visitor services or as I needed a bathroom ๐Ÿšฝ but it was still nice to explore the grounds. Swung by the library ๐Ÿ“š in Cazenovia for a pee.

Then I Canastota – Cazenovia Trailway, it was starting to rain and was cold didn’t spend a lot of time, โ˜” wanted get back to camp and start cooking soup plus by then I needed another bathroom ๐Ÿšฝ break. Too much coffee โ˜• in the morning. ๐ŸŒ… Also didn’t feel like carrying my mountain bike over several steps to cross Bingley Road. Visited Aldi’s in Cazenovia ๐Ÿ ๐Ÿฅฆ, such a delightful shopping experience. ๐Ÿ›’ Low prices, simple selection quick in and out and the cashier lines without them bagging is so quick. โ˜บ

Got back to camp around 4 pm accidentally brushed a tree with one of my tires backing into the campsite โ›บ rushing having to pee but didn’t do any body damage to my truck ๐Ÿ›ป as the tires stick out beyond the body. Sun โ˜€ came out and ghe wind died down. Fried onions and mushrooms, boiled carrots, broccoli, spinach and whole wheat pasta, added some tuna fish ๐Ÿ  for an excellent dinner. Soup really warmed me up ๐Ÿฒ, I just wish I had some homemade bread ๐Ÿž to dip in it but I eat all of that the previous three days. Had a nice fire ๐Ÿ”ฅ didn’t rain until 7:30 pm so it was a good evening at which point I retired to bed ๐Ÿ› in my truck for the evening.

Tonight will have a chance of rain and snow showers before 11pm, then a slight chance of snow showers between 11pm and 1am, then a chance of flurries after 1am. Cloudy ๐ŸŒง, with a low of 26 degrees at 6am. Eight degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical night around December 3rd. Northwest wind 14 to 18 mph, with gusts as high as 30 mph. Chance of precipitation is 30%. Little or no snow accumulation expected. In 2022, we had clear skies in the evening, which became mostly clear by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 34 degrees. The record low of 18 occurred back in 1971.

Cool but fairly decent now for Veterans Day Weekend, especially come Saturday. โ˜€ Friday, clouds then clearing, high may reach 43. Saturday, mostly sunny, with a high near 37. Sunday, going to be sunny and 39. Typical average high for the weekend is 51 degrees. Probably will stay ๐Ÿก next weekend.

Looking ahead, next Tuesday is Average High is 50 ๐Ÿ‚ when the sun will be setting at 4:42 pm with dusk at 5:11 pm. On that day in 2022, we had partly sunny and temperatures between 42 and 27 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 50 degrees. We hit a record high of 70 back in 1973.

One Car

Fantastic morning for going back to work ๐Ÿ’ฆ

Going to need to turn on my beloved brass lamp when I get into the office. Definitely not riding my bike to work today but I will try to get in early so I can walk in the Plaza for a while before work. I’ve had my work email turned off on my phone, I can only imagine the size of the research production book since the week I was gone.

Good morning! Monday’s come back around again. Got to go back and chase the money, lol. ๐Ÿ˜‚ Rain and 45 degrees in Delmar, NY. โ˜” Calm wind. Temperatures will drop below freezing at Wednesday around 11 pm. โ˜ƒ๏ธ

I am glad fresh homemade bread ๐Ÿž is cooking this morning as is pea soup. ๐Ÿฒ Also honey butternut squash and another squash I got at Annuto’s yesterday. ๐Ÿ Apple – banana – oatmeal ๐ŸŒ pancakes ๐Ÿฅž are cooking. Going to be a good breakfast. If time wasn’t so tight I probably would have cooked many of those things in West Virginia but I did not. Such a dark morning but with good eats. ๐Ÿ˜‹

Today will rain before 2pm, then a chance of showers, mainly between 2pm and 5pm. Patchy fog before 10am. ๐ŸŒง High of 48 degrees at 1pm. Eight degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical day around November 18th. Calm wind becoming northwest 5 to 9 mph in the morning. Chance of precipitation is 100%. New precipitation amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch possible. A year ago, we had partly cloudy skies in the morning with some clearing in the afternoon. The high last year was 64 degrees. The record high of 80 was set in 1946. 1.2 inches of snow fell back in 2020.โ„

Solar noon ๐ŸŒž is at 12:40 pm with sun having an altitude of 33.7ยฐ from the due south horizon (-37.2ยฐ vs. 6/21). A six foot person will cast a 9 foot shadow today compared to 2.2 feet on the first day of summer. The golden hour ๐Ÿ… starts at 5:13 pm with the sun in the west-southwest (245ยฐ). ๐Ÿ“ธ The sunset is in the west-southwest (252ยฐ) with the sun dropping below the horizon at 5:53 pm after setting for 3 minutes and 3 seconds with dusk around 6:20 pm, which is one minute and 22 seconds earlier than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ‡ The best time to look at the stars is after 6:55 pm. At sunset, look for rain ๐ŸŒง and temperatures around 47 degrees. There will be a northwest breeze at 9 mph. Tomorrow will have 10 hours and 25 minutes of daytime, a decrease of 2 minutes and 35 seconds over today.

This evening ๐ŸŒƒ I need to get to the laundromat ๐Ÿ‘– and wash the dirty clothes from camp and get groceries. I could have gone yesterday but I was dog ๐Ÿถ tired ๐Ÿ˜ด and I figured the laundromat is always packed on Sunday evening. Still tired today but so be it.

Tonight will be mostly cloudy ๐ŸŒฅ, with a low of 33 degrees at 6am. Three degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical night around November 10th. Northwest wind 7 to 10 mph. In 2022, we had mostly clear skies in the evening, which became partly cloudy by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 37 degrees. The record low of 18 occurred back in 1988.

Might be a great weekend on tap. ๐Ÿ˜Ž Saturday, partly sunny, with a high near 58. Sunday, partly sunny, with a high near 59. Typical average high for the weekend is 54 degrees. That said I’m not taking off next Monday for a long weekend to Madison County until I have better confirmation of the weekends weather.

As previously noted, there are 2 weeks until Average Night Below Freezing ๐ŸŒŒ when the sun will be setting at 4:36 pm with dusk at 5:05 pm (Standard Time). On that day in 2022, we had partly cloudy and temperatures between 49 and 36 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 50 degrees. We hit a record high of 69 back in 1964.

Pine Creek

Today was a great day up on Canaan Mountain โ›ฐ

Morning started out cold and so was the evening but tons of sunshine by midday and beautiful deep blue skies with temperatures in the low sixties by afternoon.

Good evening! Clear and 45 degrees in Canaan Heights, WV. Calm wind. The skies are full of stars. โœจ

It was a nice day though it started out cold โ„ with a hard frost. As the previous night it was cold and I got here late, spent the morning pitching the tent and setting up camp for the week, gathered firewood ๐Ÿ”ฅ , then a nice lunch of salmon ๐Ÿ  , broccoli ๐Ÿฅฆ and onions. ๐Ÿง… Dinner was rice and lentils with too much garlic and some beer. But I enjoyed most of all was the many cups of coffee โ˜• โ˜• โ˜• and eggs and vegetables. ๐Ÿณ I mean the hard boiled eggs and banana ๐ŸŒ limited piss breaks on the way down but I was all for having a real breakfast this morning.

I spent a lot of time getting camp set up for the week, โ›บ organizing gear and food. Laid back in the hammock for a while. It’s vacation, and this year I’m determined not to spend every waking hour rushing from point A to Point B. It’s not like I’m planning fewer adventures but I’m trying to explore more what is close to camp but have previously overlooked then the crowded tourist trap kind of places like Spruce Knob, Dolly Sods and Seneca Rocks. I’ve been to all those places many times before, no reason to go back. Truth is though I kind of want to go back to the Dolly Sods ๐ŸŒพ๐ŸŒฒ๐ŸŒณ but I don’t like the crowds or the rough steep road up there and it’s a bit out of the way. I guess I’ll decide later in the week.

Did a leisurely bike ๐Ÿšฒ ride along a portion of upper Canaan Loop Road and then hiked down to Blackwater Falls State Park ๐Ÿž spending some time at the scenic overlooks before hiking back through the mountain and giant laurel lined trail. With the giant laurel so tightly growing in Canaan Heights there wasn’t much of a chance of loosing the trail.

Tonight will be mostly clear ๐ŸŒƒ, with a low of 30 degrees at 5am. South wind 5 to 7 mph. Colder then Albany but also tomorrow will be warmer than back home. Lots of sun too. In 2022, we had mist in the evening, which became mostly clear by the early hours of the morning. It became humid as the night progressed. It got down to 58 degrees. The record low of 19 occurred back in 1981.

I’m starting to upload photos ๐Ÿ“ธ but with spotty cell service I’m having trouble. You might have to wait until next week to see more photos of my adventures, though I might upload some to Facebook in the meantime. Plus I’d rather be out doing fun things then messing around with social media on vacation.

Tonight will have a Waxing Gibbous ๐ŸŒ” Moon with 76% illuminated. The moon will set at 4:17 pm. The Hunter ๐Ÿน Moon is on Sunday, October 29. The darkest hour is at 12:40 am, followed by dawn at 7:01 am, and sun starting to rise at 7:33 am in the east-southeast (105ยฐ) and last for 3 minutes and 1 seconds. Sunrise is one minute and 12 seconds later than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ„ The golden hour ends at 8:09 am with sun in the east-southeast (112ยฐ). Tonight will have 13 hours and 17 minutes of darkness, an increase of 2 minutes and 43 seconds over last night.

Tomorrow will be mostly sunny ๐ŸŒž, with a high of 69 degrees at 3pm. Calm wind becoming south 5 to 8 mph in the morning. A year ago, we had light rain in the morning with some clearing in the afternoon. The high last year was 59 degrees. The record high of 75 was set in 2017. There was a dusting of snow in 1962.โ„

The plan for tomorrow is to drive down to Davis ๐Ÿ›ป then to Blackwater Falls State Park and hike out to Lindey Point. Then poke around the village, ๐Ÿ˜๏ธ and then ride Camp Seventy Road along the Black River to Canaan Wildlife Refuge. Then get milk, ice, coffee grounds and paper towels at the Stop and Shop Express or Dollar General, the only real choices you have here.

Today in 1973, President Richard M. Nixon agrees to turn over subpoenaed audio tapes of his Oval Office conversations. ๐Ÿ“ผ Nowadays politicians rarely tape themselves in preparation for writing books in retirement ๐Ÿ“ though apparently George Romney’s son is a profilic journal writer.

While so far every night I’ve camped has been below freezing in the High Country, there are 3 weeks until Average Night Below Freezing back in Albany ๐ŸŒŒ when the sun will be setting at 5:06 pm with dusk at 5:33 pm (Standard Time) here in West Virginia. On that day in 2022, we had partly cloudy and temperatures between 49 and 36 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 50 degrees. We hit a record high of 69 back in 1964.

Hang Gliders Cliff Ridgeline

I’m tuckered out ๐Ÿ›

Good day but a busy one with all that driving down from County Bridge Campground in Blossburg Penna to Cumberland Maryland, riding bike for 23 miles of the Chesapeake and Ohio Trail along with part of the Great Allegheny Passage then finally heading down to Canaan Heights WV. What a day, and there was still some daylight to set up camp too though

Good evening from West Virginia! Mostly clear and 43 degrees in Canaan Heights, WV. ๐ŸŒ  Breezy, ๏ธ16 mph breeze from the northwest ๐ŸŒฌ .

Got to camp around 6:30 pm in West Virginia, was a bit worried as the first few campsites I drove by where taken and I noticed a new sign on the way in that said camping at Designated Sites Only. โ›บ That said all of the old sites are still in service and have been improved a bit by the forest service and new sites added. It was a cold Sunday night, I had plenty of choices in the other eight or nine unoccupied sites. The nearest campsite to where I am id more than a third of a mile away.

Totally my fault, lol, ๐Ÿ˜‚ I wanted to maximize my time riding bike ๐Ÿšฒ on the Chesapeake and Ohio Trail and the Great Allegheny Passage Trails before heading down to Keyser to get supplies and ultimately head to camp. Didn’t help though that Waze had the wrong address programmed into it for Tractor Supply. ๐Ÿšœ I wanted to make sure I had a full propane tank for the next six nights as especially tonight I’m working the heater hard to stay warm – too late to find wood for camp, plus I’m dog ๐Ÿถ tired. Probably will retire to bed shortly in my truck though honestly I don’t want to sleep too soon as it’s going to be a long night and the sun rises late in West Virginia this time of year. 7:30 am tomorrow.

Tonight will be clear with a low of 27 degrees at 4 am. ๐ŸŒ‰ Winds will die down as the night progreses. In 2022, we had partly cloudy skies in the evening, which became mostly clear by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 39 degrees. The record low of 20 occurred back in 1969.

Tonight will have a First Quarter ๐ŸŒ“ Moon with 61% illuminated. At 8 PM, the moon was in the south (181ยฐ) at an altitude of 25ยฐ from the horizon, some 226,951 miles away from where you are looking up from the earth. ๐Ÿš€ At the state speed limit of 55 mph, you’ll make it there by April 11th. Buckle up for safety! ๐Ÿ’บ The Hunter ๐Ÿน Moon is on Saturday, October 28. The darkest hour is at 12:41 am, followed by dawn at 6:59 am, and sun starting to rise at 7:30 am in the east-southeast (104ยฐ) and last for 2 minutes and 59 seconds. Sunrise is one minute and 12 seconds later than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ„ The golden hour ends at 7:56 am with sun in the east-southeast (111ยฐ). Tonight will have 13 hours and 12 minutes of darkness, an increase of 2 minutes and 44 seconds over last night.

Tomorrow will be sunny โ˜€ with a high of 59 degrees at 3pm. Four degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical day around November 1st. Northwest wind 9 to 11 mph. A year ago, we had sunny skies in the morning with some clearing in the afternoon. The high last year was 63 degrees. The record high of 81 was set in 1947. 0.5 inches of snow fell back in 2002.โ„

Looks like I picked an excellent week for vacation. โ›บ The director was jokingly giving me a hard time for once again canceling a vacation day and then taking another one off, but it was worth it looking at the forecast. I just kind of wished I had packed more then three or four t-shirts as they may be what I’m wearing with the warm weather. Almost bought a West Virginia t-shirt at Walmart earlier today.

It wasn’t perfect on Saturday though. Day one, the drive down to Pennsylvania was rainy the first part of the trip, โ˜” maybe more misty and drizzle not difficult driving, lots of color along many parts of Interstate 88, Warren Anderson’s expressway. ๐Ÿ‚ Some places were past peak but others had excellent color.

Got Cider Doughnuts ๐Ÿฉ ๐Ÿ, apple cider and apples at Aunnoto’s in Oneonta. The doughnuts while not quite warm where still very fresh and exceptionally good, especially the first one I had fresh in the parking lot. Maybe it’s because I’m not used to all that sugar and fats in doughnuts but I felt like it had an out of this world taste. ๐Ÿ˜‹ The cider was decent but more tart than I had imagined. Probably the breed of apples pressed. The apples I got where quite good I’ll be enjoying them throughout the trip.

Came much closer to runnung out of gas then I want to admit on the way down to o Binghamton ultimately getting gas in Harpursville. โ›ฝ Put in over 25 gallons of gas in a truck with a 26 gallons tank. ๐Ÿคฏ Hoping to get gas as close to the Pennsylvania to avoid higher prices with the high Pennsylvania gas tax but it turns out gas was more expensive in the Binghamton area then the Northern Tier of Pennsylvania. $4 a gallon gas, added $100 to the vacation bill. The good news is filling up there I avoided getting gas until I reach the Mason Dixon line, actually south of Cumberland for $3.35 a gallon. โ˜บ Vacation costs money ๐Ÿ’ต and my vacation is quite frugal so I shouldn’t bitch about gas prices too much.

The County Bridge Campground is still only $10 a night through New Years Eve ๐Ÿ’ฐ๐Ÿ’ธ when the PA DNCR is doing away with self registration honor pay in favor of online reservations with the out of state fee, reservation fee and whatever the rustic campground fee works out to be. Not such a great deal then for one night but whatever it’s not like I stay there much. Still ten dollars a night is a steal these days with inflation, especially as that’s what it cost I believe back in 2010. Obviously subsidized by all those fracking leases, though the fracking money is drying up for the commonwealth now.

In four weeks on November 19 the sun will be setting in the west-southwest (244ยฐ) at 4:31 pm (Standard Time),๐ŸŒ„ which is one hour, 32 minutes and 59 seconds earlier then tonight. In 2022 on that day, we had mostly sunny and temperatures between 39 and 21 degrees. Typically, you have temperatures between 48 and 31 degrees. The record high of 71 degrees was set back in 1921.

Looking ahead, 7:15 AM Sunrise โŒ›๏ธ is in 7 weeks, Days are Getting Longer โ˜€๏ธ is in 2 months and Christmas Eve ๐ŸŽ… is in 9 weeks.

Watching next week’s forecast for Tucker County like a hawk ๐Ÿฆ‰

Or is it that an owl? I am studying it so carefully, but once we get beyond next week it looks pretty good but things could change, but I’m hopeful. I mean I’ve all but got my truck into drive and heading due to Tucker County. But maybe it will actually happen next weekend.

Good morning! Happy Sunday. Partly cloudy and 50 degrees in Delmar, NY. โ›… There is a north-northwest breeze at 8 mph. ๐Ÿƒ. The skies will clear around 7 pm.

Working on some maps ๐Ÿ—บ this morning and then I’ll go for a bike ride ๐Ÿšฒ out to Five Rivers Environmental Education Center for a while. Might then bike out to New Scotland and then who knows where. ๐Ÿ’จ A bit windy this morning for sure. Decided on a simple breakfast ๐Ÿฅฃ of cream of wheat, chia seeds, shredded apple and Greek yogurt. ๐Ÿ With lots of cinnamon and ginger of course. I was up before six this morning and it was super dark like usual and I’m not super motivated this morning. ๐Ÿคทโ€โ™‚๏ธ Nice sunny day โ˜€ but with the wind, kind of cold.

Today will be partly sunny ๐ŸŒž, with a high of 57 degrees at 2pm. Five degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical day around October 27th. Northwest wind 8 to 13 mph. A year ago, we had partly cloudy skies in the morning with some clearing in the afternoon. The high last year was 69 degrees. The record high of 86 was set in 1897. There was a dusting of snow in 1939.โ„

Solar noon ๐ŸŒž is at 12:42 pm with sun having an altitude of 38.9ยฐ from the due south horizon (-31.9ยฐ vs. 6/21). A six foot person will cast a 7.4 foot shadow today compared to 2.2 feet on the first day of summer. The golden hour ๐Ÿ… starts at 5:37 pm with the sun in the west-southwest (253ยฐ). ๐Ÿ“ธ The sunset is in the west (259ยฐ) with the sun dropping below the horizon at 6:15 pm after setting for 2 minutes and 57 seconds with dusk around 6:42 pm, which is one minute and 37 seconds earlier than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ‡ The best time to look at the stars is after 7:16 pm. At sunset, look for partly cloudy skies ๐ŸŒƒ and temperatures around 53 degrees. There will be a northwest breeze at 10 mph. Today will have 11 hours and 8 minutes of daytime, a decrease of 2 minutes and 47 seconds over yesterday.

Tonight will have isolated showers after midnight. Mostly cloudy ๐ŸŒง, with a low of 44 degrees at 2am. Three degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical night around October 8th. Northwest wind around 9 mph. Chance of precipitation is 20%. In 2022, we had mostly clear skies in the evening, which became mostly clear by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 38 degrees. The record low of 25 occurred back in 1978.

 Catskills In The Distance

Caught my first mouse of the year ๐Ÿ

A true sign of autumn I guess along with the darkening mornings and colorful woods.

Good morning! Happy Thursday. Partly cloudy and 58 degrees in Delmar, NY. โ›… Calm wind. The dew point is 57 degrees.

Out for a somewhat muddy walk ๐Ÿšถ in the Swift Wetland Preserve ๐Ÿธ as I’m running a bit late and I wanted to get in some steps before showering ๐Ÿšฟ and wanted to avoid the craziness and carbon monoxide of waking around the high school at this hour. Plus the woods is pretty colorful at this point. ๐Ÿ‚Chased a doe and fawn while walking. ๐ŸฆŒ

Today will be mostly sunny ๐ŸŒž, with a high of 80 degrees at 3pm. 14 degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical day around August 31st. Maximum dew point of 60 at 10am. Light south wind increasing to 6 to 11 mph in the morning. One last day of summer in October. A year ago, we had light rain in the morning with some clearing in the afternoon. The high last year was 64 degrees. The record high of 91 was set in 1941.

After a relatively quiet morning in the kitchen yesterday ๐Ÿง‘‍๐Ÿณ this morning was a little bit busier with eggs, spinach, peppers, onions, Parmesan and nutritional yeast cooking up for breakfast. I’m not a vegetarian but I like the taste of nutritional yeast — I wouldn’t call it truly cheesy but I would say it reminds of powdered Cheese-It Crackers like you might find at the end of the bag, that is minus unhealthy the salt and fat. Chipotle powder and turmeric for spices. And some hot peppers. ๐ŸŒถ๏ธ The oven had a big loaf ๐Ÿž of whole wheat bread cooking, sweet potato ๐Ÿฅ”, zucchini and butternut squash ๐Ÿ† baking then roasting after the bread was done. The stove top has chickpeas boiling down to make hummus tonight.

Solar noon ๐ŸŒž is at 12:45 pm with sun having an altitude of 42.7° from the due south horizon (-28.1° vs. 6/21). A six foot person will cast a 6.5 foot shadow today compared to 2.2 feet on the first day of summer. The golden hour ๐Ÿ… starts at 5:54 pm with the sun in the west-southwest (258°). ๐Ÿ“ธ The sunset is in the west (264°) with the sun dropping below the horizon at 6:32 pm after setting for 2 minutes and 55 seconds with dusk around 6:58 pm, which is one minute and 43 seconds earlier than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ‡ The best time to look at the stars is after 7:33 pm. At sunset, look for mostly clear skies ๐ŸŒ„ and temperatures around 74 degrees. The dew point will be 57 degrees. There will be a south-southeast breeze at 10 mph. Today will have 11 hours and 36 minutes of daytime, a decrease of 2 minutes and 50 seconds over yesterday.

Riding in to work today, ๐Ÿšฒ which is good because it looks like I’ll only get in 3,500 steps so far this morning walking the Swift Wetland Preserve. I got a later start then usual, closer to six then five, because I usually wake up earlier but last night I didn’t. Slept good, and got a solid night’s sleep so that was good ๐Ÿ›Œ and had a time to do all the cooking needed for the day. ๐Ÿฅ˜ I got to run out to my parents house tonight, so I am going to just have a small portion of left lasagana for dinner, and maybe some of the butternut squash and sweet potato I made up earlier. The rest I’ll either freeze or save for the weekend.

Tonight will have increasing clouds โ˜, with a low of 59 degrees at 4am. 14 degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical night around August 29th. Maximum dew point of 59 at 4am. South wind around 8 mph. In 2022, we had cloudy skies in the evening, which became mostly clear by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 42 degrees. The record low of 24 occurred back in 1965.

Columbus Day Weekend โ›ตcontinues to look wet, cold and windy. The story of the summer that was. ๐ŸคทSaturday, showers and possibly a thunderstorm. High near 66. Southeast wind 7 to 10 mph becoming west in the afternoon. Chance of precipitation is 90%. New rainfall amounts between three quarters and one inch possible. Lol, that’s wet. ๐ŸŒง Maximum dew point of 63 at 6am. Sunday, a chance of showers. Partly sunny, with a high near 57. Breezy. ๐ŸŒฌ Chance of precipitation is 40%. Columbus Day, a chance of showers after 8am. Partly sunny, with a high near 56. Chance of precipitation is 30%. Typical average high for the weekend is 65 degrees. Yeah, probably not the weekend to get out of town though maybe I could still do an overnight close to home if Sunday into Monday is okay. Then again my October vacation begins in a week. ๐Ÿ• ๐Ÿ˜ฎ

Inside the Old Homestead

This morning the kitchen was smelling of onions and turmeric at five thirty ๐Ÿง…

See I slept in a bit before filling the top of the stove up with various pots and pans cooking breakfast, lunch and dinner. It involved some ginger but also much turmeric and veggies plus eggs, rice and beans. Plus chickpeas for hummus, some baking for wraps and coffee so I could keep pissing my life away. And now I’m out walking.

Good morning! Happy Tuesday. Partly cloudy โ›… and 49 degrees in Delmar, NY. โ˜ There is a north-northwest breeze at 5 mph. ๐Ÿƒ. The skies will clear around 11 am.

Second gear โš™ of the week. Things went pretty smoothly on the first day of the week. But as some who owns a truck with a 4L60E tranny, it’s the 2-3 gear shift you got to watch. It’s the one with the big clunk at times. But so far I’m feeling great. I’m doing my best to stay away from the days of six NNNNNNs like all Silverados get eventually with the . Those days will come eventually but got to enjoy life in the meantime. Do what you can when you still can. Big Red is humming along well, as am I but I know that day will come someday as occasionally I get rough 2-3rd shift. But my truck has 105k on it and it’s hitting 12 years old in less then a month with 35 inch tires and getting beat on rough roads on hills. That said, I’ve been thinking a bit more about Taco’ trucks and 3/4rd ton. ๐Ÿ›ป Not sure if I’ll go bigger or smaller, but probably less fancy with a regular cab unless I go with a Taco’ truck then I’ll want the space. ๐Ÿ›ž I think though it will be good for at least one more winter, and should be good for vacation in a few weeks. ๐Ÿ˜€

Today will be partly cloudy, then gradually becoming mostly sunny ๐ŸŒฅ ๐Ÿ‘‰ โ˜€ , with a high of 67 degrees at 3pm. Three degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical day around October 3rd. Maximum dew point of 51 at 10am. North wind 5 to 7 mph becoming east in the afternoon. A year ago, we had partly cloudy skies in the morning with some clearing in the afternoon. The high last year was 71 degrees. The record high of 90 was set in 2017.

So I have that hummus to make up ๐Ÿฅฃ with the chickpeas boiling up on the stove and getting silky soft and then pack lunch ๐ŸŽ’ take a shower ๐Ÿšฟ and then ride to work. ๐Ÿšฒ Gears have been greased and adjusted and ready for the week. I am going to add to the hummus jalapeño and tomato topping, ๐Ÿ… after saying my parents wouldn’t have any tomatoes they did. But they did, and I lucked out and it was good. That made me so happy, as I thought the fresh tomato season was almost done. I figure maybe a few more weeks at farm markets or Shauls for tomatoes, but soon it will be grocery store tomatoes or even canned tomatoes. ๐Ÿฅซ

I am continuing to play with advertising positioning on the blog ๐Ÿ“บ which I know is annoying, and I hate it but I want to work it into the blog where I can make some revenue, cover my costs, without being too obnoxious. Most of the products are pretty scammy, but do check out their websites if they have products that interest you so I can get the half of penny or so. My goal is to make about $2 a day on advertising, which isn’t a lot of money, but will mean that I get a $100 check after taxes every two months or so to cover the cost of the blog, and maybe even inspire me to create some new maps and interesting content.

A picture perfect weekend on tap. ๐Ÿ˜Ž Saturday, mostly sunny, with a high near 74. Maximum dew point of 57 at 11am. Sunday, sunny, with a high near 75. Maximum dew point of 58 at 12pm. Typical average high for the weekend is 68 degrees. I really should plan on going somewhere fun this weekend!
