Good evening! A bright moon lit but very cold nights around 19 degrees in Delmar. ❄ There is a northwest breeze at 15 mph. 🍃. The current wind chill is 5. If you bundle up, it’s a fantastic night, no flash light needed but it’s icy in spots. There is a few inches of snow on the ground in parts, some are bare ground too. Lots of black ice around too, I noticed that when I went for my evening walk. Walking it actually didn’t feel so cold. β˜ƒ ️Things will start to thaw out at Saturday around 10 am. 🌡️

Tonight will have a slight chance of snow showers before 11pm. Partly cloudy 🌧, with a low of 8 degrees at 6am. 22 degrees below normal. That’s a pretty cold night even for January. Maximum wind chill around -8 at 6am; Northwest wind around 15 mph. Burr. Cold. Chance of precipitation is 20%. In 2017, we had partly cloudy skies with more clouds in the early hours of the next day. It got down to 34 degrees. The record low of 9 occurred back in 1969.

Tonight will have a Waxing Gibbous Moon 🌔 with 98% illuminated. Basically a full moon and with the snow on the ground and the clear skies its not dark out by any stretch of the imagination at least by night standards. . The moon will set at 5:54 am. The Beaver Moon🌕 will be tomorrow, Thanksgiving. The sun will rise at 6:55 am with the first light at 6:24 am, which is one minute and 12 seconds later than yesterday. 🌄 Tonight will have 14 hours and 28 minutes of darkness, an increase of one minute and 54 seconds over last night.

Thanksgiving Day will be sunny 🌞, with a high of 21 degrees at 1pm. 24 degrees below normal. Maximum wind chill around -8 at 6am; Northwest wind 13 to 16 mph. Cold. Possibly the coldest Thanksgiving on record. But very blue skies. 🗻A year ago, we had mostly sunny skies with more clouds in the afternoon. The high last year was 46 degrees. The record high of 70 was set in 1931. 9.1 inches of snow fell back in 1943.❄

Today was a pretty quiet day at work and I got to leave early so I ended up going for a walk around the neighborhood🏃 both before dusk and after dinner. Took the local home, as I left at three, but honestly I’ve lately been happy with the performance of the express since they changed the route to avoid the delays on Madison Avenue. 🚍Made up a nice big bowl of pasta, with breadcrumbs and meatballs, woke hot sauce, corn and cheese. 🍛Worked on some electronics projects involving Bluetooth📲 and while despite much time playing with the computer I was able to pair my VMS display and my Arduino Nano with my phone. 📡 Not sure what the computer issue is, something is messed up with Linux as the USB dongle I have works fine with other non serial devices. Bluetooth has great with the headphones, I can watch YouTube videos I downloaded at the library earlier in the week from bed from my 23 inch monitor that rarely gets turned on. No complaints about that. I have to admit I enjoy watching videos about electronics, hunting, fishing, agriculture and off grid living. It’s great to learn about the technology and techniques.

I have been a bit tardy at updating the blog the past few days, as the internet stopped working on my laptop, at least at the public library since I upgraded the network driver. 💻It’s never been particularly reliable at the library ever since I got it so tempted to get an inexpensive USB to wifi adapter from China and see how it works.📡 Maybe a few different models as they are so cheap on AliExpress and you never know what is going to work with Linux properly.

Plus it’s mid winter, at relatively slow and boring work week. 🐌 I just lack topics to blog about. Even the sunsets haven’t been that great with the clouds. ☁ I’ve been posting more essays and I should do more interactive content but the wifi issues have been holding me back. I’ll try to do more next week, but honestly I’ve been trying to avoid the swamp known as social media and even news articles more generally. I follow my clients news media but I rarely follow the local or national news sources lately. 📰 I’m rather burnt out with the news and the hatred in the world today, I’d rather listen to those John Burroughs audio books on LibreVox or read a paper book. I have thought been trying to follow Marketplace on NPR as I think economic markets are important to me 📉as I try to be a savvy investor.

Next week I’m taking my truck to Denooyer to get inspected. I was going to do it in Greenville when I went out to my parents but they don’t have weekend hours and Denooyer is open late so I can just drop it off and pick it up after work.🔧 It’s a bit of a walk to the express bus from there so hopefully it won’t be too cold or icy come Wednesday. Dealer service is actually really convenient with their long hours compared to local mechanics where I’d have to leave work early. 😁 Thursday I have a dentist appointment bright and early at 7:50 AM. I might just take the 7:30 bus there, it would be easier then parking than catching the bus from the park and ride but I’ll have to watch the weather first.

Right now, the weekend actually doesn’t look too bad😄 Saturday, a chance of rain after 1pm. Partly sunny, with a high near 41. Chance of precipitation is 30%. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch possible. Sunday, mostly cloudy, with a high near 48. Typical average high for the weekend is 44 degrees.

That actually sounds better than I thought. Not too cold or stormy. The rain they had promised hasn’t materialized. Maybe I will head out of town for a few days. β›Ί I’ll think about it some more tomorrow. I’d really like to spend some time in the woods and night’s in the wilderness.

In four weeks on December 19 the sun will be setting at 4:24 pm,🌄 which is 3 minutes and 20 seconds earlier then tonight. In 2017 on that day, we had rain, mostly cloudy skies and temperatures between 53 and 34 degrees. Not quite the record but was very mild compared to this year. Typically, you have temperatures between 35 and 20 degrees. The record high of 54 degrees was set back in 1895.

Kind of a busy day with a lot of different things going on. I was hoping to get to Cynthia Poolers fundraiser for the Reszin Adams documentary but I got stuck with work and it would have been pretty late by the time🎬 I got there, and it was all the way up in Colonie. Maybe I can mail a check. I probably should have gone.

This evening I continued to work on several electronics projects, including upgrading my VMS ticker display to a lolin32 board from an Arduino. The extra memory means I’m not always so crushed for space,📱 I can do some graphics now and eventually will add updates via Bluetooth. The computing power, low energy consumption and low cost of the small development boards is nothing short of amazing. Remember, it wasn’t that long ago that everybody still used mechanical devices like cam timers. 🔗

I also started to work on a new reading lamp / light for over my bed to make getting up on dark winter mornings easier. The blue light from the colored strips helped that I built last winter but they have poor color rendition so I adding a warm white strip over my bed. I do need to get another 12 volt power supply, I’m going to order that next week. The idea is it will eventually talk to the other strip using Bluetooth. Just because I don’t have internet at home, doesn’t mean I can’t build nice low power, smart devices that can make my life better.

Many of the devices I’m building aren’t perfect, but I am learning a lot about electricity, microprocessors, and communication buses. 🔬 It’s useful knowledge that I can use going forward.

In four weeks on December 17 the sun will be setting at 4:23 pm,🌄 which is 5 minutes and 33 seconds earlier then tonight. In 2017 on that day, we had partly cloudy skies and temperatures between 27 and 8 degrees. Typically, you have temperatures between 35 and 21 degrees. The record high of 59 degrees was set back in 1984.

Looking ahead, Cyber Monday 🛍️ is in 1 weeks, New Years Eve 🎆 is in 6 weeks, Martin Luther King Day 🖤 is in 9 weeks, Average High is 40 β˜€οΈ is in 15 weeks, Daylight Savings Time 🌆 is in 16 weeks and Last Sunset After 8:30 PM 🌆 is in 34 weeks. That’s a ways out.

Cold Afternoon on Mary Smith Hill

November 18, 2018 Night

Good evening! Light snow and 31 degrees in Delmar. ❄ A very fine snow, not really accumulating on the ground as the air is very dry. Calm wind. There is 3.5 inches of snow on the ground. β˜ƒ With the dry air and warmer temperatures it was melting fast today, in the burbs it’s not expected to last until we get more snow tomorrow. ️Things will start to thaw out at tomorrow around 2 am as temperatures warm over night. 🌡️

Tonight will be periods of snow before 3am, then a chance of rain, snow, and sleet between 3am and 4am, then a chance of rain after 4am. 🌨 Low of 31 degrees at 10pm. Typical for tonight. Calm wind. Chance of precipitation is 80%. Total nighttime snow and sleet accumulation of around an inch possible. In 2017, we had light rain in the evening, remaining overcast into the early morning. It got down to 33 degrees. The record low of 12 occurred back in 1972.

Tonight will have a Waxing Gibbous Moon 🌔 with 82% illuminated. The moon will set at 2:35 am. The Beaver Moon 🌕 is on Thanksgiving night with scattered snow showers for your turkey trotting. The sun will rise at 6:51 am with the first light at 6:21 am, which is one minute and 14 seconds later than yesterday. 🌄 Tonight will have 14 hours and 22 minutes of darkness, an increase of 2 minutes and one second over last night. That’s depressing as we get closer to winter, not that you wouldn’t notice with all the cold weather and predicted snow in the forecast. Wednesday and Thursday will be nice, just very cold.

Tomorrow will have a chance of rain and snow, mainly before 9am. Mostly cloudy 🌧, with a high of 41 degrees at 1pm. Six degrees below normal, which is similiar to a typical day around December 1st. Always like to keep it in context. Calm wind becoming northwest around 5 mph in the afternoon. Chance of precipitation is 30%. New snow accumulation of less than a half inch possible. A year ago, we had cloudy skies. The high last year was 52 degrees. The record high of 71 was set in 1921. 4.2 inches of snow fell back in 1914.❄

I went out to a my parents house for Sunday dinner. Mom made her world famous lasagna and like usual it was pretty good. 🍝 I mean I probably could make something similar like that if I wanted but probably not as good as mom makes it. I also did my wash and sheets, the first time my sheets have been done since September, but I was gone for nearly two months.

Went for my evening walk. 🏃At first my the sleet hitting my face was cold but in the end wasn’t that bad. I also stepped on a thumb tack earlier today which hurt a bit now but wasn’t so bad for most of the day. It was in deep and a bit difficult to pull out but I think it will be good although I really should get my MMP booster or whatever it’s called especially when you hear about the kids getting whopping cough from school and getting very sick.

I worked up some scripts on my computer tonight that allows me to mark YouTube videos and then download them in the background, so I can take them home from the library with ease. 🎥 This way I can watch them at home without an internet connection. My script is simple enough to use – I copy the video location into my clipboard, hit meta – c and it will mark the address in a file then ask if I want to download all the marked video into my home watching folder. Works well. If I hit yes, it uses the YOUTUBE-DL script to scrape the page and download the video then once all the marked videos are downloaded it opens them up in vlc player. No advertising this way and I can watch them at home whenever without internet.

Tomorrow night I want to start building the permanent board for my Lolin32 based sign display board driver and maybe start working on the warm white led strip lamp that will set above my bed and eventually provide light for reading and waking up on the dark winter mornings. I still need to get a power supply for that but ultimately I expect it will be Arduino Nano controlled and use a Bluetooth connection to communicate with the colored lights on the other side of the room to control timing and turning it on and off. I’ll use the infrared TV remote I bought a while back for both with the bright warm white led light coming on automatically each morning to help make dark mornings more pleasant to awaken in.

Right now, a split verdict on the weekend. πŸ˜• Saturday, a chance of rain and snow showers. Partly sunny, with a high near 37. Chance of precipitation is 30%. Sunday, a chance of rain and snow showers. Cloudy, with a high near 39. Chance of precipitation is 40%. Typical average high for the weekend is 44 degrees. It’s going to be another cold and gray week, I will probably stay in town again. I do need to get my truck inspected at some point.

In four weeks on December 16 the sun will be setting at 4:23 pm,🌄 which is 6 minutes and 39 seconds earlier then tonight. In 2017 on that day, we had snow, cloudy skies and temperatures between 31 and 11 degrees. Typically, you have temperatures between 36 and 21 degrees. Good evening! Clearing skies, quite mild and 38 degrees in Delmar. 🌝 There is a northwest breeze at 7 mph. 🍃. There are 4 inches of snow on the ground. With the mild temperatures it’s melting quickly locally but there is still a ton up north. ️Temperatures will drop below freezing at tomorrow around 4 am. β˜ƒοΈ

Tonight will have isolated showers before midnight. Mostly cloudy 🌧, with a low of 27 degrees at 6am. Four degrees below normal, which is similiar to a typical night around November 30th, in case you were wondering. Northwest wind around 7 mph. Chance of precipitation is 20%. In 2017, we had clear skies. It got down to 21 degrees. The record low of 10 occurred back in 1972.

Tonight will have a Waxing Gibbous Moon 🌔 with 74% illuminated. Lots of moon light this evening, especially late. The moon will set at 1:33 am. The Beaver Moon 🌕 is on Thanksgiving night with a chance of snow showers. Good for a trot after eating all that turkey. The sun will rise at 6:50 am with the first light at 6:19 am, which is one minute and 14 seconds later than yesterday. 🌄 Tonight will have 14 hours and 20 minutes of darkness, an increase of 2 minutes and 4 seconds over last night. Nights really are long this time of year. But then again, days will become this long come six months from now.

I kind of like how I can sit in my bed now and watch a video with my Bluetooth headphones on my laptop and big monitor across the room. 💻 I sometimes like downloading YouTube videos at the library and watching them at home and now I won’t have to worry about bugging my neighbors with the noise.

I got the VMS sign that I have in my bedroom ported over to the ESP32/Lolin32 board I have. Changes were quite minor but now I have a much more powerful board that I can add Bluetooth Connectivity, more messages and graphics to my display. After studying the manual I also figured out how to switch between the graphics drawing mode with the MD MAX72XX library and the MD Parola library.🔑 I knew there was a way to do it, I just had to find it in the documentation and make sure my code was making the switches between the modes cleanly. With the additional power of the lolin32 board there is a lot of possibilities. I think tomorrow I will solder together a board for this purpose on perfboard. I am going to also order some more lolin32 boards from China as they are only slightly more expensive than the Arduino Nano and really don’t use that much more additional power.

Tomorrow will have a slight chance of snow before 3pm, then a slight chance of rain and snow between 3pm and 4pm, then a chance of snow after 4pm. Mostly cloudy 🌧, with a high of 36 degrees at 3pm. 11 degrees below normal, which is similiar to a typical day around December 14th. North wind around 6 mph becoming light and variable. Chance of precipitation is 30%. New snow accumulation of less than a half inch possible. A year ago, we had mostly cloudy skies, clearing in the afternoon. The high last year was 46 degrees. The record high of 71 was set in 1928. 9 inches of snow fell back in 1980.❄

I might go out skiing tomorrow locally, although the snow might be a bit slushy. 🏂I’ll have to think about it a bit more. Depends on how cold it is.

Went for a nice little evening walk tonight, fresh air was nice not too cold or icy. Sidewalks generally were quite clear.🚶

Yes, I have to work on putting up some new maps on the blog. Maybe I’ll work on that tomorrow or maybe early next week. 🌎 I’ve gotten bad at creating new maps and content, doing more other things besides creating interesting content that actually drives people to the blog.

In four weeks on December 15 the sun will be setting at 4:22 pm,🌄 which is 7 minutes and 45 seconds earlier then tonight. In 2017 on that day, we had snow, mostly cloudy skies and temperatures between 22 and 7 degrees. Typically, you have temperatures between 36 and 21 degrees. The record high of 61 degrees was set back in 2015.

Looking ahead, December 🎄 is in 2 weeks, February 🌧 is in 11 weeks, Ground Hog Day 🐻 is in 11 weeks, St. Patrick’s Day 🍀 is in 4 months, 7:30 PM Sunset 🌇 is in 20 weeks, Palm Sunday 🌴 is in 21 weeks, Easter 🐰 and Earth Day 🌎 is in 22 weeks, Cinco de Mayo 🤠 is in 24 weeks, Mothers Day 👩‍ is in 25 weeks and Fathers Day 👨 is in 30 weeks.

Cold Afternoon on Mary Smith Hill

November 15, 2018 Night

Good evening! Modestly heavy snow and 25 degrees in Delmar. ❄ At least a half foot so far has fallen in Delmar, I probably should have moved my truck but at least I made it back to Delmar before the roads got slick. There is a north-northeast breeze at 6 mph. 🍃. Things will start to thaw out at tomorrow around 9 am. 🌡️

Tonight will snow. The snow could be heavy at times. 🌨 Low of 25 degrees at 11pm. Seven degrees below normal, which is similiar to a typical night around December 5th. Cool but not outrageously cold. North wind 6 to 8 mph. Chance of precipitation is 100%. Total nighttime snow accumulation of 4 to 8 inches possible. I bet it will be on the high end of the range. In 2017, we had mostly cloudy skies. It got down to 39 degrees. The record low of 7 occurred back in 1972.

Tonight will have a Waxing Gibbous Moon 🌔 with 56% illuminated. The moon will set at 12:00 am. The Beaver Moon 🌕 is on Thanksgiving next Thursday with mostly cloudy skies. The sun will rise at 6:47 am with the first light at 6:17 am, which is one minute and 15 seconds later than yesterday. 🌄 Tonight will have 14 hours and 16 minutes of darkness, an increase of 2 minutes and 8 seconds over last night.

Tomorrow will snow before 10am, then rain and snow likely between 10am and noon, then a chance of rain after noon. 🌧 High of 39 degrees at 2pm. Nine degrees below normal, which is similiar to a typical day around December 6th. Northwest wind 5 to 13 mph. Chance of precipitation is 80%. New snow accumulation of 1 to 2 inches possible. Seems like it’s mostly a night storm for us, not going to be a big deal for the morning commute. A year ago, we had mostly sunny skies. The high last year was 53 degrees. A big contrast to today. Very cold and icy by evening day. The record high of 71 was set in 2006. 3.4 inches of snow fell back in 2002.❄

Cool this weekend with temperatures running 9 degrees below normal but otherwise sunny. πŸ˜€ Saturday, partly sunny, with a high near 42. West wind 7 to 9 mph. Sunday, a slight chance of snow showers after 1pm. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 35. Chance of precipitation is 20%. Typical average high for the weekend is 47 degrees. I’ll take the sun. I may head up north this weekend, I’m still thinking about it but there will be a lot of snow up there.

I was looking at the snow accumulation data earlier today β›„and except for the snow belt there isn’t a ton of snow across the state. The deepest snow were in Essex County state wide and even there was only 8 inches. It looks like last weekend I could have gone up to the East Branch and only had a few inches of snow to deal with their up north.

Cooperstown was a fun trip for few days 👨 but I did most of the driving after dark so I missed most of the landscape but I was surprised how many relatively big dairy farms are located along the Susquehanna River right south of Cooperstown. 🐄 I thought the valley was pretty narrow down there but it clearly has some good soils from the river valley. It was dusk when I was driving back tonight before the snow kicked in, and it was pretty with the snow covered hills along Interstate 88. I would have preferred to have more light to enjoy the scenery and maybe taken the back roads but sometimes you don’t get to choose the hours for a work trip. Still those hills are beautiful along 88, although I can only imagine how bad they’d be if everything was icy. The wind and sleet were bad enough on Tuesday and it was above freezing the whole time, although not by much.

I heard they had really bad ice in Albany yesterday but at least I was out of town so I missed that.❄ Just snow on and off where I was and some sleet on Tuesday there never stuck to the treated roads although viability at times was marginal especially on NY 28.

Next time I’m out that way again I’m going to have to go back to the Cooperstown dinner. 🍔 I really liked that place a lot, just because the food was good, it was small, quiet and non fancy. If we get a warm up in December I may head back out that way and visit Glimmerglass State Park then camp at Charles Baker State Forest. Maybe do it on a weekend when Hyde Hall 🏤is open for tours although I don’t know if it’s open in the winter as I doubt it has centralized heat. Historic sites are a lot of fun to tour.

I do find those small towns so charming, although I always wonder what I could do for a living in such a place. Camping trips put that way are fun and business trips to places like that are much more fun than the city. But then again I doubt I’d ever want to set roots down in a place like New York especially when you can just go south of the New York Pennsylvania border and have much more freedom and pay less for everything besides maybe gasoline, thanks to Governor Tom the Turkey and his Republican legislator that at least the state canned the turkey over Act 72 or whatever that big gas tax hike was. β›½The hills of Northern Appalachia in the Pennsylvania Wild Region are so pretty, they really do extend north all the way up to Schoharie County when you look at the topography and land forms🗻.

I am very disappointed with the poor sound quality of the ear budsI bought very cheaply at Walmart about two months ago. I wouldn’t have bought such cheap ones but that’s all they had at the Cicero Walmart when I was there. 🎧 What I should do is see if I can find some decent looking ones on Ali Express, order a few of them for a buck or two and if I really like them plunk down like $15 and get a big box of them. I would never buy anything expensive from Ali Express but for simple things like basic electronics components it’s hard to beat Ali.

In four weeks on December 13 the sun will be setting at 4:22 pm,🌄 which is 9 minutes and 55 seconds earlier then tonight. Basically the earliest sunset of year or close to it. In 2017 on that day, we had snow, mostly cloudy skies and temperatures between 22 and 16 degrees. Typically, you have temperatures between 37 and 22 degrees. The record high of 58 degrees was set back in 1984.

Looking ahead, Thanksgiving 🦃 is in 1 week, Valentines Day ❀️ is in 13 weeks, Ides of March ✝ is in 4 months, Tax Day 💰 is in 5 months, Memorial Day Weekend Starts 🏕️ is in 27 weeks and Dog Days of Summer 🌻 is in 33 weeks.

November 13, 2018 Night

Good evening! Light snow and 29 degrees in Cooperstown. ❄ There is a west-northwest breeze at 13 mph. πŸƒ. Things will start to thaw out at Friday around 11 am. 🌑️

Tonight will snow showers likely, mainly after 1am. Mostly cloudy 🌧, with a low of 20 degrees at 6am. 12 degrees below normal, which is similiar to a typical night around December 18th. Maximum wind chill around 9 at 5am; West wind 11 to 14 mph. Chance of precipitation is 60%. Total nighttime snow accumulation of around 2 inches. In 2017, we had cloudy skies. It got down to 32 degrees. The record low of 12 occurred back in 1996.

Tonight will have a Waxing Crescent Moon πŸŒ’ with 37% illuminated. The moon will rise at 12:33 am. The First Quarter Moon will be tomorrow with scattered flurries. The Beaver Moon 🌝 is on Thursday, November 22nd. The sun will rise at 6:49 am with the first light at 6:19 am, which is one minute and 15 seconds later than yesterday. πŸŒ„ Tonight will have 14 hours and 12 minutes of darkness, an increase of 2 minutes and 13 seconds over last night.

Tomorrow will snow showers likely, mainly before 9am, then a chance of snow showers with scattered flurries after 5pm. Mostly cloudy 🌦, with a high of 28 degrees at 2pm. 21 degrees below normal. Northwest wind 9 to 15 mph. Chance of precipitation is 60%. New snow accumulation of around an inch possible. A year ago, we had cloudy skies with some clearing in the afternoon. The high last year was 40 degrees. The record high of 70 was set in 1973. 14.4 inches of snow fell back in 1972.❄

I’m glad I made it out here before the roads froze up, as the temperature kept dropping as I headed out this way and the wind was really whipping around on Interstate 88, and for a while it was sleeting hard making visiblity difficult. Having the headlights well adjusted did help though a lot. Fortunately, it seems like the road salt will keep things from getting too icy right away. Having a good burger at the Cooperstown Dinner πŸ” and then going down for a swim in the indoor swimming then in the hot tub at the place I’m staying made up for it. Sometimes work trips are fun. 😎 Nice digs, at least for the night. But a busy today tomorrow.

Much more fun on a cold night like today then camping up in the wilderness somewhere in the wilderness,πŸ• although if the snow disappears in December I probably will camp and maybe hunt up at Cherry Ridge in Charles Baker State Forest.Β My theory is we will get a big warm up with rain in mid-December, taking away the snow but maybe that’s wishful thinking. That was fun camping on Christmas Day 2015, not too cold that year, and it was a great hike at the Glimmerglass State Park. US 20 isn’t that far north of the northern part of the lake. Maybe I’ll have to visit the Cooperstown dinner again the next time I’m out here.

Truck has been working great, ever since I topped off the tires.☸ I guess I haven’t had the wheels in a hard lock, although I did rub a little on the wheel well backing out before, but I haven’t noticed any unusual noises since I raised the tire pressures up to 46 PSI cold. Some of them before I added air where about 39 PSI, which with those big tires is much too low, causing a lot of noise and poor handling on the curves. This might be too high for mid-summer when I’m off road and would lead to a rough ride, but for now the handling is superior and the ride is only slightly rougher on the bumps. I got to keep an eye on the tire pressure now that it’s getting to the colder time of the year.

I downloaded some of John Burrough’s audio books from LibreVox on my phone. I had no idea that my podcast program also is tied in LibreVox.πŸ”Š I keep meaning to listen to some of Borrough’s writings, I’ve been very interested ever since visiting the Borrough’s State Historic site. I might listen to them for a while tonight. We will see, it depends how difficult it is to get to sleep, or how much I listen to them before i’m head out. I have a long day tomorrow, probably with more driving after dark. But at least my headlights are well aimed now.

I still haven’t found my electronic projects wire strippers. Really fustrating. The ones I have aren’t an expensive tool, βœ‚ but a very essential one for building electronics. I will have to order another pear this weekend if I can’t find them. I don’t think I can get them locally, nowadays with Radio Shack gone.

Not a particularly nice weekend on tap. 😞 Saturday, mostly cloudy, with a high near 38. Sunday, mostly cloudy, with a high near 31. Typical average high for the weekend is 47 degrees. Maybe it will be nicer up north, but by then I expect they will have a ton of snow up there. If it’s sunnier and without new snow falling, I might try to get up north to do some tent hot camping this weekend. I though will have to plan on bringing my snow shovel, then digging out a parking spot, then moving my truck to campsite, as I expect a ton of snow up north.πŸ” Good for skiing though. A few inches of snow in Cooperstown, depending where you look. The mountains sure sure looked snowier around Interstate 88, probably too much snow to do the back roads in Burnt-Rossman State Forest any time soon.

In four weeks on December 11 the sun will be setting at 4:26 pm,πŸŒ„ which is 12 minutes and 8 seconds earlier then tonight. In 2017 on that day, we had snow, cloudy skies and temperatures between 34 and 24 degrees. Typically, you have temperatures between 37 and 23 degrees. The record high of 61 degrees was set back in 1952.

Sorry, if I’ve been too negative lately. 😠 It’s just tough adjusting to winter, which seems to have come so quickly. I wish I could have made my autumn road trip happen, it kind of sucks to have to put it off. But then again, I can’t control the snow or anything else that is going on.🌨 I’m still hoping the snow won’t set in for the year, but if it does, spring will eventually come, and then eventually the mud season will end and all the back country roads will open again.

Looking ahead, Christmas πŸŽ… is in 6 weeks, New Years Day 2019 πŸŽ‰ is in 7 weeks, 36th Birthday πŸŽ‰ is in 11 weeks, Daylight Savings Time πŸŒ† is in 17 weeks, Hottest Time of the Year πŸ˜… is in 8 months, Last Sunset After 8:30 PM πŸŒ† is in 35 weeks and Election Day 2020 πŸ—³οΈ is in 103 weeks.

November 12, 2018 Night

Good evening! Mostly cloudy and 40 degrees in Delmar. ☁ There is a south breeze at 5 mph. 🍃. Temperatures will drop below freezing at tomorrow around 8 pm. β˜ƒοΈ Then a long cold period will be upon us.

Tonight will rain and snow before 3am, then rain, snow, and sleet between 3am and 4am, then rain after 4am. 🌧 Low of 35 degrees at 3am. Three degrees above normal, which is similiar to a typical night around November 3rd. That’s kind of good otherwise it would be a quite snowy evening. South wind 3 to 5 mph. Chance of precipitation is 100%. Little or no snow and sleet accumulation expected. In 2017, we had cloudy skies. It got down to 32 degrees. The record low of 13 occurred back in 1981.

Tonight will have a Waxing Crescent Moon 🌒 with 28% illuminated. The moon will rise at 11:55 am. The First Quarter Moon is on Wednesday night with mostly clear skies. The Beaver Moon 🌝 is on Thursday, November 22nd. Good trapping. The sun will rise at 6:44 am with the first light at 6:14 am, which is one minute and 16 seconds later than yesterday. 🌄 Tonight will have 14 hours and 10 minutes of darkness, an increase of 2 minutes and 14 seconds over last night.

Tomorrow will rain, mainly before noon, then a slight chance of showers after 3pm. 🌧 High of 39 degrees at 12pm. 10 degrees below normal, which is similiar to a typical day around December 6th. Kind of a wet and cold day ahead. North wind 5 to 14 mph becoming northwest in the afternoon. Chance of precipitation is 100%. New precipitation amounts between a quarter and half of an inch possible. A year ago, we had mostly sunny skies. The high last year was 41 degrees. The record high of 69 was set in 1964. Not exactly a hot day even back then. 6 inches of snow fell back in 1886.❄

Cool this weekend with temperatures running 10 degrees below normal but otherwise sunny. πŸ˜€ Saturday, partly sunny, with a high near 42. I’ll take that. Sunday, partly sunny, with a high near 33. Maybe I will head out of town this weekend to the Adirondacks for some snow camping and skiing. Going to be very cold up north with all the snow but I have the heater and will bundle up. Typical average high for the weekend is 47 degrees.

I think truck cap camping is done until spring as the snow is setting in early.β›Ί It’s good for the deer hunters tracking deer but not so good for getting into the back country with a truck. I can certainly hot tent camp but with my little plastic sled I’m limited to how far I can drag gear back in the woods.

I got grocery shopping today, got down to the library for podcasts, aired back up my tires except for the one I couldn’t reach with the cord to bring up to the proper pressure (fix tomorrow), went for a nice walk, did some reading and got other projects done. All and all I thought it was a productive day. 👍

Back to work tomorrow, traveling out of town again tomorrow in the evening, heading back out to Central New York for a few days. 🚗 I am a little worried about the threat of snow and icy roads but it looks like the timing will mean that I will miss the worse of it when I’m on the road. ❄

One thing that is frustrating is that I misplaced my small gage wire stripper, which has put my electronics project on hold for now. βœ‚ I used it for something I was fixing on my truck but it wouldn’t work for that job as it’s only works with the very fine wires I use for my electronics projects. Unfortunately it’s the kind of thing I can only really get online as Radio Shack is no more locally.

I keep finding yellow jackets in my apartment. 🐝 When I got back last week there was a bunch of dead ones on the floor, and each time I turn up the heat I find a one or two more around. Hopefully I don’t have a nest inside somewhere that will become reactivated come spring time.

I’ve been posting more essays lately with my thoughts. I will be the first to admit some of my ideas are controversial but that’s intentional.📰 I’m tired of hearing the conventional wisdom in the news, I think long sacred cows need to be challenged. Phil Ochs is my idol. 🎸

In four weeks on December 10 the sun will be setting at 4:22 pm,🌄 which is 13 minutes and 10 seconds earlier then tonight. Pretty close to the earliest sunset of the year, only off by a few seconds. In 2017 on that day, we had snow, patches of fog, mist, mostly cloudy skies and temperatures between 36 and 18 degrees. Typically, you have temperatures between 38 and 23 degrees. The record high of 64 degrees was set back in 1966.
