This morning was the Pine Bush hike 🌲but I was the only one who showed up so I enjoyed the hike by myself. Gave me more time to enjoy nature. Later on I came home, had some lunch and then had a bit of a sick stomach. 😩 Felt sick after lunch, I wonder though if it was something I ate because as quick as I was sick I started feeling better. Later on I went down to the library for a bit to upload some new maps.

This evening I had fish sticks and mixed vegatables for dinner, 🐟then rode the excerise bike for a while, 🚴maybe 45 minutes watching some YouTube videos I downloaded, 🎥then laid back in bed for a while before deciding to go for my evening walk. Figured I should get out and get as much excerise as possible before tomorrow’s rain and the busy work week ahead.💦

Should be a busy week next week with work, 🐝but I’m fine with being really busy. It’s good to get a lot of things done, it will make me feel very accomplished. And the week will go by quickly – especially with Friday being March 1st. I’m really looking forward to the snow melting and spending more nights in the wilderness.

I looked and discovered a replacement for the battery for my phone would only be $5, 📱so I think I’m going to order one. 🔋The headphone jack has been long broken on the phone, it’s always running low on memory and the power jack is on its way out but I want to wait a while before I plunk down the $50 to replace my phone. These tracphones aren’t expensive to replace but I hate to spend money and throw away something that I can get more from use out of despite its flaws. Works good enough for me.

Despite my high heating bill last month, 💸 overall my budget was pretty much spot on as I didn’t do any big road trips or buy anything expensive. I am hoping to live within my means again this month, because I’m sure come April I will be traveling a lot again, and those camping trips and nights in the wilderness ain’t cheap even if they are special to me. 🌌 Big Red is thirsty, and all that beer and food adds up. Although who knows, I’ve really cut back on drinking in the past year.

This morning when I walked down to Stewart’s to buy milk, ☕the air had a tinge of manure 🐮 and wood smoke on it,🔥during this most cloudy of mornings prior to the snow and ice coming down later. ☁ I don’t really live in the country any more but on the outskirts of the suburbs as they start to peter out to the countryside.

After getting milk and having a breakfast of frozen fruit🍛🍒🍌 and cereal I walked down to the express bus. 🚌 I actually didn’t end up needing the milk today, but maybe tomorrow. Bus was running a little late, which was fine, it showed up but then we hit more traffic heading into the plaza. I don’t care that much about it, I’m not driving.

I’ll take 63 degrees for sure any day now. We are due for a spring thaw anytime🌱 now, maybe a bit later this week although I doubt we will see the sixties anytime soon. But we don’t talk about the history anymore.

But actually, Ward Stone is coming to talk about another state proposal, re-powering the old ANSWERS incinerator to work as a micro-grid power plant, that will burn natural gas for generations to come, as the climate warms,  🌍 to heat and cool the Empire Plaza and other state office buildings, and also generate electricity for the buildings, as an alternative to grid power — and act as a “jump start pack” for the electric grid, which may become more unstable 🔌 both when the climate becomes more unstable and more renewables are put on it.

Times change, and sometimes opportunities that once existed suddenly. So definitely come to the Pine Bush dinner, before it’s late. 🍽  6 PM tonight is the dinner, 7 PM is the free lecture. I think the dinner costs like $12 but I usually end up throwing in $15 or $20 for it.  Should be a great evening.

Last night’s commute wasn’t too bad. 🚗🚗🚗🚃🚌🚐🚒🚚🚛 Traffic actually was pretty light due to the holiday weekend. I thought about cooking up some pasta for dinner, but decided on fish sticks and broccoli, as I wanted something different, as tonight is the Save the Pine Bush Dinner. 🐟 Laid back for a while, ate dinner, then hopped on the exercise bike. Really wasn’t that hungry,

Then I thought about going down to the library but decided that it would be a would be nice to go for a walk in the evening around 8 pm. 🚶In the meantime I decided to ride the exercise bike for an hour while listening to Fresh Air podcast with Andrew McCabe formerly of the FBI and then a video about about Core Memory. 🎧 I heard it first on the radio starting, but put on the podcast, so I could listen over my bluetooth headphones while on the bike. I’ll have to ask my neighbor if he can hear the rumble of the bike the next time I see him, but I try not to ride the bike much after 8:30 most nights.

Around 8:30 I went for my evening walk under the beautiful snow moon. 🌕 No problem walking in the darkness, plenty of light and the sidewalks were free of ice and snow for the most part. Pretty night but fairly cold but at least the wind had died down. 🍃 It was cold, but not that cold. That said, I’m certainly looking forward to nicer weather, sitting out back with a cold glass of orange juice 🍊 or maybe ice water with a drop of lemon juice in it.🍋

Came home and laid in bed watching a few YouTube videos🎥 I had previously downloaded, one about thermal storage of heat, 🔥 one about stocking rate of cattle on ranches, 🐮and one about off grid living. Then I took my contacts out and retired for the night. 👁I do like how the lights automatically remind me when it’s time for bed, automatically dimming at 10:10 pm😴. It really helps when you get to bed at a proper hour for boosting your sleep. I always try to bed down by the time the lights start dimming at 10:10 pm. It really is a good reminder.

I am definitely looking forward to those longer nights in a month with dusk not being until after 7:30 pm🕗 and hopefully for some warmer nights when I can sit out back, looking up at the stars. ✨ Usually I work on a blog post out back in the warmer weather, although now that I’ve built a system for downloading videos, I might actually watch one of the videos from the channels I’ve downloaded. Honestly, I’m not a big fan of staring at a screen, but I listen to them, and are learning a lot about many different topics, expanding my knowledge and hopefully my future.

I am a bit worried about ice again, so if your joining us, bring your microspikes. Skis might not work well.

I ended up staying home for most of the day, working on a very unsuccessful mapping project and watching some videos I previously downloaded.🚶 Then I went for a walk down to the rail trail around dusk and got home around 6:30. For all the upgrades they’ve done for pedestrians in time, street lighting could use some better aiming in parts. On the rail trail it was really icy, I was surprised, I slipped a bit and didn’t think much about it but now my ankle is sore. 👟 I took some Tylenol, I’m sure I’ll be better by morning.

Made dinner read a bit, played on my phone, uploaded some pictures and now I’m in bed. Dinner was some pork roast which had frozen like a brick so I had no idea what the lump was until it thawed out in the oven. 🍲 Stuffing was a bit dry but despite all the freezer burn the pork roast was still juicy and good. It was literally a massive block of ice when I put it in the oven, I was surprised how good it was when I pulled it out out. Not sure how old it was.

I thought about going out camping but I decided against that. With the wind that howled around for most of the day and just the snow on the ground and all the effort to haul all the gear back in the woods, especially with nicer weather expected come a few more weeks.⛺ We certainly could have some 50 degrees days come March and I might not have to deal with snow. I much prefer to use the camper on my truck and be warm enough not to need the heater. I did plenty of winter camping in December, so I’m not all that thrilled about heading out at this point. Plus money is always tight and I’m always trying to save a bit more for tomorrow and keep miles off my truck.

This morning I slept in and did a fair bit of cleaning and working on some code on my laptop. 🚿 Been so dang busy lately that I’m enjoying my day off. I’m also really digging the warmer weather and being able to cut the heat while remaining quite comfortable.

Today I have to go to the store and return my beer cans and buy some groceries. I should also take out the trash and recyclables as the bucket is getting full and something us starting to rot. 🍐🍌I have enough room for now to store the recycling before I have to go to the transfer station. ♻Probably won’t need a lot of groceries but I want to have enough food and supplies so I won’t have to go anywhere this week. I’m expecting a less busy week this week but still a lot of late nights.

Lunch is next onmy agenda. 🍗 I was thinking about going out cross country skiing today at Partridge Run but the skies are already pretty dark and depressing. 🙁And honestly I’ve been so busy so I need some time to clean and recover. Yesterday I reglued and clamped my boots so hopefully they’ll hold up well skiing. I should work on the tips of my skis next as they are coming apart a bit too. 👢Imaybe it wait to next weekend and let the boots dry more and also glue the tips of the skis, assuming there is snow come next weekend. 🏂

I was happy I could easily replace the broken sound jack in my laptop. Easy fix once I stumbled upon how inexpensive and easy to access part it was to install when I was upgrading to the SSD drive.🔧 The broken headphone jack was annoying even if the external USB audio dongle worked just fine, and indeed when I’m home I’m sure I’ll just use my computer speakers powered by that device🎧.

I got my hair cut and that came out nicely but I may need to adjust my sideburns slightly.💈 Had a nice breakfast with my parents at Jake Moons Cafe. After visiting my niece for a while, I went down to the library for the internet, then came home watched some short YouTube videos I had downloaded, while riding the exercise bike, worked on some code on my laptop, went for my evening walk around the super block pass the school, then came back home.🚶 Fish sticks again tonight, I still have a lot left in the mega bag I bought.🍤 They’re not the most favorable fish sticks ever but with good fries, ketchup and lots of frozen sweet corn they’re pretty good and not a lot of packaging.

I’m continuing to work on my new LED driver. With the more power processor with the esp32 microprocessor and growing skills at programming the processors and use of the Bluetooth communication protocol, I’ve been working on a complete rewrite of the code. ♋I finally got the code to the point of having the sunset and sunrise modes I enjoy to remind myself of when I need to get up and go to bed,🌆 and I’ve started but not completed the hooks for the timer so the virtual sunset and sunrise happens automatically. Hopefully I’ll have that part working by the time I get up on Monday morning. I’ve also been working on various improvements to the color models and switching between colors to make them less jagged🎢. I haven’t started on the updated smartphone app, I’ve just been using the Arduino Bluetooth app to send plain text codes to operate things for now. Eventually it will be a full app with the ease of point and click, probably finished by spring time when I’ll be spending more time in the wilderness.

Looking ahead, there are 5 weeks until Daylight Savings Time 🌆 when the sun will be setting at 6:56 pm with dusk at 7:24 pm (Daylight Savings Time). On that day in 2018, we had mostly sunny, snow showers and temperatures between 38 and 29 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 42 degrees. I bet we might even have warmer weather by then too. We hit a record high of 72 back in 1977.

Looking ahead, it’s going to be fairly cool but sunny next weekend. 😕 Saturday, mostly sunny, with a high near 23. Typical average high for the weekend is 33 degrees. Not totally sure what I will next weekend.

Next weekend is the Adirondack Outdoorsman show in Johnstown.🌲 I might drive up there next weekend and then maybe head up to NY 8 for a night in the wilderness depending on how much snow there is. That said, I don’t know. It’s kind of a long trip for one night and it’s quite a ways north. I’ll have to think about it some more. It’s a fun little show but it’s a bit of a trip especially for just the show or even just one night of camping. Trying to save money so I have more money for my summer adventures. ⛺

In four weeks on March 3 the sun will be setting at 5:47 pm,🌄 which is 35 minutes and 51 seconds later then today. In 2018 on that day, we had partly cloudy and temperatures between 42 and 32 degrees. Typically, you have temperatures between 39 and 21 degrees. The record high of 64 degrees was set back in 2002.

I’m glad the Ground Hog saw his shadow and warmer weather is promised. 🌷It’s been much too cold lately and it’s sucks with the heating bills and not being able to get out and walk as much as I would like. That said I went for a pretty pleasant walk tonight. 🚶But I do look forward to being warm enough to sit out back with a cold glass of orange juice or water, 🍊and obviously to spend nice evenings in the wilderness up at camp, having a cold beer next to the fire.🔥
