June 9, 2019 Night

Good evening! Partly clear and 71 degrees in Delmar, NY. There is a south breeze at 7 mph. ๐Ÿƒ. The dew point is 48 degrees.

So far this is the most pleasant evening of the year for sitting out back. ๐ŸŽ‘Not too hot or cold and lots of moonlight while I watch a mixture of artificial and real fireflies outback. Maybe I’m stupid but I sure like watching those laser light fireflies. I didn’t see any ground fireworks at Walmart but they must be selling them as I’m hearing occasional bangs around. Not that lighting off fireworks is an appropriate activity in the suburbs but America. ๐ŸŽ‡ Crickets are chirping as is a very noisy heat pump groaning from the high end apartment down the road.

Everything on my list got done this weekend ๐Ÿ“ƒ. Well except maybe for working on John Wolcott’s history project but I’ve put in a lot of time in that so it can wait a few weeks until I have more free time besides work. The truck got washed ๐Ÿ›€ , groceries bought. Including a a special treat for the hot weather – orange juice. ๐ŸŠI get that orange juice is super sugary but it’s better than drinking beer or eating too much ice cream. I also try to drink lots of water with a drop of lemon juice or cider vinegar.

I also bought more drain solvent and my bathroom sink is working again for now. ๐Ÿ˜Š All the plumbing in my relatively cheap apartment is problematic, plungers and drain solvent are just part of life. Shower gas never gone more than a week or two without needing the plunger as long as I’ve lived here for the decade plus. Maybe it’s because I’m so dirty always bringing mud in. Yet another reason I prefer outhouses and very simple plumbing. ๐Ÿšฝ

Tonight will be partly cloudy ๐ŸŒค, with a low of 51 degrees at 5am. Four degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical night around May 29th. Not surprising with the low humidity. But good sleeping at least for tonight Maximum dew point of 48 at 9pm. South wind 5 to 7 mph. In 2018, we had mostly clear skies in the evening, which became partly cloudy by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 54 degrees. The record low of 36 occurred back in 1975.

Tonight will have a First Quarter with 60% illuminated. The moon will set at 1:40 am. Little bit of haze around the moon though. The Strawberry Moon ๐ŸŒ is next Sunday. Been so cold and wet not many strawberry ๐Ÿ“ for sale yet. Or even daisies ๐ŸŒผ along the roadside. For you early risers, the sun will rise at 5:17 am with the first light at 4:42 am, which is 11 seconds earlier than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ„ I was watching a farm channel the other day, recorded at 5:30 in the morning and it was pretty bright out then. ๐Ÿ”† I really watch too much agriculture YouTube these days. But farming is such interesting business. Tonight will have 8 hours and 45 minutes of darkness, a decrease of 44 seconds over last night. Not going to loose much more night time from where we are now as summer is coming. And 15 weeks from today will be autumn. ๐Ÿ Even though the black flies are bad now in 12-14 weeks it will be peak color in the Moose River Plains.

Tomorrow will rain likely, mainly after 2pm. Increasing clouds ๐ŸŒง, with a high of 68 degrees at 11am. Nine degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical day around May 12th. Maximum dew point of 60 at 6pm. South wind 6 to 8 mph. Chance of precipitation is 70%. New precipitation amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch possible. A year ago, we had mostly sunny skies. The high last year was 78 degrees. The record high of 96 was set in 2008.

I will drop my truck off at the dealership tomorrow for the oil change and tire rotation. ๐Ÿš˜ Easy enough to do for sure, they’re the cheapest place around and I’m not lifting those 35 inch tires myself. Last oil change was in August because I drive so few miles during the winter. I do make sure though to keep the oil topped off when it is low. I used to do my own oil changes but it’s not worth the hassle. If I had my own land I might do it and it’s not a big deal on small engines or even tractors but it’s a pain crawling under my truck. I shouldn’t speak. I do remember that diasterous oil change on a $100,000 big John Deere farm tractor ๐Ÿšœ (bigger tractor than nearly any farmer in New York would use outside of the Genesee Valley) on Millennial MN Farmers YouTube with the filter they couldn’t get off except with a grinder and a tap and die. Instead tomorrow, I’ll just drop it off before work and take the bus downtown. Let the experts do it.

While it’s a long ways off, NOAA is pretty optimistic about the weekend. ๐Ÿ˜• Saturday, scattered showers. Partly sunny, with a high near 76. Chance of precipitation is 30%. Maximum dew point of 56 at 6pm. Sunday, partly sunny, with a high near 77. Maximum dew point of 57 at 11am. Typical average high for the weekend is 78 degrees.

If the weather is nice I may head up to the Adirondacks next weekend. ๐Ÿ—ป There is a possibility that I may have to work, physically in the office next weekend but I’m hoping that I can just camp somewhere I have cellphone ๐Ÿ“ฑ reception and just work from my phone with a cold beer in one hand, laying back in the hammock.

This week I’ll order the wire to run the hot from the battery in the bed of my truck directly to the non switched terminal of the low voltage disconnect โšก so it is protected from under voltage by the LVD. I’m also going to hook up the shunt and meter on the panel so that I can monitor how much solar power I’m producing. Also plan to hook up another always on USB outlet back there to keep my little battery I ordered fully charged so I can charge my phone when I’m backpacking or at a swimming pool. I really want to do at least some back country camping this summer. โ›บ Lean-to or hammock. So many damn wires but I try to keep them neat with ties and things are properly fused. I’m learning a lot and while the panels, batteries and inverters are much bigger for an off grid cabin, at some point I’ll be blessed by living out in the country again. ๐Ÿฎ

In four weeks on July 7 the sun will be setting at 8:35 pm,๐ŸŒ„ which is 3 minutes and 12 seconds later then tonight. In 2018 on that day, we had sunny skies and temperatures between 80 and 51 degrees. Typically, you have temperatures between 82 and 61 degrees. The record high of 97 degrees was set back in 1988.

Looking ahead, Fathers Day ๐Ÿ‘จ is in 1 week, National Nude Day ๐Ÿ‘ฑ is in 5 weeks (hopefully warm enough by then for skinny dipping), Sunset Before 7:30 PM ๐ŸŒ† is in 12 weeks, Autumn ๐Ÿ‚ is in 15 weeks and Average High is 60 ๐Ÿ‚ is in 18 weeks.

Good evening! Mostly clear and 69 degrees in Delmar, NY. There is a west-northwest breeze at 7 mph. ๐Ÿƒ. The dew point is 48 degrees. Nice evening, fairly mild but not humid. It wouldn’t have been a bad thing to head up north but it’s kind of nice no having to deal with traffic or setting up camp.

After a busy day at work, it was nice reading down at the park until around 8:15 when some kind of pool party got started at the pool and they were playing music. ๐ŸŽถ So I decided to walk home. Been reading more of the Richard Hofstadter book ๐Ÿ“™ I was reading last night.

Sitting out back watching a movie about life up in Alaska mainly because I discovered this Alaska Off Grid channel online and its interesting to watch. ๐Ÿ“น Beautiful country for sureThe bugs were bad tonight until I put on a little DEET. I also was watching Wrangler Star try to burn out a stump quite unsuccessfully.

Tonight will be clear ๐ŸŒƒ, with a low of 53 degrees at 5am. One degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical night around June 5th. Maximum dew point of 50 at 11pm. Northwest wind 3 to 7 mph. In 2018, we had mostly clear skies. It got down to 58 degrees. The record low of 38 occurred back in 1951.

Tonight will have a Waxing Crescent Moon ๐ŸŒ’ with 37% illuminated with the moon setting at 12:29 am. The moon will set at 1:00 am. The First Quarter Moon is on Sunday night with a mostly cloudy then chance of showers skies. The Strawberry Moon ๐ŸŒ is on Sunday, June 16th. The sun will rise at 5:17 am with the first light at 4:43 am, which is 16 seconds earlier than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ„ Tonight will have 8 hours and 46 minutes of darkness, a decrease of 52 seconds over last night.

Tomorrow will be sunny ๐ŸŒž, with a high of 81 degrees at 4pm. Five degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical day around June 26th. But not a drop out humidity. Maximum dew point of 49 at 7am. North wind 7 to 9 mph. A year ago, we had mostly sunny skies in the morning with a few breaks of sun the afternoon. The high last year was 80 degrees. The record high of 93 was set in 2011.

Tomorrow I plan to volunteer in the National Trails Day ๐Ÿšถthen maybe hike up Bennett Hill before going out to my parents house for Sunday dinner on Saturday. Going to a beautiful, low humidity day for sure.

Looking ahead to Sunday, sunny, with a high near 82. Calm wind becoming south around 6 mph in the afternoon. Maximum dew point of 53 at 7pm. Typical average high for the weekend is 76 degrees.

Sunday I’ll probably do the Gas Up ๐Ÿšœ and then go shopping and wash my truck. Maybe go over to John Wolcott’s house but we’ll see. Only so many hours in the day. I want to have time to prepare things at home for a busy week at work that’s coming up.

I’m on call this weekend ๐Ÿ“ž and I may have to work next weekend but so be it. Still twelve weekends until Labor Day Weekend so lots of summer is left. I might do more long weekends this summer for camping rather than just weekend trips all of the time, so fewer packing and unpacking but more nights in the wilderness. โ›บ I’m tired of the same adventures every day, looking to do new and different things this summer while keeping within my fairly constrained but future focused budget. ๐Ÿ’ธ

In four weeks on July 5 the sun will be setting at 8:36 pm,๐ŸŒ„ which is 5 minutes and 5 seconds later then tonight. In 2018 on that day, we had hot, humid, mostly sunny, thunderstorm and temperatures between 92 and 75 degrees. Typically, you have temperatures between 82 and 61 degrees. The record high of 99 degrees was set back in 1919.

Looking ahead, Flag Day ๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ is in 1 weeks, Dog Days of Summer ๐ŸŒป is in 4 weeks, Labor Day Weekend Begins ๐Ÿ‘จโ€๐Ÿญ is in 12 weeks and Columbus Day ๐Ÿ›ฅ๏ธ is in 4 months.

I should get to bed early as I need to get an early start tomorrow for the trail work day, ๐Ÿ”จ followed by some hiking later on.

Sunday

June 6, 2019 Night

Good evening! Partly clear and 67 degrees in Delmar, NY. โœจ Calm wind. The dew point is 57 degrees. More clouds pushed in after dark than in expected. Buggy too.

Listening to Joe Cocker’s With a Little Help from My Friends watching the flicker of the laser lightening bug show with the occasional lightening bug. ๐Ÿ There is not a lot this year because it’s been so cold and damp and probably because it seems like insects are disappearing everywhere. Mosquitos are fairly bad though.

Busy and hectic at work but I think I do a good job at my work. ๐Ÿ’ผ Greater pay and responsibilities means I work harder for my money. ๐Ÿ’ต But I have a talented staff I work with and we do great things I believe. This evening I got home around six, had dinner and went down to the park and re-read part of a Richard Hofstadter I haven’t read ๐Ÿ“– since my college years. I forgot the true pleasure of being down at the library with a book. Most of the time I leave my laptop at work on the weekdays, as I like to have it in the office when I have some downtime and want to check Facebook or my blog without using the state computers.

Tonight will be mostly clear ๐ŸŒƒ, with a low of 55 degrees at 5am. One degree above normal, which is similar to a typical night around June 9th. Maximum dew point of 57 at 9pm. Light northwest wind. In 2018, we had mostly clear skies. It got down to 51 degrees. The record low of 37 occurred back in 1958.

Tonight will have a Waxing Crescent Moon ๐ŸŒ’ with 26% illuminated with the moon setting at 11:45 pm. The moon will rise at 9:33 am. The First Quarter Moon is on Sunday night with mostly cloudy skies. The Strawberry Moon ๐ŸŒ is on Sunday, June 16th. The sun will rise at 5:18 am with the first light at 4:43 am, which is 17 seconds earlier than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ„ Tonight will have 8 hours and 47 minutes of darkness, a decrease of 56 seconds over last night.

Tomorrow will be sunny ๐ŸŒž, with a high of 78 degrees at 4pm. Two degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical day around June 14th. Maximum dew point of 53 at 8am. Northwest wind 3 to 5 mph. A year ago, we had partly cloudy skies in the morning, remaining cloudy in the afternoon. The high last year was 75 degrees. The record high of 95 was set in 1999.

I’m thinking tomorrow I want to get an early start and either walk ๐Ÿšถ or take a bus down to the barber shop ๐Ÿ’ˆfor a haircut so I look good for the end of session. My hair has gotten shaggy and I like to look nice unlike some of the people I follow on YouTube. Some of those farmers and off griders are a motley bunch.

A picture perfect weekend on tap. ๐Ÿ˜Ž Saturday, sunny, with a high near 79. North wind 3 to 5 mph. Maximum dew point of 53 at 7am. Sunday, sunny, with a high near 81. Maximum dew point of 57 at 4pm. Typical average high for the weekend is 76 degrees.

Maybe I should have decided to head out of town this weekend but after all the rain and the mild spring, I figure the black flies will be bad. ๐Ÿœ Summer isn’t over yet plus I’m going to not be so busy with work this autumn so I should have plenty of time to camp. The trail work day should be fun on Saturday and maybe do the Gas Up on Sunday. โ˜€ I’m hoping the next week will be good.

I ordered another camping hammock. It was a pretty cheap one but the reviews were fairly good for the price. ๐Ÿ˜ด It’s inexpensive enough that if it doesn’t work out I can get one a little more expensive but I’m hopeful based on the reviews. I have the good straps from the other hammock. I like laying back in the hammock at camp. Price doesn’t always demote quality. Certainly wasn’t the cheapest model but much less than the first one. If it works out I’ll order a second one to keep as a back up. Worth the money when you consider how much I spend on gasoline and supplies while camping.

Next weekend I’m hoping looks nice to get up to the Adirondacks but it’s really too hard to know the weather or work schedule ten days out. ๐Ÿ’ญ Anything could happen by then. This weekend though staying home meant I could relax and not have to worry about packing up for camp. Two weekends from now Mine Killl pool will be open which is fun.

In four weeks on July 4 the sun will be setting at 8:36 pm,๐ŸŒ„ which is 6 minutes later then tonight. In 2018 on that day, we had hot, humid, mostly sunny weather and temperatures between 96 and 71 degrees. Typically, you have temperatures between 82 and 61 degrees. The record high of 104 degrees was set back in 1911.

I wonder if they will have sparklers ๐ŸŽ‡ and the alike at the store the next time I shop. They would be fun to take camping the next time I’m up in the wilderness or even save for lighting off when I’m at Moose Plains for the Independence Weekend.

Looking ahead, Summer ๏ธโ›ฑ๏ธ is in 2 weeks, Independence Day ๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ is in 4 weeks, August ๐ŸŒป is in 8 weeks and Last Sunset After 7 PM ๐ŸŒ† is in 17 weeks.

Sunsets Through the Trees

June 5, 2019 Night

Good evening! Rain and 70 degrees in Delmar, NY. โ˜” Calm wind. The dew point is 61 degrees. First real summer night for sure. Long day at work, I ended up taking the nine o’clock home. ๐Ÿก

I really like how they have displayed the pride flag over the Capitol ๐Ÿณ๏ธโ€๐ŸŒˆ in commemoration of the fiftieth anniversary of the Stonewell Rebellion. Certainly in some ways society has come so far in the past half century, even if in other parts like race relationships or even the rural urban divide we’ve made a lot less progress. Too much of society is about our own tribes and forcing our will over other tribes, too little is about mutual respect for diversity and people different than ourselves. Later in the week I want to bring in my high resolution camera and get a picture of the flag. It’s really a beautiful flag, especially when blue skies return.

Tonight will have showers likely before 11pm, then showers and possibly a thunderstorm between 11pm and 3am, then showers likely after 3am. Some of the storms could produce heavy rain. ๐ŸŒง Low of 64 degrees at 5am. Eight degrees above normal. Maximum dew point of 63 at 1am. ๐Ÿ–๏ธ Calm wind. Chance of precipitation is 80%. New rainfall amounts between three quarters and one inch possible. In 2018, we had cloudy skies in the evening, which became partly cloudy by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 48 degrees. The record low of 38 occurred back in 1971.

Tonight will have a Waxing Crescent Moon ๐ŸŒ’ with 17% illuminated. The moon will rise at 8:24 am. The First Quarter Moon is on Sunday night. The Strawberry Moon ๐ŸŒ is on Sunday, June 16th. The sun will rise at 5:18 am with the first light at 4:43 am, which is 20 seconds earlier than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ„ Tonight will have 8 hours and 48 minutes of darkness, a decrease of 59 seconds over last night.

Tomorrow will have a chance of showers, mainly before 2pm. Cloudy through mid morning, then gradual clearing ๐ŸŒฆ, with a high of 76 degrees at 5pm. One degree above normal, which is similar to a typical day around June 7th. Pretty close to summer weather. Maximum dew point of 63 at 7am. Light and variable wind becoming northwest around 5 mph in the morning. Chance of precipitation is 30%. New precipitation amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch possible. A year ago, we had light rain in the morning with some clearing in the afternoon. The high last year was 72 degrees. The record high of 94 was set in 1925.

A picture perfect weekend on tap. ๐Ÿ˜Ž Saturday, sunny, with a high near 78. Maximum dew point of 51 at 8am. Sunday, sunny, with a high near 80. Maximum dew point of 56 at 6pm. Typical average high for the weekend is 76 degrees. Definitely going to try to maximize the weekend even if I’m not heading out of town to camp. Hopefully this nice weather will be back for a second round the following weekend.

In four weeks on July 3 the sun will be setting at 8:36 pm,๐ŸŒ„ which is 6 minutes and 55 seconds later then tonight. In 2018 on that day, we had hot, humid, mostly sunny and temperatures between 94 and 74 degrees. Typically, you have temperatures between 82 and 61 degrees. The record high of 102 degrees was set back in 1911.

Looking ahead, Last Day of Session ๐Ÿ› is in 2 weeks, Dog Days of Summer ๐ŸŒป is a month away, Altamont Fair Opens ๐ŸŽก is in 10 weeks, State Fair Opens ๐ŸŽก is in 11 weeks, September 11th ๐Ÿ‡ธ is in 14 weeks, More Night then Day ๐ŸŒŒ is in 16 weeks and Inauguration Day 2021 ๐Ÿ‘ด๐Ÿป is in 85 weeks.

Sail Boat

June 3, 2019 Night

Good evening! Mostly clear ๐ŸŒƒ and 54 degrees in Delmar, NY. There is a west breeze at 9 mph. ๐Ÿƒ. A bit of a chilly evening but not that bad for June. My Monday headache returned this evening, I think I might just be allergic to Mondays.

Tonight will be mostly clear ๐ŸŒƒ, with a low of 45 degrees at 3am. Eight degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical night around May 10th. West wind 5 to 9 mph. Chilly night for sure but not record breaking cold. In 2018, we had cloudy skies. It got down to 48 degrees. The record low of 36 occurred back in 1947.

The Strawberry Moon ๐ŸŒ is on Sunday, June 16th. The sun will rise at 5:19 am with the first light at 4:44 am, which is 24 seconds earlier than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ„ Tonight will have 8 hours and 50 minutes of darkness, a decrease of one minute and 6 seconds over last night.

The record high of 97 was set in 1919.

It seems like I’m not detecting the signal on the external temperature sensor I hooked up the other day. ๐Ÿ˜• I’ll figure it out eventually. Probably just a loose wire or bad connection.

I checked the truck cap and all is doing well with the battery. ๐Ÿ”‹ While it was particularly bright and sunny today, everything seems well charged and no odors from hydrogen. I’ll keep an eye on it though. Looking forward to trying it out at camp in a few weeks.

Weekend still looks pretty good. ๐Ÿ˜Ž Saturday, sunny, with a high near 76. Maximum dew point of 52 at 6pm. Sunday, mostly sunny, with a high near 76. Maximum dew point of 54 at 12pm. Typical average high for the weekend is 76 degrees.

I think I will do some trail work volunteering on Saturday and maybe the Gas Up on Sunday with dad. โ›ฝ It wouldn’t be a terrible weekend to go up North but maybe I’ll wait another week. Then next Monday is the oil change followed by the work picnic the following Tuesday.

In four weeks on July 1 the sun will be setting at 8:37 pm,๐ŸŒ„ which is 8 minutes and 43 seconds later then tonight. Campsite Along Red River

June 2, 2019 Night

Good evening! Partly cloudy and 61 degrees in Dormansville, NY. โ›… There is a west-northwest breeze at 9 mph. ๐Ÿƒ. The dew point is 56 degrees. Not a terrible evening but the temperature is dropping quickly after a pretty warm day, especially mid-day. It didn’t get up to 80 degrees in my apartment today, but it did play around 79.5 degrees or so. Close enough, I guess. It wasn’t a bad weekend for sticking in town, and I got done the things that I needed to get done this weekend. Tonight, I’m staying over at the parents house with my truck camper. It’s a bit chilly of an evening, but not that bad.

It was kind of a busy weekend for me with all my projects, so I didn’t get out and do much big hikes,๐Ÿšถin part because every time I wanted to go out it looked like the sky could open up any minute.โ›ˆ I kind of got wet last night doing my evening walk, but it was nice earlier in the day on Saturday hiking in the Pine Bush, despite all of the stress of figuring out the battery thing and trying to return the hammock. ๐ŸŒฒ Those fields of lupine where beautiful! I accomplished most of my goals for the weekend. A few work things too, butย  they weren’t a big hassle and are just part of doing business this time of year.

Tonight will be partly cloudy ๐ŸŒค, with a low of 48 degrees at 5am. Five degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical night around May 20th. Northwest wind 5 to 9 mph becoming calm after midnight. In 2018, we had partly cloudy skies in the evening, which became cloudy by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 58 degrees. The record low of 36 occurred back in 1986.

Tonight will have a New Moon.๐ŸŒ‘ The Strawberry Moon ๐ŸŒ is in 2 weeks. The sun will rise at 5:20 am with the first light at 4:46 am, which is 26 seconds earlier than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ„ Tonight will have 8 hours and 52 minutes of darkness, a decrease of one minute and 9 seconds over last night.

Tomorrow will have isolated showers after 2pm. Mostly sunny ๐ŸŒž, with a high of 61 degrees at 1pm. 14 degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical day around April 22nd. West wind 8 to 18 mph, with gusts as high as 30 mph. Chance of precipitation is 20%. A year ago, we had mostly sunny skies. The high last year was 76 degrees. The record high of 97 was set in 1925.

Today I added EEPROM functions to my display in my bedroom, adding the ability to record the daily high temperature and low temperature, along with maximum dew point and all time high and low. I also finished soldering on the waterproof temperature probe which I hooked up outside my bedroom ๐ŸŒก– and downloaded the libraries that I will need to make it work.โš™ I’m hoping to find some time to write code to add those functions to my display. I also ordered a few barometric pressure sensors from China (42 cents a piece!) as it would be nice to have that on my display in my bedroom — I”d like to be warned when a storm is approaching and the pressure is dropping, and likewise when fair conditions are expected. Sure I could get that information from the Internet and feed it into the display, except I choose not to have Internet at home except for my smartphone. Could I write an Android app to beam that up to my display — probably — but I don’t feel like digging that deep into the API.๐Ÿ’ป It’s kind of a crude display, but I find it entertaining to have all kinds of facts and silly quotes and the alike beaming across my room to my bed.

I didn’t have a lot of new and exciting content for the blog, although I did post a bunch of essays I’ve been working on over time, some of them a bit more political, but that’s fine. Tonight I tried to catch up, with a bunch of new content. I like to share my thoughts, and if they aren’t for you, that’s fine, feel free to skip on past them for other content or filter out just the maps and photos. I installed that second battery in my truck, which should make for much better results when doing extended camping trips, especially in shaded campsites. I probably should re-work or make some more maps up, but I’m kind of running out of ideas for maps for New York and I don’t really want to gather all the data necessary to make maps up of other states, especially places I don’t know well.๐Ÿ—บ

I am very happy with how things are preforming with the second accessory battery in the truck, as I noted earlier. ๐Ÿ”‹ While I haven’t really stressed the system yet with a heavy load at camp, it does seem like things are working really well, with stable voltages in the truck cap, and lots of storage so I should be able to go multiple nights, even in cloudy or rainy weather without having to start up the truck. Many times, especially when driving on nice days with the kayak off the roof of my truck, I think I’ll be able to leave the accessory power for the truck cap, CB radio, phone, and dashcam entirely disconnected from the alternator — solar does everything. That will keep the batteries from being overcharged or unbalanced and minimize the load on the alternator. I’ve notice no odors or issues from the battery being located in my sleeping unit.

Next weekend looks like it might be perfect weather-wise. ๐Ÿ˜Ž Next Saturday, sunny, with a high near 76. Maximum dew point of 52 at 7pm. Next Sunday, partly sunny, with a high near 75. Maximum dew point of 56 at 5pm. Typical average high for the weekend is 76 degrees. I’m not planning to head out of town next weekend but I could change my mind. I’m thinking in participating in one of the trail day events, and maybe the Gas Up on Sunday. I could go out camping but I think I’d rather wait. I’ll have o think about it some more, but I expect a busy week this week, so I don’t want to be running around to head out of town this weekend. Plus, I honestly don’t trust we will have real nice weather by next weekend, as the forecast will certainly shift downward, as so often happens with the weekend forecasts lately. I guess I could head out of town next weekend, but I just don’t see it likely, as I kind of want to be home early on Sunday as Monday is my oil change/tire rotation day (NOT a SESSION DAY!).

I’ll have to research some hammocks to replace the ripped one. I’m very disappointed about the quality of the LL Bean one I bought but I’ve seen a lot of affordable options on the Internet — affordable for me being sub-$50. If you pay premium, you’d hope they stand behind their products. But corporate profits are more important now. I probably would like to have to relax and maybe camp in by the next time I head out of town in two weeks or so.๐Ÿ’ค The one I had was a disaster ever since I bought it, so I’m going to look at alternatives. I have the straps and the carbineners, so I just need the hammock itself. And I like the hammocks enough, that even if I have to replace them time to time, I guess it’s worth it. Maybe I’ll be gentler on my next one. Figuring gasing up my truck costs over $60, I can’t complain that much about other ordinary camping expenses.

The stuff I’ve bought from LL Bean lately has been all crap lately,๐Ÿ’ฉ so I’m thinking I’ll probably just cancel my credit card with them, and take full advantage of the bank rewards card I currently use with the cash back. I’ve earned like $200 in statement credits over the past year with that card — just buying the normal things I buy like gas, food and supplies, and I don’t spend a lot of money.๐Ÿ’ณ It’s not a lot of money, but it’s still nice to gather a few pennies for things I was going to buy at rate. I don’t go out of the way to get rewards, I just buy the ordinary stuff I need to live. It’s nice it’s just points that I can convert to statement credit on my card — and it’s real money used to pay my purchases. Not a lot, but every buck helps.

Sandy Bank of Cheney Pond

June 1, 2019 Evening

Good evening! Clearing a bit with rain showers and a few rumbles of thunder around and 74 degrees in Delmar, NY. โ˜ There is a south breeze at 8 mph. ๐Ÿƒ. The dew point is 58 degrees. The skies will clear tomorrow around 9 pm. A few fireflies around. Not a lot, they’ve been tardy with the cold spring. ๐Ÿ

We had some heavy rain for a while. I got caught out walking in the rain. โ˜” But now it has stopped and I’m sitting out back. ๐ŸšถI bought some milk and ice cream and are now sitting out back as the rain has stopped. ๐ŸจHappy Dairy Month! ๐Ÿฎ It wasn’t that bad of a day but pretty busy. Lot of little things to get done.

Tonight will be scattered showers and thunderstorms before 2am, then isolated showers between 2am and 5am. Patchy fog after 5am. Otherwise, mostly cloudy ๐ŸŒง, with a low of 61 degrees at 5am. Eight degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical night around July 3rd. Maximum dew point of 60 at 10pm. South wind 5 to 8 mph becoming calm after midnight. Chance of precipitation is 40%. New rainfall amounts of less than a tenth of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms. In 2018, we had partly cloudy skies in the evening, which became mostly clear by the early hours of the morning. It was somewhat humid. It got down to 60 degrees. The record low of 39 occurred back in 1971.

Tonight will have a New Moon. The Strawberry Moon ๐ŸŒ is on Sunday, June 16th. The sun will rise at 5:19 am with the first light at 4:45 am, which is 28 seconds earlier than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ„ Tonight will have 8 hours and 52 minutes of darkness, a decrease of one minute and 14 seconds over last night.

Tomorrow will be scattered showers and thunderstorms, then showers and possibly a thunderstorm after 1pm. Some of the storms could produce small hail and gusty winds. ๐ŸŒฆ High of 77 degrees at 3pm. Three degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical day around June 10th. Maximum dew point of 61 at 12pm. ๐Ÿ–๏ธ South wind 8 to 17 mph. Chance of precipitation is 80%. New rainfall amounts between a quarter and half of an inch possible. A year ago, we had cloudy skies in the morning with more sun in the afternoon. It was very sticky. The high last year was 78 degrees. The record high of 94 was set in 1895.

I accomplished everything I planned on doing today which was good. ๐Ÿ‘ The big thing was buying the battery ๐Ÿ”‹ and getting that hooked up, so I’ve doubled my storage for camping. The solar works well on the truck except during long cloudy periods and I’m producing enough power to really float the batteries relatively quickly. It was easy enough to tap into the bus bar although I had to exchange the first battery I got because I got the wrong size and when you get batteries to run in parallel you want the same size so they charge properly. But I got that battery returned and ended up having to go to Glenmont Walmart for the battery as only one in Albany was over a year old. The Glenmont store had a battery dated 6/19 so it must be pretty new. Granted a few things about set up isn’t perfect but I plan to experiment and with costs under $120 it’s not the end of the world. I’m continuing to learn a lot.

It was a nice walk ๐Ÿšถ today at the Albany Pine Bush Preserve with lots of lupine around. It really was fields of purple. I didn’t spend a lot of time hiking there but enough to enjoy it. Didn’t see any Karner Blues unlike I did a few weeks back but I was hiking in a different location. ๐ŸŒฒ

I tried warranting the hammock but because the rip wasn’t at seem they wouldn’t exchange it. The hammocks aren’t expensive so I’m going to try to get one online somewhere. They are a lot of fun and for under $50 are worth it. ๐Ÿ˜ That said, it won’t be an LL Bean hammock as I don’t use that credit card ๐Ÿ’ณ anymore in favor of the cash back card I have with my bank. I don’t mind that much, that LL Bean hammock was shitty from the day I got it and with my rewards card only spent $4 and the hammock straps are still good.

Hooked up the outside temperature probe for my display, ๐Ÿ“ˆ and used thin wires to sneak it out past the window screen so I can keep it hooked up with the windows closed. Unfortunately I can’t test it because I don’t have the necessary libraries to make it work. I’ll have to download them tomorrow. In the process I accidentally disconnected a wire and things stopped working but they are good now. It will be interesting to monitor the outside temperature especially as cooler weather approaches come the autumn.

Tomorrow I’m planning on going to over John Wolcott’s house ๐Ÿก to keep going through his files. ๐Ÿ“‚ I found some interesting documents from the Erastus Corning Era. Then I’ll head over to my parents house for Sunday evening dinner. ๐Ÿ—
