Good evening! Partly clear and 65 degrees in Dormansville, NY. ๐ŸŒƒ There is a northwest breeze at 13 mph. ๐Ÿƒ. Breeze is whipping around at times. The dew point is 57 degrees. Much less humid than earlier.

Tonight camping out at my parents house ๐Ÿก in my truck. Watching some YouTube videos and just finishing some debugging on the blog. ๐Ÿ› I wrote some new code to make it easier for me to post photos to the blog. ๐Ÿ“ท Nice evening but cool in the truck. I can’t believe that in two days I’ll be packing up the truck for the Adirondacks but I’m really happy with how all the electrical stuff is working.

Tonight will be partly cloudy ๐ŸŒค, with a low of 56 degrees at 4am. Four degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical night around June 14th. Maximum dew point of 57 at 9pm. Northwest wind 8 to 13 mph. In 2018, we had mostly clear skies. It became very sticky as the night progressed. It got down to 72 degrees. The record low of 45 occurred back in 1978.

Tonight will have a New Moon. The moon will rise at 4:16 am. The Buck Moon ๐ŸŒ is on Monday, July 15th. The sun will rise at 5:22 am with the first light at 4:47 am, which is 30 seconds later than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ„ Tonight will have 8 hours and 45 minutes of darkness, an increase of 38 seconds over last night.

Tomorrow will be sunny ๐ŸŒž, with a high of 76 degrees at 3pm. Five degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical day around June 9th. Maximum dew point of 59 at 1pm. Nice break from the heat. But it will be back for the second half of the week. Northwest wind 6 to 8 mph. A year ago, we had mostly sunny skies. It became humid as the day progressed. The high last year was 97 degrees. The record high of 99 was set in 1913.

In four weeks on July 28 the sun will be setting at 8:20 pm,๐ŸŒ„ which is 17 minutes and 8 seconds earlier then tonight. In 2018 on that day, we had thunderstorm and temperatures between 83 and 67 degrees. Typically, you have temperatures between 82 and 62 degrees. The record high of 99 degrees was set back in 1929.

I’m looking forward to seeing how my repaired table works out. I’m not sure how well the patch material will hold up to the abuse of getting banged around in my truck but it seems like it pounded well into the cracks. ๐ŸŽจ

So the plan is Moose Plains starting Wednesday night. โ›บ I’m hoping the traffic on the Northway won’t be too bad and I can be most of the way up there before it gets too dark. I’m going to camp closer to Cedar River Flow the first day then head west subsequently. The forth of July looks beautiful ๐ŸŽ‡ but not so much on Friday or Saturday but I don’t expect a wash out. โ˜” I think I’m going to bring the kayak but I’m not certain on that because the only place I’d use that is Helldiver Pond as I don’t want to spend my whole weekend driving from point a to point b. Plus when I’m at camp I’ll have to pull off the kayak so I solar power. ๐Ÿšค

Looking ahead, National Nude Day ๐Ÿ‘ฑ is in 2 weeks, Labor Day Weekend Begins ๐Ÿ‘จโ€๐Ÿญ is in 2 months, Sunset Before 7:30 PM ๐ŸŒ† is in 9 weeks, Autumn ๐Ÿ‚ is in 12 weeks and Average High is 60 ๐Ÿ‚ is in 15 weeks.

June 29, 2019 Night

Good evening! Partly clear and 72 degrees in Delmar, NY. There is a west-northwest breeze at 7 mph. ๐Ÿƒ. The dew point is 65 degrees. Kind of a hot day although it seems like the weather has moderated somewhat. The muggy weather ends tomorrow around noontime. ๐Ÿ˜“

Been a hot and fairly lazy day. Did some cleaning, ๐Ÿ›€ had a light breakfast and coffee โ˜•, watched some of the ag and off grid videos I downloaded, ๐Ÿ“น then spent quite a bit of time playing with the barometric pressure I got in the mail โœ‰ from Burma. Works great already been soldered on the board and it’s feeding information into the display including the current barometric pressure โ˜. Next step will be to add memory locations and compare to the trends so I can have messages warning about an approaching storm.

In the late afternoon I got a bunch of books ๐Ÿ“š out of the library to read through the holiday weekend. Then I came home, went to Henry Hudson Park on the river and spent some time reading. I though about fishing ๐ŸŽฃ but I decided against that. Bought groceries and had a late dinner of hot dogs. ๐Ÿฃ I also took a bunch of pictures of her my truck’s electrical set up that I shared on one of the Facebook groups I follow and will add them to the blog.

For a while I kind of wished I had headed out of town โ˜” but the forecast was so risky. I was thinking about Mine Kill Pool but I knew one clap of thunder โšก and that would be done. Plus I didn’t want to trapped in Schoharie County during severe weather and some of the storms around looked scary. Needless to say it was hot at home ๐Ÿก but no severe weather.

Tonight will be partly cloudy ๐ŸŒค, with a low of 64 degrees at 4am. Four degrees above normal. Maximum dew point of 65 at 10pm. West wind 5 to 7 mph. In 2018, we had mostly clear skies. It was somewhat humid. It got down to 64 degrees. The record low of 47 occurred back in 1938.

Tonight will have a Waning Crescent Moon ๐ŸŒ˜ with 3% illuminated. The moon will rise at 3:33 am. The New Moon is on Monday night with partly cloudy skies. The Buck Moon ๐ŸŒ is on Monday, July 15th. The sun will rise at 5:20 am with the first light at 4:46 am, which is 28 seconds later than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ„ Tonight will have 8 hours and 44 minutes of darkness, an increase of 34 seconds over last night.

Tomorrow will have showers and thunderstorms likely, mainly between 1pm and 3pm. Some of the storms could produce small hail and gusty winds. Partly sunny , with a high of 74 degrees at 12pm. Seven degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical day around June 2nd. Maximum dew point of 62 at 6am. Northwest wind 8 to 17 mph, with gusts as high as 29 mph. Chance of precipitation is 70%. New rainfall amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms. A year ago, we had mostly sunny skies. It was somewhat humid. The high last year was 94 degrees. The record high of 98 was set in 1964.

I got the puddy for repairing the table. ๐ŸŽจ I found some stuff that is rated for outdoor use and rain and I’m hopeful if I pack it in well under the top layer of the table it will stick. It was under $10 including the putty knife so it’s not a big investment. It either works or it doesn’t.

The plan for tomorrow is to puddy up the table in my bedroom ๐Ÿšง before I leave for the day and Sunday dinner at the parents house. This way I won’t have to smell the noxious chemicals and they’ll be able to dry up even if there is the threat of the rain โ˜”

Been doing a lot of reading the past two days. I finished reading ๐Ÿ“– Richard Hofstadter’s classic, The American Political Tradition from 1949, including the last chapter, “Franklin Roosevelt: The Patrician as Opportunist”. I had to read more so I got a different book out about FDR’s First 100 Days. Call FDR what you want – a pragmatist or an opportunist – but the truth is that he inspired a lot of people and reshaped the American government. Being up late yesterday with a book ๐Ÿ“™ is why I didn’t blog yesterday evening and in the morning I was hot and bothered.

I decided to leave from work on Wednesday and head up north to Moose Plains โ›บ right from work. Sun doesn’t set until late now so only the last part would involve driving after dark. Northway traffic will be bad but I’m not sure how bad as a lot of people leave early for the holiday weekend. I can drive safely. Maybe I will get to leave early too. I haven’t been up there since that warm late summer weekend in September 2017. Its a long trip up there and I kind of blame my broken shock absorber gasket or whatever you call it on those rough roads. ๐Ÿ˜ก But it’s a really nice big wilderness area and I like exploring. I can also plan hikes near camp so I’m not driving all day. The first night I’ll camp closer to the Cedar River Flow the head west to the plains for the following three nights. I guess I’ll bring my kayak as I might take it out on Helldiver Pond one evening and fish and toss back some of the tiny bulkheads that have become a nuisance in that lake. I’m not going to drive back over to Cedar River Flow as that’s too much of a time waste on those rough roads.

I thought about just going up to Piseco Powley Road if it’s going to be so hot ๐Ÿ”ฅ for time in the Potholers but decided I have the rest of the summer on hot weekends to get up there. Two years ago I was in the Potholers late September and it was in the mid 80s up there despite the leaves changing colors.

In four weeks on July 27 the sun will be setting at 8:20 pm,๐ŸŒ„ which is 16 minutes and 17 seconds earlier then tonight. In 2018 on that day, we had thunderstorm and temperatures between 86 and 68 degrees. Typically, you have temperatures between 82 and 62 degrees. The record high of 97 degrees was set back in 1955.

Looking ahead, Hottest Time of the Year ๐Ÿ˜… is in 2 weeks, Ugly Truck Day ๐Ÿšš is in 3 weeks, Average High Falls To 79 ๏ธDegrees โ›ฑ๏ธ๏ธ๏ธ is in 8 weeks and Average High 70 ๐ŸŽ‘ is in 12 weeks.

June 26, 2019 Night

Good evening! Clear, fairly muggy at least inside and 72 degrees in Delmar, NY. Calm wind. The dew point is 62 degrees.

I finally broke down and hooked up the fan this evening, it makes it much more pleasant in bed. That said the fan is noisy and a bit expensive to run at 60 watts an hour at high so I may turn it off later. ๐Ÿƒ

I reassembled the camp stove and I think it’s working fine but I need to experiment more with that one burner ๐Ÿณ. I think the problem was a loose connection and maybe crud in the burner, I cleaned and oiled well with WD 40 and carburetor cleaner. I lit it and it smoked and smelled from the cleaner so I’m going to let it evaporate more before I test it out more.

They had cheese on sale at Hannaford for a good price so I made Marconi and Cheese for dinner. ๐Ÿ›It was good but cooking it made it even hotter in my apartment. Working on the stove after dinner in the kitchen really got me sweating ๐Ÿ˜ฐ for sure. After that I went for my evening walk ๐Ÿšถ, sat out back for a while before retiring to bed.

Tonight will have a slight chance of showers and thunderstorms before 11pm. Some of the storms could produce small hail and gusty winds. Partly cloudy ๐ŸŒค, with a low of 63 degrees at 4am. Three degrees above normal. Maximum dew point of 62 at 10pm. Light southwest wind. Chance of precipitation is 20%. In 2018, we had partly cloudy skies in the evening, which became mostly clear by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 63 degrees. The record low of 45 occurred back in 1970.

Tonight will have a Waning Crescent Moon ๐ŸŒ˜ with 24% illuminated. The moon will rise at 2:01 am. The New Moon is on Monday night. The Buck Moon ๐ŸŒ is on Monday, July 15th. The sun will rise at 5:19 am with the first light at 4:44 am, which is 23 seconds later than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ„ Tonight will have 8 hours and 42 minutes of darkness, an increase of 23 seconds over last night.

Tomorrow will be sunny ๐ŸŒž, with a high of 86 degrees at 3pm. Five degrees above normal. Maximum dew point of 64 at 9am. Another hot summer day but less humid by afternoon. Light west wind becoming northwest 5 to 9 mph in the morning. A year ago, we had partly cloudy skies in the morning, remaining cloudy in the afternoon. The high last year was 73 degrees. The record high of 97 was set in 1941.

Not a particularly nice weekend on tap. ๐Ÿ˜ž Saturday, a chance of showers and thunderstorms. Partly sunny, with a high near 83. Chance of precipitation is 40%. New rainfall amounts of less than a tenth of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms. Maximum dew point of 68 at 1pm. Sunday, scattered showers and thunderstorms. Partly sunny, with a high near 77. Chance of precipitation is 40%. Maximum dew point of 63 at 6am. Typical average high for the weekend is 81 degrees.

I could change my mind on Saturday morning if it’s really nice but I’m planning on staying in town this weekend, โ›บ but next Wednesday after work I’m leaving for a long Independence Day weekend probably at Moose River Plains. I do want to try to patch up the table with all purpose bondo and maybe test the camp stove out and do some further cleaning and decreasing of the camp stove.

In four weeks on July 24 the sun will be setting at 8:23 pm,๐ŸŒ„ which is 13 minutes and 24 seconds earlier then tonight. In 2018 on that day, we had hot, humid, mostly sunny and temperatures between 89 and 75 degrees. Typically, you have temperatures between 83 and 62 degrees. The record high of 96 degrees was set back in 1941.

I don’t have a television ๐Ÿ“บ so no I’m not watching the Democratic Presidential debate. It’s good to discuss the issues and I’m sure I’ll hear about it in the morning on the news – in a nutshell. Still a long ways until the presidential primary in New York and I don’t expect to get involved except for voting. โ˜‘ Certainly not making the trip to New Hampshire to volunteer for any candidates. I’ll probably vote Democratic in 2020 for the White House but I’ll have to see who the nomanee ultimately is and how Trump is doing at his job at that point. Despite all the complaining and obnoxious tweets between the strong economy, affordable gasoline, available 22 ammunition, and just generally good times it’s hard to object to the status quo. Maybe we are ignoring future threats like the deficit and climate change but I doubt the democrats will have much action on that either. ๐ŸŒŽ

Looking ahead, Altamont Fair Opens ๐ŸŽก is in 7 weeks, State Fair Opens ๐ŸŽก is in 8 weeks, September 11th ๐Ÿ‡ธ is in 11 weeks, More Night then Day ๐ŸŒŒ is in 13 weeks and Inauguration Day 2021 ๐Ÿ‘ด๐Ÿป is in 82 weeks.

Paddling Across Grout Pond

June 25, 2019 10 PM Update

Good evening! Mostly clear and 73 degrees in Delmar, NY. There is a west-northwest breeze at 5 mph. ๐Ÿƒ. The dew point is 64 degrees. Definitely a sticky night especially up in my bedroom. I could turn on the fan but I kind of like the heat and figure I’ll sleep soundly a bit warm plus I don’t like how the fan consumes some 60 watts an hour on high. ๐Ÿ’ฎ

I voted and went over to John Wolcott’s house this afternoon for a while to dig through his history files. ๐Ÿ“‚ Some real gems I found in his collection that I posted on my personal Facebook. ๐Ÿ’Ž As far as the election goes, I honestly didn’t know much about candidates I was voting for so as I noted earlier I just choose the candidates I knew the least about. Judge primaries and even the comptroller primary are kind of silly – I don’t get involved in politics much anymore and I’m not planning on living in New York forever so what does it matter to me? Still I think voting is important. โ˜‘

Tonight will be mostly clear ๐ŸŒƒ, with a low of 61 degrees at 4am. Two degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical night around July 3rd. Maximum dew point of 64 at 9pm. West wind 3 to 5 mph. In 2018, we had mostly clear skies in the evening, which became partly cloudy by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 48 degrees. The record low of 39 occurred back in 1979.

Tonight will have a Waning Crescent Moon ๐ŸŒ˜ with 33% illuminated. The moon will rise at 1:36 am. The New Moon is on Monday night with scattered t-storms then partly cloudy skies. The Buck Moon ๐ŸŒ is on Monday, July 15th. The sun will rise at 5:19 am with the first light at 4:44 am, which is 21 seconds later than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ„ Tonight will have 8 hours and 42 minutes of darkness, an increase of 19 seconds over last night.

Tomorrow will be sunny ๐ŸŒž, with a high of 86 degrees at 3pm. Five degrees above normal. Maximum dew point of 64 at 9am. Light and variable wind becoming southwest 5 to 7 mph in the afternoon. A year ago, we had mostly sunny skies. The high last year was 80 degrees. The record high of 99 was set in 1952. Going to be a hot summer day.

Tomorrow assuming that I get an early enough start โฐ I’m going to get my hair cut ๐Ÿ’ˆ and drop off my blazers and overcoats for dry cleaning so they are ready to go for next year. I’m hoping I won’t have to wear them until then but who knows. I sometimes get invited events.

Still have to watch for showers and thunderstorm this weekend. โšก Saturday, a chance of showers, with thunderstorms also possible after 8am. Partly sunny, with a high near 83. Chance of precipitation is 50%. Maximum dew point of 67 at 12pm. Sunday, a chance of showers, with thunderstorms also possible after 2pm. Partly sunny, with a high near 78. Chance of precipitation is 50%. Maximum dew point of 63 at 6am. Typical average high for the weekend is 81 degrees. I’m leaning against going to Schoharie this weekend but I could change my mind. I could also tent or hammock camp โ›บ locally for a night.

I decided to reassemble my camp stove later this week ๐Ÿณ after a good cleaning. I looked at ordering a replacement burner but the only place I could find parts was direct from Camp Chef and they wanted $20 for the part plus $9 shipping plus tax. I’m hoping a good cleaning will work. The burner part that is rusted shouldn’t be leaking gas below ๐Ÿ”ฅ I think it just needs a good cleaning. I could try fire place cement on it too. Or just order the part. Annoying how after only three years of use it’s acting up. I want to see if I can get some degreaser for the case. As far as the melted section of the table I think I’m going to patch with all purpose bondo and see how it goes. Might also melt or expoxy some plastic from a milk bottle over it to seal things. Doesn’t have to be perfect. ๐Ÿ‘Œ I can always use a table cloth or my better table at events when I have other people along.

In four weeks on July 23 the sun will be setting at 8:24 pm,๐ŸŒ„ which is 12 minutes and 27 seconds earlier then tonight. In 2018 on that day, we had rain and temperatures between 85 and 73 degrees. Typically, you have temperatures between 83 and 62 degrees. The record high of 96 degrees was set back in 1955.

Looking ahead, Last Sunset After 8:30 PM ๐ŸŒ† is in 3 weeks, Constitution Day ๐Ÿ“œ is in 12 weeks, More Night then Day ๐ŸŒŒ is in 3 months, October ๐Ÿ›ฅ is in 14 weeks and Election Day 2020 ๐Ÿ—ณ๏ธ is in 71 weeks.

June 24, 2019 Night

Good evening! Partly cloudy and 72 degrees in Delmar. โ›… Calm wind. The dew point is 59 degrees. Certainly feels warmer than that in my bedroom that lacks air conditioning. The skies will clear tomorrow around 5 pm.

It was warm in my bedroom and I was tired so I took a nap when I got home. I disassembled the camp stove trying to find the propane leak on the burner. ๐Ÿ”ฅ Not a where the leak is but I may end up replacing the burner as I noticed the pan around the one burner is rusted out and maybe negative pressure is sucking propane into the bottom of the stove stove. I don’t think it’s just a loose connection. I’ll price out a burner on Ebay and Amazon tomorrow. Still debating on how to fix the table, I like the melted plastic option – recycling old milk bottles but I’m not sure if I can heat the plastic without accidentally burning it. I also don’t want to wreck a pan melting the plastic in it and then not be able to scrape it out. Bondo is another option, although I heard you need a speciality plastic filler and thick Bondo often cracks. Melted plastic is more durable and it reuses trash that I’ve already paid for. A fiber glass and epoxy patch is another option.

Tonight will have a chance of showers, mainly after 5am. Mostly cloudy ๐ŸŒง, with a low of 67 degrees at 3am. Eight degrees above normal. Maximum dew point of 62 at 6am. Southeast wind 3 to 5 mph. Chance of precipitation is 30%. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch possible. In 2018, we had light rain in the evening, which became mostly clear by the early hours of the morning. It was somewhat humid. It got down to 55 degrees. The record low of 45 occurred back in 1982.

Tonight will have be the Last Quarter Moon ๐ŸŒ— . The moon will rise at 1:11 am. The Buck Moon ๐ŸŒ is in 3 weeks. The sun will rise at 5:18 am with the first light at 4:43 am, which is 19 seconds later than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ„ Tonight will have 8 hours and 41 minutes of darkness, an increase of 15 seconds over last night.

Tomorrow will have showers and thunderstorms before 10am, then showers likely and possibly a thunderstorm between 10am and 1pm, then a chance of showers and thunderstorms after 1pm. ๐ŸŒฆ High of 79 degrees at 4pm. One degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical day around June 21st. Maximum dew point of 67 at 4pm. ๐Ÿ–๏ธ Muggy! Southeast wind around 8 mph becoming southwest in the afternoon. Chance of precipitation is 80%. New rainfall amounts between a quarter and half of an inch possible. A year ago, we had mostly sunny skies in the morning, which became mostly sunny by afternoon. It was humid. The high last year was 78 degrees. The record high of 95 was set in 1898.

Tomorrow I’ll head over to John Wolcott house after work ๐Ÿ“– and continue with his history project. I also have will stop at the library and vote. โŽ Wednesday I’ll get my hair cut โœ‚ and drop off the dry cleaning before work. That’s also when I’ll go shopping after work for the basics. After work Thursday is the Pine Bush Hike I’m leading.

The weekend looks hot and sunny but possibly stormy on Saturday afternoon. โšก Saturday, a chance of showers and thunderstorms. Partly sunny, with a high near 82. Chance of precipitation is 40%. Maximum dew point of 66 at 12pm. Sunday, scattered showers and thunderstorms. Partly sunny, with a high near 77. Chance of precipitation is 40%. Maximum dew point of 61 at 6am. Typical average high for the weekend is 81 degrees.

I could see going out to Schoharie County โ›บ this weekend or maybe not. It’s something that I can decide early Saturday. I’m not ready for a big trip to the Adirondacks this weekend though again so soon especially with Independence Day Weekend a week from Thursday. I have both that Thursday and Friday off for a long weekend which is nice. ๐ŸŽ‡ I do want to have the camp stove reassembled by then and maybe the table patched, although I could do the later when I’m up at camp.

In four weeks on July 22 the sun will be setting at 8:25 pm,๐ŸŒ„ which is 11 minutes and 28 seconds earlier then tonight. In 2018 on that day, we had rain and temperatures between 87 and 64 degrees. Looking ahead, July ๐ŸŠ๐Ÿฟ is in 1 week, Cow Appreciation Day ๐Ÿ‚ is in 3 weeks, Last Sunset After 8 PM ๐ŸŒ† is in 7 weeks, Average High Falls To 79 ๏ธDegrees โ›ฑ๏ธ๏ธ๏ธ is in 2 months, Labor Day ๐Ÿ‘จโ€๐Ÿญ is in 10 weeks and Columbus Day ๐Ÿ›ฅ๏ธ is in 15 weeks.

Saturday night

June 22, 2019 Night

Good evening! Partly clear and 56 degrees at Perkins Clearing Easement in the Adirondacks. ๐ŸŒƒ Stars are nice but there is still a fair amount of clouds around and despite the open skies a lot of light pollution from Speculator and Lake Pleasant which are only three or four miles away. There is a northwest breeze at 8 mph. ๐Ÿƒ. The dew point is 47 degrees. It actually is pretty cool when the breeze picks up. I have my hoodies and vest on, I might sit by the fire later again as it’s cool on the hammock but the stars โœจ are pretty above although how I have the laser light aimed it’s getting in my eyes from time to time and that’s annoying.

Tonight will have patchy fog after 3am. Otherwise, mostly clear ๐ŸŒƒ, with a low of 47 degrees at 5am. 12 degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical night around May 17th. Northwest wind around 8 mph. In 2018, we had mostly clear skies in the evening, which became light rain by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 57 degrees. The record low of 44 occurred back in 1940.

Today was a fairly lazy day, spending several hours in the hammock after sleeping in this morning. ๐Ÿ˜ด I still can’t believe how much my lip swelled from the horse fly bite. ๐Ÿ’‹In an hour or so it was back to normal. Lots of horse flies and mosquitoes especially yesterday and a few black flies left. ๐Ÿœ Not a good time of the year if you’re sensetive to bug bites. Did a bunch of reading ๐Ÿ“– and hiked two miles each way on Jessup River Road to the river of the same day and fished. With the solar and two accessory batteries I prefer to avoid driving as much as possible while at camp both to save fuel and because then I don’t have to worry if I want to have a few drinks. ๐Ÿป

Tonight will have a Waning Gibbous Moon ๐ŸŒ– with 62% illuminated with the moon rising at 12:20 am. I’ll probably be asleep by then. The moon will set up a tomorrow at 11:10 am. The Last Quarter Moon is on Monday night with a chance of t-storms then chance of showers. The Buck Moon ๐ŸŒ is on Monday, July 15th. Buck yeah. The sun will rise at 5:16 am with the first light at 4:41 am, which is 16 seconds later than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ„ Tonight will have 8 hours and 34 minutes of darkness, an increase of 8 seconds over last night.

Tomorrow will be sunny ๐ŸŒž, with a high of 75 degrees at 3pm. Five degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical day around June 6th. Maximum dew point of 49 at 7am. Northwest wind 8 to 11 mph. A year ago, we had cloudy skies in the morning with a few breaks of sun the afternoon. The high last year was 69 degrees. The record high of 96 was set in 1888.

I’m going to paddle the Sacandaga River tomorrow from Speculator down to the rapids past the Kujamunk. ๐Ÿšค That’s a nice paddle and do some fishing ๐ŸŽฃ and maybe swim ๐ŸŠ if it’s not too cold. I’m hoping the water won’t be too choppy with the wind, I’ll probably stay out of Lake Pleasant with the kayak. Then back to Albany to unpack and work on Monday although at least I won’t have to dress up and can take the express bus to work. ๐Ÿš

In four weeks on July 20 the sun will be setting at 8:32 pm,๐ŸŒ„ which is 10 minutes and 2 seconds earlier then tonight. That will be the first or second day of summer vacation most likely. In 2018 on that day, we had hot weather, sunny, patches of fog and temperatures between 88 and 57 degrees. Typically, you have temperatures between 83 and 62 degrees. The record high of 97 degrees was set back in 1991.

This past week the solar panel on my truck generated 500 watt hours of power or a half kilowatt hour. ๐Ÿ”‹About 7 cents worth of electricity at home hooked to the grid. It would have generated more but the alternator topped off the batteries when driving and when there is no load on the system, the solar controller discards the excess power. ๐Ÿ”Œ I probably could leave the accessory batteries disconnected from the alternator – maybe I’ll do that on the way home although with the kayak on the roof of the truck and the CB radio and phone pulling 15 watts off the battery that isn’t ideal.

Looking ahead, Hottest Time of the Year ๐Ÿ˜… is in 3 weeks, Ugly Truck Day ๐Ÿšš is in 4 weeks, Average High Falls To 79 ๏ธDegrees โ›ฑ๏ธ๏ธ๏ธ is in 9 weeks, Average High 70 ๐ŸŽ‘ is in 13 weeks and Autumn ๐Ÿ‚ is in 3 months.

 East Canada Creek

June 21, 2019 Night

Good evening! Happy First Night of Summer from the wilderness with a billion stars โœจ above. Partly clear and 56 degrees at the Perkins Clearing. There is a west-northwest breeze at 7 mph. ๐Ÿƒ. The dew point is 48 degrees. Even after building a rip roaring fire ๐Ÿ”ฅ, putting on my blaze orange hoodie and jeans it’s still pretty cool this evening.

It’s been a rough week at work but at least I had today after 7:30 AM off from work so I could take a nap at home then pack my stuff and head up to the Adirondacks. โ›บ I ended up deciding based on the forecast to visit the Speculator area and get my favorite campsite with brilliant views of the night sky, โœจ especially with the modest temperatures, low humidity and clear skies expected over the weekend. Actually most of the work week looks good and I’ll be returning most days to the nine to five schedule rather than nine am to seven am schedule I worked yesterday. I got up here safely but my sleep rhythms are still screwed up, it’s almost midnight but I’m quite awake and lots of sun will be streaming into my truck at four am tomorrow. ๐ŸŒ„ That said it’s nice to be back in the wilderness, it’s been a month now. June just has proven to be a very busy month for me plus I ended up making some big upgrades to my camp electric setup – which seems to work perfectly.

Tonight will be partly cloudy ๐ŸŒค, with a low of 50 degrees at 4am. Nine degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical night around May 26th. Northwest wind 7 to 9 mph. In 2018, we had mostly clear skies in the evening, which became cloudy by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 50 degrees. The record low of 37 occurred back in 1940. Should be great weather for sleeping.

The sun will rise at 5:16 am with the first light at 4:40 am, which is 13 seconds later than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ„ Tonight will have 8 hours and 34 minutes of darkness, an increase of 3 seconds over last night.

I was thinking about hiking down to the Miami River and doing some fishing ๐ŸŽฃ but looking at the map it’s a bit more of a walk than expected at two miles. I could drive. Or maybe I could hike Pillsbury Mountain – been eight years since I climbed that or better yet do something new and hike back to Pillsbury Lake in the West Canada Lake Wilderness. ๐Ÿšถ It’s good to explore new places, especially if I want this to be a summer to remember.

Looking ahead to Sunday, sunny, with a high near 75. Northwest wind 6 to 11 mph. Maximum dew point of 52 at 8pm. Typical average high for the weekend is 80 degrees. Planning to do some kayaking and fishing on Sunday down in Speculator.

In 2018 on that day, we had sunny, patches of fog and temperatures between 83 and 55 degrees. Typically, you have temperatures between 83 and 62 degrees. The record high of 97 degrees was set back in 1904.
