Voorheesville – Year of Building Construction

It's interesting to see the various waves of building construction in village from county tax maps -- 1880s and 1890s railroad construction along Voorheesville Avenue near the train station, then a big development in the late 1960s and early 1970s, another development in the late 1970s, and then Edinburgh Court and Country Club development of the late 2010s,

Finding time to blog

People ask how I find the time to work on my blog. But to be honest, not owning a television frees up a lot of time, as does riding public transportation to work and around town.

Writing on my phone is particularly nice, because it has fewer distractions than my laptop and it’s small enough that it can just sit on my hand while laying in bed with the lights dimmed to a relaxing red color.

Lately I’ve increased my commitment to writing, as I think it’s a good way to expand my thoughts and share them with the world. And laying back on my bed while typing out my ideas gives me ample time to just do that.

Trees on a Spooky Halloween Day

No I don’t really hate New York

The other day I was riding in a car, starting to complain about how hard it is to live in New York – the cold winters, the high cost of living, the high rents, taxes, a snobby political culture and numerous other things that plague our state.

But then I quickly followed it up with the fact that I may complain about it a lot I really love the life. I like my job and seeing my ideas and work go on to being implemented, plans come together. I have a beautiful office with a great view of the mountains. I like the money I make and my ability to invest in an effort to live a better life tomorrow. I love having public transportation that I can take to work and so many places in the wilderness where I can camp, hike, fish and hunt. And despite the corrosion to my truck, I kind of like the pretty snow on the landscape even if slip walking on the ice.

Maybe my future is not on New York State but that alone is kind of liberating, as it means I don’t really have a stake in the fight for the future. My concern is with earning and investing money, saving for a better tomorrow, not worrying about what’s happening today in New York.
