August 13, 2017 Night

Good evening! Clear and 64 degrees in Dormansville. There is a west-northwest breeze at 9 mph. The dew point is 54 degrees. Sometimes a warm breeze, sometimes a cold one. It varies a lot. A pretty nice summer evening, although I admit it felt like the weekend went by too quickly, but I got a lot done around the apartment, I returned the kayak paddle, made numerous fixes to the blog, and was able upload a good cache of new and replacement maps, so I’ll have plenty to feature.

Tonight will be mostly clear, with a low of 56 degrees at 5am. Three degrees below normal. Maximum dew point of 56 at 10pm. Northwest wind 5 to 10 mph. In 2016, we had mostly cloudy skies. It was very sticky. It got down to 72 degrees. Much cooler and refreshing tonight. Don’t get summer evenings much nicer then tonight.  Going to look for shooting stars in a bit then retire for the night. The record low of 44 occurred back in 1941.

Tonight will have a Waning Gibbous Moon with 48% illuminated, rising at 12:01 am. The moon will set tomorrow at 2:22 pm. The Last Quarter Moon will be tomorrow with partly cloudy skies. The Harvest Moon is on Tuesday, September 5th. The sun will rise at 6:01 am with the first light at 5:31 am, which is one minute and 4 seconds later than yesterday. Tonight will have 10 hours and 3 minutes of darkness, an increase of 2 minutes and 30 seconds over last night. The nights are getting longer, as have been shown by the many graphs I’ve been publishing lately. If you see the graphs on Facebook or Twitter, I encourage you to check the interactive versions on the blog.

Tomorrow will be mostly sunny, with a high of 80 degrees at 3pm. Two degrees below normal. Maximum dew point of 57 at 10am. Light and variable wind. A year ago, we had mostly cloudy skies with some clearing in the afternoon. It was very sticky. The high last year was 90 degrees. I remember working late that night, and getting out to wait for the bus, and was dripping with sweat, feeling like I had just stepped out into a steam bath. The record high of 97 was set in 1988.

The long range is not perfect, but not terrible for a summer weekend. Next Saturday, a chance of showers and thunderstorms. Partly sunny, with a high near 74. Chance of precipitation is 40%. Maximum dew point of 63 at 1pm. Next Sunday, a chance of showers. Partly sunny, with a high near 73. Chance of precipitation is 30%. Maximum dew point of 62 at 5pm. Typical average high for the weekend is 80 degrees.

I have a week from Monday off and I am thinking of taking the following Tuesday and Wednesday off so I can do a re-do of summer vacation, and head out to the Finger Lakes. i have to see if I can get those days off, but it would be fun to be farther west and south, where the view of the eclipse would be better. Plus I could use some more time out in sun. i will look at the forecast tomorrow before making up my mind though.

In four weeks on September 10 the sun will be setting at 7:13 pm, which is 45 minutes and 53 seconds earlier then tonight. How fast time goes. It will be autumn and peak color in Moose River, before you know it. In 2016 on that day, we had rain, mist, partly cloudy skies and temperatures between 87 and 67 degrees. Typically, you have temperatures between 75 and 54 degrees. The record high of 96 degrees was set back in 1931.

Looking ahead, 7 PM Sunset is in 5 weeks, Average High is 60 is in 9 weeks, Daylight Savings Time Ends is in 12 weeks, Cold Moon is in 16 weeks and New Years Eve is in 20 weeks. This time, the upcoming holidays are so depressing.

The Hollies – He Ain’t Heavy, He’s My Brother

After this long, and crazy weekend with many angry voices prevailing, I thought this Civil Rights anthem was a good one to end the weekend...

"The road is long / With many a winding turn / That leads us to who knows where / Who knows where / But I'm strong / Strong enough to carry him / He ain't heavy, he's my brother"

August 8, 2017 10 PM Update

Good evening! Mostly clear and 65 degrees in Delmar. Calm wind. The dew point is 54 degrees. A nice evening.

I went this evening to the Albany County Young Democrats Installation Ceremony. It was a nice little reception. I might do a few more ACYD events this year, I’ve been involved with the Young Democrats on and off for many years now. I’m often busy with work and I don’t like driving in the city, so I’ve missed many events over the years. It’s tough to be involved especially when you work late and have to travel for work a fair amount.

I probably should have gone for an evening walk but I was lazy. I’ve been walking down to the express bus both in morning and evening so I have excuses.

Tonight will have patchy fog after 3am. Otherwise, mostly clear, with a low of 54 degrees at 5am. Seven degrees below normal. Maximum dew point of 54 at 10pm. Calm wind. In 2016, we had clear skies. It got down to 57 degrees. The record low of 46 occurred back in 1989.

Tonight will have a Waning Gibbous Moon. The Last Quarter Moon is on Monday night with partly cloudy then patchy fog skies. The Harvest Moon is in 4 weeks. The sun will rise at 5:55 am with the first light at 5:24 am, which is one minute and 4 seconds later than yesterday. Tonight will have 9 hours and 50 minutes of darkness, an increase of 2 minutes and 25 seconds over last night.

Tomorrow will have patchy fog before 8am. Otherwise, sunny, with a high of 83 degrees at 3pm. One degree above normal. Maximum dew point of 59 at 6pm. Calm wind becoming west 5 to 7 mph in the morning. A year ago, we had mostly sunny skies. The high last year was 86 degrees. The record high of 96 was set in 2001.

Not a particularly nice weekend on tap. Saturday, a chance of showers. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 78. Chance of precipitation is 50%. Maximum dew point of 67 at 7pm. Sunday, a chance of showers. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 80. Chance of precipitation is 40%. Maximum dew point of 66 at 11am. Typical average high for the weekend is 81 degrees. I think I will be staying in town this weekend.

The stuff with North Korea and President Trump is just nuts. It just seems like its going to end badly for both countries. I wish we had a mature adult for president.

In four weeks on September 5 the sun will be setting at 7:21 pm, which is 44 minutes and 19 seconds earlier then tonight. In 2016 on that day, we had heavy fog, fog, shallow fog, patches of fog, mist, partly cloudy skies and temperatures between 85 and 55 degrees. Typically, you have temperatures between 76 and 56 degrees. The record high of 91 degrees was set back in 1973.

Looking ahead, Altamont Fair Opens is Next Tuesday, Friday the 13th (October) is in 8 weeks, Election Day 2017 is in 13 weeks, Average High is 40 is in 14 weeks, Election Day 2018 is in 65 weeks and Election Day 2020 is in 169 weeks.
