Color Blind Highway Superintendent

Did you know there is a way to tell if a town’s highway superintendent suffers from red-green color blindness?

Look to see if there are a lot of blue-on-white signs in a town. Color blind individuals strongly prefer those colors over green-on-white signs.

I bet you didn't know a 8-lanes of Interstate 84 in Hartford, CT cross a bridge completed in 1908, oldest interstate highway bridge in America. It's not a short bridge either -- it spans 1,192 feet. They did add two more lanes in 1964, and part of the bridge is concrete, but most of it is cut stone.

Damn Traffic Lights

I drove up to the Voorheesville Traffic light this evening, waited for three minutes — there was over a 1/4 mile traffic backed up behind me — and the light never turned green. I tried rolling forward, but still couldn’t trip the damn induction loop.

Ultimately, ended up running the red — the light turned as soon as the next car moved up the sensor.

This happens from time to time — but it’s been happening more frequently for me. I wonder if the DOT has turned down the sensitivity on the induction loops. It’s not like I replaced my truck with a completely plastic vehicle.
