November 11, 2019 Night

Good evening! Cloudy and 33 degrees in Delmar, NY. ☁ There is a north breeze at 6 mph. 🍃. Temperatures will drop below freezing at tomorrow around 4 am. β˜ƒοΈ

I am feeling a lot better now. πŸ™‚ I went for an evening walk 🚶 around the high school 🚸 and also rode the excerise bike 🚲 for probably two hours today. Knees are a bit sore, probably those hours on the bike 💪. I have a ton of energy ⚑ now that my cold is relenting – as often happens after being sick. You feel so weak until you ain’t. Still think there is a good chance I have Lyme – going to get tested if the headaches and soreness continue after the cough is gone. But at least the energy is back. Going to need it with the bitter cold ❄ coming tomorrow. Heat is on and it’s comfortable.

I had a good dinner of fish 🐠 and mixed vegetables with frozen onions added for flavor. It was a basic and good dinner, a change from the usual pasta in the winter. I had frozen raspberries for dessert and a glass of apple juice 🍏. I get apple juice is high on sugar but I don’t ever have candy 🍬 or alcohol 🍻 at home and the sugar boost makes me sleepy before bed 😴. Only camping. I rode the exercise bike more after dinner watching the latest update from Red Poppy Ranch 🌸 on his YouTube channel. I stopped early as my neighbor was home and I didn’t want to disturb him with the rumble of my bike which is pretty loud 🔊. That said with the Bluetooth headphones he never hears my music, video or radio 📻. I try to cuss and drop shit less when he’s home. 💩

Tonight will have a chance of rain before 3am, then rain and sleet between 3am and 5am, then rain and sleet, possibly mixed with freezing rain after 5am. 😮🌀❄ Low of 30 degrees at 6am. Three degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical night around November 21st. North wind around 6 mph becoming west after midnight. Chance of precipitation is 80%. Little or no ice accumulation expected. Total nighttime sleet accumulation of less than a half inch possible. In 2018, we had partly cloudy skies in the evening, which became mostly clear by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 29 degrees. The record low of 15 occurred back in 1976.

Tonight is the Beaver Moon but with the impending storm you won’t see much.🌝🚫 The moon is under the clouds, the beavers are hiding in the safety of their lodges. The sun will rise at 6:41 am with the first light at 6:11 am, which is one minute and 16 seconds later than yesterday. 🌄 Tonight will have 14 hours and 5 minutes of darkness, an increase of 2 minutes and 18 seconds over last night.

Tomorrow will snow and sleet, becoming all snow after 7am, then gradually ending. β„β˜ High of 31 degrees at 8am. 18 degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical day in early January. Northwest wind 10 to 18 mph, with gusts as high as 36 mph. Chance of precipitation is 90%. New snow and sleet accumulation of less than one inch possible. It’s going to be a messy commute some places but not so bad in Albany. A year ago, we had partly cloudy skies in the morning with some clearing in the afternoon. The high last year was 47 degrees. The record high of 68 was set in 1909. 7.3 inches of snow fell back in 1968.❄

I’ll make it to work and it should be a fairly ordinary Tuesday. Probably take the local bus in if it’s really miserable come morning. 🚍 I’m hoping no headaches come the day time but I’ll make it through the day, I always do. 😧 After work, I’ll probably come home and continue to rest up but at least I think things are getting better health wise. I get paid tomorrow which is good 💸 as the big credit card 💳 bill is due Thursday.

Got replacement Bluetooth headphones. 🎧 Amazing how they’re under $8 at Walmart. The quality isn’t the same though, they don’t last as long and aren’t waterproof. But still six months is better than what I’d get with the wired ones. I saved the Bluetooth unit and battery in the old one, I could use it for a future 🔮 project.

Stocked up the pantry too, 🍇 I don’t plan to drive anywhere until next Sunday. $43 in groceries including foot powder and the headphones. Not too bad and I have more than 3/4 tank of gas left Solar should keep the truck ready to be started even if it cold out all week β˜€. I think eventually when I own my own place I’ll keep an old solar panel and charge controller on a rack and run wires with a quick connect to the battery 🔋 of my truck to keep the battery fully topped off when it is parked for long periods of time at my cabin.

I do miss camping β›Ί and traveling a lot this time of year. I do want to do at least one more camping trip this month and maybe an extended weekend winter trip come December or January depending on how much snow and road conditions. My often cold apartment in the cold gray weather gets me watching the YouTube video I’ve downloaded and thinking a lot more about my future 🔮 and my plans. I could turn the heat up or rent a nicer place but it’s good to dream and have a plan for a better tomorrow.

In four weeks on December 9 the sun will be setting at 4:21 pm,🌄 which is 15 minutes and 10 seconds earlier then tonight. In 2018 on that day, we had snow and temperatures between 33 and 27 degrees. Typically, you have temperatures between 38 and 24 degrees. The record high of 62 degrees was set back in 1966.

Looking ahead, Cyber Monday 🛍️ is in 3 weeks, First Sunday of Advent ✝️ is in 3 weeks, Earliest Sunset of the Year βŒ›οΈ is in 4 weeks and Festivus 🍖 is in 6 weeks.

Phil Ochs – The Men Behind the Guns

Let's drink a toast to the admiral
And here's to the captain bold
And glory more for the commodore
When the deeds of might are told
They stand to the deck through the battle's wreck
When the great shells roar and pound
And never they fear when the foe is near
To lay their orders down

The 2019 elections are in the books, and now the country can finally start paying attention to 2020. In many ways, Tuesday’s elections were a dress rehearsal for those a year from now: The parties’ performance relative to partisanship can tell us which way the political winds might be blowing, and obvious trends from 2019 — like the widening urban-rural divide — provide clues as to where the battles of 2020 will be fought.

Sunrise at the Campsite

For two nights I camped at the same location in Allegany National Forest. There where plenty of other sites, but I particularly like this one, because it was on top of a ridge, with early sunrise and later sunset, and did not have grasses around that could catch fire.
