August 13, 2018 Night

Good evening! The rain stopped, it’s now cloudy and 70 degrees in Delmar. ☁ There is a east-northeast breeze at 5 mph. 🍃. The dew point is 69 degrees.

I got out of the work at five, 🕔 and despite the rain the bus made pretty good progress home. 🚌 I caught the bus at the portico of the Capitol to avoid the rain as i left my rain coat home. Made Macaroni and Cheese that I had originally bought for vacation with extra cheese,🍛 mushrooms and salsa. Walked down to the library 📚 this time with an umbrella and did some work emails and uploaded some new content to the blog. Back to bed now, lights are dimming do I’m off to bed shortly.

Tonight will have showers and possibly a thunderstorm. Low of 69 degrees at 12am. 💦Eight degrees above normal. Maximum dew point of 69 at 10pm. 🏖️ Northeast wind 3 to 5 mph. Chance of precipitation is 80%. New rainfall amounts between a quarter and half of an inch possible. In 2017, we had mostly cloudy skies. It got down to 57 degrees. The record low of 44 occurred back in 1941.

Tonight will have a Waxing Crescent Moon 🌒 with 11% illuminated. The moon will rise at 9:43 am. The First Quarter Moon is on Friday night with a chance of t-storms then partly cloudy skies. The Strugeon Moon 🌝 is on Saturday, August 25th. The sun will rise at 6:00 am with the first light at 5:30 am, which is one minute and 4 seconds later than yesterday. 🌄 Tonight will have 10 hours and 2 minutes of darkness, an increase of 2 minutes and 30 seconds over last night.

Tomorrow will have a chance of showers and thunderstorms, then showers likely and possibly a thunderstorm after 1pm. Some of the storms could produce heavy rain. Mostly cloudy β˜” , with a high of 81 degrees at 3pm. Typical for Tomorrow. Maximum dew point of 70 at 11am. Light and variable wind becoming south around 6 mph in the morning. Chance of precipitation is 70%. New rainfall amounts between a quarter and half of an inch possible. A year ago, we had mostly cloudy skies. It was somewhat humid. The high last year was 79 degrees. The record high of 97 was set in 1988. I think we will have nicer weather for the second half of the week.

I really like the potential big investment in space that Trump’s Space Force could potentially bring. I get the controversy, but I think the knowledge gained by deploying our troops to outer space could make the world richer for generations to come. 🌝

Right now, it looks like a pretty pleasant weekend although Friday may be wet. Saturday, a chance of showers. Partly sunny, with a high near 82. 😎Chance of precipitation is 30%. Maximum dew point of 67 at 6am. Sunday, mostly sunny, with a high near 81. Maximum dew point of 63 at 11am. Typical average high for the weekend is 80 degrees. Summer is rapidly coming to a close.

Still thinking about heading out of town this weekend. Friday doesn’t look really good so I may instead just head out to Schoharie County to camp and use the pool one last time this summer. 🏊Then at least the final week of summer or Labor Day Weekend head up north. I’m still thinking about the Plains but I could change my mind depending on my work schedule and the weather.

I expect a busy work schedule this autumn but my November trip should be a lot of fun. β›Ί Plus more work means making more money which I can save and invest towards a better tomorrow with my future off grid cabin. I’m increasingly looking at just buying an existing hunting cabin and fixing it up with solar panels and maybe a shower but in a state with more freedom. But that’s a ways off, first to get through the craziness of the autumn season at work. 💼 At least with my job I get to travel and see new parts of the state.

In four weeks on September 10 the sun will be setting at 7:13 pm,🌄 which is 45 minutes and 59 seconds earlier then tonight. In 2017 on that day, we had partly cloudy skies and temperatures between 70 and 48 degrees. Typically, you have temperatures between 75 and 54 degrees. The record high of 96 degrees was set back in 1931.

Looking ahead, Labor Day 👨‍🏭 is in 3 weeks, State Primary Day 🗳️ is a month away, Consitution Day 📜 is in 5 weeks, October 🛥 is in 7 weeks, Columbus Day 🛥️ is in 8 weeks, Average High is 60 🍂 is in 2 months, Veterans Day Observed (Monday) 🇺🇸 is in 13 weeks, Average Night Below Freezing 🌌 is in 3 months, Cyber Monday 🛍️ is in 15 weeks and New Years Eve 🎆 is in 20 weeks.

Music

Since being a kid, I’ve listened to music from the 60s and 70s but also country music. 🎸But lately I’ve been listening to less and less modern country music, preferring to listen to the old stuff. 🎧

I’ve just become more and more disgusted with modernity and where our country is going to today.📻 Music from a half century ago is a safe choice because at this point its mostly referencing things far in the rear view mirror, from a simpler time. 🔊

Trump directed the Pentagon to create a Space Force. What would it look like?

I am a big fan of Trump's proposal to create a dedicated Space Force. I think our country under invests in research into space and remote sensing, and bringing together the best military minds in one room to better understand space and the earth below could pay dividends to the entire world. It might lead to remarkable improvements in renewable energy, a better understanding of the impacts of the climate crisis, better understanding of the problems facing earth far below. Sure there is NASA and the NWS both of those agencies are underfunded and only under military leadership do I believe the necessary funding be unlocked to really understand the critical problems facing our planet. Will it be wasteful? Yes. But sometimes waste is necessary to commit the resources necessary to solve our problems.

The Fact Is Nothing Is Going to Be Done About Climate Change Until It Kills Lots of White People – Slog – The Stranger

The Fact Is Nothing Is Going to Be Done About Climate Change Until It Kills Lots of White People – Slog – The Stranger

"Indeed, we can expect that, as climate change worsens, the government will spend more on white lives for no other purpose than to maintain the current economic order, which is largely structured to grow, endlessly, the profits of energy corporations. The market capitalization for just the gas and oil sector alone is over $1 trillion. They have the money. They have the data. They have huge political influence. And I'm going to say it like it is: In the light of this influence, Trump appears as no accident of history. It's not a miracle that the racist somehow seems to never sink no matter what he says or does. You can always walk on water if the future of climate change non-action is the recognition and defense of white American lives."
