February 23, 2021 8 AM Update

Good morning! Happy Tuesday. Final Tuesday of February 2021. No going back at this point. Only forward! Not sure why you would want to go back at this point. It’s not like 2020 was that great of a year, but I certainly had fun. Next Tuesday is Read Across America Day πŸ“š. Been doing a lot of reading lately. 35 degrees and mostly cloudy β›… on the morning walk 🚢🏻. Calm wind πŸƒ. You can see the sun β˜€ and hints of blue sky so it’s sunnier then yesterday but not great.

Today will be mostly cloudy β›… to fully overcast. Looking to get a few degrees warmer later, looking at around maybe 38 degrees later. Maybe a bit more breezy later with some rain or snow showers. 🌦 Not a super nice day but so be it. Last weekend was quite nice, a bit cooler and sunnier then expected. I am hoping for better weather tomorrow, but I think that is sliding downhill.

I didn’t really do a blog post on Monday, πŸ›Œ because I overslept, probably because I am enjoying having a new bottom sheet that is not ripped. That new sheet — an inexpensive Walmart special — fits my bed really well and almost color matches my other less warn out sheets, although it a slightly lighter brown. I washed all the sheets on Sunday, so I everything would be clean and in the case of bottom sheet, free of potentially irritating chemicals. I am thinking at some point I should go to the laundromat with my comforter, it’s probably been a decade since I last washed it.

It was a nice weekend, out skiing at Partridge Run. 🎿 Getting off the trail though, the snow was deep, and I had some issues working my way back up the ledge in the deep snow. I probably should have just taken off my skis and tromped through the snow. When I was on the trails though, it was pretty good, although some places the snow was a bit sticky from the warm sun. But it was nice to get out skiing for a couple of hours. 🍲 I had a nice Sunday dinner with the folks, you know except for those occasional old folks conversations that all old folks say. People grow wiser with experience, but they become more cranky too.

Monday was pretty quiet. 🀫 Lots of little things going on at work but one of my meetings was canceled so that kind of threw off the day. I did a little cleaning and reading and ended up watching Youtube videos into the evening. Feeling a little bit congested, 🐢 I think it’s that doggone dog my parents own. Some how that just really triggers my allergies. I skipped both my morning and evening walks.

Been doing a lot of learning about computer viruses. πŸ‘Ή You know after all these years I don’t know much about them and how they work, except that the media says they’re really scary. I don’t know, there kind of interesting and if you keep your software up to date and don’t run Winders, there isn’t much to worry about. I think ever since having to have that OS for the work VPN, I’ve been learning a lot more about it.

Solar noon 🌞 is at 12:10 pm with sun having an altitude of 37.7Β° from the due south horizon (-33.1Β° vs. 6/21). A six foot person will cast a 7.8 foot shadow today compared to 2.2 feet on the first day of summer. The golden hour πŸ… starts at 5:00 pm with the sun in the west-southwest (251Β°). πŸ“Έ The sunset is in the west-southwest (258Β°) with the sun dropping below the horizon at 5:38 pm after setting for 2 minutes and 58 seconds with dusk around 6:06 pm, which is one minute and 15 seconds later than yesterday. πŸŒ‡ At dusk you’ll see the Waxing Gibbous πŸŒ” Moon in the east (98Β°) at an altitude of 47Β° from the horizon, 242,637 miles away. πŸš€ The best time to look at the stars is after 6:39 pm. There will be a calm wind. Today will have 10 hours and 58 minutes of daytime, an increase of 2 minutes and 48 seconds over yesterday.

Except for my evening walk, 🚢 today will be a pretty much stay at home, work from home, and just do the same old thing I do every day. I am a bit bored with everything, but I’m hoping for nicer weather sooner then later. Of course, then the pandemic will be over then it will be back to working downtown. I guess, although I don’t know when I will get vaccinated. πŸ’‰ It seems like COVID-19 cases are falling but it seems like there is a long time period before it’s safe enough for people to return to work. And I don’t know if people actually want to go back to work downtown, as working from home is kind of nicer in good weather.

Tonight should be fairly easy on the heat ♨ Cloudy and around freezing or 32 degrees for a low. Might not even drop below freezing tonight, which is a big change, although spring is coming soon. Breezy, coming from the south around 10 mph. Tomorrow will be even warmer, with highs around 45 degrees. Planning to wash my truck tomorrow. Definitely going for my evening walk later. 🚢I am tired of all the cold. Probably though too cold to sit out back but I’m sure those days aren’t that far off.

🌹🌻🌼Only 25 days remain until the first day of calendar spring!🌹🌻🌼 March is just around the corner, as is warmer weather. If March is as warm as expected, then it shouldn’t be too bad way to kick off the month. No complaints there. I just really want to once again be able to sit back with my windows open. I really hate how stuffy my apartment is in the winter, and how trapped I feel being stuck inside all day.

Rain and snow for the weekend. 🌧 Come Saturday, a chance of snow before 11am, then a chance of rain and snow between 11am and 2pm, then rain likely after 2pm. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 43. On an off rain likely before 8pm Saturday with a low around 34. Sunday is looking better, partly sunny, with a high near 48.

I don’t think there is much hope for getting out of town this weekend, 🏠 but at least Sunday will be sunny, even if all the snow will be a big slop bucket at 48 degrees after all the rain the previous day. But I guess it’s good in the sense I’ll be saving on heating bills.

As previously noted, next Tuesday is Read Across America Day πŸ“š when the sun will be setting at 5:46 pm with dusk at 6:14 pm. On that day in 2020, we had partly cloudy, mild, snow showers and temperatures between 58 and 30 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 39 degrees. We hit a record high of 65 back in 1991.

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — If you wear glasses, you’re two to three times less likely to contract the coronavirus (COVID-19), one study suggests.

Researchers in India followed 304 people who wear glasses by way of a questionnaire, of which 58 wore glasses continuously during the day and during outdoor activities, according to the study published in medRxiv.
