These cows voluntarily come to the “feed rack” (a real term we use). A lot goes on while the cow’s are at the feed rack. The stanchion can be set to lock around the cow’s neck so that she cannot walk away, but most of the day the cows are free to come and go as they wish. The cows in this photo are locked in the stanchions, yet they are still completely comfortable. They are locked for about an hour every morning so that we can come through and clean the beds, sort the cattle that need to be moved to a different pen, and artificially inseminate the cattle that are in estrus. Yes, cows are artificially inseminated at the feed rack.

Gov. Andrew Cuomo on Thursday signed legislation that officially bans the use of dangerous, indestructible “forever chemicals” from pizza boxes and other food containers.
The new law bans the use of per- and polyfluoroalkyl chemicals (PFAS) in food packaging. Studies have linked PFAS chemicals to increased cancer risk, kidney disease and weakened immune systems, among other negative health impacts.
That's a good thing as not only do these chemicals potentially leach into the food, the leach out of landfills or even more directly into the environment as litter, when tossed in compost or manure piles, or burned in a fire pit or burn barrel.
“I’m quite hopeful that with the new administration coming in, there will be change of sentiment and hopefully a change of direction,” Ben van Beurden said in the Web Summit conference. Without increased cooperation “I don’t think we are going to succeed in the energy transition.”
While it’s too early to say what exactly President-elect Joe Biden’s energy policies will be, his vow to rejoin the climate deal “is a pretty good start,” Van Beurden said. Some of Biden’s ideas are “not bad,” but it will be important to see how the practicalities of these policies play out.
