Moss Island in May?

This May I am thinking of doing a trip to Moss Island, most likely camping at Piseco-Powley Road then driving down on a Saturday to the Island. While all of Piseco-Powley Road wouldn’t be open in the spring, once the snow is gone, one can still drive as far north as the Potholers and the Hamilton County line.Β  I think it would be fascinating to see all of the wildflowers on the island during the spring time, as the last two times I’ve been to Little Falls it’s either been late August or mid-September.

April 9, 2019 Morning

Good morning! Happy Tuesday. Gray, cloudy, somewhat damp with haze and 46 degrees in Delmar, NY. 🌁 Calm wind. Temperatures will drop below freezing at Thursday around 2 am. β˜ƒοΈ

Still feel moderately sick today but well enough to go to work. 😯Not so sore or a headache today just a bit congested. I actually caught the earlier bus 🚍 to work today because I was up and going early today. I am surprised — it’s the first time I’ve gotten the least bit sick all winter. But it looks like it was just a one afternoon and evening type thing. I think trying to wash my hands more, quitting drinking alcohol and unhealthy foods, eating more fruits and veggies has helped.πŸŒ½πŸ…πŸŽ

Today will have showers likely, mainly after 3pm. Mostly cloudy β˜”, with a high of 58 degrees at 2pm. Three degrees above normal, which is similiar to a typical day around April 14th. Light and variable wind becoming southwest 9 to 14 mph in the morning. Chance of precipitation is 70%. New precipitation amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch possible. A year ago, we had mostly sunny in the morning, which became partly cloudy by afternoon. The high last year was 44 degrees. The record high of 77 was set in 1991. 13.3 inches of snow fell back in 2000.❄

The sun will set at 7:30 pm with dusk around 7:59 pm, which is one minute and 9 seconds later than yesterday. πŸŒ‡ At sunset, look for rain showers 🌧 and temperatures around 50 degrees. There will be a west-northwest breeze at 10 mph. I think it was a good decision to close the windows before work today. Today will have 13 hours and 8 minutes of daytime, an increase of 2 minutes and 50 seconds over yesterday.

Tonight will have a chance of showers, mainly before 8pm. Mostly cloudy 🌧, with a low of 36 degrees at 5am. One degree above normal, which is similiar to a typical night around April 11th. Northwest wind around 10 mph. Chance of precipitation is 30%. New precipitation amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch possible. In 2018, we had cloudy in the evening, which became mostly sunny by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 27 degrees. The record low of 21 occurred back in 1974.

By the time Monday evening rolled around I was feeling pretty sick. I left work at 6:45 pm, caught the bus home 🏑 and laid in bed because I was feeling sick. 😩Headache and signs of a cold. Felt marginal all day long, even worse by the time I got home. Lights were out by nine, I skipped my evening walk in favor of some cold medicine. After a good night’s sleep… I’m feeling quite a bit better today. I am trying to remain as healthy as possible.πŸ™‹

It wasn’t a really warm evening but regardless I left the windows open for fresh air πŸƒ last night with obviously the heat turned all the way off. ⬜ In a few more weeks the windows should be open until October. I did close the windows come the morning as it’s a bit cooler today and going to quite cool tonight although not enough to warrant turning the heat back on.

On the whole, it continues to looks like a weekend on tap. 😎 Saturday, a chance of showers before 8am. Partly sunny, with a high near 62. Chance of precipitation is 30%. Maximum dew point of 48 at 6am. Sunday, a chance of rain. Partly sunny, with a high near 55. Chance of precipitation is 40%. Typical average high for the weekend is 57 degrees.

Weekend forecast still looks pretty good and my priority remains to replace the brake pedal sensor. πŸ₯ I keep watching different YouTube videos to make sure I fully understand the process. I really want my cruise control back. Plus take the bottles and cans to the transfer station. Then repack the camping gear. β›Ί I’m really not sure my plans for Easter Weekend 🐰 maybe I’ll head out of town but only if the forecast improves.

I flipped through Facebook this evening briefly after work but I no longer read πŸ“– my feed more than 2-3 minutes a day. I’ll sometimes go on for a few minutes to the pickup truck camping, off grid and homesteading groups I follow but not the Facebook feed. I’m not going to get myself baited by the proactive memes people post online. I keep seeing things in Facebook that make me want to close it down. I’m quite happy just doing my own thing on the blog.

Looking ahead, Last Sunset After 8:30 PM πŸŒ† is in 14 weeks, Constitution Day πŸ“œ is in 23 weeks, October πŸ›₯ is in 25 weeks and Election Day 2020 πŸ—³οΈ is in 82 weeks.

Looking Out Lean-To

Winter Fades Away to Green.

This week is the first week of the year when most of the nights are above freezing. The average nightly low is 35 degrees at this point — and 37 by the end of the week, which isn’t warm, but without the frost most nights, it seems likely we will start to see some hints of spring popping out in the city.

Research Ponds

It’s foolish to expect lots of green in April, unless it’s an exceptionally warm spring, which this one so far has not been.

Some Green

Step by step though, winter will fade away into a sea of green.
