February 18, 2019 8 AM Update

Good morning! Happy Presidents Day πŸ‘΄! Two weeks to Average High is 40 β˜€οΈ. Snow showers and 21 degrees in Delmar. ☁ There is a northwest breeze at 6 mph. πŸƒ. There are 4 inches of snow on the ground. β˜ƒ ️We added an inch or two last night, hardly plowable, but I’ve heard the plows on the street come through to remove the glaze. I doubt the landlord will plow so I left my truck in its normal spot. πŸš—Things will start to thaw out at Thursday around 7 am. 🌑️ Going to be a cold week.

I woke up this morning and decided it was cold so I turned up the heat for a bit. β˜• It’s nice being a holiday and being able to sit back and enjoy the coffee this morning. Not a big snow event but it certainly makes everything look really pretty outside for sure. ❄

Today, known as Washington’s Birthday to the feds or Presidents Day in New York will have snow showers, possibly mixed with freezing drizzle, becoming all snow after 11am. 🌦 High of 28 degrees at 12pm. Despite all the news commentary, I don’t think it will be a big deal. Seven degrees below normal. North wind 5 to 10 mph. Chance of precipitation is 90%. Little or no ice accumulation expected. Total daytime snow accumulation of 1 to 2 inches possible. β›„A year ago, we had partly cloudy in the morning, which became mostly sunny by afternoon. The high last year was 40 degrees. The record high of 63 was set in 1981. 6.3 inches of snow fell back in 2000.❄

I plan to work on a few little projects around my apartment today then around 12:30 take a bus downtown and head over to John Wolcott’a house to continue work on going through his files.🚌 Beats having to drive over there and gives me something to keep busy.

The sun will set at 5:31 pm with dusk around 6:00 pm, which is one minute and 17 seconds later than yesterday. πŸŒ‡ At sunset, look for snow showers 🌨 and temperatures around 24 degrees. The wind chill around sunset will be 13. β˜ƒοΈ There will be a north-northwest breeze at 11 mph. Today will have 10 hours and 44 minutes of daytime, an increase of 2 minutes and 45 seconds over yesterday.

Probably this evening I will head down to the library for a while to use the internet and return the books I got out of the library. πŸ“š I haven’t been down to library much lately as I find I can do most things I need on my phone.

Tonight will have a chance of snow showers, mainly before 8pm. Mostly cloudy, then gradually becoming mostly clear πŸŒƒ, with a low of 7 degrees at 6am. 11 degrees below normal. Maximum wind chill around -2 at 6am; Northwest wind 7 to 13 mph. Colder night ahead. Chance of precipitation is 30%. New snow accumulation of less than a half inch possible. In 2018, we had partly cloudy. It got down to 23 degrees. The record low of -07 occurred back in 1878.

Tomorrow will be sunny 🌞, with a high of 25 degrees at 2pm. 11 degrees below normal. Cold January weather. Northwest wind 7 to 15 mph, with gusts as high as 28 mph. A year ago, we had partly cloudy in the morning, which became mostly sunny by afternoon. The high last year was 44 degrees. The record high of 66 was set in 1981. 11.4 inches of snow fell back in 1972.❄

I’ve been thinking about building some signs that use LEDs built on plywood for at camp and around the apartment. I was thinking that would be a fun late winter project and I have so many LEDs around.πŸ’‘ Yesterday I went to Lowes, hoping to get a hand drill and a sheet of luaun plywood. πŸ”©They didn’t have a drill. I thought about getting an electric drill but I wanted something quieter so I could work late at night without bothering my neighbors with the noise. I found that Styrofoam poster board just wasn’t durable enough for this purpose.

As previously noted, there are 2 weeks until Average High is 40 β˜€οΈ when the sun will be setting at 5:49 pm with dusk at 6:17 pm. On that day in 2018, we had snow showers, partly cloudy and temperatures between 38 and 32 degrees. We hit a record high of 59 back in 1919. I’ll take more days like that for sure.

Yesterday while shopping at Walmart, I decided to pick up some apple cider vinegar to try adding to my water. I was watching this YouTube video about this farmer that gives it to his cows πŸ„ to make them better use their water and also was reading about a hiker who swears by it in the summer. I figured it certainly is cheap, under two dollars for a decent sized bottle of the tart stuff that looks like apple juice and smells like vinegar. 🍎 A small squirt of it in a glass of water definitely gives it a nicer flavor, even if I’m not sure about the health benefits besides being calorie free, natural flavoring. Maybe it means I’ll drink more water and less milk at home – which as much as I like milk – a few less calories is good. Plus less trash to ultimately take to the transfer station later on or otherwise deal with myself. πŸ”₯ Lately I’ve been trying to cut back on plastic waste even more. Some of that stuff is pretty noxious to burn.

Warm but not the nicest Sunday on tap next weekend. Saturday, mostly sunny, with a high near 41.😎 Sunday, a chance of rain. Cloudy, with a high near 44. Chance of precipitation is 50%. πŸ’¦ Typical average high for the weekend is 37 degrees. Probably end up staying in town next week but at least it will work on getting rid of the snow and hopefully the ice too.

I also picked up an 100 watt LED equivalent bulb to use in the lamp over my bed I have pointed at my ceiling. πŸ’‘Not as bright as the 150 watt equivalent bulb I originally planned to buy but a lot cheaper and I think it’s plenty of light to wake me up in the morning. Much brighter than the bulb I had previously in there.

In four weeks on March 18 the sun will be setting at 7:05 pm (Daylight Savings Time),πŸŒ„ which is one hour, 34 minutes and 3 seconds later then today. In 2018 on that day, we had a rather cold but mostly sunny day with temperatures between 32 and 7 degrees. Typically, you have temperatures between 45 and 26 degrees. The record high of 69 degrees was set back in 2012. That had to be some bone chilling weather last year.

Definitely looking forward to some more nights in the wilderness, β›Ί but at this point I’m not all that excited about hot tenting as I’ve done enough of that for the year. Hopefully the snow won’t last too long into April. Still thinking about a big trip come Easter Weekend.

Looking ahead, Average High is 40 β˜€οΈ is in 2 weeks, April Fools Day 🀑 is in 6 weeks, Tax Day πŸ’° is in 8 weeks, Average High is 60 🌼 is in 2 months, Earth Day 🌎 is in 9 weeks, Memorial Day πŸ‡ΊπŸ‡Έ is in 14 weeks, July 🏊🏿 is in 19 weeks and Last Sunset After 8 PM πŸŒ† is in 25 weeks.
