Defense of Wearing T-Shirts

In defense of wearing t-shirts in the winter…

I often wear t-shirts at home in the winter, like I do in the summer. πŸ‘•Β They are comfortable. But I rarely have the heat above 60 degrees in my apartment, many times it’s much less. T-shirts are comfortable, and are one of many layers I wear in the winter. Over the t-shirt when I’m home, I will often throw on a flannel or my wonderful blaze-orange hoodie that live in from October to May each year. Rather then wear a long-sleeve shirt, I’d rather wear a t-shirt and dress in layers. This way it reduces amount of wash, πŸ‘šas only the lowest layers need to be washed regularly, and it still keeps me warm. ♨

I still think Mary Barra, CEO of General Motors would be a very good Democratic candidate for president.

I still think Mary Barra, CEO of General Motors would be a very good Democratic candidate for president. I would vote for her in a heart beat.

She’s been an outstanding leader for GM, somebody who worked her way up to the shop floor, understands economics and hard decisions really well. I think she could take on Trump and beat him. We need people in government that really understand business and working people, somebody who is smart with fresh ideas.

I realize it’s unlikely that Mary Barra will be the Democratic Party’s nominee in 2020 but I still think she has a lot of potential.

November 28, 2018 Evening

Good evening! Partly cloudy or maybe more like mostly cloudy this evening in Colonie as I head to pick up my pick up truck on the CDTA Route 1. ☁ Breezy, ️17 mph breeze from the west-northwest 🌬 with gusts up to 31 mph 💨💨💨. It wouldn’t be a half bad late November evening, if not for the wind. Going to be cold though walking up Wolf Road in a few minutes. Snow has bit the bucket locally. Temperatures will drop below freezing at tomorrow around 8 pm. β˜ƒοΈ

Tonight will have a chance of rain and snow showers, mainly before 8pm. Mostly cloudy 🌧, with a low of 33 degrees at 3am. Five degrees above normal, which is similiar to a typical night around November 12th. Northwest wind 14 to 16 mph, with gusts as high as 29 mph. Chance of precipitation is 30%. Little or no snow accumulation expected. In 2017, we had mostly cloudy skies. It got down to 28 degrees. The record low of 3 occurred back in 1875.

Big Red passed his inspection, so that’s one less thing to worry about. I didn’t think it would fail but you never know. 🚗 I don’t drive much in the winter but the inspection sticker now is good for a while. Bar any surprises, I think Big Red will be good for a while. Maybe in the spring have an oil change done but that can go a while if I’m not driving much.

Traffic is fairly backed up on Central Avenue tonight, 🚙🚚🚗🚓🚕🚒🚐🚌 although I guess it’s rush hour and that’s to be expected. I’m not driving, and the dealer doesn’t close until eight so I’m not concerned. Warm inside the bus at the least.

Tonight will have a Last Quarter with 59% illuminated with the moon rising at 10:20 pm. The moon will set at 12:36 am. The Last Quarter Moon will be tonight. The Cold Moon 🌝 is on Friday, December 21st. The sun will rise at 7:03 am with the first light at 6:32 am, which is one minute and 6 seconds later than yesterday. 🌄 Tonight will have 14 hours and 40 minutes of darkness, an increase of one minute and 32 seconds over last night.

Tomorrow will be partly sunny 🌞, with a high of 41 degrees at 12pm. One degree below normal, which is similiar to a typical day around December 1st. Northwest wind 13 to 15 mph, with gusts as high as 28 mph. It will be a nice day except maybe for the breeze. That might make it feel a bit cold but still it’s a change from times of recent. A year ago, we had mostly cloudy skies. The high last year was 56 degrees. The record high of 66 was set in 2005. 3.3 inches of snow fell back in 1945.❄

Right now, a split verdict on the weekend. πŸ˜• Saturday, a chance of showers after 1pm. Partly sunny, with a high near 40. Chance of precipitation is 30%. Sunday, rain likely. Cloudy, with a high near 52. Chance of precipitation is 60%. Typical average high for the weekend is 41 degrees.

Maybe I’ll head out of town on Saturday it’s certainly going to be quite mild and the ice threat has declined.β›Ί I’d have to figure out where I would want to go. If not there is certainly things I can work on locally. Rifle season is almost over so I can have the woods back again. 🌲

Still thinking about that USB 3.0 hub. I might stop at Staples later on. That hub would sure be convenient especially now that I have more and more USB devices. 🔌 It’s a good price but it’s still $30 and I hate buying more material stuff. I could get a cheap Chinese thing from Aliexpress but I want something that will last. Everything seems to use USB these days, which I guess is a good thing.

Tomorrow is my dental cleaning at 7:50 am. Bright and early. 😁 I don’t plan to go to the library tonight but instead plan to read and retire to bed, maybe after laying out another electronics project on the breadboard. I’m tired and I will retire to bed early. It’s been warm enough that I’ve been turning the heat way down in the day time but if I’m cold this evening, I’ll probably cue up the electric heat.😮 I’ve also heard that getting an electric blanket is a good, relatively efficient way to stay warm in the winter while keeping the heat low. I’m sure once I own my cabin and land with a good wood supply, I’ll probably keep things a lot warmer. 🔥

In four weeks on December 26 the sun will be setting at 4:28 pm,🌄 which is 4 minutes and 25 seconds later then tonight. In 2017 on that day, we had snow, partly cloudy skies and temperatures between 22 and 8 degrees. Typically, you have temperatures between 33 and 18 degrees. The record high of 59 degrees was set back in 1895.

Looking ahead, Boxing Day 🥊 is in 4 weeks, 4:30 PM Sunset 🌆 is a month away, National Cheese Lovers Day 🧀 is in 8 weeks, National Pie Day 🍰 is in 8 weeks, 7 PM Sunset 🌆 is in 15 weeks, Average High is 50 🌸 is in 4 months, May 🕊 is in 22 weeks, 8:30 PM Sunset ️⛱️ is in 27 weeks and Inauguration Day 2021 👴🏻 is in 112 weeks.

November 28, 2018 Morning

Good morning! What day is it? Hump Day, of course. Four weeks to Boxing Day 🥊. Cloudy and damp, around 36 degrees in Colonie. There is a west-northwest breeze at 14 mph. 🍃 with gusts up to 24 mph 💨💨💨. Pretty much snow free except for some piles around. Temperatures will drop below freezing at tomorrow around 9 pm. β˜ƒοΈ

Big Red has been dropped off for his state inspection. It sure is easy to drop him off in Colonie and take the bus downtown from there. Hopefully he will pass with flying colors and I won’t have to worry about it for another year. I don’t plan to drive much this winter and it’s rare that I see an inspection check as I drive so little and mostly in remote country but it’s good to have things looked over. 🚗Parking and driving at Denooyer is the biggest pain of them all though but getting there isn’t too bad although there was a bit of traffic on Interstate 90 heading west bound.

Today will be scattered rain and snow showers before 11am, then scattered rain showers between 11am and 1pm, then a slight chance of rain and snow showers after 1pm. Cloudy 🌧, with a high of 38 degrees at 12pm. Five degrees below normal, which is similiar to a typical day around December 8th. West wind 14 to 17 mph, with gusts as high as 31 mph. Chance of precipitation is 40%. Total daytime snow accumulation of less than a half inch possible. A year ago, we had mostly cloudy skies. The high last year was 45 degrees. The record high of 68 was set in 1990. 6 inches of snow fell back in 1985.❄

The sun will set at 4:23 pm with dusk around 4:55 pm, which is 26 seconds earlier than yesterday. 🌇 At sunset, look for rain 🌧 and snow 🌨 and temperatures around 37 degrees. Breezy, 17 mph breeze β›… from the west-northwest with gusts up to 31mph. Today will have 9 hours and 20 minutes of daytime, a decrease of one minute and 32 seconds over yesterday.

Tonight will have a slight chance of rain and snow showers before 9pm. Mostly cloudy 🌧, with a low of 32 degrees at 3am. Four degrees above normal, which is similiar to a typical night around November 16th. Northwest wind 14 to 16 mph, with gusts as high as 29 mph. Chance of precipitation is 20%. In 2017, we had mostly cloudy skies. It got down to 28 degrees. The record low of 3 occurred back in 1875.

Heading downtown I was noticing how trashy Colonie along Central Avenue has gotten lately. I guess for a long time it’s been pretty ghettoized but with the gray skies on this winter morning it looked particularly decrepit. I guess that’s to be expected in our throw away society – buildings and neighborhoods are built cheaply than are left to rot.

Assuming the inspection goes well, I am thinking of stopping at Staples and picking up their 7 port USB 3.0 powered hub. I have an unpowered four port hub at home but it is not enough for the number of USB things I have and I worry about burning out the power supply on my computer power like I think I might have done with my last laptop.

The Bluetooth controlled dimmer over my bed works well, now I want to work on building a better software app on my phone for it. 💻It would be cool if it turned on automatically as soon as my phone paired with it and off when it lost connection. Maybe I’d also like to tie it in with the alarm clock app on my phone. 📱One concern I have with it is that I did notice the Arduino is running a bit warm from the linear voltage regulator stepping down the 12 volts to 5 VDC but I’m not going to build an external regulator or voltage divider until I have actual problems. The indicator power light on the arduino is a bit annoying too, I’m going to see if I can turn it off in software, short it out, or paint or marker over it.

Looking ahead, there are 4 weeks until Boxing Day 🥊 when the sun will be setting at 4:28 pm with dusk at 5:00 pm. On that day in 2017, we had snow, partly cloudy skies and temperatures between 22 and 8 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 33 degrees. We hit a record high of 59 back in 1895.
