August 9, 2018 Night

Good evening! Mostly clear and 74 degrees in Delmar. There is a west breeze at 7 mph. 🍃. The dew point is 63 degrees.

I went for my evening walk then came back inside and are laying in my bed next to the fan.🚶 Ever since I got my fan I’ve become more of a fan of just laying back to relax. Sitting out back is fine but when you’re tired sometimes laying back us better. 💤

It’s been a real struggle for me to get back in the groove after vacation 😫 with everything going on at work, staying late, dealing with my apartment issue earlier this week, then getting my eyes checked today.

Tonight will be partly cloudy ☁, with a low of 67 degrees at 3am. Four degrees above normal. Maximum dew point of 64 at 11pm. West wind 5 to 7 mph becoming calm after midnight. In 2017, we had mostly cloudy skies, clearing in the early hours of the next day. It got down to 60 degrees. The record low of 48 occurred back in 1955.

Tonight will have a Waning Crescent Moon 🌘 with 2% illuminated. The moon will rise at 4:46 am. The New Moon will be tomorrow with a chance of showers. The Strugeon Moon 🌝 is on Saturday, August 25th. The sun will rise at 5:56 am with the first light at 5:25 am, which is one minute and 4 seconds later than yesterday. 🌄 Tonight will have 9 hours and 52 minutes of darkness, an increase of 2 minutes and 26 seconds over last night.

Tomorrow will have a slight chance of showers after 2pm. Partly sunny 🌞 , with a high of 81 degrees at 3pm. Typical for Tomorrow. Maximum dew point of 65 at 10am. North wind 3 to 5 mph. Chance of precipitation is 20%. A year ago, we had mostly sunny skies. The high last year was 85 degrees. The record high of 96 was set in 1949.

Not a particularly nice weekend on tap. πŸ™ Saturday, a chance of showers and thunderstorms. Cloudy, with a high near 74. North wind 3 to 5 mph. Chance of precipitation is 50%. New rainfall amounts between a quarter and half of an inch possible. Maximum dew point of 62 at 5pm. Sunday, a slight chance of thunderstorms, then a chance of showers and thunderstorms after 8am. Cloudy, with a high near 76. Chance of precipitation is 30%. New rainfall amounts of less than a tenth of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms. Maximum dew point of 67 at 8pm. Typical average high for the weekend is 81 degrees.

I think this will be a a stay in town weekend, 🏡 although I’ll continue to watch the weather as it progresses. I still wouldn’t mind one night in the wilderness, I might find a state forest not too far away to hang up my hammock and build a fire for the night. 🔥

I got talked into buying another pair of glasses at the eye doctor today, which is fine I guess because the total bill with insurance seemed less than last time. I also got contacts. Having a few good pair of glasses around is good for emergencies and my insurance covers all but the $50 anti glare and scratch coating where the profit is made.👓 The thing is almost never wear my good glasses and I use a scratched up pair for going to the bathroom and getting ready in the morning. My good pair of glasses I have now already are almost brand new but I guess it’s good I’m getting a third pair.

I will also be getting a year supply of contacts for $150, but that comes with a $50 mail in rebate which is cheaper than buying online.💰 I got my pupils dilated and all checks out well because I haven’t done that in years. My parents have both has eye surgery so I figured I should have them checked before problems could manifest. That said the eyes stayed somewhat dilated for the rest of the day, the first few hours I got back to work I had a lot of trouble seeing, especially my phone. 📱They recovered as the day progressed but even at six forty five they were sensitive enough to light that I had to wear sunglasses. 😎

Discovered on Tuesday when I washed my truck 🚗 that I can actually clear the nine foot car wash with the kayak racks on. That’s good as I like the racks on to protect the solar panel and it’s kind of a pain to remove them. I was happy about that especially come winter.

I was surprised how long it was to take the Route 13 bus from Price Chopper to downtown. I would have thought New Scotland would be a lot quicker, 🚌 but I guess going to Shoprite and then stopping along the way it took basically more than a half hour to get downtown. I think Delaware Avenue on the 18 from my house is a lot faster, but th not again traffic is lighter.

I was listening to another issue of the Planet Money Indicator podcast, continuing to talk about the yield curve and how it remains positive but is flattening out, 🎢 suggesting that we still have some time until a recession. I was kind of hoping for a recession this fall so I could buy some discounted securities as right now I think the market is kind of over priced📈. While I practice cost averaging each pay period, I have a CD maturing this autumn and was hoping to plunk some of that into the market. I want to get in more when things are cheap so the money can grow more and I can get closer to my dream of the off grid cabin.🏠 Although I have to say some internet purchased FDIC insured CDs are now at 2.25% for the year which is fairly attractive, although still a bit below inflation. Unfortunately when I work my other job this fall, I won’t get deferred comp so I’m going to get hit with a big tax penalty but so be it. I can invest the money myself post tax I guess during that period. I just try to be careful and work hard for a better tomorrow.

In four weeks on September 6 the sun will be setting at 7:20 pm,🌄 which is 44 minutes and 34 seconds earlier then tonight. In 2017 on that day, we had rain, patches of fog, mist, cloudy skies and temperatures between 63 and 58 degrees. Typically, you have temperatures between 76 and 55 degrees. The record high of 91 degrees was set back in 1983.

Looking ahead, State Primary Day 🗳️ is in 5 weeks, November 🥧 is in 12 weeks and Thanksgiving 🦃 is in 15 weeks.
