July 9, 2018 Morning

Good morning! Monday’s come back around again. Next Monday is the Last Sunset After 8:30 PM 🌆. How fast summer comes and goes. Sunny and 70 degrees in the land of the Delmaritian. 🌞 There is a southwest breeze at 7 mph. 🍃. The dew point is 59 degrees. The forecast for all week looks quite pleasant – about as nice as it gets with a few exceptions. 😺Yeah, it may tip into the nineties this week but the humidity will be relatively low. Not a heat wave even if the mercury is somewhat above normal.

Today will be sunny 🌞 , with a high of 84 degrees at 3pm. Three degrees above normal. Maximum dew point of 60 at 9am. West wind 6 to 8 mph. Should be a a very nice summer day. A year ago, we had mostly sunny skies with more clouds in the afternoon. The high last year was 83 degrees. The record high of 103 was set in 1936.

The sun will set at 8:36 pm with dusk around 9:10 pm, which is 27 seconds earlier than yesterday. 🌇 At sunset, look for clear skies and 76 degrees. The dew point will be 57 degrees. There will be a west-southwest breeze at 6 mph. You can’t beat that. Today will have 15 hours and 7 minutes of daytime, an increase of one minute and 11 seconds over yesterday.

Tonight will be clear 🌌 , with a low of 64 degrees at 5am. Two degrees above normal. Maximum dew point of 59 at 6am. Southwest wind around 6 mph. In 2017, we had mostly clear skies with more clouds in the early hours of the next day. It got down to 64 degrees. The record low of 47 occurred back in 1963.

After having problems with my phone, and the Google Play library it seems like it’s back up and running. 📲My phone doesn’t have a lot of memory so that the upgrades don’t always work perfectly and it’s a cheap knockoff economy phone that sometimes crashes. But it does the job for now and has proven quite durable with the protective case after I drop it every five minutes.

It seems like there is a lot of traffic heading downtown but maybe it’s because I caught the earlier bus downtown. 🚌I have a lot going on today, so I have to get in early. This usually is one of the craziest weeks of the year at work.

The weekend that was, might be described as pretty nice, getting a lot done fixing the truck cap then hiking Huntersfield Mountain and Vroman’s Nose, but exploring the nature trail around Looking Glass Lake, swimming at Mine Kill State Park, visiting the amazing new Old Blenheim Bridge, farm stands, ice cream, etc. 🍒🍓🍦🌳🌼 I hope to get back to Schoharie County come August but it depends on my schedule.

If the forecast remains true, I’m hoping to get back up to the Adirondacks. 🗻I’m thinking Piseco Powley Road and paddling Canada Lake although maybe instead I’ll head to Little Falls and check out the wildflowers on Moss Island and see how many carp I can scare with my kayak on the Mohawk River.

Although first I have to fix the broken headlight on my truck. πŸ’‘ While not difficult to do i do have to pull the air filter and box to get to the bulb. It’s an excuse to replace the air filter while I’m at it which gets quite dirty with the rough country I travel.

The toilet in my apartment is working fine this morning, but it’s gotten increasingly problematic with it flushing properly. 🚽 The next time u have to reach into the tank to fix the gasket or the float, I’m calling the landlord. I cracked the toilet bowl cover the last time I had my arm in there, so I’m getting really annoyed with the mechanism.

As previously noted, next Monday is Last Sunset After 8:30 PM 🌆 when the sun will be setting at 8:32 pm with dusk at 9:05 pm. On that day in 2017, we had partly cloudy skies and temperatures between 85 and 61 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 83 degrees. We hit a record high of 97 back in 1900.

Oyrez – Reynolds v. Simms

Oyrez – Reynolds v. Simms

With the Supreme Court confirmation process underway, maybe it's time to re-think how we elect US Senators in our country. It doesn't seem right that New York State gets the same number of Senators as Vermont, as New York has 31 times more people then Vermont.

In Reynolds v. Sims, the Supreme Court ruled that State Governments could not have Senate bodies, elected by one Senator per County. Instead, they had to use proportional representation. Maybe it's time for the Supreme Court to consider if the two US Senators for every state (regardless of population) is constitutional.

If you are in Southern Schoharie County, do check out the full-size replica of the Old Blenheim Bridge they are building. It’s really impressive. πŸŒ‰

July 8, 2018 8:44 pm Update

Yesterday, I was driving along Duck Pond Truck Trail in West Fulton. When slowing down to pass, a guy flags me down and says “Bro, you have a headlight out.” I thanked him.

Yeap, my low beam isn’t working on my truck. Bulb is visible burnt out. With the lift kit raising the low-beams to nearly 4 feet off the ground the truck has such bad low beams you can’t see shit after dark on the road with both low beams working.

Doesn’t look hard to replace the headlight bulb — I think it’s just two GM body bolts have to be pulled. I’m going to stop by Advanced Auto this week, buy a new bulb and replace it, certainly before I try to drive at night and can’t see anything at all.

So is life.
