Replaced both low beams in my truck, even though only had failed. That’s what the General suggested. Pulling the air box to get the passenger side was really easy. Not difficult on the driver side although pulling the accessory battery to get the driver side one was a bit heavy to lift. While I pulled the air box to get to the blown one on the passenger side I replaced the the air filter. The air filter was dirty as heck, I guess it’s been a few years since I’ve replaced that.

Technically it’s called a “combination” H11 bulb, even though it’s only a low beam, with one filament as it’s driven at a lower voltage during the daytime to serve as daytime running lights. Kind of a clever idea – under running a bulb can serve that secondary purpose of daytime running lights while avoiding having a whole second light bulb assembly.

Being an ideological partisan, I want to state for the record that I think Edison was right and Westinghouse was wrong - direct current is more efficient and more useful at any particular voltage than alternating current. Direct current motors are more powerful. Direct current doesn't lose energy through impedence, only resistance. It's true AC alternators are more efficient and longer laster than DC generators, and that more power can be transmitted at higher voltages and lower amperage than. But you can easily convert AC to DC using a bridge rectifier with diodes and that buck regulators and boost converters can easily step up or down DC voltage for transmission and use. It's true that diodes and high speed switching transistors didn't exist in Edison's time but I suspect most electrical systems would be largely DC powered today. Probably a lot more solar and local fossil generation would be the norm today, had the grid not been previously built.

They say all good things must end these days, autumn leaves must fall. 🍂But first in two weeks my summer vacation begins, assuming I leave on a Friday night right after work. Mostly sunny and 68 degrees in Delmar. Calm wind. The dew point is 59 degrees.

Today will be sunny 🌞 , with a high of 87 degrees at 3pm. Four degrees above normal. Maximum dew point of 61 at 11am. Calm wind. A year ago, we had partly cloudy skies with more clouds in the afternoon. It was humid. The high last year was 78 degrees. The record high of 96 was set in 1894.

The sun will set at 8:32 pm with dusk around 9:06 pm, which is 35 seconds earlier than yesterday. 🌇 At sunset, look for mostly clear skies and80 degrees. The dew point will be 57 degrees. There will be a south breeze at 6 mph. Today will have 15 hours and 2 minutes of daytime, an decrease of one minute and 24 seconds over yesterday.

Tonight will be partly cloudy ☁, with a low of 64 degrees at 5am. Two degrees above normal. Maximum dew point of 61 at 11pm. South wind around 6 mph. In 2017, we had mostly cloudy skies. It got down to 63 degrees. The record low of 49 occurred back in 1940.

I popped the hood when I got home and determined I need my star wrench to get the air filter box out so I can replace the headlight bulb. I think I know where that is and hopefully this won’t be a a difficult problem tomorrow. 💡 Sunday is going to be hot, may do some kayak fishing then. 🚣 I also want to get some more books out of the library and work on an electronics project. Maybe next weekend I’ll get up to the Adirondacks as summer will be gone before you know it, especially once my summer vacation is done.

Today the average high is 83 degrees, we are in the hottest portion of the year. In six weeks, the average high will fall back to 79 degrees. 😎

Summer is not endless, get out and enjoy it before summer twenty ought eighteen is just one for the history books.
