April 3, 2018 – Next Sixteen Weeks

Now that the first week of April is  underway, 🌞 the weather is rapidly starting to warm up with average nights now above freezing,🌼 and many days typically getting up into the mid-50s. Particularly notable this time of year is how quickly things warm up, and how much more daylight we are picking up in the evening.🌷 That will slow a bit as May starts to roll around but soon the weather will be getting quite a bit nicer. 🌻

South Dakotan Says G.O.P. Paid Humphrey Hecklers – The New York Times

The party leaders, J. C. Noonan, said "Goldwater supΒporters had hired the students to jeer and interrupt Mr. HumΒphrey, the Democratic ViceΒ Presidential candidate, in a speech at the national cornΒpicking contest.

The dizzying story of Symphony of the Seas, the largest and most ambitious cruise ship ever built

The dizzying story of Symphony of the Seas, the largest and most ambitious cruise ship ever built

"Symphony of the Seas – which, on its maiden voyage from Barcelona in March 2018 became the largest passenger ship ever built – is about five times the size of the Titanic. At 362 metres long, you could balance it on its stern and its bow would tower over all but two of Europe’s tallest skyscrapers. Owned and operated by Miami-based cruise line Royal Caribbean, it can carry nearly 9,000 people and contains more than 40 restaurants and bars; 23 pools, jacuzzis and water slides; two West End-sized theatres; an ice rink; a surf simulator; two climbing walls; a zip line; a fairground carousel; a mini-golf course; a ten-storey fun slide; laser tag; a spa; a gym; a casino; plus dozens more shopping and entertainment opportunities. To put it another way, Symphony of the Seas might be the most ludicrously entertaining luxury hotel in history. It just also happens to float."

April 3, 2018 Morning

Good morning! Happy Tuesday. Two weeks to Tax Day 💰. My taxes are done but I doubt I’ve gotten my federal refund yet, which I will need to pay my state taxes. Overcast and 35 degrees in Delmar, NY. ☁ There is a south-southeast breeze at 8 mph. 🍃. The skies will clear tomorrow around 7 pm.

Today will rain, mainly after 1pm. β˜” So yes, bring your umbrella. High of 43 degrees at 3pm. 10 degrees below normal. Southeast wind 8 to 13 mph. Chance of precipitation is 90%. New precipitation amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch possible. Going to be a fairly cold and wet afternoon. A year ago, we had mostly cloudy skies with some clearing in the afternoon. The high last year was 61 degrees. The record high of 79 was set in 1981. 11 inches of snow fell back in 1891.❄

The sun will set at 7:24 pm with dusk around 7:52 pm, which is one minute and 8 seconds later than yesterday. 🌇 At sunset, look for rain ☁ and 40 degrees. There will be a south-southeast breeze at 9 mph. Today will have 12 hours and 51 minutes of daytime, an increase of 2 minutes and 52 seconds over yesterday.

Tonight will rain, mainly before 2am, then showers likely after 2am. β˜” Low of 40 degrees at 6pm. Eight degrees above normal. South wind 7 to 13 mph. Chance of precipitation is 80%. New precipitation amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch possible. In 2017, we had mostly cloudy skies. It got down to 42 degrees. The record low of 14 occurred back in 1954.

Today is pay day. As I keep tweaking my deferred compensation and investment accounts I struggle to know exactly how much I will end up getting paid.💲 I guess I will find out when I check my bank account at the end of the day. I do have to pay off my credit card.💸 Hopefully I have enough money to have sufficient funds. I think so but sometimes my back of the napkin calculations aren’t perfect because taxes are complicated business.

Been looking at cash back credit cards. Well over 90% of my purchases are done on credit cards and right now I am using this LL Bean card🎣 I’ve had for decades now that I almost never use the rewards for.💵 I really would prefer to get cash back but I’m hesitant to get a Discover Card just because a lot of places don’t take them because of the higher charge backs to retailers. I actually have a stack of offers on my table at home I’ve been thumbing through. I just want any credit card I get to have auto pay and a good online website.💳 I guess such things are fairly common nowadays. It’s no longer 2001 with a shitty Capital One card that was my first one those decades ago. Back then with no credit history, I didn’t have many choices.

Finally caught back up on sleep. 💤I am feeling much better and rested today. I made sure to get to bed early and I slept soundly.📻 I left the BBC playing low all night on my new transistor radio but I don’t remember any of the news so I must have slept well.

Got to run to the store after work. I have no contact solution left. 👀I found a small sample bottle but it won’t last long. 👝I didn’t get out shopping last night like I promised myself because I was tired so I’ll just have to drop off the dry cleaning one morning then catch the express bus in one morning. I have some time on the dry cleaning as no session for two weeks.

Maybe start working on cleaning out my refigerator tonight.🍲🍛🍅 That really needs to get done so I can have those glass and metal containers cleaned and ready for the transfer station this weekend.

I really like how those warm white LEDS work for background lighting. Once I get those boost converters from China,🔋 I will be able to build even bigger strings with several leds in series rather than just parallel with a resistor. The prior would be simpler to wire and more efficient at least in theory.

I am thinking about going to the Bethlehem Neighbors for Peace forum on gun violence🔫 on Thursday, mostly to cause trouble and to learn better what the other side is thinking. While I am pretty sure that the gun controllers are just a bunch of bigots trying to imprison as many people👮 that aren’t colored or poor as possible on grounds of equity, I’m interested to learn more.

As previously noted, there are 2 weeks until Tax Day 💰 when the sun will be setting at 7:40 pm with dusk at 8:09 pm. On that day in 2017, we had rain, partly cloudy skies and temperatures between 66 and 46 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 59 degrees. We hit a record high of 91 back in 2002.

1950s Cook Binaural records

"A look at and listen to Emory Cook's crazy binaural LPs, which brought stereo sound to vinyl records five years before Columbia and other major record labels introduced stereo records in the format that is still used today."
