The toll on I-66 inside the Beltway hit $46.50 on Tuesday
If it keeps traffic moving, then it's worth it. You always have the option to take the local road, carpool or take a bus if you don't want to pay the high toll for the expressway, which is guaranteed to keep you moving at least 45 MPH, during times of peak demand.
The toll keeps increasing, until enough people abandon the road to guarantee a 45 MPH speed.
Before the toll, there would be constant stop and go traffic on the Beltway. The toll made the excess traffic take other roads, keeping this one moving smoothly for carpools, buses, and those in a real rush to get somewhere.
