August 29, 2017 Morning

Good morning! Happy Tuesday. Five weeks to Friday the 13th (October).Β Overcast, gray and 53 degrees in Delmar, NY. Calm wind. The dew point is 51 degrees. The skies will clear tomorrow around 9 am.

Today will be partly sunny, with a high of 70 degrees at 3pm. Eight degrees below normal. Maximum dew point of 52 at 5pm. Calm wind becoming east around 6 mph in the afternoon. A year ago, we had mostly sunny skies. The high last year was 84 degrees. The record high of 95 was set in 1953.

The sun will set at 7:33 pm with dusk around 8:02 pm, which is one minute and 41 seconds earlier than yesterday. At sunset, look for mostly cloudy conditions and 64 degrees. The dew point will be 52 degrees. There will be a east breeze at 6 mph. Today will have 13 hours and 15 minutes of daytime, an increase of 2 minutes and 46 seconds over yesterday.

Tonight will have a slight chance of showers between 1am and 3am. Mostly cloudy, with a low of 54 degrees at 4am. Six degrees below normal. Maximum dew point of 53 at 10pm. East wind around 5 mph becoming calm in the evening. Chance of precipitation is 20%. In 2016, we had mostly cloudy skies, clearing in the early hours of the next day. It got down to 54 degrees. The record low of 38 occurred back in 1982.

Last night I pulled out my camp stove and cooked up some burgers, corn, and mushrooms.Β It was a pretty good dinner. I do have a campfire grill but I don’t own a propane grill for use at home, but the campstove with the cast iron griddle with the grill surface works quite well. I don’t like cooking burgers on the electric stove inside, because I won’t use the griddle on that, because of the risk of fire from the grease, even if it makes good burgers. Then I went down to the library for a while.

The faucet in the bathtub has developed a drip so I put a call into the landlord to get fixed. Spent some time cleaning things up in the apartment prior to his arrival although I doubt he will be over today. I hate to waste water, especially in the energy intensive methods that it produced and disposed of in the city. It also gave me an excuse to clean up the camping gear and get some of it put away before my next adventure, possibly for the Labor Day Weekend.

No idea what I will do for Labor Day Weekend. Maybe Moose River Plains, which is the traditional choice. But I get bored with that and if the weather is marginal I might do something more local like camping in a state forest or going up to Green Mountain National Forest. We will see. The weather is such a great variable with those hurricanes out there and so much rain that we’ve had this summer.

On this day in 1966, the Beatles perform their last concert before paying fans at Candlestick Park in San Francisco. After this, if you wanted to hear the beatles, you had to listen to them on vinyl records or AM radio. Their next album would be Sargent Pepper’s Lonely Club Heart band, and it would have a dramatically different sound then the Love, Love Me Do records.

Looking ahead, there are 5 weeks until Friday the 13th (October) when the sun will be setting at 6:32 pm with dusk at 7:00 pm. On that day in 2016, we had drizzle, mostly cloudy skies and temperatures between 72 and 57 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 65 degrees. We hit a record high of 83 back in 1967.
