Already starting to get hot and humid with temperatures up to 76 degrees and dew point around 70. Some clouds are holding back the fury of the sun but all together it seems like today is going to be a hot one. Upper 80s with more heat and humidity later. We might even see the dew point climb to a very oppressive 72 degrees later.
Walked down to the Park and Ride, and my only reward is that I am dripping in sweat. But the air conditioning feels good on the bus, so I’m not complaining. You can definitely see the haze going into the city this morning.
The sun will set at 8:32 pm with dusk around 9:06 pm, which is 33 seconds earlier than yesterday. At sunset, look for partly cloudy conditions and 78 degrees. The dew point will be 70 degrees. There will be a north-northwest breeze at 5 mph. Today will have 15 hours and 3 minutes of daytime, an increase of one minute and 20 seconds over yesterday.
Tonight will have a chance of showers and thunderstorms, mainly after 1am. Mostly cloudy, with a low of 66 degrees at 4am. Four degrees above normal. Maximum dew point of 72 at 6pm. North wind around 6 mph becoming calm after midnight. Chance of precipitation is 30%. New rainfall amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms. In 2016, we had cloudy skies. It got down to 70 degrees. The record low of 45 occurred back in 1939.
On this day in 1967, the Newark Riots begin with over six days of rioting, looting, and destruction leaving 26 dead. We really are fortunate that despite living troubled times, there has been no rioting in our cities. Things have really been quite peaceful this year, probably because the jack booted thugs are keeping the colored and poor down in the cities.
There is a bit of traffic heading into the city, but there often is at this hour. Some of it is gawkers looking at the demolition of the Howard Johnson which I’m sure it was arson to avoid paying for an asbestos abatement but the media has awful quiet probably because the police and district attorney see no media value in expressing an opinion on the matter.
Tomorrow evening I will get packed for the Adirondacks. The forecast looks nice but hot. I still like the idea of White House and Wells but I could see the Potholers and Piseco-Powley Road as quite attractive given the sultry weather expected for the weekend.
In little over a week and a half I will be heading out to the Finger Lakes. I hope we have hot weather like this when I’m out there, so it will be nice in the pool and hiking those scenic gorges. I’ll take a nice heat wave that week for sure.
Only one month remains until Last Sunset After 8 PM when the sun will be setting at 8:00 pm with dusk at 8:30 pm. The average high temperature is 82 degrees, with a record high of 96 in 1935.
Summer ain’t going to last. Get out and enjoy before it’s gone!
