September 19, 2016 Morning

Good morning! Monday’s come back around again.Β Back to work. I do miss the quiet time that taking the bus to work used to involve. That said, those days will return come winter. Right, now mostly cloudy and 66 degrees in North Syracuse. Calm wind. The dew point is 63 degrees. The skies will clear around 11 am. We have another hot day on store, already pretty damp out but later it will get quite warm for the second half of September.

Going to be quite warm until the weekend.Β Always seem like we have really warm weather until it crashes down to sixties then the fifties and the forties. Last year in Syracuse today, it was 83 degrees. Β Then the next day it crashed down to 67 degrees for the high. Temperatures in the low to mid 80s all week, tThen only 67 degrees for a high on Saturday in Syracuse and 66 on Sunday. Sounds chilly, but the reality is that’s only about two or three degrees below normal for Syracuse this time of year. We are in the second half of September if you can believe that already. Remember, Thursday is the first day of calendar fall. That said, it seems like peak foliage at Moose River Plains will be later then usual this year.

Today will be partly sunny, with a high of 80 degrees at 4pm. Nine degrees above normal. Maximum dew point of 65 at 10am. Light and variable wind. The record high of 90 was set in 1946. Not a terrible day but it sure was muggy out for several hours today. Walking down by the lake this morning was pretty nice. There are some nice views of Syracuse there. I might start doing that as a hike a few times a week before work each day. Other then that, we had showers on and off and it was super humid and somewhat warm for late September. A fairly uneventful day, but I got a few things checked off my list for the day.

Onondaga Lake is quite pretty, although at the northern tip, it’s quite urban with the Thruway roaring in the background. People talk about its legacy of pollution from salt mining and the production of soda for glass and other products, but Syracuse has a nice backdrop of hills behind it. In contrast, the lake and points north as you get into the Lake Ontario flatlands. Hiked about four miles round trip on the lake from the Liverpool Yacht Club to the northern tip of the lake. For being in a city, it is quite nice.

September 17, 2016 10 PM Update

Good evening! Rain and 73 degrees in North Syracuse. Rain is good. My truck is covered in dust and mud, and we are in a drought. There is a south breeze at 11 mph. The dew point is 64 degrees. The skies will clear Monday around 10 am. The rain held off for a while except for a brief shower but it was quite dreary out for most of the afternoon.

While the morning was quite nice, the afternoon was so humid and damp that you never knew when the next downpour would occur. Thought about visiting the Syracuse Gun Show but that didn’t happen because the admission price was $7 and it was the other side of town at the fairgrounds. I still kind of want to buy the 30-06, I’ve been thinking about getting, and I’m thinking I could get a better quality deer rifle for less money used. But I was lazy. Maybe I should have just gotten that Remington 783 I looked at in August on sale but was sacred off by some of the reviews. Otherwise, generally a pretty quite Saturday, spent some time tweaking some code on the blog. Hoping to do some hiking and fishing tomorrow but only if the weather is decent.

Also been thinking about my next big road trip to West Virginia and Virginia. This will be later in the year than last one, mostly due to my schedule. But still the Blue Ridge Parkway will be beautiful. Or maybe I’ll instead focus on Western New York and Pennsylvania. I guess it depends on my mood.

Tonight will have showers, with thunderstorms also possible after 1am. Warm and rainy night  with a low of 67 degrees at 6am. Maximum dew point of 66 at 2am. South wind 10 to 13 mph. Chance of precipitation is 100%. New rainfall amounts between a half and three quarters of an inch possible.

Tomorrow will have showers likely, with thunderstorms also possible after 1pm. Mostly cloudy, with a high of 79 degrees at 2pm. Maximum dew point of 67 at 9am. Southwest wind around 6 mph. Chance of precipitation is 60%. New rainfall amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms.

The sun will rise at 6:47 am with the first light at 6:19 am, which is 1 minutes and 6 seconds later then yesterday.

Looking ahead, First Day with Average High Below 70 is in 1 week, October 1st is in 2 weeks, Make a Difference Day is in 5 weeks and New Years Eve is in 15 weeks.
