September 22, 2016 Night

Good evening! Partly clear and 70 degrees in North Syracuse. Calm wind. The dew point is 61 degrees. Very mild for the first day of autumn today, with some very nice weather all day. Kind of a crazy day, with a lot going on, but I did enjoy listening to the Moody Blue’s Nights of White SatanΒ on the way back home. But I made it through the day, and it wasn’t really all that awful.

It was one of those days, although I did head over to Davis Road in North Syracuse, and follow the herd path back from Davis Road into the woods by the Peat Bog at Hamlin Marsh WMA. The trail wasn’t really exciting and was quite over grown, but it’s a was still a nice respite from the busy city. If I do go hiking back there again, especially once archery and duck seasons opens up, I got to wear a bunch more blaze orange, so I don’t get shot. Didn’t see any hunters out today, but give a week or two with more opening up, and I’m sure I’ll seeing it. While I’m not going to comment on contemporary events, I can say sometimes people see something in the woods that isn’t really there. Humans minds sometimes fill in details that aren’t really there. Wearing blaze orange, especially during deer season, can and will save your life. I wear it liberally.

Tonight will be mostly cloudy, with a low of 64 degrees at 5am. 15 degrees above normal. Maximum dew point of 61 at 9pm. South wind 3 to 5 mph. The record low of 32 occurred back in 1963. The Last Quarter Moon is tonight at 9:56 am. The moon will rise around 11:43 pm. The Full β€œHarvest” Moon is on Sunday, October 16th at 4:23 am.

Tomorrow will be scattered showers, mainly after 3pm. Mostly cloudy, with a high of 69 degrees at 12pm.Β Much cooler then today, but typical for this time of year. With the front coming through and the chance of rain, a bit more humid. Maximum dew point of 60 at 6am. Northwest wind 6 to 9 mph. Chance of precipitation is 30%. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch possible. The record high of 97 was set in 1895. The sun will rise at 6:53 am with the first light at 6:24 am, which is 1 minutes and 7 seconds later then yesterday.

The weekend looks really nice.Β I hope to get down to Green Lakes State Park and Jones HIll / Labrador Hollow Unique Area this weekend.Β The colors are only starting, but the weather will be clear and crisp, and will start to encourage more changing of the leaves. Should be great weather for hiking, although it will definitely be long sleeve weather by the weekend. Temperatures in the city only in the low 60s — the hills around will be in the 50s. Β But so be it, we expect cooler

Looking ahead, Last Recorded Day Above in 90 in Albany is in 2 weeks, First Day with Average High Below 60 is in 4 weeks, Make a Difference Day is in 1 month and Thanksgiving is in 9 weeks.

Good night.
