November 5, 2016 Morning

Good morning! Happy First Saturday of November. Last day of Daylight Savings Time in 2016. Which is good thing, as with the cloudy skies and the 7:47 AM sunrise, it was a pretty late this morning. Still pretty cloudy this morning with a few breaks in the clouds and temperatures around 48 degrees in Cicero, NY. There is a west-southwest breeze at 9 mph. The skies will clear tomorrow around noontime.

The mercury will creep up a bit to around 53 degrees at 3pm under mostly cloudy skies. One degrees above normal. Maximum dew point of 45 at 1pm. West wind 9 to 11 mph. Last year was much warmer, with partly cloudy skies with a high around 72. The record high of 75 was set in 1994. There was 3.0 inches of snow back in 1894. A few years before my time.

The sun will set at 5:50 pm with dusk around 6:19 pm, which is 1 minutes and 12 seconds earlier than yesterday. Enjoy the late sunset, tomorrow Today will have 10 hours and 3 minutes of daylight, a decrease of 2 minutes and 30 seconds over yesterday.

Tonight will be mostly cloudy with a low of 42 degrees at 5am. Seven degrees above normal. West wind around 7 mph. One year ago, mostly cloudy with a low around 56. The record low of 15 occurred back in 1951.

We are now 2 weeks out until Regular Season Opens in Southern Zone when the sun will be setting at 4:36 pm with dusk at 5:07 pm (Standard Time). The average high temperature is 47 degrees, with a record high of 71 in 1921.

There are 2 days, 12 hours and 59 minutes until the polls close in NY State on Election Day. It’s coming up quickly. Election Day, at least in Central New York should be quite nice, with a high of 59 degrees under mostly sunny skies.

November 4, 2016 evening

Good evening! Partly clear and 35 degrees in North Syracuse. There is a west breeze at 6 mph. A week from now, assuming all works out well, I’ll be out in the wilderness camping.

More clouds push in this evening with near constant temperatures. Five degrees above normal. Southwest wind around 7 mph. One year ago, we had a partly cloudy evening  with a low around 46. The record low of 17 occurred back in 1951.

Waxing Crescent Moon tonight with 34% illuminated. The moon will set around 12:01 am. The First Quarter Moon is on Sunday night with mostly clear skies expected. The Full β€œBeaver” Moon is a week from Sunday night.

Tomorrow will have a slight chance of showers before 11am. Otherwise, pretty cloudy with a high of 52 degrees at 2pm. One degree above normal. Seems cool but we are pushing the second week of November. Maximum dew point of 44 at 2pm. West wind 8 to 10 mph. Chance of precipitation is 20%. Last year, partly cloudy with a high around 72. The record high of 75 was set in 1994. There was 3 inches of snow back in 1894. The sun will rise at 7:44 am with the first light at 7:15 am, which is 1 minutes and 17 seconds later then yesterday.

Looking ahead, Veterans Day is in 1 week and Buy Nothing Day / Black Friday is in 3 weeks. The later is when I think I’ll replace my dead laptop.

There are 3 days and 19 minutes until the polls close in NY State on Election Day. I’m glad it will come to an conclusion but I do think there should be a more honest discussion of the size and role of the government in our lives.

One thing you never hear from the presidential candidates, is how they plan to shrink government. We have too many laws and a government that is too complex for anyone’s good. We need a government that does a few things well and a lot less things. Our next president should make repealing, not creating laws his top priority. While Jill Stein hasn’t made repealing laws a top priority, I think she will bring Americans together and listen to all our concerns.
