Good evening! Snow flurries and 22 degrees in Delmar, NY. โ„ Breezy, ๏ธ18 mph breeze from the west-northwest 🌬 with gusts up to 32 mph 💨💨💨. The current wind chill is 9. I know it gets colder most winters and this is probably not the coldest of the winter but it’s still kind of cold out tonight. Tomorrow will only be in the upper 20s. The sun thought will help. But then things will start to thaw out at Friday around 10 am, with the mercury expected to reach the 60s by Saturday or maybe even the mid 60s by Sunday. 🌡๏ธ

Tonight will have a slight chance of snow showers before 11pm. Partly cloudy 🌃, with a low of 13 degrees at 5am. Two degrees below normal. But that ignores the wind that is howling around. Maximum wind chill around 2 at 6am; Northwest wind 11 to 18 mph, with gusts as high as 32 mph. Chance of precipitation is 20%. In 2019, we had mist in the evening, which became light rain by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 32 degrees. The record low of -20 occurred back in 1968.

I didn’t miss not having to do anything with the state of state this year. 🎤 That said the endless hours listening to this interview I was taking notes on 📝 for several hours was quite tiresome. The report I was writing for work is going slowly as it keeps getting more complicated and the NYC subject matters are a bit out of my wheel house 🎡. But at least I got to go home at five. I’ll catch up on the important stuff from the governors speech 💬 from the news headlines.

It was cold enough waiting for the express bus 🚍 home with the wind. 🍃 My neighbor was out so I stayed home and rode the exercise bike while watching another video about skinning and gutting rabbits 🐰🔪 (I must have downloaded several before). While the process is the same, some people have different techniques. Then I watched a video about off grid living in Alaska (very cold this time of year) โ›„ and a phone battery manufacturing plant in China. 🏭 Those high tech factories are incredibly automated and fast in China. I only rode for about 45 minutes to 8:45 but I could have ridden later as my neighbor was still out. 🚲

I also worked on a program to extract captions from YouTube into a text file 📄 for easy reading. Sometimes I like to skim the captions file before I watch a long video to see if it’s worth watching. I also started to prepare and type up the index 📇 to John Wolcott history file. 📂 There is a lot more to do on that. Also worked on developing more content for the blog and read for a bit. 📙 Had a quick dinner of macaroni and cheese although once I stated cooking it I wish I had made fish 🐠 as that’s what I was more hungry for.

Tonight will have a Waxing Gibbous 🌖 Moon with 96% illuminated. At dusk you’ll see the moon in the east (81ยฐ) at an altitude of 25ยฐ from the horizon, some 238,886 miles away from where you are looking up from the earth. 🚀 The Wolf 🐺 Moon is on Friday, January 10. The darkest hour is at 12:03 am, followed by dawn at 6:54 am, and sun starting to rise at 7:26 am in the east-southeast (120ยฐ) and last for 3 minutes and 22 seconds. Starting to put push a bit further north. Sunrise is 11 seconds earlier than yesterday. 🌄 The golden hour ends at 8:11 am with sun in the southeast (128ยฐ) at an altitude of 6ยฐ. Tonight will have 14 hours and 45 minutes of darkness, a decrease of one minute and 13 seconds over last night.

Tomorrow will be sunny 🌞, with a high of 28 degrees at 2pm. Two degrees below normal. Northwest wind 5 to 8 mph becoming light and variable in the afternoon. Without the wind and with the bright 🔆 sun it shouldnt be too cold. A year ago, we had cloudy skies. The high last year was 40 degrees. The record high of 62 was set in 2008. 9.9 inches of snow fell back in 1953.โ„

In four weeks on February 5 the sun will be setting in the west-southwest (249ยฐ) at 5:13 pm,🌄 which is 34 minutes and 29 seconds later then tonight. In 2019 on that day, we had partly cloudy skies, mild weather with a few rain showers and temperatures between 57 and 32 degrees. Typically, you have temperatures between 32 and 15 degrees. The record high of 59 degrees was set back in 1890.

Getting to bed at quarter to ten 🔟 because I’m tired 💤 and I plan to get up at six thirty again tomorrow 😮so things aren’t so rushed getting to work. I really like having extra time to get going in the morning and because I’m getting out at five every day now there is no excuse for staying up late.

Looking ahead, National Bird Day 🐦 is in 1 weeks, 37th Birthday 🎉 is in 3 weeks, Average High is 40 โ˜€๏ธ is in 8 weeks, Daylight Savings Time 🌆 is in 2 months, April Fools Day 🤡 is in 12 weeks, Pink Moon 🌕 is in 3 months, Tax Day 💰 is in 14 weeks, Earth Day 🌎 is in 15 weeks, Latest Sunset 🌆 is in 24 weeks and Inauguration Day 2021 👴🏻 is in 54 weeks.

December 22, 2019 10 PM Update

Good evening! Mostly clear and 25 degrees in Delmar, NY. Calm wind. There are 3 inches of snow on the ground. โ˜ƒ ๏ธThings will start to thaw out at tomorrow around 8 am. 🌡๏ธ

The weekend came and went quickly but at least I got done the major things on my list 📃 and got out and did some skiing 🎿. I was happy that I have the voltage switch wired up and that’s working well. I did reduce the upper turn on voltage to 13.7 volts to ensure that it does dump some power into the starting battery 🔋 even on fairly cloudy days. โ˜ Hopefully now I won’t go out and see after the truck has been parked for a week that the starting voltage has dropped to 12.4 or 12.3 volts. If I’m producing more power than I can use, might as well dump it in the starting battery for easier cold weather starts and to prolong the battery life. I’ve not had any problems with starting the truck but when I see the voltage sag on the starting battery I always get concerned.

Tonight will be mostly clear 🌃, with a low of 23 degrees at 10pm. Four degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical night around December 12th. Maximum wind chill around 21 at 10pm; Light south wind. In 2018, we had light snow in the evening, which became mostly clear by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 31 degrees. The record low of -12 occurred back in 1955.

It’s weird but on a mild night 🌃 like tonight it just feels so much warmer inside. โ™จDoes it actually read all that much warmer on the thermometer? Not really but it’s just less drafty and cold feeling. I can be comfortable with a lot less clothes on. 👚 Its amazing how much warmer it feels inside when it gets to 35 degrees outside with the south facing roof compared to a 25 degree day with lots of clouds.

Tonight will have a Waning Crescent Moon 🌘 with 4% illuminated. The moon will rise at 4:28 am. The New Moon is on Wednesday night with mostly cloudy skies. The is on Wednesday night. The sun will rise at 7:22 am with the first light at 6:50 am, which is 30 seconds later than yesterday. 🌄 Tonight will have 14 hours and 57 minutes of darkness, a decrease of 2 seconds over last night.

Tomorrow will be sunny 🌞, with a high of 48 degrees at 2pm. 15 degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical day around November 16th. I’ll take mid November weather a few days before Christmas. Light south wind increasing to 6 to 11 mph in the morning. Nice for a change, it should mean the boiler stays off tomorrow. A year ago, we had cloudy skies in the morning, which became light snow by afternoon. The high last year was 35 degrees. The record high of 64 was set in 1990. 8.8 inches of snow fell back in 1947.โ„

I’ve installed on both my phone and my laptop red light filters for night time use, 😴 in hopes that it will improve my sleep. While the hope is that less blue light will make for easier sleeping, I noticed that with the rest of my bedroom lights a dim red the monitor is awful bright 🔆 when I watch YouTube at night especially when I ride the bike 🚲.

I ordered more contacts online 👀 but I think my prescription is expired so it will be canceled as it looks like they actually check โ˜‘ the prescriptions more carefully now. But I’m okay with that as I found another large box 🎁 of contacts in my truck and my insurance now covers yearly contact lens exams. It used to be that contact wearers had to pay for every other exam – or order online. That said, I really hate my current eye doctor 😷 but the other places I’ve been too haven’t been much better. I feel like most doctors offices are scams although I do have to say that doxycycline I got for Lyme seemed to mostly make those problems go away. If my prescription is denied, I’ll have to make an appointment but not right away as I actually have a supply for a while. 👓 And ultimately if I run out of contacts there always is the option of getting used to wearing glasses again.

In four weeks on January 19 the sun will be setting at 4:51 pm,🌄 which is 26 minutes and 6 seconds later then tonight. In 2019 on that day, we had snow and temperatures between 31 and 7 degrees. Typically, you have temperatures between 30 and 14 degrees. The record high of 62 degrees was set back in 1929.

Ice on the Vloman Kill

November 12, 2019 Morning

Good morning! Happy Tuesday. Four weeks to 7:15 AM Sunrise โŒ›๏ธ. Snow showers and 30 degrees in Delmar, NY. โ„ There is a west-northwest breeze at 5 mph. ๐Ÿƒ with gusts up to 21 mph, especially in the city. ๐Ÿ’จ๐Ÿ’จ๐Ÿ’จ. There is a dusting of snow on the ground. โ˜ƒ We have a cold period ahead with temperatures dropping throughout the day. Things will start to thaw out at Thursday around 10 am. ๐ŸŒก๏ธ

I thought about taking the local in ๐Ÿš but with my new job, the express is more convenient and it’s a much easier commute. But if the bus is late the express doesn’t offer any alternatives besides turning around and walking ๐Ÿšถ another mile to the local. But the express was close to on time โŒš although a minute late stuck behind a sander truck ๐Ÿšš. Sidewalks locally weren’t icy, maybe the driveway had a skim of icy but neither was slick. I hate walking to work on icy sidewalks. Ramp to the plaza is a bit icy but I’m not driving. Maybe things will freeze up later on, I’ll have to be careful when I go out for my lunch time walk.

Today will have snow showers โ„, mainly before noon. Cloudy through mid morning, then gradual clearing ๐ŸŒจ, with a high of 31 degrees at 8am. Temperatures will be dropping into the upper twenties as the day progresses. 18 degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical early January day. Northwest wind 11 to 17 mph, with gusts as high as 32 mph. Chance of precipitation is 70%. Total daytime snow accumulation of less than one inch possible. A year ago, we had mostly sunny skies in the morning, remaining cloudy in the afternoon. The high last year was 47 degrees. The record high of 68 was set in 1909. 7.3 inches of snow fell back in 1968.โ„

So winter is back and it’s cold โ„. But what do I know in my windowless office when I get there. Going to warm up on Friday and that should melt the snow off my truck by Sunday. With the cold, the solar will be good at make sure the batteries remain topped off and ready to go. I should call DeNooyer today about getting the state inspection done. ๐Ÿš— I am still debating about getting the oil changed and tires rotated. I probably should do it to even out the wear out on the tires, and while it’s a bit premature to do the oil change, if it’s done, I won’t have to do it again until May or June, based on the miles I drive int he winter.

The sun will set at 4:36 pm with dusk around 5:06 pm, which is one minute and one second earlier than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ‡ At sunset, look for mostly clear skies ๐ŸŒ„ and temperatures around 28 degrees. The wind chill around sunset will be 15. โ˜ƒ๏ธ Breezy, 17 mph breeze โ›… from the west-northwest with gusts up to 32mph. Today will have 9 hours and 53 minutes of daytime, an increase of 2 minutes and 16 seconds over yesterday.

Tonight will have isolated snow showers between 9pm and midnight. Mostly clear ๐ŸŒƒ, with a low of 12 degrees at 6am. 20 degrees below normal. Maximum wind chill around 3 at 2am; Northwest wind 11 to 16 mph, with gusts as high as 30 mph. Chance of precipitation is 20%. In 2018, we had cloudy skies in the evening, which became light rain by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 32 degrees. The record low of 13 occurred back in 1981.

Cool this weekend with temperatures running 13 degrees below normal but otherwise sunny. ๐Ÿ˜€ Saturday, sunny, with a high near 32. Sunday, mostly sunny, with a high near 39. Typical average high for the weekend is 48 degrees. I don’t think it’s going to be that nice of a weekend, but I’m hopeful it won’t be too cold and sun will help a lot. Much depends on how windy it is. At least I should be able to do some walks around town. Staying home — except for taking the bus to the Green Energy Fair ๐ŸŒฒ should save money, which is good, because things are kind of tight. The sun should help limit the heating bills a bit. And maybe nicer weather for next week?

Looking ahead, there are 4 weeks until 7:15 AM Sunrise โŒ›๏ธ when the sun will be setting at 4:21 pm with dusk at 4:53 pm. Pretty close to the shortest days of the year. That’s actually the latest sunset, although we continue to loose light in the morning through early January. On that day in 2018, we had partly sunny, mist and temperatures between 36 and 18 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 38 degrees. We hit a record high of 64 back in 1966.

Winding Creek

November 8, 2019 8 AM Update

Good morning! Yeah, it’s Friday! Three weeks to Buy Nothing Day ๐Ÿ›๏ธ. Mostly sunny and 25 degrees at the Elm Ave Park & Ride – CDTA. There is a northwest breeze at 8 mph. ๐Ÿƒ. Things will start to thaw out at around 10 am. ๐ŸŒก๏ธ

Walked down to the Park and Ride ๐Ÿš, it’s a nice day but it certainly feels more like a winter day then early November. The high in Delmar is going to only be in the mid 30s which is more common in December or January than November. The mountains and hills aren’t expected to break the freezing mark although the sun and the breeze should melt away most of the snow. โ„ Bus driver gave me a ride part of the way down to the Park and Ride which is nice on this cold morning although I still enjoy my walk. ๐Ÿšถ Windy though downtown. ๐ŸŒฌ

So the heat is on in my apartment โ™จ which definitely felt good this morning. Warm enough that the gas heat kept up easily and it was comfortable getting up in the morning – doesn’t take much heat to keep me warm. I was kind of hoping I could wait until November 13th after the meter was read toย  turn on the heat, but no luck there.ย ๐Ÿ’ธ Cash flow isn’t great right now, after vacation and my truck repair in October but so be it. The shower ๐Ÿšฟ isn’t leaking which is good too after today’s bath ๐Ÿ›€. Feel clean and ready for a good day at work, that bright ๐Ÿ”† sun is nice although once I’m in my basement office I won’t have much natural light to enjoy.

Today will be mostly sunny ๐ŸŒž, with a high of 36 degrees at 1pm. 15 degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical day around December 14th. Northwest wind 8 to 14 mph. A year ago, we had cloudy skies in the morning with a few breaks of sun the afternoon. The high last year was 49 degrees. The record high of 75 was set in 1975. 1.7 inches of snow fell back in 1894.โ„

The sun will set at 4:40 pm with dusk around 5:10 pm, which is one minute and 8 seconds earlier than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ‡ At sunset, look for partly clear skies ๐ŸŒ„ and temperatures around 34 degrees. There will be a northwest breeze at 11 mph. Today will have 10 hours and 2 minutes of daytime, an increase of 2 minutes and 24 seconds over yesterday.

Tonight will be mostly clear ๐ŸŒƒ, with a low of 20 degrees at 4am. 13 degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical night around December 18th. Maximum wind chill around 22 at 3am; Northwest wind 5 to 8 mph becoming calm after midnight. In 2018, we had cloudy skies. It got down to 28 degrees. The record low of 11 occurred back in 1971.

Tomorrow will be mostly sunny ๐ŸŒž, with a high of 39 degrees at 2pm. 12 degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical day around December 6th. South wind 3 to 7 mph. A year ago, we had cloudy skies in the morning with a few breaks of sun the afternoon. The high last year was 42 degrees. The record high of 71 was set in 1975. Ten inches of snow fell back in 1900.โ„

Looking ahead to Sunday, a slight chance of snow before 10am, then a slight chance of rain between 10am and 1pm. Mostly cloudy, โ˜ with a high near 45. South wind 5 to 7 mph. Chance of precipitation is 20%. Typical average high for the weekend is 51 degrees.

Giving it some thought I think I’ll probably head out to Brookfield this weekend โ›บ, and then Sunday drive out to Cazenovia. I was going to camp at Stoney Pond – and I might still if the weather is decent but I’m a bit concerned about the possibility of Lake Effect snow โ„ leaving a few inches of snow unexpectedly and it’s an uphill drive out of there and I don’t want to risk it. It looks fairly white out there from the Hamilton and Cazenovia Webcams I’ve checked, although the snow fall reports are quite modest — and it’s expected to be in the mid-30s by afternoon.

Upper I Brown Road is plowed daily for fire department purposes in Brookfield and while it’s modestly steep its down hill and it should be warm enough that it won’t be icy. I really would prefer to camp at Stoney Pond – maybe I’ll play it by ear, camp there Saturday and Sunday do Brookfield which is sort of on the way back home ๐Ÿก. I have fond memories of my time in Nelson and I want to hunt out that way, visit Nelson Swamp and Chittenango State Park. I’ll see how much snow is around heading along the Cherry Valley ๐Ÿ’ bypass.

Not sure if I’m going to John Wolcott house tonight. ๐Ÿ” I am kind of tired and I want to get packed for my weekend adventure. ๐Ÿ“‚ Honestly, this project is kind of getting rapped up, and I want to put a close on it sooner then later. He says he has more boxes, but I think there are others who could help him out. We’ve done six boxes over the year. ๐Ÿ—ƒ

Next week is my first paycheck at my new job. Itย will be a little larger then the my previous one, because I’m only doing 15% for retirement versus 20% due to the 401k limit being lower then deferred comp. But I’ll put the remaining money away into more mid-term investments like when I want to buy land and a home. ๐Ÿ’ฐ I was reading that 15% should be enough to save for retirement, but I’d rather save more,ย  just because I hate paying so much in New York State taxes. I literally pay more each month in taxes then I do on rent. Granted, I don’t have the nicest apartment in all of New York.

As previously noted, there are 3 weeks until Buy Nothing Day ๐Ÿ›๏ธ when the sun will be setting at 4:23 pm with dusk at 4:55 pm. On that day in 2018, we had partly sunny and temperatures between 56 and 28 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 42 degrees. We hit a record high of 66 back in 2005.

 Finger Lakes Sunset

July 29, 2019 Morning

Good morning! Vacation has come around Monday’s come back around again. Wednesday morning I get my teeth cleaned. Next Monday is Work Like a Dog Day ๐Ÿฉ. Although because I’ve been gone for a week I wouldn’t be surprised if this week will be a work like a dog day. ๐Ÿถ Partly sunny โ˜€ and 72 degrees at the Valero. Calm wind. The dew point is 67 degrees. We have a big stretch of hot and humid weather coming up this week. The muggy weather ends Thursday around 11 am. ๐Ÿ˜“

So it’s back to work today, ๐Ÿ’ผ which is good because work buys beer, guns, ammunition and all things fun including eventually owning my own where I can have fires ๐Ÿ”ฅ ride four wheelers, shoot guns ๐Ÿ”ซ and drink beer every night. ๐Ÿป They sure like their fires in Western Pennsylvania redneck country. It’s a good life. I do wish I spent more time in Allegany County NY and Pennsylvania on vacation. Oil country has a distinctive smell from the crude oil to the cow manure and silage to good old fashioned smoldering trash burn barrels.

Today will have isolated showers and thunderstorms after 1pm as it’s going to be hot and humid. โšก Otherwise sunny ๐ŸŒž, with a high of 89 degrees at 4pm. Seven degrees above normal. Maximum dew point of 70 at 11am. Southwest wind 3 to 6 mph. Chance of precipitation is 20%. A year ago, we had partly cloudy skies in the morning with some clearing in the afternoon. The high last year was 81 degrees. The record high of 97 was set in 1894.

This evening it’s back to the routine – of working on the Save the Pine Bush project ๐ŸŒฒand then Thursday night its over to John Wolcott house. ๐Ÿ“ฐ๐Ÿ“‘๐Ÿ”Ž. I also have to go shopping for supplies, especially toilet paper ๐Ÿšฝ and maybe some food. I might also have to replace my headphones ๐ŸŽงwhich are finally starting to fall apart after like eight months of heavy use. I’m tough on shit like that.

The sun will set at 8:18 pm with dusk around 8:50 pm, which is one minute and 5 seconds earlier than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ‡ At sunset, watch out for thunderstorms ๐ŸŒฉ and temperatures around 80 degrees. The dew point will be 69 degrees. There will be a southwest breeze at 5 mph. Today will have 14 hours and 33 minutes of daytime, an increase of 2 minutes and 6 seconds over yesterday.

Tonight will have isolated showers and thunderstorms before 9pm. Partly cloudy ๐ŸŒค, with a low of 70 degrees at 3am. Eight degrees above normal. Maximum dew point of 69 at 8pm. South wind 3 to 5 mph. Chance of precipitation is 20%. In 2018, we had mostly clear skies. It got down to 60 degrees. The record low of 44 occurred back in 1968.

A picture perfect weekend on tap. ๐Ÿ˜Ž Saturday, mostly sunny, with a high near 84. Maximum dew point of 66 at 4pm. Sunday, mostly sunny, with a high near 85. Maximum dew point of 64 at 11am. Typical average high for the weekend is 82 degrees.

I am leaning towards going up to the Potholers and Piseco Powley Road this weekend. โ›บ Suprisingly enough I haven’t been up there yet this year. It looks like it will be a hot and sunny summer weekend and there is no guarantee that there are an unlimited amount of them left before autumn rolls around. I mean in a month, the sun will be setting at around 7:30 and the average high will be in the upper 70s.

As previously noted, next Monday is Work Like a Dog Day ๐Ÿฉ when the sun will be setting at 8:10 pm with dusk at 8:41 pm. On that day in 2018, we had hot, humid, sunny, patches of fog and temperatures between 90 and 63 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 82 degrees. We hit a record high of 99 back in 1955.

Buck Mountain

July 13, 2019 Morning

Good morning! Happy Hottest Time of the Year ๐Ÿ˜…! For the next two weeks the average high is thirty, then it will drop back to 82 and slowly and surely decline until six months from now in January when the average high is 30. Next Saturday is Ugly Truck Day ๐Ÿšš. I bet that is a holiday they celebrate in the upper Midwest.

This morning is a nice one. Partly sunny and 69 degrees in Delmar, NY. There is a west-northwest breeze at 6 mph. ๐Ÿƒ. The dew point is 60 degrees.

I didn’t get a very early start today, as I was pretty tired after a long and busy week at work๐Ÿ˜ด and with things going on every day after work except Monday.

After I go to Walmart, return beer cans and buy groceries ๐Ÿป I’m going to gas up my truck โ›ฝand then head out to Schoharie County to swim ๐ŸŠ and hike at Mine Kill and spend an one-night at Burnt Rossman camping. โ›บ

Today will be sunny ๐ŸŒž, with a high of 85 degrees at 3pm. Two degrees above normal. Maximum dew point of 64 at 6pm. Southwest wind around 6 mph. A year ago, we had mostly sunny skies. The high last year was 88 degrees. The record high of 96 was set in 1894.

The sun will set at 8:32 pm with dusk around 9:06 pm, which is 34 seconds earlier than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ‡ At sunset, look for mostly clear skies ๐ŸŒ„ and temperatures around 79 degrees. The dew point will be 65 degrees. There will be a west-southwest breeze at 5 mph. Today will have 15 hours and 2 minutes of daytime, an increase of one minute and 22 seconds over yesterday.

Tonight will have a slight chance of showers and thunderstorms between 1am and 3am, then a slight chance of showers after 3am. Partly cloudy ๐ŸŒค, with a low of 65 degrees at 4am. Three degrees above normal. Maximum dew point of 65 at 7pm. Southwest wind 3 to 5 mph. Chance of precipitation is 20%. In 2018, we had partly cloudy skies. It became somewhat humid as the night progressed. It got down to 72 degrees. The record low of 49 occurred back in 1940.

Last night, I spent quite a bit of time going over tax maps and records building another map for Save the Pine Bush. ๐ŸŒThis is going to be a long ongoing project, I want to invest several nights this week down at the library working on it.๐Ÿ“š

Last night I also spent some time working on fixing the EEPROM storage on my display in my bedroom, discovering that it wasn’t working right due to an implicit cast of a float into an integer in the code.๐Ÿ“Ÿ It was not an easy thing to debug.

Then I ended up laying back in bed, watching some videos on the various off-grid and farm channels I enjoy watching. ๐Ÿ“น I watched a very interesting video about a cow ๐Ÿฎ being treated with milk fever, which dairy cattle in particular can get when they calve and they send too much calcium to their milk for their calves to sustain their own bodies.

On this day in 1977, the Great 1977 New York City Blackout begins, plunging New York into 24 hours of darkness, chaos, and crime. ๐ŸŒ† It really was a dark time in the city. Much different than the 1965 black out. New York’s power problems didn’t extend to Upstate. The grid is so closely connected and a minor problem can cascade into a bigger problem.

As previously noted, next Saturday is Ugly Truck Day ๐Ÿšš when the sun will be setting at 8:27 pm with dusk at 9:00 pm. On that day in 2018, we had hot, sunny, patches of fog and temperatures between 88 and 57 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 83 degrees. We hit a record high of 97 back in 1991.

Summer evening

May 14, 2019 Morning

Good morning! Happy Tuesday. Six weeks to Primary Day ๐Ÿ—ณ๏ธ. With the state’s paid time off to vote law, I’ll have an excuse to get to a work late after voting at the library. Here’s a shocker, cloudy, damp and 42 degrees โ˜ in the land of socialist Elsmere. The organic kale socialism type, the kind widely used embraced as long as it doesn’t involve higher taxes on the upper middle class. There is a north-northeast breeze at 5 mph. ๐Ÿƒ. The skies will clear tomorrow around 7 am.

I have to fix up the Save the Pine Bush display ๐ŸŒฒfor the Lupine Festival this weekend. Yeap that’s happening this weekend and it should be a good event. Hopefully we will have lots of volunteers to join me so I won’t be sitting at the table all alone all day. I’m gathering up photos now, I’ll run off materials for the booth later on this week.

Today will rain, mainly after 3pm. ๐ŸŒง High of 49 degrees at 5pm. 20 degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical day around March 27th. Northeast wind 3 to 5 mph. Chance of precipitation is 80%. Almost didn’t bring an umbrella but I knew that to be foolish. ๐Ÿ’ฆ New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch possible. A year ago, we had partly cloudy skies in the morning with some clearing in the afternoon. The high last year was 77 degrees. The record high of 93 was set in 1900.

The sun will set at 8:10 pm with dusk around 8:42 pm, which is one minute and 3 seconds later than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ‡ At sunset, look for rain showers ๐ŸŒง and temperatures around 47 degrees. There will be a north-northwest breeze at 5 mph. Today will have 14 hours and 36 minutes of daytime, an increase of 2 minutes and 6 seconds over yesterday.

Tonight will have showers likely, mainly before 8pm. Cloudy ๐ŸŒง, with a low of 42 degrees at 6am. Five degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical night around April 30th. Northwest wind around 6 mph. Chance of precipitation is 60%. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch possible. In 2018, we had mostly clear skies. It became sticky as the night progressed. It got down to 56 degrees. The record low of 31 occurred back in 1977.

Looking forward to Memorial Day Weekend ๐Ÿ˜Ž especially if it looks like it will be warm and sunny. We might break out of the current pattern by then but who knows. A some point summer will be here. I was thinking that the Gas Up antique tractor festival ๐Ÿšœ in Gallupville is only about a month away at this point. Might be fun to do that and then hammock camp โ›บ in the wilderness.

One month ๐Ÿ“… from now will be Flag Day ๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ when the sun will be setting at 8:34 pm with dusk at 9:09 pm. I’ll have to get my big flag out. Hopefully the sun will shine by then.
