Good evening! Snow and 22 degrees in Delmar, NY. โ„ There is a south breeze at 10 mph. 🍃. The current wind chill is 11. At times there are some good gusts of wind. There is a four inches of snow on the ground. โ˜ƒ Things will start to thaw out at tomorrow around 8 am. 🌡๏ธ Already warmed up enough that it’s very comfortable in my bedroom and the heat ain’t running non stop.

Decent little snow storm tonight โ›„, many years we’d call it a nuisance snow but this year has been so snow free except for that first big one in December its not been a very snowy winter. For a few weeks before Christmas we had some snow on the ground but recently in the city it’s been gone and based on the latest forecast it seems like it may very well be gone by the end of the week. Snow started around 2 pm here but didn’t make the roads noticeably bad until after 4 pm when I walked home from the library and had dinner.

I am definitely starting to get a cold or a bit of head congestion. 👃 I could feel it especially out walking 🚶 today at Kheler Preserve. I was going to just do Bennett Hill but I decided I hadn’t been on a walk on Wolf Hill in a while and it cleared out for a while so I wasn’t super concerned about having to drive the letter S or Cass Hill in the snow. It was definitely cold out hiking but manageable with gloves, jacket and a hoodie.

Breakfast with the parents at the local cafe was good but once again after eating there I had modestly bad diarrhea. 🍳 I don’t know if it’s from all the coffee โ˜• I drank, the eggs or an ingredient in them but it always happens after going there. It’s kind of a hole in the wall place and the food is decent but it doesn’t do my stomach thing at all. And it’s not been a one time thing. My parents eat there all the time. I’d hate to blame the business but it doesn’t go well with my stomach. 👾 Fortunately I have zero regrets about taking a poop in the woods and wiping my ass with snow and leaves. 💩 Not sure if I’m going to go back to the dinner again though because I keep getting sick and it’s always awkward sitting there with your elderly parents while you wait for food to come out. Somehow Sunday dinner is different, out at their house your not sitting across from them waiting as they’re cooking or doing other tasks around the house 🏡.

Adjusted the exercise bike 🚲 to make the seats and handle bars higher so hopefully it will be easier on my knees. I was surprised that the bolts 🔩 are all metric, it’s my grandmother’s old exercise bike. Rode the bike for a bit watching some YouTube I downloaded. Burned off some of the calories from that game bih

I got the $10 bill in the mail from Nielsen Survey. โœ‰ Cool, real cash sent in the mail. I’ll stick it in my wallet. Now they’re trying to get me to do their week long TV 📺 survey and send back for another ten bucks. This one is paper in a business return envelope. I think I’ll do it, not hard as I don’t own a television or have internet at home. I can let them know that I watched a YouTube video I download 🐮 about milk quality testing and a science video about arsenic, oh and some true trash watching from Demolition Ranch shooting guns and Westin Champlain rebuilding a truck. Probably some of NB88 off grid cabin or Ohio Prepper before the week is up. Actually I’m not sure if I’m going to have to report that stuff I think it’s more cable television. Ten bucks, sure why not.

That said, I am trying to do more reading at home 📖, as I know it’s so much better for you and ones imagination then watching YouTube videos. Sure you can learn a lot from real people on the YouTube – I’ve learned a lot about trapping, hunting, butchering and off grid living even if not all of it is legal in New York. No snares in New York, only foothold or body gripping traps for example. 🔫 Reading is definitely something that I enjoy at camp by the fire or in the tent but admittedly I do less at home. Might do a lot more though at the park come spring time, especially when I get home each night at the 5:40 leaving a lot more evenings free to enjoy with a book at the park โ›ฒ – or I could even read just out back. I found five good books 📚 at the library that I took out and want to read all of them but it depends on how much time I have.

Tonight will snow, mainly before midnight. Temperature rising to around 31 by 3am. South wind 7 to 11 mph. Chance of precipitation is 90%. Total nighttime snow accumulation of 1 to 2 inches possible. In 2019, we had light snow in the evening, which became mostly clear by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 7 degrees. The record low of -28 occurred back in 1971.

Tomorrow I want to do some cleaning up in the bathroom 🛁 and around the apartment. I also would like to get to the store and buy groceries after the snow stops, drop off paper 📄 for recycling โ™ป and then possibly go skiing 🎿. Plus more reading 📖 and maybe some soldering I’m not sure the evening. Should actually be quite mild tomorrow but cold for Martin Luther King 👑 day. 💜

Tonight will have a Waning Crescent 🌒 Moon with 33% illuminated. The darkest hour is at 12:06 am, followed by dawn at 6:51 am, and sun starting to rise at 7:22 am in the east-southeast (118ยฐ) and last for 3 minutes and 17 seconds. Sunrise is 34 seconds earlier than yesterday. 🌄 The golden hour ends at 8:06 am with sun in the southeast (125ยฐ) at an altitude of 6ยฐ. Tonight will have 14 hours and 30 minutes of darkness, a decrease of one minute and 48 seconds over last night.

Tomorrow will have a slight chance of snow showers before 10am, then a slight chance of rain and snow showers between 10am and 1pm, then a slight chance of snow showers after 1pm. Areas of blowing snow between 8am and noon. Mostly cloudy 🌧, with a high of 36 degrees at 11am. Six degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical day around February 19th. West wind 7 to 12 mph increasing to 13 to 18 mph in the morning. Winds could gust as high as 31 mph. Chance of precipitation is 20%. A year ago, we had light snow. The high last year was 31 degrees. The record high of 62 was set in 1929. 8.5 inches of snow fell back in 1886.โ„

In four weeks on February 15 the sun will be setting in the west-southwest (253ยฐ) at 5:26 pm,🌄 which is 36 minutes and 15 seconds later then tonight. In 2019 on that day, we had partly cloudy, mild, rain showers and temperatures between 50 and 26 degrees. Typically, you have temperatures between 35 and 17 degrees. The record high of 55 degrees was set back in 2006.

Looking ahead, 5 PM Sunset 🌆 is in 1 weeks, February 🌧 is in 2 weeks, National Drink Wine Day 🍷 is a month away, Average High is 50 🌸 is in 10 weeks, Average High is 60 🌼 is in 3 months, Average High is 70 🐮 is in 17 weeks, Flower Moon 🌕 is in 4 months, Memorial Day Weekend Starts 🏕๏ธ is in 18 weeks, Last Day of Session 🏛 is in 22 weeks and Summer ๏ธโ›ฑ๏ธ is in 22 weeks.

Blue Snow Skies

January 12, 2020 Morning

Good morning! Happy Sunday. After the rain late last night it has cleared and is quite warm and sunny. Not expected to stay so warm though with the temperatures dropping all day long. Two weeks to 5:30 PM Dusk 🌆. I like coming home and the sun is still up. Partly sunny and 61 degrees in Delmar, NY. 🌞 The dew point is 53 degrees. It’s fun to be thinking about the dew point in January although I should close my windows before I go for my morning walk. 🚶 Temperatures will drop below freezing at around 8 pm. โ˜ƒ๏ธ

Just got done baking the qeiche for breakfast. 🍳 Took a while to cook up but I was up by 6:30 as I no longer am sleeping in on weekends 😴 to try to maximize my time and improve health. I like watching the sun rise each morning I knew it would be a beautiful morning and so it turned out. It was so awesome waking up with the windows open.

Soon I’m going to walk the rail trail 🚈 that is after I take a pee and poop 💩 and change my socks and replace my Don’t Tread on Me: Liberty or Death 🗽 with a long sleeve shirt 👚 as the mercury is likely to drop before I get home. 🏡 Plus I figure wearing a pro-tea party shirt is probably considered a hate crime these days on New York. I’m no fan of Trump 🎺 but I like my guns 🔫, my freedom โœŠ and someday want to live off grid and farm 🚜 probably with a well ventilated burn barrel out back 🔥 .

But I’m voting for Elizabeth Warren in the primary as long as she stays off my land 🐷 and gives me affordable health care so I can retire relatively young, focus on my off grid cabin and hobby farm. Working a real job just for health insurance 😷 in my sixties would ducking suck. I’d rather be chopping wood, hauling manure on my own land and checking a trap line for dogs I can harvest their pelts to pass my time.🐺 Buy real fur, it’s good for the planet 🌏 if you like healthy working forests! Working in the city might pay big bucks but it’s so damn depressing especially in a windowless office. 💻

I just so wish there was more private locations along the rail trail to take a piss. 👨 I totally get it, they were to build outhouses along the rail trail citiods would be shooting heroin 💉in them but I find I often need to take a piss when I’m walking 🚹 and it’s not like when I’m in the woods and can pee on any old tree🌲, that is after I check above to make sure that I’m not pissing under somebody above me in a tree stand. Sounds like I have personal experience but I’m sure anybody who has field dressed a deer knows what male sex organs look like for most antlered animals.

Today will have a chance of showers, mainly before 11am. Mostly sunny, with a temperature falling to around 39 by 5pm. Sinโ˜€ Windy, with a west wind 25 to 30 mph becoming northwest 17 to 22 mph in the afternoon. Winds could gust as high as 48 mph. 🍃 No real wind yet this morning. Chance of precipitation is 40%. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch possible. A year ago, we had cloudy skies in the morning with more sun in the afternoon. The high last year was 26 degrees. The record high of 63 was set in 2018. 12.8 inches of snow fell back in 2011.โ„

It sounds like it’s going to get cold and windy but so far it’s beautiful โ˜€ with no wind or clouds but I’m sure the trails are pretty wet so alas I’m planning on doing the rail trail this morning for a while. Later I might hike somewhere else but I don’t want to be ankle deep in mud. 👢 Rain on January can really guck up the soil substructure. Not only is it tough in your ankles it really ducks 🐦 up the trails. Later on its Sunday dinner at the folks house! 🍲 Big pot of ham stew I hear. 😋

That said, later on I might go up to Partridge Run State Game Management Area later on if it’s quite sunny โ˜€ and not too cold. I always like spending time out in the wilderness country and it’s not going to as crowded as the rail trail.🌲If I walked on old Partridge Run road it’s not likely to be muddy but they probably still have snow and ice up there so I’d want my micro spikes. โ„ Might be too cold though, but I miss spending time out in the woods and in the country.

Solar noon 🌞 is at 12:04 pm with sun having an altitude of 25.7ยฐ from the due south horizon (-45.1ยฐ vs. 6/21). The golden hour 🏅 starts at 3:59 pm with the sun in the southwest (233ยฐ). 📸 The sunset is in the west-southwest (241ยฐ) starting at 4:40 pm and lasts for 3 minutes and 20 seconds with dusk around 5:14 pm, which is one minute and 7 seconds later than yesterday. 🌇 The best time to look at the stars is after 5:50 pm. At sunset, look for partly sunny skies 🌃 and temperatures around 41 degrees. Breezy, 17 mph breeze โ›… from the northwest. Today will have 9 hours and 19 minutes of daytime, an increase of one minute and 27 seconds over yesterday.

Tonight will be partly cloudy 🌤, with a low of 23 degrees at 6am. Nine degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical night around March 8th. Northwest wind 10 to 15 mph becoming light and variable after midnight. In 2019, we had mostly clear skies in the evening, which became mostly clear by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 10 degrees. The record low of -18 occurred back in 1968.

🌹🌻🌼Only 67 days remain until the first day of calendar spring!🌹🌻🌼

But it feels like spring already this morning. 67 bottles of beer on the walls, 67 bottles of beer. And I don’t even drink any more. 🍻 Well except in the wilderness. Spring is coming and so are the black flies and trout fishing. 🎣 Big Red gets so muddy come spring with those dirt roads in Madison and Chenango County. Muddier than the cows in spring with those dirt roads ! 🐮 I love 😍 being out in the real wilderness of deep rural New York.

As previously noted, there are 2 weeks until 5:30 PM Dusk 🌆 when the sun will be setting at 5:00 pm with dusk at 5:30 pm. On that day in 2019, we had partly cloudy and temperatures between 28 and 14 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 31 degrees. We hit a record high of 59 back in 1950.

Noble and Giant Mountain

January 9, 2020 Morning

Good morning! Happy Static Electric Shock Day ๐Ÿงผ! That’s quite shocking, especially in buildings where the HVAC system isn’t doing a good controlling the humidity in the air, or those heated by wood. My parents always keep a tea kettle on their woodstove to control moisture in their house. Two weeks to National Cheese Lovers Day ๐Ÿง€. Without cows, we wouldn’t have cheese. Well, and other lactating animals, but we cows the best because they produce the most milk ๐Ÿ„ and it has most neutral taste. ๐Ÿฅ› Mostly sunny and 15 degrees at the Bethlehem Public Library as I pass it by on the earlier local bus. ๐Ÿš There is a northwest breeze at 8 mph. ๐Ÿƒ. The current wind chill is 4. There is a dusting of snow on the ground. โ˜ƒ Things will start to thaw out at tomorrow around 9 am. ๐ŸŒก๏ธ

Kind of a chilly morning out waiting for the bus. ๐ŸšBut I’m sure it can and will get colder this winter but I’m unadjusted to the cold โ„. Didn’t seem to cold this morning in my apartment but the wind had died down and it’s not that cold. These are the kind of mornings that I love ๐Ÿ˜ to be in the woods next to the heater sipping a hot cup of coffee โ˜•.

I got up early again because I knew I had to leave earlier for the local and needed extra time to get my suit and tie ready. ๐Ÿ‘”Last minute when I was putting my dress shirt on I discovered a stain and had to switch shirts. That’s fine although this shirt didn’t get ironed so the pocket has a wrinkle but you can’t see it under the jacket. So be it. I’ll save the other shirt for wearing with the vest. That said, I really enjoy getting up bright and early, ๐ŸŒ† watching the sun rise as I drink my coffee. โ˜• That is with a little hot coca mix put in it. I’ve heard it’s good to get a constant amount of sleep at regular times, so maybe I’ll continue to getting up at 6:30 AM come the weekend (and retiring to bed before 10 PM). ๐Ÿ›

Today will be sunny ๐ŸŒž, with a high of 29 degrees at 2pm. One degrees below normal. Northwest wind 5 to 8 mph becoming light and variable in the afternoon. A year ago, we had light rain in the morning, remaining cloudy in the afternoon. The high last year was 40 degrees. The record high of 62 was set in 2008. 9.9 inches of snow fell back in 1953.โ„

Solar noon ๐ŸŒž is at 12:03 pm with sun having an altitude of 25.2ยฐ from the due south horizon (-45.6ยฐ vs. 6/21). The golden hour ๐Ÿ… starts at 3:55 pm with the sun in the southwest (232ยฐ). ๐Ÿ“ธ The sunset is in the west-southwest (240ยฐ) starting at 4:37 pm and lasts for 3 minutes and 21 seconds with dusk around 5:11 pm, which is one minute and 3 seconds later than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ‡ The best time to look at the stars is after 5:47 pm. At sunset, look for partly sunny skies ๐ŸŒƒ and temperatures around 27 degrees. There will be a calm wind. Today will have 9 hours and 15 minutes of daytime, an increase of one minute and 16 seconds over yesterday.

Tonight will be mostly cloudy ๐ŸŒฅ, with a low of 21 degrees at 7pm. Seven degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical night around February 29th. Maximum wind chill around 21 at 6pm; South wind 5 to 13 mph. In 2019, we had partly cloudy skies in the evening, which became mostly clear by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 24 degrees. The record low of -13 occurred back in 1968.

Still looking at mild conditions and rain heading into the weekend. โ˜”But maybe not quite reach the sixties but at least the heat will be off. Saturday, rain likely, mainly after 1pm. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 59. South wind 9 to 16 mph, with gusts as high as 26 mph. Chance of precipitation is 70%. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch possible. Sunday, rain likely before 1pm. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 58. Chance of precipitation is 70%. Typical average high for the weekend is 30 degrees.

Going to be a rainy weekend but I don’t mind. ๐Ÿ’ฆ I’m still thinking about heading back out to Madison County for the Martin Luther King weekend if it’s not going to be too cold, wet or snowy. โ›บ Seems like they won’t have much at this point but it could change. I still sure we will have some good snow โ›„ and an artic blast before the end of the winter season.

๐ŸŒน๐ŸŒป๐ŸŒผOnly 70 days remain until the first day of calendar spring!๐ŸŒน๐ŸŒป๐ŸŒผ

I am looking forward to spring now that it’s only seventy days away. Everyday is one day closer. ๐ŸŒท I do believe time will go by quickly but that’s to my advantage because I’m a saver and investor and time gives a chance for growth.

As previously noted, there are 2 weeks until National Cheese Lovers Day ๐Ÿง€ when the sun will be setting at 4:56 pm with dusk at 5:26 pm. On that day in 2019, we had rain showers, partly cloudy and temperatures between 40 and 9 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 31 degrees. We hit a record high of 64 back in 1906.

Towards Mount Greylock

January 3, 2020 Night

Good evening! Cloudy and 38 degrees in Delmar, NY. โ˜ Calm wind. Temperatures will drop below freezing at Sunday around 1 am. โ˜ƒ๏ธ

I got home this evening and was feeling kind of sick again. 😩 Achy and tired. Not sure what’s wrong again and I should have made the doctors appointment today but I was busy and had a headache. Skipped my evening walk 🚶 although I did ride the exercise bike 🚲 for a while. I thought about going to the library but I’ll probably do that tomorrow. If it’s raining I’ll probably drive down to the library and go to the store after that. 🏪 I do need to get milk for my coffee โ˜• tomorrow – I’m totally out of moo juice 🐮 right now.

One good thing was that my contact lenses arrived today. 👀 I was surprised they approved them as I was pretty sure my prescription was expired but I didn’t want to go to the eye doctor. I will go the next time I need contacts to the doctor to ensure my eyes are healthy but a yearly contact lens exam seems a bit excessive when I can see fine and my eyes aren’t irritated – plus the price had come down sufficiently on the contacts I wear that it’s a pretty big savings compared to the eye doctors co-pay and spending time with that pushy miserable business and then going work with dilated pupils unable to see anything in the office. 🏢

Tonight will have a chance of rain, mainly after 3am. Patchy fog before 3am, then patchy fog after 5am. Otherwise, cloudy 🌧, with a low of 37 degrees at 5am. 22 degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical night around April 13th. Light and variable wind. Chance of precipitation is 30%. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch possible. In 2019, we had light snow in the evening, which became mostly clear by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 30 degrees. The record low of -15 occurred back in 1904.

Tonight will have a Waxing Crescent 🌒 Moon with 59% illuminated. At dusk you’ll see the moon in the south-southeast (149ยฐ) at an altitude of 47ยฐ from the horizon, some 250,920 miles away from where you are looking up from the earth. 🚀 Moon is a lot closer to earth 🌎 than last night. Well, at least 1,000 miles closer. The darkest hour is at 12:00 am, followed by dawn at 6:54 am, and sun starting to rise at 7:26 am in the east-southeast (121ยฐ) and last for 3 minutes and 24 seconds. Sunrise is 2 seconds later than yesterday. 🌄 That’s good, finally getting more sun in the morning. The golden hour ends at 8:12 am with sun in the southeast (129ยฐ) at an altitude of 6ยฐ. Tonight will have 14 hours and 51 minutes of darkness, a decrease of 55 seconds over last night.

Tomorrow will rain, mainly after 9am. Patchy fog before 9am. 🌧 High of 39 degrees at 12pm. Eight degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical day around March 1st. Calm wind becoming northwest 5 to 7 mph in the afternoon. Chance of precipitation is 80%. New precipitation amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch possible. A year ago, we had mostly sunny skies in the morning, which became mostly clear by afternoon. The high last year was 43 degrees. The record high of 64 was set in 1950. 8.8 inches of snow fell back in 2003.โ„

Should be a good day for washing my truck and going shopping 🏪 and maybe down to the library. 📚 Sunday definitely will be the best day of the weekend.

At least in the near future it looks like January will be a mild one โ™จwithout much snow. Pattern could change before the end of winter but let’s be honest – once we get into February we can have bitterly cold weather but by the end of month it gets hard for the cold to stick around, especially as the sun angle increases as spring gets nearer.

In four weeks on January 31 the sun will be setting in the west-southwest (247ยฐ) at 5:06 pm,🌄 which is 32 minutes and 46 seconds later then tonight. In 2019 on that day, we had cold, sunny and temperatures between 14 and -3 degrees. Typically, you have temperatures between 32 and 15 degrees. The record high of 58 degrees was set back in 1913.

I’ve so gotten into watching trapping videos online. 🐺 It is really a good way to make a little money 💵 in the woods while supporting healthy eco systems and maintaining a balance of wildlife. I am sure if I had my own land 🚜 and more of a place to clean and store pelts I would do a lot more. Maybe eventually when I own my off grid property.

I am tired 😴 and don’t feel great. 💤I should really get some sleep and be in no rush to get going tomorrow. And maybe going forward plan to get a sleep by ten 🔟.

Looking ahead, Wolf Moon 🌕 is in 1 weeks, Save the Pine Bush Turns 42 🦋 is in 5 weeks, Valentines Day โค๏ธ is in 6 weeks, 7 PM Sunset 🌆 is in 10 weeks, Spring 🌷 is in 11 weeks, Good Friday โœ๏ธ is in 14 weeks, May 🕊 is in 17 weeks, 8:30 PM Sunset ๏ธโ›ฑ๏ธ is in 22 weeks, Election Day 2020 🗳๏ธ is in 10 months.

 Wild Turkey Tracks

January 1, 2020 Morning

Good morning! Happy New Years Day 2020 🎉 ! It’s a new morning in a new decade. Next Wednesday is Bubble Bath Day 🠼򏀮 Partly cloudy, breezy and 29 degrees at the Cole Hill State Forest in Berne. โ„ More clouds then sun but when the blue peaks through its pretty nice with the ice on the trees. Breezy, ๏ธ16 mph breeze from the west 🌬 . The current wind chill is 17. Things will start to thaw out at around noontime. 🌡๏ธ A chilly but kind of pretty morning when I got up briefly to do my business 💩 outside.

So we made it to the new decade. 🎇 I guess that should surprise no one, it’s just another stepping stone 🗻 in the great progression of things. One year closer to all hell breaking loose with climate change. That said, it was kind of neat to spend New Years Eve in the wilderness especially with that very brief winter thunderstorm. I wish it had been a little colder when I set up camp though as things were a bit sloshy 💧for a while until the mercury dropped. Made for the sled sliding well with the gear. Everything is frozen solid this morning though.

Coffee with egg nog โ˜• is good on this first morning, which is a bit chilly but not too bad. Like anything it’s all a matter of how you choose to dress. 👚 Of course half the winter I keep my apartment at fifty degrees to save on the heat so I can’t complain that much about 29 degrees in the wilderness, sitting next to the propane heater. Gotta save money 💵 so I can burn it in my is jacked up truck.

A new decade with new challenges but I’ll embrace them as they come. 🎉 Always keep on learning and saving for a better tomorrow. I think by 2030 I’ll be much closer to owning land and finally getting to a better place to live with more freedom. 😍

An off grid property like a hunting camp way out in the country without running water or electricity on 40 acres is a lot more affordable than one might think 💭. Certainly a steal compared to the plastic houses 🏡 the suburbanites love. Taxes are so much lower in a place like Missouri too. I bet when you generate your own power with solar, haul your own water, heat with wood you chop your own self and meat you harvest yourself, you are a lot more conscious of waste. โ™ป

Only a few more weeks of plastic bags 👝 at the supermarkets. I have some cloth bags I got from work I’ve been saving for some time to use when the new law goes into effect. I’ll just need to make sure I reserve them for shopping purposes 🏪 and not bring them to work with lunch or carry them out to the woods with gear for camping โ›บ. I used to use reusable bags a lot more years ago, but stopped because I never had them with me. I was thinking this morning how I’ll miss them for camping – so convenient for carrying gear, keeping things dry and storing camp trash until it’s burnt 🔥. I bought paper rather than Styrofoam bowels for camping this time – they’re actually a lot more durable in the pack, don’t smell nasty when they’re burnt and the more I learn about Styrofoam the more nasty I realize it is – especially the blowing agents and climate change. They’re not that much more expensive. 🍚 Now I get that there isn’t much of a difference between paper and Styrofoam in a landfill – waste of all types barely break down in landfills but that’s fine because I don’t want tend to burn my camp trash.

Back from dreaming to the forecast for today. New Year’s Day 2029 will have a slight chance of snow showers. Mostly cloudy 🌦, with a high of 35 degrees at 2pm. Four degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical day around February 15th. West wind around 17 mph. Chance of precipitation is 20%. A year ago, we had cloudy skies. The high last year was 53 degrees. The record high of 57 was set in 1966. 9.2 inches of snow fell back in 1961.โ„

Solar noon 🌞 is at 12:01 pm with sun having an altitude of 24.3ยฐ from the due south horizon (-46.5ยฐ vs. 6/21). Still got a ways to go before the sun is high in the sky. The golden hour 🏅 starts at 3:48 pm with the sun in the southwest (231ยฐ). 📸 Might actually be a good time to take some pictures this afternoon, especially in the hill towns with all the ice. The sunset is in the west-southwest (239ยฐ) starting at 4:30 pm and lasts for 3 minutes and 24 seconds with dusk around 5:05 pm, which is 50 seconds later than yesterday. 🌇 The best time to look at the stars is after 5:41 pm. At sunset, look for possible snow showers 🌨 and temperatures around 32 degrees. The wind chill around sunset will be 21. โ˜ƒ๏ธ Breezy, 16 mph breeze 🍃 from the west. Today will have 9 hours and 6 minutes of daytime, an increase of 43 seconds over yesterday.

Tonight, that is for the New Years Day Eve fondue my parents are having will be partly cloudy 🌤, with a low of 22 degrees at 6am. Six degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical night around March 4th. I’m ready to skip ahead to March. Saves on the heating bills, says the boy who puts $60 bills into the tank of his big jacked up truck but hates paying $80 for heat and electricity. โ™จ Maximum wind chill around 17 at 3am; West wind 6 to 15 mph. In 2019, we had mostly clear skies in the evening, which became mostly clear by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 20 degrees. The record low of -20 occurred back in 1970.

This afternoon having cheese fondue at the parents house 🍲 as their annual New Years Day celebration 🎉. Always a fun way to toast in the new year. Kind of hard to believe it’s already 2020, seemed like we were celebrating 2019 only a few days ago. Last year went by so fast.

Rain and snow this weekend but not really cold. 💦 Saturday, rain likely. Cloudy, with a high near 43. Chance of precipitation is 70%. Sunday, a chance of snow before 1pm. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 33. Chance of precipitation is 30%. Typical average high for the weekend is 31 degrees.

This next weekend is a stay at home weekend except for the Save the Pine Bush meeting and maybe hiking in the Pine Bush before it. 🚶 I doubt they’ll have enough snow to ski 🎿 there. But that’s fine. The Pine Bush often is just as pretty without snow than with it.

🌹🌻🌼Only 78 days remain until the first day of calendar spring!🌹🌻🌼

I know, what a joke 🃏 with the flowers 🌷and calendar 📅 spring. I mean by then you might see farmers in Alabama posting pictures of happy cows 🐮 grazing on grass for the first time but it’s still a month or five weeks until you’ll see any real green in outlying parts. Still it gives me something to look forward to. I have certainly camped a few times on the first day of spring.

As previously noted, next Wednesday is Bubble Bath Day 🧼 when the sun will be setting at 4:40 pm with dusk at 5:11 pm. On that day in 2019, we had cloudy, mild, rain showers and temperatures between 41 and 29 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 30 degrees. We hit a record high of 60 back in 2008.

Some Snow on the Trees

July 26, 2019 Night

Good evening! Mostly clear and 66 degrees at the Allegheny National Forest. Calm wind. The dew point is 60 degrees. It’s a bit sticky earlier this evening but certainly not oppressive. Now comfortable.

It’s been quite a day but I survived unharmed and saw some beautiful country. I like taking the blue highways but twice this day I got cut off and had to slam on the brakes.๐Ÿ’ฅI also almost got hit in the parking lot at Quaker Lake but fortunately not. I was parked at the time with my engine off so it wouldn’t have been my fault but it could have required a police report ๐Ÿ‘ฎ and body work had it happened. Stupid other kid backing out. I was reminded by Waze that Sugar Run Road was closed so I ended up dwtouring by taking a scenic drive through Allegany State Park – I was going to say I’ve never been through it in the summer – but that’s not true I drove that way in 2017 due to another Penna DOT detour on US 6 and making a wrong turn. But that’s fine I wanted to buy some food for dinner – Then I got lost in Bradford Penna – first looking for a grocery store and then later looking for the road back to the Kinzua Overlook – PA 59. Oh, and I had to back track a bit on Cuba, NY when I realized the old road that I was using to Shunpiking the Southern Tier Expressway was a dead end.

It was a good day though, first starting out at Klipnocky Road in Gas Springs State Forest then taking down the hammock and alternating between the Southern Tier Expressway and other routes that I could find for Shunpiking. ๐Ÿš™ It’s so easy to wile away the hours in the hammock. But I have to admit having phone access most of my trip I’ve not necessarily used my time for productive uses, e.g. reading ๐Ÿ“–. It’s so easy to scroll through Facebook and look at stupid memes. Some neat little historic towns I passed through. I snapped a few quick pictures on the dash cam but I admit I probably should have stopped a bit more and took in the streetscape ๐Ÿ“น before it’s gone or visited more of the local businesses like the Cuba Cheese Store. ๐Ÿ•

I was running a little bit early so I drove up to Little Rock City. ๐Ÿ“ท Not much has changed since I was there in 2013 during my autumn trip out there. ๐ŸThe past two off year trips I’ve shunned Western NY for West Virginia.

I also drove down to Allegany State Park to swim, ๐ŸŠ and the new bath house ๐Ÿ›€ was a dank and smelly as it was last time. The ventilation and drainage of the new bath house had never been right and I miss the vines and natural woods of the old one – the new one looks like standard suburban McMansion crap and the bathrooms while new are gross. The water was cold and not as clear in Quaker Lake as I remembered but that’s probably comparing it to Lake Erie whose water is particularly bad this year with severe blue green algea. ๐Ÿธ But the country driving out there was so beautiful.

Tonight will be mostly clear ๐ŸŒƒ, with a low of 57 degrees at 5am. Five degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical night around August 31st. That said, I expect it’s always a bit cooler here up in the Allegheny Mountains. Maximum dew point of 60 at 9pm. Calm wind. In 2018, we had mostly clear skies. It became very sticky as the night progressed. It got down to 68 degrees. The record low of 47 occurred back in 1977.

I’m fairly happy with the campsite I have here at the Allegheny National Forest. The Allegheny woods with the mountain laurel and broad canopy above is so much different than the Adirondacks. It’s really unfortunate it’s such a long trip from Albany ๐Ÿ—ป because it’s such beautiful country. I guess for folks who live in Buffalo, it’s just a weekend trip and hardly special but I guess the same can be said about me and the Adirondacks, especially Piseco Powley Road.

Tonight will have a Waning Crescent Moon ๐ŸŒ˜ with 20% illuminated. The moon will rise at 1:28 am. I’m not staying up for it tomorrow. The New Moon is on Tuesday night with a chance of t-storms. The Strugeon Moon ๐ŸŒ is on Wednesday, August 14th. The sun will rise at 6:03 am with the first light at 5:31 am, which is 58 seconds later than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ„ Tonight will have 9 hours and 25 minutes of darkness, an increase of one minute and 55 seconds over last night.

Tomorrow will have a slight chance of showers and thunderstorms after 2pm. Mostly sunny ๐ŸŒž, with a high of 81 degrees at 4pm. One degree below normal, which is similar to a typical day around August 10th. So be it, August is just around the corner. Maximum dew point of 60 at 5pm. Southwest wind 3 to 8 mph. Chance of precipitation is 20%. A year ago, we had mostly sunny skies. It was somewhat humid. The high last year was 86 degrees. The record high of 97 was set in 1955.

Tomorrow I’m heading back east to outside of Wellsboro where I have a camping permit for the night. โ›บ I want to stop at a few places on the way east, then explore the Pine Creek Gorge. ๐Ÿšถ I’m considering visiting the lumber museum, ๐ŸŒฒ๐ŸŒณ๐ŸŒฒ which is right on the way back and may also check out the completed block glass plaza in the little town whose name escapes me but used to a manufacturing hub for most of glass blocks used in buildings across the country. Maybe Port Allegheny? I’m glad at any rate I’ll be able to break up the long drive home into multiple days as I like to poke around on the back roads and not go too far in any one day๐Ÿš™ . At any rate, tomorrow is the last full day of vacation, Sunday by mid morning the focus will be on heading east on Route 6 then making a bee line for Albany on Interstate 88, so I can get home and unpacked and ready for a certain busy week at work. But I’m fine, it’s been a long time away from home and I’m starting grow tired of the travel.

In four weeks on August 23 the sun will be setting at 8:02 pm,๐ŸŒ„ which is 36 minutes and 40 seconds earlier then tonight. In 2018 on that day, we had mostly sunny and temperatures between 78 and 58 degrees. Typically, you have temperatures between 80 and 59 degrees. The record high of 94 degrees was set back in 1947.

Looking ahead, National Dog Day ๐Ÿฉ is a month away, Labor Day Weekend Begins ๐Ÿ‘จโ€๐Ÿญ is in 5 weeks and Friday the 13th ๐Ÿ‘ฟ is in 7 weeks.

Governorโ€™s turkey hunt highlights New Hampshireโ€™s rural culture โ€” Furbearer Conservation

Word on the street says that hunting is on a national downward trend. That “word” clearly hasn’t reached the hillside haunts of New Hampshire, as thousands of Granite State hunters and trappers still take to the woods each spring and fall to take part in the outdoor pastimes that have been integral to rural New England life. (Photo | Governor Sununu Facebook) (Photo | Governor Sununu Facebook) As of this past weekend, those thousands of hunters include New Hampshire Governor Chris Sununu, who lent support to a mentored turkey hunt this past weekend as part of a fundraiser for residents in need.
