March 2, 2020 Morning

Good morning! Happy Read Across America Day πŸ“š! Nothing beats a good old fashion book, especially on a nice evening down at the park or up in the woods. Great way to pass time, especially on a rainy day at camp. Last night was the first quarter moon. Next Monday is Worm Moon πŸŒ•. Cloudy and 31 degrees in Delmar, NY. ☁ There is a south breeze at 9 mph. πŸƒ. The skies will clear around 1 pm.

Kind of a gray and cloudy morning ☁ today. Going to be mild for sure. The heat on the bus 🚍 is ridiculous but I’m a bit hot because I had to run home and grab my lunch which I left on the kitchen table. Feeling better this morning, although this roaring hot bus makes my throat feel sticky and cough a bit. But I am not sick, or so I tell myself.

This afternoon I’m going over to John Wolcott house 🏑 as long as I feel okay πŸ‘Œ. I was feeling better last night but I took a sleeping pill πŸ’Š to make sure I got a good night’s sleep before the work week but this dry and hot air on the bus is no good for my throat.

Today will have a slight chance of rain or freezing rain before 11am, then a slight chance of rain after 5pm. Partly sunny 🌞, with a high of 53 degrees at 4pm. 14 degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical day around April 3rd. South wind 9 to 16 mph. Chance of precipitation is 20%. A year ago, we had mostly sunny skies in the morning, which became light snow by afternoon. The high last year was 37 degrees. The record high of 65 was set in 1991. 11.9 inches of snow fell back in 2018.❄

Solar noon 🌞 is at 12:08 pm with sun having an altitude of 40.4Β° from the due south horizon (-30.4Β° vs. 6/21). A six foot person will cast a 7 foot shadow today compared to 2.2 feet on the first day of summer. Sun angle is getting higher, which means fewer real cold days, and even if we do get snow, it won’t stick around super long, at least in the valley. The golden hour πŸ… starts at 5:09 pm with the sun in the west-southwest (255Β°). πŸ“Έ The sunset is in the west (262Β°) starting at 5:44 pm and lasts for 2 minutes and 56 seconds with dusk around 6:14 pm, which is one minute and 14 seconds later than yesterday. πŸŒ‡ At dusk you’ll see the First Quarter πŸŒ“ Moon in the south (183Β°) at an altitude of 69Β° from the horizon, 242,018 miles away. πŸš€ The best time to look at the stars is after 6:48 pm. At sunset, look out for possible rain showers 🌧  (but I hope not) and temperatures around 51 degrees. There will be a south breeze at 15 mph. Today will have 11 hours and 18 minutes of daytime, an increase of 2 minutes and 53 seconds over yesterday.

Tonight will have a chance of rain before 7pm, then a chance of showers, mainly between 7pm and midnight. Mostly cloudy 🌧, with a low of 37 degrees at 6am. 16 degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical night around April 13th. South wind 8 to 13 mph becoming light southwest after midnight. Chance of precipitation is 30%. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch possible. In 2019, we had light snow in the evening, which became cloudy by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 29 degrees. The record low of -10 occurred back in 1950.

Today in 1989, Twelve European Community nations agree to ban the production of all chlorofluorocarbons (CFCs) by the end of the century. πŸ’ It turned out not to be a big deal, because HCFCs were already common by then, and newer refrigerants were well on their way to coming on the market. Now, they are phasing out refrigerants that have a high global warming potential for more climate friendly ones.🌍 Certainly it was an easy enough fix for consumers, with minimal cost or inconvenience, most of the hard-work — engineering — had to be done by the manufacturers. Not sure if the other climate goals can be done just by engineering, despite the fact that people want to drive their electric cars to Wally World πŸš— generated by massive solar facilities not in their backyards.

I am continuing to work on the blog code ⌨ to re-write the uploader to handle multiple images to allow the before and after images to be saved under the same page ID. It’s actually a bigger re-write then that, but it will make uploading imaging much faster and reliable for me, making it easier for me to design content for the blog. I am really fascinated by what I can put together with those old aerial photos in comparison to modern ones. It’s going to give a lot of content to blog about.πŸ–Ό

I decided to grow back my sideburns a bit, πŸ’‡ after cutting them shorter and shorter. They’re kind of long now, I haven’t decided how long I am going to keep them. Maybe a bit too long now, but that’s to be decided. We’ll see as things get warmer out.

This week I need to rearrange my finances to find the $1,000 I need to open an IRA account. πŸ€‘ I have had a Roth IRA account for years, and I enjoy the fact that I’ll never have to pay taxes on it, but now that I’m working in the private sector and don’t have the advantage of a 457(b) Deferred Compensation, I am getting killed by taxes despite maximizing my 401k.πŸ‘«So I am doing the IRA thing. Actually, this my make sense if I eventually move out west to a state without income tax on retirement savings — or at least a high threshold — New York is $18k tax exempt. My only concern is that I might have a big tax bill in the future, if I cash out a big chunk in my later years to buy a tractor or implement 🚜 or a new truck. πŸš— I don’t make that money, but it’s obnoxious that I pay more in income tax each month then rent. βš– Thank you government for spending all of my money.

A picture perfect weekend on tap. 😎 Saturday, partly sunny, with a high near 36. Sunday, mostly sunny, with a high near 44. Typical average high for the weekend is 41 degrees. Might be a nice weekend to get out of town. But where? A lot of places are still closed off due to the snow and mud.Β I could possibly use a sled and drag back gear for tent camping in the back country, but the snow might be kind of soft and melty. Maybe it’s just best at this point to save money πŸ’Έ and wait for the spring time, which ain’t that far away. πŸ’

🌹🌻🌼Only 17 days remain until the first day of calendar spring!🌹🌻🌼

Going past the Elbow Room I noticed that they have a giant Corona Beer neon sign on their window. 🍻 I’m sure that’s good for business today. Myself I’m just looking forward to warmer weather and having a cold one up in the woods next tot he fire. I don’t normally drink but I do like a cold Corona on a hot day next to a fire, as gross as the bottles get before you return them. Summer road trips and camping up on Piseco-Powley Road can’t be too far away. I really like laying out back on the hammock.

As previously noted, next Monday is Worm Moon πŸŒ• when the sun will be setting at 6:55 pm with dusk at 7:23 pm (Daylight Savings Time). On that day in 2019, we had sunny and temperatures between 42 and 12 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 41 degrees. We hit a record high of 81 back in 2016.

Snow Covered Bushes

February 23, 2020 Night

Good evening! Clear and 39 degrees in Delmar, NY. There is a south breeze at 5 mph. 🍃. There is a dusting of snow on the ground. β˜ƒ Temperatures will drop below freezing at tomorrow around noontime. β˜ƒοΈ Nice mild evening, saving on the heating bills. I don’t think the heat kicked on at all this weekend with the sun hitting the roof, at least today.

It was a good weekend β˜€, lots of sun and time in the woods. While I decided against doing any camping, it was still nice in the wilderness. Visited Schodack Island, Albany Pine Bush, Five Rivers Environmental Education Center and Partridge Run in one weekend. Not too bad. 🌲🌲🌲🌲

Tonight will be mostly clear 🌃, with a low of 25 degrees at 5am. Six degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical night around March 14th. South wind around 5 mph. In 2019, we had cloudy skies in the evening, which became light drizzle by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 34 degrees. The record low of -11 occurred back in 1894.

Tonight will have a Waxing Crescent 🌒 Moon. The Worm 🐛 Moon is on Monday, March 9. The darkest hour is at 12:10 am, followed by dawn at 6:14 am, and sun starting to rise at 6:42 am in the east-southeast (103Β°) and last for 2 minutes and 58 seconds. Sunrise is one minute and 32 seconds earlier than yesterday. 🌄 The golden hour ends at 7:21 am with sun in the east-southeast (110Β°). Tonight will have 13 hours and 2 minutes of darkness, a decrease of 2 minutes and 48 seconds over last night.

Tomorrow will be mostly sunny 🌞, with a high of 55 degrees at 3pm. 18 degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical day around April 7th. South wind 3 to 6 mph. Exceptional but not unheard of. A year ago, we had cloudy skies in the morning with more sun in the afternoon. The high last year was 42 degrees. The record high of 74 was set in 2017. 8 inches of snow fell back in 1962.❄

In four weeks on March 22 the sun will be setting in the west (272Β°) at 7:10 pm (Daylight Savings Time),🌄 which is one hour, 33 minutes and 37 seconds later then tonight. In 2019 on that day, we had rain showers, mostly cloudy and temperatures between 43 and 30 degrees. Typically, you have temperatures between 47 and 28 degrees. The record high of 81 degrees was set back in 2012.

Been trying to figure out how to do shadow analysis in QGIS. 🏢 It would be great to do with all the buildings proposed by Crossgates and the impacts on Save the Pine Bush. The formula for shadows is simple as I noted yesterday if you know the altitude and direction of the sun. But adding the shadows of a specific length for each building in QGIS is not able to be automated as far as I can figure out.🌐

Spring and the last of the snow will be hear before you know it. I‘m thinking about taking off several days in April around Easter to take a road trip. β›Ί Have some nice nights in the wilderness.

Looking ahead, Daylight Savings Time 🌆 is in 2 weeks, Ides of March ✝ is in 3 weeks, Palm Sunday 🌴 is in 6 weeks, Easter 🐰 is in 7 weeks, Mothers Day 👩‍ is in 11 weeks, Pack Rat Day 🐀 is in 12 weeks, Memorial Day Weekend Starts 🏕️ is in 3 months, Strawberry Moon 🌕 is in 15 weeks, Fathers Day 👨 is in 16 weeks and Primary Day 🗳️ is in 4 months.

🇺🇸🦅Only 88 days remain until the start of Memorial Day Weekend!🦅🇺🇸

Towards the Valley

February 3, 2020 8 AM Update

Good morning! Monday’s come back around again. Iowa caucus day. I bet Bernie Sanders win Iowa but who knows. Next Monday is Clean Your Computer Day 🧹. I bet in rural Iowa that involves fire and maybe a D5 bulldozer. πŸ‘¨β€πŸŒΎ Iowa rednecks are the best and they have some mad good dirt to show for it! πŸ’© Light rain and 33 degrees at the Valero. β›ˆ I know I wasn’t really expecting rain.Β  There is a west breeze at 7 mph. πŸƒ. There is a dusting of snow on the ground. β˜ƒ Temperatures will drop below freezing at around 9 pm. β˜ƒοΈ

Taking an all electric bus downtown. 🚍 Honestly it’s not that different than any other bus although it seems a bit slower at kneeling and electric motor sounds a little different when spinning up and down. Little rougher over the potholes probably because the buses a lot heavier, especially on the roof line. Lacking gears and having strong regen on the hills the stop and go smoother. Do smell a bit of ozone being produced by the motors. ⚑ In a decade it will probably be so ordinary, like the hybrid buses hard to even note these days, except when they blow a lot of black smoke when the engines are malfunctioning.

Today will be partly sunny 🌞, with a high of 45 degrees at 1pm. 13 degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical day around March 17th. West wind 7 to 13 mph. A year ago, we had partly cloudy skies. The high last year was 45 degrees. The record high of 57 was set in 2016. 6.1 inches of snow fell back in 2004.❄

Solar noon 🌞 is at 12:10 pm with sun having an altitude of 30.8Β° from the due south horizon (-40.1Β° vs. 6/21). The golden hour πŸ… starts at 4:30 pm with the sun in the west-southwest (241Β°). πŸ“Έ The sunset is in the west-southwest (248Β°) starting at 5:08 pm and lasts for 3 minutes and 8 seconds with dusk around 5:40 pm, which is one minute and 19 seconds later than yesterday. πŸŒ‡ At dusk you’ll see the Waxing Gibbous πŸŒ” Moon in the southeast (129Β°) at an altitude of 58Β° from the horizon, 243,359 miles away. πŸš€ The best time to look at the stars is after 6:15 pm. At sunset, look for partly cloudy skies πŸŒƒ and temperatures around 40 degrees. There will be a west breeze at 9 mph. Today will have 10 hours and 3 minutes of daytime, an increase of 2 minutes and 24 seconds over yesterday.

Tonight will be mostly cloudy πŸŒ₯, with a low of 29 degrees at 5am. 14 degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical night around March 24th. West wind around 6 mph becoming calm in the evening. In 2019, we had cloudy skies in the evening, which became mostly clear by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 39 degrees. The record low of -13 occurred back in 1978.

While not perfect this weekend looks much better than recent. πŸ™‚ Saturday, partly sunny, with a high near 33. Sunday, a chance of rain and snow. Partly sunny, with a high near 37. Chance of precipitation is 30%. Typical average high for the weekend is 33 degrees.

I am a bit undecided on my weekend plans at this point, πŸ’ a lot depends on how much snow we get this week. I kind of want to go to the Johnstown Outdoors Show but if the weekend is really nice and only a small amount of snow I might go to Madison County and truck cap camp at the horse camp β›Ί. I could go to the Adirondacks if the snow banks aren’t too high but in that case it would certainly be snow tent camping dragging the tent and gear back in the woods.

🌹🌻🌼Only 45 days remain until the first day of calendar spring!🌹🌻🌼

As previously noted, next Monday is Clean Your Computer Day 🧹 when the sun will be setting at 5:20 pm with dusk at 5:49 pm. On that day in 2019, we had mostly cloudy, snow showers and temperatures between 33 and 17 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 33 degrees. We hit a record high of 53 back in 1955.

Helderberg Escarpment

February 1, 2020 Morning

Good morning! Happy February 🌧! It’s February 2020 if you can believe it, soon Iowa caucus time for those Democrats in Iowa. I’m sure they’re tired of all those Elizabeth Warren radio commercials on the top 40 country station 📻 and embers of Joseph Biden mailers floating off their smoldering burn barrels 🚒 setting their pastures on fire. 🔥 I’m sure it will just make the grass grow greener after they spread more hog shit on them come spring. It is Iowa after all, God’s country, a free place.

I don’t care, I’ll probably vote ❎ for Bernie Sanders come the spring. I think democratic socialism has a lot of good ideas, especially limiting the power of the state in the criminal justice system and his idea of universal health care is good if I want to eventually retire early so I can focus on improving my own land. 🚜 Plus he’s from Vermont and probably toured a barnyard or two and isn’t afraid of dirt roads or the woods. 🌲Unlike the pretty boy 👦 in the White House who talks about loving coal while he poops on a toilet 🚽 made of gold.

Cloudy and 31 degrees in Delmar, NY. ☁Calm wind. We got a dusting of snow but it sure is gray today. Must be because they haven’t removed the incumbent from the White House yet. Things will start to thaw out at around 8 am. 🌡️ Great more mud. 🐷

I made up pancakes and coffee β˜• for breakfast 🍳. A pretty good breakfast. Listening to Weekend Edition. Not a very nice day, very gray for sure. I’m chewing over walking out to Five Rivers Environmental Education Center 🐸 but I don’t know. I want to do some soldering projects, 🔬 finish up on the John Wolcott index 📇 and some other projects.

Today will have a slight chance of snow showers, mixing with rain after 11am, then gradually ending. Mostly cloudy 🌧, with a high of 37 degrees at 12pm. Five degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical day around February 23rd. Calm wind becoming north around 5 mph in the afternoon. Chance of precipitation is 20%. A year ago, we had partly cloudy skies in the morning with some clearing in the afternoon. The high last year was 18 degrees. The record high of 65 was set in 1989. 15 inches of snow fell back in 1898.❄

Solar noon 🌞 is at 12:10 pm with sun having an altitude of 30.2Β° from the due south horizon (-40.6Β° vs. 6/21). The golden hour 🏅 starts at 4:27 pm with the sun in the west-southwest (240Β°). 📸 The sunset is in the west-southwest (247Β°) starting at 5:05 pm and lasts for 3 minutes and 9 seconds with dusk around 5:37 pm, which is one minute and 19 seconds later than yesterday. 🌇 At dusk you’ll see the First Quarter 🌓 Moon in the south (173Β°) at an altitude of 59Β° from the horizon, 248,379 miles away. 🚀 The best time to look at the stars is after 6:12 pm. At sunset, look for mostly cloudy skies ☁ and temperatures around 35 degrees. There will be a north-northwest breeze at 5 mph. Today will have 9 hours and 58 minutes of daytime, an increase of 2 minutes and 20 seconds over yesterday.

The fact that the sun is above 30 degrees angle and the calendar β˜€ gives me a great deal of hope. I really want to spend more nights in the wilderness but it has to be reasonably pleasant out, with the snow banks low enough that I can find a place to park. 🅿 I really miss the fires and camping in the wilderness. β›Ί It’s just not the same sleeping at home with the windows shut and just walking around the neighborhood🚶. Spring is coming! 🌸 But God willing maybe I’ll get out for a weekend in the wilderness as soon as next week, but only time will tell.

Tonight will have isolated snow showers after 3am. Mostly cloudy 🌧, with a low of 26 degrees at 4am. 11 degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical night around March 16th. Northwest wind 3 to 5 mph. Chance of precipitation is 20%. In 2019, we had clear skies in the evening, which became partly cloudy by the early hours of the morning. It got down to -2 degrees. The record low of -18 occurred back in 1961.

🌹🌻🌼Only 47 days remain until the first day of calendar spring!🌹🌻🌼

One month 📅 from now will be March 🌨 when the sun will be setting at 5:45 pm with dusk at 6:13 pm.

January 30, 2020 Night

Good evening! Partly cloudy and 23 degrees in Delmar, NY. β›… There is a south-southeast breeze at 5 mph. 🍃. There is a dusting of snow on the ground. β˜ƒ Things will start to thaw out at tomorrow around noontime. 🌡️

Not a half cold evening for the end of January. 🚶 I went for my evening walk pretty late tonight around 9 pm. Lately been going out much earlier. But I’ll still have enough time for a good night’s sleep. I’m looking forward to the nights being warm enough to sit out back especially before the bugs get bad. I think I will do a lot more reading 📖 out back.

I didn’t spend any time reading 📖 it or working on typing the labels for John Wolcott 🔖 as I promised myself I would. John has a bit of a cold and so do I have some minor symptoms so I don’t want to get him sicker. Once I get the labels typed I’ll ask Lynne Jackson to see if she can print them. That said, she’s very busy with fighting the Crossgates Mall Apartment complex now that the DEIS is posted – I’m doing some of the research but I’m no expert nor do I know how to find appropriate experts. But others know how to do that. I can just raise my voice, kick in a few bucks and help with a little GIS analysis.

I made fish sticks 🐠 and veggies for dinner in the oven. Good enough for a change from pasta. I rode the exercise bike 🚲 for a while, watched a little YouTube video I had downloaded and worked on some code. I keep telling myself that I should get out my soldering iron and build some electronics. 🔬 I like building shit but I’m so bad at soldering. I should learn wire wrapping.

Dentist visit went well today.🦷 No dental health issues, except I should floss more regularly. I need to buy newer floss, the stuff I have is like ten plus years old and comes apart when I use it. I did have a burn on my gums from pasta I made up earlier in the week. 🍝 I credit my teeth health to all the milk I drink and how don’t have candy 🍬 or soda at home and only beer rarely when I camp. 🍻

Tonight will be partly cloudy 🌤, with a low of 16 degrees at 5am. One degree above normal, which is similar to a typical night around February 6th. Maximum wind chill around 20 at 1am; South wind 3 to 5 mph. In 2019, we had mostly clear skies in the evening, which became mostly clear by the early hours of the morning. It got down to -3 degrees. The record low of -26 occurred back in 1948.

Tonight will have a Waxing Crescent 🌒 Moon with 32% illuminated. At 9 PM, the moon was in the west-southwest (255Β°) at an altitude of 20Β° from the horizon, some 251,389 miles away from where you are looking up from the earth. 🚀 At the state speed limit of 55 mph, you’ll make it there by August 8th. Buckle up for safety! 💺 The moon will set in the west (274Β°) at 10:51 pm. The Snow ❄ Moon is on Sunday, February 9.

The darkest hour is at 12:09 am, followed by dawn at 6:43 am, and sun starting to rise at 7:13 am in the east-southeast (114Β°) and last for 3 minutes and 10 seconds. Sunrise is 58 seconds earlier than yesterday. 🌄 The golden hour ends at 7:55 am with sun in the east-southeast (121Β°). Tonight will have 14 hours and 5 minutes of darkness, a decrease of 2 minutes and 18 seconds over last night.

Tomorrow will be mostly sunny 🌞, with a high of 37 degrees at 2pm. Five degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical day around February 23rd. Calm wind becoming south around 5 mph. A year ago, we had mostly sunny skies in the morning, which became light snow by afternoon. The high last year was 14 degrees. The record high of 58 was set in 1913. 6.9 inches of snow fell back in 2000.❄

It should be interesting to play β–Ά with that little six dollar mini camera 🎥 I got on Ali Express. I think it will be very useful if I can use it plugged into the charger and just record video anytime it senses motion. We’ll see how it works, it’s not a big investment. So many little tiny mini and spy cameras on the AliExpress – you really have no idea when somebody might be recording you. And they’re so cheap too – some are even hidden in USB charging hubs, fake dice 🎲 and even pens βœ’ – and they’re only a few bucks. All kinds of audio recorders too.

Thinking 💭 a little about spring time trips β›Ί – I’d like to do Stoney Pond in Morrisville then drive south to Chenango County and maybe Long Pond in April. Things could and probably will change though. I would probably get away mid April maybe before things green up and the bugs are out.

I am still thinking about using the birthday and Christmas money 💵 I got from my parents to get an enclosed picnic tent 🎪 – that would really help to make Memorial Day Weekend with the black flies and any modestly rainy days in the woods much more enjoyable. I got to read up on it – probably too late for the end of season sales now and I doubt things will be on sale again right away so it’s no rush. When camping it would be nice to be able to sit out on a rainy or buggy day and not be trapped in my little camp tent or truck cap.

In four weeks on February 27 the sun will be setting in the west (259Β°) at 5:41 pm,🌄 which is 36 minutes and 16 seconds later then tonight. In 2019 on that day, we had snow and temperatures between 15 and 8 degrees. Typically, you have temperatures between 38 and 20 degrees. The record high of 61 degrees was set back in 1997.

Looking ahead, Save the Pine Bush Turns 42 🦋 is in 1 week, 5:30 PM Sunset 🌆 is in 3 weeks and Flower Moon 🌕 is in 14 weeks.

🇺🇸🦅Only 16 weeks remain until the start of Memorial Day Weekend!🦅🇺🇸

Icy

January 28, 2020 Morning

Good morning! Happy Tuesday. Final full day I’m 36 years old. Tomorrow at 5:28 am or something like that according to my birth certificate, which is handwritten but not fake, I’ll be 37. Two weeks to Don’t Cry over Spilled Milk Day πŸ₯›. I don’t know, rancid milk can be pretty pungent πŸ‘ƒ, says the dirty hick that I am. πŸ‘¨β€πŸŒΎ Cloudy in Trump’s America and 35 degrees in Delmar, NY, as I take the old hybrid bus from 2010 downtown. ☁ There is a northwest breeze at 8 mph. πŸƒ. Temperatures will drop below freezing at around 6 pm. β˜ƒοΈ

Yes, I learned my lesson from yesterday and took the earlier bus 🚍 downtown. Its a bit annoying because this bus gets me to work much earlier than necessary but at least I won’t clock in late πŸ•’ and then have to stay late to get my seven and a half in. It’s tough with the 20 minute headway on the bus 🚏, I preferred it when they had the 15 minute headway but they’re wasn’t enough ridership to justify that level of service during the morning rush hour.

I was a bit worried I was getting a cold again 😷 after hearing John Wolcott was feeling sick again but I’m okay this morning. I sure hope I don’t get sick any time soon. I try to be a lot better washing my hands, but it can be difficult to do good handwashing practices.

Today will have isolated snow showers before 11am. Mostly cloudy 🌦, with a high of 38 degrees at 2pm. Seven degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical day around February 26th. Northwest wind 8 to 16 mph. Chance of precipitation is 20%. A year ago, we had mostly sunny skies. The high last year was 22 degrees. The record high of 56 was set in 1916. 9.6 inches of snow fell back in 1897.❄

This morning I realized that I forgot to get pan spray 🍳 the last time I was at the store but I have my dentist appointment on Thursday so I’ll get it then. Kind of essential for making waffles. I think I will drive to the dentist just based on the timing of things. I also wanted to get another set of Bluetooth headphones 🎧 and more drain solvent so I had plenty in stock the last time I went to Wally World but they didn’t have it in stock..

Solar noon 🌞 is at 12:09 pm with sun having an altitude of 29.1Β° from the due south horizon (-41.7Β° vs. 6/21). Adding sun angle quickly at this point, so when we get a bright sunny day it’s bound not to be quite as cold out as only a few weeks ago. You saw the February average high chart πŸ“Š I posted yesterday – it’s a steady climb through March.

The golden hour πŸ… starts at 4:21 pm with the sun in the west-southwest (238Β°). πŸ“Έ The sunset is in the west-southwest (246Β°) starting at 5:00 pm and lasts for 3 minutes and 11 seconds with dusk around 5:33 pm, which is one minute and 18 seconds later than yesterday. πŸŒ‡ At dusk you’ll see the Waxing Crescent πŸŒ’ Moon in the southwest (222Β°) at an altitude of 31Β° from the horizon, 252,182 miles away. πŸš€ The best time to look at the stars is after 6:07 pm. At sunset, look for mostly cloudy skies ☁ and temperatures around 35 degrees. There will be a west-northwest breeze at 14 mph. Today will have 9 hours and 49 minutes of daytime, an increase of 2 minutes and 12 seconds over yesterday. Definitely getting longer.

Tonight will be mostly cloudy πŸŒ₯, with a low of 22 degrees at 6am. Seven degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical night around March 4th. Maximum wind chill around 12 at 6am; Northwest wind 8 to 10 mph. In 2019, we had mostly clear skies in the evening, which became cloudy by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 5 degrees. The record low of -10 occurred back in 1925.

While Wednesday and Thursday are expected to be quite nice, clouds and some rain or snow showers for the weekend. β˜” Saturday, a chance of snow showers before 1pm, then a chance of rain showers. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 38. Chance of precipitation is 30%. Sunday, a chance of snow showers. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 38. Chance of precipitation is 40%. Typical average high for the weekend is 32 degrees. At least another mild weekend is on tap, good for the heating bills. The woods might be super sloppy again this weekend after the rain but maybe I can road hike at Partridge Run or maybe in the Albany Pine Bush where the sand rarely gets muddy.

🌹🌻🌼Only 51 days remain until the first day of calendar spring!🌹🌻🌼

In other words, tomorrow marks 50 days until calendar spring. πŸ“… As that song by Godspell Soundtrack says, Day by Day.

As previously noted, there are 2 weeks until Don’t Cry over Spilled Milk Day πŸ₯› when the sun will be setting at 5:21 pm with dusk at 5:50 pm. On that day in 2019, we had partly cloudy, snow showers and temperatures between 33 and 18 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 34 degrees. We hit a record high of 59 back in 1981.

Good evening! Mostly cloudy and 37 degrees in Delmar, NY. ☁ There is a southwest breeze at 5 mph. 🍃. The ground is mostly free of snow and tonight will remain above freezing. β˜ƒ ️Temperatures will drop below freezing at tomorrow around 9 pm. β˜ƒοΈ

Went to my parents house and they made stuffed shells 🐚 and carrot cake 🎂. It was good but I eat too much. I got home, hung up my shirts 👚 so they don’t have too many wrinkles. I went out for my evening walk 🚶 and are listening to the the Skeptics Guide to Universe and are about to kill the lights.

Tonight will have a slight chance of rain and snow showers between 10pm and 3am, then a slight chance of snow showers after 3am. Mostly cloudy 🌧, with a low of 34 degrees at 5am. 20 degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical night around April 6th. South wind around 5 mph. Chance of precipitation is 20%. In 2019, we had mostly clear skies in the evening, which became light snow by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 11 degrees. The record low of -23 occurred back in 1994.

The Snow ❄ Moon is on Sunday, February 9. The darkest hour is at 12:09 am, followed by dawn at 6:46 am, and sun starting to rise at 7:17 am in the east-southeast (115Β°) and last for 3 minutes and 12 seconds. Sunrise is 51 seconds earlier than yesterday. 🌄 The golden hour ends at 7:59 am with sun in the east-southeast (123Β°). Tonight will have 14 hours and 14 minutes of darkness, a decrease of 2 minutes and 9 seconds over last night.

Tomorrow will have a slight chance of rain and snow showers before 10am, then a slight chance of rain showers between 10am and 11am. Partly sunny 🌞, with a high of 42 degrees at 2pm. 11 degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical day around March 10th. South wind 5 to 14 mph becoming west in the afternoon. I like spring weather. Chance of precipitation is 20%. A year ago, we had mostly sunny skies. The high last year was 40 degrees. It was pretty nice last year too. The record high of 62 was set in 1974. 9.3 inches of snow fell back in 1963.❄

I am sure the solar panel will keep all the batteries 🔋 well charged with the higher sun angle 📐and the ample sun this week.🌞 On Saturday the batteries were well enough charged that the alternator shut off and ran entirely off the batteries for a short period of time like it will after an extended period driving. It should work great come the summer during an extended period of camping at one campsite in the woods.

Mom and Dad gave me a $100 check for my birthday 🎂. I am thinking about getting an enclosed canopy to use for camping, especially during black fly season on Memorial Day Weekend or during other extended trips when we might have rain β˜” or bad bugs. It would be nice to have a protected area on a buggy or rainy day to camp be outdoors with a book, a meal or just listening to a podcast and not be trapped in the truck cap. It looks like they range from around $200 to $300 but they are quite popular out camping it seems and it would be great for extended weekends camping. That said, this year with work it might not be an issue – not sure if I’ll be able to get out of town for Memorial Day Weekend. But maybe for summer vacation?

Also this year I think I want to do more back country camping. β›Ί As much as I like truck cap camping with all the gear I have such a craving to do more nights in the wilderness alone. I want to do more different things this summer, I always camp in the same places year after year and it gets kind of boring 💤.

In four weeks on February 23 the sun will be setting in the west-southwest (257Β°) at 5:36 pm,🌄 which is 36 minutes and 27 seconds later then tonight. In 2019 on that day, we had mostly cloudy, sleet and temperatures between 38 and 20 degrees. Typically, you have temperatures between 37 and 19 degrees. The record high of 69 degrees was set back in 2017. In a month we will be creeping towards spring and starting to get a bit warmer.
