May 15, 2021 Morning

Good morning! Happy Saturday. It’s the weekend! No work today for me. โ˜บ Five weeks to Average High is 80 ๐Ÿ– . Mostly sunny and 50 degrees in Speculator, NY. There is a west breeze at 6 mph. ๐Ÿƒ.

I checked and it looks like Mason Lake Road is open ๐Ÿ‘Œ๐Ÿป but after checking the ice and thinking about it some more I decided to camp one more day off NY 8B and then head up on Sunday when more camping options are open. ๐Ÿšถ๐Ÿป I’m thinking I’ll hike Watch Hill on Sunday and today I want to do some birding ๐Ÿฆ on Upper Robb Creek Road based on a friend’s recommendation.

Today will be mostly sunny ๐ŸŒž, with a high of 68 degrees at 4pm. Three degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical day around May 6th. West wind 6 to 9 mph. A year ago, we had partly cloudy skies in the morning with some clearing in the afternoon. The high last year was 84 degrees. The record high of 93 was set in 1900.

Should be a real nice day, but I’m hoping for a breeze ๐Ÿƒ to keep the black flies in check. ๐Ÿœ Yesterday wasn’t so bad as there was a a steady breeze for most of the day. Of course I wasn’t happy that the wind blew the tent away ๐ŸŽช, sending no only the tent 100 ft up and away but also smashing my new lantern ๐Ÿฎ and ripping out all the tent stakes. Fortunately the screen tent wasn’t damaged. It happened so quickly while I was working on my laptop ๐Ÿ–ฅ doing work from the hammock. We got this pop up rain shower โ˜” and it wasn’t a big deal except for a crazy strong gust after the storm ended. I have the plugged lantern which I will part out for repairs when I get home. ๐Ÿก

Solar noon ๐ŸŒž is at 12:55 pm with sun having an altitude of 65.4ยฐ from the due south horizon (-4.5ยฐ vs. 6/21). A six foot person will cast a 2.7 foot shadow today compared to 2.2 feet on the first day of summer. The golden hour ๐Ÿ… starts at 7:35 pm with the sun in the west-northwest (291ยฐ). ๐Ÿ“ธ The sunset is in the west-northwest (298ยฐ) with the sun dropping below the horizon at 8:16 pm after setting for 3 minutes and 19 seconds with dusk around 8:48 pm, which is one minute and 5 seconds later than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ‡ At dusk you’ll see the Waxing Crescent ๐ŸŒ’ Moon in the west (276ยฐ) at an altitude of 33ยฐ from the horizon, 246,877 miles away. ๐Ÿš€ The best time to look at the stars is after 9:31 pm. At sunset, look for partly clear skies ๐ŸŒ„ and temperatures around 59 degrees. There will be a west breeze at 6 mph. Today will have 14 hours and 43 minutes of daytime, an increase of 2 minutes and 9 seconds over yesterday.

Tonight will be partly cloudy ๐ŸŒƒ, with a low of 39 degrees at 5am. Nine degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical night around April 21st. West wind 3 to 6 mph. In 2020, we had rain in the evening, which became cloudy by the early hours of the morning. It was somewhat humid. It got down to 55 degrees. The record low of 33 occurred back in 1980.

Looking ahead, there are 3 weeks until 8:30 PM Sunset ๏ธโ›ฑ๏ธ when the sun will be setting at 8:34 pm in Spectulator with dusk at 9:09 pm. On that day in 2020, we had hot and humid weather with a thunderstorm and temperatures between 85 and 71 degrees. Sticky night but what do I know I was working remote from the Adirondacks. Typically, the high temperature is 77 degrees. We hit a record high of 97 back in 1925.

May 11, 2021 Morning

Good morning! Happy Tuesday. Up bright and early, as I’ve decided I want to get in habit of getting up earlier, especially with going back to the office next week with the reduced bus scheduled ๐ŸšŒ and even sooner going up to the Adirondacks before work come Thursday. โ›ฐ Spring is well underway, with only three weeks to 9 PM Dusk ๐ŸŒ† . Partly sunny and 43 degrees in Delmar, NY. ๐Ÿ˜Ž There is a west breeze at 7 mph. ๐Ÿƒ. Good morning, it’s springtime, going to warm up quickly, reach 58 degrees later with a stiff breeze.

A nice morning for the walk ๐Ÿšถ๐Ÿป. I am going to miss my morning walks when I’m back working downtown ๐Ÿข although I am hoping they bring back ghr express bus ๐Ÿš and I can walk down there in the morning. ๐Ÿ˜ท Then throw my muzzle on and be whisked downtown. Saw both a few red winged black birds, a robin and a gold finch this morning. ๐Ÿฆ

Landlord showed up yesterday with the plumber, ๐Ÿšฝ unannounced and got the various issues fixed with the plumbing. It will be nice having a bathroom sink that works again, no more problems with the toilet, and not the constant wet and leaks in kitchen. It literally took him about two hours, although I ended up working at the library as it involved a lot of banging of pipes ๐Ÿ‘ฉ‍๐Ÿ”ง and I didn’t want to necessary to let my very much Republican landlord hearing the business calls. Been super busy lately with work. ๐Ÿข Literally, some of these issues should have been addressed a decade ago, but I’ve been like it’s not a big issue until right now. ๐Ÿ›

I wasn’t happy with the unexpected visit by landlord, ๐Ÿงน as things were kind of a mess and pile of dishes in the sink, the floors are unclean and working from home that was terribly distracting. ๐Ÿ›€ I wanted to take a shower yesterday, but I couldn’t do that as he had the pipes all apart in the bathroom. But at least I can do that today. With the warmer weather, I think I am going to go back daily showers, as I tend to get kind of dirty and smelly, and I am going to be in the office more now with things getting back to normal. ๐Ÿ’ฆ I figure the various fixes should save a fair amount of water.

My therapist is not wrong in saying I shouldn’t delay everything and procrastinate. ๐Ÿ‘ฉ‍โš•๏ธ It really does help with the anxiety to not be such a procrastinator. ๐Ÿ˜Ÿ Well, now I don’t have to clean up things as much, although without out the leaks, and constant mold it might be a lot easier to clean shit up. ๐Ÿ”ฅ I’ve also been told I’ll be less of a fire bug if I get my anxiety levels more under control by being less of a procrastinator, fearing less of the worse case scenarios. ๐Ÿ‘ฉ‍๐ŸŒพ And just remember, as I redneck, I’ll always be a redneck, and there ain’t no changing that. Rednecks do redneck things, and that’s totally manageable condition. Or something to that effect he said. ๐Ÿคฃ I am paying $25 an hour plus my insurance another $50 for advice like that. White trash with money, I guess. ๐Ÿ’ต

Chuckling, going past my childhood neighbors house (the long-haired country boys in trailers with the pigs and cows) ๐Ÿท with that great big pile of wood, pallets and debris, they’ve been saving to burn on May 15th when the burn ban is over. ๐Ÿ‘ฉ‍๐Ÿš’ Besides being real American rednecks, they’re firefighters, they have to sort of follow the law when they burn shit.

Today will have isolated showers after 3pm. Mostly sunny ๐ŸŒž, with a high of 59 degrees at 1pm. 11 degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical day around April 15th. West wind 7 to 17 mph. Chance of precipitation is 20%. A year ago, we had light rain in the morning, which became partly cloudy by afternoon. The high last year was 63 degrees. The record high of 90 was set in 1911. 0.5 inches of snow fell back in 1907.โ„

Should be a real nice day for sure, although a bit cool with breeze. ๐Ÿ˜Ž But a ton of sunshine. But the best is yet to come as we push towards the weekend and things start to get nicer. I am going to work from home today I think, ๐Ÿ‘ฉ‍๐Ÿ’ป as the plumbing is fixed. As was going to work in the office either today or tomorrow to make sure the equipment is still working and my ID badge still works, etc. ๐Ÿ’ณ but there really is no need when I can be home enjoying the fresh air. I think things will be fine next week, I’ll just bring my laptop in case things are down in the office. ๐Ÿ’ป Between the wi-fi they have there and my hotspot I should be good. I always used to joke about being cruel and unusual punishment to have to work downtown on nice days, even if work pays for my big jacked up truck, my guns, my fishing pole and all the stuff I like to burn up in the woods. ๐Ÿค‘ Speaking of which, today is pay day.

Solar noon ๐ŸŒž is at 12:53 pm with sun having an altitude of 65.4° from the due south horizon (-5.5° vs. 6/21). A six foot person will cast a 2.8 foot shadow today compared to 2.2 feet on the first day of summer. The golden hour ๐Ÿ… starts at 7:27 pm with the sun in the west-northwest (289°). ๐Ÿ“ธ The sunset is in the west-northwest (296°) with the sun dropping below the horizon at 8:07 pm after setting for 3 minutes and 12 seconds with dusk around 8:38 pm, which is one minute and 5 seconds later than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ‡ The best time to look at the stars is after 9:19 pm. At sunset, look out for possible pop up showers ๐ŸŒง and temperatures around 50 degrees. Bring your rain coat, prepare to get wet. ๐Ÿ’ง You’ve been warned. โš ๏ธ There will be a west-northwest breeze at 10 mph. Today will have 14 hours and 29 minutes of daytime, an increase of 2 minutes and 13 seconds over yesterday.

I told John Wolcott I’d be coming over today ๐Ÿ”Ž but I don’t think that’s likely to be with my work schedule. I should think about getting packed starting today or this evening ๐Ÿ’ผ for camp especially if I’m going over to John’s house tomorrow. I could go grocery shopping tomorrow at lunch for camp โ›บ but that’s a risky proposition as I often get busy with work midday ๐Ÿ•› and meetings get called. I do want to have most of the supplies I need as Charlie John in Spectulator is a great store but expensive.

Tonight will have isolated showers between 10pm and 11pm. Partly cloudy ๐ŸŒง, with a low of 40 degrees at 6am. Seven degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical night around April 24th. West wind around 10 mph. Chance of precipitation is 20%. In 2020, we had cloudy skies. It got down to 37 degrees. The record low of 29 occurred back in 1969.

A picture perfect weekend on tap. ๐Ÿ˜Ž Saturday, scattered showers, mainly after 2pm. Partly sunny, with a high near 69. Chance of precipitation is 40%. Maximum dew point of 45 at 7pm. Sunday, scattered showers. Mostly sunny, with a high near 70. Chance of precipitation is 40%. Maximum dew point of 47 at 8pm. Typical average high for the weekend is 71 degrees.

I am thinking I will head north on Thursday, before work ๐Ÿ’ป and work from Speculator, camp somewhere nearby on Thursday night, and then somewhere a bit more remote come Friday evening through Sunday evening. Probably work in Speculator Thursday, Friday and Monday. Tuesday I have be back in office, suit and tie. ๐Ÿ‘จ‍๐Ÿ’ผ I expect to be in the office a lot more soon, so I figure get out and enjoy it while I still can. โ›บ I was thinking about Madison County, as they won’t have black flies there, but maybe mosquitos. I really want to paddle Nine Mile Swamp, and maybe also around Hyde Bay at Glimmerglass. ๐Ÿ›ถ Plus good bird watching at the Rogers Center ๐Ÿฆ, and the rich smell of fresh farm dirt in Sherburne. ๐Ÿฎ I am thinking maybe either the following weekend or after the Memorial Day Weekend. The thing is if I go out there, I can only stay three nights without a camping permit. ๐ŸŽซ Plus fewer options to go shooting in woods. ๐Ÿ”ซ No idea on Memorial Day Weekend, depends on the weather. I might do the Green Mountains, as I know a few places where I have a good cell service up there for work or maybe I’ll tent camp for a few nights locally. ๐Ÿ“ฑ Just need to plan things out, so I don’t have to be in office right around then. And to have enough solar to keep everything running smoothly.

As previously noted, there are 3 weeks until 9 PM Dusk ๐ŸŒ† when the sun will be setting at 8:26 pm. Good weather for going down to the park with a book. ๐Ÿ“• Or swimming at the Potholers. ๐ŸŠ‍โ™€๏ธ On that day in 2020, we had partly cloudy, rain showers and temperatures between 68 and 41 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 76 degrees. We hit a record high of 94 back in 1918.

Springtime on the Trail

May 8, 2021 10 AM Update

Good morning! Happy Saturday. It’s the weekend! Six weeks to Average High is 80 ๐Ÿ–. I bet we will hit 80 at least once it twice before then, we often do despite the fairly cool spring this year. Cloudy and 51 degrees at the Five Rivers Environmental Education Center. โ˜” There is a south-southeast breeze at 7 mph. ๐Ÿƒ. The skies will clear around 10 pm.

Today will be scattered showers. Cloudy ๐ŸŒฆ, with a high of 55 degrees at 2pm. 14 degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical day around April 7th. Southwest wind 5 to 8 mph. Chance of precipitation is 50%. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch possible. A year ago, we had partly cloudy skies in the morning, remaining cloudy in the afternoon. The high last year was 57 degrees. The record high of 91 was set in 1936. There was a dusting of snow in 1977.โ„

Decided to walk out to Five Rivers this morning and observe the birds. ๐Ÿฆ Not a lot of wildlife out an about but so far I’ve seen a bright red male cardinal, a crackle and a shit ton of boring robins and red wing black birds. That said, nothing beats the coolness of that robin harassing that great big barred owl ๐Ÿฆ‰ last night at the Town Park. I must have watched that action for 15 minutes last night.

Solar noon ๐ŸŒž is at 12:53 pm with sun having an altitude of 64.6ยฐ from the due south horizon (-6.3ยฐ vs. 6/21). A six foot person will cast a 2.9 foot shadow today compared to 2.2 feet on the first day of summer. The golden hour ๐Ÿ… starts at 7:24 pm with the sun in the west-northwest (288ยฐ). ๐Ÿ“ธ The sunset is in the west-northwest (295ยฐ) with the sun dropping below the horizon at 8:04 pm after setting for 3 minutes and 11 seconds with dusk around 8:35 pm, which is one minute and 6 seconds later than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ‡ The best time to look at the stars is after 9:15 pm. At sunset, look for rain ๐ŸŒง and temperatures around 50 degrees. There will be a west breeze at 6 mph. Today will have 14 hours and 23 minutes of daytime, an increase of 2 minutes and 18 seconds over yesterday.

Tonight will have a slight chance of showers before 11pm. Cloudy, then gradually becoming partly cloudy ๐ŸŒง, with a low of 40 degrees at 6am. Six degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical night around April 24th. West wind around 6 mph. Chance of precipitation is 20%. In 2020, we had light rain in the evening, which became cloudy by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 33 degrees. The record low of 27 occurred back in 1956.

Looking ahead, there are 4 weeks until 8:30 PM Sunset ๏ธโ›ฑ๏ธ when the sun will be setting at 8:29 pm with dusk at 9:04 pm. On that day in 2020, we had hot and humid conitiins with an afternoon thunderstorm and temperatures between 85 and 71 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 77 degrees. We hit a record high of 97 back in 1925.

Over the Hill

May 7, 2021 Morning

Good morning! Happy 8 PM Sunset ๐ŸŒ‡ ! Days are definitely getting longer, with lots of daylight in evening after work. Three weeks to Memorial Day Weekend Starts ๐Ÿ•๏ธ . I can’t believe that’s so close. It won’t be like last year for sure. Mostly sunny and 36 degrees in Delmar, NY. ๐ŸŒž Calm wind.

A nice spring morning. ๐ŸŒธ I’m thinking it won’t be long before it’s real hot out. 70 degrees days are quite rare in the Albany area. Usually it’s cool in the 60s in May until it’s in the 80s and 90s. The official 70 degree days in range are usually just due to averages, not actual conditions on the ground. It just turns out we rarely have truly average weather, it’s more a combination of the extremes. That said, with the current weather pattern, I’d say it’s going to be quite a bit on cool side of things for a while.

The express bus stop remains empty this morning, ๐Ÿš but it looks like it’s ready whenever service returns. I can’t imagine it will be long, the New York City Subways are restoring full service in the next few weeks, and it seems like they are bringing back more state employees every day. ๐ŸšŒ I am going to be working downtown more over the next few weeks, and maybe it will be transitioning back to a more normal way of doing things. But it will be a pain until they fully restore rush hour service and end capacity limits on the elevators ๐Ÿ‘ฉ‍๐Ÿ‘ฉ‍๐Ÿ‘ฆ‍๐Ÿ‘ฆ during the evening rush. Maybe I can take the stairs. ๐Ÿง—‍โ™‚๏ธ Honestly, I kind of liked remote work and doing things from the Spectulator library, ๐Ÿ’ป while camping in back country, but I guess things have change, although I think it’s silly as the way we’ve done things over the past year works okay.

Been thinking about what the best way to do weather average for the blog. ๐ŸŒฉ Do you use the 15-year climate averages or the more typical 30-year climate averages? Good question! I feel like the 15-year averages from 2006-2020 might be too based on decadal trends that are particularly unusual and it’s possible that the 2020s will be cooler, although with climate change I have my doubts. โ„๏ธ Most meteorologists use the 1991-2020 averages, which I might end up using just for consistency sake. Plus this allows me to celebrate at least in my head on what a nice warm day it is, even if it’s not really the case. Even with the longer averages, there is no more time periods at least in Albany where the average high temperature is no longer below freezing. So weeks of icy roads and sidewalks seem increasingly unlikely, a thing I’ve noticed in recent years. Climate is getting warmer.

Today will have patchy frost before 8am. Otherwise, increasing clouds ๐ŸŒฅ, with a high of 63 degrees at 4pm. 6 degrees below normal, which feels like April 25th. May hasn’t quite arrived yet in the view of Mr. Weather. Calm wind becoming southeast around 6 mph in the afternoon. A year ago, we had cloudy skies in the morning with more sun in the afternoon. The high last year was 65 degrees. The record high of 92 was set in 1930. 0.2 inches of snow fell back in 1967.โ„

Solar noon ๐ŸŒž is at 12:53 pm with sun having an altitude of 64.3° from the due south horizon (-6.5° vs. 6/21). A six foot person will cast a 2.9 foot shadow today compared to 2.2 feet on the first day of summer. The golden hour ๐Ÿ… starts at 7:23 pm with the sun in the west-northwest (288°). ๐Ÿ“ธ The sunset is in the west-northwest (294°) with the sun dropping below the horizon at 8:03 pm after setting for 3 minutes and 10 seconds with dusk around 8:33 pm, which is one minute and 6 seconds later than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ‡ The best time to look at the stars is after 9:13 pm. At sunset, look for rain showers ๐ŸŒง and temperatures around 55 degrees. There will be a south-southeast breeze at 5 mph. Today will have 14 hours and 20 minutes of daytime, an increase of 2 minutes and 20 seconds over yesterday.

I want to get to store and get groceries and supplies some time this morning. ๐Ÿช I have a meeting at 1 PM, and I like to go out during my lunch time, but I might take it a bit early to get it done. Last night, I put some baking soda on the carpet where I think I noticed the smell yesterday, and left the windows open last night, vacuuming things up this morning, and now it doesn’t have that pungent smell I noticed last night. ๐Ÿ‘ƒ I still want to get some air freshers and additional cleaning supplies too. While I don’t know when my landlord is coming over for repairs, I figure I’ve done my due diligence by notifying him of problems I’ve notice and it’s good to get things cleaner. ๐Ÿงน Often I delay cleaning, but it’s nice not having dust and dirt everywhere.

Tonight will have a chance of showers, mainly after 3am. Mostly cloudy ๐ŸŒง, with a low of 41 degrees at 6am. 6 degrees below normal, which is similar to April 25th. Southeast wind 5 to 7 mph. Chance of precipitation is 30%. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch possible. In 2020, we had light rain in the evening, which ended and it became partly cloudy by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 35 degrees. The record low of 26 occurred back in 1968.

Tomorrow will have a chance of showers. Cloudy ๐ŸŒฆ, with a high of 56 degrees at 4pm. 13.9 degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical East wind 5 to 7 mph becoming west in the afternoon. Chance of precipitation is 50%. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch possible. A year ago, we had cloudy skies in the morning with more sun in the afternoon. The high last year was 57 degrees. The record high of 91 was set in 1936. There was a dusting of snow in 1977.โ„ If it’s not too wet, maybe that’s a good day to walk out to Five Rivers with the binoculars and observe spring birds, like I do nearly every weekend these days when I’m in town. ๐Ÿฆ

Looking ahead to Sunday, mostly sunny, with a high near 62. ๐Ÿ˜Ž West wind 7 to 10 mph. Maximum dew point of 39 at 8am. Typical average high for the weekend is 69 degrees. Sunday seems like the best day of the weekend, I am probably going to go hiking somewhere in the Heldebergs. Maybe Thacher Park, although I kind of prefer to go some where a little more wild with fewer people. Maybe Rensselearville State Forest, after noon when the spring turkey hunters are done. ๐Ÿฆƒ

As previously noted, there are 3 weeks until Memorial Day Weekend Starts ๐Ÿ•๏ธ when the sun will be setting at 8:23 pm with dusk at 8:57 pm. On that day in 2020, we had hot and humid weather with temperatures between 83 and 68 degrees. I remember that well from working up in Spectulator and camping near Mason Lake. Busy, working weekend holiday, but at least I was up north. Typically, the high temperature is 75 degrees. We hit a record high of 93 back in 2016.

Not sure what my Memorial Day Weekend will be like this year, ๐Ÿœ but I know that the black flies wait in waiting. Maybe I should plan somewhere are fewer black flies. I could do wilderness camping this year, and avoid crowds at one of state forests outside of mountains. Or I could go up to Vermont or the Adirondacks and swat the black flies. Not sure which days I will be in the office and which days will be remote, so that might depend where I have to go and how god my cell service must be. ๐Ÿ“ฑ If I am planning to work remote, I’ll have to be somewhat near a WI-FI signal as I am reducing my plan to correlate with spending more time in the office, and because I don’t need it as much with things re-opening. I wonder how long before the library is fully re-opened for work inside? ๐Ÿ“š

 Wide Open

May 6, 2021 Morning

Good morning! Happy Thursday. Partly cloudy and 47 degrees in Delmar, NY. โ›… There is a northwest breeze at 11 mph. ๐Ÿƒ with gusts up to 22 mph ๐Ÿ’จ๐Ÿ’จ๐Ÿ’จ. The breeze definitely makes things feel cooler than reality. Still a nice spring day. ๐ŸŒธ While still a month away, looking forward to seeing the daisies ๐ŸŒผ come out. Birds are definitely chirping today. ๐Ÿฆ The grass blowing in the wind ๐ŸŒพ at the farm down the way is pretty with the deep blue skies.

I’ve been getting to bed early ๐Ÿ› and an earlier start, as it won’t be long before I am going downtown more regularly ๐Ÿข. I also am not sure when the landlord is coming over to make repairs so I wanted to take a shower ๐Ÿšฟ and be ready to go downtown for work if he starts making a lot of noise. ๐Ÿšฝ I’ve worked from home when he’s been over making repairs but it’s a terrible distraction. ๐Ÿ”Š Even if he doesn’t come over today and I end up just feeling clean that’s fine. ๐Ÿ›€ Keeping things good and clean is good.

Today will be mostly sunny ๐ŸŒž, with a high of 59 degrees at 5pm. Eight degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical day around April 17th. Northwest wind 11 to 17 mph, with gusts as high as 32 mph. That breeze despite the sun will keep things feeling cool. A year ago, we had mostly sunny skies. The high last year was 59 degrees. The record high of 89 was set in 1930. There was a dusting of snow in 1994.โ„

Solar noon ๐ŸŒž is at 12:53 pm with sun having an altitude of 64° from the due south horizon (-6.8° vs. 6/21). A six foot person will cast a 2.9 foot shadow today compared to 2.2 feet on the first day of summer. The golden hour ๐Ÿ… starts at 7:22 pm with the sun in the west-northwest (287°). ๐Ÿ“ธ The sunset is in the west-northwest (294°) with the sun dropping below the horizon at 8:02 pm after setting for 3 minutes and 10 seconds with dusk around 8:32 pm, which is one minute and 7 seconds later than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ‡ The best time to look at the stars is after 9:12 pm. At sunset, look for mostly clear skies ๐ŸŒ„ and temperatures around 52 degrees. There will be a west-northwest breeze at 7 mph. Today will have 14 hours and 18 minutes of daytime, an increase of 2 minutes and 22 seconds over yesterday.

Still trying to figure out what they smell is downstairs. ๐Ÿ‘ƒ๐Ÿป Airing things out helped. Maybe a dead mouse ๐Ÿญ although I’m leaning towards mold under the carpet when I was scrubbing it earlier in the week. I guess it’s an excuse to do more cleaning. I plugged in an air freshener downstairs and I’m continuing to search around. Windows are all open which I think is helping. I may make a trip to the store later to get more air fresheners and cleaning supplies. ๐Ÿšฝ Maybe some is the noxious ammonia cleaner I’ve been using later, or that bathroom mat that looks like it has some urine on it. Not sure, I got to get better at aiming for the toilet when I pee. Yet, another benefit to being out in the woods.

Tonight will be partly cloudy ๐ŸŒค, with a low of 38 degrees at 6am. Six degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical night around April 18th. Going to be a chilly night to keep the windows open ๐Ÿ”ณ. West wind 5 to 7 mph becoming calm after midnight. In 2020, we had mostly clear skies in the evening, which became cloudy by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 43 degrees. The record low of 29 occurred back in 1874.

Weekend looks increasingly cloudy and stormy and cold. ๐Ÿ˜• Saturday, a chance of showers. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 56. Northeast wind around 6 mph becoming west in the afternoon. Chance of precipitation is 40%. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch possible. Sunday, mostly sunny, with a high near 61. Maximum dew point of 38 at 8am. Typical average high for the weekend is 67 degrees. I will probably just walk out to Five Rivers on Saturday and then do some kind of hike Sunday.

Looking ahead, there are 7 weeks until Strawberry Moon ๐ŸŒ• when the sun will be setting at 8:37 pm with dusk at 9:12 pm. On that day in 2020, we had humid, partly sunny, rain showers and temperatures between 85 and 65 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 80 degrees. We hit a record high of 96 back in 1943.

Red

May 3, 2021 Morning

Good morning! Monday’s come back around again for this first week of May. ๐ŸŒท Not going to be a real nice week but we are getting caught up on the rain โ˜”. Two weeks to Average High is 70 ๐Ÿฎ. Mostly cloudy and 51 degrees in Delmar, NY. โ˜ Calm wind. The dew point is 49 degrees. The skies will clear Thursday around 2 am.

Not a terrible morning, ๐Ÿฅž had a nice breakfast with pancakes and lots of frozen pineapple. Out for my morning walk now. ๐Ÿ˜ท Its nice that being fully vaccinated ๐Ÿ’‰ that I don’t have to wear my muzzle any more outdoors. Yes, I’m aware that means life returning back closer to normal although truth be told, I think the world has changed.

Finally got my shorts and t-shirts out yesterday. ๐Ÿ‘• Mainly because I was running low on clothes, but also because it’s finally got warm enough to be a bit more comfortable and save on the amount of wash I have. ๐Ÿšฟ I am looking forward to the nicer weather, although not so much the really hot weather of summer, although I expect I will be working in office more in coming weeks, and I’ll have to try to plan my weeks so I’m in the office on the really sweltering days. ๐Ÿข

Yesterday, I went out for a walk at Papscannane Island Nature Preserve ๐Ÿฆ and saw a lot of birds. I like going down to the river that way. It’s not too far from home. This time I didn’t go to Aldis ๐Ÿช mainly because I needed some supplies from Walmart, so that’s where I ended up shopping. ๐Ÿ“ Got lots of good frozen fruit for my pancakes and shit. Didn’t have any last week, as I didn’t get any before going camping as you can’t really have frozen things up at camp. ๐Ÿฝ Then I went out to the folks house for dinner.

Last night, in five seconds the dog last night shredded my freebee ball cap I got from work. ๐Ÿงข I wasn’t happy about that. Then he had my camera bag and camera in his mouth, but I pulled it out of that and yelled at him. ๐Ÿ˜  What an ass. ๐Ÿถ People ask why I hate pets so much — mainly because you can’t eat them and they are dead weight. It was kind of a nice hat but I think I will have to get a Carhartt one at Tractor Supply.

Today will have a chance of showers, mainly after 3pm. Mostly cloudy ๐ŸŒฆ, with a high of 63 degrees at 3pm. Three degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical day around April 27th. Maximum dew point of 52 at 2pm. Calm wind becoming southeast 5 to 8 mph in the afternoon. Chance of precipitation is 30%. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch possible. A year ago, we had mostly sunny skies in the morning with a few breaks of sun the afternoon. The high last year was 78 degrees. The record high of 89 was set in 2001. There was a dusting of snow in 1986.โ„

Solar noon ๐ŸŒž is at 12:53 pm with sun having an altitude of 63.2ยฐ from the due south horizon (-7.7ยฐ vs. 6/21). A six foot person will cast a 3 foot shadow today compared to 2.2 feet on the first day of summer. The golden hour ๐Ÿ… starts at 7:19 pm with the sun in the west-northwest (286ยฐ). ๐Ÿ“ธ The sunset is in the west-northwest (293ยฐ) with the sun dropping below the horizon at 7:58 pm after setting for 3 minutes and 8 seconds with dusk around 8:28 pm, which is one minute and 7 seconds later than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ‡ The best time to look at the stars is after 9:07 pm. At sunset, look for rain ๐ŸŒง and temperatures around 59 degrees. The dew point will be 52 degrees. There will be a southeast breeze at 6 mph. Today will have 14 hours and 11 minutes of daytime, an increase of 2 minutes and 26 seconds over yesterday.

Tonight will have showers, mainly after 8pm. ๐ŸŒง Low of 52 degrees at 4am. Seven degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical night around May 27th. Maximum dew point of 52 at 6pm. ๐Ÿ–๏ธ Southeast wind around 5 mph. Chance of precipitation is 90%. New precipitation amounts between a quarter and half of an inch possible. In 2020, we had mostly clear skies. It got down to 45 degrees. The record low of 28 occurred back in 1985.

Kind of an unsettled weekend ahead. ๐ŸŒฆ๏ธ Saturday, a chance of showers. Mostly sunny, with a high near 59. Chance of precipitation is 30%. Sunday, a chance of showers. Partly sunny, with a high near 61. Chance of precipitation is 30%. Maximum dew point of 42 at 7pm. Typical average high for the weekend is 67 degrees. Not sure if I am going to get out of town this weekend. ๐Ÿก I’ve been thinking about a Central NY trip, as there won’t be the black flies there but maybe not this weekend.

Been thinking about reducing my data plan down, ๐Ÿ“ฑ now that I am going to be working downtown more. ๐Ÿข I was going to fully get rid of the 20 gb hot spot and unlimited mobile data come the expiration I three weeks with the nicer weather, the library fully reopening and work returning to full time downtown. Not sure if all those things will be true by then, I will revalue as time draws nearer. One option I’m considering is to save ten or 12 bucks by going to the 10 gb Hotspot plan with the unlimited mobile. I’m just not sure if Zoom is going away tomorrow.

Looking ahead, there are 2 weeks until the average high is 70, and it’s Pack Rat Day ๐Ÿ€ when the sun will be setting at 8:13 pm with dusk at 8:45 pm. Good day for a bonfire, get rid of all that accumulated burnable junk — the burn ban will be over, so get your big bonfire on. ๐Ÿ”ฅ Hot enough fire, that plastic crap doesn’t smell one bit. You didn’t hear that from me, I’m totally blaming the TikTok. ๐Ÿ“ผ On that day in 2020, we had mostly cloudy, rain showers and temperatures between 74 and 54 degrees. We hit a record high of 92 back in 2017.
