February 3, 2020 8 AM Update

Good morning! Monday’s come back around again. Iowa caucus day. I bet Bernie Sanders win Iowa but who knows. Next Monday is Clean Your Computer Day 🧹. I bet in rural Iowa that involves fire and maybe a D5 bulldozer. πŸ‘¨β€πŸŒΎ Iowa rednecks are the best and they have some mad good dirt to show for it! πŸ’© Light rain and 33 degrees at the Valero. β›ˆ I know I wasn’t really expecting rain.Β  There is a west breeze at 7 mph. πŸƒ. There is a dusting of snow on the ground. β˜ƒ Temperatures will drop below freezing at around 9 pm. β˜ƒοΈ

Taking an all electric bus downtown. 🚍 Honestly it’s not that different than any other bus although it seems a bit slower at kneeling and electric motor sounds a little different when spinning up and down. Little rougher over the potholes probably because the buses a lot heavier, especially on the roof line. Lacking gears and having strong regen on the hills the stop and go smoother. Do smell a bit of ozone being produced by the motors. ⚑ In a decade it will probably be so ordinary, like the hybrid buses hard to even note these days, except when they blow a lot of black smoke when the engines are malfunctioning.

Today will be partly sunny 🌞, with a high of 45 degrees at 1pm. 13 degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical day around March 17th. West wind 7 to 13 mph. A year ago, we had partly cloudy skies. The high last year was 45 degrees. The record high of 57 was set in 2016. 6.1 inches of snow fell back in 2004.❄

Solar noon 🌞 is at 12:10 pm with sun having an altitude of 30.8Β° from the due south horizon (-40.1Β° vs. 6/21). The golden hour πŸ… starts at 4:30 pm with the sun in the west-southwest (241Β°). πŸ“Έ The sunset is in the west-southwest (248Β°) starting at 5:08 pm and lasts for 3 minutes and 8 seconds with dusk around 5:40 pm, which is one minute and 19 seconds later than yesterday. πŸŒ‡ At dusk you’ll see the Waxing Gibbous πŸŒ” Moon in the southeast (129Β°) at an altitude of 58Β° from the horizon, 243,359 miles away. πŸš€ The best time to look at the stars is after 6:15 pm. At sunset, look for partly cloudy skies πŸŒƒ and temperatures around 40 degrees. There will be a west breeze at 9 mph. Today will have 10 hours and 3 minutes of daytime, an increase of 2 minutes and 24 seconds over yesterday.

Tonight will be mostly cloudy πŸŒ₯, with a low of 29 degrees at 5am. 14 degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical night around March 24th. West wind around 6 mph becoming calm in the evening. In 2019, we had cloudy skies in the evening, which became mostly clear by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 39 degrees. The record low of -13 occurred back in 1978.

While not perfect this weekend looks much better than recent. πŸ™‚ Saturday, partly sunny, with a high near 33. Sunday, a chance of rain and snow. Partly sunny, with a high near 37. Chance of precipitation is 30%. Typical average high for the weekend is 33 degrees.

I am a bit undecided on my weekend plans at this point, πŸ’ a lot depends on how much snow we get this week. I kind of want to go to the Johnstown Outdoors Show but if the weekend is really nice and only a small amount of snow I might go to Madison County and truck cap camp at the horse camp β›Ί. I could go to the Adirondacks if the snow banks aren’t too high but in that case it would certainly be snow tent camping dragging the tent and gear back in the woods.

🌹🌻🌼Only 45 days remain until the first day of calendar spring!🌹🌻🌼

As previously noted, next Monday is Clean Your Computer Day 🧹 when the sun will be setting at 5:20 pm with dusk at 5:49 pm. On that day in 2019, we had mostly cloudy, snow showers and temperatures between 33 and 17 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 33 degrees. We hit a record high of 53 back in 1955.
