April 13, 2021 Morning

Good morning! Happy Tuesday. Two weeks to Pink Moon ๐ŸŒ•  to celebrate the Pinkster. ๐ŸŒบ Not sure if related, but I saw some of dogwoods are out in bloom and they smell nice this time of year. Partly cloudy and 46 degrees in Delmar, NY. โ›… Calm wind. Still a bit gray out this morning, but it appears it will be quite nice by mid-day, with weather more like late April then mid-April. But warm enough for a pleasant morning walk. ๐Ÿšถ๐Ÿป I’ll take a shower when I have some downtime at work, and get ready for heading downtown on the bus ๐ŸšŒ at 11:30 for my COVID-shot.  ๐Ÿšฟ

Today will be mostly sunny ๐ŸŒž, with a high of 64 degrees at 4pm. Seven degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical day around April 28th. Another real nice spring day, already have my windows open. ๐ŸŒบ Calm wind becoming north around 5 mph in the afternoon. A year ago, we had light rain in the morning, which became heavy rain by afternoon. The high last year was 64 degrees. The record high of 87 was set in 1977. 5.5 inches of snow fell back in 1950.โ„

Busy day ahead with work than downtown at my lunch break on the bus ๐Ÿš for round two of my COVID-19 Shot. ๐Ÿ’‰ Then come home for a bit and then drive over to the therapist. ๐Ÿ’ญ I’m really looking forward to learning more about my thought process and discussing my feelings and sometimes conservative views, my love of all things fire be in the Pine Bush or burn barrels ๐Ÿ”ฅ and off-grid living. ๐Ÿก So many things to chew over these days. ๐Ÿฎ It’s really hard to find a neutral party to talk to, especially when most of my close friends and colleagues are generally quite liberal. ๐Ÿ™ And it’s only a $25 first incidence appropriation for the copay. ๐Ÿ’ต If I decide it’s worthwhile I’ll budget some more. I hope I become a better person, so I can be better at making more money. Then back home, do a little more work ๐Ÿ’ป and maybe then go down to the park with book. ๐Ÿ“–

Solar noon ๐ŸŒž is at 12:56 pm with sun having an altitude of 56.6° from the due south horizon (-14.3° vs. 6/21). A six foot person will cast a 4 foot shadow today compared to 2.2 feet on the first day of summer. The golden hour ๐Ÿ… starts at 6:58 pm with the sun in the west (277°). ๐Ÿ“ธ

The sunset is in the west-northwest (283°) with the sun dropping below the horizon at 7:35 pm after setting for 2 minutes and 58 seconds with dusk around 8:04 pm, which is one minute and 9 seconds later than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ‡ At dusk you’ll see the Waxing Crescent ๐ŸŒ’ Moon in the west (278°) at an altitude of 13° from the horizon, 252,236 miles away. ๐Ÿš€ The best time to look at the stars is after 8:40 pm. At sunset, look for partly clear skies ๐ŸŒ„ and temperatures around 61 degrees. There will be a calm wind. Definitely a good night for reading down at the park ๐Ÿž although I have to watch out for ticks. Maybe no sitting in the grass. ๐ŸŒพ Today will have 13 hours and 18 minutes of daytime, an increase of 2 minutes and 47 seconds over yesterday.

Tonight will be partly cloudy ๐ŸŒค, with a low of 45 degrees at 5am. Eight degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical night around May 8th. Calm wind. In 2020, we had mostly clear skies in the evening, which became mostly clear by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 40 degrees. The record low of 19 occurred back in 1973.

After rain and snow up north on Thursday and Friday, looking at a pretty good weekend. ๐Ÿ˜Ž Saturday, partly sunny, with a high near 57. Sunday, mostly sunny, with a high near 61. Maximum dew point of 38 at 1pm. Typical average high for the weekend is 59 degrees.

Maybe more clouds up north, but I think it will be a good weekend to get out of town, especially if I camp on a hard, well drained area and avoid trails that are particularly wet, maybe preferring road hikes. ๐Ÿ• The fire danger should be much reduced after Thursday and Friday, ๐Ÿ”ฅ which is good because I’ll want a small fire to stay warm with all that cold and damp. Rivers will be ragging for fishing, but I might choose to fish the Sacanadaga in Wells before the open the hydro-dam for the morning power ramp,โšก ๐Ÿ’ฆ or Chittenango Creek not too far downstream where water levels might be high if I go out west. ๐ŸŽฃ Still need to renew my fishing license, hoping I can do that at Wally World or I might hit up a hick-town town hall to get it. ๐ŸŽซ

As previously noted, there are 2 weeks until Pink Moon ๐ŸŒ• when the sun will be setting at 7:51 pm with dusk at 8:21 pm. We were discussing the Pinksterfest Albany used to have ๐ŸŒบ before it got cut due to budgetary concerns in favor of a bigger Tulipfest. ๐ŸŒทOn that day in 2020, we had rain showers, cold, cloudy and temperatures between 46 and 37 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 63 degrees. We hit a record high of 91 back in 1962.

I am increasingly looking forward to getting out of town this weekend

I am increasingly looking forward to getting out of town this weekend. ๐Ÿ•

The forecast looks iffy for Friday, so I am not sure if I will head north or west until Friday mid-day, but I have all day off so I could certainly leave Thursday either before or after work. It’s been a long time since I’ve spent a night in the woods by a fire, and sometimes the best way to get back to a normal sleeping routine. I am not sure if I will be totally off-the-grid without cell service, but regardless a night in the woods is far better then any night at home. It should be nice enough Saturday that I can lay back in the hammock with  a good book, maybe go for a hike, and be relaxed. And with the rain later this week, the fire risk should be a lt lower.

Smoke

April 12, 2021 Morning

Good morning! Monday’s come back around again. Five weeks to Average High is 70 ๐Ÿฎ. Kind of a chilly day, but at the same time, warm enough that at least for now my windows are open. Rather have the fresh air and dress in layers. Warmer weather is certain though at this point. ๐ŸŒกCloudy, damp but so far not a lot of rain and 48 degrees in Delmar, NY. โ˜” There is a east breeze at 6 mph. ๐Ÿƒ. The skies will clear around 2 am.

This has been the story of the past 24 hours. ๐ŸŒ‚ Everything is very bone dry, and the rain has been more clouds then actual wetness. While we have many chances for rain this week, I am not certainly expecting very high stream levels when I get north this weekend, but hopefully at least the fire risk will be lower. ๐Ÿ”ฅ I’ll probably just work from home all day, as I haven’t used that much internet bandwidth lately, as the weather sucks. ๐Ÿ’ป

Yesterday morning though, was pretty nice when I was out Five Rivers ๐Ÿธ with so much wildlife out and about, and a lot of sun before the area got overrun by noisy kids and yuppies as the morning progressed into mid-day. I really should do more early morning walks out to Five Rivers when I’m home on the weekends. I tend to sleep in a bit too late at times. Sunday dinner with the folks was good ๐Ÿฅฃ although at times listening to the elderly parents reminds me that all people start to sound like cranky old grandparents at some point on their lives. ๐Ÿง“ ๐Ÿ‘ต I’ll try to remain young as long as possible. ๐Ÿค  Maybe wear my cowboy hat more to cover my own gray hairs.

Today will have a chance of rain. Cloudy ๐ŸŒง, with a high of 54 degrees at 4pm. Three degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical day around April 6th. East wind around 6 mph. Chance of precipitation is 40%. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch possible. A year ago, we had partly cloudy skies in the morning, remaining cloudy in the afternoon. The high last year was 64 degrees. The record high of 84 was set in 1977. 3.3 inches of snow fell back in 1962.โ„

Solar noon ๐ŸŒž is at 12:57 pm with sun having an altitude of 56.2° from the due south horizon (-14.6° vs. 6/21). A six foot person will cast a 4 foot shadow today compared to 2.2 feet on the first day of summer. The golden hour ๐Ÿ… starts at 6:56 pm with the sun in the west (277°). ๐Ÿ“ธ The sunset is in the west-northwest (283°) with the sun dropping below the horizon at 7:34 pm after setting for 2 minutes and 58 seconds with dusk around 8:03 pm, which is one minute and 8 seconds later than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ‡ At dusk you’ll see the Waxing Crescent ๐ŸŒ’ Moon in the west (281°) at an altitude of 3° from the horizon, 251,681 miles away. ๐Ÿš€ The best time to look at the stars is after 8:38 pm. At sunset, look for rain showers ๐ŸŒง and temperatures around 51 degrees. There will be a east breeze at 7 mph. Today will have 13 hours and 16 minutes of daytime, an increase of 2 minutes and 48 seconds over yesterday.

Tonight will have a slight chance of rain before 1am. Cloudy, then gradually becoming partly cloudy ๐ŸŒง, with a low of 40 degrees at 5am. Three degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical night around April 22nd. East wind 3 to 7 mph. Chance of precipitation is 20%. In 2020, we had partly cloudy skies in the evening, which became light rain by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 49 degrees. The record low of 19 occurred back in 1874.

Tomorrow is the big COVID-shot. ๐Ÿ’‰ It should be a fun day, with lots of sun. Then to my talk therapist, which should be an adventure, and hopeful one where I learn a thing or two about myself, figure out how to be a better person and make more money. ๐Ÿ’ฐ Probably I’m writing off Wednesday for recovery from COVID-19 shot, and then Thursday I’ll pack for camping but in no rush to head north or west until Friday, because I think Friday might be quite wet. โ›บ But a few nights in wilderness should help restore my sleeping patterns.

Weekend looks like a pretty decent mid-April weekend. ๐Ÿ˜Ž Saturday, partly sunny, with a high near 59. Sunday, a chance of showers. Partly sunny, with a high near 61. Chance of precipitation is 30%. Maximum dew point of 38 at 10am. Other forecasts aren’t as optimistic but I still have Friday off from work, and I am thinking either the ADKs or CNY at this point. ๐Ÿ• Need to renew my fishing license, probably at Wally World. ๐ŸŽฃ Typical average high for the weekend is 59 degrees. Spring is definitely, coming, I noticed a lot of greening up yesterday at Five Rivers. ๐ŸŒณ Posting pictures throughout the day.

Looking ahead, there are 5 weeks until Pack Rat Day ๐Ÿ€ when the sun will be setting at 8:13 pm with dusk at 8:45 pm. A good chance to clean stuff out. A man wiser then me once said, “You can burn anything with a hot enough of a fire.” ๐Ÿ”ฅ That and “if it’s dark enough out, they won’t see the black smoke”. On that day in 2020, we had mostly cloudy, rain showers and temperatures between 74 and 54 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 70 degrees. We hit a record high of 92 back in 2017. I remember that day, it was a pretty warm spring day and I was wearing my suit and tie in air conditioned office downtown. ๐Ÿ•ด Walked through the park to the Capitol.

Turn

April 11, 2021 Morning

Good morning! Happy Sunday. Next Sunday the Average High is 60. Partly cloudy and 58 degrees at the Five Rivers Environmental Education Center. ๐ŸŒค๏ธThere is a southeast breeze at 6 mph. ๐Ÿƒ. The dew point is 52 degrees. The skies will clear Wednesday around 8 pm.

This morning I decided to walk down to Five Rivers ๐Ÿฆ with my binoculars, scope out some birds and wildlife, enjoy the sun before the clouds push in for the day. ๐Ÿšถ๐Ÿป Right now it’s a pretty nice morning but it’s not expected to last. Seeing a lot of wildlife at Five Rivers, the woodchuck is still hanging out under Radley Barn, spotted a different muskrat in a different pond today, red winged black bird, geese, chickadee, among others.

Today will have showers, mainly after 4pm. Cloudy ๐ŸŒฆ, with a high of 64 degrees at 2pm. Eight degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical day around April 28th. Maximum dew point of 54 at 1pm. Southeast wind 6 to 10 mph. Chance of precipitation is 60%. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch possible. A year ago, we had cloudy skies in the morning with a few breaks of sun the afternoon. The high last year was 50 degrees. The record high of 87 was set in 2017. 1.7 inches of snow fell back in 1942.โ„

This afternoon, I will head home and then out to the folks house for Sunday dinner. ๐Ÿฒ Probably get there early so I can leave before dark with rain predicted. โ˜” I don’t like driving in the rain after dark especially if I can avoid it on the rural roads.

Solar noon ๐ŸŒž is at 12:57 pm with sun having an altitude of 55.8ยฐ from the due south horizon (-15ยฐ vs. 6/21). A six foot person will cast a 4.1 foot shadow today compared to 2.2 feet on the first day of summer. The golden hour ๐Ÿ… starts at 6:56 pm with the sun in the west (276ยฐ). ๐Ÿ“ธ The sunset is in the west-northwest (282ยฐ) with the sun dropping below the horizon at 7:33 pm after setting for 2 minutes and 57 seconds with dusk around 8:02 pm, which is one minute and 9 seconds later than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ‡ The best time to look at the stars is after 8:37 pm. At sunset, look for rain ๐ŸŒง and temperatures around 59 degrees. The dew point will be 49 degrees. There will be a east-southeast breeze at 9 mph. Today will have 13 hours and 13 minutes of daytime, an increase of 2 minutes and 49 seconds over yesterday.

Tonight will have showers. ๐ŸŒง Low of 44 degrees at 6am. Eight degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical night around May 4th. East wind 6 to 8 mph. Chance of precipitation is 80%. New precipitation amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch possible. In 2020, we had clear skies in the evening, which became partly cloudy by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 29 degrees. The record low of 13 occurred back in 1874.

Yesterday, I went out to the Massachusetts – New York line ๐Ÿ—ป and hiked the Taconic Skyline ATV Trail to the CCC trail then down along the Taconic Crest Hiking Trail back to my truck. It was a nice day with lots of wildlife to observe. ๐Ÿธ Only saw one other person all day. Been taking photos with my good camera ๐Ÿ“ธ so I’ll have to upload them later.

While the week’s weather forecast isn’t great I have a lot planned. ๐ŸŽฃ Tuesday is my second COVID shot ๐Ÿ’‰ and therapy session ๐Ÿ‘ค, and I have Friday off to spend a long weekend in the woods doing some fishing and camping. โ›บ Probably the ADKs but not opposed to Central NY if weather is better. The forecast isn’t perfect but it looks like we will be getting some rain โ˜” this week which should make having a small fire ๐Ÿ”ฅ up in the woods relatively safe if I drown the coals when done. ๐Ÿ’ฆ Looking forward to having the COVID shot done, and I think if I’m very transparent and forecoming in my therapy sessions it will be a a good investment – a hundred or two bucks in copay for higher wages ๐Ÿ’ต and more confidence down the road.

As previously noted, next Sunday the Average High is 60 ๐ŸŒท when the sun will be setting at 7:41 pm with dusk at 8:10 pm. On that day in 2020, we had snow showers, partly cloudy skies and temperatures between 49 and 34 degrees. Kind of a cold day. We hit a record high of 90 back in 1976.

 Rock Face at Oxbow Pond

April 10, 2021 Morning

Good morning! Happy 8 PM Dusk ๐ŸŒ† ! Three weeks to May ๐Ÿ•Š . Partly cloudy and 56 degrees in Delmar, NY. โ›… There is a south breeze at 6 mph. ๐Ÿƒ. The dew point is 49 degrees. A rather nice morning, after a cloudy start to the day, going to be a beautiful day for sure. I probably would have gone up north this weekend but I’m concerned with the fire risk with everything bone dry, plus I had that interview with John Wolcott and Greg Bell yesterday, although Leon Van Dyke couldn’t get connected which was a big disappointment.

Today will be mostly sunny ๐ŸŒž, with a high of 74 degrees at 4pm. 18 degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical day around May 31st. Maximum dew point of 50 at 11am. South wind 6 to 9 mph. I’ll take that but I also won’t be lighting any matches or dropping lit cigarettes. ๐Ÿ”ฅ A year ago, we had cloudy skies in the morning with more sun in the afternoon. The high last year was 48 degrees. The record high of 86 was set in 1922. 5.7 inches of snow fell back in 1961.โ„

I am thinking about going hiking somewhere in Rennselear County, ๐Ÿƒ‍โ™€๏ธ but where I do not know. The Taconic Crest trail sort of appeals to me but it’s a bit of a drive and I’m not sure if I want to go that far from home. I also not getting a very early start this morning, because I’ve been thinking a lot about what I want to talk about in counseling next week. ๐Ÿ’ญ It’s going to be rather hot with the sun out today, and I’m more of an afternoon person on the weekends when I don’t have to get.  ๐Ÿ•ถ

Solar noon ๐ŸŒž is at 12:57 pm with sun having an altitude of 55.5° from the due south horizon (-15.4° vs. 6/21). A six foot person will cast a 4.1 foot shadow today compared to 2.2 feet on the first day of summer. The golden hour ๐Ÿ… starts at 6:54 pm with the sun in the west (276°). ๐Ÿ“ธ The sunset is in the west-northwest (282°) with the sun dropping below the horizon at 7:32 pm after setting for 2 minutes and 57 seconds with dusk around 8:00 pm, which is one minute and 9 seconds later than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ‡ The best time to look at the stars is after 8:36 pm.

At sunset, look for mostly clear skies ๐ŸŒ„ and temperatures around 70 degrees. The dew point will be 50 degrees. There will be a south breeze at 8 mph. Today will have 13 hours and 10 minutes of daytime, an increase of 2 minutes and 49 seconds over yesterday.

Tonight will have increasing clouds โ˜, with a low of 51 degrees at 5am. 15 degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical night around May 27th. Maximum dew point of 52 at 8pm. South wind 6 to 8 mph. In 2020, we had mostly clear skies in the evening, which became cloudy by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 32 degrees. The record low of 20 occurred back in 1874.

As previously noted, there are 3 weeks until May ๐Ÿ•Š when the sun will be setting at 7:55 pm with dusk at 8:26 pm. On that day in 2020, we had rain showers, partly sunny and temperatures between 61 and 49 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 65 degrees. We hit a record high of 86 back in 2001.

Crane Pond 2

April 9, 2021 Morning

Good morning! Today has the 7:30 PM Sunset ๐ŸŒ‡ . Four weeks to 8 PM Sunset ๐ŸŒ‡ . Summer is coming. Or so I tell myself. Actually if summer didn’t come it would rather bad thing as it would mean the universe had imploded and earth ๐ŸŒŽ was no longer rotating around the sun. Mostly sunny and 48 degrees in Delmar, NY. ๐ŸŒ… There is a south-southeast breeze at 6 mph. ๐Ÿƒ.

Decided it was such a nice day, I would go for my morning walk ๐Ÿšถ๐Ÿป a bit earlier than normal and then maybe have some breakfast out back. ๐Ÿณ I should cook up some of those eggs I bought the other day at the store ๐Ÿฌ. Then get down to work with my laptop. It’s such a nice morning, I am considering going down to the Henry Hudson Park and working down at the river this morning then going shopping at lunch time, although I have a 1 PM meeting today, so things will be a bit collapsed for time if I want to go shopping at lunch time. ๐Ÿ‘

Today will have increasing clouds โ˜, with a high of 70 degrees at 3pm. 15 degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical day around May 16th. South wind 6 to 9 mph. But first a lot of sun. โ˜€๏ธ A year ago, we had cloudy skies in the morning, which became mostly sunny by afternoon. The high last year was 51 degrees. The record high of 77 was set in 1991. 13.3 inches of snow fell back in 2000.โ„

Solar noon ๐ŸŒž is at 12:58 pm with sun having an altitude of 55.1° from the due south horizon (-15.7° vs. 6/21). A six foot person will cast a 4.2 foot shadow today compared to 2.2 feet on the first day of summer. The golden hour ๐Ÿ… starts at 6:53 pm with the sun in the west (275°). ๐Ÿ“ธ The sunset is in the west-northwest (281°) with the sun dropping below the horizon at 7:31 pm after setting for 2 minutes and 57 seconds with dusk around 7:59 pm, which is one minute and 8 seconds later than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ‡ The best time to look at the stars is after 8:34 pm. At sunset, look for possible rain showers ๐ŸŒง and temperatures around 65 degrees. There will be a south breeze at 8 mph. Today will have 13 hours and 7 minutes of daytime, an increase of 2 minutes and 49 seconds over yesterday.

Yesterday the door ๐Ÿšช got fixed at my apartment, well sort of, the landlord trued up the door somewhat and glued it back together. Still doesn’t latch perfectly and the door got jammed shut but this morning after spraying the latch with a shit ton of WD-40, things seem better if not a lot more greasy and smelly. ๐Ÿ›  Seems to work okay now. I should look at getting some weatherstripping to put around the door before next winter — I added some last fall but it didn’t fit well and installation in cold meant it didn’t stick well, and it wasn’t think enough for the door jam. But I guess that’s fine, the door has a different fit now completely, after re-truing of the door.

After many hours of cold calling ๐Ÿ‘ฅ therapists in my provider’s list, I was able to find one I could meet with next week. Seemed like a quirky but nice guy for sure. Should be an interesting experience, and hopefully it will give me some more insight into my thought process, maybe cool my heals a bit ๐Ÿ‘ข and become more successful at my career, ๐Ÿ’ธ so I can make more money, and get closer to owning my own land. It took a lot of calls, it’s scary kind of navigating the system, probably not great especially for shy people looking for somebody to talk to. ๐Ÿ”Š I’m kind of hoping this will be a new start in life, towards a more prosperous future. Same day as my COVID-19 shot, ๐Ÿ’‰ so hopefully I won’t be too out of it.

Tonight will have a slight chance of showers before 11pm. Mostly cloudy ๐ŸŒง, with a low of 49 degrees at 6am. 14 degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical night around May 21st. South wind around 7 mph. Chance of precipitation is 20%. In 2020, we had mostly clear skies in the evening, which became cloudy by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 37 degrees. The record low of 21 occurred back in 1974.

Tomorrow will be mostly sunny ๐ŸŒž, with a high of 76 degrees at 4pm. 20 degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical day around June 7th. Maximum dew point of 48 at 12pm. South wind 5 to 8 mph. A year ago, we had cloudy skies in the morning, which became mostly sunny by afternoon. The high last year was 48 degrees. The record high of 86 was set in 1922. 5.7 inches of snow fell back in 1961.โ„

It sounds like a delightful day to spend out in the woods tomorrow ๐ŸŽ„ hiking and exploring. I am thinking somewhere in Rensselear County, maybe some of the Taconic Crest trail but I’m a bit undecided. If I go out there, I might want to have my microspikes, ๐ŸŽฟ lest things be really icy on the trail. I really like the views from up that way and it’s a nice trip. ๐Ÿšถ I could also look at Grafton Lakes or somewhere closer. It would be nice to wear shorts, but I don’t dare while I’m hiking as I don’t want to get covered with ticks. ๐Ÿ‘– I should spray my jeans tonight with permethrin.

Looking ahead to Sunday, showers likely, mainly after 8am. Cloudy, with a high near 63. โ˜” Southeast wind 6 to 9 mph. Chance of precipitation is 70%. New precipitation amounts between a quarter and half of an inch possible. Maximum dew point of 55 at 12pm. We need that rain. ๐ŸŒฆ Typical average high for the weekend is 56 degrees.

I don’t have big plans for Sunday ๐Ÿฝ but I’ll probably do Sunday dinner at the folks house. โ˜” Hoping for more rain then less, as we could certainly use it and I’m planning on taking off next Friday to go the Adirondacks and I don’t want things to be bone dry if I have a fire up north, which most certainly are likely to have.

Looking ahead, there are 4 weeks until 8 PM Sunset ๐ŸŒ‡ when the sun will be setting at 8:02 pm with dusk at 8:33 pm. On that day in 2020, we had partly sunny, rain showers and temperatures between 65 and 43 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 67 degrees. We hit a record high of 92 back in 1930.

Houses and Farms

April 7, 2021 – Looking Ahead This Week

The rest of this week should continue to have mild weather that will be reminding you more of mid-May then the second week of April. Lots of sun and dry, though the long range for next week suggested continued cooler weather and rainy then. Which is good, as we kind of need some rain as things are a bit dry for early spring, increasing the fire danger.
