June 24, 2019 Morning

Good morning! Happy Latest Sunset of the Year tonight ๐ŸŒ†! Yeap it’s summer. I’ve traded in the suit and tie for a t shirt and shorts.๐Ÿ‘š Climate change means they don’t require long pants at work during the summer. Next Monday is July ๐ŸŠ๐Ÿฟ. Mostly sunny and 66 degrees in Delmar, NY. Calm wind. The dew point is 55 degrees. Another nice summer day, probably cruel and unusual punishment to be required to work today but the air conditioning is nice on the bus.

It was a nice weekend but much too short probably because I spent so much time late into the nights looking at the starry skies. ๐ŸŒƒ It’s funny how when you stay up until 12:30 am each night and then spend half of the day swinging in the hammock drinking cold beer ๐Ÿป that the day disappears. Paddling out on Lake Pleasant was quite nice yesterday, as it was incredibly calm and not a lot of power boat traffic and the water levels in the Sacandaga River were high enough for good paddling too. ๐ŸŠ Water in Lake Pleasant in the beach though was pretty cold.

I went out Sunday evening to my parents house for Sunday dinner, and then stayed out overnight. ๐ŸŒฎ They made up tacos which were pretty good, despite not getting their until relatively late because I didn’t leave the Adirondacks quite on time. I did my wash out there, ๐Ÿ‘• and slept over in my truck cap.

To test out the electrical system, I left the accessory system including the CB radio/phone entirely on the solar yesterday, and even plugged in my laptop this morning for a while to charge. I dropped the battery voltage down to about 12.5 volts or about 20% discharge, after running the laptop which shows you how much energy it can store.๐Ÿ”‹ Certainly had no problem with the load from the laptop. The solar had pulled the battery voltage up to 13.0 volts by the time I left for work, and I expect once the sun angle increases, it will be up to 14.5 volts and putting out over 60 watts of power. Not bad for a small system used for camp power. After seven years, I think I’ve worked out most of the kinks in the system.

Today will be mostly sunny ๐ŸŒž, with a high of 83 degrees at 4pm. Three degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical day around July 13th. Maximum dew point of 57 at 11am.ย  This will probably be the most pleasant day of the week — more head and humidity is expected to bake in for the second half of the week. ๐Ÿ– Light and variable wind. A year ago, we had mostly sunny skies in the morning, which became mostly sunny by afternoon. It was humid. The high last year was 76 degrees. The record high of 96 was set in 1943.

The sun will set at 8:37 pm with dusk around 9:12 pm, which is 6 seconds later than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ‡ Latest sunset of the year. At sunset, look for partly cloudy skies ๐ŸŒƒ and temperatures around 76 degrees. The dew point will be 55 degrees. There will be a calm wind. Today will have 15 hours and 18 minutes of daytime, an increase of 13 seconds over yesterday.

Tonight I would like to take apart the camp stove, ๐Ÿณ and find out where the gas leak is in one of the burners, that melted a hole in surface of my my table. I am hoping it’s just a loose connection internally but if I have to replace a part, I’m sure I can get it online. I had noticed the gas leak one of the first time I went camping, but lately the leak has gotten to the point where there is a lot of flame and heat ๐Ÿ”ฅ is occurring under the stove, which isn’t good. Doesn’t look like it will be too hard to repair. The hole in the table — only the surface — also shouldn’t big of a deal to patch — I’m thinking something like Bondo for plastic work would work. I don’t care about the table looking nice, as it’s already scratched up, and if I wanted something fancy, I’d throw a table cloth on it, but I don’t want to have a hole in where it could collect water and mud.

Tonight will have a chance of showers, mainly after 2am. Mostly cloudy ๐ŸŒง, with a low of 66 degrees at 4am. Seven degrees above normal. Maximum dew point of 62 at 4am. Light southeast wind. Chance of precipitation is 30%. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch possible. In 2018, we had light rain in the evening, which became mostly clear by the early hours of the morning. It was somewhat humid. It got down to 55 degrees. The record low of 45 occurred back in 1982.

I have a rather busy week ahead. Tuesday I am heading over to John Wolcott’s house ๐Ÿ” then I have to vote.โœ… I hadn’t decided for sure who I want to vote for in the primary — for the most part I don’t care that much — but I still think I should stop by the library after going to John’s house to vote. At some point I also need to get to the store, because over the weekend I only bought cookies and paper towels when heading up to camp, and I need to get some bondo or other material to patch the hole in the table. Thursday I am leading the Save the Pine Bush hike.

This weekend’s forecast might be decent, but look for unstable weather on Saturday. โ›ˆ Saturday, a chance of showers and thunderstorms. Partly sunny, with a high near 80. Chance of precipitation is 50%. Maximum dew point of 64 at 7am. Sunday, a chance of showers. Partly sunny, with a high near 76. Chance of precipitation is 30%. Maximum dew point of 59 at 6am. Typical average high for the weekend is 81 degrees. Not sure if I’m going to head out of town, but if it turns out to be nice I may head out Mine Kill and spend an overnight camping. But first I want to fix the stove.

As previously noted, next Monday is July ๐ŸŠ๐Ÿฟ when the sun will be setting at 8:36 pm with dusk at 9:11 pm. On that day in 2018, we had hot, humid, mostly sunny and temperatures between 97 and 72 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 81 degrees. We hit a record high of 99 back in 1913.

Sunset over the Hudson

June 19, 2019 Morning

Good morning! Happy Last Day of Session ๐Ÿ›! Or so the sign in my bedroom says which is only as intelligent as my programming makes it. I wonder what happens when the session countdown rolls over tomorrow, โณI doubt it will cause a buffer overflow and crash but it might roll over and display a random value for days remaining.

Cloudy, muggy and 67 degrees in Delmar, NY. โ˜ Calm wind. The dew point is 63 degrees. Hello muggy weather, welcome back to Albany. Please don’t delay on your departure. That’s a reference to the humidity to be clear. ๐Ÿ˜‚ The skies will clear Friday around 3 pm. Less humid for the weekend or so I’m told.

Yesterday was a long day at work. ๐Ÿข Got in at nine, left at eleven pm. In the evening I did run home and get Big Red and I was able to drive home right at eleven and be in bed by 11:30 after finishing off the bottle of Finger Lakes wine ๐Ÿท that I got from Finger Lakes wino day at the well of the LOB. I’m not much of wine drinking redneck but it was free alcohol. I just hate how much room those bottles take up in the recycling bin as that means eventually another trip to the transfer station. โ™ป Discovered that I had spilled stuff on my jacket this morning after I got on the bus ๐Ÿš but I have another jacket in the office to wear over at session. ๐Ÿ‘”Nine am session so I took the early bus into the city.

Today will have a chance of showers, with thunderstorms also possible after 1pm. Mostly cloudy ๐ŸŒฆ, with a high of 81 degrees at 3pm. Two degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical day around June 26th. Maximum dew point of 66 at 6pm. South wind 3 to 7 mph. Chance of precipitation is 40%. New rainfall amounts of less than a tenth of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms. A year ago, we had mostly sunny skies. The high last year was 83 degrees. The record high of 94 was set in 1995.

The sun will set at 8:36 pm with dusk around 9:11 pm, which is 16 seconds later than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ‡ At sunset, look for rain ๐ŸŒง and thunderstorms ๐ŸŒฉ and temperatures around 74 degrees. The dew point will be 65 degrees. There will be a south breeze at 5 mph. Today will have 15 hours and 18 minutes of daytime, an increase of 6 seconds over yesterday.

Tonight will have a chance of showers and thunderstorms. Patchy fog after 2am. Otherwise, mostly cloudy ๐ŸŒง, with a low of 66 degrees at 5am. Eight degrees above normal. Maximum dew point of 66 at 6pm. South wind around 5 mph becoming calm after midnight. Chance of precipitation is 40%. New precipitation amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms. In 2018, we had mostly clear skies in the evening, which became cloudy by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 56 degrees. The record low of 43 occurred back in 1918.

A picture perfect weekend to kick off our summer. ๐Ÿ˜Ž What a refreshing change? Saturday, sunny, with a high near 76. Maximum dew point of 52 at 8pm. Sunday, sunny, with a high near 81. Maximum dew point of 58 at 8pm. Typical average high for the weekend is 80 degrees. Might even be a bit cold for swimming ๐ŸŠ?

I would like to get up to the Adirondacks โ›บ but at this point I don’t think it’s a realistic option. I’m just not going to get packed and ready for the weekend. But an overnight trip to Schoharie and the Mine Kill pool with some fishing ๐ŸŽฃ and day hiking is a good alternative.

Looking ahead, there are 8 weeks until Altamont Fair Opens ๐ŸŽก when the sun will be setting at 7:58 pm with dusk at 8:28 pm. On that day in 2018, we had humid, partly sunny, rain showers and temperatures between 85 and 71 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 81 degrees. We hit a record high of 97 back in 1988.

A first draft of what my dream home would look like [Expires March 16 2024]

June 17, 2019 Night

Good evening! Partly clear and 70 degrees in Delmar, NY. Calm wind. The dew point is 56 degrees. ๐ŸŒƒ Long day at work, but now I’m on the way home on the nine forty five pm bus. I will probably retire to bed shortly after getting home, although it’s nice enough, I could sit out back for a while. I’ll have to think about it a bit, because I’m sure tomorrow will be another long day at work. ๐Ÿ˜ด

Summer must be coming. The late night buses are filled with tired men and women in suits and the arterial highways are congested late into the evening. ๐Ÿš So it goes. Step by step the clock moves forward. Just run out another year, it’s been an adventure, but I think it’s been a good results oriented year, despite more gray hair popping up and the markets at best being moderate. โณ Looking forward to summer and more camping. โ›บ

Tonight will be mostly cloudy ๐ŸŒฅ, with a low of 59 degrees at 5am. Two degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical night around June 22nd. Maximum dew point of 57 at 10pm. Calm wind. In 2018, we had mostly clear skies. It became sticky as the night progressed. It got down to 71 degrees. The record low of 39 occurred back in 1958.

Tonight will have a Waning Gibbous Moon ๐ŸŒ– with 96% illuminated. The moon will set at 6:21 am. The Last Quarter Moon is next Monday with scattered showers. The Buck Moon ๐ŸŒ is in 4 weeks. Buck yeah! Sorry, I had to. Should be nice whole I’m on vacation. The sun will rise at 5:17 am with the first light at 4:42 am, which is 6 seconds later than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ„ Tonight will have 8 hours and 41 minutes of darkness, a decrease of 14 seconds over last night.

Tomorrow will have isolated showers. Mostly cloudy ๐ŸŒฆ, with a high of 77 degrees at 4pm. Two degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical day around June 13th. Maximum dew point of 62 at 6pm. Light and variable wind. Chance of precipitation is 20%. A year ago, we had mostly sunny skies. The high last year was 97 degrees. The record high of 97 was set in 2018.

A picture perfect weekend on tap for the first weekend of summer. ๐Ÿ˜Ž Saturday, sunny, with a high near 77. Maximum dew point of 55 at 7pm. Sunday, mostly sunny, with a high near 79. Maximum dew point of 59 at 7pm. Typical average high for the weekend is 80 degrees.

I’m definitely looking forward to getting out of town this weekend. โ›บ Only time will define where I go but I look forward to leaving the city behind for the wilderness. ๐ŸŒฒIt will be warm and sunny, I’ll have to wear sunscreen so I don’t get too burnt from the sun. ๐Ÿ˜Ž Then the days will start getting shorter but before then there is still many more summer days to enjoy. ๐ŸŠ

In four weeks on July 15 the sun will be setting at 8:31 pm,๐ŸŒ„ which is 4 minutes and 35 seconds earlier then tonight. In 2018 on that day, we had hot, humid, partly sunny, rain showers and temperatures between 93 and 72 degrees. Typically, you have temperatures between 83 and 62 degrees. The record high of 96 degrees was set back in 1997.

Looking ahead, Latest Sunset ๐ŸŒ† is in 1 weeks, July ๐ŸŠ๐Ÿฟ is in 2 weeks, Cow Appreciation Day ๐Ÿ‚ is in 4 weeks, Last Sunset After 8 PM ๐ŸŒ† is in 8 weeks, Labor Day ๐Ÿ‘จโ€๐Ÿญ is in 11 weeks, Constitution Day ๐Ÿ“œ is in 3 months and Columbus Day ๐Ÿ›ฅ๏ธ is in 16 weeks.

Flow in Summer Stream

June 15, 2019 Afternoon

Good afternoon! Mostly cloudy and 83 degrees in Delmar, NY. Light breeze from the south west, almost feels a bit hot and humid๐Ÿ’จ. The dew point is 55 degrees. The morning was beautiful, but it wans’t bound to last. There are already some showers starting to pop up on the radar, and the sky gotten pretty dark. So much for the 78 watts my solar panel was putting out on the truck earlier this morning, until things got put into float mode.

So the big project for day was getting the second accessory battery hooked up to the low-voltage disconnect from the bed. Previously, it was hooked into the bus bar that runs all of the accessories in bed of the truck, but I wanted to make sure I had undervoltage protection on the battery, especially because the other accessory battery already had that and unbalanced batteries like that could be dangerous or at least bad for the life of the batteries. ๐Ÿ”‹ I also cleaned up the wiring in the cab of my truck for accessories, including adding an always on USB outlet for charging things like my USB battery bank, or even my laptop.

It’s now wired for 30 amp, so I have plenty of power for even charging the laptop there, and it’s conveniently located under the driver seat, and doesn’t shut off when the truck is off. I had to move some of the components around — name swap the places of the low voltage disconnect and the solar charger to make the wiring fit, a had to go to Advance Auto to buy a few butt connectors, shrink wrap, romex cable protectors, and then to the Hardware store to get a drill. Sure, there goes another 20 bucks, but I was good this weekend, I stayed in town, although this morning, I kind of wish I had headed out of town because it was so nice — but it’s become cloudy now and rain, so I’m not missing much.๐ŸŒ„

That said, I think the feature I like best in that voltage/amperage/power meter I got last autumn but didn’t wire up until now. I actually got two — only are using one right now though. It’s pretty cool how it not only shows you the voltage but also the amperage, and does the math for the wattage and total power produced (in watt hours or kilowatt hours) โž•โž–โž—. Works with a 50 amp shunt, which I got as a package from China last October on AliExpress. I’m a big fan of AliExpress for small electronic stuff like that — if you can wait, you can save a lot of money ordering direct from the factory in China — and umm, not pay sales tax. I doubt the People’s Republic of China will tell the People’s Democrat of New York about the $10 gadget I bought without tax.ย  Why be sneaky when your going to post it on the Internet?

Tonight will have showers, mainly after 11pm. ๐ŸŒง Low of 63 degrees at 6am. Six degrees above normal. Maximum dew point of 58 at 5am. ๐Ÿ–๏ธ South wind 5 to 13 mph. Chance of precipitation is 80%. New precipitation amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch possible. In 2018, we had mostly clear skies. It got down to 50 degrees. The record low of 40 occurred back in 1961.

The sun will set at 8:35 pm with dusk around 9:09 pm, which is 25 seconds later than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ‡ At sunset, look for rain showers ๐ŸŒง and temperatures around 72 degrees. The dew point will be 54 degrees. There will be a south-southwest breeze at 9 mph. Today will have 15 hours and 18 minutes of daytime, an increase of 24 seconds over yesterday.

Tomorrow will have showers likely, with thunderstorms also possible after 2pm. Cloudy ๐ŸŒฆ, with a high of 73 degrees at 4pm. Five degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical day around May 30th. Maximum dew point of 64 at 2pm. South wind around 8 mph. Chance of precipitation is 70%. New rainfall amounts between a quarter and half of an inch possible. A year ago, we had partly cloudy skies in the morning with some clearing in the afternoon. The high last year was 84 degrees. The record high of 96 was set in 1967.

I decided against getting a USB flashlight. I have plenty of flashlights already. I might instead get a battery charger like this oneย and pick up some rechargable nickle metal halide batteries at Walmart. I think it’s pretty cool that those smart chargers not only can do Ni-MH or the newer 18650 LiOn batteries. But then again. it’s not exactly rocket science, just a microprocessor and transistor with PWM that cuts or reduces output as the battery gets close to full charge.

On this day in 1967, The People’s Republic of China tests its first hydrogen bomb. It would be one of the world’s few powers with access to the devestatingly powerful hydrogen bombs.๐Ÿ’ฃ Now everybody except Trump likes inexpensive things you can get on AliExpress in like four weeks, which are fun for the many projects you can build.๐Ÿ“Ÿ

As previously noted, next Saturday is Average High is 80 ๐Ÿ– when the sun will be setting at 8:37 pm with dusk at 9:11 pm. On that day in 2018, we had partly sunny and temperatures between 81 and 50 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 80 degrees. We hit a record high of 95 back in 1954.

Schoharie Valley

June 14, 2019 Morning

Good morning! Happy Flag Day ๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ! I have my stars and stripes flying today. I’m just hoping we don’t get bad weather and it blows loose. Three weeks to Dog Days ๐Ÿถ of Summer ๐ŸŒป. Partly cloudy with some more clouds and possibly rain showers pushing in and 61 degrees in Delmar, NY. โ›… I didn’t bring an umbrella but I caught the earlier bus in to hopefully avoid the rain. โ˜” Plus, I need to find room in the other unit’s refrigerator because ours is broken to keep lunch and dinner cold on this most long of work days. Summer is coming. There is a south-southwest breeze at 8 mph. ๐Ÿƒ. The dew point is 52 degrees. The skies will clear around 5 pm.

Today will have a chance of showers, mainly between 10am and 2pm. Mostly cloudy ๐ŸŒฆ, with a high of 67 degrees at 3pm. 11 degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical day around May 9th. Maximum dew point of 52 at 8am. South wind 8 to 16 mph becoming west in the afternoon. Winds could gust as high as 28 mph. Chance of precipitation is 30%. Another cool day on tap. A year ago, we had cloudy skies. The high last year was 73 degrees. The record high of 96 was set in 1892.

It should be a busy day at work ๐Ÿ’ผ but hopefully this will make the day go by quickly as it often does and the weekend will arrive. Then one more week of session and then hopefully it will be summertime and I can spend a bunch of nights in the wilderness and by the pool. ๐ŸŠ

The sun will set at 8:34 pm with dusk around 9:09 pm, which is 26 seconds later than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ‡ At sunset, look for partly clear skies ๐ŸŒ„ and temperatures around 61 degrees. The dew point will be 50 degrees. There will be a west breeze at 9 mph. Today will have 15 hours and 17 minutes of daytime, an increase of 27 seconds over yesterday.

Tonight will be partly cloudy ๐ŸŒค, with a low of 54 degrees at 3am. Three degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical night around June 8th. Maximum dew point of 50 at 8pm. Southwest wind 5 to 9 mph. In 2018, we had partly cloudy skies. It got down to 56 degrees. The record low of 42 occurred back in 1985.

As previously noted, there are 3 weeks until Dog Days of Summer ๐ŸŒป when the sun will be setting at 8:36 pm with dusk at 9:10 pm. On that day in 2018, we had hot, humid, mostly sunny, thunderstorm and temperatures between 92 and 75 degrees. What do you expect for the Dog Days of Summer? ๐Ÿถ Typically, the high temperature is 82 degrees. We hit a record high of 99 back in 1919.

And if that’s not enough – that’s when I’m planning to start the summer vacation – Labor Day Weekend is only 11 weeks away. โ›ต Summer comes and goes so quickly but I expect a relatively quiet autumn, and in recent years autumn had been quite mild. But first I’m looking forward to some hot summer days at the beach.

West Branch of East Canada Creek

June 13, 2019 Night

Good evening! Partly to mostly cloudy and 57 degrees in Delmar, NY. โ˜ There is a south-southeast breeze at 6 mph. ๐Ÿƒ. The dew point is 52 degrees. We had some breaks in the clouds but now it’s gotten fairly overcast again.

Tonight marks one week until summer โ˜€ and hopefully the legislative session will be done, I’ll be home by five o’clock and can enjoy evenings in the park and weekends in the wilderness. I think I do a good job at the sometimes challenging aspects of my job but I look forward to a relatively quiet summer at work without wearing a suit and tie. ๐Ÿ˜Ž Not that I wear a suit, just a blazer. I’m not into being super swanky.

I was feeling pretty good today but the headache and aching returned a bit tonight. ๐Ÿ˜– Not terrible and I did go for my evening walk. That said I hope this doesn’t last all summer. If it gets worse I tell myself I’ll have to visit the doctor. Crickets are doing their things, rumble from the rail yard, it’s actually a bit cool out back. Getting late, I should head in soon.

They ordered dinner for us at work today, so which was good because the refrigerator at work quit working so I think my dinner might have spoiled. ๐Ÿฒ I did move it to the other refrigerator at work and brought it home and into the freezer. I’ll give it the sniff test and decide if it’s compost or dinner over the weekend. Got done with work in time to catch the 8:15 bus home, which was an enormous articulated bus. ๐Ÿš„ What a waste in my book, the enormous bus was virtually empty.

Tonight will have a chance of showers, mainly after 11pm. Mostly cloudy ๐ŸŒง, with a low of 52 degrees at 4am. Four degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical night around June 1st. Maximum dew point of 52 at 10pm. South wind 6 to 8 mph. Chance of precipitation is 30%. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch possible. In 2018, we had mostly clear skies in the evening, which became cloudy by the early hours of the morning. It was somewhat humid. It got down to 60 degrees. The record low of 39 occurred back in 1970.

Tonight will have a Waxing Gibbous Moon ๐ŸŒ” with 94% illuminated. The moon will set at 3:38 am. The Strawberry Moon ๐Ÿ“ is on Sunday night with a chance of showers. The sun will rise at 5:16 am with the first light at 4:42 am, which is 3 seconds earlier than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ„ Tonight will have 8 hours and 42 minutes of darkness, a decrease of 29 seconds over last night.

Tomorrow will have a chance of showers and thunderstorms. Mostly cloudy ๐ŸŒฆ, with a high of 67 degrees at 12pm. 11 degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical day around May 9th. Another cool day. Maximum dew point of 52 at 7am. South wind 8 to 17 mph becoming west in the morning. Winds could gust as high as 33 mph. Chance of precipitation is 40%. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms. A year ago, we had mostly sunny skies. It became humid as the day progressed. The high last year was 73 degrees. The record high of 96 was set in 1892.

Saturday might be okay ๐Ÿ‘Œ but I’m not thinking it will be a real nice weekend. Saturday, partly sunny, with a high near 79. South wind 7 to 15 mph. Maximum dew point of 54 at 8pm. โ›… Sunday, showers likely and possibly a thunderstorm before 8am, then a chance of showers and thunderstorms between 8am and 2pm, then showers likely and possibly a thunderstorm after 2pm. โ˜” Mostly cloudy, with a high near 78. Chance of precipitation is 60%. New rainfall amounts between a quarter and half of an inch possible. Maximum dew point of 66 at 4pm. Typical average high for the weekend is 78 degrees.

I doubt I’ll be working this weekend ๐Ÿข but tomorrow could be a fairly late night at work. I’m not going to drive in but I can always get my truck later on if necessary. I doubt it though, I think they’ll move through the agreed ๐Ÿ‘ upon rent bills pretty much in the daylight. There are some decent protection for upstate renters in there. I know as long as I live in New York, I’ll rent a small apartment and take transit to work. ๐Ÿก

Maybe for ten more years, although I guess staying with the state until age 55 is financially sensible ๐Ÿ’ต but I also want to get on with the rest of my life. It all depends on how much longer I have family locally – my parents are getting up there in the years and I don’t have really any other relatives locally. I’d like to live some place cheaper than New York in state with more freedom, off grid in a cabin / hobby farm out in the country. ๐Ÿ‘ด I tell you, I’m already getting so gray and I don’t feel that old, even when I put the suit and tie on. ๐Ÿ‘”

I look at summer in the short term but I do dream about the future. ๐Ÿ”ฎ Camping on dirt roads is a lot of fun โ›บ as is kayaking fishing ๐ŸŽฃ and cooling off on the Potholers but I do dream of a world based on reality rather than escape. ๐ŸŒ I do watch too many hours of people making their lives homesteading and farming, living off grid, hunting and fishing, making a good life for themselves and their families. I hate the indignities of living in New York and the urban life but I’m saving for a better tomorrow.

I got the wire I need for connecting the second accessory battery ๐Ÿ”‹ to the proper side of the long voltage disconnect. This will protect it from under voltage โšก when camping. I also will wire up the solar panel gauge and always on USB ports for charging things like my flashlight ๐Ÿ”ฆ or portable USB battery bank. Then maybe go for a walk out to Five Rivers or some place I can walk ๐Ÿšถto on foot. Might need to pick up a few groceries next week, although not a lot.

In four weeks on July 11 the sun will be setting at 8:33 pm,๐ŸŒ„ which is 39 seconds earlier then tonight. Yeap, days will be getting shorter. I’ll probably be packing for my summer vacation then. In 2018 on that day, we had mostly sunny skies and temperatures between 83 and 63 degrees. Typically, you have temperatures between 82 and 61 degrees. The record high of 98 degrees was set back in 1936.

Looking ahead, Summer ๏ธโ›ฑ๏ธ is in 1 week, Independence Day ๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ is in 3 weeks, Hottest Time of the Year ๐Ÿ˜… is a month away, August ๐ŸŒป is in 7 weeks, Last Sunset After 7 PM ๐ŸŒ† is in 16 weeks and Average High is 60 ๐Ÿ‚ is in 4 months.

Mr. Sun

June 9, 2019 Night

Good evening! Partly clear and 71 degrees in Delmar, NY. There is a south breeze at 7 mph. ๐Ÿƒ. The dew point is 48 degrees.

So far this is the most pleasant evening of the year for sitting out back. ๐ŸŽ‘Not too hot or cold and lots of moonlight while I watch a mixture of artificial and real fireflies outback. Maybe I’m stupid but I sure like watching those laser light fireflies. I didn’t see any ground fireworks at Walmart but they must be selling them as I’m hearing occasional bangs around. Not that lighting off fireworks is an appropriate activity in the suburbs but America. ๐ŸŽ‡ Crickets are chirping as is a very noisy heat pump groaning from the high end apartment down the road.

Everything on my list got done this weekend ๐Ÿ“ƒ. Well except maybe for working on John Wolcott’s history project but I’ve put in a lot of time in that so it can wait a few weeks until I have more free time besides work. The truck got washed ๐Ÿ›€ , groceries bought. Including a a special treat for the hot weather – orange juice. ๐ŸŠI get that orange juice is super sugary but it’s better than drinking beer or eating too much ice cream. I also try to drink lots of water with a drop of lemon juice or cider vinegar.

I also bought more drain solvent and my bathroom sink is working again for now. ๐Ÿ˜Š All the plumbing in my relatively cheap apartment is problematic, plungers and drain solvent are just part of life. Shower gas never gone more than a week or two without needing the plunger as long as I’ve lived here for the decade plus. Maybe it’s because I’m so dirty always bringing mud in. Yet another reason I prefer outhouses and very simple plumbing. ๐Ÿšฝ

Tonight will be partly cloudy ๐ŸŒค, with a low of 51 degrees at 5am. Four degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical night around May 29th. Not surprising with the low humidity. But good sleeping at least for tonight Maximum dew point of 48 at 9pm. South wind 5 to 7 mph. In 2018, we had mostly clear skies in the evening, which became partly cloudy by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 54 degrees. The record low of 36 occurred back in 1975.

Tonight will have a First Quarter with 60% illuminated. The moon will set at 1:40 am. Little bit of haze around the moon though. The Strawberry Moon ๐ŸŒ is next Sunday. Been so cold and wet not many strawberry ๐Ÿ“ for sale yet. Or even daisies ๐ŸŒผ along the roadside. For you early risers, the sun will rise at 5:17 am with the first light at 4:42 am, which is 11 seconds earlier than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ„ I was watching a farm channel the other day, recorded at 5:30 in the morning and it was pretty bright out then. ๐Ÿ”† I really watch too much agriculture YouTube these days. But farming is such interesting business. Tonight will have 8 hours and 45 minutes of darkness, a decrease of 44 seconds over last night. Not going to loose much more night time from where we are now as summer is coming. And 15 weeks from today will be autumn. ๐Ÿ Even though the black flies are bad now in 12-14 weeks it will be peak color in the Moose River Plains.

Tomorrow will rain likely, mainly after 2pm. Increasing clouds ๐ŸŒง, with a high of 68 degrees at 11am. Nine degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical day around May 12th. Maximum dew point of 60 at 6pm. South wind 6 to 8 mph. Chance of precipitation is 70%. New precipitation amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch possible. A year ago, we had mostly sunny skies. The high last year was 78 degrees. The record high of 96 was set in 2008.

I will drop my truck off at the dealership tomorrow for the oil change and tire rotation. ๐Ÿš˜ Easy enough to do for sure, they’re the cheapest place around and I’m not lifting those 35 inch tires myself. Last oil change was in August because I drive so few miles during the winter. I do make sure though to keep the oil topped off when it is low. I used to do my own oil changes but it’s not worth the hassle. If I had my own land I might do it and it’s not a big deal on small engines or even tractors but it’s a pain crawling under my truck. I shouldn’t speak. I do remember that diasterous oil change on a $100,000 big John Deere farm tractor ๐Ÿšœ (bigger tractor than nearly any farmer in New York would use outside of the Genesee Valley) on Millennial MN Farmers YouTube with the filter they couldn’t get off except with a grinder and a tap and die. Instead tomorrow, I’ll just drop it off before work and take the bus downtown. Let the experts do it.

While it’s a long ways off, NOAA is pretty optimistic about the weekend. ๐Ÿ˜• Saturday, scattered showers. Partly sunny, with a high near 76. Chance of precipitation is 30%. Maximum dew point of 56 at 6pm. Sunday, partly sunny, with a high near 77. Maximum dew point of 57 at 11am. Typical average high for the weekend is 78 degrees.

If the weather is nice I may head up to the Adirondacks next weekend. ๐Ÿ—ป There is a possibility that I may have to work, physically in the office next weekend but I’m hoping that I can just camp somewhere I have cellphone ๐Ÿ“ฑ reception and just work from my phone with a cold beer in one hand, laying back in the hammock.

This week I’ll order the wire to run the hot from the battery in the bed of my truck directly to the non switched terminal of the low voltage disconnect โšก so it is protected from under voltage by the LVD. I’m also going to hook up the shunt and meter on the panel so that I can monitor how much solar power I’m producing. Also plan to hook up another always on USB outlet back there to keep my little battery I ordered fully charged so I can charge my phone when I’m backpacking or at a swimming pool. I really want to do at least some back country camping this summer. โ›บ Lean-to or hammock. So many damn wires but I try to keep them neat with ties and things are properly fused. I’m learning a lot and while the panels, batteries and inverters are much bigger for an off grid cabin, at some point I’ll be blessed by living out in the country again. ๐Ÿฎ

In four weeks on July 7 the sun will be setting at 8:35 pm,๐ŸŒ„ which is 3 minutes and 12 seconds later then tonight. In 2018 on that day, we had sunny skies and temperatures between 80 and 51 degrees. Typically, you have temperatures between 82 and 61 degrees. The record high of 97 degrees was set back in 1988.

Looking ahead, Fathers Day ๐Ÿ‘จ is in 1 week, National Nude Day ๐Ÿ‘ฑ is in 5 weeks (hopefully warm enough by then for skinny dipping), Sunset Before 7:30 PM ๐ŸŒ† is in 12 weeks, Autumn ๐Ÿ‚ is in 15 weeks and Average High is 60 ๐Ÿ‚ is in 18 weeks.
