The Friday before Memorial Day Weekend πŸ‡ΊπŸ‡Έ

And I’m so not rushing around to make sure I have everything packed so I can be eaten alive by the black flies while I struggle to find cell service so I can work. Or rolling out of Mayfield watching traffic queue three miles in the distance as people crawl towards Northville and I’m openly wondering if all the good campsites are taken. I’m sure there is a lot of summer and autumn left.

Good morning! Yeah, it’s Friday before Memorial Day Weekend! πŸ‡ΊπŸ‡Έ Sunny and 42 degrees in Delmar, NY. 🌞 Calm wind. An absolutely beautiful morning, although a bit cool for the morning walk.

These days with the early sunrise πŸŒ… I find it difficult to sleep much past five o’clock which is bad for the sleep 😴 as it’s also hard to get to bed before 9:30 or so after the evening walk 🚢. But I’m moving forward and I’m thinking eggs, tofu spinach and feta for breakfast this morning. 🍳 I’ve really been overdoing the sugar lately and eggs have an amazing staying power for the full day. πŸ’ͺ

Today will be sunny 🌞, with a high of 72 degrees at 5pm. Two degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical day around May 19th. Calm wind becoming north 5 to 7 mph in the morning. A year ago, we had mostly sunny skies. The high last year was 74 degrees. The record high of 94 was set in 2010. There was a dusting of snow in 1953.❄

Should be a pretty nice day. ☺ Yesterday wasn’t half bad, walked 11 Β½ miles had a good dinner with salmon, peppers, tomatoes and a lemon juice πŸ‹ topping. Work was busy but it’s exciting getting that new Census Housing Data for sure. πŸ–₯ That said, I had most depressing project to review yesterday πŸ“ but not everything can always be happy and fun when you are paid to review it.

Solar noon 🌞 is at 12:53 pm with sun having an altitude of 68.5Β° from the due south horizon (-2.3Β° vs. 6/21). A six foot person will cast a 2.4 foot shadow today compared to 2.2 feet on the first day of summer. The golden hour πŸ… starts at 7:40 pm with the sun in the west-northwest (293Β°). πŸ“Έ

Going to catch the earlier express bus 🚏🚌 in this morning so I can bring the Lupine Festival πŸ¦‹ display to my office 🏒 and hopefully bring it back to Lynne this afternoon. Then do some more walking 🚢 before getting down to work for the day. As I won’t be leaving right from work today to the Adirondacks I figure I won’t be guilty of such clock πŸ•’ watching today but it should still go by quickly as I expect to be quite busy.

The sunset is in the west-northwest (300Β°) with the sun dropping below the horizon at 8:22 pm after setting for 3 minutes and 20 seconds with dusk around 8:54 pm, which is 55 seconds later than yesterday. πŸŒ‡ At dusk you’ll see the First Quarter πŸŒ“ Moon in the southwest (234Β°) at an altitude of 52Β° from the horizon, 251,804 miles away. πŸš€ The best time to look at the stars is after 9:38 pm. At sunset, look for mostly clear skies πŸŒ„ and temperatures around 65 degrees. There will be a calm wind. Today will have 15 hours of daytime, an increase of one minute and 37 seconds over yesterday.

After work tonight I want to go to the library πŸ“š and get a book to read for the holiday weekend then run to Walmart after 8 pm after they restocked followed by Market32 for anything they don’t have. πŸ«‘πŸŽπŸŒΆοΈπŸ₯š Want to make sure to have lots of fresh fruits and vegetables for camping πŸ•.

Tonight will be mostly clear πŸŒƒ, with a low of 45 degrees at 5am. Seven degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical night around May 7th. Light and variable wind. In 2022, we had cloudy skies in the evening, which became mostly clear by the early hours of the morning. It became humid as the night progressed. It got down to 63 degrees. The record low of 30 occurred back in 1969.

The plan for tomorrow 🚲 is to work on the bicycle in the morning πŸ’» along with any other work that comes in tonight into the morning then go out and primatively hammock camp β›Ί in the back country as simply as possible doing all my cooking 🍳 over a fire with hiking 🚢, reading and nature observation during the day. Use a candle πŸ•― and the fire πŸ”₯ for light at night πŸŒƒ.

Tomorrow will be sunny 🌞, with a high of 79 degrees at 5pm. Five degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical day around June 12th. Calm wind. A year ago, we had mostly sunny skies. The high last year was 77 degrees. The record high of 94 was set in 1914.

Looking ahead to Sunday, sunny, with a high near 85. β˜€ Calm wind becoming west around 6 mph in the afternoon. Maximum dew point of 55 at 8pm. That will feel like summer. Typical average high for the weekend is 74 degrees.

And Memorial Day πŸ‡ΊπŸ‡Έ will be sunny β˜€ with a high of 87 degrees as the heat wave strengthens heading into the work week, even if Monday is a holiday. I’m sure it will be a long and busy work week next week, though maybe not so bad as Tuesday is the Assembly Majority picnic and Thursday is a get away day. Then that final hellish week and they will be gone. And then the recovery weekend for me spent with dad at the Gas Up. 🚜

The truth is I’m more focused on the following weekend, June 3-4 for more of a get out of town adventure β›ΊπŸ›ΆπŸŒ³πŸŒ² just because I know the woods will be quieter that weekend, the black flies less bad 🐜, water warmer, less traffic and likely less work for me. All a win – win assuming the warm weather doesn’t crap out by then. And of course, Juneteenth long weekend extended by a few extra days at the Potholers. πŸŠβ€β™‚οΈ

Looking ahead, there are 7 weeks until National Nude Day πŸ‘± when the sun will be setting at 8:33 pm with dusk at 9:06 pm. On that day in 2022, we had partly cloudy and temperatures between 85 and 65 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 84 degrees. We hit a record high of 99 back in 1995.

Brief Rainshower On A Hot Day

The Hump Day before Memorial Day Weekend, of course πŸͺ

Get away day for the legislature so I’ll be heading home at five o’clock again though the umbrella might be a good idea even if the thunderstorms are likely to be earlier this afternoon and an umbrella is little use in blustery downtown.

Good morning! Third gear, a lean right. Mostly cloudy and 55 degrees in Delmar, NY. πŸŒ₯ There is a south-southeast breeze at 7 mph. πŸƒ. The dew point is 45 degrees.

I’m up and going and I actually got to bed πŸ› only a little after nine 9⃣ last night but I woke up for a while and now my ass is dragging a bit but I’m going. I guess I need to eat more kale, lol. πŸ₯—I haven’t decided yet between oatmeal or heated oatmeal – banana 🍌 pancakes for breakfast, both are good options.

I was food journaling yesterday and while I’m doing good on most of the vitamins and fiber, 🍏 while keeping calories and fats within healthy levels, I’m now deficient on calcium and Vitamin D. The later is less of a problem in the summer with the sun β˜€ but I should go back to drinking a glass of skim milk πŸ₯› daily. I like dairy and could easily drink a half gallon a day but that’s way too much calories. Eating too much sugar, mostly from fresh or frozen fruit snacking throughout the day.

Halfway through the week at least by afternoon and no need to dress up the rest of week πŸ•΄οΈ which is good as I like walking down to the Park and Ride and not having to iron my shirts. I’m not going to be able to visit John this weekend but I still don’t think it’s a good weekend to go up north despite the rapidly improving forecast.

Today will have a slight chance of showers before 1pm, then a chance of showers and thunderstorms between 1pm and 3pm, then showers likely and possibly a thunderstorm after 3pm. Increasing clouds πŸŒžπŸ‘‰ 🌦️, with a high of 76 degrees at 1pm. Two degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical day around June 1st. Maximum dew point of 58 at 2pm. South wind around 8 mph. Chance of precipitation is 60%. New rainfall amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms. A year ago, we had mostly sunny skies in the morning, remaining cloudy in the afternoon. The high last year was 72 degrees. The record high of 92 was set in 1964.

Solar noon 🌞 is at 12:53 pm with sun having an altitude of 68.1Β° from the due south horizon (-2.7Β° vs. 6/21). A six foot person will cast a 2.4 foot shadow today compared to 2.2 feet on the first day of summer. The golden hour πŸ… starts at 7:39 pm with the sun in the west-northwest (293Β°). πŸ“Έ

I got more cranberry beans soaking in the fridge today, and plan to cook a seperate pot of brown rice 🍚 and lentils as I’m almost out again after today’s lunch. Probably tomorrow before work. 🍲 Beans are a great source of protein and fiber.

The sunset is in the west-northwest (300Β°) with the sun dropping below the horizon at 8:20 pm after setting for 3 minutes and 19 seconds with dusk around 8:52 pm, which is 57 seconds later than yesterday. πŸŒ‡ At dusk you’ll see the First Quarter πŸŒ“ Moon in the west (263Β°) at an altitude of 43Β° from the horizon, 252,046 miles away. πŸš€ The best time to look at the stars is after 9:35 pm. At sunset, look for rain 🌧 and temperatures around 56 degrees. The dew point will be 48 degrees. Breezy, 16 mph breeze β›… from the north-northeast. Today will have 14 hours and 57 minutes of daytime, an increase of one minute and 43 seconds over yesterday.

Tonight will have a chance of showers and thunderstorms before 8pm, then a slight chance of showers between 8pm and 9pm. Mostly cloudy, then gradually becoming mostly clear 🌧, with a low of 40 degrees at 6am. 11 degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical night around April 24th. North wind 9 to 16 mph. Chance of precipitation is 30%. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms. In 2022, we had mostly clear skies. It got down to 55 degrees. The record low of 30 occurred back in 1956.

A picture perfect Memorial Day Weekend on tap. 😎 Saturday, sunny, with a high near 78. Maximum dew point of 51 at 8pm. Sunday, mostly sunny, with a high near 84. Maximum dew point of 55 at 8pm. Memorial Day, sunny and a high of 87. Summer like. Typical average high for weekend is 74 degrees.

While I’m not going to be able to see John this weekend and I’m not sure about the work load, πŸ“ I am leaning towards hammock camping really primatively Saturday through Monday, two nights. β›Ί That means candles for light, sleep in the hammock, especially if I can get a bug net, cooking over an open fire. πŸ”₯ I can prepare and proportion out food in advance so I don’t have to be carrying in and out food after every meal 🍴. Going to be the first summer like weekend of the year.

Looking ahead, there are 4 weeks until Summer ️⛱️ when the sun will be setting at 8:38 pm with dusk at 9:11 pm. On that day in 2022, we had partly cloudy, rain showers and temperatures between 70 and 51 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 81 degrees. We hit a record high of 97 back in 1938.

 State Workers

As the transit advertising used to say before the pandemic, Green Means Go. 🚦

Monday, Monday. Hitting the go button is always difficult after a busy weekend. And so it comes around again as it always does. The one upside is a we are a week closer to summer and session wrapping up, and it’s not a election year.

Good morning! Monday’s come back around again. Only two more session weeks after today. Mostly sunny with gray to the west from the wildfire smoke and 51 degrees in Delmar for the morning walk. β˜€ Calm wind. The dew point is 49 degrees.

That weekend came and went quite quickly 😲 but I rammed quite a bit in it. Yesterday I hiked out to Five Rivers in the morning, hiked Bennett Hill in the evening and visited my parents mid afternoon. Didn’t do any work yesterday, though I did a much needed mopping of the kitchen floor 🧹 and cleaned the bathtub and toilet. πŸ› The kitchen floor was muddy from the last time I was out camping, it really needed a good scrub.

I decided to get cream of wheat, aka enriched farina for breakfast πŸ₯£ this morning. It’s not a whole grain so it lacks a lot of fiber but I’ll pare with blackberries for a good breakfast followed by some celery this morning and make sure lunch has a lot of kale included. πŸ˜‹ Tomorrow reheat quiche / eggs, adding extra spinach. Fiber, its what fills you up. Packed brown rice – red lentils, kale, yellow and red peppers, finger hot peppers, spinach and tomatoes for lunch, then packed a dinner of

The record high of 97 was set in 1911.

Seasonably warm for this part of May 🌷 but we’ve had relatively few really warm days this month so far this year. Despite the building El Niño strength it seems like some models are suggesting this could be a relatively mild summer. πŸ– Started out that way for sure.

Solar noon 🌞 is at 12:53 pm with sun having an altitude of 67.7° from the due south horizon (-3.1° vs. 6/21). Spring Is Late

Good morning! Happy Thursday. πŸŒ…

It’s literally freezing out this Thursday morning, though no wind and it’s more like a heavy dew rather than a frost this morning. Still it’s the second half of May and not October.

Mostly sunny and a freezing 32 degrees for the morning walk in Delmar, NY. β˜€ Calm wind. It looks like there is a pretty good temperature inversion around. Probably warmer in higher elevations. Happens in the Albany area sometimes trapping in all the pollution. There was this one house that looked like an oil burner was malfunctioning, and it almost looked like a house fire from all the black smoke. But I think it was just a bad injector, putting in too much fuel into the furnace. But they might want to get that fixed before they have an actual house fire.

I am out walking this morning, 🚢‍♀️ and when I get home, I have rice soaking which I will cook with red lentils. Makes a bit more of pasty, softer rice mixture but I like to change things up then the green lentils. I did forget to get beans last night but I probably wouldn’t have had enough time to soak before morning. πŸ‘¨‍🍳 I also have chicken πŸ” thawing in the refrigerator which I will cook up for dinner, along with the rice, spinach and those mini potatoes I got for camping a few weeks back. πŸ₯ž I was thinking banana-oatmeal pancakes this morning, but they will have to wait for oatmeal and blackberries this morning, as I think my stove will be busy cooking the rice. But it’s fine, I haven’t had oatmeal since Monday, and true be told, it’s a pretty similar meal.

Today will be sunny 🌞, with a high of 65 degrees at 4pm. Seven degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical day around April 28th. Calm wind becoming south around 6 mph in the afternoon. Not quite as cold as yesterday. I just want endless summer. A year ago, we had partly cloudy skies in the morning, remaining cloudy in the afternoon. The high last year was 69 degrees. The record high of 94 was set in 2017. 2.2 inches of snow fell back in 2002.❄

Yesterday I checked off a lot of things on my list. β˜‘ Walked 8.6 miles, got my dry cleaning and a few groceries πŸ₯¦ like more spinach, banana peppers and olives. Finally got skim milk πŸ₯› at Stewart’s, I’ve been putting it off as I don’t like drinking calories but I need for some recipes and it’s good for hot coffee. β˜• Soaking some brown rice 🍚 currently, going to cook that up this morning.

Solar noon 🌞 is at 12:53 pm with sun having an altitude of 66.9° from the due south horizon (-3.9° vs. 6/21). A six foot person will cast a 2.6 foot shadow today compared to 2.2 feet on the first day of summer. The golden hour πŸ… starts at 7:33 pm with the sun in the west-northwest (291°). πŸ“Έ The sunset is in the west-northwest (298°) with the sun dropping below the horizon at 8:14 pm after setting for 3 minutes and 16 seconds with dusk around 8:46 pm, which is one minute and one second later than yesterday. πŸŒ‡ The best time to look at the stars is after 9:28 pm. At sunset, look for mostly clear skies πŸŒ„ and temperatures around 58 degrees. There will be a south-southeast breeze at 7 mph. Today will have 14 hours and 46 minutes of daytime, an increase of one minute and 58 seconds over yesterday.

I fixed some bugs in the style sheet for the blog πŸ–₯ and uploaded that R script I developed for extracting up to date property tax data from the rolls. I’m working on some new ideas for content for the blog, I often monitor what people are searching for on the blog and use it for ideas for content. πŸ’‘

I was doing my monthly financial check up πŸ”Ž πŸ’΅ and discovered I’m taking in a lot of interest payments from my savings account which is at 4% now that the fed pushed up the rates. Combined with dividends, I’m making nearly a fifth of my monthly income from those quarterly taxable sources. That’s kind of bad as I’m going to owe a lot come July 15. Not sure what I’m going to do. I could move more into stocks and bonds but I want to keep cash on hand as I’m going to need a new truck at some point and if the market declines further I want to be able to buy stocks or bonds.

Not the greatest weather ever for the Lupine Festival but not ungodly hot. πŸ¦‹ Saturday, a chance of showers, then showers likely and possibly a thunderstorm after 2pm. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 66. Chance of precipitation is 70%. New rainfall amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms. Maximum dew point of 57 at 8pm. Sunday, a chance of showers before 8am. Mostly sunny, with a high near 74. Chance of precipitation is 30%. Maximum dew point of 51 at 6am. Typical average high for the weekend is 73 degrees.

Looking ahead l, there are 2 weeks until 9 PM Dusk πŸŒ† when the sun will be setting at 8:27 pm with dusk at 9:00 pm. On that day in 2022, we had rain and temperatures between 69 and 60 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 76 degrees. We hit a record high of 94 back in 1918.

 Along the Skanateles Turnpike

Good morning! Happy Pack Rat Day πŸ€

Despite the arrival of green up weeks ago, with the very low humidity and breeze they are talking about Red Flag conditions today. So probably best for pack rats everywhere to keep their piles of debris for Friday night bonfires rather than lighting it off today with a shit ton of used motor oil and diesel. That said, probably the rednecks that do the most burning of things are the biggest pack rats as a lot of things like metal don’t burn well and you never know when you can use that piece of junk.

Cloudy and a chilly 43 degrees in Delmar for the morning walk. ☁ There is a north-northwest breeze at 10 mph. πŸƒ.

Talk about unmotivating weather to get yourself going this morning. I had to get out the jeans πŸ‘– and flannel shirt and vest that I wore this weekend for camping before going out. My windows are closed upstairs. The rest of the week will be warmer but still cool.

I’m thinking this morning it will be quinoa and barley with cherries πŸ’ for breakfast. Yesterday was reheated quiche with extra kale and tomatoes and Monday was oat meal. Always trying to keep things mixed up both for keeping it interesting and delicious πŸ˜‹ but also to have a good mix of vitamins and minerals. With the growing season underway looking forward to adding more local foods soon too.

Today will start out mostly cloudy, πŸŒ₯ then gradually becoming sunny 🌞, with a high of 57 degrees at 5pm. 15 degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical day around April 11th. Northwest wind 10 to 16 mph, with gusts as high as 28 mph. A year ago, we had mostly sunny skies in the morning, remaining cloudy in the afternoon. The high last year was 67 degrees. The record high of 92 was set in 2017.

Got out from work at 6:10 pm last night, 🚍 then had dinner around seven, voted πŸ—³ and walked 8.2 miles for the day. It really helps the days are longer now. Sat out back for a while on the tailgate of my truck, as it was a mild evening before retiring to bed πŸ› a quarter after eight.

Heading to the dry cleaner this morning on my way into work, πŸ•΄οΈI’ll have to put it on my card πŸ’³ as I got busy again at work yesterday and forgot to get to the bank 🏦. It’s fine. Then I’ll get olives and chilli 🌢 peppers at the store after work.

Solar noon 🌞 is at 12:53 pm with sun having an altitude of 66.7° from the due south horizon (-4.2° vs. 6/21). At sunset, look for clear skies πŸŒ„ and temperatures around 52 degrees. There will be a north-northwest breeze at 10 mph. North wind 5 to 10 mph becoming light northwest after midnight. In 2022, we had mostly clear skies in the evening, which became partly cloudy by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 46 degrees. The record low of 29 occurred back in 1981.

Lupine Festival looks to be at least somewhat wet. πŸ¦‹ Saturday, showers likely, mainly after 2pm. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 68. Chance of precipitation is 70%. May 11, 2023 Morning

Good morning! Happy Thursday. ☺

The sun is rising and I’m out walking. It was dark last night by the time I returned home from Five Rivers. Thought I would do like ten miles but it ended up being a hair over nine.

Still feels a bit cool out this morning. Sunny and 49 degrees in Delmar, NY. 🌞 Calm wind. Then again do I really want to wake up and be Godsmacked by the humidity? Those days aren’t certainly far off. There is less than a month until the legislative session is done. I’m already thinking about heading up to the Potholers come the Juneteenth weekend.

Hazy this morning πŸŒ† still from the Canadian wild fires. With the more stagnant air expected to move in both Western NY, along Lake Ontario and Downstate will have air quality alerts ⚠ today. I wonder how long before electrification makes air quality alerts less common. Although who knows with the increasing wildfires.

I’m out of coffee in the pot β˜• this morning so I’ll have to make up some more. Going to reheat qieche I made last week and froze. Then I want to leave early enough to walk down to the Park and Ride to catch the express there. 🚏

Today will be sunny 🌞, with a high of 77 degrees at 3pm. Seven degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical day around June 5th. Maximum dew point of 46 at 6pm. Not very humid. Light and variable wind becoming northwest 5 to 9 mph in the morning. A year ago, we had mostly sunny skies. The high last year was 82 degrees. The record high of 90 was set in 1911. 0.5 inches of snow fell back in 1907.❄

I have my repaired tire back and my suit jackets are getting dry cleaned. πŸ§‘πŸ»β€πŸ’Ό It’s a casual dress day at work and I expect to be done by five so I’ll take the express bus 🚍 both ways. Making a fresh pot of rice 🍚 up this morning and probably will have with salmon 🐠 later on then head to the park 🏞 to walk until dusk. I’ll put the tire back on Sunday after washing and lubrication.

Solar noon 🌞 is at 12:53 pm with sun having an altitude of 65.2Β° from the due south horizon (-5.6Β° vs. 6/21). A six foot person will cast a 2.8 foot shadow today compared to 2.2 feet on the first day of summer. The golden hour πŸ… starts at 7:26 pm with the sun in the west-northwest (289Β°). πŸ“Έ The sunset is in the west-northwest (296Β°) with the sun dropping below the horizon at 8:07 pm after setting for 3 minutes and 12 seconds with dusk around 8:38 pm, which is one minute and 5 seconds later than yesterday. πŸŒ‡ The best time to look at the stars is after 9:18 pm. At sunset, look for mostly clear skies πŸŒ„ and temperatures around 69 degrees. The dew point will be 49 degrees. There will be a west-northwest breeze at 6 mph. Today will have 14 hours and 31 minutes of daytime, an increase of 2 minutes and 14 seconds over yesterday.

The Nature Bus to Thacher Park returns in two weeks 🌲 during Memorial Day Weekend. No schedule yet but I expect that probably in the next few days it will be released. It’s a fun way to spend a Saturday that doesn’t cost anything.

Tonight will be partly cloudy πŸŒƒ , with a low of 54 degrees at 3am. Seven degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical night around June 2nd. Maximum dew point of 49 at 8pm. West wind around 6 mph becoming light and variable in the evening. In 2022, we had mostly clear skies. It got down to 44 degrees. The record low of 29 occurred back in 1969.

A picture perfect weekend on tap. 😎 Saturday, mostly sunny, with a high near 76. North wind 6 to 14 mph. Maximum dew point of 53 at 7am. Sunday, mostly sunny, with a high near 68. Maximum dew point of 36 at 9pm. Typical average high for the weekend is 71 degrees.

Pretty sure that Sunday I want to hike Blodgett Hill 🚢 for another twenty miler but I could change my mind. Going to be a nice weekend for sure. Saturday most certainly I’ll be working.

As previously noted, there are 3 weeks until 9 PM Dusk πŸŒ† when the sun will be setting at 8:27 pm with dusk at 9:00 pm. On that day in 2022, we had rain and temperatures between 69 and 60 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 76 degrees. We hit a record high of 94 back in 1918.

The somewhat accidental campfire breakfast 🍳

I knew I would be low on propane by the end of the weekend but I decided to not get propane on Thursday when I shopped. Come this morning I ran out and cooked breakfast over a bed of coals. It was pretty good, especially now that I’ve been learning to cook and was full of delicious spinach, tofu, peppers, mushrooms, tomatoes and onions topped with feta. No more kids meals for me with greasy sausage and cheddar cheese. Everything tastes better with the smoke of a fire. Plus it gave me a chance to warm by the fire, cooked up the remaining chicken and rice with onions and peppers to make a lunchtime wrap which I will bring on my Catskill Scenic Trail walk from Grand Gorge to Stamford this afternoon.

Good morning! Happy Sunday. β›ͺ Mostly sunny and 43 degrees at the Burnt-Rossman State Forest. There is a west-southwest breeze at 5 mph. πŸƒ.

Today is warming up quickly as I lay back in the hammock. 😴 It’s not nearly as breezy as yesterday morning so that helps. Plus it’s a nice sunny morning though I’m not sure how long that will last. I guess it’s a good excuse to hike the Catskill Scenic Trail earlier rather than later. πŸ‘£ I’ve done most of it in the autumn, it would be interesting to see how much different it is in the spring. 🌺

Today will have increasing clouds β˜€ πŸ‘‰ ☁, with a high of 66 degrees at 3pm. Three degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical day around May 1st. West wind 5 to 8 mph. A year ago, we had partly cloudy skies in the morning, remaining cloudy in the afternoon. The high last year was 59 degrees. The record high of 92 was set in 1930. 0.2 inches of snow fell back in 1967.❄

Solar noon 🌞 is at 12:55 pm with sun having an altitude of 64.3Β° from the due south horizon (-6.7Β° vs. 6/21). A six foot person will cast a 2.9 foot shadow today compared to 2.2 feet on the first day of summer. The golden hour πŸ… starts at 7:25 pm with the sun in the west-northwest (287Β°). πŸ“Έ The sunset is in the west-northwest (294Β°) with the sun dropping below the horizon at 8:04 pm after setting for 3 minutes and 10 seconds with dusk around 8:35 pm, which is one minute and 6 seconds later than yesterday. πŸŒ‡ The best time to look at the stars is after 9:14 pm. At sunset, look for rain 🌧 and temperatures around 58 degrees. There will be a west breeze at 5 mph. Today will have 14 hours and 21 minutes of daytime, an increase of 2 minutes and 20 seconds over yesterday.

Yesterday I hiked 10.7 miles. Kind of a big loop from Burnt Hill Road to the Long Path, past the waterfalls I uploaded the photo πŸ“Έ from yesterday, around Looking Glass Pond 🎣 down to Betty Brook, out to CCC Road 2 snowmobile trail 🚢 back up Burnt Hill then back to camp. I didn’t get a real early start yesterday as I wanted to stay out of the woods until after Spring Turkey πŸ¦ƒ closed for the day at noontime. Plus climbing some of those hills around here can be tiring.

Tonight will rain, mainly between 10pm and 5am. Cloudy 🌧, with a low of 45 degrees at 6am. One degree below normal, which is similar to a typical night around May 6th. West wind around 5 mph becoming light and variable. Chance of precipitation is 70%. New precipitation amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch possible. Alas it’s probably best I’m heading home after hiking. In 2022, we had partly cloudy skies in the evening, which became mostly clear by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 41 degrees. The record low of 26 occurred back in 1968.

Looking ahead, next Sunday is Mothers Day πŸ‘©β€ when the sun will be setting at 8:12 pm with dusk at 8:43 pm. On that day in 2022, we had partly cloudy, warm, rain showers and temperatures between 84 and 66 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 71 degrees. We hit a record high of 93 back in 1900.
