Good evening! Snow flurries, cold, cloudy and 22 degrees in Delmar, NY. โ„ There is a northwest breeze at 14 mph. 🍃. The current wind chill is 9. There are 3 inches of snow on the ground. Maybe less as today was quite mild. But cold tomorrow and Tuesday. โ˜ƒ ๏ธThings will start to thaw out at Wednesday around noontime. 🌡๏ธ

Stayed home today 🏡, did a lot of cleaning, some reading and quite a bit of time on my now well adjusted quiet exercise bike 🚲 that is no longer making my knee caps hurt from the seat being too low and the sqweaks and noise levels are much lower. Ironically my neighbor is out of town this weekend so it doesn’t matter much but regardless when he’s home I don’t have to worry as much about the lower level of noise bothering him. 🔕

Making a lot of progress on cleaning the bathtub 🛀 which had quite a thick layer of soap on the back splash 💦. That soap can be hard to clean. 🧹 Did lot of dusting too. Just do one thing and then you need to clean another thing. I think when I own my own land I would want a house a lot smaller than my apartment with concrete, wood, or tile floors that are easy to clean.

Not really sick but been a bit congested 😷 so I figured if I stay home I will avoid getting sicker. It’s just the cold that’s been going around the office 🏢 – low level thing I want to burn off without getting sick.

Almost finished reading 📖 that book on Storm Lake, Iowa. Interesting story about what is happening in many rural communities – although I do think the author has a liberal bias – and he’s not necessarily telling the story as the farmers in many cases see it. 🚜

Tonight will have a chance of snow showers, mainly before 10pm. Mostly cloudy 🌧, with a low of 10 degrees at 6am. Four degrees below normal. Maximum wind chill around -4 at 6am; Northwest wind 10 to 14 mph. That wind sucks. Chance of precipitation is 30%. Total nighttime snow accumulation of less than a half inch possible. In 2019, we had light snow in the evening, which became heavier snow by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 0 degrees. Cold night. The record low of -22 occurred back in 1970.

Going to be a pretty cold night 🌃 and I probably should turn up the heat so it won’t be too cold in my apartment by morning.

Tonight will have a Waning Crescent 🌒 Moon with 22% illuminated. The darkest hour is at 12:07 am, followed by dawn at 6:51 am, and sun starting to rise at 7:22 am in the east-southeast (118ยฐ) and last for 3 minutes and 16 seconds. Sunrise is 35 seconds earlier than yesterday. 🌄 The golden hour ends at 8:05 am with sun in the southeast (125ยฐ) at an altitude of 6ยฐ. Tonight will have 14 hours and 28 minutes of darkness, a decrease of one minute and 51 seconds over last night.

M. L. King Day will be sunny 🌞, with a high of 22 degrees at 2pm. Eight degrees below normal. Northwest wind around 10 mph. A year ago, we had mostly sunny skies in the morning, which became light snow by afternoon. The high last year was 21 degrees. The record high of 53 was set in 2006. 10.4 inches of snow fell back in 2019.โ„ I don’t remember it snowing that much on MLK day last year but I think it was a Saturday or Sunday. I’d have to look at the calendar 📅.

Tomorrow should be a nice quiet day. 😴 I want to get an early start, not sure if I will go skiing 🎿 or not Monday. Might be pretty cold based on the forecast, especially the wind. Definitely need to go shopping and later to the library. Also out going to the folks house for dinner, they’re making pork roast 🐖.

In four weeks on February 16 the sun will be setting in the west-southwest (254ยฐ) at 5:27 pm,🌄 which is 36 minutes and 20 seconds later then tonight. In 2019 on that day, we had partly sunny and temperatures between 34 and 22 degrees. Typically, you have temperatures between 35 and 17 degrees. The record high of 61 degrees was set back in 2006.

Looking ahead, 5:30 PM Dusk 🌆 is in 1 weeks, Ground Hog Day 🐻 is in 2 weeks, Snow Moon 🌕 is in 3 weeks, February Save the Pine Dinner 🦋 is a month away, March 🌨 is in 6 weeks, Daylight Savings Time 🌆 is in 7 weeks, Ides of March โœ is in 8 weeks, Palm Sunday 🌴 is in 11 weeks, Easter 🐰 is in 12 weeks, Mothers Day 👩โ€ is in 16 weeks, Pack Rat Day 🐀 is in 17 weeks, Strawberry Moon 🌕 is in 20 weeks and Fathers Day 👨 is in 21 weeks.

January 18, 2020 Night

Good evening! Snow and 22 degrees in Delmar, NY. โ„ There is a south breeze at 10 mph. 🍃. The current wind chill is 11. At times there are some good gusts of wind. There is a four inches of snow on the ground. โ˜ƒ Things will start to thaw out at tomorrow around 8 am. 🌡๏ธ Already warmed up enough that it’s very comfortable in my bedroom and the heat ain’t running non stop.

Decent little snow storm tonight โ›„, many years we’d call it a nuisance snow but this year has been so snow free except for that first big one in December its not been a very snowy winter. For a few weeks before Christmas we had some snow on the ground but recently in the city it’s been gone and based on the latest forecast it seems like it may very well be gone by the end of the week. Snow started around 2 pm here but didn’t make the roads noticeably bad until after 4 pm when I walked home from the library and had dinner.

I am definitely starting to get a cold or a bit of head congestion. 👃 I could feel it especially out walking 🚶 today at Kheler Preserve. I was going to just do Bennett Hill but I decided I hadn’t been on a walk on Wolf Hill in a while and it cleared out for a while so I wasn’t super concerned about having to drive the letter S or Cass Hill in the snow. It was definitely cold out hiking but manageable with gloves, jacket and a hoodie.

Breakfast with the parents at the local cafe was good but once again after eating there I had modestly bad diarrhea. 🍳 I don’t know if it’s from all the coffee โ˜• I drank, the eggs or an ingredient in them but it always happens after going there. It’s kind of a hole in the wall place and the food is decent but it doesn’t do my stomach thing at all. And it’s not been a one time thing. My parents eat there all the time. I’d hate to blame the business but it doesn’t go well with my stomach. 👾 Fortunately I have zero regrets about taking a poop in the woods and wiping my ass with snow and leaves. 💩 Not sure if I’m going to go back to the dinner again though because I keep getting sick and it’s always awkward sitting there with your elderly parents while you wait for food to come out. Somehow Sunday dinner is different, out at their house your not sitting across from them waiting as they’re cooking or doing other tasks around the house 🏡.

Adjusted the exercise bike 🚲 to make the seats and handle bars higher so hopefully it will be easier on my knees. I was surprised that the bolts 🔩 are all metric, it’s my grandmother’s old exercise bike. Rode the bike for a bit watching some YouTube I downloaded. Burned off some of the calories from that game bih

I got the $10 bill in the mail from Nielsen Survey. โœ‰ Cool, real cash sent in the mail. I’ll stick it in my wallet. Now they’re trying to get me to do their week long TV 📺 survey and send back for another ten bucks. This one is paper in a business return envelope. I think I’ll do it, not hard as I don’t own a television or have internet at home. I can let them know that I watched a YouTube video I download 🐮 about milk quality testing and a science video about arsenic, oh and some true trash watching from Demolition Ranch shooting guns and Westin Champlain rebuilding a truck. Probably some of NB88 off grid cabin or Ohio Prepper before the week is up. Actually I’m not sure if I’m going to have to report that stuff I think it’s more cable television. Ten bucks, sure why not.

That said, I am trying to do more reading at home 📖, as I know it’s so much better for you and ones imagination then watching YouTube videos. Sure you can learn a lot from real people on the YouTube – I’ve learned a lot about trapping, hunting, butchering and off grid living even if not all of it is legal in New York. No snares in New York, only foothold or body gripping traps for example. 🔫 Reading is definitely something that I enjoy at camp by the fire or in the tent but admittedly I do less at home. Might do a lot more though at the park come spring time, especially when I get home each night at the 5:40 leaving a lot more evenings free to enjoy with a book at the park โ›ฒ – or I could even read just out back. I found five good books 📚 at the library that I took out and want to read all of them but it depends on how much time I have.

Tonight will snow, mainly before midnight. Temperature rising to around 31 by 3am. South wind 7 to 11 mph. Chance of precipitation is 90%. Total nighttime snow accumulation of 1 to 2 inches possible. In 2019, we had light snow in the evening, which became mostly clear by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 7 degrees. The record low of -28 occurred back in 1971.

Tomorrow I want to do some cleaning up in the bathroom 🛁 and around the apartment. I also would like to get to the store and buy groceries after the snow stops, drop off paper 📄 for recycling โ™ป and then possibly go skiing 🎿. Plus more reading 📖 and maybe some soldering I’m not sure the evening. Should actually be quite mild tomorrow but cold for Martin Luther King 👑 day. 💜

Tonight will have a Waning Crescent 🌒 Moon with 33% illuminated. The darkest hour is at 12:06 am, followed by dawn at 6:51 am, and sun starting to rise at 7:22 am in the east-southeast (118ยฐ) and last for 3 minutes and 17 seconds. Sunrise is 34 seconds earlier than yesterday. 🌄 The golden hour ends at 8:06 am with sun in the southeast (125ยฐ) at an altitude of 6ยฐ. Tonight will have 14 hours and 30 minutes of darkness, a decrease of one minute and 48 seconds over last night.

Tomorrow will have a slight chance of snow showers before 10am, then a slight chance of rain and snow showers between 10am and 1pm, then a slight chance of snow showers after 1pm. Areas of blowing snow between 8am and noon. Mostly cloudy 🌧, with a high of 36 degrees at 11am. Six degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical day around February 19th. West wind 7 to 12 mph increasing to 13 to 18 mph in the morning. Winds could gust as high as 31 mph. Chance of precipitation is 20%. A year ago, we had light snow. The high last year was 31 degrees. The record high of 62 was set in 1929. 8.5 inches of snow fell back in 1886.โ„

In four weeks on February 15 the sun will be setting in the west-southwest (253ยฐ) at 5:26 pm,🌄 which is 36 minutes and 15 seconds later then tonight. Blue Snow Skies

January 14, 2020 Night

Good evening! Cloudy and 39 degrees in Delmar, NY. โ˜ There is a south breeze at 8 mph. ๐Ÿƒ. Temperatures will drop below freezing at Thursday around 4 pm. โ˜ƒ๏ธ

I walked down to the library for a while to return my books ๐Ÿ“š. I was going to work on the John Wolcott project but I’ve had little ambition to do that much data entry after a busy day at work. ๐Ÿ“‡ He’s out of the hospital and feeling better, I’ll be back over on Friday. I really think I want to spend time cleaning up the existing sorted files ๐Ÿ“‚ and getting better labels ๐Ÿ”– on the folders. Rode the exercise bike ๐Ÿšฒ for a few minutes but stopped as my neighbor came home and lately it’s been quite squeaky. I’m hoping I can lubricate and tighten it up and get rid of the noise. It is pretty old and hardly a quiet machine at this point.

Neighbors have a candle burning in their window as I go to bed. ๐Ÿ•ฏ๏ธ I sure hope they’re keeping an eye on it ๐Ÿ‘€ and not falling asleep with it at still burning ๐Ÿ”ฅ. I actually am going to make sure that I know where my wallet is and laptop bag before bed in case my neighbor’s place catches fire. ๐Ÿ›‹๏ธ Its not directly connected to my building but if it caught fire, there is a risk of fire brands hitting my building so I would have to evacuate. I am all for using fire in a controlled way – its great for restoring habitats, heating buildings, cooking food and disposing of waste in rural areas – but it’s such a menace especially in the cities. ๐ŸŒ‡ I’m sure it will be fine or so I hope.

Tonight will have a chance of drizzle or light rain before 11pm, then a slight chance of drizzle between 11pm and 2am. Mostly cloudy ๐ŸŒง, with a low of 35 degrees at 6am. 21 degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical night around April 8th. South wind 7 to 13 mph becoming west after midnight. Chance of precipitation is 30%. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch possible. In 2019, we had partly cloudy skies in the evening, which became light snow by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 10 degrees. The record low of -20 occurred back in 1957.

Tonight will have a Waning Gibbous ๐ŸŒ– Moon. The darkest hour is at 12:05 am, followed by dawn at 6:53 am, and sun starting to rise at 7:24 am in the east-southeast (119ยฐ) and last for 3 minutes and 19 seconds. Sunrise is 24 seconds earlier than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ„ The golden hour ends at 8:08 am with sun in the southeast (127ยฐ) at an altitude of 6ยฐ. Tonight will have 14 hours and 37 minutes of darkness, a decrease of one minute and 35 seconds over last night.

Tomorrow will be mostly sunny ๐ŸŒž, with a high of 43 degrees at 1pm. 13 degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical day around March 12th. Northwest wind 6 to 10 mph. Should be a very pleasant day. A year ago, we had mostly sunny skies in the morning with some clearing in the afternoon. The high last year was 33 degrees. The record high of 65 was set in 1995. 13.4 inches of snow fell back in 1983.โ„

It wasn’t a bad day at work, meeting went well. ๐Ÿ’ผ Busy today but I got another report finalized on my end of things. Making good progress. I got a nice complement from my boss to a client. Busy but so drab in that windowless office ๐Ÿข with those cool white florescent bulbs. But I’m getting stuff done, getting results for clients.

I got bumped by a car ๐Ÿš™ in a crosswalk today ๐Ÿ’ฅbut I wasn’t injured. I thought I made eye contact ๐Ÿ‘€ with the driver but I was kind of day dreaming and neither of us were looking. I bumped my hand into the hood of his truck but I never hit the bumper and didn’t do any damage. Got to be more careful crossing the streets. I haven’t had a close call like that in years – once before something similar happened in college – but I know it’s definitely possible to get in a much worse accident then getting brushed by a car. ๐Ÿšถ Drivers just don’t pay attention. Neither do I at times when I say dream. ๐Ÿ’ญ Pine Busher Lynne Jackson and bicycle activist Burt Shou has been warning โš  me about this for years.

In my suit ๐Ÿ‘”I do see myself getting old and gray in parts and with only a little over 3 years until I’m forty years old I really should try to understand myself and my future better. ๐Ÿ‘ด Still researching counseling services. I should just make an appointment and its only $25. I don’t like it, I don’t have to go back. But I could become a better person. ๐Ÿ‘ช It’s great to save for my future but I really should figure out if I should be looking to do other things in the meantime. Old age creeps up suddenly and I don’t want to be at a place where I can no longer do the things I want to do, like moving out west to rural town, my off grid property or hobby farm. ๐Ÿšœ Watching YouTube videos has me constantly thinking about all the other way people live and put food on their table. Some options will never be open to me, but if I have a better plan and more confidence I can open new doors for my future. ๐ŸšชI wish I could walk into a room, have a firm hand shake and be more charismatic and not a reserved somewhat crude hillbilly in a suit.

As I mentioned earlier, Iowa always seems like a fun state but not a lot of public land and land there can be super expensive due to amazing soils. ๐ŸŒฝ I follow Iowa Dairy Boys and a few other farm channels on the YouTube ๐Ÿฎ and while some of the farming isn’t that different than here in New York with old tie stall barns, they also have some really big and very fertile fields that are uncommon except for a few deep valleys in New York like the Genesee Valley of Western NY. But those are tiny in comparison to the vast fertile Iowa prarie. They also get quite a bit of snow and cold in Iowa – they’re winters are cooler than New York but hotter on summer due to the lack of moderating Atlantic Ocean. I also follow an off gridder in a shed to home ๐Ÿก in Iowa, as you might guess in a rural state like that many of rural areas are reasonably laid back on zoning and codes. I do love ๐Ÿ˜ learning about how those farm families fight the forces of nature and the market to scratch together a living often on the margins. They might have a lot of investment in their land and operations but even in Iowa are often struggling to make ends meet.

In four weeks on February 11 the sun will be setting in the west-southwest (251ยฐ) at 5:21 pm,๐ŸŒ„ which is 35 minutes and 47 seconds later then tonight. In 2019 on that day, we had partly cloudy, snow showers and temperatures between 33 and 18 degrees. Typically, you have temperatures between 34 and 17 degrees. The record high of 59 degrees was set back in 1981.

Looking ahead, Don’t Cry over Spilled Milk Day ๐Ÿฅ› is in 4 weeks, Valentines Day โค๏ธ is a month away, National Drink Wine Day ๐Ÿท is in 5 weeks, St. Patrick’s Day ๐Ÿ€ is in 9 weeks, 7:30 PM Sunset ๐ŸŒ‡ is in 12 weeks, Cinco de Mayo ๐Ÿค  is in 16 weeks, Fathers Day ๐Ÿ‘จ is in 5 months, Primary Day ๐Ÿ—ณ๏ธ is in 23 weeks and Election Day 2020 ๐Ÿ—ณ๏ธ is in 42 weeks.

January 13, 2020 Morning

Good morning! Happy Make Your Dream Come True Day ๐Ÿก! Take it Malvina Reynolds with your very white hair and cateye glasses ๐Ÿ‘“. Her music ๐ŸŽถ was very old ๐Ÿ‘ด and subversive and I hate vinyl siding and green grass lawns free of dandelions unless of course you have a goat ๐Ÿ chained up to a tree in the front yard. On this Monday, the 13th of January.

Little boxes on the hillside,
Little boxes made of ticky tacky
Little boxes on the hillside,
Little boxes all the same,
There’s a pink one and a green one
And a blue one and a yellow one
And they’re all made out of ticky tacky
And they all look just the same.

That think my dream involves more four wheelers, more fire, more livestock and guns than vinyl siding and chemical treated lawns.๐Ÿš™ And I like tin roofs as it means a lot less for the landfill every few years. ๐Ÿ’ญ The idea of surburbanite living with an SUV, a fancy pretentious looking house, weekly garbage service and grid-tied power, does absolutely nothing for me.๐Ÿšœ Probably more like a tractor supply commercial, or actually real life like the people in places like South Brookfield and Bedford County Penna live their lives.๐Ÿฎ

Mostly cloudy and 30 degrees at the Valero waiting for the local bus ๐Ÿš as I am dress up for the session day today. โ˜ There is a southeast breeze at 5 mph. ๐Ÿƒ. Things will start to thaw out at around 9 am. ๐ŸŒก๏ธ It looks like the bus will be on time, and I’ll probably be in early to work, probably the first int he office. But early to rise means it’s another chance to get ahead, make a better future for mysellf.

Spent way too much time ironing shirts ๐Ÿ‘š this morning. For some reason they came out of the dryer very wrinkled. โ™’I am thinking the issue was they were a bit damp. But I ironed all the shirts I need for the week this morning and to ensure they’re good and wrinkle free, I have them hung in the bathtub ๐Ÿ› shower curtain rod so they absorb the moisture in the air in the bathroom. You have to know it’s steamy in there when the bathroom steam set off the bedroom smoke detector on my way out to the bus ๐Ÿš. Then I knocked a bunch of papers loose ๐Ÿ“„ but at least I caught the early bus in plenty of time.

Today will have patchy drizzle between noon and 3pm. Mostly cloudy ๐ŸŒฅ, with a high of 39 degrees at 1pm. Nine degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical day around March 1st. Spring is coming, or so I tell myself. South wind 5 to 8 mph. A year ago, we had mostly sunny skies in the morning with some clearing in the afternoon. The high last year was 23 degrees. The record high of 71 was set in 1932. 13.1 inches of snow fell back in 1964.โ„ Back when cars were real-wheel drive, and you threw them away at your friendly local landfill every 4-5 years.

Solar noon ๐ŸŒž is at 12:05 pm with sun having an altitude of 25.8ยฐ from the due south horizon (-45ยฐ vs. 6/21). Yeap, we have to wait for 4 pm for the golden hour to start. ๐ŸŒŸ The golden hour ๐Ÿ… starts at 4:00 pm with the sun in the southwest (233ยฐ). ๐Ÿ“ธ Not only is the golden hour great for photography ๐Ÿ“ท but it is also good for seeing a wild life. I saw a shit ton of deer bushwhacking back to my truck yesterday after the golden hour started yesterday. Went through some brambles and probably picked up ticks ๐Ÿœ but so far didn’t see any but I should have checked again.

The sunset is in the west-southwest (241ยฐ) starting at 4:41 pm and lasts for 3 minutes and 19 seconds with dusk around 5:15 pm, which is one minute and 7 seconds later than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ‡ I think the sun will be due east on the first day of spring, which if math correct is 270 degrees west. The best time to look at the stars is after 5:51 pm. At sunset, look for mostly cloudy skies โ˜ and temperatures around 38 degrees. There will be a south-southeast breeze at 6 mph. Today will have 9 hours and 20 minutes of daytime, an increase of one minute and 29 seconds over yesterday.

Tonight will be mostly cloudy ๐ŸŒฅ, with a low of 30 degrees at 6am. 16 degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical night around March 27th. Calm wind. In 2019, we had mostly clear skies in the evening, which became mostly clear by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 8 degrees. The record low of -24 occurred back in 1957.

Snowy weekend weekend on tap to celebrate King’s birthday. โ„ Saturday, snow. High near 34. Chance of precipitation is 80%. Sunday, a chance of snow. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 28. Chance of precipitation is 50%. Typical average high for the weekend is 30 degrees.

๐ŸŒน๐ŸŒป๐ŸŒผOnly 66 days remain until the first day of calendar spring!๐ŸŒน๐ŸŒป๐ŸŒผ

But first a big snow storm on Saturday or maybe not. โ„ But we don’t know for sure but it could be a half of foot or more this weekend. ๐ŸŽฟ Maybe good skiing but I doubt I’ll get out to Madison County especially if it’s going to be pretty cold and snowy. But by then it will be only sixty odd days until calendar ๐Ÿ“… spring although that’s a pretty meaningless thing with the often variable weather of March and April. But at least with the first day of spring in 66 and 2/3rd days away trout season ๐ŸŽฃ is will be nigh.

Next Monday is Martin Luther King Day ๐Ÿ–ค when the sun will be setting at 4:52 pm with dusk at 5:23 pm. On that day in 2019, we had snow and temperatures between 21 and 0 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 30 degrees. We hit a record high of 53 back in 2006.

Trees

January 12, 2020 Night

Good evening! Mostly cloudy and 32 degrees in Delmar, NY. โ˜ There is a north-northwest breeze at 9 mph. 🍃. Things will start to thaw out at tomorrow around 9 am. 🌡๏ธ

Not a half bad evening, not super cold, feeling more like the first day of spring tonight – which is different than the first day of summer like last night. โ„ But they’re still talking about a big snow storm on next Saturday. Pine Bush dinner on Wednesday, going over to John Wolcott house Thursday. Three days of session attire this week but at least I get to go home at five each day. 👚 The dress shirts are hanging in the bathroom to absorb moisture as they’re a bit wrinkled but I suspect I’ll need the iron come the morning. Definitely good I got 14 miles walking in today as I doubt I’ll be walking 🚶 down to the express bus 🚍 tomorrow in my suit and tie. 👔But maybe after work I’ll try to get more steps in especially if it’s relatively mild.

It was a good weekend, modestly busy but that kept things moving forward. 💼 I suspect it will be another busy work week but at least I’ll have a few weeknights free without the late nights at work. I have to keep typing up that index 📇 for John Wolcott files 📂, I have a soldering project to work on, some exercise bike 🚲 and YouTube watching to do and I should probably make up some more maps. I might get asked to help with taping 📹 more of the Reszin Adams documentary too.

Tonight will be mostly cloudy 🌥, with a low of 28 degrees at 4am. 14 degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical night around March 22nd. Maximum wind chill around 26 at 2am; Northwest wind 5 to 9 mph becoming light and variable after midnight. In 2019, we had mostly clear skies in the evening, which became mostly clear by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 10 degrees. The record low of -18 occurred back in 1968.

Tonight will have a Waning Gibbous 🌖 moon. The darkest hour is at 12:04 am, followed by dawn at 6:53 am, and sun starting to rise at 7:25 am in the east-southeast (119ยฐ) and last for 3 minutes and 20 seconds. Sunrise is 20 seconds earlier than yesterday. 🌄 The golden hour ends at 8:09 am with sun in the southeast (127ยฐ) at an altitude of 6ยฐ. Tonight will have 14 hours and 40 minutes of darkness, a decrease of one minute and 29 seconds over last night.

Tomorrow will be mostly cloudy 🌥, with a high of 40 degrees at 3pm. 10 degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical day around March 4th. South wind 3 to 8 mph. A year ago, we had cloudy skies in the morning with more sun in the afternoon. The high last year was 23 degrees. The record high of 71 was set in 1932. 13.1 inches of snow fell back in 1964.โ„

Also on this week’s agenda is to continue researching counseling services and to make an appointment. 💭 I think some talk therapy could make me a better person and more productive. 😁 I was thinking that by next November I will be a lot closer to being out of the lobbying ban and if I was better at selling myself and had more confidence I could get a much better paying job and be closer to my goals of eventually owning my own land and an off grid property. 🏡 That said, I’m still struggling a bit on what exactly I want to get out of these sessions although I guess it depends a lot on how the discussions go. I’d much prefer to go somewhere on the bus line, so I don’t have to worry about driving.

It’s still looking like a good snow storm on Saturday night so I might do some skiing 🎿 during the long weekend next week. I’d love to do another camping trip โ›บ but not sure if we get a ton of snow. Who knows though, it’s something to watch. I did really enjoy my walk at Partridge Run. I should go out to the hilltowns and spend more time out in the country. YouTube on the exercise bike is fun but it’s not like experiencing reality the same way, alone in the wilderness. 🚲 There is something about the wild country that stirs my soul. The sounds of wilderness that I smells and looks of the countryside and Sure beats being stuck in the basement all day.

I might go shopping 🏪 one night this week because somehow I forgot a lot of things at Walmart on Saturday. I could stop somewhere on the way home from work but it might just be easier to drive there if I had a list of things to do like maybe washing my truck again. 🚘I have plenty of reusable bags now 🛄 after my parents got me some but I’m still thinking about getting milk crates for carrying groceries home. It will be nice not to see so many plastic bags flapping around in the trees in the cities.

In four weeks on February 9 the sun will be setting in the west-southwest (251ยฐ) at 5:18 pm,🌄 which is 35 minutes and 26 seconds later then tonight. January 8, 2020 Night

Good evening! Snow flurries and 22 degrees in Delmar, NY. โ„ Breezy, ๏ธ18 mph breeze from the west-northwest 🌬 with gusts up to 32 mph 💨💨💨. The current wind chill is 9. I know it gets colder most winters and this is probably not the coldest of the winter but it’s still kind of cold out tonight. Tomorrow will only be in the upper 20s. The sun thought will help. But then things will start to thaw out at Friday around 10 am, with the mercury expected to reach the 60s by Saturday or maybe even the mid 60s by Sunday. 🌡๏ธ

Tonight will have a slight chance of snow showers before 11pm. Partly cloudy 🌃, with a low of 13 degrees at 5am. Two degrees below normal. But that ignores the wind that is howling around. Maximum wind chill around 2 at 6am; Northwest wind 11 to 18 mph, with gusts as high as 32 mph. Chance of precipitation is 20%. In 2019, we had mist in the evening, which became light rain by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 32 degrees. The record low of -20 occurred back in 1968.

I didn’t miss not having to do anything with the state of state this year. 🎤 That said the endless hours listening to this interview I was taking notes on 📝 for several hours was quite tiresome. The report I was writing for work is going slowly as it keeps getting more complicated and the NYC subject matters are a bit out of my wheel house 🎡. But at least I got to go home at five. I’ll catch up on the important stuff from the governors speech 💬 from the news headlines.

It was cold enough waiting for the express bus 🚍 home with the wind. 🍃 My neighbor was out so I stayed home and rode the exercise bike while watching another video about skinning and gutting rabbits 🐰🔪 (I must have downloaded several before). While the process is the same, some people have different techniques. Then I watched a video about off grid living in Alaska (very cold this time of year) โ›„ and a phone battery manufacturing plant in China. 🏭 Those high tech factories are incredibly automated and fast in China. I only rode for about 45 minutes to 8:45 but I could have ridden later as my neighbor was still out. 🚲

I also worked on a program to extract captions from YouTube into a text file 📄 for easy reading. Sometimes I like to skim the captions file before I watch a long video to see if it’s worth watching. I also started to prepare and type up the index 📇 to John Wolcott history file. 📂 There is a lot more to do on that. Also worked on developing more content for the blog and read for a bit. 📙 Had a quick dinner of macaroni and cheese although once I stated cooking it I wish I had made fish 🐠 as that’s what I was more hungry for.

Tonight will have a Waxing Gibbous 🌖 Moon with 96% illuminated. At dusk you’ll see the moon in the east (81ยฐ) at an altitude of 25ยฐ from the horizon, some 238,886 miles away from where you are looking up from the earth. 🚀 The Wolf 🐺 Moon is on Friday, January 10. The darkest hour is at 12:03 am, followed by dawn at 6:54 am, and sun starting to rise at 7:26 am in the east-southeast (120ยฐ) and last for 3 minutes and 22 seconds. Starting to put push a bit further north. Sunrise is 11 seconds earlier than yesterday. 🌄 The golden hour ends at 8:11 am with sun in the southeast (128ยฐ) at an altitude of 6ยฐ. Tonight will have 14 hours and 45 minutes of darkness, a decrease of one minute and 13 seconds over last night.

Tomorrow will be sunny 🌞, with a high of 28 degrees at 2pm. Two degrees below normal. Northwest wind 5 to 8 mph becoming light and variable in the afternoon. Without the wind and with the bright 🔆 sun it shouldnt be too cold. A year ago, we had cloudy skies. The high last year was 40 degrees. The record high of 62 was set in 2008. 9.9 inches of snow fell back in 1953.โ„

In four weeks on February 5 the sun will be setting in the west-southwest (249ยฐ) at 5:13 pm,🌄 which is 34 minutes and 29 seconds later then tonight. In 2019 on that day, we had partly cloudy skies, mild weather with a few rain showers and temperatures between 57 and 32 degrees. Typically, you have temperatures between 32 and 15 degrees. The record high of 59 degrees was set back in 1890.

Getting to bed at quarter to ten 🔟 because I’m tired 💤 and I plan to get up at six thirty again tomorrow 😮so things aren’t so rushed getting to work. I really like having extra time to get going in the morning and because I’m getting out at five every day now there is no excuse for staying up late.

January 6, 2020 Morning

Good morning! Monday’s come back around again. It’s a five day work week once again. Been a long time since I’ve worked a full five day week but it should be busy and go quickly. Next Monday is Make Your Dream Come True Day ๐Ÿก. Maybe that’s a bit too soon for he but I can continue to save and invest. Snow showers and 28 degrees at the Elm Ave Park & Ride – CDTA. โ„ Made for kind of a icy walk ๐Ÿšถ to the express bus ๐Ÿš this morning and I was running a little late but I made it in time. โŒš And I did not slip and fall, even those a few times it was a slosh. There is a south-southeast breeze at 6 mph. ๐Ÿƒ. There are 0.2 inches of snow on the ground. โ˜ƒ ๏ธThings will start to thaw out at around 10 am. ๐ŸŒก๏ธ

Finished off the quiche that I made up on Sunday. ๐Ÿฅง It was very good, and no I did not die or have any bad taste from cooking up the pie shell that had officially expired on November 16, 2016. ๐Ÿ˜‹ It was pretty good and used up a bunch of eggs, with lots of broccoli, ๐ŸŒฑ cheese topping ๐Ÿง€ and breadcrumbs ๐Ÿž from some stale bread in the refrigerator. Except for the issue of the broiler not working well, it came out pretty good. You know it’s good if it only lasted for two breakfasts, and I was a hurry to have it both mornings. I got to make it again, but I need more broccoli and another pie shell mix, this time maybe with an expiration date six years newer or so.

Kind of a pretty day with the snow โ„ enough to glaze up the sidewalks and ramps. There was a wreck on one of circle stack ramps โญ•๐Ÿ’ข๐Ÿš“๐Ÿš•๐Ÿš—๐Ÿš™๐Ÿš™๐Ÿšš and traffic is just generally moving slow today. Warm enough though with the salt that on the major roads, things are moving well if a bit slow. But thanks to Iran and Trump ๐ŸŽบ there are delays on the bus turn around due to the gates being closed due to the supposed terrorist warnings. It’s annoying how sometimes the bus has to wait for the gates to open and close. I guess they are supposed to keep people safe, but we know it’s mostly to make the contractors rich with security theater.โŽ

Today will have a chance of snow, mainly before 4pm. Mostly cloudy ๐ŸŒจ, with a high of 37 degrees at 1pm. Six degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical day around February 23rd. South wind 6 to 15 mph becoming west in the afternoon. Chance of precipitation is 50%. Total daytime snow accumulation of less than one inch possible. With the warmer temperatures I’m thinking the icy sidewalks won’t stick around. A year ago, we had mostly sunny skies in the morning, remaining cloudy in the afternoon. The high last year was 44 degrees. The record high of 71 was set in 2007. 12.7 inches of snow fell back in 2002.โ„

Solar noon ๐ŸŒž is at 12:02 pm with sun having an altitude of 24.9ยฐ from the due south horizon (-46ยฐ vs. 6/21). Almost to 25 degrees. Maybe tomorrow? The golden hour ๐Ÿ… starts at 3:52 pm with the sun in the southwest (232ยฐ). ๐Ÿ“ธ The sunset is in the west-southwest (240ยฐ) starting at 4:34 pm and lasts for 3 minutes and 23 seconds with dusk around 5:08 pm, which is 58 seconds later than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ‡ The best time to look at the stars is after 5:44 pm. At sunset, look for snow ๐ŸŒจ and temperatures around 36 degrees. There will be a west breeze at 15 mph. Today will have 9 hours and 11 minutes of daytime, an increase of one minute and 4 seconds over yesterday.

Tonight will be partly cloudy ๐ŸŒค, with a low of 25 degrees at 5am. 10 degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical night around March 14th. Maximum wind chill around 22 at 9pm; West wind 6 to 9 mph. In 2019, we had light snow in the evening, which became partly cloudy by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 14 degrees. The record low of -12 occurred back in 1878.

I really am enjoying the big tin of hot coca mix I got from the store. โ˜• I wanted to have hot coca for my New Years Eve Camping Trip but I couldn’t find it at Price Chopper, not my normal store, and I was running late. It’s probably good, because those little packets of hot coca don’t always burn up completely when tossed in the fire with the thin layer of aluminum foil, and I was trying to camp in a “tread lightly” fashion, doing as little noticeable damage to the forest as possible. I’m not delusional enough to believe you can camp with zero impacts, but I like to keep my campsites as clean and tidy as possible, with anything that doesn’t full burn get packed out. ๐ŸŒฒ But at home, the big tin of hot coca is wonderful — especially in coffee or on a cold evening. I can always pack some in a ziplock bag for camping. Probably a lot cheaper that way too. I do wish the container it came in was recycable — but I can probably tear off the aluminum parts for recycling and burn the rest. โ™ป I normally do not have snacks at home, ๐Ÿฌ although maybe I’ll break that tradition as this week is $2.99 for all flavors at the Stewarts Ice Cream Special Week. Yum! ๐Ÿจ I already see myself falling off the wagon. Fortunately though, I don’t ever have alcohol at home for the most part.๐Ÿบ

Another rainy but mild weekend on tap. โ˜” Saturday, rain. High near 53. Chance of precipitation is 80%. Sunday, a chance of rain and snow. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 39. Chance of precipitation is 40%. Typical average high for the weekend is 30 degrees.

At least the rain will keep the salt off the roads. ๐Ÿ’ฆI have a lot of things to do in town next weekend including starting working on the Reszin Adam’s video – and possibly heading over to John Wolcott house to work on better labels ๐Ÿ”– for his files ๐Ÿ“‚.

๐ŸŒน๐ŸŒป๐ŸŒผOnly 73 days remain until the first day of calendar spring!๐ŸŒน๐ŸŒป๐ŸŒผ

I am thinking about doing a camping trip over Martin Luther King Jr. Weekend in two weekends, ๐Ÿ• but a lot depends on the winter. This time if I do Cole Hill State Forest, I’ll make sure to leave a note on my truck where I am in case anybody reports it parked overnight. ๐Ÿ…ฟ Although, honestly if there isn’t too much snow I would truly prefer to camp up Moscow Hill Area in Brookfield — I just like seeing that beautiful farm country, ๐Ÿ„ plus it’s nice having those hardened campsites with the gravel and the pavilion. Ideally, if there is no or little snow, I could drive right back there.

As previously noted, next Monday is Make Your Dream Come True Day ๐Ÿก when the sun will be setting at 4:44 pm with dusk at 5:15 pm. On that day in 2019, we had partly sunny and temperatures between 23 and 10 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 30 degrees. We hit a record high of 71 back in 1932.
