Hump Day, and I’m out riding early ๐Ÿšฒ

Slept in a bit later then I wanted this morning but I made good time this morning and was able to go for a 45 minute ride out Meads Lane and Orchard Drive. Cows were all lumped together, staying warm in the cold. My fingers felt a bit swollen and sore when I first got back indoors but the warm shower seemed to make things feel better again.

Good morning! What day is it? Hump Day, of course. Partly sunny and 17 degrees at the Downtown Albany. There is a west breeze at 11 mph. ๐Ÿƒ. The current wind chill is 4. Honestly, I think that wind chill is an exaggeration but I’m kind of a tough mother. There are 4 inches of snow on the ground. โ˜ƒ ๏ธThings will start to thaw out at Tuesday around 9 am. ๐ŸŒก๏ธ

The morning bike ride at 6:45 AM wasn’t bad ๐Ÿšฒ though it was a bit cold at times, especially on my fingers. ๐Ÿคš I had gloves on which helped quite a bit, ๐Ÿงค but at times my fingers were cold. Riding up the hills on Orchard Avenue helped warm me up but I didn’t mind getting back home and taking that warm shower ๐Ÿšฟ before heading out to the bus. ๐ŸšŒ It turns out the later express bus works out well for the transfer to the shuttle to the suburban office, making for a commute not much longer then driving, plus it saves money and I don’t have to worry about bumping other cars, and watch videos or do other things while I ride the bus. That said, I look forward to riding to work again, but right now the rail trail is snow covered โ„๏ธ not to mention it’s a pretty cold week.

Today will be partly sunny ๐ŸŒž, with a high of 24 degrees at 3pm. Eight degrees below normal. West wind 10 to 13 mph. A year ago, we had mostly sunny skies in the morning, which became cloudy by afternoon. The high last year was 33 degrees. The record high of 62 was set in 1889. 10.9 inches of snow fell back in 1994.โ„

Moving back out to working in the suburbs is what you might expect it to be. ๐Ÿ‘จ‍๐Ÿ’ผ Very much kind of a corporate experience, working in a massive two-story sprawling building with massive open-air cubical farms, surrounded by acres of free parking. ๐Ÿ…ฟ๏ธ At least it’s convenient for parking for the weekends I plan to head out of town after work, right off the freeway. โ˜• And as much free coffee as I want and not many late nights. And it’s a bit more money and a good resume builder, which is important especially in these inflationary times. ๐Ÿ’ธ Need to study up on VIM and probably awk, as I think those programs will be essential for my new job. They have some books in the office, but I know there is a lot of Youtube videos and other sources of info about it on the internet.

Solar noon ๐ŸŒž is at 12:06 pm with sun having an altitude of 26.5° from the due south horizon (-44.3° vs. 6/21). A six foot person will cast a 12 foot shadow today compared to 2.2 feet on the first day of summer. The golden hour ๐Ÿ… starts at 4:05 pm with the sun in the southwest (234°). ๐Ÿ“ธ The sunset is in the west-southwest (242°) with the sun dropping below the horizon at 4:49 pm after setting for 3 minutes and 17 seconds with dusk around 5:19 pm, which is one minute and 12 seconds later than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ‡ At dusk you’ll see the First Quarter ๐ŸŒ“ Moon in the south (174°) at an altitude of 56° from the horizon, 228,953 miles away. ๐Ÿš€ The best time to look at the stars is after 5:55 pm. At sunset, look for partly cloudy skies ๐ŸŒƒ and temperatures around 22 degrees. The wind chill around sunset will be 11. โ˜ƒ๏ธ There will be a west breeze at 10 mph. Today will have 9 hours and 30 minutes of daytime, an increase of one minute and 43 seconds over yesterday.

Yesterday with the snow was kind of a messy commute โ„๏ธ and I was annoyed that I got on the local bus and saw shortly thereafter the very late express bus passing by. ๐ŸšŒ I just didn’t trust the real time bus info, as it kept shift as the express bus and local bus kept getting later. I though they might have canceled the express bus or I missed it as the shuttle back to the Plaza was running late due to snow, but it was accurate data. Doesn’t matter, I was still home by 6 PM.

Tonight will be partly cloudy ๐ŸŒƒ, with a low of 14 degrees at 2am. One degree below normal, which is similar to a typical Maximum wind chill around 4 at 10pm; South wind 8 to 10 mph. In 2023, we had light freezing rain in the evening, which became cloudy by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 32 degrees. The record low of -19 occurred back in 1957.

Ended up getting dinged $45 for damaged books ๐Ÿ“š from the library, but I get to pickup the books and I’ll add them to my collection. Two of my books unfortunately got wet and dirty when I was camping. ๐Ÿ• It happens, I shouldn’t bring library books winter camping I guess. Or at least plan to keep any books that I take up to the woods with me. Never a problem in the summer, but in the winter, it’s easy for dirt and wetness to get attracted to the paper. It happens, oh well. I’ve paid the fine. At least with the mild weather in December, my electric and gas bill was down, mostly because I didn’t use that much gas heat. This month though with the recent cold blast ๐ŸŒฌ it must certainly will be back up. Trying to limit my power use too by cooking efficiently with a full oven each time I cook. ๐Ÿ‘ฉ‍๐Ÿณ

Cold but clearing this weekend. โ›… Saturday, mostly cloudy, with a high near 17. Without much sun, that’s going to feel like a real cold day for sure. Sunday, sunny, with a high near 24. Typical average high for the weekend is 32 degrees. But it’s too be expected in mid-to-late January. By Tuesday, things are expected to be in the low 40s and by the second half of the week if the trend continues, looking at upper 40s. It’s really to far away to know about things though for following weekend, and heck even past Tuesday who really knows but it looks like there is a warming trend ahead.

Looking ahead, there are 4 weeks until Valentines Day โค๏ธ when the sun will be setting at 5:26 pm with dusk at 5:53 pm. On that day in 2023, we had partly sunny skies mild temperatures between 50 and 30 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 36 degrees. But maybe there is hope after all the cold. We hit a record high of 63 back in 1946.

Blue and Green

A better Thursday closing out 2023 โ˜บ

The days go by so quickly it seems, though in the case of yesterday maybe not quick enough. Things just got off on the wrong start with the smoke alarm yesterday, compared to today with warm fresh carrot bread and banana oatmeal pancakes.

Good morning! From here on out the sun will be setting after 4:30 PM ๐ŸŒ† . Slowly but surely the days are getting longer out, step by step. Rain and 44 degrees at the Elm Ave Park and Ride. โ˜” There is a north breeze at 5 mph. ๐Ÿƒ. Temperatures will drop below freezing at Saturday around 11 pm. โ˜ƒ๏ธ

After slamming my way through the morning yesterday, ๐Ÿ’ฅ it turned out to be a pretty decent day and things went fairly smoothly. I caught the express bus ๐Ÿš home and between the lunch time and an evening walk ๐Ÿšถ got my steps in for the day. Made up a bunch of whole wheat bread ๐Ÿž๐Ÿฅ– – one loaf with rye and the other with carrots ๐Ÿฅ• and was in bed by nine ๐Ÿ› and got a good night’s sleep.

Today will have a chance of showers. Patchy fog before noon. Otherwise, cloudy ๐ŸŒฆ, with a high of 47 degrees at 2pm. 12 degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical day around November 22nd. North wind 3 to 5 mph. Another mild day ahead. Chance of precipitation is 50%. New precipitation amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch possible. A year ago, we had mostly sunny skies in the morning with a few breaks of sun the afternoon. The high last year was 41 degrees. The record high of 61 was set in 1982. 7.0 inches of snow fell back in 1967.โ„

Another dreary day on tap ๐ŸŒจ๏ธ but we could be slip sliding our way through it but it’s too warm and I’m not paying for the heat. ๐Ÿ‘ฃ It’s not a bad day for walking laps around the Plaza before work and I’ll turn on that brass lamp that I like a little too much when I get to my office ๐Ÿข. I wonder if my new office will have a brass table lamp. After all that is what is truly important in the world these days. I just like shinny things that don’t harbor viruses and bacteria. ๐Ÿ›‹๏ธ

Solar noon ๐ŸŒž is at 11:57 am with sun having an altitude of 24.1ยฐ from the due south horizon (-46.7ยฐ vs. 6/21). A six foot person will cast a 13.4 foot shadow today compared to 2.2 feet on the first day of summer. The golden hour ๐Ÿ… starts at 3:44 pm with the sun in the southwest (231ยฐ). ๐Ÿ“ธ The sunset is in the west-southwest (239ยฐ) with the sun dropping below the horizon at 4:30 pm after setting for 3 minutes and 25 seconds with dusk around 5:01 pm, which is 43 seconds later than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ‡ The best time to look at the stars is after 5:37 pm. At sunset, look for rain ๐ŸŒง and temperatures around 47 degrees. There will be a north breeze at 5 mph. Today will have 9 hours and 7 minutes of daytime, an increase of 27 seconds over yesterday.

I have to admit it just was difficult to shift gears from Madison County ๐Ÿฎ back to work. It was just so much fun spending Christmas at the horse camp. ๐ŸŽ… Yes, it was damp and cold at times, with that tangy taste of manure on the air ๐Ÿ’ฉ but it seemed so far away from Albany. The mornings were so dark that I slept in pretty late. I was fortunate that I was able to get away for six days.

Tonight will have a chance of showers. Cloudy ๐ŸŒง, with a low of 41 degrees at 5am. 22 degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical night around October 17th. Light northwest wind. Chance of precipitation is 50%. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch possible. In 2022, we had mostly clear skies in the evening, which became mostly clear by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 22 degrees. The record low of -18 occurred back in 1933.

I haven’t decided if I will work from home tomorrow, ๐Ÿ’ป I have those end of the month reports to run and it would be easier to do from the office though I have bandwidth on my phone ๐Ÿ“ฑ to do it if I wanted. I would kind of like to get propane at lunch time ๐Ÿฎ and food and supplies for camping ๐Ÿ• this weekend. ๐Ÿชฅ In particular, I need toothpaste, I forgot to get that last time I was shopping on Tuesday ๐Ÿ›’ along with all important tumeric.

Mild and less wet weather to close out the 2023.๐ŸŒค๏ธ Saturday, a chance of showers, mainly before 1pm. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 42. West wind 7 to 14 mph. Chance of precipitation is 30%. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch possible. New Years Eve, partly sunny, with a high near 39. New Years Day 2024 looking at 40 degrees with more sun as the day progresses. Typical average high for the weekend is 35 degrees.

I think I’ll head up to camp โ›บ early on Saturday morning as Friday looks kind of wet. Two more nights is plenty to close out the year. ๐ŸŽ† Use up some of those sparklers and toast away the year as there is much to look forward to both good and bad in the 2024. And make sure to start dating things correctly. ๐Ÿ—“

Adirondacks

The sloppy Wednesday before Thanksgiving ๐ŸŒจ๏ธ๐ŸŒง๏ธ ๐Ÿฆƒ

I guess it started out as snow but it’s all rain, rapidly killing off the remaining snow. Basically it’s just really cold and damp out. Taking the early bus in this morning to walk laps around the Plaza Concourse before work. Not riding in this morning, lol.

Good morning! What day is it? A sloppy day before Thanksgiving, of course. ๐Ÿฆƒ I’m mostly just thinking about the Adirondacks on Friday. Rain and 39 degrees at the Elm Ave Park and Ride. โ˜” There is a northeast breeze at 6 mph. ๐Ÿƒ. There is a half inch of slop on the ground. โ˜ƒ ๏ธToo wet to call snow and it is rapidly disappearing with the rain. The dire emergency snow storm has been canceled. Temperatures will drop below freezing at Friday around 5 pm. โ˜ƒ๏ธ

The earliest Voorheesville bus ๐Ÿš is absolutely packed with state workers ๐Ÿง‘๐Ÿฝโ€โš–๏ธ which I’m surprised with the holiday being tomorrow and the year rapidly coming to a close in 39 days. ๐Ÿ—“ Next month usually traffic drops a lot both on the buses and city streets as so many people take time off before the close of the year.

Not riding Blackie ๐Ÿšต into work today, so I’m walking on the Concourse indoors. ๐Ÿช™ The bus company got my buck thirty, and I’m indoors walkin today. ๐Ÿ‘ฃ Gotta get my steps in. ๐Ÿ‘ฃ After all tomorrow is Thanksgiving ๐Ÿฆƒ and then Friday it’s off to the Adirondacks.

Got up around 5:45 am which is late for me โฐ but I was a bit tired as I woke up a few times during the night and got listening ๐Ÿ‘‚ to podcasts. ๐Ÿ“ป Pumpkin pancakes ๐Ÿฅž for breakfast. Swapping the banana ๐ŸŒ for an egg ๐Ÿฅš in the mixture definitely makes it things much more cake like. Less sweet though.

Today will have a chance of rain, mainly before 9am. Mostly cloudy ๐ŸŒง, with a high of 43 degrees at 2pm. Four degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical day around November 30th. Northeast wind 6 to 8 mph becoming northwest in the morning. Chance of precipitation is 40%. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch possible. A rather dreary day. ๐Ÿ˜” A year ago, we had cloudy skies in the morning with more sun in the afternoon. The high last year was 48 degrees. The record high of 70 was set in 1931. 9.1 inches of snow fell back in 1943.โ„

I figure they’ll let us go at two o’clock or so ๐Ÿข ๐Ÿ‘‰ ๐Ÿ˜ but with the dreary weather โ˜” there is really no reason to leave before the early express bus ๐Ÿš at four o’clock. If it was nicer and I rode my bike in like yesterday I might take the get out of jail pass ๐Ÿ›‚ but alas it’s not free. I don’t have that much time in my time bank left over.

Solar noon ๐ŸŒž is at 11:42 am with sun having an altitude of 27.3ยฐ from the due south horizon (-43.5ยฐ vs. 6/21). A six foot person will cast a 11.6 foot shadow today compared to 2.2 feet on the first day of summer. The golden hour ๐Ÿ… starts at 3:46 pm with the sun in the southwest (236ยฐ). ๐Ÿ“ธ The sunset is in the west-southwest (243ยฐ) with the sun dropping below the horizon at 4:29 pm after setting for 3 minutes and 15 seconds with dusk around 4:58 pm, which is 41 seconds earlier than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ‡ At dusk you’ll see the Waxing Gibbous ๐ŸŒ” Moon in the east-southeast (123ยฐ) at an altitude of 30ยฐ from the horizon, 227,556 miles away. ๐Ÿš€ The best time to look at the stars is after 5:34 pm. At sunset, look for partly cloudy skies ๐ŸŒƒ and temperatures around 42 degrees. There will be a north-northwest breeze at 7 mph. Today will have 9 hours and 35 minutes of daytime, a decrease of one minute and 53 seconds over yesterday.

Later today, I plan to post the Albany County Election Results ๐Ÿ—ณ to my blog in the popular format, you know the kind with turn out and drop off calculated for each election district, ๐Ÿงฎ and make up some maps. ๐Ÿ—บ

Tonight will be mostly cloudy ๐ŸŒฅ, with a low of 36 degrees at 6am. Seven degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical night around November 2nd. Northwest wind 6 to 14 mph. In 2022, we had mostly clear skies in the evening, which became mostly clear by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 24 degrees. The record low of 4 occurred back in 2018.

It seems like all that Greek yogurt, Keifer and saukraut has helped with my upset stomach that I’ve been having lately. ๐Ÿคฎ That and no bean soup, or pea soup. Maybe it was a stomach bug ๐Ÿ› that bad garlic powder I dumped down the sink or too much fiber. That said, the chicken ๐Ÿ” soup I made up last night to go with the homemade bread ๐Ÿž was good. Also opened up some of the canned pumpkin ๐ŸŽƒ to have with Greek yogurt for dessert.

Cool this weekend with temperatures running 7 degrees below normal but otherwise sunny. ๐Ÿ˜ƒ Saturday, mostly sunny, with a high near 36. Sunday, partly sunny, with a high near 41. Typical average high for the weekend is 45 degrees.

I didn’t commit to taking off Monday ๐Ÿ—ป yet as I wanted to see how much snow ๐ŸŒจ they got in the Adirondacks before deciding to go north but I think ๐Ÿค” it will be a nice and weekend if not a bit cool. But I can have hot soups, a campfire ๐Ÿ”ฅ and I’ll have my propane heater โ™จ and warm clothes for warmth.

Looking ahead, there are 2 weeks until Saint Nicholas Day ๐ŸŽ… when the sun will be setting at 4:23 pm with dusk at 4:53 pm. On that day in 2022, we had rain showers, partly cloudy, mild weather with temperatures between 54 and 39 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 41 degrees. We hit a record high of 68 back in 2001.

Rainy start to for Regular Deer Season in Southern Zone ๐ŸฆŒ

I bet those people sitting in their deer stands this morning are shivering, fighting off hypothermia thinking they probably won’t get their big buck despite the statistics that show two thirds are harvested today. I’m quite okay being inside this morning, enjoying my eggs and spinach, along with the homemade bread, sweet potatoes and butternut squash that I baked starting a little after 5 AM this morning.

Good morning! Rain and 45 degrees in Delmar, NY. โ˜” There is a north-northwest breeze at 9 mph. ๐Ÿƒ. Temperatures will drop below freezing at tomorrow around midnight tonight. โ˜ƒ๏ธ Kind of a yucky morning, temperature is going to drift downwards as more sun appears later with a steady breeze to keep things good and cool for the balance of the day. That said it’s mild enough, that the heat is off, though I have plenty of warmth inside after all that cooking this morning. ๐Ÿ‘ฉ‍๐Ÿณ

While I don’t really need to get up at 5 AM on my day off โฐ I wake up that hour, especially as I was asleep before 8 PM last night as it was such a dreary night and I lacked the energy to do my evening walk, ๐Ÿƒ‍โ™€๏ธ though to be fair, I did get in 10,000 steps ๐Ÿ‘ฃ for the day, rode my bike 7 3/4 miles to work via the rail trail ๐Ÿšฒ, walked laps at lunch time on the Plaza and then did the stairs up and down to my 18th floor office downtown. I do note that once I move to the suburban North Albany office in a few weeks though it’s going to be more difficult to do the stairs, though I am thinking I’ll probably transfer buses a the Empire Plaza and can walk laps there or days I ride in it’s a bit longer of a ride then downtown, though not the Madison Avenue Hill, though lately I’ve been using Arch Street/Warren Street past the Albany City Jail ๐Ÿ‘ฎ‍โ™€๏ธ and then heading up Park Avenue and Museum Road (yes, the wrong way on a one way street) to the Plaza to avoid the worse of the hill. ๐Ÿคท‍โ™‚๏ธ ๐Ÿคฃ

I was thinking blueberry pancakes this morning ๐Ÿฅž ๐Ÿ‘Ž ๐Ÿณ but ended up deciding I so love the onions, tomatoes, spinach and eggs for a more protein packed day that will keep me going all day. Also cooked up some kidney beans, I am thinking of making homemade spaghetti sauce from canned tomatoes, chop up some onions, cumin and red pepper with peas and spinach thrown over some chickpea pasta ๐Ÿ for dinner tonight. Along with a generous side of butternut squash and maybe some of the sweet potatoes. ๐Ÿ  ๐Ÿ†

Lunch is going to be some leftover beef stew I got from my parents house about two or three weeks ago that’s been frozen, tossed over some peas and sweet potatoes. ๐Ÿ˜‹ I need to use up some of the leftovers I keep taking home from my parents house. I often forget about left overs. Mom makes good food, even if it is more calorie dense then I would prefer, but then again maybe I’ve gotten a bit extreme with my own cooking. ๐Ÿ‘จ‍๐Ÿณ I just don’t want slip back into the old life of being so heavy and out of shape. The left over stew should be real tasty. ๐Ÿฒ I can’t complain, mom’s home cooking won’t be around forever, as she’s getting up there in the years, and it’s something you can only enjoy until you no longer can.

Having that extra pot of coffee โ˜• this morning, with the cinnamon and ginger. I am not planning on heading out until a while, and only to the library, so if I spend my day pissing it away, I don’t care. I just like an extra cup or three on this cold morning, with that rich tangy taste of cinnamon and ginger. Plus yesterday when I was walking I started to feel a bit achy, ๐Ÿ˜ฃ first time in a long time, apparently the turmeric with the spinach, onions and eggs isn’t enough to overcome all those stairs I’ve climbed ๐Ÿง—‍โ™€๏ธ over the past week, lol. ๐Ÿคฃ What can I say, I’m getting ducking old ๐Ÿฆ† in a few weeks I’ll be 41. That means two decades have passed since I can legally drink and that first time I went out to the bar with the Young Democrats.  I just remember that night at the Lionheart Cafe downtown, and how much that bar stunk of alcohol ๐Ÿป I think because it was right after they had banned smoking at bars ๐Ÿšญ and they hadn’t gotten good at cleaning all that spilled beer. Or maybe the Lionheart was more of a dive college bar back in the day.

Today will have showers likely, mainly before 7am. Cloudy through mid morning, then gradual clearing ๐ŸŒง ๐Ÿ‘‰ ๐ŸŒž, with a high of 45 degrees at 6am. Three degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical day around November 25th. North wind 9 to 13 mph. Chance of precipitation is 60%. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch possible. A year ago, we had cloudy skies in the morning with more sun in the afternoon. The high last year was 43 degrees. The record high of 71 was set in 1928. 9.0 inches of snow fell back in 1980.โ„

I am thinking I’ll watch and do some more of the Udemeny Course on Remote Sensing ๐Ÿ›ฐ and then shower and go down to the library ๐Ÿ“š so I can use the internet on my laptop this morning without working about data use at 10 AM. Then maybe check out the Bethlehem Sportsmart at 1 PM for skis, โ›ท and then in the afternoon ride out to Voorheesville, maybe visiting Indian Ladder Farms for apples. ๐ŸŽ Or I could just get apples at Price Chopper on Sunday. Also want to see if I can repair my broken vacuum cleaner. Also thinking about doing some soldering and working on an electronics project this evening. I haven’t done much electronics in a while now. ๐Ÿค“

Solar noon ๐ŸŒž is at 11:41 am with sun having an altitude of 28.2° from the due south horizon (-42.6° vs. 6/21). A six foot person will cast a 11.2 foot shadow today compared to 2.2 feet on the first day of summer. The golden hour ๐Ÿ… starts at 3:49 pm with the sun in the west-southwest (237°). ๐Ÿ“ธ The sunset is in the west-southwest (244°) with the sun dropping below the horizon at 4:32 pm after setting for 3 minutes and 14 seconds with dusk around 5:01 pm, which is 49 seconds earlier than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ‡ At dusk you’ll see the First Quarter ๐ŸŒ“ Moon in the south (185°) at an altitude of 24° from the horizon, 227,672 miles away. ๐Ÿš€ The best time to look at the stars is after 5:37 pm. At sunset, look for clear skies ๐ŸŒ„ and temperatures around 42 degrees. There will be a northwest breeze at 11 mph. Today will have 9 hours and 43 minutes of daytime, a decrease of 2 minutes and 3 seconds over yesterday.

Tonight will be mostly clear ๐ŸŒƒ, with a low of 31 degrees at 3am. Typical for tonight. Northwest wind 5 to 9 mph becoming light and variable. In 2022, we had cloudy skies in the evening, which became mostly clear by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 21 degrees. The record low of 12 occurred back in 1972.

Pretty much typical weather for this evening. ๐Ÿ›Œ I’ll probably head to bed pretty early as it gets dark out so early, and I prefer an earlier start. I want to get to Price Chopper tomorrow morning before the crowds ๐Ÿ›’ and get the groceries I need for the week with my coupons. ๐ŸŽซ And then get up and going on the day. Maybe ride out to Five Rivers ๐Ÿฆ to enjoy the sunshine and cold before heading out to the folks house for Sunday dinner. ๐Ÿฒ They are making chilli which should be good.

Going to shop at Price Chopper come Sunday as I have two $5 off $50 coupons, ๐ŸŽซ giving one to mom and one for my own use. Plus I have a $2 off $10 in meat or fish coupon to use, I’ll probably stock up on frozen salmon for the next time I decide to bake up some salmon. ๐Ÿ  I haven’t had salmon in a few weeks, and I think I don’t have any more in my freezer currently but its an excellent source of omega-3 fats. ๐Ÿ˜‹

Looking ahead, next Saturday is Small Business Saturday ๐Ÿ›๏ธ when the sun will be setting at 4:27 pm with dusk at 4:56 pm. On that day in 2022, we had mostly cloudy, rain showers and temperatures between 49 and 40 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 45 degrees. We hit a record high of 64 back in 2004.

I am watching the forecast, ๐ŸŒจ especially to see how much snow they get up north on Wednesday, but I’m hopeful to head up to the Adirondacks come Friday, to camp and maybe hike or possibly ski along the East Branch more likely. ๐Ÿ• I would probably take off Cyber Monday so I can have a three-day weekend, as I’ve been planning for some time now, though I am running a bit low on vacation time for the year, and don’t want to drop below 210 hours for the year if I can avoid it to maximize my roll over into next year, where I may need the extra hours to cover time spent working at the campaign committee along with trips I plan for the summer and autumn. ๐Ÿ‘ฉ‍๐Ÿ’ป That said, I’m hopeful to do remote work at times next year, so maybe I can extend some of my camping trips while working from the Spectulator Library or the hotspot and my laptop in a hammock from camp. But not until spring time, as it’s too cold and not enough solar in autumn.

Gray Day

Maybe some Radical Acceptance is the key to climbing the Hump Day ๐Ÿช

Kind of a pretty sunrise this morning and it should be a nice bike ride to work. I’ll close out that background I’m reviewing, call back the doctor, call the General about the airbag, move forward. It’s kind of the midpoint of everything but I’m moving forward.

Good morning! What day is it? A Day I’m Embracing, of course. Mostly clear and 52 degrees in Delmar for the morning walk. ๐ŸŒ… Calm wind. The dew point is 45 degrees.

Yes, I’m actually out walking ๐Ÿšถ this morning. The past few days I’ve been bad, though I either rode my bike to work ๐Ÿšฒ or walked the Plaza before work on Monday. Tuesday’s ride to work wasn’t bad though I think ๐Ÿค” I should lubricate the chain ๐Ÿ”— again before heading to work. Mornings are dark and there is such a short window before the smoldering cars along the road at the High School ๐Ÿšธ start. It’s just toxic and noxious to walk past all those idling cars along the road.

More fresh bread ๐Ÿž was baked this morning. Experimenting with yeast, sugar and water to get more rise and perfect ๐Ÿ‘Œ my bread. Apple oatmeal pancakes ๐Ÿฅž for breakfast this morning. Last night was salmon with sweet potatoes ๐Ÿ  and onions with lemon ๐Ÿ‹ which was tasty with mango for dessert. I’m not complaining about buying a big bag of frozen mango at the store on Monday. Eating well, but not too many calories, though I have to be careful about all those carbs in fresh-homemade bread, though no added sugar and it’s whole wheat. Getting a better rise this time. Now I got to make more walnut butter up. Okay, I’ve totally fallen off the healthy-eating rocker.

Today will be sunny ๐ŸŒž, with a high of 70 degrees at 3pm. Three degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical day around September 26th. Maximum dew point of 50 at 10am. Light and variable wind becoming northwest 5 to 9 mph in the morning. A year ago, we had light rain in the morning, which became mostly sunny by afternoon. It was somewhat humid. The high last year was 75 degrees. The record high of 90 was set in 1946.

To wear jeans ๐Ÿ‘– or not? That’s the question, though I only have three pair that fit me properly. That said, I can probably wear the same pair of jeans twice. Maybe though today is cooler day, so better to wear jeans today and then shorts tomorrow, with jeans again on Friday. I don’t care about the weekend, I can always wear baggy jeans or re-wear somewhat dirty ones, especially if I go camping or just take the Nature Bus ๐Ÿšต‍โ™€๏ธ to ride trails up at Thacher Park.

Solar noon ๐ŸŒž is at 12:50 pm with sun having an altitude of 48.5° from the due south horizon (-22.3° vs. 6/21). A six foot person will cast a 5.3 foot shadow today compared to 2.2 feet on the first day of summer. The golden hour ๐Ÿ… starts at 6:21 pm with the sun in the west (266°). ๐Ÿ“ธ The sunset is in the west (272°) with the sun dropping below the horizon at 6:59 pm after setting for 2 minutes and 54 seconds with dusk around 7:25 pm, which is one minute and 47 seconds earlier than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ‡ At dusk you’ll see the First Quarter ๐ŸŒ“ Moon in the south-southwest (212°) at an altitude of 16° from the horizon, 236,305 miles away. ๐Ÿš€ The best time to look at the stars is after 8:00 pm. At sunset, look for clear skies ๐ŸŒ„ and temperatures around 65 degrees. The dew point will be 49 degrees. There will be a northwest breeze at 8 mph. Tomorrow will have 12 hours and 16 minutes of daytime, a decrease of 2 minutes and 52 seconds over today.

Riding Blackie to work today, ๐Ÿšฒ it might be a cool start to the morning but should be a beautiful commute both and to and from work. I just need to dress warmly and be careful on way back with all the cars in shadows. ๐Ÿ‘ป I have to admit I can’t wait for the leaves to be off the trees ๐ŸŒฒ for better visibility on some of the intersections during the commute. But then it will likely be dark out ๐ŸŒ† and I’ll have to take the bus home in the evening, โ„๏ธ not to mention that the rail trail will get covered with snow and ice, to say nothing of it being cold to ride.

So I have a list of things to do today. ๐Ÿ“ƒ I need to call the doctor back about my blood work, though it’s hardly a priority as I’ve stopped having the pissing problem ๐Ÿšฝ once I cut back on drinking so much coffee in the morning โ˜• and are more careful about how much water is in my oatmeal and eating too much zucchini ๐Ÿ† and tomatoes ๐Ÿ…. I think that friend of mine who got my so worked up about my weight loss is a jerk. Also, no overnight oatmeal ๐Ÿฅฃ before or fresh peaches ๐Ÿ‘ during road trips anymore. Might be easy until you find yourself pissing every five minutes. Also going to call the General about when I can have the air bag inflator recall replaced on Big Red, lest I get into an accident with somebody in the passenger seat. ๐ŸŽˆ The Taka Airbag Recall is kind of serious, but I rarely have a passenger, so I didn’t really care.

Tonight will have patchy fog between 4am and 5am. Otherwise, mostly clear ๐ŸŒƒ, with a low of 44 degrees at 6am. Seven degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical night around October 7th. Northwest wind 3 to 7 mph. In 2022, we had mostly clear skies in the evening, which became cloudy by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 57 degrees. The record low of 29 occurred back in 1973.

Went down to the library last night ๐Ÿ“š returned a bunch of books and looked and browsed books, but didn’t end up taking out anything. Sure gets dark out early, ๐Ÿ‘ฃ but I got my steps in. Tonight, I am thinking after a dinner of tomato and spinach wraps on homemade whole-wheat flatbread, ๐ŸŒฏ I will go for a walk ๐Ÿšถ‍โ™€๏ธ around dusk for my steps ๐Ÿ‘ฃ and maybe start going through clothes, putting away most of my summer clothes and things that are too big to fit and getting out some of the clothes John Wolcott’s wife gifted to me, along with some other things that fit well like I got from dad. ๐Ÿ‘• I’m tired of looking like a concentration camp survivor, or having to dig through so many big clothes that don’t fit anymore.

Still chewing over the blog, โœ I mean I like doing it, but it’s a lot of money but then again it’s three years and blogging gives me a lot of pleasure.  I guess it’s not that big of a hike from three years ago, but it feels like. Used to be a lot less cost. ๐Ÿค‘ I really could improve some of the code, get rid of some of the outdated crap and just make things a ton more efficient. There is a lot of things on the blog that are obsolete or old and outdated, and should be removed, as sometimes they randomly pop up on search engines. ๐Ÿ” And what I said years ago isn’t necessarily who I am today.

Somewhat of an improvement for the weekend. ๐ŸŒฅ Saturday, mostly cloudy, with a high near 67. Maximum dew point of 55 at 4pm. Sunday, a chance of showers before 2pm. Partly sunny, with a high near 71. Chance of precipitation is 30%. Maximum dew point of 59 at 11am. Typical average high for the weekend is 72 degrees.

It’s been going back and forth on the weekend, but I am thinking it will be stay-in-town weekend for heading out mountain biking at Thacher Park. ๐Ÿšต‍โ™€๏ธ Maybe I’ll ride down from the park after trail riding, though I think I will skip the trip down to Warner’s Lake as that was a good trip back up there. Sunday I’ll probably go out to the folks house for Sunday dinner, ๐Ÿฝ and who knows I could go somewhere else to ride trail. I know they’ve built a good network of mountain bike trails on Wolf Hill, that might be fun to do. Ultimately depends on how wet the weekend turns out to be.

As previously noted, next Wednesday is More Night then Day ๐ŸŒŒ when the sun will be setting at 6:46 pm with dusk at 7:12 pm. On that day in 2022, we had partly cloudy, rain showers and temperatures between 68 and 50 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 70 degrees. We hit a record high of 89 back in 2017.

 Old Mill

A Rainy Hump Day โ˜”

It looks like it’s going to be a wet one for at least a few more hours and then some clearing. I’m not moving fast, I stayed up too late after doing some cleaning in the kitchen putting away clothes and fine tuning the indexing on my bike after really greasing up the gears, leading to some good smooth shifting again.

Good morning! What day is it? A wet one, of course. Rain and 64 degrees at the Elm Ave Park and Ride. โ˜” Calm wind. The dew point is 64 degrees. The skies will clear around 8 pm.

I’m really not in the groove this morning, moving slowly but surely though the eggs and spinach ๐Ÿณ are helping a bit. I didn’t catch the earlier express bus ๐Ÿš downtown, so I can do some extra steps in the Plaza but maybe not as many as I should before work but I’ll get off my butt and certainly do the stairs up to the 18th floor.

Totally ignored the doctors advice โ˜• and had the extra cup of coffee this morning. ๐Ÿง‘โ€โš•๏ธAnd hot peppers with the eggs so I’ll probably have to piss extra but whatever I’ll be in the office and I’m not taking my bike to work. ๐ŸšณI thought about putting the bike on the bus but I figured between the rain and riding on the front of the bus down the expressway in the rain my grease job would be for naught by the afternoon commute. Traffic will be heavy at rush hour and I won’t be able to get exercise while riding the bus ๐Ÿš home but I can walk ๐Ÿšถ after getting home. Forgot to get the salmon out of the freezer before work ๐Ÿ  so I’ll have to plan something else. Maybe finish off the sweet corn ๐ŸŒฝ and I guess I can defrost some chicken in the microwave if I’m really looking for something warm for dinner. Or maybe just heat up some of soup or rice-lentils I have in the fridge. ๐Ÿคทโ€โ™‚๏ธ

Today will have showers, with thunderstorms also possible after 2pm. ๐ŸŒฆ High of 73 degrees at 3pm. Three degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical day around September 19th. Maximum dew point of 65 at 12pm. ๐Ÿ–๏ธ Calm wind. Chance of precipitation is 100%. New rainfall amounts between a quarter and half of an inch possible. A year ago, we had light rain. It was humid. The high last year was 79 degrees. The record high of 92 was set in 1948.

Solar noon ๐ŸŒž is at 12:52 pm with sun having an altitude of 51.3ยฐ from the due south horizon (-19.6ยฐ vs. 6/21). A six foot person will cast a 4.8 foot shadow today compared to 2.2 feet on the first day of summer. The golden hour ๐Ÿ… starts at 6:34 pm with the sun in the west (270ยฐ). ๐Ÿ“ธ The sunset is in the west (276ยฐ) with the sun dropping below the horizon at 7:11 pm after setting for 2 minutes and 55 seconds with dusk around 7:37 pm, which is one minute and 46 seconds earlier than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ‡ The best time to look at the stars is after 8:13 pm. At sunset, look for partly cloudy skies ๐ŸŒƒ and temperatures around 67 degrees. The dew point will be 62 degrees. There will be a calm wind. Today will have 12 hours and 39 minutes of daytime, a decrease of 2 minutes and 50 seconds over yesterday.

I was thinking ๐Ÿ’ญ today would be the day to go to Walmart ๐Ÿ›’ and get all the things on my list ๐Ÿ“ƒ that Hannaford didn’t have at a good price, but I might wait until tomorrow as I want to go for an evening walk and then I can get fresh spinach, berries or anything else I might want. I think it will be warm enough tomorrow to wear shorts to work but I want to try on 34×32 pants ๐Ÿ‘– for l size before I order a few more pair online. I’m going to one of these days put most of my XXL clothes into the attic, as they really don’t fit well anymore and they really look like when I wear them I’m starving and just got out of a concentration camp. Plus between the too large and good fitting clothes, I really have too many to put in my dresser.

Tonight will be partly cloudy ๐ŸŒƒ , with a low of 53 degrees at 5am. Typical for tonight. Maximum dew point of 62 at 6pm. Calm wind. In 2022, we had mostly clear skies in the evening, which became cloudy by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 57 degrees. The record low of 32 occurred back in 1963.

Weekend still looks cool and sunny, though some models show more clouds then sun on Saturday. ๐Ÿ˜Ž Saturday, partly sunny, with a high near 72. Maximum dew point of 53 at 4pm. Sunday, mostly sunny, with a high near 76. Maximum dew point of 56 at 12pm. Typical average high for the weekend is 75 degrees.

Looking ahead but not necessarily forward, there are 2 weeks until More Night then Day ๐ŸŒŒ when the sun will be setting at 6:46 pm with dusk at 7:12 pm. I guess it means more time by the campfire in the evening. ๐Ÿ”ฅ On that day in 2022, we had partly cloudy, rain showers and temperatures between 68 and 50 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 70 degrees. We hit a record high of 89 back in 2017.

Indian Ladder Farms

Twenty two years ago on this September 11th ๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ

Hard to believe it was 22 years ago that I was a freshman in college at Hudson Valley Community College on that day with the bright blue skies, listening to Amy Goodman and seeing those terrorist attacks on television at my college statistics class before college adjourned for the day and I spent it just walking along High Point Road in Berne, looking up and noticing the skies without airplanes above.

Good morning! Rain showers and 69 degrees in Delmar. โ˜” Calm wind. The dew point is 65 degrees. The skies will clear Wednesday around 11 pm.

Catching the earlier express bus ๐Ÿš downtown so I walk ๐Ÿšถ in the Plaza before work as it’s really not a particularly nice day. Kind of a dreary autumn day, though at least not so hot. Certainly not the crisp, clear day of 22 years ago. I don’t want to go back to those days with all trials and tribulations ahead of me as I started in college, ๐ŸŽ“ it’s kind of nice to be in the midlife even if things aren’t perfect every day. That was quite a time, when so much possibility ahead existed, when I was learning so much and changing so quickly. I was bad yesterday, didn’t get my steps in, ๐Ÿ‘ฃ but this morning I plan to do the stairs maybe twice at work, and walk the Plaza in an attempt to get in 10,000 steps for the day.

Twenty two years is a long time โณ even if in the grand scheme of things it’s not. 14 ½ years from now my mom was pointing out I will be 55 years old and if I’m still working for the state at that point I’ll have in close to 30 years and can collect my Tier 4 pension if I decide to do alternative things. ๐Ÿ’ต Maybe move out west, have that off-grid homestead property I want. By then I’m hoping to have $1.5 million in assets put away though some I won’t be able to tap until 59 1/2 (IRA) but it’s still young enough that if I stay healthy and continue to improve my physical shape there is a lot of possibilities at that age. September 11th in 2001 seems like just yesterday but it was a long time ago now. ๐Ÿ™

Today will have showers likely, with thunderstorms also possible after 1pm. Mostly cloudy ๐ŸŒฆ, with a high of 71 degrees at 1pm. Five degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical day around September 24th. Maximum dew point of 67 at 1pm. Calm wind becoming north 5 to 7 mph in the morning. Chance of precipitation is 60%. New rainfall amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms. A year ago, we had mostly sunny skies in the morning, remaining cloudy in the afternoon. It was somewhat humid. The high last year was 74 degrees. The record high of 98 was set in 1931.

Listening to Where Were You When the World Stopped Turning while doing my morning walk ๐Ÿšถ around the Plaza. I’m actually surprised there is less of a police ๐Ÿ‘ฎ presence as there was in years past on the anniversary. I guess September 11th has been forgotten but then again it was more than a generation ago now – and I’m sure the threat analysis by terrorism center kept the color code green or blue. I remember that day so well, listening to the attacks live with Amy Goodman on Democracy Now, followed by that somewhat old lady troublemaker sounding Rezsin Adams who read ๐Ÿ“– from the Nation Magazine like she did every morning after Democracy Now on WRPI. It’s been decades now since she was kicked off the radio, ๐Ÿ“ป and going on three years since her passing. It’s good I got to know her when I was at her house folding the Save the Pine Bush newsletter.

Solar noon ๐ŸŒž is at 12:53 pm with sun having an altitude of 52° from the due south horizon (-18.8° vs. 6/21). A six foot person will cast a 4.7 foot shadow today compared to 2.2 feet on the first day of summer. The golden hour ๐Ÿ… starts at 6:38 pm with the sun in the west (271°). ๐Ÿ“ธ The sunset is in the west (277°) with the sun dropping below the horizon at 7:15 pm after setting for 2 minutes and 55 seconds with dusk around 7:41 pm, which is one minute and 46 seconds earlier than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ‡ The best time to look at the stars is after 8:17 pm. At sunset, look for rain ๐ŸŒง and temperatures around 70 degrees. The dew point will be 65 degrees. There will be a north breeze at 6 mph. Today will have 12 hours and 44 minutes of daytime, a decrease of 2 minutes and 50 seconds over yesterday.

Yesterday, after a few hours of cussing including on Facebook ๐Ÿคฌ and playing around with controls on my bike and some internet research, I got the bicycle shifting smoothly again. โš™ ๐Ÿšฒ I think what happened is a snagged the front derailleur cable on some bushes when I was riding at the back country at Thacher Park, plus over the past 750 miles or so of riding, cables have stretched. I think it’s good enough for now, though come the end of the year, I’ll take Blackie to the shop for a full tune up — the gears professionally adjusted for smooth shifting along with the wheels trued again. ๐Ÿšต‍โ™€๏ธ If I have continued problems with noisy operation or rough shifting, I will just take it back to Steiner Sports to get tuned up and maybe that cable replaced in the front. Sucks I have to put more money into the bike already, but in the grand scheme of things it’s not going to cost that much, even in these inflationary times. The gear adjusting is actually pretty simple to do, I can’t imagine they would charge a small fortune for 5 minutes on the bike stand to index the gears.

I also glued back together the lid on my mini food processor/chopped ๐Ÿ‘จ‍๐Ÿณ and it’s working fine after shattering yesterday, but I got looking at getting a full-sized food processor with a dough blade and a big enough motor to knead dough. I would then “retire” my mini-food to my camping supplies, as it works well enough now glued together but I really want something for more power for at home, especially if want to use it to help automate the bread and dough making processor, make chickpea and red lentil flower, larger batches of hummus, etc. ๐Ÿž ๐ŸŒ I don’t mind kneading dough, but it sure would be convenient to dump the ingredients in, have things kneaded for me without a full bread machine. Looking at $60 model at Wally World, which is not a super high-end but should do that trick with enough power, assuming my dough aren’t so sticky and far more powerful then the 70 watt mini processor.  Truth be told I don’t need the mini-food processor for camping, but I sure like the sauces it makes, and how it mills the oatmeal perfectly for oatmeal-banana pancakes, and perfectly scrambled eggs. And it really has minimal current draw on the inverter.

I am a little worried about money, ๐Ÿค‘ but this week is a pay week and my credit card bill gets retired on Friday automatically, so that will help restore my credit limit. It’s funny but when you do the Autopay, it does it the date the bill is due, so it really covers the cost of summer vacation now. Plus I’ve had more costs with inflation, high food and gas prices โ›ฝ and a lot more summer travel over the past few months — to say nothing of getting more spices and kitchen supplies for doing more cooking. ๐Ÿฅ˜ But it’s good as eating healthier is an investment in my future. And it most of my concerns are short-term, if I have to move money around for a few days from a rainy day fund, it’s not the end of the world.

Tonight will be scattered showers, mainly before 7pm. Patchy fog after 2am. Otherwise, mostly cloudy โ˜๏ธ, with a low of 61 degrees at 5am. Seven degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical night around August 19th. Maximum dew point of 66 at 6pm. North wind around 6 mph becoming calm after midnight. Chance of precipitation is 30%. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch possible. In 2022, we had light rain in the evening, which became cloudy by the early hours of the morning. It was humid. It got down to 65 degrees. The record low of 36 occurred back in 1875.

I think I might have a bladder infection ๐Ÿšฝ as I am going to the doctor’s this afternoon to get checked out. For a while I was chocking going to the bathroom at night and having to stop so much when traveling to just eating a lot of fresh fruits and vegetables with farm stand season underway, especially all those aciditic tomatoes and peaches, ๐Ÿ‘ ๐Ÿ… but I was talking to my parents this weekend, and I think it’s best to get it checked out, especially before it could spread to my kidneys. Turns out it’s a simple test, and then antibotics if necessary. And then relief from pissing all of the time. It’s kind of bad that I can’t go anywhere these days without needing a pee break every hour or so, especially in the morning. Maybe I need to cut back on the coffee but I think I might also have an issue — and I’ve noticed some soreness since Friday.

Cool almost autumn like weekend ahead. ๐Ÿ‚ Maybe the North Country will have it’s first hints of autumn this weekend. I thought about heading north, but I think I’d rather wait for more color. It will be refreshing after all the heat and humidity of late. Saturday, mostly sunny, with a high near 72. Maximum dew point of 53 at 12pm. Sunday, mostly sunny, with a high near 75. Maximum dew point of 58 at 12pm. Typical average high for the weekend is 75 degrees. ๐Ÿ˜€

This weekend I would like to head out of town. โ›บ Maybe Rennselearville State Forest or hammock camping at Cole Hill State Forest is an inexpensive option, I know mom wants me to go apple ๐Ÿ picking with dad come Sunday. Not totally sure, the sunsets are so much earlier this time of year. If I want to head north, it’s best to take off Friday and just leave early that day to get north. That said, I think I’d rather wait until there is more color for a trip up north. ๐Ÿ‚ I wouldn’t mind a couple of quiet nights in the woods, even though the nights are much longer now, and some trail riding.

Looking ahead but not forward, next Monday is 7 PM Sunset ๐ŸŒ† with dusk at 7:28 pm. On that day in 2022, we had rain and temperatures between 80 and 62 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 74 degrees. We hit a record high of 91 back in 1891.
