December 18, 2019 Morning

Good morning! Happy Save the Pine Bush Dinner Day! ๐Ÿ˜‹ It should as always be a good dinner at the Westminster Presbyterian Church downtown at 6 PM. It’s also Bake Cookies Day ๐Ÿช! Cookies are good but I don’t believe in having them at home because they’re unhealthy and unnecessary expense. I do sometimes have them at camp or at parties, they’re great when they’re fresh out of a camp oven. Next Wednesday is Christmas ๐ŸŽ…. I do find that a bit hard to believe, but honestly I’m more excited about the following Saturday and heading out to the Finger Lakes to camp.๐Ÿ• Clear and sunny, bright around 27 degrees in Delmar, NY.ย ๐ŸŒž There is a west-southwest breeze at 6 mph. ๐Ÿƒ. There are 4 inches of fresh and very white snow on the ground. โ˜ƒ Made for a rather bright walk down to the express bus, almost wish I had sunglasses. ๐Ÿ˜Ž Going to be a cold one the next few days — tThings will start to thaw out at Sunday around noontime but I’m hoping the sun and wind will help melt things away even when its below freezing. ๐ŸŒก๏ธ

It was a bit of an icy walk down to the express bus ๐Ÿš but I left in plenty of time to get there in time โŒš. The sidewalks weren’t bad but they were a bit slippery in parts. I ended up walking on the shoulder the last bit so I wasn’t slip sliding my way all the way down there, as I wouldn’t want to slip and walking in the snow is annoying. So bright though with the sun and gleaming sun — it seems dark in contrast on the bus.โ˜€ While it’s going to be cold today, I’m hoping with the sun and the wind, and some salt the sidewalks will be good by tomorrow although it might be too cold to walk down to the express tomorrow. That said, they’re have been negative 15 days when I’ve walked down to the express bus int he past. Winter is here, for a little while, but I expect a warm up by next week with the latest forecast.โ™จ

Today will have a chance of snow showers, mainly after noon. Some of the snow squalls could be heavy at times, leading to white out conditions and very dangerous travel conditions. Weatherman says check the radar before you get on the expressway. Clear going this morning into work, and hopefully it won’t impact my commute home after the Pine Bush Dinner. Mostly cloudy ๐ŸŒฆ, with a high of 31 degrees at 12pm. Four degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical Southwest wind 6 to 15 mph, with gusts as high as 25 mph. Chance of precipitation is 50%. Total daytime snow accumulation of less than a half inch possible. A year ago, we had mostly sunny skies in the morning with some clearing in the afternoon. The high last year was 30 degrees. The record high of 60 was set in 1921. 17 inches of snow fell back in 1887.โ„

The sun will set at 4:23 pm with dusk around 4:55 pm, which is 20 seconds later than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ‡ At sunset, watch out for snow squallsย  ๐ŸŒจ and falling temperatures around 27 degrees. The wind chill around sunset will be 15. โ˜ƒ๏ธ There will be a west-northwest breeze at 15 mph with gusts up to 25mph. Today will have 9 hours and 3 minutes of daytime, a decrease of 18 seconds over yesterday.

Tonight will have a chance of snow showers, mainly before 11pm. Mostly cloudy ๐ŸŒง, with a low of 5 degrees at 5am. 15 degrees below normal. Maximum wind chill around -8 at 2am; Northwest wind around 15 mph, with gusts as high as 25 mph. Chilly night ahead, I left the heat turned up a bit so it won’t be too cold. Chance of precipitation is 30%. New snow accumulation of less than a half inch possible. In 2018, we had mostly clear skies in the evening, which became mostly clear by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 16 degrees. The record low of -13 occurred back in 1973.

Project SCORE, the world’s first communications satellite, is launched today in 1958. ๐Ÿ“ก Still an important communication technology, although the lag between sending and receiving, and the limits on bandwidth mean that for most communications people use fiber optics these days. I guess some rural households use satellite dishes for television reception and internet, but from what I’ve heard it’s hardly ideal due to the long lags in the signal. ๐Ÿ“ถ

It looks like the weekend has improved somewhat in recent forecasts, especially on the second half of the weekend. ๐ŸŒค Saturday, mostly cloudy, with a high near 28. Sunday, mostly sunny, with a high near 37. Typical average high for the weekend is 34 degrees.

So as I noted last night, I’m planning on staying in town this weekend. I want to get that voltage switch set up, and I don’t know how busy I will be Saturday after the Pine Bush Hike ๐Ÿšถ๐ŸŒฒ๐ŸŒฒ๐ŸŒณ for some filming for the Reszin Adams.๐Ÿ“ฝ It’s going to still be fairly cold, and the following weekend looks increasingly nice, if it’s not too cloudy and muddy. Might actually have some rain a week from Friday, followed by several days above freezing, which could be problematic, in the sense that the woods might turn all to mud.

I think I will mount the voltage switch in the back next to the inverter and tap power off the the line that goes up to the USB charging ports I have back there, as I have both positive and negative there to tap into easily. ๐Ÿ”˜ From there I will run the positive output of the voltage switch to a diode to protect the voltage switch from any induced current spikes when the relay closes. ๐Ÿ”„ While I’m not sure if this is totally necessary, a few years back I tried to build a relay position indicator with LEDs, and I kept blowing LEDs out when I would switch it on and off a few times due to current spikes (any magnet will create a reverse electrical spike when current is broken, e.g. inductance). ๐ŸงฒFrom the diode, I’ll run an “exciter” line to the switch that currently turns on when the engine is on, and hook another diode between the engine input and output so I don’t back-feed current and accidentally turn on the CB radio and dash cam when the solar panel comes on.

Looking ahead, there are 3 weeks until Bubble Bath Day ๐Ÿงผ when the sun will be setting at 4:38 pm with dusk at 5:10 pm. On that day in 2019, we had cloudy, mild, rain showers and temperatures between 41 and 29 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 30 degrees. We hit a record high of 60 back in 2008.

Northwood Club Road near Huntley Pond

October 21, 2019 Morning

Good morning! Monday’s come back around again. Monday meetings, plans, and work. Fun shit. At least I don’t preg test cows for living. And we are getting through the year. I had some Christmas music ๐ŸŽ„ come on my radio and actually listened to it for a while. Next Monday is Average High is 55 ๐Ÿ‚. Fog, mist and 42 degrees in Delmar, NY. ๐ŸŒ Calm wind.

It’s less than two weeks until November. ๐ŸŽƒ A week from Friday. That said November is my favorite month of the year, especially if the snow โ›„ and the cold hold off as they often they do this time of year. I’ve had many adventures in the last month before it gets very snowy and cold in December.

Come November I’ll need to get Big Red inspected. ๐Ÿš™ I’ll probably just drop it off at the dealership and pick it up after work. That’s the easiest option.

Using my regular headphones with my phone ๐ŸŽง which only the right channel works on them because the jack is broken as it has been for two years now. ๐Ÿ“ฑ I need to consider getting a new phone at some point as the charging port has been dying on the phone for some time and it doesn’t fhwrr well always. Plus I’m always low on memory. The Straight Talk phones ๐Ÿ“ž I use are like $50 so it’s not that big of an investment.

Today will be sunny ๐ŸŒž, with a high of 62 degrees at 3pm. Four degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical day around October 11th. Maximum dew point of 48 at 4pm. Calm wind becoming north around 5 mph in the afternoon. A year ago, we had cloudy skies in the morning with a few breaks of sun the afternoon. The high last year was 48 degrees. The record high of 81 was set in 1979. 0.2 inches of snow fell back in 1926.โ„

The sun will set at 6:04 pm with dusk around 6:33 pm, which is one minute and 32 seconds earlier than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ‡ At sunset, look for mostly clear skies ๐ŸŒ„ and temperatures around 59 degrees. The dew point will be 48 degrees. There will be a calm wind. Today will have 10 hours and 48 minutes of daytime, an increase of 2 minutes and 44 seconds over yesterday.

Tonight will be partly cloudy ๐ŸŒค, with a low of 41 degrees at 6am. Three degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical night around October 12th. Light and variable wind. In 2018, we had cloudy skies in the evening, which became mostly clear by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 36 degrees. The record low of 20 occurred back in 1959.

The latest weekend forecast looks nice but a bit cool even for late October. ๐Ÿ˜Ž I should think about heading out of town. Saturday, partly sunny, with a high near 52. Sunday, mostly sunny, with a high near 53. Typical average high for the weekend is 56 degrees.

I have to look at my time bank ๐Ÿ•’ but I might take a long weekend. I am considering heading out to Stoney Pond in Nelson and maybe hunting and camping there. โ›บ I could also go up Pisceo-Powley Road or somewhere else. Still weighting my options the week is young.

As previously noted, there are 3 weeks until Veterans Day ๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ when the sun will be setting at 4:37 pm with dusk at 5:07 pm (Standard Time). On that day in 2018, we had partly cloudy, snow showers and temperatures between 41 and 26 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 50 degrees. We hit a record high of 70 back in 2002.

September 9, 2019 Morning

Good morning! Monday’s come back around again. Yes it has. But the fare box is broken on the bus so I’m getting to ride to work for free! ๐Ÿ†“ ๐Ÿš Two weeks to Autumn ๐Ÿ‚. Mostly cloudy โ˜and 52 degrees in Delmar, NY. There is a north breeze at 5 mph. ๐Ÿƒ. The dew point is 50 degrees.

I also found the Bluetooth adapter for my laptop so I can once again listen to music in bed ๐ŸŽถ or ride my exercise bike while watching videos I’ve downloaded. ๐Ÿ“น So I guess I’m winning on this Monday morning.

Today will be partly sunny ๐ŸŒž, with a high of 72 degrees at 3pm. Three degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical day around September 16th. Maximum dew point of 50 at 8am. North wind 3 to 6 mph. Should be another nice fall like day. ๐Ÿ‘A year ago, we had mostly sunny skies. The high last year was 63 degrees. The record high of 94 was set in 1959.

It was a good weekend but it sure came and went quickly. Back to work today, ๐Ÿ’ผ the Monday meeting in two hours. Hopefully the week will go fast, gong down to city tomorrow probably will at least break the week up.

The sun will set at 7:16 pm with dusk around 7:45 pm, which is one minute and 45 seconds earlier than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ‡ At sunset, look for partly clear skies ๐ŸŒ„ and temperatures around 66 degrees. The dew point will be 49 degrees. There will be a calm wind. Today will have 12 hours and 48 minutes of daytime, an decrease of 2 minutes and 49 seconds over yesterday.

Tonight will be partly cloudy ๐ŸŒค, with a low of 50 degrees at 5am. Four degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical night around September 19th. Calm wind. In 2018, we had cloudy skies in the evening, which became mostly clear by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 51 degrees. The record low of 34 occurred back in 1978.

Still having display errors and freezing of the digits on the display in my bedroom. ๐Ÿ“ŸI think I need to fix one of the solder joints which had probably come loose. Despite the clouds around this morning, high pressure is building in this morning, at least according to the display.

The weekend forecast doesn’t look real great. ๐Ÿ˜• Saturday, a chance of showers. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 77. Chance of precipitation is 50%. Maximum dew point of 66 at 2pm. Sunday, mostly sunny, with a high near 77. Maximum dew point of 59 at 4pm. Typical average high for the weekend is 73 degrees.

This weekend I’m helping my sister move ๐Ÿšชon Saturday then on Sunday I’ll probably go hiking again, maybe back on down to the Catskills I’m undecided. Lots of things that should have gotten done over this past weekend didn’t happen but I guess there is always after work.๐Ÿ˜•

As previously noted, there are 2 weeks until Autumn ๐Ÿ‚ when the sun will be setting at 6:51 pm with dusk at 7:19 pm. On that day in 2018, we had partly sunny, patches of fog and temperatures between 66 and 45 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 69 degrees. We hit a record high of 97 back in 1895.

Limited Use Highway

September 2, 2019 Morning

Good morning! Happy Labor Day ๐Ÿ‘จโ€๐Ÿญ! Kind of a rainy, wet Labor Day although things seem to be improving. I made some coffee up โ˜• and are finishing taking down my campsite. I took down the flags last night and my truck cap stayed pretty dry last night despite the intense rain we had for a while. ๐Ÿ’ฆ This campsite is well drained so the rain wasn’t really an issue.

This Labor Day morning is cloudy, damp and 57 degrees at the Perkins Clearing Easement. โ˜ There is a south breeze at 10 mph. ๐Ÿƒ. The dew point is 57 degrees. Not going to be a real nice day but it looks like the rain has let up and the skies will clear around 7 pm.

Labor Day will have showers and possibly a thunderstorm before 1pm, then a chance of showers and thunderstorms, mainly between 1pm and 5pm. ๐ŸŒฆ High of 64 degrees at 3pm. 12 degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical day around October 2nd. Maximum dew point of 61 at 2pm. ๐Ÿ–๏ธ South wind 5 to 10 mph becoming west in the afternoon. Chance of Perkins Clearingprecipitation is 90%. New rainfall amounts between a quarter and half of an inch possible. A year ago, we had mostly sunny skies. It became sticky as the day progressed. The high last year was 83 degrees. The record high of 100 was set in 1953.

The sun will set at 7:31 pm with dusk around 8:00 pm, which is one minute and 45 seconds earlier than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ‡ At sunset, look for partly cloudy skies ๐ŸŒƒ and temperatures around 60 degrees. The dew point will be 58 degrees. There will be a west-northwest breeze at 8 mph. Today will have 13 hours and 7 minutes of daytime, an increase of 2 minutes and 52 seconds over yesterday.

Tonight will be mostly cloudy ๐ŸŒฅ, with a low of 52 degrees at 4am. Four degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical night around September 14th. Maximum dew point of 58 at 6pm. West wind 5 to 7 mph. In 2018, we had mostly clear skies in the evening, which became mostly clear by the early hours of the morning. It was very sticky. It got down to 73 degrees. The record low of 39 occurred back in 1976.

So Labor Day Weekend has come and gone. Well at least the camping โ›บ part of it once I finish taking down camp. I am in no rush at any rate. I might go for a walk ๐Ÿšถ at the Speculator River Walk before heading home ๐Ÿก but then I’ll be home. Four weeks from now I’ll be West Virginia, ๐Ÿ‘as I’m doing my road trip a week earlier this year as usually the colors are done by Columbus Day Weekend in the high country and because I’m house sitting as my parents house the following week. ๐Ÿถ

The camp stove continues to work well with both burners โ™จ and I’ll replace the broken chair ๐Ÿšฎbefore the next time I camp. ๐Ÿ’บNeed to get propane, especially now that I know they don’t sell it at Tractor Supply ๐Ÿšœ in Amsterdam. That said, there were plenty of other places that sold propane, but I skipped it and I made out okay, although I’ll need it for the next trip.

I could have gotten propane at Frank’s Gun Store on the way up here but I’d probably end up buying yet another gun ๐Ÿ”ซ and honestly I need to save some money as my car insurance is due at the end of the month. ๐Ÿ’ต I thought about switching insurers but I’ll probably just drop off my insurance reduction certificate from the class to State Farm. I like the coverage and rates of Progressive but it’s a pain figuring out all the details of the switch. ๐Ÿ”Ž The difference in price for equivalent plans isn’t that great.

Probably cheaper to get propane at Tractor Supply, it’s a loss leader for them to sell more cowboy hats ๐ŸŽฉ and in my case more Carhart shit that I just got to have. But self restraint is possible in hopes of a better life tomorrow in a freer state. โœ… Gotta have the AR-15 to ventilate that garbage burning barrel, when you live out in the sticks in a red state. How else are you going to have fun putting holes in your barrel?๐Ÿ›ข๐Ÿ”ซ

Changing topics, I need to get a better shovel. It’s hard digging through the roots to bury the poop at the end of the camping trip. ๐Ÿ’ฉ A troel works but it’s hard work. While the bucket shitter means I’m only digging one hole, I like digging a deep hole because I hate finding toilet paper flowers in the woods. I guess I should separate out the toilet paper and burn it but as long as it’s buried deep enough with the bacteria from the poop it should rot away quickly. I bet the local hardware store would sell a small spade โ™ค for such purposes.

Cool next weekend with temperatures running 15 degrees below normal but otherwise sunny. ๐Ÿ˜ƒ Saturday, partly sunny, with a high near 63. Maximum dew point of 49 at 12pm. Sunday, partly sunny, with a high near 59. Typical average high for the weekend is 76 degrees. Probably won’t be so cool back in Albany but hardly swimming weather at any rate. I might hunt next weekend ๐Ÿ€ at a local state forest ๐ŸŒฒ but I doubt I’ll head out of town for a few more weeks. I like traveling but becomes a lot of work after a while and there is a lot of things I could be doing closer to home. ๐Ÿข

Plus all that beer drinking ๐Ÿป around the campfire ๐Ÿ”ฅ probably ain’t that healthy for me or my finances. I returned 107 beer cans from camp to Shoprite the other day. โ™ป It’s all from camping because I don’t drink at home. I don’t always eat the healthiest crap up at camp and maybe have a smoke from time to time. ๐Ÿด Camping is fun but maybe too much fun at times.

Looking ahead, there are 5 weeks until Columbus Day ๐Ÿ›ฅ๏ธ when the sun will be setting at 6:27 pm with dusk at 6:56 pm. On that day in 2018, we had cloudy, mist and temperatures between 72 and 52 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 63 degrees. We hit a record high of 89 back in 1963.

Saturday I hiked Panther Mountain

May 17, 2019 Morning

Good morning! Happy Pack Rat Day ๐Ÿ€! I was looking around my apartment at some of the junk I have. A lot of it is scrap metal, I should see if I could take it somewhere and get a few bucks or at least recycle it. It’s just so easy to accumulate stuff, often broken stuff and parts you might use someday. Next Friday is Memorial Day Weekend Starts ๐Ÿ•๏ธ. Hoping for nice weather next week, I probably will leave right from work from the Adirondacks. Maybe I’ll even get to leave before five — that would be nice, it happened last year, but this year might be too busy.

Drizzle, then heavy rain, then mist heading down to the Park and Ride and 54 degrees โ˜” in Delmar. There is a south breeze at 10 mph. ๐Ÿƒ. The dew point is 45 degrees. The skies will clear around 4 pm.

Today will have showers likely, mainly before 1pm. Mostly cloudy ๐ŸŒฆ, with a high of 72 degrees at 3pm. Two degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical day around May 23rd. Maximum dew point of 57 at 3pm. South wind around 10 mph becoming west in the afternoon. Chance of precipitation is 60%. New precipitation amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch possible. A year ago, we had mostly sunny skies in the morning with a few breaks of sun the afternoon. The high last year was 80 degrees. The record high of 92 was set in 2017.

The sun will set at 8:13 pm with dusk around 8:45 pm, which is one minute and 2 seconds later than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ‡ At sunset, look for mostly clear skies ๐ŸŒ„ and temperatures around 65 degrees. The dew point will be 49 degrees. There will be a west-northwest breeze at 13 mph. Today will have 14 hours and 42 minutes of daytime, an increase of 2 minutes over yesterday.

Tonight will be partly cloudy ๐ŸŒƒ, with a low of 48 degrees at 5am. Typical for tonight. Northwest wind 7 to 13 mph. In 2018, we had mostly clear skies. It got down to 51 degrees. The record low of 29 occurred back in 1981.

I don’t know about you, but I am sure tired of the rain.๐ŸŒง I was noticing this morning that the bathroom has gotten quite musty. I thing a good cleaning with lots of bleach is an order for the bathroom this weekend. Also some work on the kitchen. Before the heat kicks in on Sunday.๐Ÿ›€ I really didn’t do much cleaning last weekend, because I was quickly running out to head up to the Adirondacks, and next week I’ll be heading out of town. I also need to get the bottles and cans out, because they haven’t gotten out last week. Maybe I should return them

At least I’ve been feeling better, during the second half of the week.๐Ÿ˜ท I don’t know why I had the headaches and achyness in the first half of the week on and off and the same thing last week, but it seems like it was going around the office. Kind of a cold without a full cold.

I’m hopefully now that I’m past this, and with the better weather, I’ll be feeling better, getting out, doing more walking ๐Ÿšถand exercise and getting ready for the summer that’s coming. I did walk down to the bus stop and to the library, but I’ve not done my evening walks in a while. My big thing this summer is going to be more day hikes, and once the black flies are gone, more overnighters with the hammock (probably going to need an inexpensive, lightweight bug net).

I think I am set for the Lupine Festival, ๐Ÿฆ‹ย I just have to pick up the printed material from the print shop and just reorganize the bag to make sure I only have the supplies I need. I will run to the store, get some crayons ๐Ÿ– and food to eat tonight and while I”m there, because I’m pretty low at home, unless I get creative.๐Ÿž I got figure out my lunch tomorrow — I guess I will get a ticket for food there but I’d rather pack my own and avoid the waste and unhealthy options. Need lots of water too, because it often is hot sitting out at the event.

As previously noted, next Friday is Memorial Day Weekend Starts ๐Ÿ•๏ธ when the sun will be setting at 8:19 pm with dusk at 8:53 pm. On that day in 2018, we had sunny and temperatures between 80 and 52 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 72 degrees. We hit a record high of 92 back in 1964.

Looking Back Towards South Troy Bridge

March 25, 2019 Morning

Good morning! Monday’s come back around again. Next Monday is April Fools Day ๐Ÿคก. Partly sunny around the bus stop ๐Ÿšby Valero. As I marked on Waze there is a cop ๐Ÿ‘ฎ hiding out at the church โ›ช parking ๐Ÿ…ฟ lot across the way. There is a north breeze at 8 mph. ๐Ÿƒ. Overall a pleasant morning with the snow melting away.

I expect a long somewhat busy week this upcoming week, leading up to April Fools Day.๐Ÿƒ Fortunately I have lots of dress clothes ๐Ÿ‘”so I should be set for the week after buying those pants two weeks ago and the dress shirts this week. This week the big car insurance ๐Ÿš™ bill is due as is rent on Friday. Maybe I’ll get my federal tax refund back this week though. ๐Ÿ’ธI should have enough money to pay for it all though. I did end up spend $100 between groceries and the shirts but my pantry was getting pretty bare and I needed personal supplies like deodorant.

Hopefully this won’t lead into the weekend but at least trout season starts next Monday. ๐ŸŽฃMight rain this weekend which could lead to some very high water levels. ๐Ÿ’ฆI need to renew my fishing license this week. It expires like April 14th but I want to order online and have it shipped to me to avoid the line. ๐Ÿ’ป Same price online as walking down to the DEC or any other retailer. I will need it for my Easter weekend camping trip. ๐Ÿ‡

Today will be sunny ๐ŸŒž, with a high of 42 degrees at 3pm. Six degrees below normal, which is similiar to a typical day around March 11th. At least it will be sunny. Northwest wind 8 to 10 mph. A year ago, we had mostly sunny. The high last year was 44 degrees. The record high of 74 was set in 1910. 1.9 inches of snow fell back in 1960.โ„

Took a sleeping pill ๐Ÿ’Š before bed but all it did was make me fuzzy come the morning. Lately I’ve been having sleeping problems again. Maybe because it’s been chilly in my bedroom with the heat turned down now that the weather has moderated or maybe because I’m dreaming of nice nights in the wilderness. ๐ŸŒฒ๐ŸŒณโ›บ๐Ÿป That it I’m a fire ๐Ÿ”ฅ bug and all I’m dreaming about is burning things. ๐Ÿ˜‚ ๐Ÿ’ญ

I was on the fence about turning the heat on last evening as it was not expected to drop below freezing last night but I decided the morning might be cold as the heat ๐Ÿ”ฅ slowly leaked through the building as the night progressed. It was 63 degrees in my bedroom by the time I retired to bed, ๐Ÿ˜ด it got up to 66 degrees mid afternoon with the sun hitting the building. It was quite hot in the crawl space when I was in there putting my camping gear away and organizing it in preparation for the new year of camping. I opened up a window for a while but then quickly closed it.

The sun will set at 7:13 pm with dusk around 7:41 pm, which is one minute and 9 seconds later than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ‡ At sunset, look for clear skies ๐ŸŒ„ and temperatures around 35 degrees. There will be a northwest breeze at 8 mph. Today will have 12 hours and 25 minutes of daytime, an increase of 2 minutes and 54 seconds over yesterday. Maybe a bit too chilly for tailgate drinking tonight, although nowadays I only drink apple cider vinger water, not beer, because I’m cheap and I don’t like getting drunk, as I’m getting old.

Tonight will be clear ๐ŸŒƒ, with a low of 19 degrees at 6am. 10 degrees below normal, which is similiar to a typical night around February 24th. Northwest wind 5 to 7 mph. Going to need a little heat tonight. In 2018, we had mostly clear in the evening, which became mostly sunny by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 23 degrees. The record low of 2 occurred back in 1960. The negativity is done until November at this point I believe but I’d have to check the weather records.

Tomorrow will be sunny ๐ŸŒž, with a high of 40 degrees at 4pm. Nine degrees below normal, which is similiar to a typical day around March 6th. North wind 6 to 9 mph. A year ago, we had mostly sunny. The high last year was 50 degrees. The record high of 74 was set in 1986. 6.1 inches of snow fell back in 1899.โ„

It was a nice enough of an evening last night that I sat out back for a while, looking at the stars โœจ with my feet propped up on the snow bank. Slowly but surely melting away. They still have a fair amount of snow left in the hill-towns when I went out to the folks house for Sunday dinner. I could have gone skiing ๐ŸŽฟ today if I had the time out there but my priority was cleaning the truck for camping and my early morning walk to Five Rivers.

Now that my truck is cleaned and unpacked and my camping gear is organized I’m ready for my first adventure of the year. โ›บ Well first I want to haul the bottles, cans and accumulated recyclable โ™ป plastics to the transfer station. I’m also thinking about a run to the scrap yard to recycle broken Christmas lights, old power cables and wire that are cracked, some broken chairs and other metal things that I might even get a buck or two to scrap. ๐Ÿ’ต Or that could wait – I just noticed how many broken and junk cables and aluminum tubing from broken chairs I had in my crawl space.๐Ÿ”Œ Every buck counts and plus it’s recycling, and no I won’t burn wire even when I do eventually own land and can have fires whenever I want ๐Ÿ”ฅ. Toxic stinky. I don’t expect to make much.

I’m continuing to work on various improvements to the blog. ๐Ÿ‘€I fix one bug ๐Ÿ›, I find another. The same is true with my VMS sign. Debugging is a constant struggle. I try to write good code ๐Ÿ“ but I have only a few classes in formal computer programming. ๐Ÿ’ป The rest I’ve learned hands on so my technique is not the best but I have learned a wide variety of languages over the years.

I’ve also been doing a lot of thinking and writing ๐Ÿ’ญ about many topics lately. I kind of like the freedom of having my personal blog and not having to address the nasty comments on Facebook. I might use Facebook a little going forward ๐Ÿ‘ค but I’m staying away from reading it more than five minutes, once a day now. My focus is the blog. I have some great photo blog posts and interesting fact type posts scheduled for next week.

I am very happy with the Oxford shirts I got at JC Penny.๐Ÿ˜€ They are comfortable and fit well. ๐Ÿ‘• I hope going forward I can find them online, hopefully at a slightly better price then $44 for two shirts — or $22. When Sears was open they had them for usually $16-18 a shirt, depending on the sales. That said, the Sears shirts didn’t hold up well during the end, as I think the material kept getting thinner and thinner as they cut costs, leading to sleeves wearing out prematurely.

I looked last week at my investment accounts last week when finishing my taxes and was very happy. ๐Ÿ˜Š But now I guess we are heading into a recession. Nice to dream while I still can.ย  I expect now that the yeild curve โคต is negative that the economy is slowing and markets will drop. As I’m continuing to invest both for the midterm and long term aka retirement, I think it’s good for me as I’ll get more shares for my money. It’s kind of like a sale at the grocery store. Unrealized losses are just that – they only exist as an imaginary number. Eventually I’ll have the money to buy land out in the country, ๐Ÿก๐Ÿฎ it’s just a matter of continuing to save and invest.

Cloudy but fairly mild this weekend. ๐Ÿ˜ž Saturday, a chance of showers. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 63. Chance of precipitation is 30%. Maximum dew point of 45 at 1pm. Sunday, a chance of showers. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 52. Chance of precipitation is 50%. Typical average high for the weekend is 51 degrees.

Still thinking about an extended Easter weekend of April to camp. โ›บ I think that would work best for me on many levels, assuming most of the snow is gone from the East Branch by then. Or maybe Central New York if I go that route. I look forward to more nights in the wilderness.๐ŸŒณ๐ŸŒฒ

In four weeks on Earth Day, April 22 ๐ŸŒŽ the sun will be setting at 7:45 pm,๐ŸŒ„ which is 31 minutes and 55 seconds later then today. In 2018 on that day, we had sunny and temperatures between 65 and 29 degrees. Typically, you have temperatures between 61 and 40 degrees. The record high of 86 degrees was set back in 1985. That’s a session day, so no camping out in the wilderness with my big jacked up truck, burning things I shouldn’t to celebrate Earth Day. Haha. Happy Monday, I’m quite the joker today.

Looking ahead, April Fools Day ๐Ÿคก is in 1 weeks, Tax Day ๐Ÿ’ฐ is in 3 weeks, Earth Day ๐ŸŒŽ is in 4 weeks, Memorial Day ๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ is in 9 weeks, Latest Sunset ๐ŸŒ† is in 13 weeks, July ๐ŸŠ๐Ÿฟ is in 14 weeks, Cow Appreciation Day ๐Ÿ‚ is in 16 weeks, Last Sunset After 8 PM ๐ŸŒ† is in 20 weeks, Labor Day ๐Ÿ‘จโ€๐Ÿญ is in 23 weeks, More Night then Day ๐ŸŒŒ is in 6 months and Columbus Day ๐Ÿ›ฅ๏ธ is in 28 weeks.

Under a cloud

February 23, 2019 Evening

Good evening! Mostly cloudy and 33 degrees in Delmar. โ˜ There is a south-southeast breeze at 7 mph. ๐Ÿƒ. There are 2 inches of snow on the ground. โ˜ƒ ๏ธThe skies will clear Monday around 5 pm. Enjoy the relatively mild weather now before the rain and ice begins tonight, followed by some strong wind gusts and cold but sunny weather for the work week.

This morning was the Pine Bush hike ๐ŸŒฒbut I was the only one who showed up so I enjoyed the hike by myself. Gave me more time to enjoy nature. Later on I came home, had some lunch and then had a bit of a sick stomach. ๐Ÿ˜ฉ Felt sick after lunch, I wonder though if it was something I ate because as quick as I was sick I started feeling better. Later on I went down to the library for a bit to upload some new maps.

This evening I had fish sticks and mixed vegatables for dinner, ๐ŸŸthen rode the excerise bike for a while, ๐Ÿšดmaybe 45 minutes watching some YouTube videos I downloaded, ๐ŸŽฅthen laid back in bed for a while before deciding to go for my evening walk. Figured I should get out and get as much excerise as possible before tomorrow’s rain and the busy work week ahead.๐Ÿ’ฆ

Tonight will rain, snow, freezing rain, and sleet likely before 3am, then rain or freezing rain between 3am and 4am, then rain after 4am. ๐ŸŒจ Low of 30 degrees at 11pm. 11 degrees above normal, which is similiar to a typical night around March 27th. Southeast wind 6 to 10 mph. Chance of precipitation is 80%. Little or no ice accumulation expected. Total nighttime snow and sleet accumulation of less than a half inch possible.โ„ In 2018, we had cloudy skies in the evening, which became partly cloudy by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 34 degrees. The record low of -11 occurred back in 1894.

Tonight will have a Waning Gibbous Moon ๐ŸŒ– with 63% illuminated with the moon rising at 10:39 pm. The moon will set at 9:45 am. The Last Quarter Moon is on Monday night with mostly cloudy skies. The Worm Moon ๐ŸŒ is on Tuesday, March 19th. Last full moon of calendar winter. The sun will rise at 6:39 am with the first light at 6:10 am, which is one minute and 33 seconds earlier than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ„ So early this time of year. Tonight will have 12 hours and 59 minutes of darkness, a decrease of 2 minutes and 48 seconds over last night.

Tomorrow will rain, mainly before 2pm. ๐ŸŒง We could use some rain and best of all, it’s not snow. High of 47 degrees at 4pm. 10 degrees above normal, which is similiar to a typical day around March 22nd. I’ll take it, especially if the rain stops relatively early. Southeast wind 10 to 15 mph. Chance of precipitation is 90%. New precipitation amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch possible. A year ago, we had cloudy in the morning, which became light rain by afternoon. The high last year was 46 degrees. The record high of 74 was set in 2017. 8.0 inches of snow fell back in 1962.โ„

Tomorrow I have to do some grocery shopping, ๐Ÿ‘and maybe wash off my truck before heading out my parents house for Sunday dinner. Then I’ll probably come home an skip my evening walk in favor of the exercise bike especially if it’s going to be as windy as predicted. The wind will probably be pretty cold and I might lose power so I should probably figure on turning up the heat before I go out tomorrow. ๐ŸŒพ Maybe it’s good after all that the landlord cut down all the trees in the yard, none to likely fall on Big Red.

Should be a busy week next week with work, ๐Ÿbut I’m fine with being really busy. It’s good to get a lot of things done, it will make me feel very accomplished. And the week will go by quickly – especially with Friday being March 1st. I’m really looking forward to the snow melting and spending more nights in the wilderness.

In four weeks on March 23 the sun will be setting at 7:11 pm (Daylight Savings Time),๐ŸŒ„ which is one hour, 33 minutes and 28 seconds later then tonight. In 2018 on that day, we had partly cloudy, rain showers and temperatures between 43 and 30 degrees. Typically, you have temperatures between 47 and 28 degrees. The record high of 80 degrees was set back in 1938.

March is fine but unless I have a slow week at work and I can get out of town for the weekend,โ›บ I’m not that sure there will be any big adventures on tap. I think most likely the first time I’ll get truck cap camping out of town will be in April. I am however interested in hiking Platte Clove Road, should the snow melt before it opens to cars for the season,๐Ÿ—ป but that’s more of a day trip than anything else.

I looked and discovered a replacement for the battery for my phone would only be $5, ๐Ÿ“ฑso I think I’m going to order one. ๐Ÿ”‹The headphone jack has been long broken on the phone, it’s always running low on memory and the power jack is on its way out but I want to wait a while before I plunk down the $50 to replace my phone. These tracphones aren’t expensive to replace but I hate to spend money and throw away something that I can get more from use out of despite its flaws. Works good enough for me.

Despite my high heating bill last month, ๐Ÿ’ธ overall my budget was pretty much spot on as I didn’t do any big road trips or buy anything expensive. I am hoping to live within my means again this month, because I’m sure come April I will be traveling a lot again, and those camping trips and nights in the wilderness ain’t cheap even if they are special to me. ๐ŸŒŒ Big Red is thirsty, and all that beer and food adds up. Although who knows, I’ve really cut back on drinking in the past year.

Looking ahead, Arbor Day ๐ŸŒณ is in 9 weeks, 8 PM Sunset ๐ŸŒ‡ is in 10 weeks, June ๐Ÿน is in 14 weeks, Average High is 80 ๐Ÿ– is in 17 weeks, Hottest Time of the Year ๐Ÿ˜… is in 20 weeks and Average High Falls To 79 ๏ธDegrees โ›ฑ๏ธ๏ธ๏ธ is in 26 weeks.

Good night, sleep well.
