A day to remind us of October days gone by โ˜€

Making a run at sixty degrees this afternoon but don’t worry the sun will be setting in the four o’clock hour so no bike ride home.

Good morning! Happy Thursday. Sunny and 31 degrees in Delmar, NY. ๐ŸŒž Calm wind. Things will start to thaw out at around 7 am. ๐ŸŒก๏ธ

Kind of a cold start to the morning, โ„๏ธ for my morning walk. I was up at 5 AM to start the pea soup ๐Ÿฅ˜ but went back to bed until around 6 AM when I went out for my walk. Oatmeal pancakes, this time experimenting with an egg in the batter, some cider vinegar and baking soda to see if I can make them more fluffy. ๐Ÿฅž Honestly, they were somewhat better. I should play with whole-wheat flour and a more conventional pancake recipe, though I don’t like the idea of adding sugar or oil to the mix. Plenty of sugar from the blueberries ๐Ÿซ I used in the mix.

Today will be sunny ๐ŸŒž, with a high of 57 degrees at 2pm. Eight degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical day around October 28th. Light and variable wind becoming southeast around 5 mph. A year ago, we had light drizzle in the morning with more sun in the afternoon. The high last year was 42 degrees. The record high of 71 was set in 2006. 3.4 inches of snow fell back in 2002.โ„

Riding to work today, ๐Ÿšฒ should be a nice one for that. If not so dark in the evening, it would be excellent for a bike ride home too. Going to be certainly mild enough, I’ll take October weather in mid-November. I’m hoping for a pretty mild winter, โ›„ being an El Nino year. So far no snow or even salt on the roads, as we’ve not had any icing or snow this year as it’s been mild and relatively dry. Probably the best chance for them calling out the salters in the mountains is that Wednesday before Thanksgiving, but even I’m skeptical about that. They’ve had them out a lot more in the highlands of West Virginia this year.

Solar noon ๐ŸŒž is at 11:41 am with sun having an altitude of 28.7° from the due south horizon (-42.1° vs. 6/21). A six foot person will cast a 11 foot shadow today compared to 2.2 feet on the first day of summer. The golden hour ๐Ÿ… starts at 3:51 pm with the sun in the west-southwest (238°). ๐Ÿ“ธ The sunset is in the west-southwest (245°) with the sun dropping below the horizon at 4:34 pm after setting for 3 minutes and 13 seconds with dusk around 5:02 pm, which is 53 seconds earlier than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ‡ At dusk you’ll see the Waxing Crescent ๐ŸŒ’ Moon in the south-southwest (211°) at an altitude of 12° from the horizon, 231,427 miles away. ๐Ÿš€ The best time to look at the stars is after 5:38 pm. At sunset, look for mostly clear skies ๐ŸŒ„ and temperatures around 53 degrees. There will be a calm wind. Tomorrow will have 9 hours and 45 minutes of daytime, a decrease of 2 minutes and 6 seconds over today.

Dinner last night was 15-bean soup ๐Ÿฅ˜ but as I didn’t have enough soup, I cut up some spinach, celery, carrots, onions and added some smoked paprika to make it a meal, dipped in with lots homemade bread, this way the loaf without the shredded carrots. ๐Ÿฅ• As much as I like my bread with the carrots ๐Ÿž I find it really tough on my stomach and guts, so I might end up cutting that out for just whole-wheat bread with some oatmeal put in the mix. Or just only whole-wheat flour, if I want things to be fluffier. Dessert was Greek yogurt with too much canned 100% pumpkin and some pumpkin pie spice. Tasted good but I probably eat too much. I keep telling myself I need to get pie pumpkins ๐ŸŽƒ and make my own pumpkin up at home. It would save the can โ™ป๏ธ that I otherwise have to save for recycling. Rather compost then recycle, then tin cans usually still have a good market.

Last night I returned my library books ๐Ÿ“š to the library. I had a stack of books I haven’t read but I keep putting off returning them. I am spending my free time with the Udemy classes on Remote Sensing, so it’s not that I’m not learning, but it’s not with books. Most of the library books I get out are pretty out of date, and I am lazy and I just like watching video lectures, especially now that I get Udemy through my library for free. ๐Ÿ“ฑ There are so many great online resources I’m learning I can access with my library card, physical books aren’t the only way to keep up with the world. ๐ŸŒŽ Plus I like being able to snuggle under my heated blanket with the phone, rather then a book. That said, I’m usually dog tired by 8 or 8:30 PM as I get up at 5 AM each day, to start cooking. ๐Ÿ‘ฉ‍๐Ÿณ

Tonight will be mostly clear ๐ŸŒƒ, with a low of 34 degrees at 1am. Three degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical night around November 9th. South wind 3 to 7 mph. In 2022, we had mostly clear skies in the evening, which became mostly clear by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 32 degrees. The record low of 7 occurred back in 1972.

Looking forward to that pea soup when I get home ๐Ÿต re-heated up with lots of good homemade bread and some balsamic vinegar. Just writing that makes me hungry. Not a real cool evening but it’s not exactly warm and with the sun set so early, it should be plenty cool by later in the evening.

Right now, a split verdict on the weekend. ๐Ÿ˜• Saturday, a chance of showers before 1pm. Partly sunny, with a high near 47. Northwest wind 10 to 14 mph. Chance of precipitation is 30%. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch possible. Sunday, partly sunny, with a high near 45. Typical average high for the weekend is 48 degrees.

Turkey fans and turkey farmers will note that next Thursday is Thanksgiving ๐Ÿฆƒ when the sun will be setting at 4:28 pm with dusk at 4:57 pm. So early! On that day in 2022, we had partly cloudy and temperatures between 49 and 24 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 46 degrees. We hit a record high of 72 back in 1931.

Sleep and fresh bread was more important watching the election results ๐Ÿ—ณ

Got to bed a little after nine after my bread was rising in the oven. Up a bit before five to get baking, beans cooking on the stove, butternut squash cleaned and baking.

Good morning! Mostly clear at the freezing point ๐ŸŒ… in Delmar, NY for the morning walk. There is a northwest breeze at 13 mph. ๐Ÿƒ with gusts up to 24 mph ๐Ÿ’จ๐Ÿ’จ๐Ÿ’จ.  I’m out walking this morning and it’s a cold one. I’m out and going though with my morning walk, but it’s cold. ๐Ÿšถ‍โ™€๏ธ Going to ride to work today, ๐Ÿšฒ but by five o’clock it will be dark and I’ll be busing it back home.

Lost one of my gloves ๐Ÿงค when I was out riding on Monday, so it might make for a bit of cool ride into work, but I figure I best do it today as tomorrow isn’t going to be nice enough to ride to work. I am stumbling around this morning though, running late, it’s going to be closer to 10 AM when I get into the office. ๐Ÿ‘จ‍๐Ÿ’ผ Probably almost would have been just better to take the local bus in this morning, but so be it. Part of it was I was studying local election results and news ๐Ÿ“ฐ, trying to see what happened last night. Not that it makes much of a difference in my life, but I always find it interesting to see what’s happening politically.

Today will be mostly sunny ๐ŸŒž, with a high of 43 degrees at 2pm. Nine degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical day around November 30th. Northwest wind 7 to 13 mph, with gusts as high as 24 mph. A year ago, we had mostly sunny skies in the morning with sunny skies in the afternoon. The high last year was 53 degrees. The record high of 75 was set in 1975. 1.7 inches of snow fell back in 1894.โ„ A few years before my time.

The bread I ended up making came out very salty, ๐Ÿง‚๐Ÿž as I decided to put extra salt on the top. I might try to scrape it off, but if that doesn’t work out, I’ll let the bread dry out and use it in a soup as breadcrumbs with less salt in it. I am out of flour now, I will need to get more before I start doing anymore bread. Last week’s bread came out so good, I am disappointed I messed this one up but I was kind of sleepy as I made the bread up, having just come back from those three nights camping out Madison County.

Solar noon ๐ŸŒž is at 11:40 am with sun having an altitude of 30.9° from the due south horizon (-40° vs. 6/21). A six foot person will cast a 10 foot shadow today compared to 2.2 feet on the first day of summer. The golden hour ๐Ÿ… starts at 4:00 pm with the sun in the west-southwest (241°). ๐Ÿ“ธ The sunset is in the west-southwest (248°) with the sun dropping below the horizon at 4:42 pm after setting for 3 minutes and 8 seconds with dusk around 5:10 pm, which is one minute and 8 seconds earlier than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ‡ The best time to look at the stars is after 5:45 pm. At sunset, look for partly cloudy skies ๐ŸŒƒ and temperatures around 41 degrees. There will be a northwest breeze at 7 mph. Today will have 10 hours and 5 minutes of daytime, a decrease of 2 minutes and 23 seconds over yesterday.

This morning is cold โ„๏ธ but this evening looks even worse. But hopefully late enough that it won’t impact my plans to get out walking ๐Ÿšถ‍โ™€๏ธ this evening after dinner, then read for a while ๐Ÿ“• and get to bed early ๐Ÿ›Œ as I’m quite tired. It’s been a fun few weeks but it’s been so busy with vacation then taking the other weekend out to Madison County. ๐Ÿค  Plus much like yesterday, โ˜• sipping coffee just seemed like a more important activity then getting to work on time, lol. ๐Ÿคฃ It’s going to probably be a fairly quiet day in the office, as I didn’t see a lot of backgrounds or cap grants go through when I was on vacation on Monday.

Tonight will rain, snow, and sleet likely before 3am, then rain likely, possibly mixed with sleet. ๐ŸŒจ Cloudy, with a low of 32 degrees at 11pm. Two degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical night around November 13th. Calm wind becoming southeast around 6 mph after midnight. Chance of precipitation is 70%. New snow and sleet accumulation of less than a half inch possible. In 2022, we had clear skies in the evening, which became mostly clear by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 27 degrees. The record low of 11 occurred back in 1971.

Yesterday, drove back to Albany from Madison County. ๐Ÿš˜ Stopped at Altamont Orchards and got apples ๐Ÿ and grapes ๐Ÿ‡. The grapes weren’t as good as the concord grapes I got last week at Annuto’s but far better then what I would get at a grocery store. Went out and visited the family on Sunday evening. ๐Ÿ‘ช Then got clothes unpacked and started kneading the bread ๐Ÿž and then headed off to bed, a bit after 9 PM as I didn’t get home too early and had a fair bit to unpack.

Cool but sunny weekend ahead, bar Veterans Day. ๐ŸŽ– Friday, Veterans Day Observed, mostly cloudy, with a high near 50. West wind 7 to 11 mph. Saturday, Veterans Day, sunny, with a high near 46. Sunday, mostly sunny, with a high near 43. Typical average high for the weekend is 51 degrees. Not a half bad weekend, kind of wish I had held off until this weekend but so be it. Sunday was nice last weekend in Madison County. I am considering going out to Vermont next weekend, but I’ll see how the weather looks as we get closer. Might be kind of cold.

Looking ahead, there are 4 weeks until Saint Nicholas Day ๐ŸŽ… when the sun will be setting at 4:23 pm with dusk at 4:53 pm. On that day in 2022, we had rain showers, partly cloudy, mild and temperatures between 54 and 39 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 41 degrees. We hit a record high of 68 back in 2001.

William Moore Monument

Shifting that clock back didn’t really make the mornings much brighter ๐Ÿ”†

Maybe I just get up too early, the hour when the good folks of Madison County are milking the cows but shifting that extra hour of daylight in the morning doesn’t help that much. There is only a limited amount of daylight in November.

Good morning! Monday’s come back around again. Partly clear and 33 degrees at the Stoney Pond State Forest. Sunrise is quite pretty now that it’s finally happening. ๐ŸŒ… Calm wind.

Up early decided I wanted eggs ๐Ÿฅš again this morning. No cinnamon on my eggs this morning, lol. ๐Ÿณ ๐Ÿ˜‚ Did fry up two onions ๐Ÿง… which made for an excellent start though sort of melted my olive oil bottle warming it by the heater. Mushrooms ๐Ÿ„, garlic and spinach, lots of turmeric and smoked paprika. Then I decided I was still hungry so I fried up some French style green beans with another egg and nutritional yeast. ๐Ÿฅ— Should be good on the energy โšก side of things today.

Today will become mostly cloudy ๐ŸŒค๏ธ๐Ÿ‘‰๐ŸŒฅ, with a high of 48 degrees at 2pm. Five degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical day around November 18th. Light south wind increasing to 11 to 16 mph in the morning. A year ago, we had mostly sunny skies in the morning, remaining cloudy in the afternoon. It was humid. The high last year was 72 degrees. The record high of 73 was set in 2015. 3.2 inches of snow fell back in 1933.โ„

Today I plan to head to Cazenovia around nine 9โƒฃ and park and ride my bike from there. ๐Ÿšฒ Some around the village, Lorenzo State Historic Site and Cazenovia Lake Park.๐Ÿฐ I know nothing about the historic site, worth checking out. Then some of the Chittenango – Cazenovia trailway down to Chittenango Falls State Park ๐Ÿž and hike down to the falls and maybe some of the park trails in the back.

Solar noon ๐ŸŒž is at 11:47 am with sun having an altitude of 31.2ยฐ from the due south horizon (-39.3ยฐ vs. 6/21). A six foot person will cast a 9.9 foot shadow today compared to 2.2 feet on the first day of summer. The golden hour ๐Ÿ… starts at 4:10 pm with the sun in the west-southwest (242ยฐ). ๐Ÿ“ธ The sunset is in the west-southwest (249ยฐ) with the sun dropping below the horizon at 4:51 pm after setting for 3 minutes and 7 seconds with dusk around 5:19 pm, which is one minute and 12 seconds earlier than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ‡ The best time to look at the stars is after 5:54 pm. At sunset, look for mostly cloudy skies โ˜ and temperatures around 47 degrees. Breezy, 16 mph breeze โ›… from the south. Tomorrow will have 10 hours and 6 minutes of daytime, a decrease of 2 minutes and 26 seconds over today.

Yesterday was a great day. โ˜€๏ธ A whole lot more sun then I expected. I thought maybe sunshine breaking through clouds late but not the deep blue skies most of the day. โ˜บ Started out around 11 am parked across from the Chittenango Village Hall, rode along the Chittenango River Trail, the partially completed Chittenango Feeder Trail to current terminus, Chittenango Canal Musuem, then along the Old Erie Canal to Green Lakes State Park, part of the way around Green Lake, then to Canastota and Wampsville. ๐Ÿšฒ Then back around to Canastota and poked around the village then back to Chittenango on Main Street. 36 miles or so ridden, see my track I posted earlier. ๐Ÿ—บ

Drove back through the Fenner Wind Farm โš› and made it back to camp โ›บ nearly a half hour before dark. ๐ŸŒƒ ๐Ÿ”ฅ Had a quick dinner of bean soup ๐Ÿฅฃ and bread ๐Ÿž that I reheated then fried some apples, banana and strawberry ๐Ÿ“ ๐Ÿ ๐ŸŒ in some olive oil with stevia. Pretty good. A bit cool with the wind for a while ๐Ÿƒ but it died down as the night progressed.

Tonight will have showers, mainly before 2am. ๐ŸŒง Low of 43 degrees at 7pm. Nine degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical night around October 11th. Windy, with a southwest wind 18 to 28 mph, with gusts as high as 43 mph. Chance of precipitation is 90%. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch possible. In 2022, we had mostly clear skies in the evening, which became mostly clear by the early hours of the morning. It was somewhat humid. It got down to 46 degrees. The record low of 18 occurred back in 1962.

Replenished the firewood stock ๐Ÿช“๐Ÿชต up at camp โ›บ so I’m ready for tonight. I’m not going to string up a tarp but I’ll have dinner fairly early and a fire ๐Ÿ”ฅ and retire to the bed of my truck once the rain ๐ŸŒง๏ธ picks up which looks to be around seven 7โƒฃ o’clock if the forecast is accurate. I have books ๐Ÿ“š to read inside my truck cap and I have cell service here ๐Ÿ“ฑ so I can stream video, listen to podcasts or lectures from my truck. Hoping tomorrow will be dry enough to do some riding or hiking, not sure but maybe one of those preserves on Otsego Lake north of Cooperstown. ๐Ÿšถ I could also ride around Hamilton and poke around the village a boy if it’s not raining.

Veterans Day Weekend ๐Ÿช– goes back and forth on how nice it will be. Depends on the timing for that front on Thursday still could change. Still much cooler than this past weekend. Veterans Day Observed, Friday, mostly cloudy and 40. Saturday, partly cloudy, with a high near 37. Sunday, mostly sunny and 38. Typical average high for the weekend is 51 degrees. Not sure if I’m heading out of town next weekend but if I do probably Rennselearville State Forest though I’ve considered Vermont too.

Looking ahead as but not forward, next Monday is the first Average Night Below Freezing ๐ŸŒŒ when the sun will be setting at 4:43 pm with dusk at 5:12 pm. Earlier for sure back in the Albany. On that day in 2022, we had partly cloudy and temperatures between 49 and 36 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 50 degrees. This morning in Madison County was a bit below freezing but the elevation is higher here. We hit a record high of 69 back in 1964.

I’ve decided this winter โ„ I really want to and should commit to bringing my programming and data science skills to the next level ๐Ÿ–ฅ with those free courses on Udemy offered by my library ๐Ÿ“š and other free sources of programming knowledge like Free Code Camp. I was really into Free Code Camp until the class got really hard and was on topics I thought I’d never actually use for my blog and similar purposes. ๐Ÿค“ But now in the next few months when I transition over to Data Services professionally, I want to have not only the skills needed to succeed at work but also personally. Computer programming and data science skills are a transferrable to a wide variety of careers. ๐Ÿง‘โ€๐Ÿซ

To ride the Erie Canalway in Madison County today ๐Ÿšฒ

For many the extra hours is a chance to sleep in but I look at it as another hour to ride and explore the Erie Canalway today.

Good morning! Happy Sunday. Cloudy and 44 degrees at the Stoney Pond State Forest. โ˜” Calm wind. Nice morning now that the rain showers have pulled away.

Started my morning with frying ๐Ÿณ onions, spinach, garlic and peppers. And making eggs, dumping cinnamon rather than chipotle on them but actually I kind of liked the warm note the cinnamon gave to the eggs ๐Ÿฅš. Experimenting isn’t a bad thing even if it’s driven by your half awake body. Coffee โ˜• is good, with the intended cinnamon and ginger in it, lol ๐Ÿ˜‚.

Bit cooler this morning then last night with the breeze picking up ๐ŸŒฌ๏ธ after that little clipper front came through delivering rain showers early on keeping me mostly in the truck bed ๐Ÿ› until closer to six though around five I got up and visited the bucket shitter ๐Ÿšฝ. Eating breakfast this morning I watched a gray squirrel ๐Ÿฟ๏ธ run up the tree across the way and wonder why I wasn’t sitting next to my 22. Probably shouldn’t be shooting in a campground at any rate, especially as there are people camping down the way by the lake, but we used to shoot up here back in the day with the boys when I was working down in Nelson. Those were the days. ๐Ÿ”ซ I was surprised that others are camping but they’re a ยฝ mile away and out of ear shot. ๐Ÿ‘‚ Except maybe from a gun.

Today will have a chance of showers, mainly before 8am. Cloudy, then gradually becoming mostly sunny ๐ŸŒฅ ๐Ÿ‘‰ ๐ŸŒž, with a high of 46 degrees at 1pm. Eight degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical day around November 23rd. Light west wind becoming northwest 5 to 9 mph in the morning. Chantce of precipitation is 30%. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch possible. A year ago, we had partly cloudy skies. The high last year was 76 degrees. The record high of 75 was set in 1994. 3.0 inches of snow fell back in 1894.โ„

Heading down to Chittenango to explore the Chittenango Landing Musuem, ๐Ÿšฃ and ride the Erie Canalway west to Green Lakes area and then go west to Canastota. I was originally going to park in Canastota as I thought it was closer but I think I’d rather explore the other part of the trail as it seems more interesting. ๐Ÿšฒ The Oneida – Canastota section pretty much just runs along the road that I’ve driven a million times when I was working up this way.

I could stop at the Aldi’s in Canastota this afternoon but I think I’m fairly set on overpriced groceries after visiting the Richmond Springs Price Chopper. ๐Ÿ’ต It actually wasn’t that bad but I skipped getting peppers and broccoli ๐Ÿฅฆ there as they were absurdly expensive. I skipped getting gas in Sharon Springs for $3.54 a gallon and was raked over the coals for gas at $3.79 in Richfield Springs โ›ฝ but I wasn’t messing around this time as I almost ran out of gas driving down to Binghamton two weeks ago. โ›ฝ Figured better just get r dun. It’s stupid to stress over $4 when your putting $80 in your truck. I got black sweet grapes ๐Ÿ‡ at Price Chopper hoping to capture some of that sweet flavor of the concord grapes I got last week at Annuto’s. Lol. ๐Ÿ˜‚ Nope, maybe 20%, of the sweetness. Tomorrow I’ll probably check out the fancy Caz Aldi’s though.

Solar noon ๐ŸŒž is at 11:47 am with sun having an altitude of 31.5ยฐ from the due south horizon (-39ยฐ vs. 6/21). A six foot person will cast a 9.8 foot shadow today compared to 2.2 feet on the first day of summer. The golden hour ๐Ÿ… starts at 4:11 pm with the sun in the west-southwest (242ยฐ). ๐Ÿ“ธ The sunset is in the west-southwest (249ยฐ) with the sun dropping below the horizon at 4:52 pm after setting for 3 minutes and 7 seconds with dusk around 5:20 pm, which is one minute and 13 seconds earlier than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ‡ The best time to look at the stars is after 5:55 pm. Time change gets you! At sunset, look for partly clear skies ๐ŸŒ„ and temperatures around 42 degrees. There will be a northwest breeze at 9 mph. Tomorrow will have 10 hours and 9 minutes of daytime, a decrease of 2 minutes and 28 seconds over today.

Night is going to come quickly that’s why I am getting an early start ๐ŸŒ… and have gathered firewood up for later. ๐Ÿชต๐Ÿช“ This way it will have time to dry โ˜€ and I fully expect tonight I’ll be rolling back to camp about sunset ๐ŸŒ‡ after riding the bulk of the day. Should be more sun later plus I get an extra hour with the time change. Need to shave, change and load my bike up but for now it’s nice by the heater. โ™จ

Tonight will be mostly cloudy ๐ŸŒƒ, with a low of 33 degrees at 6am. Two degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical night around November 10th. Northwest wind around 6 mph becoming calm. In 2022, we had mostly clear skies in the evening, which became mostly clear by the early hours of the morning. It became somewhat humid as the night progressed. It got down to 67 degrees. Very mild night for November last year. I think I was in West Virginia then. The record low of 15 occurred back in 1951.

Yesterday was a fun day, ๐Ÿšต especially riding back down Tassel Hill once I found the trail. Some of those drops on the single track trail with the hairpin switchbacks were a blast on the mountain bike. Nothing technical or jumps just a lot of fun. That said parts of the lower trail weren’t well marked leading me to have to stop ๐Ÿ›‘ and sear he for the trail a few times. ๐Ÿ”Ž ๐Ÿ—บ

Then I rode along the old Chenango Canal Towpath trail ๐Ÿšฒ to the northern end or at least as far as I could go before downed trees blocked the northern end a bit past the substation. The northern end isn’t that impressive, ๐Ÿธ it’s a ditch and a towpath along the County Highway known as Canal Road. Kind of rough and slow going on the grass, took the county highway back. I then rode down to Woodman Pond ๐Ÿฆ† where there was a ton of geese. Nice section of the trail there though they resurfaced the old towpath there with fairly course gravel which made for more difficult riding.

Got to Stoney Pond by around 4:15 pm and I was disappointed to arrive to the campsite I like โ›บ and find a construction bag full of garbage and more garbage dumped in the woods. ๐ŸŒฒ๐ŸŒณ๐Ÿ—‘๏ธ Got the mess picked upand seperated out the deposit cans, โ™ป and gathered firewood ๐Ÿชต๐Ÿช“ for the night. ๐Ÿ”ฅ It was a beautiful night but dark, came so quickly by though. Very mild in the low fifties with a calm wind. This morning is cooler. Really wasn’t much garbage left by the time that rip roaring fire was done, the scraps of aluminum and cans I’ll take home crushed and recycle โ™ป.

One month ๐Ÿ“… from now will be Repeal of Prohibition Day ๐Ÿบ when the sun will be setting at 4:30 pm with dusk at 5:00 pm. I don’t drink the way I used to due to health reasons but an occasional drink isn’t a bad thing, especially a real high quality brew.

Happy Halloween! ๐Ÿฆ‡ ๐ŸŽƒ ๐Ÿฌ

I don’t partake in candy anymore but I do like using canned pumpkin in several recipes and I should cook up sugar pumpkins for recipes in the coming weeks.

Good morning! Clear and 37 degrees in Delmar, NY. ๐ŸŒ… Calm wind. Temperatures will drop below freezing at Thursday around midnight. โ˜ƒ๏ธ But after all of yesterday’s and Sunday’s rain, it’s

Rode to work today ๐Ÿšฒ and let me tell you, it was cold โ„ especially on the fingers. ๐Ÿ–๏ธ I need to get some good riding gloves ๐Ÿงค. Not just for the cold but to keep from putting too much pressure on the nerves in my hand and causing numbness in my finger tips. That said, lately it’s not been so bad, but I’ve also been more careful how I ride my bike. The walk up the 18 floors of stairs to the office ๐Ÿข is helping to warm me up. Only a few more days when there will be daylight to ride home after work, though when the mornings aren’t too cold, I’ll ride in and then put my bike on the bus for the trip home. ๐Ÿšต‍โ™€๏ธ Still cuts my bus fare in half and provides valuable exercise.

This morning with the fresh groceries I got from the store, ๐Ÿณ this morning started out with some onions fried up, broccoli, mushrooms, scrambled eggs with smoked paprika, topped with cottage cheese and nutritional yeast. It was a remarkably good breakfast, though not dissimilar to what I last had in West Virginia. Also made up some brown rice with red lentils for a nice creamy mix spiced by chipotle sauce mix. Good for a change from other types of brown rice.

Today will be sunny ๐ŸŒž, with a high of 48 degrees at 3pm. Eight degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical day around November 18th. Light north wind. A year ago, we had partly cloudy skies in the morning, which became light rain by afternoon. The high last year was 64 degrees. The record high of 75 was set in 2019. 0.1 inches of snow fell back in 1913.โ„

I accidentally lost my headphones ๐ŸŽง last night but this morning re-tracing my steps, riding to work I was able to find them at the steps of the laundromat. Checked the polling place first, then the laundromat. I was glad to find them. While the earbuds are getting old and probably will need to be replaced in a few weeks or months, I didn’t look forward to making a special trip to Walmart to replace them. I lost my other set a few weeks back too, though I did find an nasty cheap wired pair at home if I absolutely needed tunes ๐ŸŽผ while working. I should get a second pair, lest these break or get lost.

Solar noon ๐ŸŒž is at 12:40 pm with sun having an altitude of 33.3° from the due south horizon (-37.5° vs. 6/21). A six foot person will cast a 9.1 foot shadow today compared to 2.2 feet on the first day of summer. The golden hour ๐Ÿ… starts at 5:11 pm with the sun in the west-southwest (245°). ๐Ÿ“ธ The sunset is in the west-southwest (252°) with the sun dropping below the horizon at 5:51 pm after setting for 3 minutes and 4 seconds with dusk around 6:19 pm, which is one minute and 20 seconds earlier than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ‡ The best time to look at the stars is after 6:54 pm. At sunset, look for partly clear skies ๐ŸŒ„ and temperatures around 45 degrees. There will be a calm wind. Tomorrow will have 10 hours and 22 minutes of daytime, a decrease of 2 minutes and 32 seconds over today.

Got a lot of miscellaneous things done yesterday. ๐Ÿ’‰ First and foremost I got my COVID-vaccination and flu shot scheduled for Thursday. I don’t want to get the COVID or flu if I can avoid it. ๐Ÿ—ณ I had time so I got out and voted. That and the whole banning drones near school post by one of the local candidates made me angry ๐Ÿ˜  so I wanted to cast my protest vote right away. ๐Ÿ‘• ๐Ÿ‘– Went to the laundromat and got my clothes cleaned, and while they were drying, I went to Hannaford and stocked up on groceries. ๐Ÿ„ ๐ŸŒพ ๐Ÿต Unfortunately they were out of bananas, ๐ŸŒ but being that I rode my bike to work today, I can stop on my way home.

Tonight will have a slight chance of rain showers after 3am, mixing with snow after 4am. Mostly cloudy ๐ŸŒง, with a low of 33 degrees at 6am. Three degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical night around November 10th. Calm wind. Chance of precipitation is 20%. Unlike West Virginia, Albany hasn’t had freezing weather yet, though the leaves are quickly falling. In 2022, we had cloudy skies in the evening, which became mostly clear by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 54 degrees. The record low of 22 occurred back in 1964.

Already reached that part of the year, ๐Ÿ“„ where I got the PEP, productivity enhancement program sign up form for 2024. Already got it done and signed up for next year. How fast the years come and go, I feel like I just filled it out a few weeks ago. But then again, it’s November. I also was looking and they’ve increased the retirement savings maximum for the year, ๐Ÿ‘ด which means I won’t max out even with my 25% deferred comp contribution. I was hoping for big checks at the end of the year to balance out my budget, but it doesn’t seem likely to happen. At least come December I should be getting in revenue from the blog.

Mild but more clouds for the second half of the weekend ๐ŸŒค๏ธ. Saturday, partly sunny, with a high near 57. Sunday, mostly cloudy, with a high near 56. I want to wait a few more days to decide if this is the weekend for Madison County. ๐Ÿฎ โ›บ Typical average high for the weekend is 54 degrees.

I voted yesterday ๐Ÿ—ณ mainly as I wanted to get it done before I might head out of town this weekend. Plus after reading a local candidates social media post, I was so angry ๐Ÿ˜ก at them I decided I had to go and right away cast a vote โŽ against them. I know voting while angry is probably not a good idea but I got it done.

Looking ahead, there are 2 weeks until Average High is 50 ๐Ÿ‚ when the sun will be setting at 4:35 pm with dusk at 5:04 pm (Standard Time). On that day in 2022, we had partly sunny and temperatures between 42 and 27 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 50 degrees. We hit a record high of 70 back in 1973.

Pasture

Monday here in the land of the Delmaritian ๐Ÿก

You can guess what I’m doing this morning with every burner on my stove top occupied. Occupy breakfast, lunch and dinner as they say on the stove. God willing a week from now I’ll be waking up in the Mountain State in the Mountain Laurel at 4,100 feet.

Good morning! Monday’s back and I’m not in West Virginia. Maybe next week at this time. Partly cloudy and 48 degrees in Delmar, NY. โ˜” There is a northwest breeze at 8 mph. ๐Ÿƒ. The skies will clear tomorrow around 1 pm.

Heading in early today on the bike ๐Ÿšฒ, I might do some walking ๐Ÿšถ at the Plaza before work but it’s really too dark and damp to walk around the high school ๐Ÿšธ plus I had a second cup of coffee with ginger and cinnamon โ˜• this morning so it’s not advisable, lol. Big pan ๐Ÿณ of eggs with onions, mushrooms, lots of spices this morning, also rice and lentils with chipotle spice and a big pot of kidney beans cooked up. I have quite a bit of food ๐Ÿฒ in my fridge at this point but variety is good plus what I don’t eat immediately I can freeze and have as quick meals if I decide to head down to Pennsylvania and ultimately West Virginia this weekend. ๐Ÿ—ป Figure hard boiled eggs and maybe a banana ๐ŸŒ with a five hour energy shot ๐Ÿคฏ for those days I’m on the road so I don’t over consume coffee or spicy eggs and need a million piss breaks.

Today will have scattered showers, mainly between 1pm and 5pm. Mostly cloudy ๐ŸŒฆ, with a high of 58 degrees at 4pm. Four degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical day around October 24th. Maximum dew point of 47 at 10am. North wind 8 to 10 mph. Chance of precipitation is 30%. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch possible. I’m going to ride in today but if necessary I’ll toss my bike on the bus for the evening commute. ๐Ÿš A year ago, we had mostly sunny skies. The high last year was 61 degrees. The record high of 88 was set in 1947. There was a dusting of snow in 2009.โ„

I would like to get some carrots today ๐Ÿฅ•, I could stop either on the bike ride home or ride up to Price Chopper at lunch time ๐Ÿšฒ. I guess it depends on how busy I am. Carrots are good, I not only like them for a snack in the office I found they add a nice little bit of crunch to pancakes ๐Ÿฅž and bread — and aren’t too overpowering in their taste to boot, especially with all the spices and seasoning that I end up using. I find since I have been eating healthier and a lot more carrots, my eye sight at night is far better, I don’t have problems with glare from other car headlights. ๐Ÿ˜‹ It is amazing how a good diet improves all things in life.

Solar noon ๐ŸŒž is at 12:42 pm with sun having an altitude of 38.6° from the due south horizon (-32.3° vs. 6/21). A six foot person will cast a 7.5 foot shadow today compared to 2.2 feet on the first day of summer. The golden hour ๐Ÿ… starts at 5:35 pm with the sun in the west-southwest (252°). ๐Ÿ“ธ The sunset is in the west (259°) with the sun dropping below the horizon at 6:13 pm after setting for 2 minutes and 58 seconds with dusk around 6:40 pm, which is one minute and 37 seconds earlier than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ‡ At dusk you’ll see the Waxing Crescent ๐ŸŒ’ Moon in the west-southwest (240°) at an altitude of 3° from the horizon, 240,972 miles away. ๐Ÿš€ The best time to look at the stars is after 7:15 pm. At sunset, look for rain ๐ŸŒง and temperatures around 56 degrees. The dew point will be 47 degrees. There will be a north breeze at 8 mph. Tomorrow will have 11 hours and 2 minutes of daytime, a decrease of 2 minutes and 47 seconds over today.

Tonight will have isolated showers before 9pm. Mostly cloudy ๐ŸŒง, with a low of 46 degrees at 4am. Five degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical night around October 3rd. North wind around 6 mph. Chance of precipitation is 20%. In 2022, we had cloudy skies. It got down to 37 degrees. The record low of 21 occurred back in 1940.

Yesterday, I went out to Five Rivers for a bit, ๐Ÿธ and it was cold with the wind blowing against my face, especially the ride along Meads Road. Then I went out to the folks house for Sunday dinner. ๐Ÿฅ˜ The beef stew my made was pretty good — she kept emphasizing how much vegetables it had in it, though I probably will add more when I cook up the left overs in the future. First meat I’ve had in like in two weeks — I’m not against meat ๐Ÿฅฉ but it’s kind of expensive, has a lot of saturated fats in it. ๐Ÿ‘• I did laundry at their house, and like usual the drier didn’t do much at drying out my jeans so I ended up hanging them up when I got home. Still it was nice time to spend some time with my parents. Time is so precious these days.

Another rainy weekend on tap but hopefully improving by next week. ๐Ÿ˜ž Saturday, showers likely. Cloudy, with a high near 60. Chance of precipitation is 70%. Sunday, a chance of showers. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 55. Breezy. Chance of precipitation is 50%. I was thinking I need to replace that wiper blade before heading to Best Virginia. Typical average high for the weekend is 60 degrees.

I am going to make a decision about next week on Tuesday ๐Ÿ• and then commit to it by taking off next week on Wednesday. We might be a bit short staffed in the office if the other director leaves early a few days next week, but I think we can make it work. And if the longer range forecast doesn’t change, next week could be an exceptionally nice week in West Virginia. ๐ŸŒฒ๐ŸŒฒ๐ŸŒฒ๐ŸŒฒ

Looking ahead but maybe not forward, there are 4 weeks until Average Night Below Freezing ๐ŸŒŒ when the sun will be setting at 4:36 pm with dusk at 5:05 pm (Standard Time). On that day in 2022, we had partly cloudy and temperatures between 49 and 36 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 50 degrees. We hit a record high of 69 back in 1964. Before my time for sure.

As the Seasons Change

It’s not a half bad morning today ๐ŸŒ…

Moving forward on this Thursday morning, the weekend is moving closer. Doesn’t look like a wash out this weekend locally but kind of gray again. The same can’t be said though about the High Country of West Virginia unfortunately. But that’s nothing I can change no matter how much I refresh the web page for the Tucker County forecast.

Good morning! Partly cloudy and 47 degrees in Delmar, NY. โ›… Calm wind.

Eggs, onions, veggies and probably too much spices ๐Ÿณ for breakfast this morning. Didn’t get up real early today, quarter to five as by the time I got unpacked from my trip to Wally World and lights out ๐Ÿ› it was well after nine. Plus no big meals ๐Ÿด cooking this morning, did most of my cooking yesterday. โ˜• When I get home I’ll have that second cup of coffee with cinnamon and ginger, maybe a few blueberries ๐Ÿซ, shower ๐Ÿšฟ and ride to work. ๐Ÿšฒ Bike rides so much smoother and better since I got that waterproof โš™ chain oil. The dry chain oil worked okay but not for long.

Today will be partly sunny ๐ŸŒž, with a high of 64 degrees at 2pm. One degree above normal, which is similar to a typical day around October 11th. Maximum dew point of 48 at 10am. Calm wind becoming northwest 5 to 7 mph in the afternoon. A year ago, we had mostly sunny skies. The high last year was 71 degrees. The record high of 85 was set in 1954. There was a dusting of snow in 1904.โ„

Should be a great day for a bike ride into the office. ๐Ÿšฒ Third day in the row, not too bad, though yesterday was kind of cloudy. I definitely used both the front and rear lights yesterday for safety, with the shadows and clouds hanging over low over everything. It’s nice being able to plug things in and things quickly charge with the USB charger overnight. I also will enjoy that sunlight soaking through the window as I work on the stack of cap grants on my desk. ๐Ÿ“ƒ Then this afternoon it’s off to the dungeon for a while for some darkness. Not going to be the same in the break-room ๐Ÿฌ since I’ve gotten into the healthy eating thing.

Solar noon ๐ŸŒž is at 12:43 pm with sun having an altitude of 40.1° from the due south horizon (-30.8° vs. 6/21). A six foot person will cast a 7.1 foot shadow today compared to 2.2 feet on the first day of summer. The golden hour ๐Ÿ… starts at 5:42 pm with the sun in the west-southwest (254°). ๐Ÿ“ธ The sunset is in the west (261°) with the sun dropping below the horizon at 6:20 pm after setting for 2 minutes and 57 seconds with dusk around 6:47 pm, which is one minute and 39 seconds earlier than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ‡ The best time to look at the stars is after 7:21 pm. At sunset, look for partly clear skies ๐ŸŒ„ and temperatures around 59 degrees. The dew point will be 47 degrees. There will be a northwest breeze at 7 mph. Tomorrow will have 11 hours and 13 minutes of daytime, a decrease of 2 minutes and 49 seconds over today.

Yesterday I went Walmart and got socks, boxers, and supplies. ๐Ÿ›’ They didn’t have gray socks so I ended up deciding on black socks ๐Ÿงฆ which are fine as I didn’t want easily stained white socks. Nice having boxers that fit well now that I’m so much slimmer and aren’t totally worn out. I’ve actually been tossing a lot of old boxers and socks in the rag pile lately to take to the recycling dumpster, as many have gotten holes or are otherwise worn through. Got Keifer milk (fermented milk) as something new to try, it’s like yogurt but thinner like milk and supposedly is really good for the gut with all kinds of healthy live bacteria unlike most yogurt where the bacteria is killed before consumption.

Tonight will be partly cloudy ๐ŸŒ†, with a low of 41 degrees at 6am. One degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical night around October 15th. Northwest wind 6 to 8 mph. In 2022, we had cloudy skies in the evening, which became rain by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 53 degrees. The record low of 24 occurred back in 1981.

Mice have been bad this year ๐Ÿญ in my apartment since it’s gotten cool, so I picked up some additional sticky and traditional spring mouse traps. Usually once I catch enough of them they thin out for the winter. I think they probably like all the bread crumbs and other crumbs with all the fresh cooking I do these days. ๐Ÿž I don’t mind that much except when they chew holes in the walls, and crap all over my griddle and spread disease, but they’re also annoying when once scurries off. My experience is though overtime with the traps, they’ll disappear. I could also get out the bucket trap which is often quite effective for a while until it no longer is once they figure it out or get enough thinned out.

Not as wet for the Albany area this weekend, as the low center and rain has moved south. ๐ŸŒง Instead of us getting it, it will be West Virginia, where I was planning on going this weekend, lol. Saturday, a chance of rain, mainly after 2pm. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 56. North wind around 6 mph. Chance of precipitation is 30%. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch possible. Sunday, mostly cloudy, with a high near 57. Still hardly a banner weekend. Typical average high for the weekend is 62 degrees.

I might end up heading up to the Albany Pine Bush ๐Ÿฆ‹ to ride trail with Blackie and to the Salvation Army to look at some more clothes, stop by Farmer’s Indian Marker and Aldis for more spices and groceries, and maybe explore the Italian or Chinese markets further down center. ๐Ÿ‘ฉ‍๐Ÿ’ผ At this point especially I should see if I can get some dress shirts at Salvation Army for work, or other “nice” stuff to wear in the winter that fits me well. At least it’s not going to be as wet as originally predicted. ๐ŸŒง

Further out, next Thursday is Average High is 60 ๐Ÿ‚ when the sun will be setting at 6:08 pm with dusk at 6:36 pm. On that day in 2022, we had partly sunny and temperatures between 53 and 33 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 60 degrees. We hit a record high of 79 back in 1963.
