Good morning! Happy Tuesday. Three weeks to Ugly Truck Day ๐Ÿšš. Sunny and 79 degrees in Delmar, NY. ๐ŸŒž Calm wind. The dew point is 73 degrees. The muggy weather ends Sunday around 3 am. ๐Ÿ˜“

Going to be another hot and humid day. ๐Ÿ– Seems like lately we’ve been stuck in a very hot and humid pattern although it will turn cold and rainy for the Independence Day Weekend. I decided though I’m getting used to the heat now, so I will work from home today. ๐Ÿ  This way, I can run at lunchtime to the store and get groceries, and then maybe the hottest part of the day I can work in the library, now that it’s fully re-opened for mask less use. ๐Ÿ˜ท That said, it was good I was in the office yesterday. Some things are best done in on the office and there is always pressure to get more hours in the office as the pandemic winds down. ๐Ÿข

Today will be scattered showers and thunderstorms, mainly after 4pm. Sunny and hot ๐ŸŒž, with a high of 92 degrees at 1pm. Nine degrees above normal. Maximum dew point of 73 at 8am. Heat index values as high as 101. Calm wind becoming southwest around 5 mph. Chance of precipitation is 30%. New rainfall amounts of less than a tenth of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms. A year ago, we had mostly sunny skies. It was humid. The high last year was 83 degrees. The record high of 96 was set in 1944.

I think after mid-morning I might take a shower ๐Ÿšฟ then run to Wally World at lunch time to get some food and supplies. ๐Ÿ” That will give me an opportunity to cool down in the truck, and then get what I need. I like doing that mid-day as there is less crowds, and it’s faster in and out. Then I will go to the library for the balance of the day to work and maybe play on the Internet. They have brought back the desks there and the air conditioning should be nice and cool there. It was fine going downtown yesterday, but

Solar noon ๐ŸŒž is at 1:00 pm with sun having an altitude of 70.6° from the due south horizon (-0.2° vs. 6/21)The golden hour ๐Ÿ… starts at 7:55 pm with the sun in the west-northwest (296°). ๐Ÿ“ธ The sunset is in the west-northwest (303°) with the sun dropping below the horizon at 8:38 pm after setting for 3 minutes and 28 seconds with dusk around 9:12 pm, which is 4 seconds earlier than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ‡ The best time to look at the stars is after 9:58 pm. At sunset, look ut for thunderstorms ๐ŸŒฉ and temperatures around 84 degrees. The dew point will be 73 degrees. The heat index around sunset will be 78. โ›ฑ There will be a calm wind. Today will have 15 hours and 16 minutes of daytime, a decrease of 32 seconds over yesterday.

Tonight will be scattered showers and thunderstorms before 11pm, then isolated showers and thunderstorms after 2am. Partly cloudy , with a low of 72 degrees at 4am. 11 degrees above normal. Maximum dew point of 73 at 6pm. Light southeast wind. Chance of precipitation is 30%. New rainfall amounts of less than a tenth of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms. In 2020, we had mostly clear skies in the evening, which became partly cloudy by the early hours of the morning. It was somewhat humid. It got down to 65 degrees. The record low of 47 occurred back in 1938.

On this day in 2006, in Hamdan v. Rumsfeld the U.S. Supreme Court ๐Ÿ‘ฉ‍โš–๏ธ rules that President George W. Bush’s plan to try Guantanamo Bay detainees in military tribunals violates U.S. and international law. That seems like such a blast form the past at this point. It is after all 15 years ago. That said, I kind of like thinking thoughts about days gone by when we lived in a simpler world.

Been playing with Sheepshaver and my old Mac OS 8 files the past few days, going back to a time in my life that now seems so long ago. ๐Ÿค– While Mac OS 8 had it’s issues, there was a lot to like about it compared to more contemporary computers. That said, the nice thing about Linux and XFCE Window Manager is things rarely if ever change, and most of the changes are improvements rather then big changes in interfaces unlike commercial operating systems like Mac OS X and Windows 11. You can say XFCE is old but it’s fast and stable.

I updated to the latest version of QGIS — 3.20 yesterday, ๐Ÿ—บ which is actually isn’t the official release but the release candidate. But it seems to be pretty stable. I just wish they would fix the bugs with the ARCMap Rest Services, namely the inability to automatically update the bounding box of a FeatureService and the ability to set queries. Neither seems like it would be difficult to implement, as the commands are pretty much straightforward to do manually, but it should be built in. I am tempted to download to the source code, and take a crack at it — can’t be that difficult and I’ve been learning Qt API — but I have never written a patch much less submitted it. I am sure it will get fixed eventually by somebody who knows more then I do patches it.

Independence Weekend still looks pretty unstable and cold. ๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ ๐ŸŽ† Saturday, a chance of showers. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 73. Chance of precipitation is 50%. Maximum dew point of 62 at 10am. Sunday, Independence Day, a chance of showers. Partly sunny, with a high near 78. Chance of precipitation is 50%. Monday, a chance of showers. Mostly sunny, with a high near 81. Chance of precipitation is 40%. Kind of like Memorial Day Weekend. Apparently God doesn’t like holidays this year. Typical average high for the weekend is 83 degrees.

I admit I will probably be staying in town this weekend. ๐Ÿ˜ Kind of sucks but so be it. I really was hoping for nicer weather. I am probably going to do the Nature Bus next weekend, and hammock up at Thacher Park again with a book. Maybe get some stuff out of the library to read, this time I’ll put the book in a plastic bag to make sure it doesn’t get wet. ๐Ÿ“• I probably won’t do Thompson’s Lake this time, just a little hiking and hammock time, and not in the tick filled fields of the OSI parcel.

As previously noted, there are 3 weeks until Ugly Truck Day ๐Ÿšš when the sun will be setting at 8:27 pm with dusk at 9:00 pm. On that day in 2020, we had hot, humid, mostly sunny and temperatures between 87 and 69 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 84 degrees. We hit a record high of 97 back in 1991.

June 21, 2021 Morning

Good morning! Happy Summer ๏ธโ›ฑ๏ธ ! Well, I guess officially yesterday was the first day of summer, but today will certainly be a hot one. Two weeks to Hottest Time of the Year ๐Ÿ˜…. That said, today is expected to be a hot one with a shit ton of humidity but chilly and rainy tomorrow. Partly sunny and 73 degrees in Delmar, NY. There is a south breeze at 9 mph. ๐Ÿƒ. The dew point is 68 degrees. The muggy weather ends tomorrow around 5 am. ๐Ÿ˜“

Out for the morning walk, ๐Ÿšถ‍โ™€๏ธ and it’s a hot one already, especially that last lap around when I’m right in the sun walking past the park and ride. ๐Ÿš Still no idea when service is going to come back, but hopefully before I’m commuting five days a week which will happen eventually. I thought about heading into the office today ๐Ÿข but I think I’ll work from home with the fan and lots of cold drinks. This way during down time at work I can finish putting away my camping gear, โ›บ and getting ready for next trip by cleaning the coolers etc.

Today will have a chance of showers and thunderstorms, mainly after 5pm. Mostly sunny and hot ๐ŸŒž, with a high of 90 degrees at 3pm. Nine degrees above normal. Maximum dew point of 71 at 10am. Welcome to the swamp. South wind 9 to 16 mph. Chance of precipitation is 30%. New rainfall amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms. A year ago, we had mostly sunny skies. It was somewhat humid. The high last year was 92 degrees. The record high of 97 was set in 1938.

I thought seriously about going to work in the office today, with the heat ๐Ÿ˜… but I think with that breeze I should be okay working from home. Tomorrow my phone resets for the mobile broadband, so I plenty of bandwidth. If there is a Zoom I might look like a sweaty pig, but so be it. ๐Ÿท

It’s tough getting back in the routine, ๐Ÿ‘จ‍๐Ÿ’ผ but at least I’m home. It was a nice long weekend, a holiday weekend to boot, but I think I’ll try to do several more long weekends to the Adirondacks and elsewhere, especially if it involves days at the potholers. ๐ŸŠ‍โ™€๏ธ It was so nice cooling off at the potholers yesterday. If I had known hot today is going to be, I might have planned an extra day up north — maybe driven up early Friday morning, so I could have my three nights in one campsite extend until Saturday.

Solar noon ๐ŸŒž is at 12:58 pm with sun having an altitude of 70.8° from the due south horizon. The golden hour ๐Ÿ… starts at 7:55 pm with the sun in the west-northwest (297°). ๐Ÿ“ธ The sunset is in the northwest (304°) with the sun dropping below the horizon at 8:37 pm after setting for 3 minutes and 28 seconds with dusk around 9:11 pm, which is 13 seconds later than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ‡ At dusk you’ll see the Full ๐ŸŒ Moon in the south-southeast (160°) at an altitude of 27° from the horizon, 226,296 miles away. ๐Ÿš€ The best time to look at the stars is after 9:58 pm. At sunset, look out for thunderstorms ๐ŸŒฉ and temperatures around 82 degrees. The dew point will be 69 degrees. There will be a south breeze at 10 mph. Today will have 15 hours and 19 minutes of daytime, no change from yesterday.

If I have some time during the day, ๐Ÿ”‹ I want to trace back the bum connection on the exciter wire and fix it. ๐Ÿ”ง Nothing is obvious, I think its a bad connection on the exciter wire, as testing it last night showed the relay was good. I am thinking one of the butt connectors on the wire is bad, maybe it’s rotted away. That seems to a problem at times, especially if I used copper coated aluminum wire, which I really shouldn’t have done.

Tonight will have showers and thunderstorms likely before 3am, then a chance of showers. Some of the storms could produce small hail, gusty winds, and heavy rain. Mostly cloudy ๐ŸŒง, with a low of 62 degrees at 6am. Three degrees above normal. Maximum dew point of 69 at 6pm. South wind 7 to 10 mph becoming west after midnight. Chance of precipitation is 60%. New rainfall amounts between a quarter and half of an inch possible. In 2020, we had mostly clear skies in the evening, which became partly cloudy by the early hours of the morning. It was humid. It got down to 70 degrees. The record low of 37 occurred back in 1940.

This weekend looks hot and unstable. ๐ŸŒฉ Saturday, a chance of showers. Partly sunny, with a high near 84. Chance of precipitation is 50%. Maximum dew point of 66 at 11am. Sunday, showers likely and possibly a thunderstorm. Mostly cloudy, very humid with a high near 80. Chance of precipitation is 70%. Maximum dew point of 69 at 10am. Typical average high for the weekend is 82 degrees.

As I just got back from the Adirondacks, ๐ŸŒ„ I am thinking this weekend I will stay in town. The weather looks dicey and hot. I might do the Nature Bus up to Thacher Park this weekend with a book I am reading, and just dash under a pavilion should it start to rain. ๐Ÿ“šI might walk up to Thompson’s Lake and go for a swim, then read down by the escarpment. The free bus is easy and convenient — if I get on/off at Five Rivers that is an opportunity for some early morning/late afternoon nature study too. ๐Ÿธ

The following week, which is Independence Weekend ๐ŸŽ† I am debating about my plans. One thought that comes to mind is to work up in Speculator on Friday and then head from Speculator to Piseco-Powley Road for the long weekend. I like it there, although I worry campsites will fill up quickly for the holiday weekend. ๐Ÿ• Another option I’m considering is tent camping at a state forest in Schoharie County and spending a good portion of the weekend at Mine Kill Pool. I haven’t done a lot of tent camping in a long while. I figure the handful of campsites at Burnt-Rossman would likely fill up early during that holiday weekend. Plus I haven’t used the tent in a long time. As I will likely use the big propane tank, I don’t want to haul it back too far in the woods, but maybe that ridge I camped at back in 2018.

As previously noted, there are 2 weeks until Hottest Time of the Year ๐Ÿ˜… when the sun will be setting at 8:36 pm with dusk at 9:10 pm. On that day in 2020, we had hot, mostly sunny and temperatures between 91 and 62 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 84 degrees. We hit a record high of 99 back in 1919.

Roaring Brook

June 17, 2021 Morning

Good morning! Happy Thursday. Next Thursday is the latest sunset ๐ŸŒ‡ of the year and the Strawberry Moon ๐Ÿ“ ๐ŸŒ• . Lots of things to keep the lights up late that day. Sunny and 57 degrees in Delmar, NY. ๐ŸŒž There is a west-southwest breeze at 5 mph. ๐Ÿƒ. The dew point is 44 degrees. Kind of a chilly start for a late June morning although the heat right now is lurking out on the west coast.

My bags are packed ๐Ÿ’ผ and I’m ready to head to the Adirondacks after work. I decided not to drive work because it’s just easier to leave from home and leaving a bit after 6 pm means I shouldn’t hit much traffic. The coolers will last longer with everything in the fridge or freezer today. ๐Ÿฅš I forgot to get eggs yesterday so I’ll have to stop at Stewart’s on the way up north. Not sure if the forecast is as nice as previously announced but I am glad to be gone this long weekend where I can enjoy the quiet. ๐Ÿคซ No cell service where I’m going, should be nice and quiet.

Bus reroute this morning ๐ŸšŒ due to a house fire ๐Ÿ”ฅ on Delaware Avenue. Been a while since a building burnt there but house fires ๐Ÿ”ฅ in the city seem to follow a trend – neighborhoods destabilize and then one building after another burns. It just seems like Albany is sliding down hill. The whole city after decades of improvement after pollution controls were implemented is just sliding backwards. It may be the pandemic but also foreign investment driving up the rents and driving out the tenants and businesses. All that money ๐Ÿ’ต from China purchases is being reinvested in our community by China slumlords looking for a place to park their cash.

Today will be sunny ๐ŸŒž, with a high of 75 degrees at 3pm. Five degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical day around May 31st. Northwest wind 5 to 10 mph. A year ago, we had mostly sunny skies in the morning with a few breaks of sun the afternoon. The high last year was 87 degrees. The record high of 94 was set in 1994.

Solar noon ๐ŸŒž is at 12:57 pm with sun having an altitude of 70.8° from the due south horizon (-0.1° vs. 6/21). A six foot person will cast a 2.1 foot shadow today compared to 2.2 feet on the first day of summer. The golden hour ๐Ÿ… starts at 7:53 pm with the sun in the west-northwest (297°). ๐Ÿ“ธ The sunset is in the west-northwest (304°) with the sun dropping below the horizon at 8:36 pm after setting for 3 minutes and 28 seconds with dusk around 9:10 pm, which is 21 seconds later than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ‡ At dusk you’ll see the First Quarter ๐ŸŒ“ Moon in the southwest (225°) at an altitude of 44° from the horizon, 231,723 miles away. ๐Ÿš€ The best time to look at the stars is after 9:57 pm. At sunset, look for mostly clear skies ๐ŸŒ„ and temperatures around 68 degrees. The dew point will be 46 degrees. There will be a west breeze at 6 mph. Today will have 15 hours and 18 minutes of daytime, an increase of 16 seconds over yesterday.

I can wait until the work day is over to head up north. I am thinking I also need maple syrup besides eggs for my pancakes. ๐Ÿฅž I might end up going to Price Chopper in Gloversville. I wish I had just skip the run to the store yesterday. That was dumb on my part. Well, I guess it is what is. I just got flustered over the stupid can return and then I couldn’t find what I needed in the store. I feel stupid but it ain’t the end of world. The days are long now, I don’t care if I get up to camp really late although I’d kind of like to get that House Pond Campsite if possible.

Tonight will be mostly clear ๐ŸŒƒ, with a low of 49 degrees at 5am. Nine degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical night around May 19th. West wind around 6 mph becoming calm in the evening. In 2020, we had partly cloudy skies in the evening, which became mostly clear by the early hours of the morning. It became somewhat humid as the night progressed. It got down to 62 degrees. The record low of 39 occurred back in 1958.

On this day in 1972, Five White House operatives are arrested for burgling the offices of the Democratic National Committee, ๐Ÿ‘ฎ๐Ÿผ‍โ™‚๏ธ ๐Ÿ‘ค in an attempt by some members of the Republican party to illegally wiretap the opposition. This would become the basis for the Watergate scandal.

The Juneteenth Weekend looks nice. ๐Ÿ– Friday, mostly sunny, with a high near 82. South wind 5 to 9 mph. Saturday, scattered showers, with thunderstorms also possible after 11am. Partly sunny, with a high near 82. South wind around 9 mph. Chance of precipitation is 50%. New rainfall amounts of less than a tenth of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms. Maximum dew point of 65 at 10am. Sunday, sunny, with a high near 81. Maximum dew point of 61 at 8pm. Typical average high for the weekend is 80 degrees.

As previously noted, next Thursday is Latest Sunset of the year ๐ŸŒ† when the sun will be setting at 8:37 pm with dusk at 9:12 pm. On that day in 2020, we had humid weather and partly sunny skies, rain showers in the afternoon and temperatures between 85 and 65 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 82 degrees. We hit a record high of 96 back in 1943.

Turnpike

June 14, 2021 Morning

Good morning! Monday’s come back around again. ๐Ÿ‘จ‍๐Ÿ’ป Back to work again, although today is a remote work day from home. I thought about going in the office, with the cold and rain today,  Three weeks to Hottest Time of the Year ๐Ÿ˜…. Pouring rain with a few claps of thunder, around 61 degrees in Delmar, NY. ๐ŸŒฉ There is a east-southeast breeze at 7 mph. ๐Ÿƒ. A pretty good thunderstorm this morning. The dew point is 60 degrees.

I wanted to go out for my walk this morning, ๐Ÿšถ‍โ™€๏ธ but when I first got up it was pouring rain. And then it started to rain even harder. ๐ŸŒง It seems like most of today will be a pretty wet day. At least it waited until the work week to get nasty out, although yesterday afternoon was surprisingly hot. ๐Ÿ˜… I was going to go with Dad to the Gas Up ๐Ÿšœ but then Dad decided he wasn’t feeling good with the heat, so I ended up skipping that and going out to my parents house for Sunday dinner then a walk up on Wolf Hill ๐Ÿบ on Sunday evening until about dusk. It was kind of a nice evening, I had chicken at my parents house ๐Ÿ— and then hiked. Not a lot of wildlife up there, just a few birds in the trees. ๐Ÿฆ

Today will have showers and possibly a thunderstorm before 11am, then a chance of showers and thunderstorms between 11am and 4pm, then showers likely and possibly a thunderstorm after 4pm. Some of the storms could produce small hail and gusty winds. ๐ŸŒฆ High of 70 degrees at 2pm. Nine degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical day around May 12th. Maximum dew point of 62 at 11am. ๐Ÿ–๏ธ South wind 7 to 14 mph. Chance of precipitation is 80%. New rainfall amounts between a quarter and half of an inch possible. A year ago, we had mostly sunny skies. The high last year was 71 degrees. The record high of 96 was set in 1892.

I really need to get to the store today, ๐Ÿช as I am pretty much out of food. ๐Ÿ›’ I have made due most of the past work week but you can only stretch the things you have in the pantry so far until the missing items become a problem. ๐Ÿฅซ Plus I don’t like breaking out the canned stuff I have for camping, because that tends to be more expensive and means a lot more trash. I might go to Wally World, as I like their selection of bulk foods and I also really need to get some more undershirts ๐Ÿ‘• as the ones I have a pretty darn worn out.

Solar noon ๐ŸŒž is at 12:57 pm with sun having an altitude of 70.7° from the due south horizon (-0.2° vs. 6/21). A six foot person will cast a 2.1 foot shadow today compared to 2.2 feet on the first day of summer. The golden hour ๐Ÿ… starts at 7:52 pm with the sun in the west-northwest (296°). ๐Ÿ“ธ The sunset is in the west-northwest (304°) with the sun dropping below the horizon at 8:35 pm after setting for 3 minutes and 27 seconds with dusk around 9:09 pm, which is 26 seconds later than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ‡ At dusk you’ll see the First Quarter ๐ŸŒ“ Moon in the west (270°) at an altitude of 31° from the horizon, 240,105 miles away. ๐Ÿš€ The best time to look at the stars is after 9:55 pm. At sunset, look for rain ๐ŸŒง and thunderstorms ๐ŸŒฉ and temperatures around 67 degrees. The dew point will be 62 degrees. There will be a south breeze at 8 mph. Today will have 15 hours and 17 minutes of daytime, an increase of 27 seconds over yesterday.

Tonight will have showers likely and possibly a thunderstorm before 10pm, then a chance of showers and thunderstorms between 10pm and 1am, then a chance of showers after 1am. Some of the storms could produce small hail and gusty winds. Patchy fog after 11pm. Otherwise, mostly cloudy ๐ŸŒง, with a low of 58 degrees at 4am. One degree above normal, which is similar to a typical night around June 16th. Maximum dew point of 62 at 6pm. South wind 5 to 8 mph becoming calm in the evening. Chance of precipitation is 60%. New rainfall amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms. In 2020, we had mostly clear skies. It got down to 49 degrees. The record low of 42 occurred back in 1985.

The Juneteenth Weekend Looks Pretty nice. ๐Ÿ˜Ž Friday, mostly sunny, with a high near 83. Saturday, a chance of showers. Mostly sunny, with a high near 82. Chance of precipitation is 50%. Maximum dew point of 62 at 11am. Sunday, mostly sunny, with a high near 78. Maximum dew point of 58 at 7am. Typical average high for the weekend is 80 degrees.

I am planning on heading up to Piseco-Powley Road on Thursday evening ๐Ÿ• after work. I might sneak out of the office a bit early, as I am working downtown but I am undecided about that. It would be easier if I was in the office another day of the week and working from home that day. but so be it.

As previously noted, next Monday is Summer ๏ธโ›ฑ๏ธ when the sun will be setting at 8:36 pm with dusk at 9:11 pm. On that day in 2020, we had hot, mostly sunny and temperatures between 92 and 69 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 81 degrees. We hit a record high of 97 back in 1938.

 Lady Slippers

June 6, 2021 Morning

Good morning! Happy Sunday. Next Sunday is Fathers Day ๐Ÿ‘จ . Also the Gas Up ๐Ÿšœ is next weekend. I should see if my dad wants to go, otherwise I might tent or hammock camp overnight in Schoharie County and go the next morning. Partly cloudy and 67 degrees at the Mason Lake. โ›… There is a west breeze at 8 mph. ๐Ÿƒ. The dew point is 58 degrees.

It’s a pretty nice morning for sure. I had breakfast of eggs and sausage ๐Ÿณ and sat in the screen tent ๐ŸŽช then back out in the hammock. Been working on a blog post about mental illness stigma and the media and just hanging out. I’m going to need to take down camp โ›บ and head into town later to get ice as the heat has been tough on the coolers and while I can probably go another day, I think that will be really pushing it. I didn’t have salt for salt water ice and while I could probably wait until Monday I don’t want to deal with spoiled milk or rancid meat. ๐Ÿคฎ

Yesterday was a pretty lazy day in the hammock. ๐Ÿ˜ด That was the plan. I did a lot of day drinking in the heat ๐Ÿป and got quite buzzed but who cares I haven’t started my truck since Friday as I used the solar go keep things charged. ๐Ÿ”‹ Did some fishing ๐ŸŽฃ and went for a swim in Mason Lake, it was cold and mucky as to be expected. ๐Ÿฆ† Walked down to the other end of the lake and saw a few Mallard ducks fly off. Been hearing a lot from the loons but I haven’t seen them but honestly I spent more time in the hammock then down by the lake yesterday.

Today will be mostly sunny ๐ŸŒž, with a high of 83 degrees at 3pm. Six degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical day around June 28th. Maximum dew point of 59 at 10am. West wind 8 to 11 mph. A year ago, we had partly cloudy skies in the morning with some clearing in the afternoon. It was somewhat humid. The high last year was 86 degrees. The record high of 94 was set in 1925.

I think today I will pack up โ›บ and head into Spectulator. While it is getting warm fast, I am thinking about hiking back to the Kunjamuk Cave and Elm Lake. I could drive there but I would rather park the truck and walk ๐Ÿšถ๐Ÿป so I can look at birds ๐Ÿฆ and wildlife ๐ŸฆŒ. I need to get a block of ice โ„ a Charlie John’s and then I want to get some ice cream ๐Ÿฆand go for a swim in Lake Pleasant at the town beach ๐Ÿ– which isn’t officially open yet but I am sure there will be a ton of people there. ๐ŸŠ๐Ÿปโ€โ™‚๏ธ

Solar noon ๐ŸŒž is at 12:57 pm with sun having an altitude of 69.1ยฐ from the due south horizon (-0.7ยฐ vs. 6/21). A six foot person will cast a 2.3 foot shadow today compared to 2.2 feet on the first day of summer. The golden hour ๐Ÿ… starts at 7:53 pm with the sun in the west-northwest (296ยฐ). ๐Ÿ“ธ The sunset is in the west-northwest (303ยฐ) with the sun dropping below the horizon at 8:37 pm after setting for 3 minutes and 30 seconds with dusk around 9:11 pm, which is 41 seconds later than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ‡ The best time to look at the stars is after 9:58 pm. At sunset, look for mostly clear skies ๐ŸŒ„ and temperatures around 76 degrees. The dew point will be 60 degrees. There will be a west-southwest breeze at 8 mph. Today will have 15 hours and 19 minutes of daytime, an increase of one minute over yesterday.

Tonight will be mostly clear ๐ŸŒƒ, with a low of 61 degrees at 4am. Six degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical night around June 27th. Maximum dew point of 60 at 8pm. West wind 5 to 8 mph. In 2020, we had mostly clear skies in the evening, which became cloudy by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 54 degrees. The record low of 37 occurred back in 1958.

As previously noted, next Sunday is Fathers Day ๐Ÿ‘จ when the sun will be setting at 8:40 pm with dusk at 9:15 pm. On that day in 2020, we had cold, partly sunny and temperatures between 66 and 46 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 79 degrees. We hit a record high of 94 back in 1892.

Fountain

May 31, 2021 Morning

Good morning! Happy Memorial Day ๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ ! Thanks to all that have served, whether it was for a noble cause, a paycheck, or because our government leaders where foolish war mongers. Five weeks to Hottest Time of the Year ๐Ÿ˜…. That said, after a cold and rainy past few days, the heat machine cranks up by this mid-week with hot and muggy weather. At least I have the fan out. But for now, cloudy, damp and 45 degrees in Delmar, NY. โ˜” There is a north-northwest breeze at 6 mph. ๐Ÿƒ.

Yesterday, I spent most of the afternoon continuing to dig through the remaining increasingly moldy remaining files. ๐Ÿ“ We’ve pretty much reached the end of wet stuff, and things have mostly dried out. Some old newspaper articles literally fell apart and became mush — wouldn’t have been bad to toss in a compost pile with some manure to turn into dirt. But most of the papers themselves were salvaged ๐Ÿ“„ although we found more wet stuff then expected at the end and kind of ran low on screens to dry things out. My hat’s definitely off to the firefighters, demolition workers and city officials ๐Ÿ‘จโ€๐Ÿš’ ๐Ÿ‘จโ€๐Ÿ’ผ ๐Ÿ‘ท that made it possible to recover so much. There are still some good people in the government. And the team of volunteers including Lynne Jackson and Dan Van Riper who have been working for over a week now to save things. I’m going back over this afternoon for another session of drying and salvaging materials, although after today I am going to be pretty busy and long for work, ๐Ÿข and I’m hoping to get out of town before work on Friday. ๐Ÿ•

Memorial Day will have showers likely, mainly before 1pm. Patchy fog before 7am. Otherwise, mostly cloudy with more sun late ๐ŸŒฆ, with a high of 65 degrees at 4pm. 10 degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical day around April 28th. Maximum dew point of 49 at 12pm. Northwest wind 6 to 9 mph. Chance of precipitation is 60%. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch possible. A year ago, we had cloudy skies in the morning with more sun in the afternoon. The high last year was 65 degrees. The record high of 92 was set in 2013.

In a little bit, certainly by around 8 AM or so I am going to walk out to Five Rivers. ๐Ÿฆ Probably the trails are just one big mosh pit after the rain, but there should be a lot of robins out. With so much rain lately, I haven’t had a chance to do much walking or time outdoors. Last weekend I hiked Bennett Hill and I’ve done my morning walks, but not many evening walks. ๐Ÿ‘ฃ It’s been tough with the weather for sure. โ›ˆ Maybe there will be a lot of wildlife out after all the rain we’ve had later. Then I’m going to come home, catch a bus downtown again, more file drying ๐Ÿ“‚ and then out to folks house for Memorial Day/Sunday dinner. ๐Ÿ” Might be nice enough to sit outside.

Solar noon ๐ŸŒž is at 12:54 pm with sun having an altitude of 69.3ยฐ from the due south horizon (-1.5ยฐ vs. 6/21). A six foot person will cast a 2.3 foot shadow today compared to 2.2 feet on the first day of summer. The golden hour ๐Ÿ… starts at 7:44 pm with the sun in the west-northwest (295ยฐ). ๐Ÿ“ธ The sunset is in the west-northwest (302ยฐ) with the sun dropping below the horizon at 8:27 pm after setting for 3 minutes and 23 seconds with dusk around 8:59 pm, which is 48 seconds later than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ‡ The best time to look at the stars is after 9:44 pm. At sunset, look for partly clear skies ๐ŸŒ„ and temperatures around 59 degrees. The dew point will be 48 degrees. What a big change from what we’ve had lately. There will be a northwest breeze at 5 mph. Today will have 15 hours and 5 minutes of daytime, an increase of one minute and 18 seconds over yesterday. Days are getting long now, for a few more weeks.

Tonight will be mostly cloudy ๐ŸŒฅ, with a low of 46 degrees at 4am. Seven degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical night around May 10th. Northwest wind around 5 mph becoming light and variable in the evening. In 2020, we had mostly clear skies in the evening, which became cloudy by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 41 degrees. The record low of 35 occurred back in 1945.

Tomorrow at lunch time ๐Ÿฅช I need to go to the store and get food. ๐Ÿ›’ I am working from home on Tuesday but Wednesday and Thursday I will be at the office downtown ๐Ÿข and I expect late nights in the office so I’m not going to have a lot of free time. Friday morning before work I plan to head north and work from Spectulator.

Going to be a nice, hot and humid summer weekend. ๐ŸŠ Saturday, a chance of showers. Mostly sunny, with a high near 85. Chance of precipitation is 40%. Maximum dew point of 64 at 9am. Sunday, mostly sunny, with a high near 88. Maybe 90? Maximum dew point of 65 at 7pm. I would say, that’s very much summer weather. Hot and humid. ๐Ÿ˜“ Typical average high for the weekend is 77 degrees.

My therapy session ๐Ÿ‘จโ€โš•๏ธ has been postponed one week from Friday, so this week I can get at least in theory in get up to the Adirondacks and work from Lake Pleasant on Friday and then camp up in the Speculator-area. I am a bit tired of being up there, but having the internet at the library and the nice lake to sit down by and work, sure makes it’s worthwhile. ๐Ÿ• I want to do Piseco-Powley Road and potholers, but i think I will wait a few weeks until the legislative session is over — supposedly on June 10th, and then take a long weekend when I can be totally off-the-grid and not be doing work emails or anything else work related. ๐ŸŠโ€โ™€๏ธ Where work can be the furthest from the mind. Plus in two or three weeks the water temperature should be much warmer. I plan to take off a fair amount of time this summer, and maybe I can do some remote work too, although I kind of hate the mixing of work and pleasure, even if it means ore gets done.

As previously noted, there are 3 weeks until Summer ๏ธโ›ฑ๏ธ when the sun will be setting at 8:36 pm with dusk at 9:11 pm. On that day in 2020, we had hot, mostly sunny and temperatures between 92 and 69 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 81 degrees. We hit a record high of 97 back in 1938.

Tired Dog

May 26, 2021 Morning

Good morning! Happy Hump Day! ๐Ÿช In the era of front wheel drive cars does anybody celebrate Hump Day anymore? ๐Ÿš˜ Getting ready to catch the bus ๐Ÿš downtown for a day working in the old office ๐Ÿข. Partly sunny and 68 degrees in Delmar, NY. ๐ŸŒค๏ธ There is a south breeze at 8 mph. ๐Ÿƒ. The dew point is 63 degrees. A day of sweltering summer heat ended by violent โ›ˆ and than a good stretch cool, low humidity weather although the Friday going into the Memorial Day Weekend looks like a good soaker. โ˜”

Today will have a chance of showers and thunderstorms after 3pm. Some of the storms could produce gusty winds and heavy rain. Mostly sunny ๐ŸŒž, with a high of 88 degrees at 2pm. 14 degrees above normal. Maximum dew point of 65 at 10am. South wind 8 to 15 mph, with gusts as high as 26 mph. Going to be a hot late May. Summer is coming although even though with the new climate normals that’s pretty toasty, with the mugginess. Chance of precipitation is 30%. New rainfall amounts of less than a tenth of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms. A year ago, we had mostly sunny skies. It was somewhat humid. The high last year was 90 degrees. The record high of 94 was set in 2010. There was a dusting of snow in 1953.โ„

While the air conditioning is on the bus, โ„ it feels hot and muggy with the suit and tie with the mask.๐Ÿ˜ท I can’t believe how uncomfortable wearing the muzzle truly is this morning. I wish they would lower the air conditioning even more on the bus but I’m not sure if that’s something the drivers control. I haven’t minded masks so much but now that I have to wear them going back and forth to work, a lot of days a work, it really isn’t that much fun. ๐Ÿ‘จ‍๐Ÿ’ผ Maybe it’s not so bad when you are not in a shirt and tie for work.

I pulled the window shades down and got the fan set up so when I get home, although I might not get home until late, especially if I go over to Dan Van Riper’s place to continuing sorting and drying out John Wolcott’s papers. ๐Ÿ“œ I know that Assemblyman Jack McEneny and some others is going to be continuing working over there today, but I can’t do this now because I have to work. But maybe this afternoon after work, although speaking to Dan one of issues is that none of the buildings they’re working in lacks light fixtures.

I am still a bit troubled about what I saw salvaging historical materials from Mr. Wolcott’s house prior to demolition. ๐Ÿšช It’s just a reminder how temporary and disposable all things are around us all. While I wondered when that fire ripped through the street in 2018, if things would be lost, it took another 3 years before a devastating fire destroyed much of what was in the house. Last night, I went out and bought a few SanDisk flash drives, so I could start backing up my files off site from my apartment in case of fire, tornado, building collapse, or other permanent evacuation. ๐Ÿ’พ You can say it won’t happen to you, but then when you smell that awful smell of a burnt house and a disjointed burnt out building, it seems to really hit. ๐Ÿ‘ฉ‍๐Ÿš’ I know a lot of people store their files in the cloud, but I don’t have internet as an option, so I’ve been storing things on an external hard drive, which is good except if the building you are storing things is destroyed. I haven’t heard if Lynne has been able to recover the files.

Solar noon ๐ŸŒž is at 12:53 pm with sun having an altitude of 68.6° from the due south horizon (-2.3° vs. 6/21). A six foot person will cast a 2.4 foot shadow today compared to 2.2 feet on the first day of summer. The golden hour ๐Ÿ… starts at 7:41 pm with the sun in the west-northwest (294°). ๐Ÿ“ธ The sunset is in the west-northwest (301°) with the sun dropping below the horizon at 8:22 pm after setting for 3 minutes and 21 seconds with dusk around 8:55 pm, which is 54 seconds later than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ‡ The best time to look at the stars is after 9:39 pm. At sunset, look for rain ๐ŸŒง and thunderstorms ๐ŸŒฉ and temperatures around 79 degrees. The dew point will be 61 degrees. There will be a west breeze at 9 mph. Today will have 14 hours and 58 minutes of daytime, an increase of one minute and 35 seconds over yesterday.

Tonight will have showers and thunderstorms likely before midnight, then scattered showers. Some of the storms could produce gusty winds and heavy rain. Mostly cloudy ๐ŸŒง, with a low of 58 degrees at 4am. Six degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical night around June 16th. Maximum dew point of 62 at 6pm. West wind 5 to 9 mph becoming light. Chance of precipitation is 70%. New precipitation amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms. In 2020, we had mostly clear skies. It was humid. It got down to 68 degrees. The record low of 30 occurred back in 1969.

Cool this weekend with temperatures running 10 degrees below normal but otherwise sunny. ๐Ÿ˜ƒ Saturday, mostly sunny, with a high near 64. Maximum dew point of 36 at 7am. Sunday, mostly sunny, with a high near 67. Maximum dew point of 42 at 8pm. Typical average high for the weekend is 75 degrees.

I am not sure what my weekend will look like. ๐Ÿ’ญ I have a feeling I might have to work this weekend, so I am less inclined to go to Adirondacks because working and camping ๐Ÿ• is less fun then being totally off grid and doing lots of drinking and hanging out. Plus I really want a hot weekend I can spend down at the Potholers doing said things without the crowds. And as we get further into the June, the black flies taper off.

Looking ahead, there are 7 weeks until National Nude Day ๐Ÿ‘ฑ when the sun will be setting at 8:31 pm with dusk at 9:05 pm. On that day in 2020, we had mostly sunny, thunderstorm and temperatures between 84 and 67 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 84 degrees. We hit a record high of 99 back in 1995.

I need this flag for camping
